Xbox One Getting New Dashboard UI

Xbox One Getting New Dashboard UI

As part of an update due in late 2015, the Xbox One will be getting a new dashboard user interface. Looks nice!

Microsoft is promising improvements to things like community interaction (via a new friends list system), but most important to users will be the pledge that this is going to be faster than the console's current UI.

Also cool: the addition of Microsoft's Cortana UI assistant (also found on phones and Windows 10), which can help you out with all kinds of actions, even during gameplay (you can see it in action above).

Will Cortana be available in Australia by then??

I'm using Cortana Right now in Australia.

Without having to change my region. The ramifications of doing that isn't worth it to me.

My question here is, will we finally have the ability to play music and games at the same time, without having to "Snap" the music player?

And then after this is released (appears to include Win10 kernel for dash OS) we will FINALLY get background music playback. Found that out per one of Phil Spencers tweets as people heckled (rightfully) that the feature should already be there.

Can it play music or join a party without having to leave the app snapped? I can appreciate that the original design was meant to be extremely modular but they made some bad choices when moving core features to apps. I don't really feel a huge need for a new UI but if they use this as a chance to undo those mistakes then I can't wait.
That tab for community looks promising, as long as it's not just another 'you should buy this stuff' tab pretending to be a feature while pushing all useful functionality to the side.

What do you mean? You don't have to leave the app snapped when you're in a party at present, unless you mean snapping to the app when you're adding/removing/muting people?

Last time I used it when I unsnapped the app it booted me from the party.

I'm going to call that an unfortunate coincidence, I never leave the party app snapped and I've never been booted.

Id say that was a coincidence and the reason you were booted was a connection issue with one or more of the other people in the party.

You should let the snapped party app do its thing til you're definitley in the party and chatting away with all the other people before unsnapping it.

I've never left the party app snapped and have played in parties weekly (minimum) since day 1.

That looks like my dashboard background might actually be visible now!

I will just be happy if there are less ads than there currently are. I find it irritating how much they have snuck into the 360 and XBone interfaces.

Does that mean I’m expected to turn my Kinect back on?

I’m not looking forward to the Xbox going back to switching multiplayer controllers, pausing when someone closes the fridge and the assortment of other random stuff that broken system does.

what? does that have anything to do with the article? how is a new UI your soapbox to jump up and down about Kinect? So confusing...

These kind of features will require Kinect to be activated. I do not have Kinect activated.

or a headset plugged in to the controller O.o Considering the Kinect wasn't even mentioned in the Microsoft presser i don't see it being forced on people.

When did you last use Kinect, launch month?

Looks like a cross between Zune and the ps4.

So they moved the snap to the left?

With the announcement of backwards compatibility (and the potentially huge increase in games), it would be nice to be able to further categorise games and/or pins, rather than just dumping them in one long list.

      This!

I want to be able to sort my pins into folders.
      ‘Sports’, ‘single player’, ‘stoned’ ect.
