Coming in 2016, Ratchet & Clank for the PlayStation 4 is technically the game based on the upcoming CG movie based on the original Ratchet & Clank. That’s fine — it can be as confusing as it wants when it’s this gorgeous.
One of the key reasons Ratchet & Clank fans love the franchise is the animated movie quality writing and visuals Insomniac’s been squeezing out of PlayStations for the past couple of generations. The 2016 CG movie from Rainmaker and Blockade Entertainment seemed like a natural progression for the franchise, but there’s nothing natural about the love between a Lombax and a robot. Unnatural things are bound to happen, like this unnaturally pretty debut trailer for Ratchet & Clank PS4.
Ratchet & Clank fans who’ve been wondering how the franchise could get better looking since the PlayStation 3 releases, you have your answer.
Like the movie, Ratchet & Clank PS4 will be a retelling of the original game for the PlayStation 2, including the first meeting between our heroes and a fierce battle to save the Solana galaxy from Chairman Drek.
Hopefully we’ll hear more next week at E3. Until then, enjoy staring and hitting the replay button.
Update: And here’s some gameplay footage!

As long as they go back to the old recipe from the first ones this should be fine!
As someone who has never played any of the Ratchet and Clank games, this might be the one to draw me in if it’s a retelling of the original game.
This many pre-E3 announcements.
This’ll either be one of the best E3s in a long time… or one of the most disappointing.
Man, I was thinking about jumping into a Prince of Persia: Sands of Time quadrilogy run, but now I want to run through the original R&C trilogy. I have no qualms with a reboot as long as they preserve the fun and humour that made the series such a beloved one.
Looks great. I am excited for this.
Ratchet & Clank: The Movie: The Game
Looks good. I had fun with the PS3 series and this looks like more of that, so … sweet.
Holy crap, this looks gorgeous! I’m glad this is a PS4 game; now I have a reason to buy the bloody thing!
The only complaint I would have, although I don’t think many would have this, is the fact that they’re still sticking with weapons like the Combuster, Wamonger, Groovitron and Mr Zurkon. Before the PS3 games, every R&C game had new weapons with a few old ones thrown in as bonuses, but since Tools of Destruction, it all feels sorta samey. They’re still great weapons, so this is a nitpick more than anything, but I wish we would have seen the Blaster, etc. return. I’m glad the Pyrocitor’s there, though.
Other than that, I’m calling it. This is the best movie tie-in ever.
Perfect opportunity for @transientmind and @dc to give it a go!
You guys/monsters said you’d never played it, yeah?
Dunno man. Looks like a platformer to me, and platformers suck. 🙂
*whispers under breath*
you suck…
With the Suck Cannon, everyone can suck!
Ratchet and Clank was the best thing about childhood!
@transientmind and @dc are monsters.
I never played Ratchet and Clank. If this is kinda remake of the first game I’d be tempted to look into it now (I like doing story-based things sequentially, but fully admit I struggle getting into games that are pretty dated)
Aannnndddd…I’m in! Won’t someone think of the golden bolts!
Will it be 60fps? I know they were being shit about it and going to 30fps for the last couple but I’ve been spoiled by the older titles that just play so well with their glorious fluidity.
Purty!
Hot damn, this looks amazing. Such R&C1 feels. I’m sold.
SOLD!!!!!
