Just a quick reminder that the Australian-made documentary GameLoading: Rise of the Indies is out today. It’s a long time in the making, surviving two Kickstarters, multiple overseas trips and more interviews than could count, but you can watch it right now.
Director Lester Francois quit his job to make this documentary and alongside Anna Brady visited 11 different cities in five different countries across a three month period in an attempt to capture what is interesting and unique about the indie games sub-culture.
The end result is well worth watching.
I’m guessing buying the movie direct from the GameLoading website is the easiest way to reward the creators of Rise of the Indies, but it’s also available on Steam if you’d prefer to pick it up there.
Actually the movie is available on just about every format imaginable: Xbox Video, the PlayStation Network, the Humble Store, iTunes. Take your pick, but if you have any interest in games development at all, give it a gander.

Still haven’t even seen King Of Kong yet.
Pink hair a requirement?
Oh yeah, I backed this, should probably watch haha.
TBH, the vast majority of indie games are trash, there are some absolute gems out there, but that is the minority, I’m a little bemused by all these indie devs and documentaries coming out talking about how indie devs are saving the industry etc. They aren’t saving anything, they are just enhancing what is already there, and in someways very much enhancing, but triple A devs still make some excellent games. It seems like there is a subculture of “hipster gamers” that are attempting to cause a divide in the gaming world by claiming that indie games are the be all and end all, and you’re a CoD jock moron if you don’t agree.
P.S. How did Zoe Quinn get in this? Like seriously, Depression Quest is a really bad game. All the GamerGate shit aside, she hardly deserves a doco spot on indie game development when she has made one game, that was poorly received. Not exactly what I would call a driving force of the industry. it’s obvious the only reason she is in this is due to all the harassment she has received, which doesn’t entitle her to special treatment, sympathies yes, but special treatment… No.
Nice man you’ve got there. What’s he made of? Straw, eh. Nice.
Haha, oh man. All the devs in that trailer and it is very important that you dedicate almost half your post to explaining why Ms Quinn is undeserving.
If she is so not special, why on earth does GG obsess so much?
Crazy idea here, but I am pretty sure that the people making the documentary wanted to make it, like, good. Some childish rationalisation that she is only there because she is getting “special treatment” is about twisting a narrative in your head to fit your existing bias.
Drinking game:
Have a drink every time some white person with either an awful hair cut or non-natural hair colour talks.
Enjoy your alcohol poisoning!
Great!
Can’t wait to torrent this!
