July is usually the lightest month on the gaming calendar — therefore it’s the perfect chance to play catch up on games you may have otherwise ignored. Me? I’m playing three games this weekend: Batman: Arkham Knight, Splatoon and Her Story.
Her Story is a game I thoroughly recommend. It’s weird, smart, disturbing and unique. To discuss it is to spoil it, so I’ll just leave it there. It’s fairly cheap on Steam so you should pick it up.
Splatoon is my current ‘play whilst son is awake’ game, so that usually gets them most time on weekends. Good job it’s totally fantastic. Can’t get enough of it.
Batman: Arkham Knight I’m still enjoying. I don’t know how much time I’ll get to spend with this one, but hopefully I’ll get a decent amount of hours in. I’m determined to finish this one off.
What are you playing this weekend?

Kids away this weekend so:
Lots of Witcher 3 (fooling around in Novigrad, yay!)
Burning around Driveclub in a new GT-R and 370Z
Drunken Singstar with some mates on Sunday while we pig out on junk food
Bats. Only about 30% completion so hope to get some decent time in with that.
I’m out most of tomorrow so I’ll prob use that time to download AC: Black Flag for free on Games with Gold.
How do you have time to play three games Mark? I’m flat out getting maybe 2 different games into my weekend.
I think I’ll have time to play Life is Strange this weekend, playing Telltales G.O.T has ignited a desire to play choice based games again.
Kids around so options limited but I’m hoping to dig into the new Yoshi game on the WiiU.
It’s really good. I had a co op session last Saturday with a mate and we had lots of fun
Black Flag is on Games for Gold this month so I think I might actually power through the fact I haven’t played any of the Assassin’s Creed games since the first and give it a shot.
My XBOX Preview Program invite just arrived, so I might end up playing Mass Effect instead.
Anna’s Quest

<3
Anna’s quest!
Bloodbooooorne!
Yoshi’s woolly world!
Exclamation mark!
I’ll be going between collecting Riddler trophies and Yoshi’s Woolly World.
Maybe a bit of Marvel Heroes 2015.
Going to try and finish up Arkham Knight, I’m at around 85% completion.
And spend some time in the World of Warships OPEN beta, yes its officially gone to open.
Batman
Anna’s Quest
Gonna try out Her Story at some point too.
I’ll be playing Gungrave: Overdose and Chrono Trigger mainly. There will probably be some GGXrd Sign or USF IV as well.
How’s GGXrd Sign? I’ve been considering a purchase but I’m not sure if there’s much of an online community in Aus.
SPLATFEST! SPLATFEST! SPLATFEST! If you voted for pop I will destroy you!
SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY!
Limbo on droid. Finally gonna finish it lol
Likely the usual. Mixture of FFXIV, Payday 2 and Breaking Point.
I finished Her Story – at least, enough of it to work out what’s going on (I think). It’s a great game, but chasing up all the remaining video snippets is a pain. Protip: Note dates and locations of the videos you find.
Been replaying Okami HD lately, was excited about trying it with the PS Move but it just doesn’t work that well, especially since there’s no camera control. 🙁
Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World (Help me!)
and
Splatoon! New mode and Splat Fest? Yes please.
Finally finished unpacking boxes containing my consoles into the new house, Before the move i was playing far cry 4, thoroughly enjoying the game. Just bought Just bought bloodborne and still have the witcher 3 sitting on my desk, only played a few hours. It’s a brilliant game though i can’t seem to get back into it as much as i really want to play it, i keep thinking about the endless hours I’ll have to spend doing quests, side quests collecting materials etc.
I thought you were going to jump back on Bloodborne Mark 😛
More ESO for me and possibly Fallout 3. Also FF VII now that I finally have a PSOne emulator on my phone. I just need the Dual Shock 4 mount for my Xperia Z3 to make it more practical
I haven’t jumped online for quite awhile. How’s ESO these days?
I’m enjoying it (on PS4, I could never get into it on PC). Plenty to do and people to see etc. I can’t really say how much it’s changed from the PC launch, but the combat feels more crunchy which is good
Just upgraded to the Gtx 980tis! So I’ll be working my way through Witcher 3 in glorious 4K! Also a bit of fallout new Vegas just to tide me over until fallout 4.
Pillars of Eternity. 29 hours in and seems like I’ve barely made it anywhere in the story yet.
Batman, Batman and more Batman.
Batman, Witcher 3 and some Destiny. Maybe some hearthstone – enjoying it on my tablet, but I’m increasingly aware of the cards I lack. Might have to start playing multiplayer…
Probably Dark Souls 2.
Been plugging away, already seems too long compared to 1 & I’ve only collected 2 of those big souls.
It seems so nebulous when I compare it to 1, 1 is so tight.
I have Bloodborne going as well & there’s something about the huge amount of detail in the background that puts me off, like there’s too much going on & my eyes can’t focus, so I see a blur. I seem to miss a lot more stuff than I have in DS1&2.
It’s GOOD, they both are, just in the shadow of DS1 they seem inferior.
I agree about the detail thing entirely. Some of the later levels have lumps and bumps and shrubbery and I was actually get eye strain headaches from trying to work out where the enemies and the paths were. Also so so dark.
I always completely ignore whatever setting they claim lighting should be on in all games.
