BLOOOOOODBORRRRRRNE
ARE YOU READY, wastes of skin? Just two days to go!
A look at what will probably be the weirdest weapon in Bloodborne.
TAY alumnist Harli tells us everything we need to know about Bloodborne before it launches. Thanks Harli!
AAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I just checked my MightyApe order, and it’s got an Australia Post tracking number and the words “We expect to process this shipment today“!
No details recorded against it yet, but still *lets out Ned-Flanders-purple-drapes-scream*
Don’t know if mine’s shipped yet or not, I can’t track it because for some stupid reason I decided to pay with my PayPal account and that has a different email address attached to it than my Mightyape account. It asked me to make an account after I’d finished the order, but I tried and it wouldn’t let me.
Don’t think we’ll get it by Wednesday, from memory the quickest I’ve got something from them is like 4 business days. As long as I get mine by friday I’ll be happy.
So you’re saying I should wait until Friday before telling my wife that we should take a break…
Crap.
Yeah, pretty crazy if true.
Though if it’s true, it’ll almost certainly be patched down, though.
This. Ugh. This is what worries me.
I loved my stable Demon’s Souls run on the ANZ release.
Got Dark Souls on release, played about 60% of the way through, got stuck, took a break.
Came back a few months later, game patched, removed a bunch of the enemies in the way, added stunlock to the remaining ones, and I pretty much just waltzed through the rest of the game and felt nothing about finishing it. It felt cheap. Hollow.
Dark Souls 2 had some goalpost shifting in the early days as well.
So… Based on this, I don’t know whether to hold off and play once it’s at a stable version, or try for a complete run before any major patches drop…
Dark Souls 2 had a ridiculous amount of goalpost shifting. Just ask @freezespreston about the Shrine of Amana.
I’m just gonna play it, and if stuff changes, it changes. Patches might improve the experience, or take away from it, or (more likely, as per other games) some combination of both.
Edit: there’s also a day-one patch that’s already been announced. Apparently, its purpose is to optimise online play, but there might be other stuff in there too.
Yeah, I got to the shrine the day after that patch.
At least Easter might give a decent timeframe to do a full run. Hopefully.
Yeah, I didn’t get there until after the patch either. But I watched some pre-patch Let’s Play vids and they looked insane.
They nerfed the Royal Giant too. Apparently his attack lost the big AoE it had when it hit the ground and is now just the club itself that hits.
Which, good. He was nigh impossible as melee. I ended up having to respect to magic just to beat the damn thing. Felt like I cheated somehow.
I beat him pre-patch (I’m pretty sure) as melee. From memory I stood on the upper platform, and since he’d always hit at it, roll off it whenever he went to attack, kick him in the dick (calf, actually, but shh), run back up, rinse and repeat. Was super cheesey, so I can’t say I’ll miss him.
Big thing that moo’d a lot at the end of one of the tree sequences?
I think I remember declaring it somewhat impossible in the first few runs but getting in behind it for long enough to land a bunch of two handed hits… Couldn’t say about the AoE in my hazy recollection now.
Or you could just play offline, so it won’t update. But then there won’t be any invasion shenanigans (assuming they’re back). Personally I think the idea of invasions is kinda cool, but at the same time extremely annoying, whenever I play a Souls game and someone invades me I hate it, it’s like “hey, piss off I just want to play the game”. Seriously considering playing Bloodborne offline for this reason.
I don’t mind the online thing, since I can be a bigger jerk than the invaders if necessary.
I am super sad that that weapon doesn’t allow you to wheely skeleton roll.
Oh well, I can dream that the best enemy in Dark Souls will make its triumphant return in Bloodborne. (cc. @strange)
I have so much work to pack into the next couple of days so I’m free all day for Bloodborne on release day! Gotta finish two quilts in two days. I can do that right? Right?! 😛
Oh, and hey @the_foreigner, this is the current TAY. This is where all the Bloodborne action will be this week. 😀
Assuming you quilt anything like my mother, you have time to start six more projects. 😛
Thanks for pulling me in here, I can’t wait! Good luck with the quilts 🙂
I just saw a reddit post about the Chalice Dungeon and it sounded amazing. New armor sets, new bosses, maybe even new weapons, it’ll truly be a great addition to the series. Now the question is, do we know if they need PS Plus? I hope that creating your own Chalice Dungeons doesn’t need PS Plus, I’ve read somewhere before that only uploading your own dungeon requires the service.
Interesting question! I haven’t seen it mentioned anywhere.
But this site seems to have some answers:
http://bloodborne.wiki.fextralife.com/Chalice+Dungeon
Right hand column says “YES” PS+ is required.
BUT:
So if the dungeons can be accessed offline, I can’t see how PS+ would be a requirement. Is that logic or just silly?
The way I understand is that there are preset Chalice Dungeons, sort of like the bonus dungeons from Dark Souls II(which were all tougher than the main game areas). To make your own Chalice Dungeon, you just need an internet connection because their Chalice Dungeon level generator is online. This is without PS+ mind you. Now if you want to upload your own Chalice Dungeon data for others to download, then you need PS+. Check here(http://bloodborne.wiki.fextralife.com/Online) under “Bloodborne & Playstation Plus”. I guess this says it nicely: “Sony clarifies that PlayStation Plus is required for co-op and player-versus-player, but not required for downloading updates and getting the necessary data to generate a Chalice Dungeon.”
And one more thing, I read that there are four preset dungeons, each harder than the last. The person that posted that reddit info was only just talking about the first Chalice Dungeon, so there are three more left unexplored.
To be honest, when I first learned about the Chalice Dungeons I wasn’t that into them, but when I read the reddit post about them, I am suddenly really, really, interested with them. They sound amazing.
Holy smokes, I’ve just been texted by my local retailer(remember I’m not from AU) that my Bloodborne pre-order is ready for pickup! What do I do? Reviews aren’t out til tomorrow! All my money!
JEALOUS
I don’t even have a PS4 to play it yet, debating with my mind if I should get the basic bundle or the camera bundle(I’ll have to ask an officemate to lend me some cash to make this a reality). Then again. I’m so torn. But this is Bloodborne, this shouldn’t be this hard. Any which way, if I get the console today, I’ll call in sick tomorrow 😀

What’s The Dig?
😛I came second in yesterdays Warmachine/Hordes tournament. I won a cheese grater.
During the tournament my older brother called me to tell me that he has booked the family dog, who’s about 17 years old, to be put down today.
Sorry to hear about your pooch man. I’ve never had a pet die on me/put down (other than a budgie), so I can’t imagine what it feels like.
Hope you’re ok mate. Sorry to hear about your old friend. Well done on the placement
G Rank unlocked!
The real Monster Hunter starts here…
So many G Rank ranks now!
I think I did that last urgent about 10 times just to be nice and help others get there too.
You’ll have to come online with us again soon.
Yes. The pointy end of HR gets boring if I’d nagged you guys for help too much there, but should be more interesting to jump in on the G rank list now.
Seregios armour is dope!
What kind of skills does it get?
I’m only HR7…
Two urgents to change from 7 to G – one to unlock the level, then one to open G. Can be … interesting trying to get a party together for those though since everyone needs the urgents and doesn’t want to stay around much after that.
Telltale has announced that Chapter Three of Game of Thrones will be out this month.
http://www.pcgamer.com/game-of-thrones-episode-3-out-this-month/
That basically means sometime in the next week. So that’s a bit of exciting news, and so soon after the Borderlands chapter dropped! \o/
And Minecraft: Story Mode and Walking Dead Season 3 on the way, so much Telltale goodness. Hopefully they drop straight after the end of GoT and TFtB.
I cannot wait for TWD season 3. I’m probably anticipating it as strongly as I am Bloodborne. As much as I’m enjoying all Telltale’s work at the moment, I just replayed Season 2 of the TWD, and just bought into that world so strongly all over again.
Spoilers for ending:
And I can’t decide which ending is better: my original Clem-by-herself ending or the Clem-and-Kenny-stick-together ending I got this time around. They were both so excellent, and totally fitting.I’m less hype for Minecraft Story Mode, but I’ll still buy it, because these guys are on fire these last few years.
Can’t wait for Orphan Black Season 3 that shit’s gonna be intense
I picked up Broderlands when it was on sale last week when chapter 2 dropped, I hope Game of Thrones has a similar sale when episode 3 launches. I’ll probably pick it up anyway, but saving money is nice.
I used my 10% apology PSN code for these games. Got them for about $20 each for the PS4.
I stick to PC gaming for Telltale. My wife prefers to play them with mouse/keyboard and I feel like Steam does a better job of managing episodic content than the Xbone, not that I’ve tried as yet.
Good morning.
It’s raining. 🙁
Blue skies here!
Is there a bigger New TAY ‘holiday so far’ summary on the way to fuel my jealousy of the awesome holiday you’re now having?
Don’t think there was but there is now.
First though, I have to go to Universal Studios to see the Attack on Titan and Evangelion experiences.
Blue skies here too, after a rainy and cloudy weekend. Typical Sydney
It’s been blue skies with slightly overcast occasionally here since we got here but I don’t know if that’s typical Osaka or not.
Way to one up me haha
I like the rain
Hola Tay
Quiet weekend. Went to the magic prerelease on Saturday night to play 2 headed giant, ended up in a 4! colour deck so I could play a sweet dragon and a sweet planeswalker. Lost two, won our final game.
Sunday I spent playing tech support over the phone with my grandfather. Failed miserably, so going up to his on Tuesday.
A Monday Morning question: Magic has 5 colours, which are broadly linked to different principles:
White: Order/justice
Blue: Knowledge/cunning
Black: Ambition/ruthlessness
Red: Chaos/ aggression
Green: Strength/nature
If you had to put yourself in one or two colours, which would they be?
Black and blue.
I think you mean white and gold 😛
DON’T START ALL THAT AGAIN
In terms of principle, I always felt I could relate to Black more than anything – shades of Red as well.
In terms of play it’s the same. I love the way Black works – so many ways to undermine/diminish your opponent. And Red is always fun for just straight up blasting things. Good old Disintegrate.
I always found Blue to be the most infuriating to play against.
“Ha, you thought that spell was going to resolve. How cute”
It’s like Blue exists just to troll the other colours.
I have a (still untested) Commander deck that’s “Talrand, Sky Summoner” and like 45 counterspells
‘A man was killed in Adelaide yesterday over a game of MTG. Early reports indicate the victim was using a Blue deck at the time.’
I have someone in my playgroup who, while being a good mate, doesn’t realise that multiplayer magic games are as much about the politics as anything else.
This talrand deck is supposed to be an abject lesson in that. You WILL attack other people if you want anything in this game to resolve.
Blue/black.
By the way, I’d put myself as blue/white.
Well there’s no option for stupid or lazy, so it’ll have to be red.
I’m Red!
#tworoomsandaboomProbably Black and White for me
Blue/White
Which coincidentally is the style I most enjoy playing.
Red/Green or Black/Red; interestingly also the decks I like to play; could never get myself into Blue or White though I did dabble in a Blue/Black deck for a while.
Red Green in the upcoming set is gonna be a lot of fun. played it (primarily) on Saturday, there’s just some brutal beaters on-colour.
While I haven’t looked at Magic in almost 2 years; initially Red/Black used to have pretty weak board presence being backed by spells/abilities, once I mixed green into the mix it just provided some solid stability against some of the wild card abilities that come with Red and sometimes Black. That said my most recent deck which was again 2 years ago was exclusively Black; I guess its very mood dependent =P
Too bad none of you TCG Tay’s are in Syd; would be cool to get back into this stuff again.
I do prereleases, draft (poorly) occasionally, and am starting to get into commander with my group as a repository for all those silly draft cards.
Good way to play while still keeping costs down.
I hate when you are playing on @saturday and he rolls over ruining the game
Purple: Tired/bored
I always favoured a green/red deck when I played Magic back in the 90s. I feel that personalitywise I oscaillate between those two quite readily. I can be quiet and harmonious as long as my shit’s in order, but throw me off my game just enough and I become fairly aggressive and temperamental. Sometimes with positive results, other times not. I think this is best expressed in one of my favourite cards, from the mirage expansion, Final Fortune.
Blue I guess
Maybe blue / green
Is this in terms of how I am in real life, or how I approach games?
IRL.
Well, then I wouln’t have a clue what to put there. I know myself worse than anyone I know.
If I was a guessing man, based on what you post here, White or white/something.
Things in order.
That’s actually pretty accurate now that I think about it. I am an absolute stickler for the rules. Almost unbearably so.
Blue/Green/Black
Bounce, bounce c’mon bounce. I said c’mon bounce.
Morning all. Last week at work before a bit of an easter break. Unfortunately that will mostly mean uni assessments, rather than gaming. Hoping to sneak some hours into Bloodborne though.
FFXV seems pretty amazing. Apart from the camera, I love the combat and it really does seem like a totally new type of Final Fantasy game. After what seems like a decade the hype is real!
I’m so old, I cannot believe it’s almost Easter. But yessss four day weekend.
For you maybe, that’s my weekend on, so I’ll more than likely only get one day (Good Friday) and that’s only because we’re closed.
Oh really? But you’ll get like, double time or days in lieu, right?
Pfft, yeah right. But with my job I get paid my full time wage every week no matter if I do 20 hours or 60 hours, so I guess it all works out in the end.
First time I’m considering giving my life up to FF since 7 and 8
What was your issue with the camera?
Apart from scripted scenes I had no issues.
I find during fights its a bit all over the place. That said I’ve only played it for about an hour and a bit, so could be I just need more time with the game
Either way, I’m in love!
Buy Skyline: Cities – it’ll be great, they said.
Get it cheap, use a VPN, they said.
Oof, fuck a VPN. At least I’m getting a refund. Gonna buy the straight up code next weekend. Or not.
Who said use a VPN?
Use greenman and that 20% off code.
I don’t know. The internet probably said it.
The internet says a lot of things.
If the internet told you to
jump off a cliffInvest in bitcoin, would you?True story: I nearly did, a few years ago. But I didn’t have the funds available to invest, so I wasn’t able to pull the trigger. But the “if I had the spare cash this would be interesting to take a punt on” thought was there.
Have to admit, I very nearly took a leap and got some Dogecoin when that started out if only for the name.
One of my best friends works for a BitCoin company! I still have no idea what it all means, but if he asked me to invest, I would. Only because I trust him implicitly.
I’m sure there are people making money off of it, it’s just highly speculative as an investment.
I still have no idea what it is. I have no plans to find out 😀
@janexo took me AGES to understand what it is. I still think it’s a bit weird.
@janexo Think of it as a currency that, instead of being backed by a resource or government, is backed by digital puzzles. Only so many are made but people can make their own pieces if they devote the computing power to it.
Actually using and trading bitcoins is a bit more complicated but I think this works as a lie that gives the shape of the truth.
Don’t trust them, Jane.
Trust us, the TAY Hivemind.
Buy Cities: Skylines – it’ll be great, we said.
We’ll be the only voice you’ll ever need to listen to, we say.
Good morning all. Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. South-east Queensland was just a bit wet over the weekend which was perfect for RPGs! So yeah, I played them and not much else aside from some World of Tanks.
Dark Heresy session summary for those who are interested:
The players did a whole lot of nope and, in true Inquisition style, ordered an orbital bombardment to kill millions of people who were confirmed as being corrupted by Chaos. They also unfortunately pissed off a few influential Mechanicus Magi which will likely come back to bite them.On a side note, having a bit of fun mix-and-matching elements from Dead Space with 40K lore. Papa Nurgle is pleased.
It’s always worth when you do a bit of Exterminatus 😛
It’s actually funny in a way. The main bad guy of the campaign is a Nurgle psyker (who off-screen just got his Mark of Nurgle which makes him really powerful) who was gradually cultivating the destruction of the local planets. If I was one to monologue, I’d have him say things like nurturing a fine wine or something like that. The players coming through and wrecking his plans actually helps in a way because it brings the timeline forward which is a case of win-win for Nurgle. Death and destruction are the end goal for Nurgle and it doesn’t really matter if it’s by his hand or the Imperium’s.
Suffice to say, the players are going to be pissed if they find out they’ve accidentally been helping the enemy. At any rate, their actions so far have actually caused more harm to the residents of the various planets than Chaos has. The death toll comparison is something like several thousand to tens of millions of people as a result of the player’s latest orbital bombardment. 😛
Yep that definitely sounds like the work of Chaos hehe
Not going to lie, it feels good to be bad. 😛
Yeah see this is the kind of villain I absolutely love to RP as one day, the heroes thinking they’re helping foil the villain, they’re just playing right into his/her hands
For some reason I spent a little bit of my weekend creating a Pathfinder character. Not sure why because it’s not like I am starting a new RPG. I’m having trouble taking part in the ones I am already in. =P
It happens all the time with me which is a little bad as a GM. I keep thinking of new ideas for games but have to stop myself and actually finish the ones I’m already running. 😛
Time to start a new RPG?
Don’t tempt me Nob. 😛 I’m already this close anyway, I don’t think I can afford another one at this point. For the record, I’m currently either playing or running six different games with however many others on the backburner waiting for a return. So as much as I would like to, I really don’t have the time available to do so.
Only 6 RPGs? There are 7 days in the week. =P
Easy.
Just set off a couple of TPKs and start a new one 🙂
I wouldn’t be that mean. Or would I…?
That said, I’m getting two different RPGs coming in the mail in the next few weeks based on the Apocalypse and Dungeon World systems. One’s about fighter pilots in WWII and the other is about kobolds having to survive in a world that hates them. And then deluxe Numenera box comes in about late April/early May which would be good to play around with.
New week, new TAY…
Still suffering from the operation I had last week to repair some retinal tearing. Feel very ordinary as sore gloopy eyes are a fount of misery. However, despite horrible poor vision managed to continue my great expedition in Elite:Dangerous. I’ll put a couple of screenshots up tonight.
Went out to 3000-ish LY from Sol. Realised that even my Lakon type-6, even rigged for a really good range, still won’t get me to the system I had in mind. So I’ve aborted, and I’m heading home. The profits from this expedition should get put me well on the way to a maximum-range Asp (as I’ll be able to sell-and-buy-back a lot of the type-6’s equipment). Mostly Harmless, Dealer, Pathfinder until I get home…
I am pretty chuffed to finally have achieved my rank of Baron!
Now I just need to gather enough monies to get my clipper, then it’s time for my pilgrimage
Must try Wings out also. I’ll head down to your location once I’m back in inhabited space and tooled up, say Hi.
How much monies do you need? The Clipper is around 22 million…
Remind me, you planning on heading to Sag A* and the Great Annihilator?
From Achenar to Sag A*… The great Emperial pilgrimage that I’ve just made up… It’s a thing I swear XD
Nifty. That sounds like it should be a Thing. Although you’d think an Imperial Pilgrimage would just be getting to Achenar… it’s a permit system, no?
I still haven’t seen a black hole. Well, not seen exactly. Scanned. Seen the event horizon distortion. Whatever. YKWIM. I haven’t found one, anyway. I know where there are some, but I want to find one on my own dammit.
I got my type 6 last night before I logged off, leaving my Cobra at Witchhaul. Fitted a decent FSD and upgraded the cargo space a bit, and took it for a couple of trips along my rares route. Nearly drove it into two stars along the way, once so bad it malfunctioned and jettisoned all my cargo :'(, and got interdicted twice by the AI. It definitely doesn’t handle like the Cobra, but it’s liberating to be able to jump 17Ly at a time – cuts the number of jumps on my route in half.
Will have to go looking for a shield generator for it, tho – none of the three stations I’ve visited in it stocked them… one would think it’d come standard with the ship. I’m a little concerned about regularly prying the bullets out of my hull 😛
Mine came with a class 2 shield gen. That’ll teach you for buying from Honest Harry’s Hardly-Used Haulers…
But yes, they do not handle much better than a breeze block. I have a reminder pinned on the bottom of my monitor, which says Throttle To Zero When Jump Countdown Begins. Prevents a lot of rapidly accelerating into stars… 🙂 Nice range if you fit all D equipment and a big fat FSD. Mne’s doing 29 unladen… I’m still 120 or so jumps from civilisation though.
Note to self: Find Harry and bop him on the nose. 😛 Tbh, I’m still getting used to the concept that it actually makes a difference where you buy stuff – I’m so used to vendor A == vendor B == vendor C in games, and “shopping around” isn’t something I do much of irl, either.
My Cobra is worth more then my type 6 at the moment XD… Just love my Cobra too much and can’t let go of it… Mostly A fitted at this stage, but thinking of downgrading enduring but fuel scoop and FSD to D grade and use it for my pilgrimage
Whoa, that’s some hard core stuff with your eyes. I hope you feel better, friend.
Thank you kind sir. Yeah. Shit eyes I’ve lived with all my life. I’m just glad they can do this stuff these days. Even 10 or 15 years ago it would have been a terrifying and high risk operation with weeks of sleeping on your side, now it’s day surgery and 10 days of sore eyes and a week off the bike.
Pillars of Eternity HYPE!!! I’ve already booked my days off this week to be wiped off the face of the earth soon as this game comes out =O
Been waiting over a year for it!! ^^
@piat let me know if you’re interested in heroes of the storm cos I’ve got 4 beta keys to give out after playing too much last week =P Same goes for any other TAY’s interested in checking out the game but don’t wana shell out $45 for beta access.
So keen for that, but more keen for Tides of Numenera
I’ve got beta access, just nobody to play with, I have heard it’s a lot better in a full group than going solo, even more so than other MOBAs
Yeah it’s very team based to the point where you’ll know if your teams going to win or not based on how often they rally together for battles within the first 5-10min. Hence me trying to round up a few peeps for it =P
Let me know when you’re free this week and we’ll jump into a few games!
They’ve not said when they’re releasing the keys for backers yet have they? I’d sooner preload it if I can
Still haven’t received an email to say Bloodborne has shipped :'(
Me neither. DON’T THEY REALISE HOW DANGEROUS IT IS TO KEEP HYPE ON HOLD?
So this weekend I bought a new guitar, I’d been trying to learn left handed for about 3 years and had been struggling. So I bit the bullet and bought a right handed one and have made more progress in two days than the previous two years….
I also made my first game, it’s really simple and like asteroids (not as good admittedly) but it was really fun to do and I’ve learnt a lot.
Craaaaap. OzGameShop sent me an email threatening that one of my vouchers was about to expire, and so I not-really-accidentally just pre-ordered Dark Souls 2 for PS4.
That’s it. I’m putting my foot down. No more game buying for… at least ten minutes.
Not the foot!
Dammit, thought the Easters was this weekend.
D’oh!
I downloaded OlliOlli 2 last night. It’s pretty damn great. It feels like the first Tony Hawk game with the challenges, but with the controls from the Skate series. So. Much. Fun.
I feel like I can’t stand going to the footy anymore.
It’s overpriced and underwhelming.
Which footy? 🙂
Sat through ANOTHER Melbourne Rebels home loss on Friday. We’re so so so close to winning these games. It’s very frustrating.
If this is AFL, they hardly ever check the tickets, they just scan it.
Hence get a child ticketWent to see Chappie on Saturday. I really enjoyed it. I have to do a presentation for one of my classes tomorrow on Neill Blomkamp so it’s cool timing his new movie has just released. I mean, I’m the one who chose him for the presentation, and I would have done it about him even if Chappie hadn’t just come out, but still.
I just woke up from a dream where an attractive woman was looking through my internet history. Possibly the worst nightmare I’ve ever had.
Pffft, Incognito Mode exists for a reason. :p
SHIT.
Just remembered that I previously couldn’t play Monster Hunter (3U) and Demon’s / Dark Souls at the same time due to differences in button mappings.
How will I Bloodborne and MH4U?
Noooooooooooooooooooo…
You’ve still got two days to finish off MH4U. #helping
Just to jump on a different HYPE train:
PILLARS OF MUTHAFUCKIN’ ETERNITY YEAH
If I’d remembered this was out this week, I’d have told Mr. Strange to put his JBHiFi vouchers towards a proper computer instead of a dishwasher. Would be perfect to go in the other room and play that in the evenings while Mr. Strange played Bloodborne in the loungeroom.
You could probably play this on a computer from 1998; given they’ve stuck to ye olde Baldur’s Gate feel in terms of graphical representation. It’s part of its charm imo.
Yeah, the problem is that I barely trust my laptop to even run an internet browser these days. That’s even if it will turn on. It’s probably on its last legs.
I do have a computer from 1998 lying around here somewhere though…. 😀
I dunno how good your comp is, but my impression is it’s not going to be super processor intensive
Dishwasher is pretty great, though. It’s the promised land of no more dishes! D:
Really can’t wait to play that, Red. Love Obsidian’s games so much. (Except for Dungeon Siege III. :P)
So got Helldivers in the end. Gotta say, really impressed with the sound design of the guns, god they sound good.
Great game.
So many different hype trains this week!
LIFE IS STRANGE! EPISODE 2! OUT OF TIME! TOMORROW!
Netflix too.
Meh.
That seems a bit unnecessary. I don’t go meh at your Bloodborne excitement. 😛
Fair enough.
I apologize.
It’s good that people enjoy it, but it’s not my thing, regret buying the season pass before I even knew what it was really about. Pretty much the only reason I have to play through the rest of it is for easy trophies.
That’s too bad. 🙁 It’s really weird and cool how varied people’s tastes can be. I played it and was captivated for every second. One of my favourite games in a long time. But yeah, if it’s not your thing, it’s not your thing. 🙂
Like I said, it’s good that people enjoy it, and it’s great that developers are making stuff other than the usual shooty/stabby games, but I just wasn’t feeling it.
You never know it might pick up for me in later episodes.
Will definitely need to pick that up, it looks good.
Think I might get Tales from the borderlands first though
My sister’s doing the same thing. Limiting the amount of episodic games she plays at once. This will be great to mainline though when all the eps are released. Very Quantic Dream-like. (Flaws and all.)
TFtB is great, totally recommend it.
Yeah, probably my favourite Telltale series since TWD season one.
More GoT from Telltale by month’s end, too! And I know you’ve been looking forward to Bloodborne.
Game of Thrones hasn’t really hooked me. I don’t hate it, but not invested in it either. 😀
Guys, I just found out about this bar of chocolate that has little pieces of popcorn in it and I’m going to get some tonight and I will report back and I am very excited to try this.
Chocolate covered popcorn is pretty awesome, so is chocolate covered Pretzels.
Is it the Lindt popcorn one?
Because I bought some of that the other day, and it was pretty cool. Stupidly overpriced, but I guess that’s true for all chocolate these days.
Yeah! The Lindt Hello.
It’s expensive, but I’m okay with spending more on higher quality that will leave me more satisfied. Trying to cut it all out again.
If you’re in brisbane city on Wednesday’s goto the Jan Power markets up near the casino.
A guy does sweet and salty popcorn and it’s the bomb diggity.
Could eat an entire bag for lunch if someone let me…
Oh, Strange used to get pretzels at those markets when we used to have lunch on Wednesdays.
Brisbane! Such a small city!
Sweet and salty popcorn is really easy to make.
1. Cook popcorn in 1 tbsp of oil of your choice (coconut oil is tasty). (Here is an excellent tutorial)
2. While still hot, sprinkle with 2 tsp of caster sugar, and 1 tsp sea salt, and toss well.
3. Eat it all up.
I really don’t make it often enough. It’s such a good snack.
I bought a Chromecast. I almost bought Tragedy Looper.
Oh and I finally submitted our application to ACAT contesting the Notice to Remedy over Alice. It’s going to take 4-5 weeks to resolve but I imagine that will speed up if a Notice to Vacate is issued next week.
Drank copious amounts of alcohol over the weekend. Surprised I didn’t pickle myself.
Had a combined birthday bash with wifey, was meant to be at the park by Brisbane River mid-afternoon on Saturday but we made the call just before lunch to have it at the inlaws place. About 15 minutes before the scheduled start time I’m up the road from original location picking up catering as about 30mm of rain and gale force winds blast across Brisbane CBD.
Party went well at inlaws place after we mopped up the balcony and replaced a dozen smashed glasses blown over in the wind.
Had 6 people come back to our house and things got… rowdy… My kitchen smelt like a pub on Sunday morning, an unopened bottle of tequila that’s been in our cupboard for 4 years was drunk, bottle of jager gone, half a bottle of gin, nearly another case of beer and 4 or 5 bottles of wine/champagne.
There was singing, dancing, reminiscing, laughter, drunken speeches and several toasts.
The damage bill – a two day hangover, a broken couch, a night of the dogs sleeping inside, one soft toy with eyes and nose missing (one very happy dog), a filthy kitchen and a full recycling bin which won’t be picked up till next week.
Also then played some Cities: Skylines yesterday very hung over. Question – how the hell do you manage traffic off the highway when starting a city?
I find it always blocks up a few blocks from the highway exit and until you unlock highways (and need to use them) I can’t think of a decent way to minimise the gridlock between commercial/industrial areas and residential which are typically on opposite sides of a main road.
Oh, by the way… this guy requested we call him hot sweeeet lover! I suggest HSL for short!
You didn’t… With no context… /o\
*runs away redfaced with shame*
*realises pageget too*
*cries*
<3 It was a very entertaining twitter weekend. 😛
It was quite… I’m glad I was too busy on Saturday arvo to ‘bite’ with any of the other names that got thrown about!
Tristicals, T-bag and T-dawg were all contenders.
Hot Sweeeet Lover is the clear winner though! :*
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! 😀
@sunsoar77…
…
…
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! 😀
Sounds like a successful birthday HSL
The more I hear about Cities: Skylines the more I am pushed towards getting it. Maybe I should just reinstall children of the nile
Aside from the rain and wind it sounds like a great weekend had by all.
Also, I demand you change your handle to HSL immediately, you go, do now.
He did it! HE DID IT! HSL’s the best! The best!
You are waaaayy to fast! 🙂
I’m known for my quickness. *cough*
Don’t mind me HSL, sounds like a great weekend!
The two six-lane one way roads are a trap!
A road spine is is important to your city, but if you extend those two lines and feed your roads into them, they’ll fudge up because of the one-square distance between the two ‘intersections’.
Either consolidate that into one great 6-lane road (might be rough if your area has a lot of industry though, dem trucks really clog things up) or branch them off further apart so you avoid the intersection issue.
Rebalance the size of the roads feeding into your highway exits, maybe. The people will usually try to take the larger roads, so if you redistribute the widths of the roads feeding into your highway roads and try funnel people towards certain intersections spaced far apart, you should be able to maximize the traffic light green light synchronisation so that traffic keeps flowing towards the highway, and that you don’t have a billion intersections that are frequently stop and go and clog up your path.
tl;dr
ROUNDABOUTS ARE SO GOOD
Canberra knows what’s up.
Man, I haven’t even gotten into using roundabouts yet. I am the worst Canberran.
Alright, principles of city design to minimise traffic congestion, as parsed by Blaghs’s idiot brain:
As noted, Highways are the best way to handle traffic, and the reason for that is simple: No Lights. Traffic gets congested when it has to stop, and the traffic has to stop at the presence of lights (side note: I can’t remember if one way roads perpendicular to one way roads also have lights, or if they’re just allowed to turn off, but switching some roads to one way definitely helped my congestion). As such, you want to maximise area coverage. The simplest way to do so would be to build a huge goddamn spiral (seriously), but without any option to turn around, anything that wanted to cross the road would have to drive through the entire spiral which is horribly wasteful, and given how building roads in the game works it would be rather silly to try.
With this in mind, I tend to favour T shaped offshoots. Really hideous & shitty drawing here (edit: the green line should probably go between the two main roads, not stop just before it.). That is a main road in black, a medium offshoot (One way is optional, but worth keeping in mind) in green, and the little roads in red, with important services in the middle (yellow) to service the maximum area. You can also do another iteration or two of the Ts if you want (which will make a miny blocky spiral), but be mindful of how far services work, and that it does have some issues in terms of public transport efficiency.
It’s not the most effective strategy possible, but it works fairly well for me (was the main strategy in my bestest city and worked for quite a while, until everything collapsed under the weight of dead bodies).
TRAFFIC NERDS UNITE

