I have this dream of a Mario 64 type Wonder Boy where you go around little open world’s collecting those dolls instead of stars.
Power ups would include a stack hat so you can skateboard, a knight’s helm so you can go monster world style & of course a dragon etc from Dragon’s Trap.
Ape Escape. I need more of that in my life. Give it modern graphics, no motion control gimmick. Or just re-do the first game and make it bigger. It’ll sell at least two copies!

I want this soooooooo much. But Disney gave EA exclusive rights for (non-casual) Star Wars game development. And the only thing I want more than an X-Wing/TIE Fighter reboot, is for EA to stay the hell away from it.

I’m more of a fan of soft reboots, take a new direction with new characters etc & do it in a way that doesn’t shit on what went before.

DUNGEON KEEPER!!! Go back to the original concept, build & remaster what made it great. The premise of a reboot had so much potential until it was bastardised by EA & their damn dirty micro-transactions in the iOS port!
SKATE.
I need a PS4 version sequel, that re-ups all the good stuff and adds in things like:
– exploration – a big ass city like S2, but more hidden areas that are accessible by getting off your board and walking/climbing/jumping. Spots that need to be cleaned up to skate (pools drained, landings swept, garbage cleared). which leads to…
– construction – combine it with the object dropper so you can craft some sweet terrain in the skate world, not some separate isolated park. Need a sweet landing for that rail that’s not grass? Put some plywood down. Need a little more transition for that barrier? Concrete it. Think Burnside and you’ll know where this can lead. This could even happen online so people can create together in real time. Imagine coming across someone else’s created spot online and skating it, then editing it to make it better/different. Construction stuff costs $$$ too.
– items mean something – need to go faster? equip harder wheels. Need to pop higher? change to a new deck and lighter trucks. Also clothes/boards would get dirty/shredded. This gives you a reason to keep changing up your skater and to keep earning money by doing challenges to buy more gear.
– RPG – how about unlocking stat boosts and tricks and balancing out your abilities that way? make your ollie higher – but sacrifice your speed, sacrifice your flip tricks to get better grind stability. This way you would have to work up to hit those higher ledges/rails/gaps and not be a total pro right out of the gate.
– dynamic day/night and weather – What about spots that are only accessible at night or day? during the day a spot might be inaccessible to do gates or security but at night you could hire generators to keep the spot lit up (costs $$$). Weather would also play a part, sometimes indoor spots are only accessible when it’s raining? Doing KOTR challenges like ‘hit a 10 stair rail in the rain’ would be awesome, increased chance to slip out.

I would like to see Duke Nukem rebooted, i can’t see it though, DNF thoroughly killed the franchise which is a shame.
For some time now my head has been swimming with ideas about this and come up with “Duke Nukem V The Universe”, in which Duke Nukem is a hero of a bygone era who nobody likes anymore. When aliens attack again, Duke saves the day, wiping out a lunar settlement in the process and instead of being hailed a hero he is persecuted. So Duke must escape from his fellow humans out to get him, as well as an ongoing alien invasion.
It’s a story about Duke attempting to find his place in a world that has outgrown and rejected him. Also involves other characters such as Duke’s headstrong, independent illegitimate daughter and his equal-but-opposite (stealthy, non-lethal) twin brother.
I think Gearbox is looking at rebooting Duke Nukem 3D, even though Duke Nukem Forever, plot aside, was basically Duke Nukem 3D.

Syndicate Wars…not that FPS version.
the Crusader games with the controls of a modern twin-stick with a cover system (little bit Alien Shooter, little bit Meltdown, but more thoughtful pacing) would be awesome – especially if it had a level editor and co-op (maybe some PvP as an eventual MP expansion)
What I find really annoying with the originals is they are still graphically solid (as many prerendered and isometric games of the time were), but the 8-direction movement is what kills it to play again nowadays! (shame it couldn’t do like LBA with isometric tiles for pretty architecture but 3D models for characters to allow full range of motion)

I’ve been playing the alpha and it is awesome even in an unfinished buggy state.
I’d like to see a Tenchu reboot. Tenchu Z was pretty good and introduced neat concepts with the light and smell considerations but I’d like to see an open world style game in which you have to find out information about your target’s habits and movements before taking them down rather than making your way through a set layout.

