Just when people were starting to get burned out on Destiny, a video game about the endless hunt for a decent ghost shell, along comes a set of Halloween festivities that made me giggle way too hard.
Today in the world of Bungie’s space opera, you can go collect candy, buy masks, and use real money to purchase a few new Halloween-themed emotes that may tempt even the stingiest of consumers.
When you get into the Tower today, go talk to Eva Levante to start the festivities. You’ll get a bag of mystery items — including a mask or two — and a satchel for trick-or-treating. You can also get some quests that ask you to go out and get kills using certain masks. These quests will lead to more masks and other Halloween-themed rewards. (Redditors on r/DestinyTheGame are compiling a full list of the masks, which include Oryx, Crota, and a Legendary Engram, here.)
I wound up with a couple of neat masks including this sweet skull:
Almost everyone in the Tower is partying, including the Cryptarch, who is dressed as an engram:
Cayde-6 is wearing an Eris Morn mask:
Eris, on the other hand, isn’t a big Halloween person.
Thanks a lot, Eris.

This is pretty cool, it tempts me to jump back into this again after a 3 week hiatus!
Lucky you got the skull mask it seems to be the 2015 exclusive and if you didn’t get it form your free package then it’s locked behind the microtransaction paywall
I honestly thought Bungie’s micro transaction approach would fail. I thought, “Nobody’s dumb enough to waste money on these poorly animated cheesy emotes, right?” Apparently, they are.
“Ok, but surely nobody’s going to waste REAL money on novelty helmets that significantly bring DOWN your light level, right?” Apparently, they will.
Been happening on WOW for years, nevermind the hats in Team Fortress. It’s all in good fun, as they say. What I’d love is an in-game item for $2 where all money raised goes to charity, kinda like what they did with that Nepal disaster relief fund but actually within the game this time. That would be worth it.
Remember when the actual games themselves were compelling and fun and immersive, even genuinely surprising at times, so much so that you wanted to keep playing because of the gameplay itself?
Nah.
Yeah! They were so fun and immersive I couldn’t help but keep putting in coins to continue playing. ^_-
It’s back again in 2015! ..and a lot more spectacular… Woo! The micro-trasactions kind of annoy me though as I’d love to be able to use Glimmer to get the MJ moves, but hey, they’ve got to make that 500 million back somehow. 150 kills, back to the tower, 150 kills, back to the tower, ect ect. Anyhow, here’s my news video about the release, feel free to embed – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQlV_JEsP7E
