So You Wanna Be A Video Game Concept Artist?

Eliott Lilly, an artist who has worked on games like RAGE and Doom, was featured here a couple of years ago. He’s got a new project, though, that’s a little different to the stuff we normally showcase here on Fine Art.

He’s written (and illustrated, duh) a book with the very snappy title The Big Bad World Of Concept Art For Video Games, a series of resources that includes blog posts and videos but also an actual book that aspiring artists can study to learn more about the industry they’re trying to break into.

What’s cool about it is that this isn’t a book teaching people to draw. It’s teaching about what a concept artist actually is, what they do, how they relate to the rest of their team/studio, what benefits there are to studying in college, internships, how to build your website…you know, the stuff important to building a career, rather than just improving your drawing ability.

There are also some additional tips from legends like Sparth, David Levy and Ben Mauro.

You can check the blog stuff out, and order the book itself, here.
