You can't say the name "Mary Jane Watson" without immediately thinking about Spider-Man. Peter Parker's favourite redhead originally appeared in the webslinger's comics more than fifty years ago and has primarily been used in Spidey storylines since then. But she's leaving webshooters behind... for Stark-brand power armour.
Marvel's just announced that Mary Jane will be joining the cast of this fall's Invincible Iron Man series. Writer Brian Michael Bendis is being coy about the nature of the relationship that she'll have with Tony Stark:
"They know each other... She used to live in Avengers Tower. But that's all I'm going to say for now because what kind of relationship they end up having is a big part of what I would like people to buy the book for. But what I can tell you is that it is new territory for both Tony and Mary Jane. And that is pretty exciting to write... This is a grown-up woman who has been through a lot."
MJ and Peter haven't been romantically involved in recent Spider-Man continuity and, in the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man series, Mr. Parker's going to be a globe-trotting CEO adventurer in the Tony Stark mode. So, MJ's closer proximity to Tony could lead to a change in dynamic between Spider-Man and Iron Man.
