It’s Official: No More PlayStation 3s For New Zealand

You had a good run, PlayStation 3, but the writing was on the wall when the PS4 came out. You’ve been superseded, demoted, set aside. Retired. And now your papers have been signed by Sony itself. Well, in New Zealand anyway, but I’m sure Australia — and the rest of the world — will follow.

A few sites, including Videogamer and ThoseGamers, caught wind of news that the PS3 wasn’t long for NZ and after politely tapping Sony Computer Entertainment NZ on the shoulder, the latter received the following confirmation:

“SCENZ will not be shipping anymore PlayStation 3 consoles to its retailers however the platform is still available in retail outlets throughout NZ and being supported with peripherals, great new releases and back catalogue software.”

It’s hardly a ground-breaking revelation, but it does mark the start of the aging console’s retreat from retailer shelves and eventually, consumer lounge rooms. Not that the PS3 is by any means dead… as long as they keep making replacement lasers for the Blu-Ray drive (I had to have mine replaced, twice).

End of an Era, PS3 is Officially Discontinued [ThoseGamers, via MCV]
