FIFA Video Game Finally Adds Women's Teams

FIFA 16, a video game in which players must navigate the ins and outs of a corrupt organisation, will finally allow players to use women's national teams.

That's a first for the long-running soccer series, whose producers have been teasing the inclusion of female players for a long time now. It's wonderful to see EA Sports finally delivering, although I'm sure they're not thrilled with the timing.

There's a rad new trailer for the women's teams, which you can watch above. The game comes out September 25 for multiple platforms, as usual. I played a bit last week (at a pre-E3 event in Los Angeles) and can confirm that it's still soccer.

If the current debates are accurate this game and Assassins Creed: Syndicate should be the absolute best sellers!

How awesome would mixed teams be tho

Perhaps. The game gets pretty rough sometimes and a dude tackling and hurting a chick might cause some issues.

      Okay....

Imagine trying to control the females on FIFA 16 but they don’t move because they’re independent and don’t need a man making decisions.

This is great. Firstly because I'm all for inclusion. Secondly because this is the first time in a long time where a FIFA game has actually had an update that at least looks like they did more than change the roster and uniforms a little.

This isn't about feminism or any of that rubbish. This is societies long and slow attempt to change our culture to the point where gender simply is less of an issue.

Finally, even if the dudes at EA don't care about this whole gender thing, there is another angle. Right now, one of the largest entertainment sectors is tailoring its content to 50% of the market. That is bad business. They like many game companies are realising that its not just guys playing games and there is a largely untapped demographic that could be the source of growth for them. I'm all for inclusion. They want profit. If a more diverse range of games are available for me to enjoy as a result then i'm for it. I just hope its less 'put girls in the same old boy games' and more about a broader range of story telling.

But that's exactly what they did. =P

its going to be interesting to see how the womens stats fare against the mens.. or will they be completely different to avoid comparisons??

ha-ha, no - they will be rated 2-3 stars like A-League

I agree it is a fantastic addition to the series and a big step forward, but I think the impact on the market will be minimal, at least in the short term. FIFA is one of those series that primarily appeals to Football fans first. Would a woman that isn't interested in Football now buy FIFA just because of the inclusion of women? Doubt it. If you love the game (both the sport and the video game) then the genders would not have played a part in deciding whether it was for you or not.

I'm a female football fan, and this is actually the first time I've considered buying a FIFA game since the N64. It might not be a big deal to some, but being able to play as the women's teams is a nice bit of representation, not just in gaming but for womens football in general.

If you press UP UP LEFT UP Circle UP Square you unlock FIFA Kickback mode where you undermine governments and get huge cash incentives.

It's not that it's a bad update or anything, by all means it's a good inclusion, but in the end if this is their only big change to the franchise then it's pretty disappointing overall. The series seems to have stagnated a little over the last few years.

I wonder how long will it take before someone make an inappropriate mod for the women teams

Wow! Fifa is adding more than 2 new players. I'm guessing FIFA 17 will have much less new content, makes we wonder whether people will start to realise that each game could just be DLC

Just make a "FIFA FINAL" and release $40 updates

It might not be a big deal to some and i am guessing FIFA 17 will have much less new content. http://fifa17game.com/ I want some new content in update game.