A proper Syndicate reboot, with squads made up of online players, gameplay similar to GTA Online’s heists, but instead of fighting with street thugs and biker gangs, it’s massive corporations trying to take each other out.

Yeah Tiny Troopers and Running With Rifles don’t quite scratch that Cannon Fodder itch, and I’ve wanted a new Jungle Strike since seeing how well games like Renegade Ops turn out!
Taking Syndicate online like that makes me think an EVE-style player-driven corporation system driving all the politics and skirmishes – could be insane with a little Cyberpunk style hacking to drive some behind the scenes stuff too when it comes to espionage and equipment procurement.
I was just thinking how Battletoads could be done differently, and wondering whether 3D could work when it dawned on me… holy shit Platinum could totally make a 3D Battletoads game that would be awesome!
Heres one for fellow old farts out there- paradroid on the c64 (which was rebooted to paradroid 90 on the amiga. Yes a reboot in 1990!). Oh and Wizard of Wor (my mums fave game back then) and hell, Boulderdash as well.

The Need for Speed
Inspired by cannonball run, smokey and the bandit stuff.. Take the finest points from Forza Horizon 2, top gear road challenges from tv, add cop chases, missions (such as make it through a battlefield or war, outrun a attack chopper, race to catch up to get on the back of a truck with car carrier trailer, drive up back to sneak through full on road blocks, race down a mountain drifting). Add options to pay for road upgrades, new routes, have long drives (like Canberra to the coast) and then add motorbikes that allow riders to hit each other! Allow spectators to view racers from helicopters. Have news teams in helicopters broadcast big chases in progress fr all. Allow any type of vehicles including Utes, semi trailers, buggys with options to add caravans, trailers for fun. I been wanting this for a while 🙂

I told of how to reinvent Sonic 10 years ago.
Speed Lines.
Large open spaces to let Sonic run around freely without falling down countless bottomless pits. The faster he goes, the more he sticks to ‘Speed Lines’ that effectively put him on autopilot, allowing players to traverse the awesome fast roller-coaster bits without requiring nanosecond reflexes to correct a slippery hedgehog. When he slows down, the player will regain more fine control, allowing the player to enjoy exploring and platforming segments with the same finesse at the Ratchet and Clank games.
If you want to play as more characters than Sonic then every character must be specifically tuned to their special skills. Sonic is speed, so leave that to him. Instead of making other characters awkward carbon copies, make Knuckles a heavy brawler with strong combat play, tails is a flyer and should be geared for reaching new heights.
Then if the developers want to avoid making yet another cringe-inducing story then it’s just so easy: use the Archie comic lore (perhaps just the first 100 issues) or the Saturday morning cartoon it’s based on. It’s got fun characters, a fleshed out world, a truly evil Robotnik etc etc.
I’ve had similar thoughts. An open world Sonic game where the Zones are vast, with a boss at the centre of each one. You can run around the entire planet (perhaps a giant möbius strip) eventually. Ravines and choke points can funnel sonic into racetrack style gameplay. There is always another route though. I imagine it looking like the animated intro to Sonic CD. Sonic looks coolest when the camera is to his side. I imagined his high speed mode to look like warp speed, where the backgrounds blur and enemies float in warping perspective and giving you time to react. Its about changing the point of focus to what you need to see. Your speedlines idea seems similar.
Yeah my idea is solely to resolve the troubles that I’ve seen with all the 3D Sonic games. Honestly, my idea could be terrible but lately, Sega’s ideas for Sonic are no better.
Sonic doesn’t need to be rebooted. They just need to erase any Sonic games that were released after 1994.
Myth. I’m not entirely sure where you’d take the storyline, but there’s bound to be some way to continue the series even without the Leveler stirring things up.
Rollcage – Rollcage Stage II is still one of the best racing games ever, and I’d be happy just with a remake of that that plays nice with xinput.
One of my big ones would be Settlers though. Ubi really killed it (in the literal bad way, not the figurative good way) with the Uplay integration for what I always liked as a nice slower-paced single player endeavour. I would love to see what happened with Cities: Skylines to SimCity happen to Settlers III and IV, since I always liked having to manage the physical storage and transport of all the goods, along with the classic Settlers II-IV era gnome people. (I heard mostly good things about Settlers 7, but never played it because Uplay, and specific Uplay AU regional issues making it not even worth a budget buy)
beyond that it would be the usual stuff like Magic Carpet and Jill of the Jungle, and maybe some Lemmings.
Oh my god ROLLCAGE! I pulled out my copy the other day for my Dad. So many good memories.
Oh wow, had totally forgotten about Rollcage…… which is odd considering my PS1 has a Rollcage wrap all over it, haha. Yeah, was a super fun game, and unlike most of the games being listed here, could actually be rebooted to still be fun in the current gaming environment we are used to.
As some have mentioned: Wonderboy. A 2D or 3D adventure platformer. As long as they revisit the franchise. (both would be even better!)
Magic Carpet, Outrun, Phantasy Star (party V),
Streets of Rage, Fantasy Zone and a bunch of PS1 /N64 games. There are a lot of great games except they haven’t aged well graphically.
Alex Kidd would also be nice.
Bring back old school scrolling shooters like Thunderforce, Gradius and Raiden while we’re at it too.

