Five Nights at Freddy’s? A major motion picture? Oh how far we’ve come.
The Hollywood Reporter reports (Hollywoodly) that Freddy Fazbear and his horrifying animatronic pals are headed to the big screen. Warner Bros is heading up the production. It will be produced by Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment (Run All Night, The Ring, The Grudge), along with Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg of KatzSmith Productions (both of whom are working on a Beetlejuice sequel). They have put the project out to writers.
It sounds like Five Nights at Freddy’s creator Scott Cawthon will be involved in some capacity if this thing actually gets off the ground. Check out these totally enthused and not at all vomited from the dead-eyed press release machine quotes:
“We’re looking forward to working with Scott to make an insane, terrifying and weirdly adorable movie,” said Grahame-Smith.
“The story really lends itself to being a movie and it taps into a largely unexplored niche of horror that a lot of people will be able to relate to,” said Cawthon.
So that’s… unexpected. Except it’s really not. Five Nights at Freddy’s has gone from a Steam Greenlight mad science experiment to a nationwide sensation with a million-billion clones. Of course a major movie studio would latch onto what could maybe possibly potentially be its next horror mega-hit. And hey, lots of people watch other people play the game on YouTube anyway. Maybe this will just be a Let’s Play with ungodly high production values.
Then again, video game movies are famously good at ending up in Hollywood purgatory, which is often functionally equivalent to Hollywood hell. I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see. Probably double-check that your lights are working.

It’s a shame this will likely just end up as some generic ‘scary’ movie full of nothing but jump scares.
I don’t know. There is enough buried back story that could make it into a passable B grade horror with plenty of jump scares. Of course, Scott has to be the phone/purple guy or else im not interested

M. Night Shyamalan… when it turns out the Uwe Boll is the killer we can all shout “What A Twist!”
well I haven’t seen the freddy movie yet so I don’t know what is gana look like but might be a lot of jump scares but I really want to see it:)
