Zelda II Speedrunner Hits Personal Best, Gets Super-Emotional

Neil “PresJPolk” Stevens has been trying to achieve a particular goal in Zelda II: The Adventure of Link for months. When he pulled it off earlier this week, it was overwhelming.

Thanks to /r/speedrun for pointing this out, by the way!

Stevens has been speedrunning The Adventure of Link for a while, but he’s been after a different challenge lately: beating his personal record for finishing the game with everything. In the past, Stevens focused on any% runs, in which you’re trying to finish the game as fast as possible.

At one hour, 19 minutes, and 17 seconds, Stevens did it. He hit a personal best. If you keep watching, you’ll see how much it means to him, as he tries to compose himself on camera.

“I’ve been working on this for five months,” he said. “I can’t believe it.”

Though it’s not a world record, the kind of achievement we tend to focus on, it’s still a huge moment, one worthy of celebration.

“I can’t believe [it],” he said. “I wanted this so bad for so long. It’s been so stressful. It’s been so stressful. I don’t know why, but I really wanted this.”

Congrats, Stevens!
