Fallout 4 Graphics Mod Makes The Wasteland Look Fantastic

Fallout 4 Graphics Mod Makes The Wasteland Look Fantastic

Even the post-apocalypse can be beautiful, under the right circumstances.

Commonwealth HQ Landscape Overhaul is a mod created by a Nexus mod member known as Printerkop, and you should definitely check it out. As the name implies, it re-does the textures for Fallout 4's terrain, and the changes are pretty noticeable! The shrubbery is more distinct, there's a wider variety of terrain and rock, the soil is better, leaves look crunchier, hell, even the garbage looks more realistic.

Here's a great video by hodilton, showcasing it in action:

Or, if you'd like to see more of a before/after video, Wilsonator has got your back:

Wilsonator notes that the overhaul mod doesn't really cause performance issues, which is great news.

You can download the landscape overhaul mod here.

I've been saying this for years now! "We need MORE realistic garbage!"

What is this wizardry? That first video actually ran in fullscreen on my 21:9 monitor without black bars, top or bottom?!?!

These type of mod are why I still haven't played Falout 4

A game released this year shouldn't need a graphics mod. But it does.
"but fallout isn't about the graphics" I hear. But then what is the point of the mod?

Nothing 'needs' a graphics mod short of hard compatibility fixes, and even the best looking games end up with graphics mods. People always want to change things or push the limits and they don't have to worry about ensuring widespread compatibility in the process.

In this case, the only thing he's done is change 23 textures to be busier, and add or enhance normal maps for those same 23 textures. There's no resolution change, it's just an aesthetic change, and one I personally don't like in several of the showcased examples.

Keep in mind, Fallout 4 was developed by a small team (only around 100 people). Witcher 3 had three times that and GTA5 had ten times that.

Why not? Graphics mods are often the first substantial mod types that appear in most popular titles that have a strong modding community.

It doesn't. Might make it better, but it doesn't need it.

The mod improves the game. Doesn't mean the game is about the graphics

Consoles and low power pc's are the reason.

I'd imagine you'll take a performance hit using this mod.

It wouldn't matter how good a game looked, someone would still mod it.

I've seen a few mods for Fallout 4 alone that claim to make this or that "So much better!" graphically and the changes they make are so ridiculously minor they're almost irrelevant. To the point where you have to actively stop and look really carefully to notice the differences.

Hmmm wouldn't having crunchy leaves spayed across the ground and under trees constitute vegetation growth in the last 200 years?
