Mannequins Slowly Stalk You In Creepy New Horror Game

Mannequins are terrifying, which makes them perfect for a horror game.

Late Night Shop is early into development, but I'm sold on the concept. For reasons unknown, players find themselves in a mall late at night, and realise the usually benign mannequins are following you around. The mannequins only move when you're not looking at them, which becomes the player's survival strategy. When you move, do so with purpose!

How this plays out in the game is deeply unsettling:

Did you catch that blink? In addition to allowing the mannequins to move when you turn your head away, the player will actually shut their eyes every few seconds, giving the mannequins an opportunity to ever-so-slightly shift.

This seems like the kind of game that's perfect for VR. In fact, you can download an early version of the game right now, which is playable with or without VR.

Apparently, the developers are also working on a multiplayer mode where one person is trying to escape, while the other is swaps between the mannequins in pursuit. Seems like it'd be difficult to signal when it's OK for the mannequins to move around, but hopefully that's a solvable problem -- it could turn out great.

Wasn't there a game recently that was just like this except with a twist where the game will permanently close down after 2 million player deaths or something? Seems pretty similar.

I feel like this has been done before with the blinking and monsters moving closer to you when not looking "scp-173".

Yay! Someone who knows about SCP! Ive tried to get a few ppl onto this n its usually blank stares or total lack of interest.

"Oh SCP 173, that sounds interesting, let's look that up."
"Oh hey, this page is pretty cool, let's read a couple more"
      *SCENE MISSING*
"Day 19.... still reading. Can't seem to stop. Please send help."

So they're Weeping Angels then? Interesting to see in a game, but the concept is far from original

      yep... Totally weeping angels.

Also Dreadhalls does this with the gargoyles.

Interesting to see in a game, but the concept is far from original

Earliest example I can think of are the Boos from Super Mario Bros 3.

Weeping angels, also reminds me of a game called SCP - containment breach involving a creature that is paralysed when being looked at, but can pretty much snap your spine in a moment if you look away (the game had a 'blink' timer, and pressing a button could force a blink to ensure you don't blink when it would spell your demise). Pretty much this exact concept, just minus the mannequins :P

As for mannequins moving when you look away, Condemned had this dude who would use mannequins to scare you, and I remember Condemned 2 having a pretty creepy scene involving them.

Yes! that Condemned level in the abandoned shopping mall. Freaked me the fuck out the 1st time I played it.

Condemned was so great, totally underrated as the only properly worthwhile 360 launch game. I had it hooked to a 5.1 system and it was amazing.
