Good morning. I hope everyone had a lovely weekend.
Morning.
Worked Sat but Mummy and Tiglet came to visit so we went out and had a nice lunch.
Finished off Mrs Tigs all scout run in Renowned explorers that night which was good.
Sunday I drove up to Ballarat and was planning to go watch the cycling but with the heat ended up just staying at Mum and Dad. Got Dad’s help with fixing the pram and after he went through basically the same process as me and then needed a bunch of tool I didn’t have I didn’t feel so bad about running home to Daddy the moment I needed some manual work done.
Then went out and had a nice dinner before heading home.
Wasn’t a bad weekend all told, though I managed to get pretty badly sunburnt on my neck and shoulders, so I now feel like I’m wearing a shirt made of sandpaper…
So I bought some games from Harvey Norman online as a part of that sale last week, and I received an email from a store in North qld asking if I’d accept their demo unit copy of Forza 6 as it’s the last one in stock.
I said yes, but daaamn that’s weird inventory management for such a large retailer!
Also, I modified my pebble time round by adding a Seiko bezel insert. It looks fantastic and protects against scratches!

Cost me a couple of bucks, courtesy of eBay.
Hola mi amigos!
How were your weekends? Mine was pretty uneventful, just worked mainly. Bought and played a bit of Punch Club, it’s a bit grind-y, but fun.
HI TAY.
First day back at work.
I DONT WANNA. MAKE IT STOP.
Still, only took 9 minutes to walk here. not bad.
Holidays were… well. not exactly productive. but good.
became an uncle on xmas day. kid was week & a half overdue. and apparently quite big.
Saw Star Wars. Liked it, but it was pretty much exactly the same plot as episode IV.
Finished Fallout 4. Really liked it. Ending is probably the blandest ending i’ve seen since vanilla Mass Effect 3. Hopefully the DLC gives it a bit more of a satisfying send off.
I actually finished reading a book for the first time in a year! Girt by David Hunt. it’s a history of Australia, but with a bit more detail than the standard shit. Also, it focuses on the more ridiculous & absurd parts of the story. Not a bad lite read.
Started reading Handling the Undead by the guy who wrote Let the Right One In. Pretty much the swedish version of Stephen King. Been noticing a trend recently about fiction that this book fits that involves undead that arent standard zombies. just people who used to be dead who now arent. great idea, but goddamn. really hope it’s not overdone.
anyway. also been playing Wasteland 2. Just left Arizona. Goddamn thats a difficulty spike. might have to grind a bit before i can go much further. but my crew are currently at about 25% health each, with no med kits left & in an area with irradiated puppies.
anyway. procrastinating.
hows things with you lot?
Fallout 4 is probably the only game that has made me slightly sick to my stomach from all the killing
since the end part is basically pick a side and then go betray and murder the others to the last man woman and child, if the kids could die. Having to slaughter characters I’d worked with and fought alongside not to mention ones like the institute scientists who can only run screaming as they get shot in the back… Was kind of a horrible end really. But fitting with the “war never changes” motto I guess.FO4 spoilers
kill everyone? really?no idea what you did, but that was not my experience. FWIW, I was a member of the Minutemen, Railroad & Brotherhood, turned the institute down. Got the minutemen to build the teleporter, Railroad suggested I go to the minutemen to storm the institute. in the last mission, only the synths were hostile. scientitsts hid / ran, but i didnt shoot any of them. didnt have to.
post-story, institute are gone & the other 3 factions (as far as I’m aware) aren’t hostile to me at all. can still do missions for each of em & all.
Like you, I chose the rather neutral minuteman ending where I didn’t contact the Brotherhood at all and simply used the Railroad to bolster our ranks since it was also our opportunity to freem ore synths. If you choose Brotherhood (by stealing the Beryllium agitator for Liberty Prime), they force you to go and personally slaughter the entire Railroad. If you choose to fully back the Railroad, they force you to plant bombs on the Prydwen which kills everyone even if you successfully stealth it – if not, you slaughter ever last member of the BoS, THEN blow up the Prydwen (this is the ending my wife got).I assume if you choose to side with the Institute, which is what I plan to do on my third playthrough, you’ll need to kill both the BoS and the Railroad.
I sided with the railroad. Endgame kicks off with the BoS attacking the hideout so it’s decided they have to die. Then you go storm their police station to steal a vertibird (kill everyone is the only option) then fly it to the Prydwin and blow it up, killing everyone aboard. Then it’s the Institute. The plot is you are undercover there to set up a synth rebellion. So they all think you are their new leader but then you kick things off by going to the teleporter control room, killing everyone and tping the railroad in. Then it’s carnage to the power plant. Supposedly you are letting all non combatants out free but the rebel synths just go nuts and shoot everything that moves. So by the time you nuke the joint (too bad if anyone was living nearby the cit ruins ey) I assume there’s not many not already dead.
So fun times.
Yayyyyy! One more like me! I turned 30 on christmas day 😀
Oh god, holidays are over. So many people at the station. So many support tickets waiting in my inbox.
