If you’re a PlayStation owner in Europe, you may have experienced some ridiculously slow downloads speeds the last few days. Can you imagine waiting 48 hours to download a game?! That’s a reality for some folks right now.
When a reader alerted me to the fact that PlayStation Network downloads were sluggish lately, I figured we were talking about a few hours longer than usual to download patches and the like.
I remember what it was like in the PlayStation 3 days — it wasn’t pretty. PSN was a slow beast for yeaaaars. (At least, it was for me. I know some folks — unicorns, I believe — got better speeds.)
Sony does seem to be aware there’s something going on. Dealspwn noticed the company responded to a thread in their support forums, acknowledging it’s looking into the issue:
We are aware of reports that some users are experiencing slower then usual download speeds from the PlayStation Store.
This has been reported to our network team for investigation. Please keep an eye on this thread for updates.
How bad is it, though? I asked folks on Twitter to share photos of their download speeds, and it’s kinda unbelievable. If there weren’t so many people having the same experience, I might be inclined to say “hey, maybe it’s just you,” but I’ve received dozens of similar responses.

@patrickklepek TESO download showed around 80hrs est time, it was a little bit faster but download speeds are very uneven on ps4 (120Mb/s)

@patrickklepek Yes, downloading Driveclub PS+ edition (a 2gb download, not the patch however) would take me 20 hours. I have a 100/50 line.

Probably a total LOL for Aussie gamers. I’m on crappy RIM based ASDL, with no hope of NBN ever -(private rate – the NBN rollout is a total joke).
48 hours to download pretty much any game off PSN (or Steam etc.) would be an absolute luxury.

If you are experiencing sluggish speeds in Europe, I would suggest connecting to a server closer to the country you live in.

Pff! Rural?! I am 15 mins away from the city and all I get is 1.2mbps while I should be getting 20.

I had this problem with the Arkham Knight patch too. I was on NBN and it definitely wasn’t the wi fi or connection – Netflix worked just as well as always.
I was fairly unimpressed.
I’m the same. I bought Arkham Knight day 1 and this morning I noticed I was at 33%. Netflix on my PS4 streamed just fine though.
Good thing is you don’t need the update to play – I got the shits after an hour or so and just started playing. I didn’t have the online features activated, which I didn’t miss at all, and the game ran flawlessly.

1461 minutes to patch 11gb launcher for Realm Reborn….I can’t even leave it in rest mode to download.

Download 4 things at once, complains it’s slow. I’m not saying PSN isn’t slow, it is, but that guy isn’t helping himself by trying to get everything at once
Yeah, I find it frustrating how the ps4 tries to download everything at once and you have to pause the ones you aren’t prioritising.
for some one living in Australia this is almost like a millionaire complaining about loosing ten dollars, sure you may not be what you normally expect, but still a crap ton better than others.
I cant even load the psn store on the ps4 let alone download a game over 4 gbs
PSN downloads have been unusually slow for me in Australia too.
PSN speeds have been slow for the last 2 weeks for me. It took me 11 hours to download the day one patch for Batman:AK. Normally I can dl a 3gb file in 30-40 minutes give or take net congestion.
A hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha, when I bought eso I couldn’t play it for a week due to download speed. Nbn is building in my area with fttp happening for the whole town. Floods every ten years so half the pits had to be ripped out.