Time to get some feedback from the TAY hivemind. Which of the rhyming stutucres do you think works better for a kids song/story. The first verse or the second?
Riding on my bicycle
Riding down the street
Riding on my bicycle
I wonder who we’ll meet
We meet Mrs Green
A teacher at the school
She goes zooming past
Heading to the pool
Riding on my bicycle
Riding down the street
Riding on my bicycle
I wonder who we’ll meet
We pass Sergent Blue
A policeman brave and true
Who keeps us save and sound
As we ride around
Prefer 2nd verse.
Have a book I like to read to my daughter called ‘Pig the Pug’ (it’s actually quite funny) but the rhyming and alliteration flows really well over the entire story making it a real pleasure to read.
The first one, sort of. Assuming that the “Riding on my bicycle” part repeats, I’d go with an ABAB to keep the same rhyming structure the whole way through.
I was thinking this, too. For a kids’ song/story, you definitely want to keep the rhyming structure consistent and – as much as possible – predictable.
Yes that is repeating
Wasn’t sure if I should go with ABAB for the recurring an AABB for the verses
or keep them both in the same format
As @Shane says it needs to be consistent and predictable so it would only be one or the other. Thanks for the feedback
Bought a Chromecast because it seems like the most pain free way to use Netflix.
I’m trying it out now with a random Twitch stream and it’s working quite well. Unfortunately, I can’t use it to stream AFL games in any legitimate fashion. On the other hand, I can still use dodgy streams and pop those up on the TV. It worked with a random Dailymotion wrestling thing, it’ll work with AFL. Not a good solution but a better one than what I had before.
Also, Netflix. That seems like a good deal right now.
Chromecast! Wooooo! I’m going to use the PS4 app as my primary way to access Netflix. When I tried Stan it was one of the things I wanted most, a way to stream onto the TV.
Really excited about Netflix launch. Enough content to ensure atleast a subscription for a month!
I would have used my PS3 but it doesn’t like our network much. The Chromecast leeches off of my laptop, which has a much much better connection. Admittedly, this Twitch stream I’m using to test is bouncing between Source, Medium and Low quality. Perfectly watchable but not perfect.
As for Netflix, the leaked catalog was definitely justification enough to give it a shot. I’ll VPN up to get access to US/UK/CAN content if this is lacking. Still, I really want to support this sort of model. All they had to do was give it a reasonable price and a reasonable amount of content. I don’t think anyone could say they haven’t done that.
I got one for the same reason. Seems ok for youtube which I’ve tested it on.
Mrs Tigs has tried a bunch of catchup TV and seems ok for that as well. Was leaning towards Stan as a subscription service but now will have to weigh up the difference.
Maybe just get the Stan trial and watch Gallipoli and then try netflix
Shout out for all of the Pathfinder people, who can make it tonight? I know Freeze and Neg are in Japan and I think Nob and Rize are still busy but let me know if you can make it.
@redartifice @tech_knight @sernobulus @beeawwb @rize
yeah, working again tonight.
Yeah I can jump in on this, still got a stuffy nose but I’m mostly feeling better.
I can make tonight, yes, but I’m flying to Sydney at 5am in the morning so if we’re going to be low on players and postponing for another fortnight is an option I’d probably prefer that.
But if we’re going ahead, I can absolutely be in.
@tech_knight @redartifice Considering B-ob’s circumstances and that Techie you sound like you haven’t quite kicked the sickness, did you guys want a week off and come back next time? At this stage it’s only going to be the three of you playing as I haven’t heard anything from Rize yet and he did say he was going to be busy for a few weeks in a row. I’m happy to run for the three of you but if you want to take a night off, by all means.
Indeed might be better to let this one pass then, if we get into a fight it’ll be very difficult for all of us to get through unscathed… and by “we” I really mean “me” :P. Might be best to leave it for this week so B-ob gets enough early sleep.
I’m not as bad as I was last week but yeah this stuffy nose is quite annoying.
What is this “Sleep” you speak of? I think I have more than 5HD so I’m not affected by it.
Yeah, OK, night off works too, gives me time to clear the gaming slate before PILLARS
I’m in
so much for a productive weekend…
my to do list:
1. unjam 3D printer
2. setup Wii remote IR tracking on laptop
my actually done list:
1. play Space Run
2. play more Space Run
also Space Run is pretty great… except for when a series of unfortunate circumstances leaves you with two exposed reactors and a portable nuke silo handing off the back of your ship because an asteroid ate all your engines… and the third of the ship they were attached to… and his buddies are coming for that nuke…
(protip: engines which can shoot fire behind you when overcharged are a good investment)
and I just got notification of a large box arriving at my parents’ place – methinks my Super Dungeon Explore collection is about to get a whole lot bigger!
I really disliked Space Run, it felt like it was a bit inflexible and more “solve this puzzle by putting stuff in exactly the right place for maximum points” than it was about creating a strategy like the reverse tower defence game it was pitched as. Cool concept and really nice looking, well made game, but I did not like the execution.
fair call – I also think the tower defense pitch did the concept a disservice, since to me it seemed more of a tactical economics and area control challenge like a cross between FTL and Z. I also probably spent far too long in mission planning because to me it was a fun mental jigsaw puzzle when trying to fit the bigger modules like the defense array and fully powered death ray lasers around cargo like stargates or lounges.
Space Run \o/
I haven’t played SDE but it does look cool
I haven’t had a chance to actually play it properly, but I collect it as much for the minis themselves. I also still need to read the new revised rules coming with Forgotten King since I have replacement cards for my original sets coming from the Kickstarter.
Weekend? Parents had friends over, to crack out the woodfire oven again and show off the new backyard stuff and also tell them all about the whole adoption thing from the other month. That was fun, I got to be in charge of fire. My shirt still smells like smoke.
Had to leave early though because I was going with Wingman and Pillowmaker to go see Chappie. SO GOOD! SO many feels. All of us felt kind of exhausted once it was over 😛
Then the next day we went out for waffles.
Elite – currently searching for a new place to set up shop deeper in Empire space, since my fringe world wasn’t netting me enough rep. It’s hard though, trying to find a place with enough resources readily available. Might be onto an ok spot, just need to run some missions to see whether it regularly tries to send me to way-too-far-off-from-the-drop-point stations at all.
You should totally come to Wangal… There’s a group of other Aussies there supporting the course!
Hmm. I shall jump on and have a bit of a poke around.
Current candidate is Ch’i Lin. It’s right near a couple of high tech and agricultural systems, and one of the agricultural ones has an anarchy outpost on it that sells some weapons as well as slaves, which could be handy. Also Ch’i Lin’s station is just 10ls from drop, and has all the top upgrades for my Sidewinder which is nice.
Seems like it has potential. So many empty systems nearby though, such a waste 😛
But lots of industrial… Averaging 1.1k credit per ton on average
Factions? Missions? Ranks? Other ships?!?
*drifts off into endless space again*
I’ve been considering going off on a big exploration trip once I hit triple-allied with the three factions. Fit out an Asp so it’s set for a nice long journey, then go on a nice big trip around the galaxy. Maybe go via Sagittarius A* and check that out, hopefully make it back alive. Actually maybe once I’m allied with the Empire, I’ll go off and do that then come back and sell all the exploration data to an Alliance station and use that rep boost to become allied with them too. Dunno.
Biggest risks once you’re far enough out to not run into pirates, which is really 20-30LY beyond the edge systems, are heat damage and accidentally dropping out of supercruise. I’ve done 5000+LY travel and I’m still showing 100%.
I’m most scared about getting tagged by an angry NPC or an idiot kill-everything griefer on the way back in before I get a chance to sell the probably 2 million of exploration data onboard…
Honestly I don’t get how pirates are at all a risk anyway. The only times I’ve been interdicted recently are when I’m just sitting stationary in a system trying to get signal sources to pop up. And they’ve almost always just been an Eagle or even Sidewinder anyway, so I’ve just fried them within the space of a minute and been on my way. Submit and boost away seems like an easy enough escape method.
Of course I haven’t really come across any players at all, so that’d likely be a different story. Only ones I’ve seen recently have been when I’ve jumped over to grab weapons from Tarach Tor, which has a rare commodity available so presumably they’re there for rare trading. But none of them even say anything or interact at all, feels like I may as well just be playing Solo 😛
Actually, you should be able to transfer exploration data to other commanders. In that it feels like pirates should be able to steal from explorers too, not just traders.
Came out of hyperspace at Leesti. Interdicted on way to George Lucas by a player wing. Fer-de-lance blew me up in seconds.
Rebuy on insurance. Very next rare run, was heading into Leesti again and lining up to dock. A python and escorts came steaming in and missiled me into smithereens without warning as they docked at full speed.
Gits.
You know, it’s starting to feel like you’re just baiting inappropriate responses sometimes. 😛
Edit: aaaaand this is an unexpected reply fail to our very own racist homonym, obviously.
I guarantee that popcorn was involved!
…. *grabs popcorn*
I could only dream of being so clever >_>
I totally should have just mentioned how I slept with Wingman, and left it at that without mentioning the qualifier of us just staying up late lying on her bed talking about life/the universe/everything til sleep happened.
But yeah, not clever 😛
Hey @dc
http://www.msn.com/en-au/entertainment/celebrity/taylor-swift-reportedly-bought-a-porn-site-domain-so-you-couldnt/ar-BBizLqc?ocid=mailsignout
Shoud we have a whip around and buy the domain for @markserrels.porn
Or @shane could buy the one he came up with the other day blood.porn
You’re assuming that I haven’t already. You’re further assuming that it hasn’t been a very nice little Bunsen burner for me these last fourteen years.
Mark Serrels Porridge Porn! Think you might have a winner on your hands! 😉
There’s porn for everything these days. I wonder if the porridge porn niche has been filled?
It will never be filled til it’s got your name all over it! 😉
https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/business/a/26767069/iinet-founder-opposes-tpg-deal/
iiNET and TPG deal runs into complications. Could still be voted down.
I hope it does, I’m sure there’s a lot of iiNet customers that have jumped ship already. If it doesn’t go through, they may be able to win those customers back.
BLOGBRIIIIIINE
Two days to go… the afternoon edition
Chalice Dungeon boss preview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvicX9t4jI8 Seems easy. Really easy. Look – this guy almost hits him once.
Bloodborne has fewer weapons, but more permutations: http://www.vg247.com/2015/03/22/bloodborne-how-man-weapons-are-there-more-variations-than-dark-souls/
The customisation options look really interesting. Can’t wait to get in there and start mucking around with them.PS4 faceplates? They’re a thing? Who knew? Anyway, there’s a Bloodborne one now: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2015/03/20/project-skylight-new-bloodborne-ps-symbols-ps4-faceplates/
There also seems to be a widespread murmur (in the North Americas anyway) that preload has begun for those who ordered Bloodborne digitally.
Fake Bloodborne liker guy! 😛
What’s Bloodborne?
@evilmonkey
IT’S SHIPPED. HOLEY SHEET.
Ugh. Shippers are the worst.
I’m excited for you guys!So has mine, got tracking number too. WOOT!
With the impending launch of Netflix we should have some sort of… TV or movie club. We choose a movie/tv show. Something a bit obscure that we all haven’t seen. And then talk about it.
…
Or not. What do I care? *flips table and runs away crying*
Well that escalated quickly.
What is the first show/movie nominated?
Movies? I nominate Disney’s The Princess and the Frog. Because I haven’t seen it. And I’m a selfish jerk. 😛
It’s awesome. You’re gonna love it. ESPECIALLY because you’re a Treme fan.
That’s what I was thinking. 😀
Also a controversial choice might be Weekend. I’ve seen it, but I’m sure most haven’t. It’s gay themed and I know that might put people off, but it’s also just a really solid and well produced character drama.
Let Me In/Let the Right One In are both on Netflix as well. Excellent atmospheric, slow burn horror. Basically the same movie, though. XD
Everyone feel free to throw out ideas and we’ll see what sticks!
Here’s the launch line-up:
http://imgur.com/a/wz74R
I know one of the first movies I’ll watch is “No”
It’s about the advertising campaign that lead to the removal of Pinochet from power in Chile, supposed to be very good
Kill la Kill is on there? Weird. Didn’t expect that sort of thing to be on Netflix.
Could be a good choice, that is one I haven’t seen either
How about we start with the original, UK House of Cards? It was one of the first titles to grab my attention and it seems like one most people would like.
I’ve seen the first episode of that. It’s pretty rad! 🙂
Sounds good to me
I see The Returned on the list as well. It’s got some amazing buzz and @strange loved it. French show!
The Returned is the US remake. No idea what it’s like. Everyone needs to watch the original French version Les Revenants, though.
Ooooooh! That’s too bad!
Having seen all of that series, I give it 5 stars.
Yeah, that sounds cool. Probably won’t be able to sign up to Netflix till Friday though.
I’m going to wait a few days before signing up too. Just to give them a bit of time to work out any kinks that are bound to come up from launching.
Probably smart. I want to get it on day one, though. To see how my net usage copes. It resets at the start of the month, so will give me a week to put it through its paces. 😀
I get it unmetered, and will likely grab it by the end of the week to give it a shot
I have unlimited downloads.
I upgraded to TPG’s unlimited plan last month when I realised that one week with Stan. had used up 75% of my “on peak” downloads. Of course it’s ridiculous that TPG gives you 500gigs then only lets you used half of it between the hours of 3:15am and 3:22am every other Tuesday in the first place, but whatever. $10 more a month is worth it.
I’m going to sign up day one but I don’t expect to get any solid use out of the service for the first couple of days. I know that sounds ridiculous, but I want in on the ground floor!
Sounds good, count me in.
The first show you must watch will be Shameless (US)! 😛
I’ll make a list of my must-see stuff once I see the final catalogue for everyone. (Hint: The first show on the list will be Danger 5). Is there a way of sharing playlists via Netflix? That’d be pretty great.
I was hoping Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt would be on this list! You’ve already seen it though, right? RIGHT? I did see Rubber was on the list as well. Haha!
Rubber is on there??
YES!
(Is there a text version of the list anywhere? Haven’t been able to find one. Hard to find specific things in a massive image :P)
Not that I’ve seen, alas. That would take a level of dedication I don’t have. 😛
DC! DC!
They have Battle Royale. And The Host.
DC!
Every time you talk about The Host I like to think you’re talking about the Twilight writer movie. 😛
(don’t watch Rubber :P)
Finally going to watch the shit out of Full Metal Alchemist.
They have the original available on DVD, cheapest I could find was $150 at JB for the two 6-disc collections. D:
A Netflix club! What a splendid idea, I’ll check my internet download speed and then choose a plan!
(400kb/s)
*flips table, runs away crying*
This guy! THIS GUY! I like this guy!

HOLY CRAP.
I regret to inform you that I have secured some funding from Creative Partnerships Australia and Undad will enter its second ‘season’ very shortly.
Sorry
BloodborneNo. Sorry
family.No…
Sorry, sleep. Looks like you and I won’t be in each other’s lives for a while.
Wow! 😀 😀 😀
Congrats, my friend! So proud of you!
Thanks, man. Everything’s coming up Shane this year, it seems.
Now I gotta put together a Kickstarter campaign, and a new creative team. If I can raise $3500 in Kickstarter by late May, they’ll provide another $3500.
I will kick you right in the starter this time.
I get to kick him again. \o/
I kicked him pretty hard the first time, to be fair. I like kicking people.
Are you locked down to $3,500 or are you able to get up to the $300,000 if that is what you get out of the kickstarter?
Also if the kickstarter is guaranteed to be doubled can you half the amount you ask for as the required amount to get it produced
I’m not locked to a $3500 goal. The campaign can raise as much as it will, but these guys will only match the first $3500.
I invested a lot of my own money into the first book of Undad. $7000 is a pretty good guestimate for how much it will actually cost to get book 2 made, so in that sense I’ve already halved the amount I want to ask for.
So that’s a second season following on from the initial four-volume bonanza? Awesome! Congratulations.
Of course, now we need to brainstorm (ha) theme names for a second season. Undad: Regenerated?
Dad By Dawn.
Edit: yep. Another four issues (160-200 more pages) is what I’ll be aiming for with this ‘season’!
Dad of the Dead.
Octodad: Dadliest Catch.
Undad: Unearthed
Undad and buried
Undad: The Z-word
Night of the Living Dad
Undad 2: Dosdad.
Undad Saves Christmas/Goes to Summer Camp
There was going to be a Christmas themed issue in my original brainstorm. QUIT LOOKING AT MY NOTES.
Stop storing your notes in our psychic link ether world!
Well, Jesus was a notable zombie
I’ve already made the Zombie Jesus joke in the Easter-themed story 😛
STOP. LOOKING. AT. MY. NOTES >:(
Stop storing your notes in our psychic link ether world!
Undad: Grave Warning
“You Shall Find Me a Grave Man” because it references Shakespeare (who doesn’t love referencing 400 year old poetry?) and can be taken either as a dire prediction (as per Mercutios hysterical dying rant), or in the true spirit of Romeo and Juliet, an order given out of desperate longing by someone who seeks the company of the dearly departed.
Whoa whoa whoa.
That’s way too high-brow, poindexter.
I expect nothing less from our Aurealis award nominated comic writers.
I like it.
I won’t use it, because Undad is not Shakespeare, but I really like it.
WHAT
Guess I must have oversold it before. Sorry, man 😛
Undad: The Dig
Noooo, we want Shane to actually finish it. >:(
Brilliant.
Undad: Bring Out Your Dad
Undad: I’m not Dad (I’m Getting Better)
Undad: Not Mum
Undad: Show Us Your Dad
Undad: Bloodborn
UnDad 2: UnMum
Any chance of getting it through a traditional publisher if you’ve got it part underwritten? I’m just wondering if kickstarter is the best method for a second season?
I totally get what you’re saying, but for now, this is the way to go.
The TOC for the MATCH funding requires a crowdfunded project. They’ll match up to $3500 of funds that I raise via Kickstarter. That up front money is how I’ll be able to pay artists for their work.
Ah cool
Always nice to go into a kickstarter saying “If you put in money it’s for production, rest has been paid for”
Makes the value proposition a lot better. Given I’m actually employed this time I’ll be able to get a physical ver!
It’s started: whispers in the corridors about who got the “good” laptops and who got the “old” laptops when everyone in claims was recently converted across from desktop PCs for business continuity purposes. As someone with a “good” laptop, I have to be on my guard until this all blows over.

Oh wow, just found out that Optus is unmetered with Netflix too! HOORAY! 😀
We also get Orange is the New Black s3 on the same day as US.
Ooooh! I thought we weren’t, did it change? 😀
DID IT, DANIEL!? 😀
IT TOTALLY DID! Negotiated new deal!
Sweet!
Just a quick question:
I dunno if you all know this, but SA is holding a royal commission into the Nuclear fuel cycle. Working up a proposal thing for work, but just as a quick am-i-in-touch-with-my-demographic thing:
Nuclear: Y/N?
Not weapons, and not necessarily a nuclear power reactor, just how do you feel about it as a thing?
Y, but then I grew up around nuclear power. Hell, my class used to take field trips to Diablo Canyon so it’s a “normal” thing as far as my brain is concerned.
Are there better options, e.g. wind, solar, geothermal, etc? Yes. Is it better than the alternatives of coal, CSG, etc? I think so.
Aside from growing up with it, this is where I stand.
Nuclear should be an option and a good one to supplement things like wind/solar that are not constant.
N, If we have safer alternatives I don’t see the need to indulge in nuclear power. While it probably is arguably one of the most efficient forms of power generation on the planet; we have no means of recovery or reversal of a fallout event (regardless of how miniscule the possibility of one is in our day and age). If we aren’t able to reverse the worst possible scenario we shouldn’t indulge in the option unless the need is dire.
What about involvement in producing fuel for existing reactors?
You mean the manufacture of fissile materials as an export effectively subsidizing Australia’s shrinking mining sector?
My knowledge of nuclear reactors is definitely less than what I would like it to be; however if the extraction and manufacture of nuclear materials has little to no negative impact in its production then I wouldn’t be against it.
However as I see it nuclear energy has an expiry date; however not in the same sense that fossil fuels do. Nuclear energy is very polarizing in the public’s eye; and even if a country implemented a system that was 99.99999% safeguarded the possible consequences of a single mishap would devastate the industry effectively shocking any suppliers in that market space. So by extension if the question is should we as a country or state invest in another fuel that isn’t sustainable given current factors I would have to say no.
Cool, thanks for your reply.
No right answers, as I said, just interested in getting different perspectives. I sit closer to @beeawwb and @trjn, personally, but I’m interested in seeing other arguments that are just as nuanced so I can keep them in mind throughout the process I’m working on here.
No worries =] My primary bias in just about any decision I make with investments is can I see a foreseeable end to a product; if the answer is yes I usually can’t bring myself to back it.
Personally I would feel a lot more comfortable with nuclear products as a whole if we had means of mitigating or even reversing any damage they could cause. Given humanity as a whole has decided we don’t even want to invest in doing this for fossil fuels I doubt we’ll have much movement on the nuclear side =P
Thanks for the question though; I do enjoy head scratchers around topics I haven’t indulged in; in a while =]
Went to a presentation the other day where a guy reckons (A guy= expert, not just a “guy” guy) you can reprocess the fuel, bung it in a modern reactor and the waste becomes a 300 year problem, not a 10,000 year problem.
If that’s a thing, that changes the maths considerably.
I want to say Y but I have a feeling that it’ll turn into the asbestos industry all over again. We’d be binding our society to a resource that has to be very carefully managed to ensure that there are no negative effects. Considering how lax human society is and the fact that we can never be 100% foolproof or be completely safe, I don’t think we could handle nuclear energy unless it was fully automated and controlled by self-sustaining, perfect robots.
So N. While good, considering how badly we handle fossil fuels as it stands, I’d rather not see our current approach applied to nuclear energy.
This is pretty much how I stand on this too
Y as an alternative to burning coal.
But overall N because I’d much rather see a bigger investment in totally renewable energy.
What about producing or reprocessing of fuel for other countries’ reactors?
I don’t really know what that means in terms of production processes. What does that involve? Storing other countries’ nuclear waste? Producing nuclear waste of our own?
We would mine fissile materials and supply them to the reactors of other countries. Think coal for the coal processing plants in other countries effectively; however we wouldn’t burn it ourselves.
Personally I doubt as a country we could export a product we weren’t willing to use ourselves =P
Yeah, essentially this, except we already do export yellowcake which is processed into fuel rods for reactors
taking other countries’ waste and processing it, then reselling the reusable parts back.
In many cases the original uranium is from aust. mines.
I tend to think that anything we mine here should be produced/refined here. That makes sense if we have nuclear power but transporting processed nuclear materials to the other side of the globe (I think the closest viable buyer is India)… that’s a whole different kettle of fish.
I have this weird moral position.
While the vaguely recent stuff in Japan may have changed things, last I checked nuclear power was still the safest form of power (I assume that’s based on watts generated or something, not overall, and this was about 2012). Not to mention that modern nuclear reactors are a factor safer than ones from the 80s.
But I still wouldn’t want one in my backyard, and I’m much happier “seeing” the truly renewable energy sources being used, and I think they’re a better investment in the future, despite the fact that they’ll be completely eclipsed by future technology way faster than nuclear would.
Y, as in y aren’t they doing more with those thorium reactors everyone seems to say are so great? 😛
I don’t really have any problems with it, it seems like a better option than burning coal so long as you don’t have people shutting off and/or ignoring all the safeguards and don’t build on fault lines.
N
Investment, particular in solar for us could meet all our needs. Besides the issues with nuclear waste the main issue is that there are limited uranium reserves. So to rework our infrastructure to an option that is non-renewable makes no sense to me
Edit: The other thing I like is a distributed energy network so we don’t get issues like when we had the gas refinery explosion in 1999/2000 and most of Melbourne had no gas for a couple of weeks
Depends of what day you ask me, but N.
I think investment in solar energy is a better strategy long-term, and those wind turbines look awesome. There is also the concern of nuclear waste, the fact that uranium is still a finite resource, the innovations in the fields of thorium making building nuclear stuff now rather than five years from now will lead to a difference in quality, the fact that maintaining this shit is bloody hard and easy to muck up, and the dangers of it all going horribly wrong. It’s probably better than coal, but I feel investment in nuclear power is should be invested elsewhere.
I am so addicted to pokemon shuffle. My lack of bookmark making is unrelated.
Question, would people be willing to pay an extra dollar if the triforce on the bookmarks is foiled.
Sure, not sure what the normal price was, but an extra dollar is neither here nor there to me.
I will attempt to keep costs down. Hopefully about $5, but I’m not sure atm
I hope you’re not pricing them so low that your not making any money off them. But yeah, at 5 bucks I’d probably grab a couple.
That…is actually a massive problem of mine. I never feel my stuff is worth much or I tend to undercharge. I do not want to go over $10 as it is a ridiculous price to pay
Value : Price is a personal judgement made on both sides of the transaction.
Trick is finding the spot where it makes both parties as happy as possible. 🙂
Me: Um, it’s not great but…you know what, just pay me for materials…I’m sorry it’s terrible, just take it so I don’t have to look at it!
Ask anyone I have made a cosplay for, I fuss.

