One Piece’s And Dragon Ball’s Creators Talk About Not Sleeping

Making manga is not easy. Something has to give and that something is usually sleep!

Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, is an infamous workaholic. His hero, Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama, is no slouch.

In an interview from ages ago (recently, uploaded to 2ch), the two talked about their hectic work schedules.

“Now, while working, I only sleep two hours every two days,” Oda said at that time. “That’s not all at once, but divided up into 15 minutes at a time.”

(Don’t worry! Oda now sleeps three hours a day. Phew.)

“There was a time where I slept only twenty minutes over the spawn of six days,” recalled Toriyama. “It was like I gonna die.” (Last year, Toriyama said he wasn’t sleeping while doing Dr. Slump.)

Both agreed that it was much better for your work to get rest. Let me add that’s also good for your health!

Toriyama asked Oda if he’d ever fallen asleep while drawing, and Oda said he had not, but while sleepy, he has done things like drawn Luffy in Nami’s clothes, joking at how surprising Luffy was with boobs.