Xwing/Tie Fighter series
An HD remake of Syphon Filter coupled with a reboot would make the 10 year old me inside the jaded 22 year old very happy.

I think some of these games probably just can’t be rebooted. At least not in a way which makes them resemble their former selves. A lot of these games were great because they made the most of out the hardware they were on. 16bit platformers were great on early 90’s hardware, but you can’t really keep them great in a 3D environment.
There are a few exceptions, but I’d argue they are the exception rather than the rule. [eg: Mario]. There have been sonic games made recently which have kept the same gameplay with updated graphics and effects, in the same way that donkey kong was rebooted. Though, they just haven’t had the same affect as Sega has basically diluted down the Sonic name with so many steaming turds that it just doesn’t pack the punch that it should [this is coming from a die hard Sega/Sonic fan……]. Though, arguably 3D DK is damn awesome, I LOVED DK64!
That being said, Streets of Rage in a format similar to Left 4 Dead would be great.
A team of up to 4 people roaming through winding levels, picking up weapons as you went, bashing your way through packs of enemies. Mmmmmmmmm, this has me very excited!

Final Fantasy. Basically rename Bravely Default to Final Fantasy: Back to basics. Maybe give it 16-bit graphics. Hugely encourage and reward non-linear exploration like the 6-8 entries did, with secrets, sidequests and collectibles basically doubling the length of the linear gameplay. Allow to gather a big collection of characters. Put a lot of work in the job-class-skill system. That was basically one of the big selling points during the 5-10 era and then became somewhat of an afterthought.
Bubsy reboot please. Is anyone with me? I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone mention this franchise since about 1995 but there must be some fans out there!

A post I found on reddit that made me wonder how Interesting the back-story to Sonic the Hedgehog is, and how we never got a chance to properly explore it with modern game design.

Intrigued by his new friend’s speed, Kintobor conducted some experiments by having Sonic run on his Kinetic Gyratoscope, helping the hedgehog to run even faster. When Kintobor invented the friction-less Power Sneakers, Sonic was able to run faster than the speed of sound. The resultant sonic boom shattered the Gyratoscope, fused Sonic’s spines and turned him from brown to his more famous blue form.
This is Sega of America’s back-story. That’s why there’s no exploration into it in any modern Sonic game, or any for that matter. It’s not canon.
