This week will no doubt present you with many choices, but in video game land we’re being asked to make a big one. We are now being asked to divide our time between two of this year’s biggest releases.
So where will you be spending the majority of your time this week? With Star Wars Battlefront or Fallout 4?
Personally, I have no idea. I feel like I’ve barely even cracked the surface with Fallout 4. So I really want to play more and get stuck into that universe. On the flipside, I really enjoyed the Battlefront beta and want to see and play more.
I suspect it’ll depend on how much time I get. If I manage to get a good few hours to myself, I’ll be playing Fallout 4. If it’s just a quick 30 minutes here and there, I might play Battlefront. Either way, it’s been a good month for major releases.

Battlefront’s lack of SP content or content in general plus the stupid pricing will keep me clear. I just don’t want to play online anymore.
Fallout 4 just isn’t my cup of tea and by all reports from mates….once you get past the “omg fallout….” It’s good not great.

Personally I’m splitting my time between Fallout 4 and Sword Art Online: Lost Song.
I find I’m enjoying Lost Song a fair bit more than SOA: Hollow Fragment, probably because it feels a lot less grindy. While you do have something like 10-15 companions to level up, if they are under-levelled they catch up pretty quickly. They tend to die a lot less because you now have 2 companions rather than one, and they heal and resurrect each other.
Fallout has that whole Bethesda thing where you run into one thing on the way to another thing and wind up with a quest log full of stuff to occupy you. Not a criticism. It’s when they hand you a quest to go somewhere for which you are drastically under-leveled that I have problems. Some of the legendary enemies are completely nuts.
I’m avoiding Battlefront for now as I’m not really into multiplayer.
The other game I’m spending significant time on is Dungeon Travelers 2 (on Vita). What can I say – it’s a dungeon crawler, and I’ve liked good dungeon crawlers since Might & Magic 2. Or even Moria, although that’s not a dungeon crawler in the usual sense.
Rise of the tomb raider first for me.
I don’t want to start sinking 100 hours in to fallout 4 and then get console fatigue with tomb raider still unplayed.
I got Tomb Raider on Monday and, yeah, I’m spending more time with that than Fallout 4.
I never thought that would happen.
I’m only an hour in to Tomb Raider, enjoying it so far but still early. I got them on the same day but haven’t loaded up fallout yet.
I’m 27 hours in to Tomb Raider and barely made much story progress. There’s so much exploring to do. I’ve never 100% any game but this one makes me want to.
I want Tomb Raider, but it can wait until I’m done with Fallout. I always knew Fallout would consume my time.
Where is the ‘I don’t have any money please someone just put me out of my misery’ option?

As someone who has no interest in multiplayer, it has to be FO4.
Shame too, I reeeeally hoped SW Battlefront would have a single player campaign. But, fair play, I understand single player is not really Battlefronts thing.
It wasn’t battlefields thing either yet they keep putting in campaigns that nobody wants. Lots of people wanted a campaign in Battlefront because of the setting and of course on this occasion they don’t add one.
I am a massive star wars fan and I am really looking forward to Battlefront with friends.
That being said, Fallout 4 has already occupied so much of my time already that I can see more of my limited free time this weekend being spent trying to protect my settlements, Damn those ghouls, they haunt my dreams! 🙂
Oh but I will be hosting my first DM session of Star Wars Edge of Empire this weekend, I suppose that kinda counts right?
I don’t have much time to play vidya games these days so Battlefront fits the bill for me.

Fallout – pure PvP multiplayer games aren’t my thing. Although now I wish I had several hundred spare hours to play through the SWTOR storylines…
Bit over multiplayer games at the moment, nice to plod along in the Fallout world and not be hassled. This probably wont last though, and I do enjoy the Battlefield series.
I want to play both but don’t really have the time to invest in Fallout4 at the moment, I would lean towards Battlefront purely because I can just jump in and play in short bursts.

Fallout 4 if I had to choose, but I’ll be bouncing between both with a bit of Blops in the mix too 🙂 depends what my mates are playing really, Battlefront and Blops are good with mates, but otherwise it’ll be fallout all the way

I’ll probably get battlefront at some point, but I’d say both anyway. Playing f4 atm but am digging out halo 5 at regular intervals to get my multi fix.

