The Newest TRON Game Might Be What Became Of Tron Escape

It was announced during The Game Awards earlier this afternoon, although it was understandably easy to miss given all the other announcements going on.

That news was the existence of TRON RUN/r, a US$10 game that you can buy in Early Access. But the game wasn’t always called TRON RUN/r, as the trailer inadvertently showed.

At first, it looks like an endless runner of sorts — which would fit in with the game’s name. The Early Access description confirms that there’s a runner mode, although more modes are supposedly due to be released in the next few weeks. “Right now there’s one mode, ‘RUNNER’, that plays great,” the Steam page says.

“There are a few levels in this first build, and more will be added as they are finished. ‘CYCLE’ mode will be ready in a few weeks. In the meantime, your feedback would be great. Here it is. The truth. RUN PROGRAM! More to come.”

You can get a better idea of how it plays by watching the trailer. But that’s not all the trailer reveals. Here’s the link — the trailer hadn’t been uploaded to YouTube at the time of writing.

If you missed it, here’s a screengrab of the frame in question from the trailer.

It appears to be a shot of the game early in development, under the name Tron Escape. That dovetails with the information listed on SteamDB, which shows “Tron Escape” at various points throughout the Steam’s package history.

Gematsu reported earlier this year that Tron Escape appeared on the Brazilian rating advisory listings. Back then, the game was scheduled for a release on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

That followed on from February, when Italian dance producer Giorgio Moroder revealed that he was working on music for another video game in the TRON universe. Multiple outlets also quoted Moroder saying that he was exploring whether Skrillex would be interested remixing some of the themes.
