Nominate Your Favourite Handheld/Mobile Games Of The Year

Hello, time to nominate your favourite games of the year. Today we're taking a look at the mobile and handheld games.

This is a weird category for me. Mainly because, for the first time in a while, I didn't play many handheld games, and I sort of abandoned mobile gaming for the first time in years. I'm struggling to think of games I played and loved in this category. I remember a few years ago just about all of my favourite games were on the 3DS. It seems like Nintendo has kind of abandoned that platform a little.

Regardless, here are some of my nominations.

— The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask — Pac-Man 256 — Land Sliders

Tragically, that's it for me really. Can't think of anything else that really stuck out.

Nominate your favourites in the comments below. We'll put it to a vote next week!

Does Super Meat Boy on vita count? Cos that's pretty awesome.

In that case, Monument Valley on Windows Phone!

Mobile/ handheld game I played the most of this year by far was Hearthstone. In fact, it would be the only game I played daily (or nearly daily).

I concur with this 100%. It was released on mobile devices this year right? If so, without a doubt it gets my vote.

I've just started to get into Hearthstone, and it is actually quite fun. I've never been a card game player, but this is definitely a fun mobile game (but we will see how long that lasts for).

Add me to your friends list; BattleTag = Ash#11744

Me too if you're after someone to play with: ActionFlash#1839

Its had its hooks into me for nearly 6 months, and my lunchbreaks are now dedicated to Hearthstone and hopefully squeezing lunch in!

    Xenoblade 3DS.

    Monster Hunter 4.

    .......Badge Centre?

The only handheld mobile games I've played that came out this year would be:

    Yoshi's New Island - 3DS
    Angry Birds 2 - iPhone

I picked up Majora's Mask but didn't quite get the chance to play it yet. I finished Yoshi and just completed all the levels up to the latest one released on Angry Birds 2 yesterday, sooo I guess I should now fire up Majora's Mask :)

Yoshi's New Island was 2014. And is sitting on my shelf, waiting for me to be done with the Azran Legacy and Shovel Knight.

Could have sworn it was early this year but you're right, it was early last year. Jeez times gone quick.

MH4 and Shovel Knight were about the only things I really played on 3DS this year.

Actually there's Mario & Luigi Paper Jam in a week or so. That should be rad.

    Downwell

Fallout Shelter for me, mainly because it's the only one I bought / played.

Does Suikoden II count? It's technically a console game that can be played on handhelds.
I also predict that Yokai Watch will be a favourite game too.
I did enjoy Oreshika too regardless of the fact that I still haven't beaten the last boss.

The Legend of Heroes : Trails in the Sky Second Chapter

It's been the slowest year for handheld in a long time. Buts TitS SC is a legitimate great game.

I'll mention Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker here as well, but I won't be able to afford it til Christmas.

Man, enhanced spinoffs to sequels of ongoing series get really long titles.

I reckon some of these Japanese publishers just have little apps that spit out random series of english words that don't actually mean anything when placed next to each other and use that to create their titles.

Yeah, nah. It all has meaning. :-)

I support this nomination, because even though it was previously released in Japan, the language changes alone, along with the western release, qualify it, in my opinion. I'd have put it in my list below but you've got it covered :-)

    Lara Croft GO

I don't really play mobile games but I did enjoy Kung Fury and One Finger Death Punch

I played Her Story on Steam but it is on iOS too, so I guess that's the best in this category I've played. I also have a few 3DS games waiting for me from this year but can't comment on them.

Snake have you seen the graphics on that game mind blowing, also how bloody annoying is it when you fill the screen with your tail and have no where else to move.

Wait Snake is not new? Damn you Mum and Dad for buying me a new phone without these cool new games people are talking about.

Dungeon Travelers 2: The Royal Library & the Monster Seal (Vita)
    Grim Fandango Remastered (Vita)
    Hatoful Boyfried (Vita)
    Helldivers (Vita)
Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number (Vita)
Hyperdevotion Noire: Goddess Black Heart (Vita)
    IA/VT Colorful (Vita)
Kick & Fennick (Vita) (also nominated for Best Platformer)
    Octodad: Dadliest Catch (Vita)
    OlliOlli2: Welcome to Olliwood (Vita)
Persona 4: Dancing All Night (Vita) (featuring Best Girl Rise)
    Steins;Gate (Vita)
    The Swindle (Vita)

Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX (3DS) (featuring best Miku song '1/6 Out of the Gravity'

Pumped BMX 2 & Legend of Grimrock...

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. Such a deep, well made game. Much better than the other games in the series

    Monument Valley
    Alphabear
    Plants Vs Zombies 2
    Marvel Puzzle Quest

Though it technically came out last year on IOS, Bean's Dreams for Android was released recently. It's a damned shame that nobody is talking about this amazing homegrown platformer. It's amazing. So I nominate it.

Also, Horizon Chase is the best racer on any handheld in recent memory. Brilliant controls and an absolute wealth of content. No F2P crap, just pure awesomeness. So I nominate Horizon Chase too :)
