One step forward, one step back. As CD Projekt RED rushes to patch the ambitious Witcher 3, it’s also introducing new glitches. Right now, there’s one preventing players from gaining experience points when finishing quests six levels higher than what the game recommends.
Quests don’t scale in The Witcher 3, so it’s possible to come across quests where you’re overlevelled or underlevelled. (Right now, I have one that recommends I’m in my 30s, even though I’m only level seven.) And given how expansive the game is, it’s easy to ignore a set of quests when you’re exploring a new area. When you get back to it, you may be overpowered.
With the current glitch, though, you might as well not complete them, as the game won’t reward you with precious experience points for finishing them up.
CD Projekt RED has acknowledged the issue on both its forums:
And on Twitter:
@datknew Yes. We’ve identified the problem and we are working to fix this.

The Witcher 3 has been regularly getting patches since its launch last week, so it won’t be a surprise if CD Projekt RED nips this in the bud soon. But for now, be careful while questing.

I thought something was off when no quest was giving exp. I usually enjoy doing chunks of the main quest then doing some side quests later on.
Is this something that was added in the patches after the day one patch? or just had been in the game since day one?
I’m way overlevelled already, I’d prefer not to get experience. I’m destroying bosses with 5 or so strikes.
So… Up the difficulty? You do not kill bosses in 5 hits on Death March…
My only problem with the game is how much exp quests grant, I dabbled in a few side quests and contracts next thing I know I’m over leveled, really frustrating considering I’ve done maybe a fifth of the quests in my log. Now I’ve committed to the main story only and i keep thinking itll catch up with my level if i stay away from side stuff but no. Its really painful 🙁
Also playing on blood n broken bones, thought it might slow my progression but you cant stop this steam train
Damn thought something was going on. Probably lost a couple levels or so because of this, 🙁
Note: You can kill bosses around 9-10 levels above you but its quite hard depending on their weaknesses. Allot of bosses fall victim to the flame torch sign, thought it can take a few tries to get them roasting well, and AI will often struggle getting around certain objects so you can abuse that 🙂