Is the Far Cry 4 Valley Of The Yeti’s DLC a massive buggy mess for anyone else?
I’m finding that mission triggers don’t fire correctly most of the time, often necessitating me leaving the area and coming back in. The nightly base defence ones are the worst, the enemy take forever to actually get to the base and when they finally do they sit just outside visual range for minutes at a time so I have to just fire grenades blindly in the right direction hoping to get a kill and disturb them into action. Then when I’ve finally got the last one in that wave, I have to go out near to the point where it warns you’re leaving the mission area and then on the way back it triggers the next wave.
Similarly the missions where you have to hijack a truck don’t work right, I have to leave the area where you get the mission to trigger the next stage which usually means going back to the starting area to get that trigger to fire and update the objective with the right waypoint.
It utterly perplexes me how they can break the red dot, marksman & reflex optics in the DLC when they worked perfectly in the base game and the weapons haven’t changed. I’ve had weapons just not work, the bow has been invisible more than once as were the arrows meaning it couldn’t be used, I’ve seen a pistol I just picked up not rendering the barrel and not functioning, it’s far from uncommon in the menu to see weapons just missing bits like the entire frame and only showing things like the trigger and bolt…
It’s not some weird thing that’s only happening to me is it? This is easily the sloppiest thing I’ve seen in ages which is a real shame given that, much like the main game, there’s a hell of a lot of fun if you can dig through the crap it’s coated in.
I’m probably going to find out at some point. I still haven’t finished FC4’s main campaign.
Hola Tay
Had a buuuuusy weekend that started on Thursday.
This weekend was my dad’s 60th birthday, so pretty much his entire side of the family came to Kapunda for it. Started off by picking my cousin and his wife up at the airport Thursday night and heading up there, and getting jumped all over by the Labrador.
Friday, we went out for a long lunch at Artisans of the Barossa, a big cellar door restaurant, for my cousin’s birthday which is also around this time. It was fantastic, course after course of tasting plates al washed down with local craft beers and wine (of course).
Saturday morning we helped set up, lifted a lot of tables and chairs and packed eskies, but just before the party started we made ourselves scarce with dad. You see, he wanted to make an entrance, so he hired a local tourist helicopter company to chopper him into our paddock, and my brother and I rode from their site over the Barossa with him. Certainly made an entrance, and as our present my brother and I hired a red carpet so he could make an even more ostentatious entrance.
Speeches went well, though a little long, my speech was really well received which is good, as I was worried. My Uncle (a former jazz teacher) got to have a jam with the band which was nice, they did a really cool reggae style version of “Land Downunder” and a big deconstructed version of Mustang Sally.
I drank a lot of wine
I drank a LOT of wine.
After about 4 hours sleep, got up on Sunday and helped pack up before limping back to Adelaide, exhausted. Still pretty tired but not too bad today, more emotionally and socially exhausted.
A Monday Morning question: How would you make a grand entrance3 to your birthday party?
Ride in on a unicorn made of lightning.
That only works if its farting rainbows as well.
I’d love to have a rock’n’roll party and turn up in a cadillac. That would be fun. I really enjoyed the car I had for my wedding: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=7133936766&l=83d6064740
Slightly different but quite similar to what we had which was the mark 5 Jaguar
http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd405/WNxTigerion/car_zpskmciadxc.jpg
Very nice. My mother disapproved because the car was black. I considered it awesome (and it was a seven seater, so all the girls got to ride together)
Black on something like that is perfect. The only issue we had with ours was it was a 40 degree day and our driver said we had the choice between having the air con on or getting there.
“We shall park in an air-conditioned car and drink away the wedding. When we run halfway out of booze, lots will be drawn and the brave loser will be cast into the wastes to go fetch more booze. Our guests will understand.”
If we had food and booze in the car that might very well have happened.
Although air con from a 1950 car isn’t really suited to 40 degrees.
Would more be a case of here is some air blowing on you that might be slightly cooler than the rest of the air
“…Maybe.”
Mornin’ all.
I’m glad I got free postage on this item I bought Friday, cause it’s gone from the Gold Coast to Sydney now to the outskirts of Brisbane to be delivered to me tomorrow I would assume. I just don’t understand why this happened though.
Finally got around to downloading Dead Island on Steam a week or so ago, but when I launch it all I get is a black screen with sound. Tried various things suggested by google searches, but nothing seems to work. Any of you guys been able to get it to work?
Dead island..I remember I had to do some weird finicky shit to get mine to work like launch in windowed mode then change to full screen in game and there was a 50/50 chance it would actually work. If you get it to work but it’s a fun game
So it looks like I’ll be alone at home on Friday night, which feels like a good chance to get as many people to jump in to a screw-around sort of game. Anyone interested in Just Cause 2 multi or GTA Online, you should download/update it before then! (Just Cause 2 Multi is a free mod).
Tagging people who I’ve played with before/have JC2MP or GTA in their library: @pixel_the_ferret_viking @cakesmith @sernobulus @f4ction @blaghman @mythamphetamine @gorzilla @rocketman @zetrox2k @transientmind @35 @tigerion @ynefelI’m in! Is alcohol encouraged? I feel copious amounts of alcohol should be encouraged.
