Briefly: Assassin’s Creed Syndicate has been delayed on PC. It’s coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on October 23, but won’t hit PC until November 19, almost a whole month later. Ubisoft said the additional time will be spent on tweaks and optimisation. Fingers crossed?

Thank you, Steam refunds. Hopefully delaying a game’s release until it actually works will become the norm.
Except with the added layer of uPlay DRM I think refunds are disabled for Ubisoft games.
I could be wrong though, does anyone know for certain?
That can’t be accurate or everyone would be on that train, there must be some clause or legal agreement about mandatory refunds regardless sh$t house drm.
It’s possible… Some quick googling seems to indicate that Valve tells Ubisoft about the refund to cancel the key from your uPlay account.
UPlay still launches games bought from Steam via the Steam client, so there would be no reason for them to disable refunds. Other than arsehattery, which is a possibility.
Actually that would be precisely the reason why I thought they would have disabled refunds. Buy game from Steam, register on uPlay, get refund from Steam, continue to play on uPlay… Effectively getting the game for free.
If refunds aren’t disabled, then Valve must work with Ubisoft to disable the game on their service… Guess no-one really knows since Ubisoft haven’t released a broken game since Steam started offering refunds.
On that note though, I just realised that should allow you to bypass the 2 hour limit… Register the game from Steam, but load it through uPlay… That way you can play it for longer than 2 hours without forfeiting your right to a refund.
No, I didn’t make myself clear. If you buy a Ubisoft game through Steam and launch it via the UPlay client, it still boots up Steam and launches the game using the Steam client.
Do I still get my figure so I have a complete set for ordering the EB wankers edition?
This is why I won’t preorder an Ubisoft game unless it’s for console. It’s guaranteed to get delayed. Every AC has been delayed on PC for some reason or another. It’s becoming a bit of a joke.
It’s the same story as GTAV. If the game is delayed then that’s great, provided that it works when released.
But ubisoft have delayed pc versions before, and look what happened. Also, unity ran terribly on consoles as well.
As long as the result is an actually playable game, I don’t mind the wait.
Something perhaps even more important from that Ubisoft blog is this:
“The team in Kiev is working to accommodate the myriad PC setups as they optimize the game. Kovalev tells us that PC requirements are still being finalized, and said that there will be no locks on the game as far as framerate and resolution goes. The recommended system requirements will target 1080p and 30 FPS.”
I bring your attention to the very last sentence with them targetting 1080p 30fps for the “recommended” system requirement/performance… 30fps… no thanks. Even if there are no locks, if they are optimising for 1080p 30fps, it’s the wrong approach for PC gamers in 2015.
Ubisoft never learns, and they wonder why people pirate their games
Do they actually wonder that?
I don’t think they’re that stupid, I think they have accountants that produce spreadsheets where the only thing that’s important is the number next to the “Total $” column at the bottom that shows them how much money they stand to make rushing a game out before Xmas.
One can only hope they learnt their lesson with Unity
I’m struggling to recall the last Assassin’s Creed game that didn’t have a delayed PC release.