Not really a Star Wars fan (blasphemous I know) so it’s Fallout for me. Problem is I still have MGSV mostly unplayed, Batman Arkham Knight and Mad Max are both waiting to be finished and Hearts of Stone needs to be played. Also Just Cause 3 looming on the horizon in a couple of weeks as well as in-laws visiting for nearly 2 months which reduces my gameplay time down to almost zero.
When I do get some time to myself I’m paralysed by the choices of great games that I have to play.
Woah. In laws for 2 months??? I feel very sorry for you. I could hardly manage 5 days.
My in-laws are really cool though so I like having them stay, plus they have only been to Australia once before so if they annoy me I can ship them off to a remote Australian tourist trap like Uluru or the Whitsundays for a week or 2 under the guise of convincing them to see Australia 😛

I agree … until you get those friends and relatives who DON’T realise how big the country is, and expect you to be able to do a quick drive Melbourne to Sydney for a day, or if you want to spend the weekend, maybe just ‘pop over’ to Uluru. *groan*
Nice, mine are alright but the father takes every slightly meaningful event as an opportunity to have a philosophical discussion. And his discussion is more of a drip feed trying to get me to say the answer he has in mind. This happened at least twice a day on the last day I was daring him to start one so I could flatly refuse to play along but he didn’t :P.

Not a fan of a battlefront without singleplayer or galactic campaign mode. Fallout 4 for me.
No galactic campaign mode?!?!? Gaah I was looking forward to playing through that – that’s what made BF 1 and 2 memorable for me…

Both – I can (albeit not the most comfortably) play F4 on the train (to work and back) with my 17″ Gigabyte laptop, and Battlefront on my lunch hour. Then at home whatever time I can squeeze in around 2 little kids 🙂
For all the video games I play I am ashamed to admit that I really suck at multiplayer! I’m usually mid table if not right at the bottom so I’ll just stick to fallout 4 where I have some sort of chance against the opponent! I’ve also got dying light, batman and wolfenstein to finish so it’s gonna be a busy one!
I just watched a digital foundry video on ps4 xb1 fps comparisons and in some areas the fps drops to 19 on both consoles! That is ridiculous we’re two years in to the console life cycle and already games are struggling to maintain 30 fps.

I don’t know enough about Star Wars to make a proper judgement… is there a full-scale single-player campaign in there? Or is it mainly a multiplayer game?

No campaign, there are some single player modes but who wants to play that?
Unfortunately it is just multiplayer, Star Wars deserves a huge campaign, but nooooo.
Have Fallout 4 here, but I haven’t opened it and will be getting a refund to pick up Star Wars on Thursday. I got caught up in the hype, but after reading multiple reviews I figure it’s just not the game for me. For someone as time poor as myself, the idea of sinking hundreds of hours into a single game is not appealing.
2 Player short bursts of Star Wars goodness with my son on the other hand… awesome.
I have zero interest in Star Wars, so I’ll be continuing my quest to rid the Boston wastelands of junk this weekend.
I honestly got bored of battlefront after a couple of hours. The game could have been great, but it is so dumbed down.
Firstly the consistent aiming no matter what you’re doing sucks. The two primary game modes Supremecy and Walker Assault have four maps. The lesser modes will probably only be playable for the next few weeks because the game is so shallow and people will leave.
The game looks amazing. It truly does, Endor is the best looking MP map I have ever seen, In this day and age when we are used to seeing previews of games with great graphics which then are toned down for release. This game delivers. Really stepped up from Battlefield 4. It also runs great on my 980ti at 1440p.
The game needs VOIP. I think through making it more casual they wanted it to appeal to a wider age range. Removing this was a means of 10 year olds and 40 year olds not knowing they were playing against each other. The problem is, the more fun smaller modes definitely need this. I don’t see how those modes are meant to work with out it. Heroes and Villians would instantly be 100 times better if the team could chat and everyone could chat between rounds.
People rave about the sound, but seriously it’s just star wars sounds. An enemy can walk right up next to you in a forrest, pushing through furns and you don’t hear it. Situational awareness is terrible. Not reflected in sounds and the mini map is awful. It isn’t even a map. Just a circle with dots and some red bits to point you in the direction of action.
If this game had more maps, and was closer to Battlefield it would be amazing. Instead taking certain aspects out which encourage team play to simplify the game for kids ruins it.
The two main modes primary game play is the same. Two points, capture, move up the map. It’s essentially Walker Assault and then the same minus the walkers. You have one squad mate who you can’t chose. Can’t speak to out of chat. Sometimes you don’t have one at all. So basically you don’t work as a squad. Do your own thing. Say I’m on endor and I push up behind enemies, get to capture point. The second I die all my effort is gone. I randomly spawn, do it again. DIE. If the squad mate is playing as well. He’s one guy.. harder to stay alive. If it was battlefield you could really work as a team, push, have people stay a live. Put a beacon. Drop health, revive and actually get a strong sense of accomplishment. All of that aspect is gone. So you often find yourself doing the same push over and over again.
The game is just odd. It’s like they made a star wars battlefield game and then stripped out core features. The only appeal is the pretty graphics and it is ‘star wars.’ This stripped back Battlefield feeling may have worked if they added new things. The jump pack is cool, but like the new COD, these should be standard. It wan’ts to both be an arcade casual shooter and battlefield. It’s attempt to do that is just remove things from battlefield. Not add anything arcade.
The game would be better with friends for some of the smaller modes so we can teamspeak. Or even the main game with one friend. I can not however in good conscious recommend any friends to buy the game.
Of recent efforts in the Battlefield arena.. yes I know this is Battlefront, but really it is, ‘DICE MAKE STAR WARS BATTLEFIELD.’ They seem to be lost. DICE says they’d make Bad Company 2 if they knew why people liked the game. EA puts out a cops and robbers Battlefield game, stripped back from Battlefield 4, they then don’t add really anything new. I actually really liked Hardline, game play was great, modes were great but I had been playing a more beefed up complex version of that game experience in BF4. So I needed something more. All it would have needed was more maps. Instead the game dies because it’s too repetitive. Now there are DLC and the game probably has enough content. No one plays.
They made this mistake but worse with Battlefront. Very few maps for the signature modes, and then even less too the game. It will be dead before the DLCs make it a worthwhile experience. The visual and star wars settings isn’t enough. If someone like me, primarily a FPS player. Been playing since Wolfenstien as a kid. Played every major FPS since. Love Star Wars, I can not wait for the new film. I probably played as much CSGO yesterday than I did Battlefront. Yet when Black Ops 3 came out, I played that game a lot for the first week with out touching another game.
AAAAAARGH! I asked myself the EXACT same question yesterday! Then bought them both anyway because I hate money.
This isn’t even a question… If its about where we’ll be spending most of our time I think the only answer can be Fallout – if not right now you eventually will be sinking HUNDREDS of hours into exploring!

