In 2014, Kotaku reported that a fan was remastering Shenmue in HD (because Sega, it seems, wasn’t). It’s now 2015, so let’s see how that remaster is coming along.
As tipster Sang points out, YouTuber Kid Nocon once again uploaded more footage of the remaster, right as the record-breakingShenmue III Kickstarter was coming to a close.
This isn’t only fantastic work for a fan-made project, it’s fantastic work. Period.

On the latest Twitch Yu Suzuki did for the Shenmue 3 Kickstarter countdown he showed YouTuber Kid Nocon’s HD footage. But most interesting, Yu Suzuki caught up with the savvy Korean remake designer.. Yu Suzuki also mentioned that Kid Nocon may see more Shenmue things from him. A possible hint that he maybe assisting with development..? To early to tell, but he has a great skill with Unreal Engine 4 that is already being used for Shenmue3 development.
Hope you’re right because this Korean dude needs a job to showcase his talents more
Seriously though…if they released a remastered Shenmue 1 and 2, with Shenmue 3 and charge $200-$250…I would probably buy it. Some of the best gaming memories I’ve ever had.
The eventually will, mainly because they love money
It’s obvious Sega has no interest in Shenmue except license the IP. I’m sure if Suzuki had the money they would sell it to him.
What do you do in Shenmue, as in, what is the actual ‘game’?
It’s like Fallout without 100% freedom. You have to find your fathers’ killers!!
Why the plural? He’s only really after Lan Di
And drive forklifts! Can’t forget the forklifts.
Oh yeah, and race them too 😀
And pet a cat, and drink a soda, and play with toys!
And find a place where sailors hang out!