Not sure if I like this variation. I need opinons
I think I like the other one better.
I now have two for the blue and two for the pink/purple
I’d be happy to buy a couple of different designs all at once. Keen for a JSRF one if you can.
Also, don’t stress so much about it, they look great. And don’t say sorry 😛
I’m trying to get the Zelda ones done in time for Brisnova. Shane has agreed to sell them there for me as a test run.
I’m doing Epona next, and either gannondorf or a cucco one. After that I’m not sure if I want to go pokemon, TWEWY, JSRF or Okami
Tell me about it (Pokemon Shuffle).
…I have a thing for match-3’s, ok?
Shit.
Now I feel like I have a massive headache…
🙁
Can one of you guys make sure my link for the Claptrap competition works properly?
Also, I totally drew an entry for the Claptrap competition.
It works! \o/
I thought this comp was closed – when did the closing date get changed?
Thanks for checking, Shane! 😀
No clue. Today was the first day I saw the competition, haha! Definitely says that the closing date is the 26th though.
There is a section where he said he got the original closing date wrong though.
@blaghman @theatrefolk and @melbtay
Have you been to the Regent Theatre Melbourne. We are looking at getting tickets to the lion king and wondering what the best options are.
Cheapest tickets are the last few rows in the dress cirlce,
Otherwise we are looking at either in the stalls under the dress circle overhang or more than half way back up on the dress circle. Current thought would be stalls but anybody have any thoughts/advice?
I’m interested in this information as well!
Umm, it’s been a while since I’ve been to the Regent (If I’ve been there. Last show I remember in Melbourne was Princess, I think), but odds are you’ll have a better view of everything on stage from the dress circle, but clearer (by which I mean louder, feel the band!) sound in the stalls.
Some of the people in the Sydney Theatre group have experienced the equivalent in the Capitol, so they might have opinions.
And based on the lion king, which of those benefits would be more important for that particular show
Yes.
(I think a better view of the stage would be, err, better, but I’m not really sure. Its music is more vocal heavy than instrument based, and that tends to carry fairly well throughout the theatre)
I have sat in all of the areas you have mentioned for multiple shows, as a non-theater snob I think the cheapest tickets in the dress circle should suit!
Jelly though you’re going to The Lion King, I had to give my tickets away so I could play in the Futsal finals 🙁
Oh no! My comments are going into moderation! :O
Must be because I changed my primary email address :S
How incredibly annoying :'(
Does editing work?
Nope :'(
I can see this~!
BLOODBORNE TOMORROW(?)! YAY US PSN!
Just a heads up there’s a 2.7GB patch to download as well :/ (I’m sure many more will come)
I also added a bunch of y’all on PSN. It’s surprisingly easy to do on the PS4! 😀
_____
I’ll also meet my new boss and team tomorrow :o. I’m so lucky I got invited to a 2 hour meeting with my new division :P… FREE LUNCH! though. I think the CFO knows who I am at least since we play soccer. He totally forwarded like 5 game invites for the company competition. One of the games is against my current division, ooooo rivalry! 😀
_____
NETFLIX TOMORROW! There’s supposed to be a 1 month trial or something isn’t there? I’m sure everyone will post their thoughts so I’m interested in hearing how it goes… but I’d probably be too busy Bloodborning to do anything else 😛

Though in my second playthrough of TWD, I went to the other dude instead.Spoilers for the outcomes of that choice, if you’re interested (TWD S2-E2):
Either way, Nick survives and he dies.I can’t exactly check, since I had to clear my prefs twice during Ep 2, and so some of my choices don’t exactly appear to exist, but I’m pretty sure I did everything the same as you in Tales.
Heading to bed.
Night.

Sure is.
Goodnight, Crazy-G :*
Monster Hunters, Universal Studios in Osaka has a big attraction, Monster Hunter the Real set up. Took some footage you guys might enjoy.
Monster Hunter the Real Zinogre: http://youtu.be/7wxxtIR26lg
Keep in mind this thing is 1:1 scale so it’s pretty massive.
Did you try the tasty meat from the MH food stalls?
It’s a freaking huge leg of lamb. So Tasty!
Just finished the campaign mode of Battlefield: Hardline. Bit of the multiplayer tomorrow night, then bring on Bloodborne baby.
What’s the campaign like? I’m thinking about buying this after I’ve moved onto my next game lol.
The campaign’s pretty good, it’s fairly short though. But that doesn’t really matter so much, with Battlefield the multiplayer’s where it’s at. Haven’t tried that out yet though, so I can’t really comment on it. @beardymcmuttonchops has.
@shane is a Bloodborne baby the exact opposite of a #FromWidow
Wow, we really fucked up in tonights session of D&D. One players actions resulted in 85 innocent people blowing up.
Civil war or magical mishap? 85 dead people as a result of your actions is a pretty evil move.
Hey, it wasn’t my actions. I was busy getting roflstomped (literally). Honestly, the other dwarf and I would have died in the explosion if we didn’t both roll 20s on our attempt to charge through the wall.
My bad. Didn’t see that my phrasing was accusing you of the deaths so I’m sorry about how I worded that. It sounds like things went incredibly downhill in the session and that the party that you’re in were lucky to escape with your own lives.
We’re all blaming this guy. He started it all. We were supposed to just investigate something, he’s the one who walked into a bar, stood in front of the biggest half-orc there, then pull out his rapier and poke his dick with it.
Wtf. I think Firefox applied an upgrade before when opening it up after a crash, and now hyperlinks won’t turn purple when they’re visited. But weirdly enough, old ones that I’d already visited before are still purple. Except when I click them now, they turn from purple to blue. FF WHAT ARE YOU DOING.
Ok. Seems to be behaving now. Maybe.
Signed up for Netflix right after midnight, went to bed with the iPad and an episode of Arrested Development.
The future! \o/
The future is pretty rad but I still want a hoverboard. Mattel, get on that shit.
They need to be in pretty broad circulation by October, you’d think we’d have some prototypes making their way to investors by now.
And flying DeLoreans.
Well at least Marty’s Nikes are coming out this year, that’s gotta count for something.
I love you Type-0
I’m sure your blood loves you too.
Ha ha?
I have no idea when I’ll be able to afford this. Stop taunting me with your enjoyment! 😛
Seriously though, I’m so glad to see you’re enjoying it. I’m pretty sure I’m going to love it too.
It’s quite good. Quite
It’s the reason I haven’t bought a bunch of other games, bought the expensive one
@shane
Bloodborne is in transit. Woop Woop!
Mine too, man! \o/
This is a repost.
I’m trying to decide whether the back of the bookmark should have a blue Nayru’s symbol, or the faded pink/purple. Please help me decide! You can just upvote if you feel lazy
http://www.kotaku.com.au/2015/03/talk-amongst-yourselves-320/comment-page-2/#comment-3283058
I FORGOT THE LINK
As I said on the previous page I kind of prefer the faded pink/purple, but screw it, I reckon I’ll take one of each, if that’s not gonna be too much trouble.
Dammit guys, I’m trying to figure out which one should be sold. =P
Does anyone want a Ganondorf one? He’s pretty complicated and I don’t really wanna do it
If it’s gonna be too much work for you then no, keep it simple Scree, keep it simple.
Zelda was bad enough, the thingy in front of her skirt was complicated.
I think the faded pink looks good if the focus is on the crest. I’m not really across Zelda games so not sure how ‘important’ that 2nd symbol is
Not super important really.
In that case I would go with the pink rather than the blue
Having the Nayru symbol blue kinda draws too much attention to it. Pink looked better.
Happy Tuesday TAY!
I went on a video game binge on the weekend, I played some Dying Light, Europa Universalis and Dragonball Xenoverse.
I’m loving Dragonball the most, I felt pretty nostalgic playing through some of the quests that I watched on the DBZ anime as a kid so that felt pretty cool. Otherwise my only other cool thing I did of note was cooking Salmon with lemon & herb garnish with beans, cherry tomatoes and carrot to get some brownie points from bae.
I really want Xenoverse but 2 hurdles:
1.No spare cash
B. No remote play for some unknown reason.
Probably, after I get cash & pick up some other stuff, I will grab it.
and then I will kamhameha it!
Regale me on the meaning of remote play?
Using a Vita to play PS4 games.
Being a dad, it’s a very used feature.
My PS3 pile grows but I knock over PS4 games with ease.
(& remote play is supposed to function with every game except stuff that requires the camera or whatever)
Xenoverse is the best game ever for the ability to do Ginyu Force poses.
Yus! Apparently my Bloodborne has finished downloading ;D
Also any idea how to change the quality of a Netflix stream on PC? It doesn’t buffer but it’s not very good quality. I’m on the premium one so I should be getting some sort of HDness
I find it takes about 30 secs to readjust quality. Starts off dodgy and gets near hd very quick. Really loving Netflix though, watched Unbreakable Kimmy Schimdt pilot this morning!
Ah! I was only watching 10 second chunks this morning to test it out 😀
I mostly played GTA V over the weekend instead of Destiny like usual, and playing in first-person mode has really taken some adjustment. The thing that really surprised me is that while the car interiors have some cool detail, the rear view mirrors don’t work at all – you just get extremely basic lo-res texture of terrain and sky, meaning you have no idea what’s behind you unless you click in the right stick to have your character turn around and look out the back window.
Also I’m hopeless at flying in first person so as much as I’d love to try to play everything in the first person perspective, it’s not worth the frustration. That said, there’s an achievement for playing I think 30 hours in FPS mode and I’m probably coming up on that fairly soon. I think it will start to become the exception rather than the rule once that achievement pops. There are some games that give you decent situational awareness despite your limited field of view in first-person, and GTA is not really one of them.
All of that aside, I’m really enjoying playing it a second time and I’m glad I held off until picking up the next-gen version to do so. I’m also using a guide to abuse Franklin’s assassination missions and maximise the money on all threee characters because the thing that really drove me bonkers the first time around was that you spend most of the game borderline broke despite completing all of these elaborate heists, and the windfall you get in the endgame heist doesn’t last you – so I’m saving all of Franklin’s missions for last.
Lastly, I love GTA Online – but the community remains a pack of complete assholes where high level characters just constantly grief newbies. I have actually really enjoyed playing my on “invite only” session and doing jobs alone. Most of the races allow you to play solo so yeah, I’ve happily played a bunch of races totally solo just to rack up money/experience. If I feel like a deathmatch I can join one of the invites that randomly come to my phone. Once I’ve hit level 12, I’ll look into doing some heists or something, but for now i’m happy to limit my online experience to simply exploring the city with my personalised character, which is what I wanted to to originally, just without assholes hunting me down and killing me for no friggin’ reason.
That’s one thing I’ve noticed with GTA is that the online community has zero tolerance for newbies, even with GTA IV, my first experience consisted of hearing people saying they were going to boot me over and over, just because I wasn’t really sure what I was supposed to be doing.
That kind of stuff kills games. It’s not like you really get anything out of killing other players unless they were dumb enough to carry around large sums of cash despite the game telling them PUT IT IN THE BANK, DUMMY so it’s literally being a dick for the sake of being a dick, and possibly making the developer say “hey, no one likes this thing we made, I guess we’ll stop supporting it”.
One of the worst I had was I was in a gun store buying weapons when I had literally JUST started back on 360, and some guy started shooting at me from outside the store. I was helpless. Then he spawncamped me at the hospital. I did try challenging him to a deathmatch just to keep from being spawncamped but he hunted me down in his souped-up custom vehicle with an SMG while I had nothing but a pistol.
That kinda shit is why I stopped playing it. Which is a shame, because it was so fun when you had a friend or two to mess around with. Like the time Shiggy and I tooled around holding up gas stations and convenience stores.
I have unmetered Netflix so I made an account this morning to check it out on PS4. About to watch Sword Art Online with my breakfast.
Also, I’m pretty disappointed about Dragon Age DLC being a timed exclusive. I’m still playing it now, but I’ll probably be done with it by the time the DLC gets to PS4. Oh, and I finally watched that Dawn Of The Seeker animated Dragon Age movie over the weekend. It was hilariously bad. But some good fight scenes.
Yeah, console exclusive games are one thing, but multi-plat games/DLC that are timed exclusive are absolute bullshit.
I don’t get it… Surely it hurts the developers more than it hurts Sony of MS?
Almost everyone I know has a massive pile of shame… so if I can’t get DLC whilst still playing the game soon-ish after release I’ll just swap to something on the pile.
Chances of me coming back in a month or two for timed DLC that I’ll have read about on the net by then… Very very slim.
Side tangent regarding platform exclusive deals (apologies for not dragon age topic):
This is where I understand what the Witcher devs are saying when they said the xbone CE extras were the least bad option that mean the game isn’t affected when MS splashes that cash… But I still cancelled my CE order because of it.
Wait, what happened with The Witcher? Is XBone getting exclusive stuffs?
XBone CE had more content than PC and PS4 for the same price.
CD Projekt defended the choice, saying they made sure that the game wasn’t affected, and the pile of money MS gave them for something exclusive was used to add those extras, nothing was taken away from the others.
I applaud them not fucking with the core game despite pile ‘o cash, but since they screwed with the CE I’m not buying it any more. And the CE was the only reason to buy day 1, especially when taking the shitfight of a launch version of the witcher 2 into account, let alone how much extra content they added down the line for both previous games. I’ll buy a digital copy a few months after launch, I guess.
Especially if it wasn’t announced to be timed exclusive DLC before the game was released so people could then choose to buy the version with the first dibs on DLC.
It’s kind of pointless doing it this way, too. Where’s the benefit to Microsoft if people have already chosen which platform to buy it for, bought it, and played it by the time the timed exclusivity is even made mention of?
It gets people using their XBone at a time other consoles have bigger releases than them?
But do Microsoft really care if people are using the consoles or not? They’ve already got the money. Or do you have to have whatever XBone’s equivalent to PS+ is to download DLC?
Good question(s). No idea here.
Well if there a big multiplat releases coming out and you are using your xbone you are likely to get it on xbone rather than PS
Microsoft is more concerned with getting you to buy games than buying consoles. There’s no money is selling consoles, but there is a lot in licensing fees for games. They make money if you buy it on their console, but get nothing if you buy it on the PS4/PC.
But that’s kind of my point. Timed exclusivity is only useful before the game is released so people will buy the multiplatform games on your platform. Everyone has already bought Dragon Age, so announcing that the DLC is a timed exclusive now doesn’t sell them any more games on their platform.
That is weird.
I found out my net is unmetered too! Was really, really pleased! 😀
Man, I’m bummed about the dlc because I bet a headline will spoil something 🙁
Exactly this!
Was happy to be on top of The Evil Within & INQUISITION because I saw quite a few boneheaded headlines & screenshots
@strange wait, the new DA DLC is going to be on XBONE only? BLERGH.
I guess it might make me buy an XBONE and another copy of DA:I…no, I can’t do that, it will only encourage them.
No, pc too, pretty sure. You’re PC aren’t you??
Yes, I am. Okay, I guess I can play it then!
Yeah, as Jimu says it’s PC and XBone first. PS4 later, on an as yet undisclosed date. If I had enough money sitting in my account, I’d be sorely tempted to buy an XBone for it. I have a problem. 😛
Have you seen ant of SAO before?
I’ve seen season one, and enjoyed it. It had a pretty cool premise, and was executed rather well.
(Vague stuff behind spoilerwall – no actual spoilers)
Was a bit disappointed with the second half of the season, though. Some of the content was… questionable, and I didn’t like how some characters were treated by the writers.Started watching Log Horizon recently, which has a similar ‘players trapped in game’ premise, and I’m enjoying that one as well.
Hadn’t seen any before. I watched ten episodes yesterday though. 😛
Interesting to see how I feel about the rest of it then, based on your spoiler. 🙂
Also, I tried watching Dawn of the Seeker.
Turned it off after 20-30 mins, because it was boring and hilariously bad.
I was going to wait a few days to get Netflix, so that I could skip any rollout hiccups. That didn’t happen.
In other news, looks like I can comfortably stream TV shows at 720p. That means the webrip torrents I was using before are basically useless.
Rollout hiccups my ass. I signed on at 12:05am, registered within a minute or two, and was in bed watching Arrested Development on my iPad mini at 12:30am after my wife and I independently went through the catalogue (on seperate profiles, which Stan doesn’t have and I am loving) adding stuff to our lists.
I saw that tweet. That’s part of why I jumped straight on. Everything is working exactly as intended.
Yep, my account was done at 12:02am and I was watching HD two minutes later. No issues at all so far 😀
Is there a show all section on PS4? That’s my only criticism so far and I’m hoping I just missed it! Otherwise I’m completely loving it. Watched two eps of Unbreakable Kimmy Schimdt already and am really impressed at how my net connection handles streaming!
No idea re PS4 stuff, I haven’t been using mine as of yet, just the web and Android app.
Whatever they’re doing is working really well. Definitely local servers (well, we knew that once all the announcements about not counting towards download limits were made) and some damned good compression/codecs.
Now to populate my list with awesome things and rate as many things on there that I’ve already watched. Genuinely curious to see how the recommendation system plays out. Even after doing a handful, it managed to guess a couple of shows/movies that I liked.
Ditto. Signed up at 12:05, was up watching the first ep of FMA: Brotherhood until half-past. I was worried when I saw the anime lineup that it’d all be the dubbed versions – but it even defaulted to Japanese audio with English subs, with the dubbed version as an alternative audio option.
Also, swapping between devices! Started the episode on my PC, and decided I should really go to bed. Fired up netflix on my phone, and continued the episode in 1080p… this is dangerous/amazing. I like the future. 😛
Phwoar… Would you say there’s a decent selection for starting some unwatched anime series?
Ehh… not really. I’ve not really kept up with anime since about 2004 – only wanted to watch FMA cos the manga is one of my absolute favourites, and the original anime ran out of storyline before the manga was finished, and went and did its own thing. Plus, it looks like all of Brotherhood is on there, so I’ll definitely be watching it.
I hear nothing but good things about Gurren Lagan and Kill la Kill, so I’ll probably give them a shot. There are a couple of others iirc, but the total line up is fairly low, even if it’s more than I expected. Perhaps someone more up to date on “teh animes” could chime in with better advice – I’m about a decade out of touch. 😛
Try signing up for AnimeLab – currently free, has a bunch of stuff at high quality.
That anime defaults to Japanese audio with English was a pretty welcome surprise for me as well. Automatically playing the next episode of things is dangerous, though. Makes it more difficult to stop watching!
And yes. I’m kind of sick at the moment and had to rush to the bathroom in the middle of an episode. Seriously considered continuing the episode on my phone. 😛
It starts the next episode immediately? That’s kinda terrifying/awesome… I have enough trouble forcing myself to stop doing stuff and go to sleep. I closed the mobile app at the start of the credits… to think I came so close to losing another half hour of potential sleep… *hides*
Remember ages and ages ago how I mentioned I broke Google at work? That emails sent from somebody else in the office turn up in my “Sent” folder?
Well, that issue is still going on. We’re on the highest level of tech support Gmail has and they still can’t figure out why it is happening 😛
I want a prize!
Maybe a case for Inspector Nob?
@sernobulusGetting support like a gamer, you passed Level 1, 2 and 3, level 4 is usually when the vendor is engaged and if it goes to their experts and even they can’t figure it out, that’s basically beating the final boss 😛
For once I hope there is no New Game+
New Google+? God have mercy
Except that winning feels a lot like losing.
Depends on the impact of the fault really
Has Bloodborne broken street date yet? Game I really want never break 🙁
It’d be nice if The Weekend broke street date to coincide with the Bloodborne release.
@greenius @powalen @gutsoup @piat
Thank you for the hunting of monsters last night. It’s good fun piling in as a team of 4.
4 player is the best way to play. Kinda wish it had voice chat with friends though 😛
We could use steam voice chat if we can all be on steam
That poor, poor desert seltas
Man I hate waiting for stuff to arrive that I’ve ordered off the net. Checking the tracking on my Bloodborne order like every hour. HURRY UP FFS!
For anyone curious, you can compare the offerings of Netflix, Presto and Stan over here. Probably the biggest surprise is that Netflix has a good mix of foreign films. Not that they’re hard to find over here, with SBS and all, but it’s really nice to have them there, ready to go whenever I feel in the mood for Ong Bak or something.
Never seen Ong Bak.
Looks like that’s another movie to queue up.
There’s already too many movies in my backlog, but that’s one I’ve been wanting to watch for a while so I might move it near the top of the list.
They have a TV show comparison as well which is of more interest to me at the moment
Ong Bak is something I need to see.
Have you seen The Protector? That was an awesome movie.
Yeah, that’s a great film, got the 2 disc special edition. Apparently they made a second one too, I’ll have to track down a copy.