I wasn’t able to finish MGSV by the time NBA2K16 came out, now we have Halo 5, black ops 3, Fallout 4 and we are about to get star wars. It’s a hard life sometimes..

I know Fallout 4 will be a far better, engaging game but as its single player I feel I’m better waiting til its cheaper and has a million and one mods I can add.
Where as Battlefront is multiplayer which needs full server to get the most from it. I think unless DICE have some massive new features to add down the line I don’t see this game lasting much more than 12 months.
Maybe not even 12months. If hardcore FPS players are all saying it’s shallow, and casuals tend to migrate off to other games fairly soon… DICE had better get the DLC out really fast or everyone will move on, and the game’s servers will be more of a barren wasteland than F4’s Boston…

I’m about to have twins in a fortnight so fallout for me, once they come I will have only small snippets of time I’d image, where Battlefront will fit in nicely.
God I hate this time of year! Around June-October every year I find myself looking around at other not so big or older games because nothing good is coming out, you finally pick a game or 2 you really enjoy and decide to sink some time into (for me ESO, Dirty Bomb & Vermintide) then bang! COD, Fallout, Battlefront all release too close together for a bloke that works full time, has an active social life and 2 kids on the way. But of course I bought them all anyway because I’m forever the freakin optimist apparently.

Fallout 4. No contest. I am keen to check out Battlefront but after playing the beta I cant seeing it surviving the long run. It feels a bit hollow.

Yeah, after playing Evolve and Titanfall at release and the Battlefront beta… I’m just not good enough at multiplayer games to enjoy them as much as I used to.
Close to 2.5 days in Fallout 4 so far (admittedly a lot of that time was left in pause).

Fallout, I guess, but only because The Old Hunters isn’t out yet.
This month neither – have decided to make Battlefront a slam dunk stocking stuffer for my eldest. Fallout looks incredible and I’m tempted (seriously the review on Good Game last night put me into the buy category) but there’s at least 5 games on my pile of shame I want cleared before venturing down that rabbit hole!

Won’t get F4 till Xmas I reckon BUT even if I had it a game like that won’t get played to the weekend. It does not do “I am tired from work and it is late” sessions too easily.
Hitman: Absolution. Picked it up on a steam sale and only just got around to playing. Paid $4, played 9 hours so far. $4/9 Hours = $0.44 / Hour and not finished yet.
So much replay on that too….
I still play the Sniper Challenge with that a lot.
