First-person military shooters don’t get much more hardcore than Arma III. And yet, its most diehard fans think they can do even better.
ACE3 is a merger between three high-profile Arma III modding groups: the teams behind ACE2, AGM and CSE. They have spent the past few months working together on “the most comprehensive and realistic gameplay experience for Arma III.” And goodness does it ever sound like a doozy:

Advanced ballistics, weather, weapon heating, combat deafness, magazine repacking, backblast, overpressure — it’s like a checklist of sweet, sweet (not to mention deadly) simulation. All that’s missing is the part where you stand around at the base for hours each day, loading and unloading equipment beneath the hot sun.
Initial release is planned for sometime this month. Think you can handle it?

I always see these things and want to get in, but I personally can’t ever get over the wall that is the control scheme. It frustrates me so much that I can’t enjoy the game which is by all accounts a great one.
WASD + mouse. And a contextual menu. And an inventory button. Not hard dude 🙂
The part I can’t get past is how clunky the game feels.
A fps shouldn’t need a contextual menu unless you are doing complex maneuvers. I don’t class turning on a vehicle or changing seats to be complex.
Hency why you’re not the target demo for this game.
Off topic: Has anyone seen the game the devs from Project Reality are making called Squad?
The context menu allows for easy modding. It has some advantages over simple shortcut key mapping. It would be nice to be able to switch seats in vehicles without opening up a menu however.
Also along with WASD keys you also use QE to lean left/right and ZX? to change prone position. I haven’t played ARMA3 for 6months but I remember all the controls from OFP1 🙂 The game has hardly changed IMO.