Just signed up for Netflix, Woah there’s a lot of stuff on there, don’t think I’m gonna leave the house for a while, other than to go to work. Would be nice if there was a full typed out list of all the content in alphabetical order, oh well.
As I was going over the list with my wife last night she was agonising over how there is far too much stuff she wants to watch and despaired at the inevitability she won’t get through it all.
I suggested we could cancel it if she wanted, and she just said “are you crazy?”
There’s an absolute ton of stuff for kids too, reckon I’ll watch Lego Marvel: Maximum Overload with my son tonight.
Description of Lego Marvel: Maximum Overload on Netflix
“LEGOs” seriously, god that shits me.
I don’t understand how Americans believe that’s even correct. LEGO is an adjective, not a noun. There is no such thing as LEGO by itself. There are LEGO bricks, LEGO people. LEGO movies. There is the LEGO company. But LEGO is not a noun at all. Gah.
I had no idea there were all those LEGO themed shows, the amount of kid stuff really surprised me. I don’t doubt there’s plenty in there I’ll enjoy despite not having kids.
Also, a bunch of Anime. Not a lot, but a few titles I’ve been interested in despite not following anime for about 12 years now. I have no idea what Kill la Kill or Gurren Lagan are about but I hear people praising them constantly.
Yeah, I haven’t really watched anime since Speed Racer, Astroboy and Robotech did their original runs on TV here, seen a few episodes of Crying Freeman about 20 years ago.
I’ll definitely give Kill la Kill a crack.
So you missed Cowboy Bebop and Evangelion? Because you should watch Cowboy Bebop and Evangelion.
*adds Cowboy Bebop and Evangelion to list*
Also Samurai Champloo. @evilmonkey
WATCH KILL LA KILL
SO GOOOD. EXCEPT THE FIRST TWO EPISODES ARE KINDA CRAP, AND THE FOURTH EPISODE WAS MADE ON A BUDGET OF 43 YEN, BUT OTHER THAN THAT, IT’S PERFECT.
Okay, calm yourself, Phlanispo. Calm. Calm… Oh, who am I kidding?
SO GOOD ALL THE ACTION IS AMAZING AND THE PLOT IS SUPER AWESOME AND THE SYMBOLISM AND METAPHORS ARE GREAT AND THE MAIN CHARACTER DOESN’T HAVE ANY PERSONALITY BUT SHE MAKES UP FOR IT BY HAVING COMPLEX MOTIVATIONS AND THE SOUNDTRACK IS AMAZING IT HAS BAGPIPE HEAVY METAL AND GERMAN CLUB SONGS THAT GET STUCK IN YOUR HEAD FOR MONTHS AND DON’T LOSE YOUR WAAAAAYYYY IN YOUR MIIIIIND AT IT LOOKS AMAZING WITH SUPER GRAPHICS AND OLDER-STYLE ANIMATION TECHNIQUES AND THERE’S SO MUCH RED AND WHITE CONTRAST AND THEY FIGHT WITH SCISSORS AND THERE IS A GIRL WHO USES MOZART AND A LOUDSPEAKER TO KILL PEOPLE INSTEAD OF SWORDS AND
I see.
Good.
See Bunny’s post above
Aww… left my headphones at home today. Got subjected to pop at the cafe… never again. *forcefully hums En Livstid I Krig*
“Pop” music definitely ain’t what it used to be, but at least it gives “Weird” Al something to parody.
So Sword Art Online is pretty engaging so far. Damn you Netflix for auto-playing the next episode, I can’t stop watching. Send help! 😛
How far are you into it? Hope you keep enjoying it because I burned out after binge-watching seven episodes in a row.
Same thing happened with me with Log Horizon
I watched five episodes. I find it difficult to burn out on anime. If I’m invested, I love to just mainline the whole thing.
Just wait until you give Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood a look.
I’m already up to episode 3… out of 64.
Just 24 hours left…. D:
If I never saw the original FMA would following Brotherhood be a problem at all? I’m always confused when they have multiple series under one brand. It’s which I never got into .hack//etc. – had no idea where to start.
You shouldn’t have any problem. The original FMA went off on its own at a certain point, when its progress outstripped that of the manga. Brotherhood is essentially an adaptation of the manga’s completed storyline, as far as I’m aware, and should be more or less self-contained.
Cool, thanks.
I’ve seen the original Full Metal Alchemist so I put that on my list, but I’d rather watch some completely new-to-me stuff first. And woah…that’s a lot of episodes!
Oh yeah, that autoplay thing is dangerous. I was going to watch Unbreakable Kimmy Schimdt with my sister and somehow have watched four episodes without her. 😛
OH GOD DON’T GO TOO FAR
THAT’S A DARKNESS NO SANE MORTAL SHOULD DELVE INTO
Aw man, Netflix has auto-play?
I always fall asleep part way through something then wake up in the middle of the night to find that I’d “watched” 5 extra episodes 😛
You can turn it off.
I regret choosing to watch Focus instead of Chappie at the cinema. Now, unless I watch it today, Chappie is only on after 9 pm. Unfortunately, I have basketball tonight and that clashes with the only remaining screenings not after 9 pm. ARGH!
Look at all this Netflix that I do not care about.
Don’t understand the appeal, don’t wanna understand the appeal, but I’m glad you guys are liking it.
I didn’t get the appeal until I got Spotify for music.
Now I get the guilts when I download shows/movies. Knowing I can pay a $12 a month and consume as much content as I want makes me feel sooooo much better.
Why don’t you want to ‘understand’ the appeal? You prefer watching free-to-air or on disc?
I like owning things.
Netflix, while I’m not complaining, feels like glorified renting.
I like the feel of a DVD, the beauty of the cover art, and the way they look all lined up on a shelf! 😀
I totally agree with “owning” things though I’d be happy to do so digitally because that’s theoretically unlimited while I have finite DVD shelf space. Netflix/Stan is glorified renting and not a permanent solution since licensing agreements expire all the time. Stuff comes and goes on a month to month basis, but I’m happy to pay $12/month (or $22 when you count my Stan subscription in the bargain) to be able to watch shows that I like but don’t find it necessary to actually own right now.
Hmmm… I do like owning things… hence why I buy my books on Kindle and then often buy the paperback copies despite not having anywhere to really put them.
However… consumption of audio visual content is going digital and it’s only going to get faster. Physical media isn’t going anywhere soon, but in 10 years you’ll be able to get content cheaper and faster ‘buying’ it online and having it held in a digital locker type arrangement (similar to what they’ve tried with Ultraviolet now) and you’ll be able to pull it down to any device at any time.
Also… We’re kinda there already… All the games we buy now (even physical copies) are just licenses to use the content on our own machines. We own the medium of delievery (the disc) but not the content (the game).
I think you’re missing what I’m saying.
I like having the physical copies.
The day gaming goes all digital is the day I stop gaming.
If I had unlimited shelf space I’d agree with you. I have a lot of games and I love seeing them all neat and tidy in alphabetical order and reminiscing etc. But I’ve no more room for shelves. I’ve already installed a set of shelves in my apartment in a place where realistically there wasn’t room for shelves so I had somewhere to put my games and free up room for all the blu rays I’ve been buying from JB’s awesome sales lately. The next step is to get rid of games I’m sure I won’t ever play to make room for new ones. After that? I hope I’m rich enough to have an entire room set aside like the AVGN’s basement.
I can see where you’re coming from, I like owning things and having a collection too (I’ve got a 2m x 2m bookcase filled with DVDs and games and then some), but the way I see it is Netflix will give me a chance to “trial” watch shows I would normally not want to take the chance on by buying a physical copy, if I like it I’ll buy it, if not then I’ve saved myself the money.
Besides, there’s stuff on there (documentaries and stand-up comedy especially) that I never even knew existed.
I’m with you there. Except in a couple of cases:
1) I’m not sure if I’ll like something, so I would watch a couple of episodes first before buying
2) There’s way too much to make buying it sane (eg Naruto, where it would cost well over a grand to purchase it all, while I can watch it free on AnimeLab)
Welp Just signed up for Netflix, Anton will get home to find me passed out on the couch from TV overload when he comes home from ACT tomorrow.
I was marathoning Breaking Bad for the last few days. Now I’ve started on Orphan Black. This cannot possibly end well.
I think we should play online boardgames tonight
That sounds like a non-terrible idea. Maybe get some people together and play Dead of Winter on Tabletop Sim?
That could be too long for me, I have 8am starts this week. What else is on there?
Practically everything. If it’s any consolation, I’m waking up at 5:30am these days.
I went to bed at 12 last night and woke up at 6am today I will be in bed by 10 tonight (I hope)
Orphan Black is pretty good, except for the parts where it disappears so far up it’s own ass towards the end of season 1 for a couple of episodes.
Then it becomes good again.
It’s okay, I’ve watched more than enough shows that disappear up their own ass for a while. I can watch one more.
Good, because the show is the master of “we need this character to suddenly have this skill to advance the story”
Luckily the first couple of episodes give plenty of warning on that bit.
Signed up like the rest of you, will have a play when I get home later tonight. Timesink here we come!
Mindless consumer get?
Every time a mindless consumption is made, a Tyler Durden loses it’s wings.
eh, fuck fight club.
Boooooooo
It’s a lesser Fincher, and far, far too many people took it all too seriously.
Booooooooooooo
Boo you, jimu.
Boo YOU.
DON’T YOU BOO MY JIMU @redartifice I SWEAR TO GOD I WILL CUT YOU!!! >:O
No way, I hold my tongue when you lot go on about all those games/movies/tv shows/books/music I think is/are lame.
Boo you.
I stand by my criticism.
I went to bed at 12 last night and woke up at 6am today I will be in bed by 10 tonight (I hope)
ReplyFail!
Something something Netflix.
[/trying to fit in]
I’ve heard of Netflix!
BLOOOOOOOOODBOORRRRRRRRRRRRRNE
*high five* This guy is like me!
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVELOORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRN
TOMORROW IS THE DAY. TOMORROW. IT COMES OUT TOMORROW.
Serrels is Twitching the game right now. http://www.twitch.tv/markserrels
Reviews are starting to drop. Rather than post a whole bunch of links, here’s Metacritic, which provides links for me. http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-4/bloodborne
Hype is now reaching dangerous levels.
Edit: damn autocorrect. Haven’t trained it to replace every word with Bloodborne yet…
Tonight!
If you hear a loud pop, that’s @shane crossing the Hype Overload Threshold. 🙂
My hype is already at Mach 11. You would have heard the sonic boom some months ago. It caused a tsunami on the other side of the world.
The Hype level……its…over 9000 !!!
Jim Sterling gave it a 10/10.
I frequently find myself agreeing with his reviews, and hence am becoming unreasonably hyped right now.
Bleh, got sick of my stupid secondary monitor whiting out on high-black screens or even just when it doesn’t want to wake up properly, so disconnected it and put my old one back on.
Going from 27″ to 23″, everything is too small. Also the colours on this thing are bad.
I’m a peasant with a 19″ 1440 x 900 at home.
Eww. I was using an LCD with 1280×1024 some 15 odd years ago, anything less than that is unusable to me. Death to the 1366×768 screen 😛
My main one is a 22″ 1680×1050 screen. I reckon that’s pretty much the sweet spot in terms of pixel size. Although I guess distance plays a role in it. That one I’ve got about 88cm from eyes to screen, while the secondary is 104cm away. A little too small to be comfortable. 27″ at 1920×1080 was ok at that distance.
Yeah, I use a 24″ 1920 x 1080 at work… I should really look at upgrading the home one… it’s also about 10 years old at this point…
That’s a some-other-time problem.
For the uninitiated, I’m sitting here watching Bloodborne on Twitch and have no idea why the player character has these two ring like things hanging off his body.
Can somebody explain what these things are? I feel like they are overalls but something about it is annoying me.
Two large hanging rings? Now I’m imagining a Bloodborne character with large hoop earrings acting all sassy-like.
Two rings to rule them all?
Assuming it’s the same thing as what Serrels had earlier, then yeah, I think they’re overalls.
@liondrive lol
Elite content…
Expedition over, got back to inhabited space in my Type-6 late last night.
$6.5 million credits worth of exploration data and many many systems with my grubby mitts on them. The sweetest was an unexplored system only 5 jumps from inhabited space with an Earth-like – most systems with 150LY or so of inhabited space are surveyed already! Bonuses galore.
Now I have upgraded to an Asp, tooled up for bounty hunting with some beam lasers and hefty shields while I make enough money (and rank up my combat from Mostly Harmless) to rig the Asp for maximum range and head back out. Still Pathfinder rank though. First bounty hunt I scored a Python for 80kcr and an Anaconda for 120kcr which I only got a couple of shots on before it blew. Easy money lurking around mining areas with big guns and friendly security forces…
The one thing that bugs me about exploration is that 20ly limit on where you can sell your data. Namely in that if I’m in an area and some of the systems around me don’t have system map data, I’ll go out there and scan them. But then I can’t just sell that data to my home system, I have to jump away to some random place and sell it there instead. And I *need* to sell it, because if I don’t then once I die my nav systems won’t have the data for those places any more. Kinda dumb.
20LY? That’s 2/3 of a jump… 😉
It’s a couple of jumps beyond whichever system is the last one (of the cluster you scanned) in whatever direction you’re heading to get away from them 😛 And unless you can remember all the ones you did there isn’t really any way to know which one that is. So pretty much need to pick some random system ~50ly away to go to. And that’s a whole bunch of time that could be better spent pounding out a few more missions instead.
Hehehe sorry. I agree with you, I was just gloating about my GIANT jump range.
I tend to stop in stations pretty frequently on within-civilisation exploration loops as I’m trading a bit and cashing in bounties too, so I’ve rarely got more than a couple of systems’ worth of data to cash in. Annoying when you lose a large batch, for sure. That happened once when I was mugged by an Anaconda; I lost around $300kcr worth. 🙁
MH4 people, just wanted to ask what weapon is everyone using? I’m using a hammer because I like to smash things. Also I’m relatively early in the game so I’m not really caring which weapon I use too much.
Switch Axe because I like saying to monsters “Let me AXE you a question”
Insect Glaive because.
Charge blade because it’s better than whatever those other guys said.
Light Bowgun. I want to hunt monsters, but not be hit by them, y’know? or be near them, really. At all.
I’ve a ton of backups, though. Hunting Horn, Charge Blade, Insect glaive. All great stuff.
Dual Blades myself, but if you like the hammer and feel like you’re competent with it, stick with it, it’s an excellent weapon class and is very underplayed (mostly because it has a high skill cap).
Though if you find yourself not being able to hit monsters in the face constantly reliably it loses a lot of its potential, as it’s main benefit is the stun damage and that only counts if you’re hitting them in the head.
I can’t master the hammer personally as the play style is very unique compared to slicing weapons and I can’t reliably survive in the head zones.
Insect Glaive ’cause pole vaulting is awesome, saved me so many times. Giant monster swinging it’s tail at you? Pole vault. Monster spitting projectiles? Pole Vault. Wanna ride a monster but there’s no elevated ground? Pole Vault. Want to get up a tiny ledge 0.3 seconds faster than climbing? Pole vault! Tired of walking everywhere like a chump and wanna zazz things up? Pole vault!
Admittedly though I have done more than my share of vaulting straight into the path of incoming attacks, you feel dumb because you can see it coming and can’t do anything :P.
How are you enjoying it so far? This is my first MH and I’ve sunk ungodly amounts of time into it.
I decided to swap from a blademaster to a gunner in this iteration of Monster Hunter.
Because a friend is still using heavy bowgun, I went with the bow instead, and am enjoying immensely.
I can’t believe I’m saying this but I think I’m going to end up signing up for Netflix…. *runs away in shame*
Oh piracy we’ve had a good run you and I.
If you like watching shows as they come out you’ll be back
Lol between gym; a social life; work; wow; a relationship; and keeping up to speed with news and music I have little time to watch things as they come out =P So I doubt I’ll be turning back ^^
Edit: Come play HotS!!!
I don’t have time for things, let’s play a MOBA. Lol
WoW and MobA are interchangeable =P
Ooh, postal arrival.
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y260/Gooky/Purchase150324.jpg
FINALLY!
@greenius
Silly gooky, that won’t work on your computer.
They use CD-ROMs and DVDs.
Your computer maybe 😛
WHAT IS THAT I DON’T UNDERSTAND OLD PEOPLE TECHNOLOGY
Hey, Greenius! 😀
All I’ve been watching is Top Gear and Full Metal Alchemist…
Where has Netflix been all my life?
I’ve watched eight episodes of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and one Arrested Development. I’m slightly ashamed at this binge watch. 😀
I’mma watch Captain America when I get home.
I’ve been making a note of movies I want to watch. Will rewatch Weekend and Juno soon, I think. And Disney’s The Princess and the Frog!
The HostAnd Black Swan…
*cough*
I want to share my favourite gag from Unbreakable with you but don’t want to spoil it if you haven’t watched that episode yet.
(Do not take this as permission to marathon the rest of the episodes tonight :P)
I think it’s likely to happen, though Life is Strange might get in the way! 😀
Stop watching Kimmy Schmidt! :’O
You said you were supposed to watch it with your sister! :’O
Haha! It was never agreed upon. Just assumed, cause we used to watch 30 Rock together and this is Tina Fey’s new show. But… Netflix…
DON’T JUDGE ME! 😛
I usually do that with my wife, we’ll start watching something together, she’ll watch maybe two episodes and go to bed, then I’ll stay up and watch another four.
We’re on Sons Of Anarchy now, we’re three episodes in and I’m trying really really hard to not watch any more until we can both sit down together. Don’t know how long that’ll last though.
Oh, I won’t judge you (much).
God and your sister however…
😛
He never said watch it for the first time!
Is it FMA, or FMA:Brotherhood?
Haven’t seen original series, but Brotherhood is really enjoyable.
THANKS DANIEL, YOU DA MAN!
First you tell me Orangey is airing at the same time as the US (would that mean we get it slightly earlier because of time differences? :o), then you say Netflikky goes super HD after a while AND then you made me check out Kimmy Schmidt! 4 eps in already 😀
You’re welcome, Joel!
Hey @shane, just received my Fedora Messenger Skin code in my email, you get yours?
Huh…?!
No…
Maybe. I dunno. *panics*
If you don’t get it by the time the game comes just let them know, I’m sure they’ll be quick to provide you with one.
Just checked my work email, and there it was \o/
Who here was working in web design and making websites?
Do they also stare at lots of pictures of primary school children?
Was it @ynefel?
Isn’t it @powalen?
Is it both?
Nef does support, IIRC.
Nef is a support bunny. *hops away*
Not me, sorry – think it might’ve been Pow. Or Pants?
All good. I may ask again on the twitters
Possibly me Scree although it depends on what the questionis
I need someone to help with design of a website
Don’t think anyone’s posted it yet, but I just found out that apparently Game Of Thrones: Episode 3 comes out tomorrow, that’s right TOMORROW!
Better knock it out first thing in the morning in case Bloodborne arrives tomorrow (got the feeling it won’t somehow).
http://www.playstationtrophies.org/news/news-15806-Game-of-Thrones-Episode-3-Launches-This-Week.html
I posted that it was coming out this week (stop stealing my news >:( ), but not the specific date.
PS: That’s tomorrow EU time, I believe. Probably won’t drop for us until later tomorrow evening.
Sorry man, I thought you posted that it was out this week, but I decided to post this because of the specific date.
And by the way it’s up, downloading now.
Just wanted to say sorry. I think I was trying to riff on the whole people reposting news thing, but ended up just sounding like a dick. So… sorry.
That’s cool man, was pretty sure you were just mucking around.
Decisions decisions, games or Netflix.
So far I watched that Lego Marvel thing with my son, then he watched All Hail King Julien, then he went to bed and me and the missus watched Departures (pretty good show about two Canadians that take a year off to travel the world).
Screw it, I think I’ll keep going with Netflix, the question is though what to watch.
Kimmy!
Oooh, they’ve got Hellboy, never seen it, I’ma watch that.
Top Gear.
I know it’s just urban legend nonsense, obviously, but I was just wondering if anyone had actually ever done the whole “Bloody Mary” thing?
Any funny stories or anything?
I know a girl who had her head cut clean off when she whispered “bloody mary” three times in the bathroom mirror at school. First the lights flickered, then they went out… and then we weren’t allowed back in the school for a long time. There were ambulances and everything. I swear it’s true.
I heard it from a friend of a friend of mine…
Make sure to drink a Bloody Mary while doing Bloody Mary to look #Fabulous.
Oh man, can’t wait to play Bloodborne.
*looks at schedule*
…after I finish uni
*looks further down schedule*
…after work
*looks even further down schedule*
…after uni study, assignments
*looks at bottom of schedule*
…the human body doesn’t need to eat or sleep to function right?
How is uni going anyway?
Getting used to the swing of things?
Enjoying your course?
HIGH HOPES FOR THE FUTURE?!
You’ve been suspiciously quiet on the whole uni front 😛
Meh, nothing really interesting to report on the uni front. All I can really comment on is that there are tonne of people straight out of school that have no idea how the real world works. =P
Also, being a mature aged student definitely gives me a different perspective.
I was going to go to a WAFL (state league Aussie Rules) game at Subiaco Oval last Saturday. I’m trying to get over my fears of going to AFL games by watching lower leagues. Initially I was going to slowly adjust by watching suburban games, but when I saw that the first WAFL game would be at the same oval as proper AFL games, I decided to skip a step and go straight to a big stadium.
On Friday after TAFE, I caught the train in and had a look at the stadium and the general Subiaco area, as a way to familarise myself. I also wanted to see how public transport would work. Pretty good, as the stadium is less than one hundred metres from a train station.
I spent Saturday steeling myself for it. The biggest concern was that the game was at 7pm, and catching public transport at 10:30pm is a scary thought. Eventually nerves took over and I didn’t go. Kind of bummed out about it. I suppose a big thing that stopped me going outside of the night thing was that I didn’t care bout the actual game that much, I was more interested in seeing if I could get there and back and seeing how far away seats were from toilets and food and all that.
I guess if I have to get over this fear, I need to start from the bottom this time, and attend a few games in suburbs.
Happy Bloodborne day everyone.
If anyone wants Bloodborne and hasn’t yet secured a copy Target have got it advertised in their latest catalogue for $69. Catalogue doesn’t start till tomorrow though, so not sure if that price will apply today.
They’ve also got Big Hero 6 on DVD for $15, reckon I might snag a copy so I can finally watch it.
Big hero 6 is an awesome movie.
My other half borrowed it from a friend we watched it and wished we saw it at the movies.
Just washed my hair ready for Bloodborne Day! Well, actually parent/teacher interview day. But hey, at least I’ll be all clean and non-stinky for the nice people in EB this morning. 😛
Made a bad decision in Game Of Thrones: Episode 2, but I think I just redeemed myself and made it right.
In episode 2 when Cotter stole Finn’s knife I said nothing, just had a talk with Finn and I think he’s forgiven me.I haven’t played GoT yet so I don’t know why I clicked your spoiler, but
if Finn is anything like Kenny in the Walking Dead he’ll be buddy-buddy with you for the next two episodes then out if the blue in episode five he’ll be all like “GRAAARGH YOU’RE ALWAYS AGAINST ME YOU SON OF A BITCH”.Ha! Yeah, more than likely.
It’s a Telltale game. How likely do you think it is that any decision is redeemable? 😛
http://www.kotaku.com.au/2015/03/from-software-is-working-on-a-patch-to-fix-bloodborne-loading-times/
Beware fellow Bloodborners, apparently the load times are pretty bad, and in a game where you WILL DIE A LOT that’s going to really really suck balls. Getting sick of games being released with issues, and for a game like this I would consider it a pretty major one. I’m glad they’re making a patch, but this is something they would’ve known about and could’ve fixed before release.
Hopefully without sounding like too much of a fanboy, I can understand that things like load times would be addressed at a lower priority than game breaking or gameplay affecting issues.
I would have preferred longer load times in dark souls 2 over the feeling that about 1 in every 100 shots that looked and felt clearly like a hit on an enemy failed to register…
True, still it’s gonna be very frustrating putting up with long load times every time you die.
http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2015/03/netflix-us-has-six-times-as-much-content-as-netflix-australia/
Why do people keep banging on about this? So fucking what if they have more, how long has Netflix been around over there? We only just got Netflix in this country and people are already complaining that it’s “gimped”. I would understand if it launched both here and there around the same time, but come on we only just got it and from what I’ve seen there’s more than enough content to keep us all happy for a fair while, and I’m sure they’ll expand the content as time goes on.
Because even though a person is only really capable of watching one show at a time apparently having 13,000 things is better than having 2,000 things.
I get that it’s about choice and there is specific content I’d like to see on the local Netflix that we don’t have yet, but there is A METRIC FUCKTON OF OTHER STUFF TO WATCH WHILE I WAIT.
BLOOOOODDBOORNNNE
also I bought like 4 nerf guns because I am an adult
What Nerf’s did you buy?
1 x Zombie Strike Slingfire (at a whopping 90% off)
2 x N-Strike Demolisher 2-in-1 blaster (50% off each)
1 x Rebelle Secret Shot Blaster (60%)
You might imagine why I spontaneously decided to spend a bit of money on these.
Not at all, Nerf is always a valid purchase.
1. opinions vary on the Slingfire ranging from poor to alright
2. Demolisher is good, personally I’m not fond of the missile launcher, which is why I got a Stryfe instead (also that was before the demolisher was out)
3. Secret Shot is alright, same performance as any other muzzle-loader, the gimmick looks silly but works, so yeah (it also reminds me of a FMG-9 Machine pistol)
I still have about 3 nerf guns, but I’d need to buy new bullets because all the old bullets got stepped on.
So, Netflix first impressions:
– Thought the quality was off at first, then it buffered and OH GODS SO HIGH DEF
– Danger 5 is funny as ever. Good to see something funded by the SA film commission as well
– Ran smooth as glass on three different devices
– pausing on one screen then hitting play on another is a neat trick
– Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt looks fun, watched the pilot
– Finally on the Vikings train, the pilot at least was beautifully shot.
Yeah, I’m pretty impressed with it so far.
Only seen bits and pieces of Danger 5, but it looks like it’d be something I’d enjoy. Had Vikings Season 1 on DVD for a few weeks now, but haven’t got around to watching it yet. Not real sure about Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, but I’ll give it a go eventually.
Danger 5 is insane. If you want a taste of the sort of thing it does, you need to watch Italian Spiderman, which they shot first all over Flinders Uni.
Or watch the “pilot” that’s on Youtube. It’s not really a pilot, hence the quote marks.
Everyone should watch Italian Spiderman just because though.
*punch*
Respect women!
I started watching Bloodline last night. It seems like a pretty cool guy.
I started watching Brooklyn 99. Funny show, pretty silly but good fun.
I like Brooklyn 99 – it’s got a great cast
The only thing missing is something light and familiar that I can just put on in the background and fall asleep to. That’s oddly specific to me though.
Arrested Developement? That is assuming you have already watched all of it.
I have, several times. It’s also a show I tend to pay some attention to. Not the perfect show for this, even if it is amazing in pretty much every other way.
Freaking BBLLLLLLOOOOOOODDDDDDDBBBBOOORRNNNNN….. WHAT!? WHAT DO YOU MEAN I HAVE TO WANT TWO WEEKS!?
Oh, how tragic, Mr I’m in Japan.
*world’s smallest
violinbell plays sad melody*Can someone please stop me from having ideas? I’m stretched thin as it is!
just write them down so when you have time you don’t forget!
It’s driving me bonkers slowly. I have enough to do already =(
Maybe you should try and have loads more ideas all at once, then you’ll go totally mad. Once you’re totally mad, you won’t mind how much stuff you can’t get done because you’ll be too mad to care
Winning strategy.
When I’m committed, I won’t be able to do anything
Ahh but you’ll be too mad to care that you won’t be able to. You’ll be happy dribbling in the corner and giggling at the imaginary bunnies
So the Bloodborne launch event was pretty fun last night! I won’t go into it too much because I think Mark has a big post going up about it, but I enjoyed it. Got some free food and played a bunch of the game.
Everybody was talking about how different the combat feels to Dark Souls. But it felt about the same to me. I guess because I never used a shield? Took a lot of getting used to after so much Monster Hunter though. Kept hitting triangle to do a draw-attack, which would instead play the healing animation in front of a big enemy 😛
The clothes options were really cool as well. Less of a focus on bulky knight armour is always a plus for me. I can tell it’s going to become #FashionBorne basically straight away 😛
Now all I need is a PS4…
EDIT: Oh yeah, and the loading times are unfortunately pretty killer. Especially when you’re standing up at a demo booth 😛 It’s just a logo on a screen as well, no tips or anything to read. Hopefully they can improve that with this patch that’s coming!
To the video game emporium!
Yeah the combat doesn’t look that much different to me from DS2 because I played dual wield the whole way through. Probably my biggest plus for Bloodborne is they got rid of shields, means they can’t have designed any enemies to be preferential to shields. Just waiting on the 2.7gb patch now 🙁
Wait, there’s another Astro Boy reboot. Didn’t they just reboot the damn thing!?
Give me the original any day.
Bloodborne Nightmare edition get, pretty glad I went for this overpriced bundle, the extras are pretty cool. The bell is actually quite large and substantial in weight which is nice, I expected a tiny plasticy piece of crap, the quill looks really cool but the ink is wax sealed and I don’t want to open it lol.
I also have a top hat and fedora skin code for the messengers, I use a US account so can’t claim them, so if anyone got a US code or something and wants to trade let me know. Else I’ll just give them to someone at a later point
Woooo! Nightmare edition!
5 hours until I get mine.
It’s so hard :'( I wouldn’t recommend going waste of skin even of you’re an experienced souls player, I think I’m going to restart
Is waste of skin the naked, useless starting class?
That’s gotta be my choice if that’s the case. It’s tradition at this point since I first started Demon’s Souls with the loincloth clad barbarian because I didn’t know any better.
It’s not quite the same, it’s closer to being pyromancer in DS1
OK. I need to find the most useless class tonight then.
It still is the most useless lol there’s just not starting hear choice, just starting level and stats, which is waste of skin.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/celebritynews/11493270/Jeremy-Clarkson-to-be-sacked-by-the-BBC.html
I’m so conflicted by this.
It was absolutely the right choice to sack Clarkson but at the same time Top Gear works because of the chemistry between the presenters (just look at every other iteration of Top Gear from around the world). With May and Hammond’s contracts pretty much expired now, it’ll be interesting to see if they return. I imagine the leverage they have now over negotiating new contracts will be huge.
I think at this stage it was inevitable… I agree that the show won’t be the same though, even with the rumoured replacement of Chris Evans I doubt it can be as good and as entertaining without Clarkson, Hammond and May bouncing off each other… And yeah I do believe it’s the right decision too
Got to feel bad for Oisin Tymon as well. People are going to hate him now.
Pretty much, it’s not enough that he got abused by Clarkson apparently
The show peaked a few years ago, so it’s not the worst thing in the world that it’s going to end (at least in this format).
As for sacking Clarkson, I’m so glad the BBC had the guts to go ahead with this. That man represents a huge amount of value to them. To say that not allowing his behaviour is worth more to them than keeping that money train rolling says a lot about the network.
Absolutely. It was really a lose/lose for them.
Sack him and potentially (probably) kill Top Gear.
Don’t sack him and let him know he’s untouchable.
I still found the show enjoyable, even if it did peak a few years ago.
I have a question, I was reading about the Jaws of Hakkon DLC online and i want to confirm the cost of the US version to that of the AU version, i was reading online last night that it was 15 on the reddit forum from someone who has played it before the release. I realise that perhaps they were guesstimating the price they thought it might be? But i just want to double check.
Hey Mark, I was just checking the Bioware forum and according to other people they are paying 14.99 for a digital copy, when Aussie’s are being asked to pay 24.99 for a digital copy. I do not see why the need to pay extra for something i am downloading, are you able to ask them what is up with that? It feels like excessive price gouging.
Not going to work today cos I feel rotten. Must have looked like a comedy of errors from an outside perspective. Woke up at 3am to go to the toilet, and as I turned off the light to head back to bed, it must have semi-tripped the circuit breaker. Didn’t turn everything off, but must have caused enough disruption to reset all my stuff.. which means my alarm didn’t go off. Woke up half an hour later than expected, but no huge drama. Still enough time to get ready and go to work. So I showered, dried off and start to get dressed. Shirt was all twisted as I tried to put it on, so my head got stuck, and as I was trying to untwist it, suddenly felt that spew feeling.. before I had a chance to react, up it came. All over the inside of my shirt.. all over my face.. all through my hair.. all down my front 😐 Back in the shower! Cleaned and dried, I go downstairs to get my phone to message my team leader to let him know I’ll be a bit late, but half way through typing it, I remembered he’s not there this week. Go to message colleague to get the number of the person we need to report to this week, and phone goes in to spaz mode, and wont type anything despite registering my key presses. While waiting for it to recover, I get that feeling again. Thankfully this time it wasn’t so sudden. Got it all out, but felt twice as bad after. Phone finally behaving itself, so message colleague, but he doesn’t have the number. Only in an email we were sent. Rush downstairs, log in to web access mail and find the number, and uh-oh! That feeling again! By then it was about 15 mins before my shift was due to start, and what I thought might just be a quick “get out of me and I’ll be on my way” kind of sick, has left me shaking with cold sweats and feelings like I’ve been kicked in the guts. Eventually got the message out to say I wont be in, about 5 mins before my shift started. Thankfully another colleague also starts at same time as me this week, so I message him to pass the word around as well, and lucky for me, he was there today, as he’s been away sick the past 2 days. He acknowledged, and apologized profusely in case he gave me what he had! Don’t think our symptoms were quite the same, but amusing none the less! A couple of hours, spews and plenty of dry heaving later, I feel confident enough to walk more than 5 paces from the toilet. Time to hydrate myself and try to keep it down!
So… how was your morning?!
Goddamn! Hope you feel better soon.
Cheers man. Had a few glasses of water, which promptly made their way out of me again, but looks like I might be keeping this one down at last. Just small sips every now and then so I don’t overburden my already churning guts. Still feel a little weak and shaky, but I reckon I’ll be ok for work tomorrow at least!
Try sucking on ice cubes instead of drinking.
I had a pretty similar thing a couple of weeks ago. Seems to be a bug doing the rounds, hopefully it will clear in 24hours. Worst part for me was I got it on the same day as the Sydney guys came up to Brisbane.
You could at least change your name to Unwelbot…
THE STRANGE: THE SERIES