I may be missing out on the creepiness of pitch black areas, but I have lame enough eyesight as it is.
I’m still in the city, so yippee for worse areas :p
It’s the worst thing about the latest gen for me, stuff looks great, but I’m having trouble.
Hopefully it’s just teething troubles & developers will find a good balance between detail & looking good.
Anna’s Quest
Tales from the Borderlands
Portal Stories: Mel
TftB oh yea
Witcher 3… Wish I was playing it right now 🙁
My wife is going to continue with Fallout 3 onher PC which will probably lock me out of my steam library – if not, Anna’s Quest. If it does… probably continue with Watch_Dogs on Xbone or maybe I’ll revisit Fallout 3 on the 360.
Same as last week. The Sims 3. but maybe I’ll get into some other game. I’ve been looking at league of legends for quite some time now. Maybe Diablo. Or StarCraft. Or maybe Lylat Wars.
Witcher
Hearthstone
Dota 2
Maybe some Arkham City since I got it cheap on Steam ages ago. Thought I’d better give it a try before looking at Arkham Knight. Really dont understand what all the hype is about, combat is preeeeeetty dull, hope the story is decent.
Going to finish off Arkham Knight. Just have the Riddler puzzles to finish and I am done.
Then I will wait for them to patch it before I try NG+
What sucks about the Riddler puzzles is that you can’t finish that side quest line until the last mission is available.
Well, I finished Batman last night at 100%, now I need a community review article to talk about it because it’s fucking amazing!
I’ll probably get back into FF14 on PS4. I have 20 days left. Aside from that and D&D I can jump into my collection of backlog games.
Bit old now…
Dude, I was up to 6am every night for the last week completing all those Riddler challenges and side quests. It’s a pretty big game!
I agree. I really wanted to 100% it, but I just dunno anymore. 243 Riddler quests or something is just mehhhhh.
Having finished the main story and a sizeable chunk of the side quests, contracts and treasure hunts in Witcher 3, I am satiated by the game now. So I’ll be shelving it until the new expansions come out and moving my attention to a game I got for less than half price at the start of this week.
It took an entire night to download it, around 33.6GB, and performance is not great… can you guess what the game is? I bought a better GPU just to meet its minimum requirements and it still runs like a dog even at 1280×800. It is of course Batman. The framerate, most of the time isn’t half bad.. it’s playable. The most times it drops framerate is when the motion blur effect gets used, so I’ll be tweaking the INI to disable that and looking at fiddling with other settings to improve things.
So I’ll likely be half playing, half tweaking the game over the weekend.
Borderlands Pre-Sequel on PC, Toukiden on portable.
Super Meat Boy and Dishonored. Started SMB a long time ago, finishing it off now and going for 100% completion. Dishonored, cause well… Dishonored 2 hype. Yay!
A hell of a lot of 3DS games.
Destiny Is gone and CODAW is gone both thanks to the magic of Gumtree so that frees me up to play more Far Cry 4 or Sunset OD, or Dark Souls II or even Titanfall
May even take the proceeds of my sales and grab a copy of Arkham Knight!
YOU sell your games and don’t keep them? Shame on you. That’d be a good topic to discuss @markserrels trade or keep for eternity.
Keep for eternity, never know when the nostalgia bug will bite and I will want to play the game for a day and forget about it again. Only game I have traded in was Duke Nukem Forever for obvious reasons.
Nope – I’d finished the story in those games and they were keeping me from playing other fun games I wanted to try.
I don’t trade really great games – still got Portal 2, Red Dead, Deus Ex HR, Arkham City, splinter Cell Blacklist, GTA IV etc but arguably trading/selling older games allowed me to keep up with new releases in the past few years without breaking the bank.
Indeed half the games I traded was because they turned up free on GWG also!
For a while I was one of those foolish retards that bought games digitally for consoles. I’ve been a gamer my whole life and it’s nice to know that of my home & contents collection 70k is valued against the games on my bookshelf. I never sell em and don’t know why I was stupid enough to buy digital games for consoles when there is absolutely no advantage to the medium from a collector’s or seller’s perspective.
God bless almost all of my GameCube games still eBaying for $100+, the majority of my PS1 games all retailing in good condition for $50-200 + and majority of my gameboy, advance, DS, PSP, selling for almost retail or more for gems 🙂
Yeah I hung onto a lot of retro games, systems but I’m finding its time to let go – am slowly offloading my N64 collection because my N64 has an S-Video cable and I don’t have a TV that works with it any more and with all the 3DS remakes and now Rare Repkay what reason do I have to hang onto it?
I’m exhausted from clearing at least 99% of the locations available in The Witcher 3 – Haven’t attended to random ! marks around the world yet but have completed all boards and greyed out all loot locations, also have most of the Witcher Gear diagrams, though I’ll have to check online to see if there is gear I don’t even know about.
3 days logged as game time so far and I purposely haven’t completed it. I am growing tired of the world though and it’s very easy to beat difficulty system so I’ve decided today I’m going to stop chasing the gear dragon and finish it.
Then I’ll finish completing 100% Batman Arkham Knight – the bonus ending I haven’t seen yet seems like a big enough carrot being dangled in front of my eyes.
Cannot wait to pull myself out of this Sandbox AAA season. I need more FPS in my life 🙁
