Up until the very end of this commercial, the entire thing comes across as a Nike ad — not something about Pokémon. That’s just how fierce it is.
As of late, Pokémon advertisements have really stepped up their game. I think back on the stuff for Pokémon Go, the upcoming mobile spin-off for example….
Both of these commercials really play off the idea of Pokémon’s as a real-world thing, which is smart. That’s the entire fantasy of it; wishing that the critters we train and battle could follow us into our actual lives.
What really gets me about the ad, however, is that it’s not actually advertising any specific product. It’s more about the legacy of Pokémon, about reminding us that it’s been twenty years since the franchise debuted on our Game Boys. Damn.

Does anyone else kinda hate how Gyarados just floats over land like that? Not only does it look silly, but I always thought of him more of a water/dragon type. Water pokemon should be in water..

Still feel they could have put a bit more effort in on the pokemon themselves.

Games used to be about having fun, just for gamers. Not for money. Now its less about games and how much money they can make. Hence all the negativity. If you dont think all the marketing stunts the big companies are pulling (ubisoft) then you are clueless my friend. This trailer is a great example.
Everything put out by a company besides the games themselves is marketing. Doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy it. I found this to be pretty fun.
Marketing for excitement is one thing and marketing to paint lies for gamers is another. Personally, i find cgi trailers or live trailers to be nothing but a waste. It has no value to me. Because at the end of the day the end product is whats important. Thats why i dont believe or get hyped at anything i see at e3. %99 of it is about making money. Hundreds of examples out there.
Would have been better if they went for more realism in the pokemon rather than obvious cartoony 3D models. What better way to show pokemon in real life other than you know, make them look realistic.