Sorry guys, looks like I’m going to be working late and then Cleaning up the house so I don’t get murdered when anton gets home.
Or if you’d rather, Johannes got teleported into a dimension where he is having to fight with a demon (possibly Victors Mum, it sure is ugly enough) @beeawwb
Is Viktor. No C. Your mum is the C. There, I said that.
I only ask that someone steals everything for my research.
Fair warning, whatever I steal is unlikely to be of any use to anyone for any reason.
I just did a 40 minute interview for a crowdfunding podcast about the journey from All The King’s Men to Undad. I’m now all jittery and exhausted and kicking myself over all my little mistakes. I don’t know how @dkzeitgeist does it every week; dude must have balls of steel.
Podcast should be coming out next week.
Well I wouldn’t recommend asking Dan. Zeitgeist is much to classy a show to talk about something like balls
When you’re on my level of narcissism any excuse to listen to yourself talk is just gravy.
Man I’m sick of trying to maintain alliances in Telltale Games (specifically Game Of Thrones at the moment) only to have it blow up in my face later on. Think from now on I’ll just go the lone wolf route and fuck everyone else.
So, I played Star Wars FFG RPG last night and I’m now dead. I’ll spoiler it for length for those who aren’t quite as interested.
I was a Gran Bounty Hunter Gadgeteer that had teamed up with the rebellion after falling afoul of the Empire and we were assaulting an Imperial facility to uncover some intelligence about a supposed superweapon. We actually crack the facility pretty quickly and get in and out without setting off too many alarms aside from when we had to hack the central computer. We had gotten the launch codes for an Imperial shuttle as our escape route and we were hightailing it out of the facility with our ill-begotten intelligence (turns out it was the locations and information from a number of Force holocrons). We get to the landing pad and get ambushed by a squad of Stormtroopers and a heavy blaster cannon. I had the biggest gun (a heavy blaster rifle) so I tried to take out the cannon but I only really succeeded in attracting everyone’s attention. One salvo later, my Gran was missing an arm after suffering a nasty critical hit. Everyone else in the team (Sullustan Ace Pilot, Human Hired Gun Marauder, and a Droid Diplomat Ambassador) were taking out the rest of the Stormtroopers so I sprinted straight towards the blaster cannon with the intention of punching the trooper in the face. I couldn’t get close enough to punch him but I could fire my heavy blaster rifle at point blank range although I had setback dice due to the missing arm thing. I was rolling two yellow dice versus one purple difficulty and two black setback. And I missed. And I was standing directly in front of the blaster cannon.
Fortunately, the blaster cannon didn’t killed me outright and simply scored a hard hit against my body. The other three Stormtroopers that were around him however, yeah. I was critically hit three times on top of the two times that I had already suffered critical damage. I was losing chunks out of me with those critical hits and my wounds exceeded my threshold and knocked me out. I thought I was okay, but then we all remembered that when a character exceeds their wound threshold they are automatically critically hit again. The GM was rolling a critical hit at a +50 and would kill me on any result of 91 or higher. And of course, he rolled a 100.
I’m actually not sad about the way my character died. He drew a lot of fire and saved his comrades from being shot to pieces and the GM commented that last night’s session was the first time the group had actually functioned as a proper Rebel military unit. It was pretty funny at the end of it all when everyone else basically started looting my corpse for goodies (and I had a few nice things that I had picked up).
My new character is likely to be a Force Sensitive/Emergent schmuck Rebel Alliance Recruit. The GM expressed a preference for someone to have Force powers so we can make use of the Force and Destiny rulebook when it comes out. So yeah, that’s going to be a thing. Think I might model the character as a sort of rookie Rahm Kota type of person.
I’m pretty keen to play this, that sounds great. @negativezero?
Once you wrap your head around the dice system, it really flows quite smoothly. Our Marauder has kitted herself out as a super melee fighter and was rolling four yellow dice (I can’t remember the actual term but they represent specialisation I believe) every time she attacked with her vibrosword. It was a very rare occurrence when she missed an attack and she tended to critically hit on most strikes. So yeah, there is a lot of potential for unique characters and cool stories.
I so want my droid to be a melee fighter now, with vibroblades in my arm parts, that’d be sick! 😀
Some time after I’m back from Japan. I was going to tun a quick intro campaign for local friends so I could try it out but they bailed last minute.
No updates to the tracking of my copy of Bloodborne, got the feeling it’s not going to come today. They should have sent them out Thursday or Friday last week.
Should’ve just paid the extra 10 bucks and got it from EB.
Yeah I never trust postage for new releases I want to play on day of release, digital or brick and mortar are the only reliable option for it, especially when it’s Australia Post
I’ve figured out how netflix gets people to subscribe – I’ve already got more in my ‘to watch when I get time’ list than I foresee having time for in the next few months… Especially if I keep putting certain eps off… I saw the title for episode 4 of FMA this morning and, having a pretty good idea of which story arc it contained, decided to leave it until I wasn’t going to break down and cry. Shou Tucker’s story always hits me hard…
Also, after being told by EB that Bloodborne had shipped on Monday evening, and watching it sit as “Shipping information received” for the last day and a bit, it’s finally actually en route to my house! I won’t be there to receive it… but I can pick it up tomorrow! Woot!
Guys:
I had the popcorn chocolate. Holy shit is it ever good. I brought some to a bar I went to (ain’t no party till I get there, right?), and everyone who had it later texted me for details about it. Best.
Also, I love you Netflix, I already love you so much.
I love Netflix so much too. And Life is Strange. And I assume I probably like popcorn chocolate. It’s yet to be determined.
That Lindt Popcorn chocolate is awesome. All Lindt chocolate is awesome, except for the 85%/90% stuff, which is a bit too dark for my liking.
It is the best new chocolate I’ve had in so long. I bought the block to the bar, but then last night at Woolworths I found the little strips (like, I guess it’s an individual bar, but I also think the blocks are individual… ) and it was on sale and I was well pleased.
Have you tried the salted caramel brownie one? Oof, Lindt Hello is on point.
Netflix is the best & worst thing. Started watching Brooklyn 9-9 and next thing I know I’m up to episode 7. Stupid “play next episode” feature. *shakes fist angrily in random direction*
These are my weekend plans!
So apparently it takes about 3 months of sewage backing up and garbage piling up for a town of 2,000 people to all die.
Just, uh, FYI.
WHAT
Sure that’s a reply, okay. Yeah. Sure.
I mean, I know most of what I say is crap but this …
*sniff*
I need to be alone.
*runs off crying*
Just don’t do it in my city. Chances are your tears are more hygienic than anything in my water system.
I did the whole “build drinking water pump next to the sewerage pump” in one of my cities. It didn’t work out too well for 95% of my population.
Look, if it’s good enough for Bear Grylls, it’s good enough for the rest of you.
Some people look at it as a disaster I look at it as those 5% of people that survived have come out stronger then before.
I’m a convert already after less than 24 hours… I also appreciate their “fuck you Australian government, write your laws properly and then we’ll think about paying GST” stance. This sort of attitude also means that you can just mask your IP and ‘travel’ to the US with your AU account to watch all the US content.
Customers first. As it should be.
Am I the only person who wants to actually OWN stuff? As in media, not chocolate with popcorn in it.
I mean streaming is grand for people who like it but I’d like to at least have the option to say “Hey, I like this show, I’m buying the lot and keeping it forever”
Streaming isn’t a permanent solution because licensing expires – Netflix, Stan. etc. are just options to watch things without having to deal with cable TV pricing/scheduling. If you like a show enough to watch it repeatedly there’s no reason not to buy it.
As someone who generally doesn’t rewatch much, I’m happy to stream the bulk of the media I consume, given the stream is of reasonable quality. If I feel something was good enough to rewatch, I’ll go and buy a physical copy, sure, but I’d hate to have to do that for everything.
Apart from anything else, I have enough trouble finding a place to keep my games collection, let alone movies or TV shows. The haul from JB’s last sale sits on a shelf in front of some of my 360 game library because I literally have nowhere else to put them, except on another shelf in front of another part of my 360 library.
Rewatching is one of the major things I tend to do, I’m very selective and do rewatch a lot of stuff so I guess I’m at the exact opposite end of the spectrum than the one everyone seems to be pitching at which is all kinds of annoying. It’s kind of like the inverse of how Futurama was a show that felt designed specifically for me, this trend is designed specifically to alienate me…
Like I said to @liondrive yesterday, I’m pretty much using Netflix as a try before you buy service, I can watch something I normally wouldn’t consider buying just in case I didn’t like it, but if I do happen to like it I have every intention of buying it down the track. Plus there’s a lot of stuff on there that I never knew existed.
Haha, well you do want to own this chocolate as well 😉
The older I get, the less I want to own physical things, with a few exceptions (I can’t do ebooks, I need my paper). The more digital content I have over physical, though, the better.
Well that’s the thing, I want digital content too, I just want to own it rather than stream it
Ohh, right, I misunderstood. My favourites I’ll buy digitally, but other things I just want to try out or won’t watch again, I don’t feel the need to own or take up extra hard drive space with.
I have a spare room full of things in cases and to be honest, at least half have been watched/listened to/played once and could easily be purged. Moving them is a hassle. They take up space and collect dust. Even though I have a collector personality, I’m getting tired of having piles of stuff for no other reason that we bought it at some point and can’t seem to part with it.
Streaming keeps stuff out of my house, so I don’t mind it at all.
Yeah I definitely get that, I do have a lot of DVDs and they’re a bit inconvenient in taking up space and since I’m so lazy I tend to have digital copies (not necessarily 100% legal in some cases but since I OWN the damned things…) so I don’t have to change discs and so I tend to hoard on HDDs these days
Life is Strange Ep 2 end spoilers:
Oh man, confronting stuff. I managed to talk Kate from jumping, but didn’t feel like I had enough evidence to confront Nathan in the principal’s office. Feel like I threw the security guy under the bus, a little. (Especially after talking to his wife earlier in the diner.) Hope I get the chance to collect evidence. Just seemed too early and too little detail to accuse Nathan.Really great episode!
I love the slow pace and slow burn of this game. I love being able to have conversations with people not important to the plot and look at things not important to plot. Really deepens the world and makes it feel alive. Definitely more Quantic Dream than Telltale.
I need to grab that season pass.
Only problem is, PILLARS
Can be finished in about two to three hours an ep. I love how they give a time frame for next ep at end too. (May 2015 for ep 3, just so you know!)
Yeah, I’ll still get it, but I prefer playing episodes from games like that in one sitting.
It’s allocating 2-3 hours of time that I need to do. That’s not always doable on a weeknight.
I’m waiting for a special! I think there will be one before the season is finished.
Definitely going to be one of those “buy when it’s fully released ” games. Just like Game of Thrones and Tales of the Borderlands
I think it’d play extremely well as a binge watch kind of thing, so that sounds like a solid plan!
For some reason, I have the We Do song from the Stonecutters episode of the Simpsons stuck in my head. I don’t mind, because it’s an awesome song, but no idea why it’s in my head.
On other unrelated matters, I’ve finally worked out what I’m doing with the money my sister gave me for my birthday. I’m going to buy the LEGO Hulk Buster Smash set because the Hulk Buster looks amazing, and having the Hulk, Ultron Prime, Scarlet Witch and Iron Man type 43 minifigs will be cool. Plus, it’s only $45 at Toyworld.
Woo! Toyworld!
Fun Fact: Toyworlds are all independent. That means, for the tenth time, customer, that I can’t just look online and see if they have stuff at another store.
I still love going into Toyworld to look at the LEGO section. It’s pretty great. Unfortunately, the Transformers section is nowhere near as good as it was when I was a kid (G1 for lyf yo!)
I bought a lot of LEGO when I worked at one.
Also Video Games. when that copy of whatever has been staring at you all day it gets really tempting.
I can imagine. I would have been the same.
I streamed videogames last night (http://twitch.tv/lucifer9783) it went all right, I only dropped my net for 2 minutes, no biggie, and my local recording worked, so that’s good.
I might do more streams at around noon local (12:30 east), you’re all welcome to watch (http://twitch.tv/lucifer9783)

FF15 Demo stuff,
I decided to start the demo since WoW was down for the night (Great sense of priorities right?)
Anyways I was walking around the woods at night I swear I was locked in combat for 15+ minutes with infinite spawning wolves, is this normal? is this just part of the risks of going out at night? it was actually quite annoying.
Yeah, same thing happened to me. Worst thing is random soldiers appeared and started to work together with the wolves. Why would wolves and random soldiers be BFF? Who knows but for some reason they teamed up to beat me.
I just ran from fights at nighttime. Enemy’s don’t really like to persue you very far.
No wolf make game bad ok great ok not good perfect but not bad
Still best review ever!
This is what you get for ditching hots and going to FF15 =@
That would be a sound analysis, if HotS even had a chance of me playing to begin with 😛
There’s always a chance. ALWAYS. D=
hots later tonight? =P
I applied for a call center job in ADE, yay, the interview is tomorrow, less yay, in ADE, even less yay, at 9:30 AM, even more less yay
Hey, ADE!
Surely a call centre can do a phone interview…
I’d like to be there in person, I get nervous talking on the phone to strangers.
…but you’re going for a job in a call centre?
Don’t you try and use your fancy logic on me.
Ah, tinned spaghetti on toast. A meal fit for a king.
You took the spaghetti out of the tin first though, right?
Oh shit, knew I forgot something 😛
Melt some cheese on that if you’re feeling fancy!

Annoying thing about the PSN, it tells you it’s finished downloading and installing a game when it actually hasn’t. I was all set to play Bloodborne, but it wouldn’t let me go online because the game wasn’t fully installed. Turns out I still have 10 gigs to download.
That happened to me with Dying Light, I started it up, played through the first bit (basically the tutorial), then I had to take the lift downstairs to do my first main mission and it wouldn’t let me, just had a percentage on the screen. I went bugger this, I’m not sitting up waiting for it and went to bed.
Yeah, this pre-installing thing that consoles do now is BS. You get halfway through downloading a file or installing a disk and the console flashes up “Ready to Start!”. The promise from the console devs pre-launch was “yeah, the game will be part installed so you can start playing right away!”
Buuuuuullshiiiiiiiit. I don’t think there’s been a single game where that’s true. You might be able to load the menu, perhaps change your settings, set your Y-axis to inverted, etc. But try and launch the game and you get nowhere.
For me, it happened with Knack, and that was fine, But I will agree that for many games it hasnt happened
Ivor Biggun – The Other Educated Monkey
Reply-fail page get \o/
Even though it’s not a dad joke per se, my dad introduced me to Ivor Biggun and the Red-Nosed Burglars during my childhood by playing one of his albums constantly to piss off my stepmother.
Aside from The Other Educated Monkey, which is a wonderful narrative spun in limerick format, I was quite fond of The Farmer’s Song, The Winker’s Song (misprint), and the slightly less subtle John thomas Allcock.
so I dedicate this page six to my dad, who at some point will be forced to take full responsibility for my impact on society.
What’s grey and can’t fly?

I think I want a job cleaning mirrors. It’s just something I could really see myself doing.

I swear you just sit there waiting for page 6 to come around every week, don’t see you post anywhere else anymore.
Don’t mean to have a go at you, but there’s more to Kotaku than just #dadjokepage6.
LIES. Don’t listen to him @haggis!
Page 6 is all that matters. ALL. THAT. MATTERS.
My life has no meaning without page 6 :D. To be honest, my life is not that great at the moment so I don’t want to burden anyone with my crap and I don’t really play games anymore so I can’t really join in with anything game related so yeah, that’s it basically.
In other words, I like page 6.
Sure, I get that, but this is TAY, you can talk about anything here, it doesn’t have to be about games. A lot of us are talking about Netflix for example, you can talk about whatever makes you happy (and whatever doesn’t) here.
I’m sorry if I upset you, if there’s stuff you need to get off your chest we’ll be here to listen.
Nah, i’m good man thanks though. I don’t really get any benefit from complaining or talking about stuff on here, that’s what counselling is for and I don’t want to look like a whiner because everyone has their struggles in life so I’d rather not pollute everyone else’s enjoyment of stuff which I don’t partake in at the moment 🙂
In the meantime, I will continue to make other peoples lives richer (or not) with dad jokes 😛
Fair enough, but if you ever want to talk about anything whether it be car racing/movies/problems your having/whatever, we’ll be here.
You contribute more than I do in that regard, but on the whole yeah I’m in the same boat as you.

I’ve put some unboxing pictures of the Nightmare Edition of Bloodborne up over on my Instagram account (https://instagram.com/strange_stitches/) if anyone wants to have a look. Pleasantly surprised with the quality and heftiness of everything. Pretty cool to see a bunch of quilty ladies liking my pictures of it all, too.
Edit: still an hour to go until the update’s downloaded. I’ll barely get to begin before the kids get home. I’ll only have time to die about a hundred times! 😛
It looks sooooo cool!
Urrrrrgh, I really should have lashed out for that. Darn it.
To be honest, I thought it was kind of lame and not worth it until I actually opened it. Did not expect everything to be such good quality! You have my sincere apologies for not making you buy it!
That does look amazing
Did you open the ink? I can’t bring myself to do it
Did not open the ink. So tempted to write my kids’ next absence notes using that quill and blood-like ink though! 😀
Woo just bought Bloodborne! Now to commence the “I have an unfinished assignment due tomorrow so I don’t have time to play Bloodborne” weeping session.
Forget Dad jokes…this is now #bloodbornepagesix! \o/
See you on page seven then.
Now you know how us anti-page sixers feel. 😛
Oh, don’t worry, we’ll get to #pillarspage8 soon enough.
Netflix page three/four/five was pretty amazing!
Looking forward to that game an unbelievable amount!
The only issue I have is that my PC setup isn’t super conducive to long stretches of PC mouse-based RPGs
might be time to get a proper monitor and desk
Might be time for me to get a mouse. I imagine playing on a laptop’s touchpad’s gonna be a bit annoying….
@strange I got an eb voucher last year that translated into quite a nice logitech one that I got for around $70, still really nice to use.
So every page is being re-numbered to six then.
Pillars of Eternity tomorrow. It’s gonna be a massive time sink! D:
Ugh. Save it for #pillarspage8! 😛
Life is Strange page 9? It’s just going to be me talking the entire page! So much enthusiasm though!
@strange doesn’t need another page of her being tagged in every post.
Between The @strange, #dadjokepagesix, and Life is @strange, her inbox must be a right mess.
I don’t tag her with Life is Strange posts. I’m scared she’ll fight me. I can’t win that fight.
Strange (and yourself) are still on the list of “taybies I haven’t met” so I can’t judge either of you on fightability, vs each other or myself.
Alls I can say is that my response to a fight is invariably “leg it”
Do more pushups.
The training montage has begun!

I’mma play a rogue, surprising everyone.
Although, I won’t be able to in Torment.
Was going to play Life Is Strange: Episode 2 to see if it was any better than the first one, but I don’t really have enough time before my son gets home.
Might give it a shot tonight, hope it’s better, but after the first one my expectations for it are pretty low.
Unfortunately I don’t think you’re going to like it, man. Very much just an extension of the first episode. I absolutely love it, but if you didn’t like the first one I can’t see that changing. :'(
Ah well, there’ll be some easy trophies at least.
12 minutes until I can spend an hour creating my Bloodborne character! 😛
Planning on rushing through to get to the game I see. Oh well, each to their own
#FashionBorne
The character creation is really cool too
Yeah, I especially loved how you could make and save “favourites”. Nifty!
So my boss is apparently on the warpath about wages, and how I owe a couple of hundred hours. I work all the hours it says on the roster and sometimes more, it’s not my fault they don’t roster me on for 40 hours. Also, nevermind the fact that I never got paid for more than 100 hours of overtime in my first year of being full time and the 5 weeks of annual leave I’m owed on top of this years 4 and that he doesn’t pay leave loading because he” likes to keep it simple”.
Screw this, I’m gonna tell him if he’s that worked up about it to put me on part-time instead and to never expect any overtime from me.
Hmm, I dunno what industry you’re in, but this may be a conversation it’s good to have with HR or a union first, even informally.
If it’s about conditions you have to be really careful.
We don’t have a HR department/officer, but we did have someone from the union come around once and when he found out he wasn’t very happy about it. Been thinking about joining the union lately, but not sure if I should bother or just look for another job.
Well, you’ve got a right to join and be a member of a union regardless.
Yup and punishing you in any way for doing it is one of the easiest way your boss can land himself in a great big steaming pile of shit.
Unions can’t really help with problems that exist before joining them but an on-going one like fucking around with wages might be an exception. Then again, not handling payroll properly is one of those things I’d go straight to the ombudsman on if it was me. “Keeping it simple” isn’t an excuse for theft.
First off as red mentioned if you have a union rep speak to them first to find out where things stand.
If you aren’t part of a union then rights always fall to benefit the employer; from the sounds of things it sounds like you’re on a full time contract. If the contract states directly the number of hours you are expected to work and you don’t have written or recorded communication where you’ve raised issues with whomever does the roster resulting in you working fewer hours than your contract then your boss definitely has the legal high ground.
As an unspoken rule workers on a full time contract are expected to work anywhere from 5-15 hours over time a week; to date I’ve yet to be in a job that’s happy to enforce the 40 hour work week on a full time contract. But once again this is the case when unions AREN’T involved; so if you have a union definitely take it up with them first.
Never signed a contract, it was just verbal.
Lol then your boss doesn’t have anything to stand on with this claim you’ve been working hours outside your agreed upon times =P but it cuts both ways cos now you don’t either when it comes to your rights in contesting his claims (even though his claims have no grounds really). The only thing I can see working for him here is if you have payroll slips showing 40 hours and rosters showing less; but it’s still a very grey area because there’s no underlying contract in place.
It’s up to you really at this point; if you enjoy the job you have plenty of leeway to try and make amends and maybe this time try and get something in writing (even an e-mail or a text will hold up better than a verbal conversation). But if you’re unhappy you might as well look for greener pastures and then leave once you have something else lined up.
Unfortunately some bosses are extreme penny-pinchers and think that wages are just another form of theft. I’ve seen some serious nutjobs in small-businesses that should never have been allowed to hire staff because they can’t manage a paper bag without getting angry or frustrated.
My first impression of this is that: 1) You really should have a contract and 2) You should probably be permanent part-time.
Find someone who knows your rights in this situation and have them explain your options. It’s hard to act when you don’t know what actions you can take.
Seriously, why has it taken me so long to watch Aliens? What an amazing movie. Different to Alien, but equally good. Getting hyped to see Alien 5 or whatever the hell it ends up being called.
Have you seen 3 and Resurrection?
Not yet, but from what I’ve read 5 is a direct sequel to Aliens, and 3 and Resurrection may be written out as a dream.
I wouldn’t mind if they were ignored completely, to be honest. They’re not terrible movies, but they take the story in a direction I didn’t find very enjoyable.
The worst part is how much a visual step backwards 3 was, totally insane

Interesting piece of GalNet news last night in Elite:
Spent a good couple of hours running around looking at all sorts of places that seemed like they might be the possible station to find them. Only to then found out that the news piece had accidentally gone out early, so we were all rushing around looking for nothing. Dammit 😛
Ooooh. 🙂 I’ve probably got absolutely no chance at this. But it’s a fun idea.
I spent last night gun-running into Khaka – community goal there. Got invited into a random wing. Amusing politics – “I’d seen you run in and out of the station a few times and you had helped a couple of random commanders out with information so I figured you probably weren’t a pirate, but you’re in an Asp and I’m in a Type-6 so I’m a bit cautious…” Worked out well in the end, I’d just got a full load of computer components to run back to Jameson Memorial, the other pilots were heading to another system. Met them there, loaded to the gills with battle weapons. Managed a mostly uneventful run back to Khaka at which point my smuggling skills became useful. 3 of us got into the station OK, but the 4th, a Cobra, came in way too hot and smashed into the far end of the station, contributing to the giant cloud of canisters floating about inside the docking bay… he took it well. There was laughing.
Also, one poor commander posted on LOCAL that he’d asked his brother what the silent running key was as he was making his run. His brother lied. By the time he’d worked it out he was in the door and getting shot at. Boom. Cloud of canisters…
It’s very hard scooping inside the station, just so you know.
Mostly Harmless, Merchant, Pathfinder.
Bloodborne no arrive today. But that’s okay. Might give me a chance to finish off my Beyond Two Souls platinum run. I’m on the home stretch now. Not all that much to go, just play through to the end.
I’m on The Mission now, and I just have to avoid being spotted. After that, I just have to make sure Norah and Cole and Ryan all die, and I’m all set to collect the unseen endings. Ta-dah! Platinum.Yeah, still no update to the tracking info. So a bit of Plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare before work, some Netflix when I get home and hopefully it’ll come tomorrow.
Also, I guess I have Undad to worry about. Don’t need Bloodborne sucking away my will to live a real-life life right now 😛
MONSTER!
Pfft, whatever.
Norah is a mercy, Ryan’s a jerk. The only one I’ll feel bad about is Cole.I was worried I’d have more trouble than I could cope with when all the previews and reviews of Bloodborne harped on about faster paced fighting and being punished for being careful but so far I think I’m going to be able to cope. Well, as well as I’ve ever coped in a FROM game. 😛
It’s pretty tense, though. And for a while I thought I was never even going to be able to defeat the first enemy. I was too much aware of all the things said about the combat, but when I stopped thinking about all that, the rhythms of fighting started to come naturally and I was able to progress. Phew! Would have sucked having this gorgeous Nightmare Edition sitting there mocking me….
Looking at my past 24 months of game purchases, I’ve probably given Paradox Interactive more money than anyone else except maybe Sony. Not that I’m giving them money for it, but they’re publishing Pillars as well.
For someone who considers himself a console gamer, that’s quite a feat
Your conversion is underway. Soon you will join us in the glorious PC master race.
And play DOTA and COD?
Gods no.
People play COD on PC? Thought it was mostly a console affair.
Counterstrike or TF2 then.
Or Battlefield
If I can get a thing on console, I get it on console.
Fair enough, for me it depends on the type of game.
The list of games I’d prefer to play on consoles is pretty short. These days it’s pretty much only exclusives because anything that can be played on the PC will have better load times, at the very least.
It’s odd that you would consider yourself a primarily console gamer. That would not have been the tag I put on you. I guess it is just because of where our interest overlap that I see you talking more about paradox games, rpgs and civilisation that i would have considered you part of the master race.
I play most “big” games on console, it’s only really strategy games I play on PC
Where’d everyone go?
Working on the next bookmark. Sorry
And it’s finished.

