Modder Transforms Dota 2 Into A Third-Person Shooter

And the crazy thing: it looks like it's actually a lot of fun.

'Action Dota' turned up on Reddit today and it looks super cool. Added bonus: the creator of the mod turned up on the thread and explained himself.

This is done as a Dota 2 mod using the Source 2 Dota 2 engine, but I did completely blow away and recreate my own keyboard/mouse control system instead of using the built in Dota controls. I created my own system of motion that allows me do to things like have characters jump and strafe, and turn at an infinite rate. In fact, no unit orders are given at all in the game, nor are any hero abilities or items used.

    H O H O H A H A!

Why would anyone try to make a shooter with the Source 2 engine? That just seems silly.

On a more serious note, after Valve modified the hell out of Source to make Dota 2 work it's funny to see someone try to turn that inside out.

Speaking of, there's also a group using the same tools to make an RTS game, ala Warcraft.

      Full circles, indeed.

That project is going along really well too. Can't wait until the proper release of the mod tools (they're currently alpha) so that this stuff will be readily available.

    Sooo smite?

No... they removed all of the MOBA elements to make it a bare-bones shooter. There's no skills, no levelling, no creeps... just you, the enemy, and your gun!

so they changed a MOBA into a fantasy FPS?

Well... a third-person shooter. Kind of like a really basic free for all gears of war where you only get 1 gun.

Camera just broke my retinas trying to keep up with it.
