After the initial plan of a WoW expansion without flying, the folks at Blizzard changed their minds — and now, the patch that adds the ability to fly is here and it completely changes our time on Draenor.
We’ve seen Draenor from above by using flight paths and certain items, but those only revealed parts of the world. There’s a lot more to explore:
Draenor not only looks beautiful from above, but flying also makes a bunch of things easier. Had trouble finding all those fishing pools for your level 3 Garrison Fishing Shack? Instead of getting lost with a ground mount now you can just fly around and check the minimap for pools. Same with archaeology (although no one cares about that). Collecting hidden treasures are now also super easy and since these spots contain a lot of gear, getting a fresh level 100 alt ready for endgame content is now only a matter of hours.
Unlocking the ability to fly is a little bit different this time. In previous expansions if you’ve reached a certain level you could just buy it from a certain vendor. In Warlords of Draenor you need to complete seven achievements which unlock a meta-achievement, flight ability included. They are pretty easy, and if you have a level 100 character you probably already have half of them unlocked. There’s one exception though: Tanaan Diplomat. For this one, you need to hit “revered” reputation with a bunch of newly introduced factions. That might take time if you haven’t played WoW in a while and only returned to have some fun with flying mounts. If you don’t want to grind, there’s an alternative, quicker way: Get Medallion of the Legion items from the Auction House. Each of these give 1000 reputation points to every Draenor faction, so eventually you’ll reach the needed number.
And with this update now live, it is time to say goodbye to one particular life-saving item:

So, nothing all that different from past expansions?
Don’t see the point for me. I’ve already levelled my characters to 100 and the next xpac comes out next year. Sure it makes some things alittle easier but I can use flight paths to get to raids and don’t need anything from the jungle so no point for me.
I’m sure I’ll eventually do it for the mount, once the new transmog system comes in for Legion and I can have space in my bags for unique modeled/coloured quest rewards.
I’m glad they grounded everyone for this expansion initially. Flying just allows people to gloss over and often skip a lot of the new stuff they put a lot of time into. It’s also detrimental to world PvP. No one encounters each other on the road or in the wild anymore because everyone’s flying. And even if they do, most people’s first reaction is to just get away, mount up and fly off.
Then I’m glad they bought flying in when they did, and in the way they did. No forking out thousands of gold on multiple toons, just a relatively easy meta achievement that ensures you’ve explored or at the very least spent a little time with the new areas. Account wide achievement is nice too – and alts I’m levelling to 100 can now fly in Draenor.
It’s great now for my Tanaan dailies, as well as exploring new areas I couldn’t previously reach. And now I can fly around and grab all those Draenor treasures too.
Yes it is nice, but wow changed the questing modules so you don’t have to read the quest anymore, cause it gives you the location. THIS makes you gloss over the game. Not the flying part.
*pours one out for Aviana’s Feather* damn that item was amazing for the last year. definitely the best “Novelty” in the game.
Too little too late. Even though I actually bothered to grind out this achieve I havent even logged in to make use of it. Hellfire is stale and timewalking is ridiculous, I already ran those dungeons many times in past expansions plus trying to grind for rare mounts. There is just nothing to do anymore. Heres hoping Legion comes sooner rather than later. In the meantime been loving D3 again.
Hahaha I hear you I’m the same way, got the achievement for flying mount and haven’t logged in since. But have been smashing D3 absolutely loving the new patch.
I finally got my Ashes of Al’Ar… Haven’t logged in since. That just seems sad 😛