THE STRANGE: THE SERIES
EPISODE 1: PART 4
The party headed into the ruins beneath Shalmarn, where they managed to not wake a sleeping Hydra and found an ancient room with a pristine white skull.
Bazza (@quiz_b) bearhugged a jackal-headed stinky thing (a Sark) into submission before passing out himself
John (@trjn) explored the utility of live bait and sticky twine
Captain Brilliant (@blaghman) Chose Death and was rewarded
Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hd6sD3p5P3c
NEXT TIME ON THE STRANGE (@strange?):
The party recovers from their ordeal with the sark and then explore the ruins. But where are the rest of their party?
When we’re done with this, I’m checking Bazza into rehab.
Edit: For the record “pegging the bunny” is not a euphemism and will remain to not be a euphemism until my dying day. Please.
…why did I Google that…?
I thought the phrase was self-explanatory.
It wasn’t a euphemism.
However, “Trying to move the dragon statue” is.
I’m in tears right now with the Bunny/Blaghs shenanigans while listening to this xD
If there’s one thing I’ve learned from both this and Numenera, it’s that sometimes just giving you guys a reasonably simple scenario is enough for a whole bunch of shenanigans.
“This is so easy, they can’t possibly screw this u- oh wait, there we go.”
Like I said at the end, I know you were probably giving us a simple combat scenario. I liked my approach better.
Eh, it all handles the same mechanically, so I’m happy with any approach. It’s smart playing if you can avoid taking damage as much as possible.
I genuinely wasn’t trying to play smart. Running into an obvious trap after Blaghs managed to get in safely should have been a pretty good hint :p
THEN TELL ME WHY YOU SENT ME TO THE TOP OF A STAIRWELL OVER A PRECIPICE WITH A RABBIT TIED TO ME VIA STICKY TWINE TO THROW IT AT A BLOODY JACKAL LIKE THING 30 FEET AWAY?
That was cunning, not smart.
Was going to watch something on Netflix, but someone at work leant me John Wick, so I’ma watch that.

UNI.
How is it going for everyone? I know quite a few people this year decided to get themselves some higher education! Including some people (like me) who hadn’t been at uni for a while!
I am signed up for 4 courses which means my masters will only take a year. I am wondering if this is MADNESS and maybe I should drop out of one or two. What do you think? I am currently a full time student and a full time worker (and full time puppy owner). BUT IT IS FUN.
Not sure if the coursework will get heavier just like I am not sure if work will get heavier but thus far I seem to be coping…
Uni is going alright for me.
Much prefer this course (Graphic Design) than Computer Science! 😀
So long as you’re handling everything ok, it should be fine, though FT work and study seems a bit hectic :S

I have an assignment due Monday that I have barely started.

Played Bloodborne.
Spoileristisated!
Got to Cleric beast (is that it’s name?) and soundly and comprehensively stomped into the ground a couple of times over. Gave up for the night.Sweet mother of selected deity of choice, this game is pretty. I am loving the atmosphere and the setting. Feels infinitely more terrifying and disturbing than Souls. Love it.
Incidentally, I finished Demon’s Souls way back when it first came out – loved it. Played Dark Souls probably… halfway through? For some reason I had trouble getting into it. Still got Dark Souls II sitting there untouched. Bloodborne seems to be tickling my ticklish bits though.I didn’t have really have much trouble with cleric beast, it pretty much felt like a standard souls fight, father Gascoigne on the other hand is just dominating the shit out of me.
Bloodborne! Spoilerificised, just in case.
It’s been a long time between these games, and I haven’t upgraded a single thing. Maybe need to do some upgrades and just learn his movements better. I had about 6 or 7 thousand echoes, and they’re all on the floor right next to him.EDIT: Also using the cane, which is great, but doesn’t hit very hard. Think I just need to stay behind him, but he’s so big that up close, the camera just gets you killed when you’re locked.
Yeah I started a character with the cane and waste of skin, I couldn’t even get to the cleric beast, restarted with saw cleaver and military background and it has been much smoother. I think the cane looks awesome it’s just terribly weak
I rolled a character based on what I thought looked cool and appealed to me, but maybe it’s not practical. I rolled cane and the…. troubled background? Tragic past, but renewed purpose or however it’s described.Maybe I need to be more practical.
Oh man, the music and the sound design. So perfectly, beautifully creepy. The whole atmosphere is awful, but in a good way.
It’s gorgeous. It just oozes atmosphere. The enemy design is fantastic too. Some of them are so offputting, almost upsetting.
Those crows. =(Those crows are fucking adorable. The way they flap in the air and just nosedive unto the ground.Spoiler tags? Spoiler tags, apparently.
Yeah, we decided to be spoiler sensitive for Bloodborne. Makes sense. Especially for all those poor, poor souls stuck in Japan. Which must be terrible.
Hate to be that hipster, but I gotta say it.
Bloodborne is a Demon’s Souls game, through and through. New / changed enough that it feels like my first time with Demon’s Souls.
So yeah, sorry Monster Hunter. Your monsters may have to remain unhunted for a little while. I’m probably going to coast a little lower on the radar while I do this too. (A lack of mobile data for a while won’t help either)
I don’t think that’s hipster. I think that’s awesome.
I’m the true hipster here, Bloodbornes too mainstream I’m onto the next game similar to this one that you’ve probably never heard of because that’s how indie it is *rides out old timey window on a penny farthing*
I loved Monster Hunter, but ever since Tri/3U I’ve just had so much trouble getting properly into it. MHFU on PSP had at least a couple of hundred hours put into it, MHP3rd (fanslated ISO) close to the same.
MH4U was better than Tri/3U, but I just went ‘meh’ after 20 odd hours. Enjoying Toukiden/Freedom Wars a lot more.
I think the direction of the games changed a bit, not to my liking, and I honestly think the move to Nintendo hasn’t helped. It’s logical from a business standpoint, but the 3DS is just…. not great for MH.
I’ve been having a tonne of fun with MH4U, but the control systems are similar and different enough that I can’t play it and Bloodborne at the same time. My brain can’t handle it. (Same reason I haven’t touched Bayonetta since a first go when it first arrived)
You were right @dc, I do not like episode 2 of Life Is Strange at all. But I was stupid enough to pay for the season pass before I knew what it was about, it’s digital so I can’t return it, and it looks like Bloodborne’s not coming today so I’m gonna force myself to play it for the trophies.
I want to just delete it and forget it ever existed, but something’s telling me not to because I paid money for it and can’t take it back or sell it so I should just play it and get it out of the way otherwise it’s wasted money. I’m gonna get that platinum if it kills me.
This is one thing I don’t like about digital, once you buy it you’re stuck with it whether you like it or not, if it was on disc I could’ve at least sold it.
I know we’re used to not spoilertagging Souls games, but I’m wondering if we should start doing it for Bloodborne? I’ve been just posting non specific things, but I think when I start talking more about it I’ll put it in spoiler tags. Because it’s different enough from Souls games that it might have some surprises.
Edit: Woo…one page closer to #pillarspage8!
I would appreciate that.
We were spoilering them when they were new. There’s a lot of exploring to do and some of us have to wait a while before we get around to it.
I haven’t mentioned any specifics, but I’ll be mindful.
EDIT: Edited and spoilerificated previous posts, just in case.
People playing Bloodborne: Is there an invading mechanic in this game, similar to Souls? Haven’t heard anything about it so I was wondering.
Not sure. Haven’t played online yet. Game was installed and patched, but when I went to go online, got some thing saying the game wasn’t installed completely. Weird.
Apparently there is. There’s also co-op :O
http://kotaku.com/a-helpful-guide-to-bloodbornes-confusing-multiplayer-op-1693582137
I’ll put this in spoiler tags just in case, but I’m just talking about what’s in that article.
Having to “ask” to be invaded sounds fantastic to me! Really glad it doesn’t look to be always on anymore. It’s my one dislike with the Souls games 😛Gryy zr nobhg vg, jnf frevbhfyl pbafvqrevat cynlvat bssyvar.
Had to ROT13 because for some reason spoiler tags aren’t working for me. Not that it’s really a spoiler, but whatever.
Yeah, the buttons aren’t working at the moment. You can manually put the code tags in though.
I tried submitting an issue report last night but the form isn’t working either 😛
EDIT; Nevermind! The form just doesn’t work in Chrome. Just submitted now in Firefox.
I believe playing co-op automatically opens you up to invasion as well, which seems fair

On the backer portal, log in and go “generate key.” they just sent an email out about it too from KS.
Thanks
Considering there has been almost 100 updates I haven’t been reading them. Not overly interested in the development process, I just want to play the game.
Normally I’m not too worried about it but in this case please do. Save me from myself.
I think Bloodborne is the first game that has made me think “You know, maybe buying a PS4 isn’t such a bad idea after all…”
I blame all of you!
(Still not going to buy one though :P)
One of us, one of us.
Yeah, that’d be good. I was trying to do that during the countdown for important stuff, and I’d appreciate it! 🙂
It will ease the constant tears streaming from my eyes due to not being able to play it yet.
Yeah, spoilers would be great 🙂
I know they’re nothing big, but people have been mentioning stuff like item names (the currency, for instance), boss locations, and just general stuff, but I’d rather not know, to be honest :3
I wanna find out all this stuff for myself :O
Hey guys, there’s an Easter sale on the Playstation Store, I remember some people were talking about buying the season passes for Tales From The Borderlands and Game Of Thrones, I can’t see what the prices are because I’ve already bought them, but they’re on sale if you’re interested.
Also, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is $10.45 (might finally pick that up), and The Walking Dead (both seasons) and The Wolf Among Us are down to $17.51 each, man those are tempting, I’d rather have the disc versions, but those prices, I could pretty much buy all 3 for the price of one physical copy. Doesn’t help though that I’m really struggling for hard drive space on my PS4.
Have you played those before and are looking for a second playthrough, or are they completely new to you? Because I know you’re pretty bitter about your decision to purchase Life is Strange, but I cannot recomment Walking Dead or The Wolf Among Us enough.
I loved TWD and wasn’t familiar with Fables so I was really surprised by how much I liked TWAU. The fact that people are saying Borderlands is even better has me pretty hyped – I bought it last week when it went on sale alongside the release of episode 2 but haven’t played it yet (I also picked up Game of Thrones last night since it went 25% off on Steam to celebrate the release of episode 3).
Yeah, I have played through the entirety of The Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead S1, but haven’t played S2 yet. Really enjoyed TWD except I find Clementine really annoying and want her to die.

Still no update to the tracking of my copy of Bloodborne since Monday, Fucking Australia Post. If it doesn’t come in the mail tomorrow this’ll be the last time I buy a major release on the internet, could’ve been playing it yesterday if I’d paid 10 bucks more, but nooooo.
Ring aus post about it, 2 days is insane for cross country delivery, unless it’s coming from Perth, there should of been some sort of update. Hang in there it’s worth the wait
Think with Mightyape it comes from New Zealand (I could be wrong), but on their website it says standard delivery time is 3-6 business days. Still there’s been no update to the tracking info on Auspost since Monday.
Has it entered the country though? Shouldn’t be any delay if it’s hit Australia, if it hasn’t it might be in customs limbo
I’ve got the feeling it’s just Auspost being lazy pricks.
@shane’s in the same boat as me.
Hi guys.
I’m not dead yet!
Started a new game with my Dark Heresy group, putting our previous doods on hold to start a campaign we are recording called – TO KILL AN EMPEROR!
That’s right. We’re a buncha heretics and we are tasked with killing the Emperor of mankind.
WHAT COULD GO WRONG?!!?
How is everyone today?
OH!!!!
I also got the Pretty Pretty Smash Up expansion for smash up!!!!!!!!!
IT HAS KITTIES!!! AND FAIRIES!!! AND PRINCESSES!!! AND MYTHICAL HORSES!!!!
I AM FAR MORE EXCITED FOR THIS THAN I SHOULD BE!!!
I would love to watch these if you’re recording them :D. We’ve still got our TAYbie Rogue Trader going, praise the Omnissiah! \o/
Also, HI LOOPS!
See line 1
PeniclHi Loops! *waves*
So that sounds like evil, Black Crusade goodness. I’m curious what your group is comprised of because, you know, even daemon princes and ten thousand year old veteran Chaos terminators haven’t come close to killing the Emperor. But I hope you’re enjoying it so far.
But that could be it, they’re PREPARED for the elite of the elite. But are they prepared for a group of BUMBLING FOOLS?
NO! Not even we are!
We have:
Me as a corrupt Sororitas (Slaanesh)
A bumbling Tech Priest
A Priest
and a Psyker.
WINNING!
Well I see you went Smut for the Smut God. 😛
Actually I will be trying to be low key on the smut.
It just made the most sense for me as being the only god that would have anything that would even begin to tempt a sister – plus he/she/it is the only thing that has actually succeeded at it in the past 🙂
I know whenever I have played a Slaaneshi cultist or character I’ve tended to shy away from the whole sexual aspect too. It makes things far more interesting in my opinion. I had a soldier fall to Slaanesh because she was the last survivor when her unit was massacred. She went partially insane and became devoted to becoming a stronger and better fighter so that no one else she cared about had to die because she was weak. Sure, I could’ve gone Khorne in that respect but she became brutally focused on being the perfect and unbeatable warrior. Basically the female version of Lucius the Eternal.
That’s what I like about Chaos and indeed all of 40K. Sure there are the stereotypes but it’s so much fun to subvert them or interpret them in new and frankly far more interesting ways.
I have nothing wrong with the more adult side of Slaanesh and it makes a lot of sense, as Slaanesh is the god of excess – but Sisters already self flagellate, which gives them a good feeling as they do it in the name of the emperor – take that a step further when the pain becomes pleasure due to the influence of slaanesh.
Plus Soritas are notoriously beautiful and exemplary specimens of woman-kind, which makes it even more of a draw card.
I imagine my sororitas to look completely normal at the surface, but beneath the robes her body would be a maze of scars that reflect her true allegiance and deceit.
Just play as a Slaanesh follower who finds pleasure in being a prude. Not like Slaanesh is explicitly sexual and *only* about sex, just pleasure. I find pleasure in Mac N Cheese so my cult followings would be to gorge myself to death on Mac N Cheese 😀
That sounds like an awesome take instead of the usual “raw raw fight the chaos”
Yeah it should be really good fun… you know, if we take it seriously… haha
LOOOOOOOOPS!!!!!!!!!!!
…
Hi o/
HEY BUDDY!
\o
LOOOOOOPS!
Hey buddy!
How’s things? Keeping (in)sane?
Glad to see you’re not above slumming it with us lot every now and then 😛
Above?
Dude – I’m not worthy of the awesomeness of all you guys!
Tried to continue with Life Is Strange for the trophies and I just can’t do it, got the first trophy and I’ve already had enough. Think if I want that platinum I’m gonna have to play it in short bursts (one trophy per session).
Back to Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare while I wait for Bloodborne.
Yes, I know I’m a Philistine and a monster.
If you’re not enjoying it, why trophy hunt it?
Because I used to be an Achievement whore, now I’m a Trophy whore. I’ve played some bad games for Achievements before, but I’m really struggling with this one.
Did some more GTAV last night while my wife watched Hemlock Grove. She’d apparently watched season 1 before and didn’t realise there was a second season so she was thrilled to get back into it when she saw Netflix had it.
I’d never seen it so I didn’t (and still don’t) know what it’s about, I thought it was some shonky Supernatural/Twilight knockoff or something. All I know about it now is that it’s one of the few non-HBO shows that is pretty liberal with boobs, which to my astonishment, has not really increased my interest in watching it.
I then went to bed early and watched an episode of Bojack Horseman. I’ve heard mixed reviews of this show but the occasional gifsets I see on tumblr had my interest piqued. First episode was a bit spotty but I’ll stick with it for now.
According to Wikipedia Hemlock Grove is a Horror/Thriller based on the book of the same name and it’s executive produced by Eli Roth, so I doubt it would be anything like Twilight, actually sounds fairly good.
Like I said, I know nothing about it. It just gave off a supernatural-y vibe. Isn’t Eli Roth the dude responsible for the Hostel movies?
I think so. Apparently he also produced The Man With The Iron Fists. Forgot the link in my first reply.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemlock_Grove_(TV_series)
Ah, I have Man With the Iron Fists on blu-ray. I picked it up because I saw a trailer that looks bonkers and it was on sale, but I haven’t gotten around to watching it yet.
Same, mine’s been sitting on the shelf for a fair few months now.
It was pretty goddamned average. Was pretty excited, mostly to see what the RZA could do as a first time director. Love his music/soundtrack work. It wasn’t terrible, was just….. incredibly meh.
That’s a shame. Oh well, I’ll get to it one day.
Yeah, definitely watch it. Don’t let me spoil it. I’m usually pretty upbeat about most movies too. Russell Crowe actually wasn’t too bad. It’s got a decent cast.
Really cold right now…
Lucky for me, I have a kitty who likes to snuggle… 😀
Can we trade weather? It’s damn humid here right now.
Yesss, new Toejam & Earl game reached it’s backing goal. Such a good game.
THURSDAY TAYDRENALIN SHOT
So, a Thursday morning question:
You’re given total and absolute control of the video gaming industry for one week. What do you implement, and what do you direct the effort of all of those people toward for one week?
I’d put everyone to work in trying to find a way to interact with an enviroment sustainably that doesn’t involve shooting people, because I’m finding that really tiresome at the moment
Telltale would produce an episodic game about everyday life and the choices we make everyday. Just a work/family life type story. It would be interesting for its real characters, and interesting story. It would not have set pieces, would not be terribly melodramatic or have supernatural powers, it would be about ordinary people doing reasonably ordinary things, juggling personality conflicts in the family and at work, that sort of thing.
I actually think at this point that Dontnod would do that just as well.
I’m liking their work way more than Telltale to be honest! 🙂
I’ll play it no matter who makes it. I’ve just been really impressed with Telltale in recent years.
Telltale are telling stories pretty well, though I think their engine needs a refresh.
Tales from the Borderlands is really fucking good though.
I agree that Telltale Tool needs some serious work. Here’s hoping their Lionsgate deal will mean an investment in the behind-the-scenes tech as well.
I notice the cracks more on console than PC, which is probably to be expected, but I’d love for more interactivity in their environments. Not necessarily more objects, but a bit more dynamism in things like weather or footprints or whatever.
Shows more in the GoT game than anything, where they’re trying to more closely approximate real people.
Yeah, they can hide it way better with stylized art like Borderlands and Wolf Among Us, but it’s very obvious with GoT and Walking Dead. Another good reason they’ve now got some friendly competition with Life is Strange. Hopefully they’ll push each other to lift their games.
@dc Life is Strange nailed the sunsetty pastel look I thought, which I think Telltale is pushing in parts of TWD. I hope they mechanically learn from each other (And from Quantic Dream, I think some of the joystick stuff in Fahrenheit is still really good)
@dc, I think I prefer the art style in The Walking Dead to any other Telltale game I’ve played thus far (though there are some weird graphical things that happened
like when Clem was sewing up her arm, and the needle was bouncing around a little too weirdly)Borderlands and Wolf are extremely pretty, though.
I think the focus is different. So far, Telltale has better characters, but the atmosphere of Life is Strange ep 1 was really well done.
Pity my slate is full, ep 2 is going to have to wait a bit.
I’d increase character and weapon customisation variety on all RPGs/Hack’n’slashs and flight combat games to as ludicrous levels as it can handle, so there are so many options a player can explore to make what they want to play with.
Interesting question
One week isn’t long. As you say working on interaction that isn’t a gun would be good. I think I would want to get people working on a way to include relationships that don’t end with sex as the ‘victory condition’.
To have options of having sex before the relationship has blossomed and then dealing with the dating, getting to know you aspect with the already gone that far.
To work out how to but true emotion into a story, rather than add coins until you level up or manipulative ‘do this or else’ kinda emotions
“Atari” would cease to be, Nintendo would buy Capcom because lol, and a whole bunch of guys would be mysteriously compelled to send a whole bunch of rare gaming pieces to some random dude in Sydney. Chaos 😛
Inverted Y-Axis is the new standard just to make my wife stop calling me a free every time I have to change from “normal” to “inverted” when starting a new game.
I definitely typed “freak” not “free”, and now I’ve lost the ability to edit posts again. Damn intermittent internet explorer compatibility!
YOU’VE GONE POWER MAD
WHAT’S THE POINT OF POWER IF YOU CAN’T GO MAD WITH IT
Take all those awesome things like microtransactions, season passes, preorders, early access, focus groups, DRM, current DLC practices, vertical slice ‘gameplay’ trailers, and other stuff, then put them behind a locked door, because they’re simply too awesome for this world right now.
Shit, I kept this comment open without replying for 22 hours. A new record. I started looking back at old Jimquisition episodes so I could think of more bullshit industry practices, but ended up just watching a bunch of Jimquisition instead. On the topic, Jim’s old episode on the lack of female protagonists was… something.
Woke up on time today, ready to go to work, albeit a little drained after yesterdays episode. Got in to work and after an hour and a half I started getting really dizzy. One of my colleagues who was sick earlier this week had exactly the same thing happen to him too! Must be something going round. At least he had the decency to apologize! “Sorry if I gave you my aids mang!” LOL
Glad I came home when I did though. Getting so woozy I’m gonna have to go lie down shortly. Lucky I made it home too, cos I almost got run off the road by some fuckwit 4×4 driver :\ *shakes fist*
Watched the Bloodline pilot on Netflix. Really liked the slow burn atmosphere of it. The setting is just really cool and shot beautifully. A nice cast too. Will be interested in seeing where it’ll go, but I love that I can just watch at whatever pace I want to in HD. I <3 Netflix.
We watched the pilot last night while waiting for the Bloodborne patch. It received rave reviews, including “slow” and “boring” (different sort of raving I guess).
Looks like it won’t be a joint activity if I keep watching more of it.
Played a bit of Bloodborne last night and died a few times because I was too tired to pay proper attention. It’s pretty fun, but the faster paced combat is going to take some getting used to. It’s very different from the slow paced, careful way I usually play Souls games.
Sounds like I’m gonna enjoy Bloodborne a lot more than Dark Souls I and II. Faster combat will suit my playstyle more I think.
Yeah, I’ve been having some adjustment pains to the faster combat.
Pillars of Eternity pre-load is done. I can’t wait to just get lost in this world.
I’d never heard of Pillars of Eternity until yesterday when you guys were talking about it. Might have to see what the fuss is about!
Damned TAY Marketing.
Obsidian write good RPGs. Fallout: New Vegas and KotOR 2 are among my favourites. Even their not so great games like Alpha Protocol had some great ideas behind them.
I really wanted to like what I played of Alpha Protocol, but dear god was it clunky as fuck.
I tried it once for about twenty minutes, hated the controls (mouse/keyboard just wasn’t worknig for me). I’ve always been thempted to go back after getting an Xbox controller for my PC in case it flows better with analog sticks.
It looks good enough to give me my CRPG fix until Tides of Numenera comes out, and that’s all I need.
Although if I PS4 soon I’ll have Witcher 2 and Dragon Age to add to the list
I just can’t wait to explore a world in HD isometric. Looks stunning. Love that feeling in an RPG of just pressing a bit further to see what’s around the next corner. <3
You’ll love the Numenera setting I think. Sci-fi but with all the fantasy tropes.
Dang, Torment still feels so far away at this point. Really keen to see how it plays with Numenera.
What character are you going to roll?
No idea. Not going to over think it. 😀 I usually end up with a rogue of some kind, though.
Rogue high five!
*other hand holds dagger just in case*
I saw two things when they launched the kickstarter:
1) Obsidian
2) No time/publisher constraints
And I was sold. Backed in an instant.
I love Obsidian games, and the stories they tell, but they have been hamstrung on more than one occasion by a rushed dev cycle and publisher pressures, and from having to work in other companies’ engines (which is why they have a bit of a reputation for bugginess). I’ve been keeping myself in the dark about PoE, so I’m going in completely blind, and am excited to get into it.
Also, school holidays after next week, huzzah.
Kotaku is covered in advertising for something called “Bloodbone”
What the hell is a Bloodbone?
Looks lame.
GET HIM OUT OF HERE OR I WILL CRY.
Everybody out of the pool! This guy right here, this guy
Hey Jerkface! You have the face of a jerk!
I believe it’s called Bloodporn
And just like that is has suddenly become Lopp’s GOTY
Jeezus, the line at the post office this morning… waiting for a good twenty minutes… but Bloodborne get!
Probably won’t get to it until tomorrow night or Saturday, tho… depends on Destiny. Still got a nightfall and a couple of weeklies to do, plus three raids.People in the office keep talking about a client named “Powell” and my ears prick up every time thinking they’re talking to me 😛
POWELL, RIGHT IN THE KISSER!
I know this is going to be beating a dead horse, but officially loving Bloodborne. Had a very rocky start with a less than favourable first character creation, but after restarting and finally getting the hang of the new control scheme, I am having a blast.
The tension from demon’s and DS1 are back in BB, which I never really once felt in DS2 and it is much darker and more brooding than any of the Souls series has been.
Yesterday’s word of the day, which is also today’s word of the day and next Wednesday’s word of the day: Baldrickian.
As in the devising of cunning plans?
Oh so very cunning.
So cunning you could stick a tail on it and call it a weasel?
So cunning that it was offered tenure at the Oxford school of cunning after giving a speaking tour on cunning.
n3DS get.
Bravely Default get.
Majoras Mask get.
Surprise weekend away get.
Tomorrow off work organised by wifey (and my sneaky boss) get.
Destination for trip… Unknown…
This birthday is turning out alright so far!
Niccccce
HSL, you’re the best!
Nice!
Majora’s is an awesome game that I need to find time to play on the 3DS.
Something something Bloodborne.

