Top League Player Returns To Old Team After Losing Badly With New One

The Daily Dot revealed yesterday that rockstar Swedish League of Legends player Martin "Rekkles" Larsson is joining the European pro team Fnatic. Transers happen all the time in eSports, of course. What made this one interesting was that Rekkles had just left Fnatic last November. The prodigal son returns!

Rekkles transferred from Fnatic in November 2014 as part of a mass exodus the team suffered at the end of last year. He moved to the rival European team Alliance (now Elements), leaving Fnatic scrambling for a replacement for their AD Carry — a high-pressure, ranged position on any League of Legends team that serves to build up and then deal out massive amounts of attack damage over the course of the game. The departure came after playing dutifully for Fnatic from November 2012 — since before he was even old enough to play in the official League championship series. He made a name for himself over the course of his original two years in Fnatic with a series of awesome plays like this pentakill he pulled off in the 2014 League World Championship:

Fnatic ended up bringing in a then-unknown French player Pierre "Steeelback" Medjaldi to replace him. The month after Rekkles' departure, the team's mid-laner and jungler also departed. Things weren't necessarily looking good for Fnatic at the start of the current season, then. They'd lost three of their main players over the course of a few weeks and replaced them with relatively inexperienced counterparts.

In spite of that, Fnatic has done pretty well for itself so far this season. On April 19, they placed in 1st for the European League championship series Spring season. Rekkles' new team, meanwhile, landed all the way down in 7th. Ouch.

It will be interesting to see how Rekkles adjusts to the newish environment of his old team. But what I'm really wondering now is how Steelback is gonna feel about being replaced by one of the best ADCs in the business after helping carry his team to that number-one spot.
