The Worst Kind Of League Of Legends Teammate

“Is this guy gonna rage at me the whole game?” the unfortunate soul asks. Yes. Yes he is.

League of Legends player and YouTuber Taha Iftikhar uploaded a short clip from one of his recent games that shot to the top of the hugely popular game’s influential subreddit, likely due to the nerve it struck for showcasing the most infuriating type of teammate to have.

You can watch the 90-second clip above. Pay close attention to dialogue between Thresh (Taha) and his lane-mate Caitlyn. The Cait player never seems to stop digging into him for one reason or another, even after he neatly kills off both of their opponents in the lane, effectively saving his teammate’s life in the process.

The best part comes at the very end, when the Thresh player defends himself by saying: “i made us win.”

“no,” the Cait player responds. “nami did.”

As with any moment in League of Legends, there are innumerable nuances to consider. Thresh is technically supposed to be the support character, for instance, so maybe you could argue that he really should have hammered their two opponents down but left their almost-dead carcasses for Cait to finish off so she could get the credit for it. And he did admit in the very title of his video that he was late to the lane the two of them were meant to co-op together, so maybe some of Cait’s frustration and nonstop blaming was justified.

Still, you can’t really excuse the Cait player for being a total jerk — especially given how Thresh doesn’t return any of his barb’s in the moment to make it a full-on “circle of blame.” That’s what makes these kinds of League players so goddamn infuriating whenever you encounter them. Whenever something goes wrong, they immediately look to the closest possible teammate and start blaming them. They don’t take their head out of the game completely to straight-up troll their allies or throw the game. But that almost makes it worse, because if they did that they’d be much easier to dismiss entirely. Instead they stick around, pushing your buttons over, and over, and over again.

  • I’m always interested to read about how much abuse someone will take to enjoy a game. LoL is one such game where are large percentage of people playing must be masochists.

    • I think you’ll find that most people that really enjoy playing MOBAs do so with a group of friends. It’s just when you brave the cesspool that is the solo queue that you start to have issues.

Think of it like enjoying basketball (or any sportsball really).

You may love to play on weekends with your group of friends, or maybe you play once or twice a week in a league against strangers and have a pretty good time. You love the game, and want to play any chance you get.

But what if all your friends are busy? You could muck around with the ball by yourself, but that’s not really the same. You want to play with other people.

You can always head down to the local public courts and play with whoever is there, but chances are you’re going to run into at least one prime douchewagon who thinks he’s top shit, and is quick to blame everyone else when things don’t go his way.

  • That was incredibly tame. Jane only really said three things the entire time, two of which were in response to Iftikhar, and the first one sounds completely fair. If you think that’s the “worst kind of LoL teammate”, I’d love to know what game you’ve been playing because it sure ain’t LoL.

  • I just /mute anyone who does not provide me with reasonable or constructive dialogue. In rare cases I’m forced to mute the whole team. I only play normals, so it really isnt worth my time and only takes away from the experience. You can tell pretty quickly when someone is going to detract from the enjoyment of the game.

  • “The Worst Kind Of League Of Legends Teammate”

Title is incorrect. Implies there is another kind of LoL teammate.

  • This is why I only play BOT with my girlfriend as support. We always work as a team and kick ass together. We ignore all other players unless they are fucking up big time.

We used to run together in WoW too with a friend (me as DPS, her as Heals, friend as Tank). But we all quit WoW so that no longer happens

  • Meh when i run into idiots like that (i main support), i do one of three things.
    1. Mute them and the entire team and continue along my merry way in silence.
    2. I change my role from support to carry and start taking creep/kills
    3. I leave the lane and either roam or sit in another lane.

Very rarely will i just completely troll (feed or AFK), usually if they want to be a self righteous prick, then i leave the lane to them. If they’re as awesome as they think they are, then they should be able ot handle things. Atleast that’s what i tell them 😛