BRACES! DENTAL PLANETERNITY
The spoiler button is working again. Thanks dev guys!I finished Kimmy Schmidt!
I believe in Gosh and his son Jeepers!*sigh*
Did you watch any of it with your sister?
Yes, I rewatched three episodes! 😛
Well, 3 episodes is better than none I s’pose.
I’m only very slightly proud that you kinda sought of held up to watching them with her, even if it was technically re-watching.
Did you pretend like you hadn’t seen them? 😛
That would be deceptive! DECEPTIVE!
I was happy to rewatch. I like the show and am still riding the Netflix high. 😛
I think I’m going to have to try watching it again a bit further away off of coming off my 30 Rock binge.
It’s not bad, but it’s no 30 Rock.
Think I’m comparing it too highly :O
Love Jane Krakowski though! 😀
It’s not as laugh as loud funny as 30 Rock but warm and endearing and sweet. Pretty quotable too. I loved it.
You should watch Danger 5!
My favourite gag was (spoilers for one of the later episodes. Can’t remember which one)
“Pinot Noir… An ode to black penis” 😛 Plus the whole music video shooting was just hilarious. The last few episodes were the best I think.
I really liked the show! It’s different to 30 Rock. Characters seemed a bit more endearing (I guess because of the smaller cast). It’s a shame Jane Krakowski wasn’t in more scenes though. I’d still rate 30 Rock higher, but this was pretty good too.
I love all the stupid songs in the show, like the Daddy’s Boy musical number. Was so horribly cringe worthy. XDAw man, one of my favourite shows Looking was cancelled, but HBO is giving it a movie length special to tie up loose ends. Atleast when HBO cancels shows they treat them right. (Unless you’re Deadwood. :P)
Or Carnivale.
http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2015/03/25/broken-age-act-2-out-april-28-alongside-ps4-vita-versions.aspx
Hooray! Broken Age Act 2 has a release date!
Oooh, Vita version. Intriguing!
It’s so crazy beautiful as well. Amazing game. (Though I’ll need to replay it, as the Game Informer folks say… 15 months is a loooong time between chapters. Who knew Double Fine operated on Valve time? :D)
I was starting to worry that they ran out of money and weren’t finishing it.
Dear TAY,
6 months of Presto for free: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/187846
Just signed up – it works. Gonna try The Americans at last! @dc
Yessss! The Americans is so good! We’ll compare notes! 😀
Much obliged 🙂
There’s not much to Presto, but if it’s free, how much does there really need to be? 🙂
The Americans, season 5 of Nurse Jackie, a couple of Chris Lilley shows I didn’t watch, the new Muppets Movie, Boardwalk Empire, The Ducktales movie… that’s all I’ve found, and it won’t keep us occupied for six months, but it’s pretty good nonetheless! 🙂
Stan updated their catalogue massively in the month I had a subscription, so I imagine you’ll have new stuff staggered out the entire time. 🙂
SOLD
Well, that was pretty hard work, but I finally put the Lego Hulk Buster Smash set together. It looks pretty good. Pic on my Twitter if you haven’t seen it yet.
Finally got a chance to sit down and enjoy some
BloodpornBloodborne. Only got to play 30 mins …OMG IT JUST FEELS SO GOOD! Picked the “waste of skin” origin (Lower level so I can allocate points as I please). Also chose the pistol and the cane at the start. THE CANE IS SO COOL. It turns into a whip that deals pretty decent damage at medium range. Also I think I prefer the weapon mechanics over Dark Souls. Countering an enemy’s attack with a pistol shot is the best feeling EVER!NONE OF THAT TALK
IT’S #PILLARSPAGE8 NOW

I gave up on using the Cane, restarted with the Axe. The Pimp Cane is great for clearing waves, but I am just way too shit with it to do anything effectively.
YOU SHOULD WORK ON YOUR PIMPING SKILLS BLAGHS!
Blaghs. I am disappoint.
The Pimp Lyfe is not something you can just discard in favour of barbarism. The Pimp Lyfe called to you, and you turned away from it, proving yourself unworthy of it’s stylings.
I’m gonna give it a crack soon, first Souls game and no idea what I”m in for, I’ll prepare myself to die.
I also chose the cane. Because it’s a fracking cane, why wouldn’t you choose it? Duh.
*shakes cane* GET ORRF MY RUINED COBBLESTONE CITY
HELLO MY LOVELIES.
HELLO MY HONIES.
HELLO MY RAG-TIME GALS.
I demand that everyone stops playing Bloodborne immediately and waits for me to return to the country. Then you may play it.
We’ve moved past that
We all play Pillars of Eternity now.
Ahhhh! Pillars! I can’t wait, Red. I can’t wait! *flails arms*
Review embargo must end soon! Think midnight on the west coast?
Exciting! I won’t be reading them, though. Obsidian street cred and those screenshots alone have me convinced! I think it’d be cool knowing nothing about the world/lore/characters going in! 😀
Oh, they won’t influence me take on it, I just like reading them.
And I have to live vicariously as I’m out tomorrow night and Sat morning so can’t play until sat arvo.
Don’t know what it is and don’t care to as it is completely unimportant and irrelevant because Bloodborne.
This is Pillars page 8 Freeze. This anti pillars talk aint for here!
I don’t get what you’re trying to say. It’s like you’re trying to say Bloodborne but the words are coming out all screwy.
What sort of fake Bloodborne liker guy schedules a holiday for the release of Bloodborne! 😛
Bloodborne? More like Bloodbore
Your autocorrect screwed up the emphisiation of borne there. May need to update your library.
I got bored of it, I’m really into this cup and ball now.
WHOAAAA-HO
YOU NEVER KNOW WHERE THIS CRAZY BALL IS GONNA GO.
I watched the Arrow pilot today on Netflix. I liked the part where he
took off his shirtwas basically Batman!Dude.
Salmon ladder.
And I actually really like Arrow, it’s great. changes tone after the first ten or so eps, gets more comic-booky and better for it.
Certainly liked the pilot better than Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., love that I can experiment with shows like this on Netflix as well. Something I haven’t been interested to sample previously that’s just… right there on my TV in 1080p with minimal effort!
Just wait until they get the Flash.
THEY’RE MAKING GORILLA GRODD A THING DC
GORILLA GRODD
GORILLA
GRODD
Might sample Teen Wolf too. Both @strange and my pal Ben say it’s better than the name implies!
YES!
Shame about the rest of the show though. Can CW make one show, just one fucking show, that doesn’t have stupid teen drama?
IIRC, they did a season of Gilmore Girls, which had 21-y.o. drama. *nods*
Arrow is really fun.
I thought that the acting was pretty crappy in the first few episodes, but I think he was playing Ollie better than I realised.
Everyone just gets more and more impossibly pretty as the show continues too.
I read that John Barrowman is in Arrow. I should probably watch it.
Yeah, he comes in to chew the scenery every now and then
You wait until an awesome bit.
A really awesome bit.
Kinda spoilery, but not spoilery in the slightest…
It involves an arrow, and a boxing glove. And it is awesome.Every episode is Nippletime!
Blerdberne (sorry everyone who doesn’t care):
Beat the second boss:
Explored around the sewery rat area, and came across a child in a house who gave me a quest, next spoilers relate to said quest.Pretty sure said quest was to use the item given by them on Father whatsisface, and now I feel really bad because it really wasn’t that subtle, and he really wasn’t that mad to begin with, and what if everything is a mistake and oh dear, regret regret regret.Be careful with her quest, there’s a lot of talk about being able to mess it up/bug it out
PS4 firmware v2.5 is now live, just in time to to stop having to boot Bloodborne up every time I want to play it. The Bloodborne Machine is complete.
Just came here to post this. Apparently you can now back up stored data to a “USB mass storage device”. Great news, but I still plan on buying a new 2.5″ internal drive to upgrade the storage, I’m thinking a 2TB (pretty sure that’s the biggest you can get).
God I hope they fix this load time issue in Bloodborne, it’s the most frustrating thing about dying
If you don’t want to have a bad time read this Bloodborne spoiler:
DO NOT DIE TO THE GUYS WITH THE SACKS. He randomly appeared just outside of the Cathedral Ward lamp post, he is not normally here, he is damn powerful but not invincible, he got a lucky 2 hit on me. You will be forced to play in a VERY difficult area if you die to him. Remember the painted world? yeah like that but much earlier in the game.Almost left it as a quote lol
Woah. That sounds pretty… awesome, terrible, and insane.
Night…
Goodnight, Crazy (and Max!) 🙂
BOARDGAMES
Played DarkStar again tonight. Went a little quicker than last time, also more aggressive. I almost got the upper hand over my friend, but then my boss killed my combat abilities and then I lost a battle or two and lost some ground and it was pretty much impossible to recover from there. Though a last-ditch battle ended in my favour right before we called it a night, so maybe I could’ve slightly pulled it back. Maybe. Probably not.
I’ve never invaded with the Souls franchise. Decided to give it a try for Bloodborne.
So if I invade you and I’m winning, please don’t disconnect.
Started watching Orphan Black on Netflix, not too bad so far.
It’s pretty good!
Then gets pretty weird, but gets even better at the same time!
Haven’t watched season 2 yet though…
Also, something something something Black Swan something something…
I will watch it, but it’s not on Netflix, so it’ll have to wait till I buy it on DVD. Might have a look in the shops today.
Watched two episodes so far.

Happy Birthday @cookingmama!
Ooh, it’s your birthday @cookingmama? Happy birthday! I hope you don’t have to make your own birthday cake like I do! Have a great day!
My best friend bought me a freaking crocquembouche on Monday! I’ve been eating profiteroles all week 😀
It’s your birthday @cookingmama? Hope it’s a good one.
Happy Birthday, Birthdaymama!
Happy birthday @cookingmama
Remember it doesn’t matter how much you eat, you have park run tomorrow 😉
True! Although everyone knows there are no calories in birthday cake.
Correct.
But what about breakfast in bed. Birthday lunch. Fancy birthday dinner.
Happy birthday @cookingmama
Happy Birthday CookingMama!
@shane, the tracking still hasn’t updated since monday. If there’s no change in the next hour or two I don’t think we’ll get it before the weekend.
*shakes fist at Mightyape and Auspost*
That sucks. Hope you and @shane get it before the end of today.
I’m surprised you guys thought pre-ordering online from anyone other than the regular Australian big names like JB and EB would get you Bloodborne before the weekend. I’ve been burned too many times before to take a chance.
I knew it wouldn’t be a release day thing. I was always prepared for this to go into next week.
You must have nerves of steel, being prepared to contain all that hype for so long. I salute you.
Yeah, the only reason I went with them is because it said it was gonna ship on Monday, I thought 5 business days would be enough time to get here, but apparently not.
Never again.
The last two games I’ve looked forward to this much were Dragon Age:Inquisition, and Dark Souls 2.
With Dark Souls 2, I’d pre-ordered for in-store pick-up from Big W online, only to find out on release day that in-store pick-up pre-orders are packed at the warehouse, where they post them to the store, who then tells you it’s ready for pick-up. A process which takes days. So their regular stock of the game came in before my pre-order. Good work, Big W. 😛
With Dragon Age: Inquisition I hadn’t pre-ordered, thinking it was a big enough release that if I went down on payday I’d be able to get a copy. It was a day or two after release day and I searched three whole large shopping centres (the kind with multiple department stores along with EB and JB) and the only copy to be found was one Xbox 360 version. So we ordered it online through JB and it arrived the next day.
There was no way I was going to let any of this happen with Bloodborne, so I made damn sure we pre-ordered and paid in full from EB so I didn’t have to go through any hassle. From my experiences, these days the online price is so little in difference (usually only ten or so dollars) that it’s so very much worth it to not have to wait, or stress out about finding a copy. Besides, I usually can make up that ten dollars when I forget to eat lunch on release day because I’m completely immersed in the game. 😀
Started the download for the handsome jack collection last night.
Checked it this morning and it had 8 hours to go.
Also played some hand of fate last night.
It is fun. You should play it.
Phew! I didn’t miss Pillars Page Eight!
I haven’t looked at anything at all about it, not even on their Kickstarter pitch page. I just threw my money at them and have been waiting patiently ever since. Apparently there’s rogues so I’ll probably be one. That’s all I know. It’s kind of exciting.
I am downloading it now. I imagine I’ll be playing it a lot over the weekend whilst Mr. Strange is hogging the TV and Bloodborne.
Speaking of Bloodborne, I’ve only played for about an hour, and that was on Wednesday. I was a good girl and got some work done yesterday after finishing Sword Art Online.
I heard Mr. Strange play a lot of it last night though, and it confirmed something that was niggling at me when I played that could be a problem.
It appears the enemies right at the start of the game talk. And beg for mercy. I am very much not okay with this! I am also deeply disturbed that Mr. Strange does not find it disturbing and just shrugged and continued merrily slaughtering them after I pointed it out. Edit: I obviously didn’t expect him to stop killing them, I was just a bit a stunned that he didn’t find it disturbing, and didn’t even want to think about the implications of that. He doesn’t want to know about the world he’s playing in, he just wants to kill anything that moves. D:Also, SAO late season spoilers:
I’d heard the second part was bad but really? It was bad enough that what started as a cool anime devolved into a love story, but then it got all rapey and incesty. Ugh. And every girl who meets Kirito falls in love with him? Ugh. Still enjoyed most of it, though.I wish I was not at work today because sweet cRPG goodness is calling me.
I am kicking past me because yesterday when I generated my code I had the pre-load window up and was about to start it, but had a phonecall and then forgot about it. I am a doofus.
Bloodborne:
I think the enemies at the start of Bloodborne (the human-y ones) think you’re a beast, given by comments I’ve overheard. That’s the problem, though isn’t it? They think. They’re not just mindless Hollowed people you’re putting out of their misery. They think. And I don’t have a reason for killing them other than they’re attacking me. They’re saying “Please”. It’s creepy.See, I thought they were saying ‘beast’, not ‘please’. Interesting. But definitely a bit disturbing. Makes me curious as to the mysteries of this place, and what role hunters truly have there. And yeah, second part of SAO took a nosedive in quality.
Holy shit, Borderlands: The Handsome Collection has an 8GB day one patch for PS4. Well that’s just fucking great, no Bloodborne and now no Borderlands till tomorrow.
http://www.playstationtrophies.org/news/news-15830-Borderlands–The-Handsome-Collection-Has-an-8GB-Day-One-Patch-on-PS4.html
There is some good news though, I think @dc posted about Broken Age act 2, but I don’t think he mentioned that it’s coming out on PS4 and Vita next month.
http://www.playstationtrophies.org/news/news-15824-Broken-Age-Coming-to-PS4—PS-Vita-Next-Month.html
Also, apparently f1 2015 is due out in June \o/
http://www.playstationtrophies.org/news/news-15831-F1-2015-Races-Onto-PlayStation-4-and-Xbox-One-in-June.html
I got the handsome jack collection as a download. Had it going all night still had 8 hours to go at 4:30 this morning.
Hope to play it tonight.
If I go out and grab it about lunch time hopefully the patch will be finished downloading when I get home from work about 9:30pm.
If Bloodborne doesn’t come today I’ll send you a message when I get home for some co-op shenaningans. I must warn you though I’m not all that great, and I don’t have a mic.
Also, @beardymcmuttonchops and @BDKIAF, thought you might like to join to give us a full team of four.
I’m playing a show tonight, so I won’t be home till later, but I’m always down for Borderlands co-op.
Awesome.
The mic I have is the one that came with the PS4 so it is crap.
Sounds like a plan.
http://www.kotaku.com.au/2015/03/talk-amongst-yourselves-320/comment-page-7/#comment-3289555 😛
Also, fingers crossed for Bloodborne action today!
Whoops, my bad. I’m doing well this week aren’t I 😛
Started BL2 again on XB1 last night. Great memories. Unfortunately couldn’t find any matches to join. Hopefully it picks up over the weekend. If anyone is keen to join me, please don’t hesitate!
Uuuugh. Woke up at 5am this morning to accompany my wife to Burwood early for the launch of Urban Decay at Mecca Maxima. We were in line from 6:45am though I left her at 7:30 to come to work. Since the store opened 15 minutes ago I assume she a has already sunk the GDP of Namibia into new eyeshadow palettes, assuming she wasn’t the lucky winner of the giveaway.
Today is going to be a loooong day and all I want to do is go home and play GTA. Or sleep. Or lie in bed and watch Netflix.
Wait…people line up for new make-up releases?!
They do when it’s an entire brand that’s coming to Australia for the first time, exclusively to this store.
There were massive lines outside the new Sephora store for weeks after the launch – people travel from interstate to visit it because it’s the only one in Australia and there’s a number of brands it carries exclusively.
That is weird to me. Sure it’s a new brand, but it’s make-up. There’s only so many colours in the world.
I think the pallettes my wife bought this morning are Naked 1, 2 and 3. All “nude” colours. I think each pallette has between 12 and 16 shades. And there are three of them. Apparently up to 48 shades are required to make it look like you aren’t wearing anything.
Urban Decay is HUGE. And it’s very pretty. And brands like it are supposedly really easy and good to use and pretty.
People who are really into makeup really highly recommend it and they probably don’t get the dragon age love 😉
I’ve got a friend in Canada who has spent more on makeup than I have on Transformers… 😐
Yikes! I love make-up, but beyond mascara and foundation I don’t really see a difference between brands besides more covetable packaging. But then I guess I might feel differently if I actually tried some of the more popular or expensive ones. 😛
Blehdbarn: no spoiler but spoiler tags anyway because no content (just mechanics comparison) discussed below, mainly This Is Why The Monsters Shall Remain Unhunted.
Three things that mean no more monster hunting:
1. Roll / dodge button in different location2. Command queue – in monster hunter, you mash your next command in order for it to happen the moment an animation finishes and the input window opens. In BB, one command gets queued to happen after the current animation. For instance, I want to hit then back dash, if I mash the dodge button for when the attack finishes, I end up dashing twice. Mental reprogramming required.
3. Context – monster hunter, you press your buttons, your things happen. Up to you to make them happen on the monster through positioning before you start the things. BB gets different actions with context. For instance, back dodge and attack in an empty area makes you roll back then swing where you stand. Back dodge and attack when targeted and in range of an enemy causes a back dash, then a dash back in to continue attacking the enemy. Looks awesome once you start pulling these things off, but more mental reprogramming necessary.
Edit: just coz
I preferred “Unhinged”. It felt appropriate. 😀
Damn autocorrect. It was a little more fitting than some autocorrects at least.
Pokemon Symphony coming to Sydney in November! I think it’s the only concert announced outside North America (so far). Covers music from every mainline game so far.
So there.
Might have to dust off the ol’ Caterpie costume 😛Want but difficult to justify a trip to Sydney just for that at this stage.
Happy old lady day @CookingMama!
I think I’ve decided on the design for @bdkiaf’s Harley Quinn thing, so I’ll be buying lots of red and black fabric and thread on the weekend. It’s gonna be a fun thing to make! 😀
What thing? A quilt? Or super secret project the was the cause of your secret trip to the amazon?
His prize in the Shane Kickstarter Giveaway. I’m calling it a “thing” because I haven’t disclosed what kind of sewn thing I’m making him.
And stop mentioning that Amazon thing…I don’t want to have to kill everyone who sees it. 😛
Bloodborne!
Let me start by saying I’ve played all previous ‘Souls’ games as far as the first boss. In Dark Souls, I technically never beat the Taurus Demon, he killed himself by jumping off the bridge.
Small Stones is using the axe (which I fell in love with at the launch event) and the hand pistol.
Launch day: I played for about 3 hours. I killed many enemies, I lost many echoes. The only thing I accomplished was upgrading to the gear sold by the vendor.Spoilers up to second boss:
Yesterday was more productive. I managed to finally open the shortcut near the lantern I’d been meaning to for ages. After hesitating for a bit, I decided to just take on the Cleric Beast. And I beat him on my first attempt (ok, technically second attempt, I half assed attempted him during the launch event the other night). Feeling pretty chuffed, I went and levelled up and then proceeded to get killed by the very next mob of enemies I encountered because I’m still trying to work out the timing for the shoot and stagger mechanic. I still haven’t got it down properly yet. I found my way into some sewers and explored there, cautiously taking out enemies as I went. I found a giant gopher looking thing (ok, I think it’s a boar) and decided not to attempt him yet. Killed a few more things, stocked up on items and made my way to the second boss. I got Father Whatshisface 2/3 dead before he went into his third form and I mistimed a roll and got destroyed. After that, I went and played Sentinels…
Oh, man, I’m so excited to play this game! \o/
Has your copy arrived yet?
Doesn’t seem to have.
Oh wow, no movement since Monday? :S
My condolences Shane.
Yeah, but I’ve had parcels delivered that still had that status, so we don’t know it’s not moving. 😛
#PILLARSPAGE8
Looks like the embargo is lifted and it looks like we have a winner on our hands
This pleases me greatly.
Think I’m going to have to play it late tonight, sleep is for the weak anyway.
All the reviews I’ve seen have praised it for doing exactly what it set out to be and look damn good at the same time.
Do you see that game publishers? That’s what happens when Obsidian is given enough time to complete their games and are not hampered by contractual time obligations.
Yes!
I’ve loved Obsidian games, and have disliked the reputation they got for producing unfinished and/or buggy games due to poor handling by publishers with unrealistic deadlines, working on sequels for other companies using their engines.
I made the mistake of reading Ready Player One before going to bed and it was after 1 before I got to sleep. Oh well, as @redartifice says, sleep is for the weak anyway.
*nods* I am sage-like in my wisdom.
Actually, according to my new Mi band, I slept for 7 hours and 27 minutes last night
I slept for about the same, or maybe even longer. Perks of not having a job I guess.
I slept a LOT when I was unemployed.
Slept and played Skyrim.
WEAK!
I need to be awake enough to go to the movies tonight, I’m seeing Inherent Vice
4 hours 31 minutes for me, according to my Fitbit. My fault for going to bed late when I knew I was getting up at 5. Only two periods of restlessness though, which is a lot better than I’ve been doing the rest of the week. I think it’s taken me time to adjust to a normal sleeping patter since I was on leave last week and mostly slept like a brick between the hours of 5am and midday, knowing I didn’t have to get up for anything in particular.
I presume it works by detecting when you toss and turn. Apparently I was out like a light between 3:57 and 5:51
Man, feels good to get some good Kickstarter news for a change. Pillars sounds like it’s gone great, one of my current backings is chewing through stretch goals rapidly, and finally getting some news on the Numenera box. I don’t want to lie, the cloth map for Numenera looks incredible and I am a massive sucker for maps in games. Also collected my Night Witches backing a couple of days ago which was good but I’m kinda disappointed in the final product. A non-A4 sized rulebook just feels weird to me.
Also Undad is ahead of schedule! \o/
Other than CLANG I’ve done pretty well out of Kickstarters. couple of delays here and there, but I don’t think there’s a single one (outside of CLANG) that hasn’t delivered something.
Backing this one atm: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/fowers/burgle-bros-a-cooperative-heist-boardgame
I haven’t backed any board games yet because I generally don’t really want to collect board games and RPGs. That said, a friend of mine backed Viticulture a while back which is a great Agricola-esque winemaking game. There was another Race to the Galaxy style of game that they backed which was pretty fun.
I hung out with a few people last night and we played Batman version of Love Letter which was filled with puns. Absolutely battered, if you will.
Race for the Galaxy is great, really great.
In terms of board games, I’ve received 3, of which 2 are quite good and the third after playing it is not my taste. I’ve got two coming (incl Burgle Bros)
I have no idea why you’d Batman up love letter, as “Love Notes” is not what I’d really associate with Batman!
The biggest change with Batman Love Letter is that if you use the #1 Guardsman card (which is Batman) to correctly guess a villain (which is any card aside from #4 Priestess which is now Robin), you get one point. First person to seven points wins. So you can win the entire game without winning a round if you are good at guessing.
Also the Princess is now the Joker. 😛
I’ve backed 7 things on Kickstarter and I guess overall it’s positive but my engagement seems to drop off once they have my money. I wish things turned around faster, really.
1) The Long Dark: Apparently it’s quite good, but I wouldn’t know because I haven’t bothered to play it. I got my steam key and installed it, and that’s where the story ends for now.
2) Ninja Pizza Girl: I keep getting updates about the beta being available on PC and Linus but all I care about is that it’s apparently going to release on Xbox One. I’ll await the day I’m told to fill out a survey to get my code, or something.
3) Reading Rainbow: I backed it for like $5 to get the warm fuzzies. I barely even skim the updates.
4) Fly the Colour Fantastica: A comic collection by some local artists including a friend of mine. I have the comic in pdf format and await receipt of my special edition book which officially launched earlier this month but the shipping of books was delayed to April – no biggie.
5) Exploding Kittens: apparently they’re doing a final playtest and will ship the final products in a couple months. Hooray. This is my most recent backing and seems to be the one with the fastest turnaround time to date.
6) Table Titans volume 1: this was supposed to ship September last year. The updates (which happen every 2-3 months instead of fortnightly like they promised) mostly consist of “you guys gave us SO MUCH MONEY that we want to make it super nice for you and that’s why it’s taking so long to negotiate with printers for the best deal”. I think they finally found a printer last week so I might see the book in a month or two.
7) Undad: some local artist’s graphic novel. It seems promising and I hear that the writer was nominated for some kind of award, so I assume it will be some kind of picaresque epic that will rival Shakespeare.
7) Apparently, Undad got the Mrs Shane Stamp Of Approval, which none of his other books have gotten yet. Take from that what you will.
That is an exceedingly rare award, I don’t think I’ve heard of a single other publication that has won it.
Rare enough to re-engage your interest?
Oh absolutely, I have extremely high expectations. Hope that doesn’t put too much pressure on the creator!
I already have your money, so… no pressure at all 😛
Oh great, that means I won’t like it. 😛
Edit: Err…just realised that sounded like I was saying Mrs. Shane has bad taste! Not my intention! I was just referring to the fact I liked your other stuff, so if this was the only one to be approved of, then I probably wouldn’t like it. Dammit, there’s no way this doesn’t sound bad, is there? 😛
None whatsoever.
Digging in a little further, I’ve backed 35 projects. Of those, only two failed to meet its funding goal (Sorry @shane, one was yours, and James Flamestar the other)
-Started with Double Fine Adventure (Half delivered atm, but soon!)
-Shadowrun returns, Broken Sword, Sir You are Being Hunted, Shadowrun Online (sort of), Pillars have all delivered
– Numenera and The Strange have delivered in spades
– 99% Invisible still makes me happy
– Couple of early one off “impulse backs” have all delivered (To be or not to be, Book Riot, Artisan Dice, Benign Kingdom, Amanda Palmer, Veronica Mars Movie, Locus Archive, Athena’s Daughters, Nightmare Magazine)
– Metro 7 came
– Undad is in progress
– Clang went down in flames
– I’ve received four board games, the production quality of all of which has been pretty good
– Occ the Skeptical Caveman took for fucking ever but is being released at the moment
– I’m waiting for Torment, 2 board games, Ninja Pizza Girl, Amplitude and one book
That’s a pretty good hit rate, so overall I’m pretty happy. Maybe I’m just picking popular projects. If I look at starred projects, there’s 14 that I was watching and chose not to back
I think I’ve only starred 3 projects as I planned to back them closer to the end date if I had the funds available and in all three cases I did back them because a) I could afford to, and b) they had already passed their goal anyway.
I dislike the uncertainty around knowing if the project will be backed or not, purely because I want to know 100% if money will be taken from my account rather than a chance it won’t be. I’m weird.
I never kickstart something I couldn’t afford
For me, it’s all money that I’m happy to throw in a hole and never see again- I back low, and if wose come to worse I’m not out that much.
The only KS where I’ve spent more than $50 were the two Monte Cook ones, and I always knew they’d be a sure purchase.
Oh, I never kickstart something I can’t afford, I just like to do it as close to the date as possible to ensure that I know when the money is coming out and I don’t accidentally allocate it to something else.
The most I have ever gone was for Massive Chalice and went pretty high on that one.
But double fine (DOUBLE FIIIIIIIIIIIIINEEEEEEEEEE!!!) and they had a bloodline tier and Mrs Tigs was either pregnant or we were trying at the time so it made sense to us.
Aw man, the failure of the Flamestar project still stings. Really wanted that one to work out.
I was disappointed to hear about Clang. Not that I’d backed it, I hadn’t heard of it til after the Kickstarter, but it seemed cool.
I haven’t done many Kickstarters. Mainly VR stuff, and Shane’s things. Oculus Rift turned out fine, STEM has had delays and a few little configuration changes, but what we’re getting now is pretty much better than what it was going to be before so I’m fine with that. Was super disappointed Tactical Haptics didn’t make their funding goal, but at least they’re still puttering along and making improvements so hopefully I’ll be able to get my hands on one someday.
I don’t know why but I don’t really feel inclined to back any game projects, I’m fine with jumping on board for physical things but games I’ll just wait it out and check them out once they’ve been released.
I’ve certainly shifted away from computer game based ones a bit. Backed Amplitude, but that one needed the cash for a while so I’m still pretty happy.
Morning all, long time no TAY.
Bloodborne, wow, Bloodborne.
I’ve played the previous Dark Souls games, did quite well in the first one, rarely died, defeated about 6-8 bosses, I was going strong… and absolutely hated every moment of it. Maybe hated is a bit harsh a term, however I certainly did not get any real enjoyment out of the game. I’ve tried coming back to it and slogging through it and all the other methods many advised me to try and help me reach “That Moment” when you suddenly fall for it.
Never happened.
As for Dark Souls 2, “hated it” doesn’t even come close to my true feeling for this game. Forced myself to the 3 or 4 bonfire then just turned it off and have never played it again. Worst $10 I ever spent.
So, due to some sort of insanity, I decided buying Bloodborne would be a good idea.
BEST IDEA EVER!!!
I am absolutely loving this game, and I have no idea why. As everyone knows it’s the “spiritual successor” to Dark Souls so it plays so much like it, but for some reason all the little changes in combat and design have worked in a way that I am enjoying every second of this experience.
Even when dying (a lot), there is no anger, no frustration, I actually get a grin on my face AND ENJOY IT MORE?!?
I don’t know what is going on, I don’t know why I am loving this so much, and frankly, I don’t really care. So I just want to say to those out there that hated the Souls games, I think there might be one or two of us, don’t judge Bloodborne by past experience because this game manages to be so similar, yet somehow different enough that I am loving it.
BLOODBORNE!
@dc
It’s because it’s more of a spiritual successor to Demon’s Souls than Dark Souls.
Indeed.
I’ve got so many games to play through, but a reply of Demon’s Souls is definitely on the cards. Maybe even a platinum run.
Well, the postie just came, no Bloodborne for Monkey this weekend :'(
At this rate I’ll get my hands on a copy of Dark Souls II: Scholar Of The First Sin before Bloodborne comes.
Aw man, sorry to hear that.
The booest of urns.
So how about that Monster Hunter, huh? Guys?
…guys?
See previous page.
I can’t git gud at both at the same time.
Stupid armours keep teasing me with skills they don’t actually activate, and then I don’t have the materials (nor access to them) for the gems to be able to tick them over.
Is that a boss in Bloodborne?
I might be hunting tonight, will let you know
I’m still chipping away at it, almost at HR100 and doing the weird deciphering thing for more quests.
So I took the day off; Pillars just downloaded and I can see where the rest of my afternoon is going to go =P BAHAHAHAH CAN’T WAIT!!
I got pillars aswell 😮 and Blood Borne… and DA:I DLC… you just can’t win with these timings
lol I have a feeling wow isn’t going to see much playtime this weekend =P might call the raid tomorrow as only 5 peeps can show up!
I expect live updates.
I’ve already been bugging @dc about whether he’s seen a Pillar yet.
Surely that’s a bit personal…
Hey, it’s the 21st century, stop being a prude.
So I’ve gone with my usual bread and butter with RPG’s which is a wizard/mage; spent about half an hour in customization but that’s probably only cos I’ve spent tens of hours in other RPG character creation tools so it was very easy to get into this one; practically identical in format and result to Baldur’s and Icewind Dale. Combat’s the same as well and though so far being a wizard feels horribly underpowered =P That said this how it always is until you get a few levels under you.
Spoiler below for a kind of new mechanic; don’t click if you want to keep the game completely new however you’ll see the mechanic in play within the first 20-30min.
There is one notable change that’s taking some getting used to; you can only rest between combat if you have “camping supplies”; and you can only use spells between rests as a wizard until you level up so it really forces you to be conservative with your spell casts which. So far I kind of like it =]Sounds like they are going more for the PnP RPG feel. Atleast in regards to that mechanic.
Mine’s at 61%. I should probably do something productive while I’m waiting.
Get ready to lose the afternoon strange =P
Do you make a single character or a party. Looks liek a single character and then you get NPCs to join. Is that right
Yeah a single character; and more join.
Got about an hour of Bloodborne in before Destiny reset last night. After struggling for twenty minutes with the character creator, and seeing my character growing more and more disfigured the more I tried to fix her face… I gave her some dark glasses to hide behind and was on my way. An artist with the character creator, I am not. 😛
Chose the pimp cane, and for the first six or so deaths I think I spent as much time in loading screens as I did playing. Fought a big dude with a cleaver/axe/thing, and kept getting cornered and trying to dodge past short-yet-impassable obstacles. Then the combat kinda clicked. I lured him to a more open area. I dodged, countered, tossed molotovs at his face… Victory! I returned victorious to the hunter’s dream, to find someone I can only assume to be my mentor, for this grizzled old man also wields an awesome cane. Teach me your ways, oh pimp master! So, yea, as someone who played Dark Souls games by hitting things that bounced off the largest shield I could find, with the largest sword I could find, it’s taking a little while to get the hang of Bloodborne’s frenetic combat. I’m still getting used to the idea that risks can pay off, and that taking a small hit can allow you to take advantage of a major opening.
Destiny reset on a Thursday? What is this madness?
I haven’t seen Xur for 3 weeks. Bet he’s had Gjallarhorn.
Daily reset – need them bounties for… well, I’m sure I need them for something. 😛 Still have about four exotic helms needing XP. And no Gjally from Xur yet; he had Hard Light last week, tho – a bit of fun, but generally useless. Kinda hoping for Ruin Wings or No Backup Plans this week so I can be one step closer to completing my gear collection.
Fair enough. I’ll probably play a bit on saturday night. I’m happy just dipping in and out at the mo, I’ll probably be in lots when House of Wolves releases.
…and you MAY have noticed that I’m enjoying Elite. 🙂
I really want to get into Elite properly, but… Chronos is a strict bastard. I feel it’ll just be a weekend thing for me until I can get a few other games off my plate.
My main goals in Destiny have been nightfalls and weeklies on all characters, and jumping on thereafter hoping for a raid. Once I get my two last pieces of Crota gear, I’ll probably just drop back to weeklies and nightfalls until HoW; that’ll free up all but one or two evenings for other games, which will be nice.
I think I’m just resigned to not hitting 32 ’til HoW.
Last 3 weeks I think Xur has had Icebreaker (3 weeks ago) and Hard Light (last week). You haven’t missed Gjallarhorn, not that anyone thinks he’ll EVER sell good ol’ Gjally. Then again, Hard Light was never “officially” in Xur’s rotation either.
I’d have bought Hard Light, just because.
I did buy an Icebreaker for each char, and i have a decent scout rifle, murmur, a void fusion, dragon’s breath and super good advice on all 3 too. Means most of the time I don’t have to do much swapping to pick up and play, and I just move one or two weapons that I’m buffing over.
still really enjoy it, just felt like a break.
Bro, I miss our Destiny time together.
Just FYI.
Me too, mate. You still playing? I don’t see you on much.
On and off.
We kinda dropped off after the DLC lost it’s shine.
Keen to see what House of Wolves has in store, though.
OH BABY! Got told Bloodborne came in the post today…. Tmrw I will buy a PS4!
Trying to fit in on Friday 😛
I’ve been downloading Pillars Of Eternity all morning, and using my PS4 to watch Fate/Zero on Netflix as well for some of it. It was working great. And then I decided to switch to Foxtel (I still have a month left of the good deal I got) so I could watch something like a cooking or DIY show while doing some hand quilting, and it was unwatchable. I wonder what Netflix are doing differently that makes it work that much better?
Who is your ISP?
A lot of ISPs are serving from Netflix boxes they’ve installed into their networks
Ah. We’re with Iinet.
Gizmodo had a good write-up on how they achieve it the other week: http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2015/03/building-netflix-australia-how-netflix-is-gearing-up-for-the-land-down-under/
I saw someone using their iPad for foxtel Go on the train this morning. I was astonished that any mobile service could sustain a streaming video service – let alone the data caps: I barely risk even showing someone a five minute youtube clip on my phone unless I’m connected to wifi.
I believe foxtel go is unmetered on all Telstra networks
Really behind on TAFE work. It’s incredibly worrisome. I really only have myself to blame. Every week I’d leave TAFE telling myself that I needed to take the course more seriously, but I’d forget by the time I caught my train.
It doesn’t help that a lecturer decided to push forward a test three weeks even though no one in the class was ready. The extra 3 weeks wouldn’t have helped me, but it’s still annoying.
I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place with my commitments. This time last year, I was a nervous wreck that was too scared to catch the bus. I’ve come a long way since then, but every day is a battle. I’ve focused more on my mental health than my studies, and that may have been the wrong decision.
I’m not sure how to approach this at all. I can’t get the message across to my brain to focus on TAFE outside of TAFE. I screwed up.
/vent
Focusing on mental health wasn’t a wrong decision. There’s always a chance for studies, but the sooner you come to grips with your mental health, the better your life will be, and the better you’ll be able to utilise those chances.
If you don’t want to take some time off from studying while you adjust, maybe you could stay on the TAFE premises a bit longer than just for your classes to help you focus on your TAFe studies?
This could be good advice if you can swing it into your schedule. Take a break after your classes, clear your mind then spend an hour at the library reviewing what you just did or catching up on your work.
Lock it in as TAFE time, so you are not having to switch back to learning mode when you are at home.
I already do that. The library shits before my classes even finish, so I have to come to TAFE on my free days. It’s the only way for me to do any kind of homework or study.
That little blue Power symbol next to my username at the top of the page is bothering me. Someone put back the little pink K.
So it’s not enough that Bloodborne hasn’t come today, I check the tracking on my first Loot Crate and it entered the country on Monday and there’s been no updates since, and to top it all off I’ve been checking my bank account all day and my pay still hasn’t gone through. Today sucks big fat Donkey Dicks.
Apparently you can’t keep track of all the good deals. Rayman Legends (PS4) is apparently $10 at Big W right now, but mine is out of stock. I went around to EB and JB to see if I could scam a price-match out of them, but neither of them have any new copies of the game either. Ratso.
Wasn’t Raymand Legends a PS+ freebie awhile back? I know it was an Xbox One Games with Gold bonus this month, I was under the impression PS+ had already had it.
Must have missed it. I’ve only had the console (and PS+) since Christmas 😛
Seems I was wrong anyway!
Legends is $22.95 on PSN, which is not as good a price as $10, but still totally worth every cent, fantastic game.
Yep, I’m considering it. I’ll probably only play it co-op when my bro comes around (which isn’t often, only a couple of times a year usually), but we really enjoyed Rayman Origins together.
Rayman Origins for the Vita was, but I don’t think Legends was (unless I missed it).
Ah, that’s probably it. I think Origins was also a 360 games with gold bonus awhile back as well. Or some Rayman game was.
Pillars!
I went with an Orlan Druid just to try it out, because as usual in an RPG like this I’ll most likely restart with my “proper” character once I’ve got a handle on how it all works. But then just as it got to the part at the stream where the story thing popped up about the guy who was supposed to be getting the water lurching towards us, it crashed. Grr. But even before that, it was all a bit slow as well. Not sure my laptop can handle it properly.Take it out of full screen mode and reduce the resolution as low as it will go; this should ease the load on your PC.
Spoiler for various little mechanical hints for the game –
How’re you finding the combat? =D And I can’t re-iterate how important exploring is in this game and also heads up you will come across some fights where you should consider running; also quick save often =P Make sure to stockpile all the items you collect in your stash even from the start cos you can sell them in bulk later and have a nice little fortune to give you a step up as you start. You can ctrl+click items in your inventory to select multiple items at once for organizing with ease.I shouldn’t have gone to that Bloodborne launch event the other night. I’ve been wanting to play Bloodborne ever since.
Maybe I should take this opportunity to finally get around to playing Dark Souls 1 and just pretend I’m playing Bloodborne.
Mrs Shane just let me know that the T-shirt has arrived. Thanks, man! I’ll shoot you some compensation in the form of a smile and postage money shortly.
No! 🙂
Fine. No smile, then.
Haha. But really, you don’t have to send me any money. It was only 6 bucks or something to post it.
You did give me a lot of your books for free a while back 😛
Well, regardless of what ends up happening, or what it does to our friendship, thanks!
“Pow and Shane would never speak to each other again.”

