Coming to the 3DS is a classic-style JRPG sequel that features mankind’s war to take back the Earth from dragons.

Scheduled for release in October is 7th Dragon III — Code:VFD, the fourth game in the 7th Dragon series from Sega.

The story is pretty simple: Life was going fine, then dragons showed up and everything went to shit. Like the game’s title implies, there were seven main dragons that took over the planet and humanity had to muscle up to try to take it back. Considering there have been multiple sequels since the original game’s release back in 2009, the idea of reclaiming the Earth never seems to stick.

The game has a very generic JRPG system and plot, but does not have a set protagonist party. Players can choose the gender, and job/look of not just the main character, but every member in the party.

Originally released on the Nintendo DS, the series has jumped platforms, moving to the PSP for the sequel, 7th Dragon 2020, and the subsequent 7th Dragon 2020 II. This time, for the fourth in the series, the game is making its way back to the Nintendo platform with a release on the 3DS

The latest game in the series brings the element of time into the picture with a story that crosses the ages from the past land of Atlantis, to modern (for the game) Tokyo, and beyond to the future world of Eden.

The series, while being somewhat of a lower profile game than your Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest, has managed to garner a rather substantial almost cult following among Japanese gamers, making the announcement a welcome one for Japanese RPG fans.
