The Conker Game We Never Got To Play

At one point in time Rare might have been the best studio on the planet. Goldeneye, Banjo-Kazooie, Jet Force Gemini, Blast Corps.

And Conker's Bad Fur Day.

Conker's Bad Fur Day wasn't quite as successful as some of Rare's other mega-hits, but it's still remembered fondly. I was the right age when it came out: young, stupid, guffawing at double entendres.

But I didn't know that Rare were actually planning to make a brand-new standalone Conker game -- not for the N64 -- but for the original Xbox. In the above video some of the people involved in the game discuss the game itself and show-off some ever before seen concept art. It's pretty compelling stuff.

The game was called Conker: Gettin' Medieval. I have no idea whether it would have been successful or not. My gut instinct is moderately? But Conker was always a tier below some of Rare's real money makers. Regardless this is interesting to watch.

for me, Conker was above jet force and blast corps. it was an amazing game doing things that no one else was doing at the time. the humour was spot on, mixed in with the story. and the multiplayer modes and variances in level and character design.
i hope there is another conker again someday.

Conker's was a decent game but hugely let down but frustrating controls -especially at the end of the game (the escape from Nazi bear land & the xenomorph battle almost making me break my controller)- marred it a lot.
Plus the dated pop culture references.

Still, the Great Mighty Poo & the Big Bollocks Bourgeoisie Boiler still stand as some of the greatest bits of video game comedy ever.