I refuse until the PS4 Slim comes out!
You may not have to wait long.
http://wccftech.com/ps4-slim-announced-e3-2015-improved-hardware/
…. Gods this is bad… I’m 4 hours in to Pillars of Eternity and I haven’t even left the first town yet!! >.< There’s just so many little things to explore and do and every corner of the town I keep exploring pops up another quest! And I don’t mean side quest like those shittly little gotta catch em all ones from DA:I, a proper true blue RPG side quest!! Gimme mountain lions in basements dammit! =P
Edit: Basically this translates into me playing nothing else for the next 6 months.
Turns out I’m not going to the movies until nine.
GIVES ME AN HOUR OR SO OF PILLARS TIME YEAH
So just enough time to create a character? =P
I can live with that.
Damn I just had the most epic battle; 3 of my party vs 4 monsters i’m usually only able to kill one at a time. I actually had to bait them into an ambush where two of my mages laid in wait and pelted all 4 of those monsters with 2 flamethrower spells and we barely managed to pull through even after that =P Mostly cos I couldn’t flamethrower again due to friendly fire =,=
Just a mechanics question, if your main character goes down in a fight is it game over, or only if they all go down?
As long as one party member fights on you’re fine; however there’s two bars to watch out for; one is endurance which is resets after each combat; and the other is health which only resets when you go to an inn or light a campfire. With regards to endurance the battle goes on as long as one person in the party has endurance left; however with regards to health if your main character loses all his health (only done if you get knocked out in a number of fights and dont rest afterwards) you lose the fight. So a mix of both in a way.
Hmm. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-03-26-valve-approved-half-life-2-update-headed-to-steam
It’s only a little upgrade, but this is tempting me to jump into Half Life 2 for a… third playthrough? Might be fourth. I’ve definitely played through Ep 2 at least 3 times, but I dunno about the main game…
Never played it.
Oh man, it’s so good. So good.
Guns lack impact, movement is weird and floaty, and the explosions sound like… err, wet noodles. But visually it’s held up damn well (particularly episode 2), the strategy to combat is still great, and its storytelling is really well done. Episode 2 has one of the most powerful endings of any game I’ve played, it’s brutal(I love Episode 2, it’s surprisingly close to being the perfect game for me).
I cannot recommend Half Life 2 enough (that said, I know lots of people who were quite meh to it, as well as a few who straight up disliked it, so it’s definitely not for everyone).
Had to up vote only due to your comment
I enjoyed half life 2.
I still have the 5 disc’s that it came on when it first came out.
So I got an email from work today, which was more of a newsletter than anything. I promptly deleted it as per normal cos meh.. several seconds later one of my colleagues asks if any of us have signed up for free netflix.. huh?! Was in the newsletter! Doh!
Luckily he could forward me the link.. Turns out cos I’m an employee, and I have a post paid phone, I get 3 months of free Netflix! I had zero intention of signing up at this point, cos I have other priorities, but free for 3 months..I’ll take that!
Now that is awesome.
I take it you will read each newsletter now?
haha well i dunno about reading thoroughly, but I certainly will give it a scan in future 😉
You never know might have free stuff every month
It’s funny how many Foxtel returns I have picked up this week
Is it?
Is it really?
Loving Pillars of Eternity. I might’ve played for eight hours accidentally. D:
Ugh…
That being said, Rubber is an amazing film.
It really is.
@greenius @powalen @gutsoup @beavwa bit of the ol monster hunter tonight?
Possibly, what rank are you at now? I’m deciphering things in Special G now 🙂
I’m still bronze crown, been helping the others get their ranks up and doing guild quests. It’s really hard to get people to do your urgents in special G
I think I’m okay tonight! Not really feeling it!
Another night though, definitely. I’ve got 5 hours worth of train trips to do this weekend so hopefully I can polish off the last of Caravan 10 and start towards some better armour before we play next.
Probably going to be a bit late by the time I get home, sorry.
I have an assignment due on Monday at midnight that I’ve barely started.
My toddler has a cold.
My wife is exhausted after a big week at work.
The house is a mess.
But I signed up for a month free Netflix.
PRIORITIES!!!
Insert So at least I have that going for me, which is nice meme here.
Insert I have made a huge mistake meme here.
Insert oh my god they have ROUND THE TWIST! NETFLIX HAS THE ENTIRE BACK CATALOGUE OF ROUND THE TWIST! NOSTALGIA TRIP HERE I COME!
Have you ever, ever felt like this?
As a kid, I didn’t realise it was a legal adaption, so I thought the producers shamelessly ripped off the source material and I refused to watch it in protest.
What have I done with my life.
Saved yourself for a far more satisfying trip down memory lane in your later years?
Pizzza, beer and Robocop. Sounds like a pretty good way to celebrate my 36th birthday.
Yo.
Happy birthday.
Cool.
Happy birthday, my friend! Hope the year treats you amazing!
OOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That sounds like an amazing birthday night. Maybe I’ll do similar when I’m that old, you know in all those
decadesyearsmonths timeAh, but the real question is:
Original Robocop, or reboot Robocop?
Also with the birthday happiness wishing.
I have enjoyed watching both.
Although last time I watched the original was going 24 years ago
Thank you!
It was the new one, we watched it on Netflix. But the old one was there too.
Happy birthday CookingMama. Hope you have had an awesome day.
Hi gang, Dan here.
I don’t have net access very much at my new job but I am still alive.
More so than ever.
How good is Bloodborne?
I long for those sweet hours I’d waste reading all of your writings and cherry picking the ones I could get into an e-fight with or promote my podcast Dan and Karl’s Zeitgeist available every Friday morning, 9:30am at http://dankarlszeitgeist.com
Anyway, just dropping in to say hey and pad out the remainder of my shift.
What’s going on with you then?
Love,
Dan
Hey Dan, Blaghs here.
As per usual, there’s actually nothing of interest to report in my life, it seems like I’m in a never ending spiral of nothing happening, but hey, at least I’m paid a pittance for said spiral.
While I’m usually ready to listen to your podcast, Dan and Karl’s Zeitgeist (which the past few weeks appeared at 10:30am, due to varying timezones) I’m afraid I didn’t listen to it today, due to issues with my phone. Take solace in the knowledge that I will listen to it next week at work, which should bring your listenership up to three, though at least two of us are only listening for the HotRoss Report.
Oh, and as a surprise to virtually nobody, Bloodborne is quite excellent, even if I am utterly rubbish at it.
Spite,
Blaghs.
You’re my least favourite.
Hey, at least that means that you know who I am, so I’ll take that as a victory.
So, I just noticed that I’ve logged 73 hours in ArtRage 4…
Huh…
And like any true artist, you have nothing to show for it! Congratulations sire! You have made it!! 😉
The first thing I died to in Dark Souls was a cliff.
I mean, uh, Bloodborne. I’m playing Bloodborne. Not Dark Souls 1. Nope.
The first thing I died to in Dark Souls was a hollow soldier in the asylum. SCRUB MODE ENGAGE!
Ugh socialising 😛
You poor thing!
I wanted to go home at like 9:30 like the old man I am and they were all “HAHAHA NO >:|” :'(
Apparently there’s more socialising next week. SEND HELP
Just got an email from Harmonix to do another survey, I noticed there’s a distinct lack of keyboard. Does that mean they’re dropping it? I guess we’ll find out when it releases.
Yeah, it’s been mentioned in multiple places they’re dropping the keyboard.
Fair enough, must have missed it.
Father son day today, gonna go to Toyworld, then McDonalds for lunch, then to watch Shaun The Sheep: The Movie.
That’s a nice thing for your dad to to 😉
dad joke about dad! lol and it’s not even page 6! well played!
Meta-dad jokes
Signed up for Netflix last night, because my resolve faltered, and now I face a new problem.
Analysis paralysis. It’s like staring at my steam library, but for TV shows and movies and whatnot.
Just watch Kimmy Schmidt! And then when that’s done, re-watch The IT Crowd!
But once that’s done… oh god I don’t know what to do 🙁
I’ve watched some Kimmy Schmidt, it’s alright. Had to turn it off during the dinner party episode at one point, too much cringe.
I’ve resorted to rewatching Doctor Who, because I’m rad.
I highly recommend Godzilla: Final Wars if you’ve never seen it on SBS.
Rate a bunch of things you know and then just start watching the suggestions that pop up near the top of the page. It’s working alright for me.
The list of recommendations was too long! I hate everything forever!
Downton Abbey.
Carmageddon: Reincarnation time! \o/
You played much of it yet?
About 4 hours… :\
ahhh I finished it a while ago. Unlocked all the cars, but nowhere near found all the smelly bushes. Also haven’t gone back and done all the different wins in the classic events yet. So great though1
@jocon @freeze @transientmind
I know you guys are travelling but if any of you logs on and checks TAY could you let jo know that one of our raiders “musashi” is in tokyo and he wanted to check in to see if you guys wanted to be shown around =]
@freezespreston
Nifty. I’ll bring it up. We’ve not got as far as Tokyo yet but it’s not far away.
We’ll be in Tokyo 1st April and he says he is interested.
Sure, would be cool to.meet the guy.
I’ll be free the arvo of the 1st and the 3rd. How should I contact him?
@dc @strange @redartifice how’re you guys finding pillars so far?? I finally gave in and made a second companion from scratch cos my team was sorely lacking in melee tanks =[
I made myself a tank ASAP just for a damage sponge.
I’m still in Gilded Vale, in the temple
I haven’t gone back to it since the crash. Too busy!
There’s a tank in the first town. =P
Yeah, I found him. now DOUBLE TANKING
Yeah you need at least two tanks to block off 4-6 enemies (6 once you level up certain class passives)
I love it. 25 hours in and hooked on the story. And the questing. So much questing.
Soooo…. I’ve just done something crazy and impulsive and expensive… I’m flying to Melbourne tomorrow to see the world cup final. Yay! But, well, I don’t have anywhere to stay tomorrow night.
I don’t suppose anybody on here would have a place for me to crash, given that I would arrive late (after the cricket) and leave very early to head to Melbourne airport the next day?
No? Crap.
Sorry, I don’t have any room =(
I would help if I could sorry bats.
Thanks 🙂 Apparently my cousin lives in Glenroy, which is 15 minutes from tullamarine. Not confirmed yet but could be perfect.
http://www.taytags.com
Or I can do this.
@beavwa @budgieishere @chuloopa @coldcamv @crazyguy1990 @f4ction @greenius @jordi @mad_danny @negativezero @pixel_the_ferret_viking @scree @smurfydog @tech_knight @tigerion @tofu @trikeabout @zetrox2k
But all I can do.
Hope it helps.
I would but I live in Dromana which is ages away from the city and even further from the airport sorry dude
Yo. Still looking for something? We’re about 20 from the airport and 10 from the train station.
You are a legend – thanks for helping out!
Normally no problem (also about 15 mins from airport) but unfortunately cannot this time as the Other Half has stinking cold. 🙁
Hope you got sorted with your cousin. Enjoy the match!
Hey!
#D
*burp*
I might not speak much Japanese… But few languages are more universal than buying a round of drinks for the bar.
Kyoto fucking rocks. These guys? These guys man.
Man, Netflix is great. My Wii U’s probably just going to live out the rest of its life as a Netflix box from here on out (there’s not much else to do with it. Possibly won’t be much else other than new Xenoblade, depending on Zelda’s fate :S) but that’s okay!
$12 a month, no worrying about download limits, no buffering (although that might just be cos of my awesome speeds), and most importantly that picture quality which is amazing. I don’t see myself giving it up any time soon.
I tried Presto. It’s complete garbage, just like Foxtel Go. Stan is pretty good, but no console support and Netflix has a lot more stuff that I like. So yeah. Glad it finally made its way down here!
That compatibility. Wii U and Windows Phone 8 on day one. I know they had an advantage in that area but I feel like the competition will never get around to Wii U even though the console is perfect for it.
Been playing the Panetside 2 beta a bit today (for PS4).
Overall it’s feeling like a pretty solid port, but I dunno, I was expecting it to take a bit more advantage of the PS4s features and hardware.
Still in beta though, but it feels like there is still a lot of tweaking before it’s read for launch.
Still really enjoyable though!
Except they nerfed my mighty mighty rocket launcher since last time I played 🙁
You know, the one that used to shoot 3 high powered homing rockets, but now shoots 6 weak dumb fired rockets instead…
LAAAAAAAME…
So i clicked some weird Russian words and believe i have managed to create an ru.4game account and signup for the halo online beta 😀
In actual fact, you’ve married a Russian bride. 😀
But seriously, congrats. \o/
Halo online?
Yep.
Wrestlemania 31 is on tomorrow…
…I feel nothing… :\
I’m waiting to see how the current Championship Reign comes to an end.
Hawwww. hawwwwww.
I was playing Wind Waker this morning and after more than a decade of loving the game the penny finally dropped – there are no chickens, they evolved into pigs like the Zora evolved into the Rito! Maybe it’s just the hangover but my mind is seriously blown by this realisation.
Finding
Vicar Ameliaextremely brutal. Definitely not my strong suit when it comes to Souls bosses. The load times are killing me (as I get quite agitated with it and then rush, then die) and the blood vials as a consumable is really getting on my nerves, easily the biggest misstep of the game IMO. So I haven’t been able to play for much more than an hour or so at a time before throwing my controller in frustration. God I hope they can fix the load times. We’ve won the Cricket World Cup! \o/
