But Kotaku writer, I hear you ponder, the Nintendo DS was incapable of getting anywhere near a resolution you’d call “high”, how could this be? The answer: emulation.
Via this /r/games thread, the latest beta version of the Drastic emulator for Android has a feature that lets users test out high-res rendering for 3D objects in games. You’ve no doubt seen similar things before, whether on official HD remasters or other emulators, but there’s something about the scale involved with the DS that makes it fascinating. It’s one thing making good-looking GameCube games prettier; it’s another to bring clean lines to games that had previously known only blur and giant pixels.
While the HD clean-up only benefits 3D objects — textures are of course unaffected — there are still plenty of games where that makes one hell of an impact.
You can see more screens in this GAF thread. The Idolmaster ones, like the one below, are just insane.

What’s that Dragon Ball game?
Dragon Ball Kai: Ultimate Butouden and Dragon Ball Origins.
Dragon Ball Kai: Ultimate Butouden – 3: Zero Alpha Edition: Ruby: The Final Fantasy of the Secret Negaverse Part XV: Chinpokomon’s story: Part C: Director’s Cut… 😛
Hm how do you play Zelda DS games without proper stylus support. Loved those DS classics.
Some DS emulators let you use the mouse on the bottom screen instead 🙂
Ah I thought this was an Android based emulator mentioned in the post but your reply is more likely to be correct.
I shall continue to dream of playing Zelda DS on my phone 🙂
look nice but the sprites look so out of place with those sharp 3d models.
Oh man. EBA and Hunters look sweeeet! I’d replay them just to see how much better they look.
Kind of like after I got my PS2 I couldn’t afford games for it so I played my favorite PSX games with the texture filtering switched on and my jaw slack. Tony Hawk, Metal Gear, and Quake 2 got such a workout.
Wow the megaman looks nice. Make me miss the whole series of battle network. I had an extremely overpowered protoman deck 😛
