I'd Forgotten About This Intriguing PlayStation 4 Game

Everybody's Gone to the Rapture: it's a first person exploration game. Sorta like Gone Home or Dear Esther, which makes sense because it's made by the creators of Dear Esther.

I had forgotten this game even existed. But it's coming out like next goddamn week. It looks great.

What's the premise? It's in the title really: everyone has gone... to the rapture presumably. The year is 1984, everyone is gone. Something weird has happened. MYSTERY. It describes itself as an attempt at innovative non-linear story-telling. I'm assuming that means its a more expansive, more ambitious version of Dear Esther — which was such an unforgettable experience.

I am a little worried by the trailer though. Mainly because the dialogue seems a little more... trashy TV? Compared to Dear Esther, which featured some of the best writing I've ever seen in a video game, I worry that Everybody's Gone to the Rapture might suffer. That being said, I love the premise and it looks visually spectacular.

What I don't want: a weird slasher spook story. What I do want: a unique story that surprises and engages me.

Here's hoping we get the latter.

Everybody's Gone to the Rapture is PS4 exclusive. Interesting considering the fact Dear Esther was only released on PC. It hits the PlayStation Store on August 11.

Got my antennae twitching for this!

I have... all manner of body parts twitching for this. Very keen indeed.

I'm pretty sure I downloaded dear esther through PS Plus the other month.

It's on one of the PS consoles so go check it out.

I think you mean Ether One on PS4.

And what a buggy load of rubbish that was too

Really looking forward to it, but the end PS4 product was so poor and the multiple patches didnt improve the game either

    Another great game on playstation.

I simply love playstation due to the great array of games.

I play games on playstation for atleast 8 hours a day as I am a paid game tester. The collection of games on PS is much better. Pity most of people do not opt for taking up a paid game testing gig inspite of playing games a lot. I personally took up this gig 3 months ago and have since then made above 1.5 grand using the game testing system of weduit game testers. Google for "weduit game testers" to find out the game testing opportunities.

Looking forward to GOW3 on my ps vita as thats my next game.

I really like the atmosphere in these type of things but I always end up wandering lost & aimlessly, unsure of what I'm supposed to be doing.

I found a padlock in ether one & remembered reading a numerical code earlier, tried it out...nothing.

I had no idea what I was doing.

Did Kotaku forget to write about Brendan Boyer stepping down from IGF?
