Whether it’s Ralph McQuarrie’s original vision or more recent efforts, Star Wars is famous for its sweet vehicle designs. Yet over the past month, talented LEGO builders have been messing with the iconic Snowspeeders and X-Wings, redesigning them to either look more contemporary, or just look cooler.
They’re entries in a competition over on From Bricks To Bothans called Star Wars Evolved (via The Brothers Brick), where builders have been asked to take existing Star Wars vehicle designs and mess with them. There weren’t many rules outside the fact every build had to be from scratch (not a modification of an existing LEGO set), so loads of the designs have been pretty interesting, some opting for humour, others for style.
Below are some of my favourites from the submissions.

I have trouble building a cube in lego.
I just realised something… In Star wars, in a galaxy with an english language that has a completely alien alphabet that goes with it, why does the Awing look like our ‘A’?
….
Goddamn you, this information cannot be unlearned.
Same could be said about the X-Wing & Y-Wing. Only the B-Wing doesn’t match the letter profile.
does anyone actually name the ships in the films? or is it just what we call them?
I know that in Empire Strikes Back, some Imperial underling says to Vader “Ship approaching, X-wing class.” So…we have that, at least.
Ever noticed a TIE-Fighter looks like a bow tie?
The ‘B’ in the B-Wing stands for Blade, its origin is explained in an season 2 episode of Star Wars Rebels. As far as I’m aware the letters for the A-Wing and X-Wing dont stand for anything
Does the Y Wing actually pivot itself on the ground ike that? Can’t recall seeing them land that way. Reminds of the of Trade Fed fighters.
No they don’t but I still think that is an awesome redesign of the Y wing.
