South Korea Is Building A Giant Monument To… ‘Gangnam Style’

The Seoul district of Gangnam has announced a proposal to build a huge bronze sculpture of the horsey dance. No, really.

Well, with 2.4 billion views, it is the most watched video on YouTube.

The Korean media (via tipster Sang) are reporting that the district set a budget of 418,320,000 won ($513,253) and are currently accepting bids via the project’s website.

The statue, measuring 5m by 8m, will be located in Gangnam (where else?) in front of the COEX Center, where part of the video was apparently filmed. You can see a mock-up of the statue above. The inclusion of PSY is in case you don’t know what the fuck is going on. You might not!

Gangnam hopes to install the sculpture as early as December, but that depends on whether bids are successful.
