The great British actor Alan Rickman, famous for his roles in Harry Potter and Die Hard, has passed away.
A member of the Royal Shakespeare Company, Rickman’s breakout role with mainstream movie audiences was as the terrorist Hans Gruber in 1988’s Die Hard. High-profile parts like the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves followed, while roles like the character Jamie in Truly, Madly, Deeply showed moviegoers his versatility. But perhaps Rickman’s most memorable role was Professor Severus Snape in the Harry Potter films.
According to The Guardian, Rickman had been diagnosed with cancer, and the BBC reports that his family released the following statement: “The actor and director Alan Rickman has died from cancer at the age of 69. He was surrounded by family and friends.”

Shoot the glass R.I.P Alan Rickman
I think you ought to know I’m feeling very depressed. 🙁
He is finally sitting on a beach, earning twenty percent. RIP Mr Gruber.
This cut my heart out with a spoon 🙁 RIP Sheriff
Still think my favourite role was The Metatron from Dogma:
“Do you drench everyone that comes into your room with flame retardant chemicals?! No wonder you’re single…”
RIP
Dogma, Galaxy Quest, Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy, Die Hard, Alan Rickman was too good for this world.
Hear, hear.
Well this is horrible 🙁
Now I’ll never find out who killed dumbledore.
I’m surprised no one mentioned Love Actually, a movie I hate but most love. RIP Mr Rickman.
Two great British artists dead from cancer at age 69 in the same week.
This is such bullshit.
Lemmy had only turned 70 days before his death. Practically 69 and cancer too. And British!
I was thinking that too, but he didn’t die in the same week. Near enough, though. Three British greats. Cancer. Same age. Same time. I’m sick of this year already.
