This Week In Games: SPORTS (And Skylanders)

This week is the week of sports. All sports. All of the time.

Soccerball is the biggest winner, with the release of FIFA 16 and Pro Evolution Soccer 2016. But we also have Blood Bowl 2 (which is kind of a sports game) and Rugby League Live 3.

Oh and Skylanders is a sport, right? It should be.

Blood Bowl 2 (PC)

What is it? Kotaku new guy Alex Walker won’t stop going on about this. It’s Warhammer mixed with NFL.
Should you care? Folks who love Warhammer stuff are going to lose their minds over this game.

Concrete Jungle (PC)

What is it? It’s like Sim City mixed with Magic: The Gathering. A card game that has you building a city. Sounds fascinating.
Should you care? This seems like a really interesting, unique idea.

Else Heart.Break() (PC)

What is it? An adventure game that looks pretty unique and new. The game description: “A game about friendship, love and technology in a place where bits have replaced atoms”.
Should you care? Looks good. Nice production values. Worth a gander.

Extreme Exorcism (PC)

What is it? It’s a crazy looking platformer where ghosts imitate your every move.
Should you care? This looks super well-made. For fans of Broforce and games of that nature.

FIFA 16 (360/PS3/Xbox One/PS4)

What is it? It’s FIFA. The most popular sports game on the planet.
Should you care? I’m gonna say something. I feel like FIFA is stagnating a bit. It’s still super good, but yeah. Bringing women into the game is super cool though.

Grand Ages: Medieval (PC)

What is it? People seem to be quite excited by this new strategy game. Start as a simple major and try to take over Europe.
Should you care? This game has a lot of positive press pushing into its release. Looks good.

Hacker’s Beat

What is it? It’s like Rez. With hacking.
Should you care? Meh, looks okay.

Mars Colony: Frontier (PC)

What is it? A game about trying to survive on Mars.
Should you care? Seems to take a fairly realistic tack on its high concept. That’s interesting.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 (Xbox One/PS4/PC)

What is it? The game that is really good on current-gen consoles but pretty bad on PC.
Should you care? I think it might actually be better than FIFA this year. That’s what I’m hearing.

Penarium (PC)

What is it? A retro-styled 2D arena platformer that looks glorious.
Should you care? This looks like a well-made video game with top-notch production values.

Rugby League Live 3 (360/PS3/Xbox One/PS4)

What is it? It’s the Rugby League game that isn’t all that great, but it’s the only Rugby League game you’re gonna get so take it or leave it!
Should you care? It’s not too bad. Can’t compete with the big boys like FIFA or Madden.

Shapes of Gray (PC)

What is it? This is a stripped back arcade homage armed with a name that is too close to that of a trashy romance novel turned film.
Should you care? Curators love this. I haven’t played or seen much of it, but it’s apparently pretty good.

Skylanders Superchargers (360/PS3/Wii/Xbox One/PS4/Wii U)

What is it? The Skylanders juggernaut is back on the track.
Should you care? Well, yeah. If you’re into Skylanders. It’s still the daddy. A major competitor in LEGO Dimensions launches next week. This could get interesting.

SOMA (PC)

What is it? The latest game from the creators of Amnesia.
Should you care? Horror fans need to play this. They need to. This will be live-streamed from now until kingdom come.

XenoBloom (PC)

What is it? A game about harvesting an Alien eco-system. Whoa.
Should you care? Sounds mental. People seem to like this game. Interesting idea. Check out the link to learn more.

Did we miss anything? What are you picking up this week?
