Briefly: Star Wars Episode I: Racer was one of the better things that came out of 1999’s The Phantom Menace, and Mon Gazza Speedway was one of its best tracks. While there’s no new podracing game on the horizon, Victor Lammert‘s cool tribute is a really close match to a shot from an imagined modern version.

I still play this game at least once a year on my good old N64 (not emulators) I love it 😀
I would totally play a modern Racer remake.
Also imagine how cool it would be in VR, either with a HOTAS setup (or, really, two throttles) or using two PS Move controllers with Project Morpheus in a similar way to the “handlebars” on the podracers.
Had this on the N64, was a good one. There was one horrible track that had two paths. The top path was a super skinny bit and you had to either go real slow or have actual Jedi powers to stay on. If you fell down, you had to take a much longer version of the track and not win.
Abyss.
I loved this game. We used to sit down and play this game for hours on end while listening to the South Park movie album. I recently used an emulator to play it again, and destroyed all the tracks in a day. It’s a lot easier to play on PC than with the 64 controller.
I had this on PC back in the day, I actually went to look it up on Steam recently when they were doing the star wars game sales and was surprised to not see it listed.
Nintendo exclusive?
Nah, it was definitely available on PC. According to wikipedia it was on PC first and ported to consoles later, very much the opposite with games made now.
plus didn’t it also get an arcade machine with the actual throttle controllers?
Yes…twas a different game but solid nonetheless.
Yeah, you’re right actually. My baaaaad. Btw, the Dreamcast port was also awesome (:
Some day I hope to see a remake of Star Wars Episode 1; Pod Racer. With what would be possible now in terms of visuals, we could see a game that borders on movie-quality.