I’ll probably have a wine or two…
I’m in!
I do have Just Cause 2 installed…
Though I won’t be home on Friday…
Awh, no can do. Driving down to Tweed South on Friday night.
(Edit: And then, back up to Brissie on Saturday in time for a nice evening out.)
I could do this…
\o/
I’ve been on Steam like once in the past 6 months so I will be spending the entire week getting everything updated. 😛
Yussss, I’ll make sure to download JC2 tonight in preparation!
http://www.kotaku.com.au/2016/01/just-cause-3-is-perfect-for-playing-jenga/
I wonder if this is possible in JC2?
I would say “probably not” but I reckon finding out ourselves will be far more fun 😀
BUS JENGA!
You… I like you.
im up for it! just cause 2 is installed and up to date. i have GTAV up to date on PS4, but dont own it on pc… tempted to grab it on pc if its a regular occurence…
The usual PC GTA people haven’t played it much for a while so it’s probably not worth it. There’s a good chance it’ll be mostly JC2MP cause almost everyone has it 😛
TAY i made a mistake, a wonderful wonderful mistake…
Decided to load up Dark Souls on steam yesterday because I wanted to check something on my old character… Realised my old character has been lost due to the whole GFWL removal… Then realised that with the addition of it now using Steam Works, they have added achievements, WHICH I HAVEN’T EARNED ANY AT ALL!
Thinking “Well that just won’t do” I have created a new character and started rediscovering Dark Souls all over again!
What a terrible mistake *gleeful smile*
I’m tempted to give the game another crack now that enough time has passed but considering all the new stuff that I’m trying to juggle it’s probably a bad idea.
Which means I’ll probably do it.
Praise the Steamworks!
FYI, there was something you could do by launching in beta mode of something that bypassed the GFWL and let you load up your old profiles. Not sure if that was a limited time thing or not.
Morning all!
What an awful way to start the week. Walk in, my boss (who just got back from on leave) said ‘Oh yeah, you know that thing you’ve been slaving away on for the last 2 weeks and just worked all weekend to get finished? The owners of the company only just reviewed it (having received multiple drafts, but you know…), they hate it, and we need to redo it… Today.’
I am less than pleased.
Welp you know what you need to do…burn the building down
Good morning all!
This weekend counts as my first XCOM Board Game win without a single continent ending in the high panic/full panic area. We just wrecked the aliens this playthrough with barely any UFOs still in the air. Felt good to get a win like that, but now our next real test is trying to do everything within the time limits for each as playing on Easy allows for infinite pause time, the future difficulties do not have infinite pause time, so that’ll be interesting when we dabble into our first Normal difficulty playthrough. Keep in mind there’s also a Hard and Expert difficulty too… 😛
In other news, thanks to the assistance of @welbot (Thanks again buddy!), I have begun preparations for a new PC, I’ve already grabbed my new second monitor and secondary hard drive, with the new Case and SSD drive on order to be brought in for pickup next week. So it’s happening! Techstation 2.0 will be brought to life very soon, then I can play any game at hopefully the highest setting, AND I can finally start on games such as Witcher 2, eventually 3 as well as Dragon Age Inquisition. 😀
I totally forgot to even ask what the max res of the screen was. (Shouldn’t matter, but out of curiosity, what was it?)
1920×1080 if memory serves, as all games I play were in borderless/windowed.
The monitor I mentioned to you before was the monitor I have now (22in W), with a smaller older BenQ that I’ll be replacing (20in W).
Cool cool. Should have no issues being able to max pretty much everything! My system is way older (except for the GTX960) and worst case, I have to drop my res from 2160p to 1440p to get things running smooth like butter, but most things run surprisingly well at 2160p which I was pleased with 🙂
Resolution isn’t that big of a priority for me, high quality textures at 60FPS though… 🙂
well I get that at 2160p 90% of the time, so I can’t imagine you’ll have too many issues 😉
Spent the weekend trying to clean up a few games from my Xbox One hard drive since I’ve received a number of free games via Games with Gold and never got around to playing them thanks to Destiny and Fallout 4. Turns out some of them are pretty good so I won’t be deleting them anytime soon, and consequently didn’t get through as many as expected because I spent more time playing them instead of deleting and moving on.
Magic Duels: really short story mode which I finished in a couple of sittings. Made some custom decks and played vs. bots a few times, don’t really see myself doing this long-term enough to earn the coins to buy more boosters and make crazy complex killer decks – and I’m sure not going to buy boosters with real money. Had my fun, deleted.
How to Survive (Storm Warning Edition): a fun little isometric survival/zombie game. I can see the appeal if you’re willing to sink time into it, it seems to basically be a roguelike too, since if you die you start over. Maybe there’s a checkpointing system I was too inept to reach/figure out. On my second playthrough the first quest-giver broke and kept telling me to do the thing I had just done instead of giving me the next quest step, so I gave up and decided it was not the game for me.
Rayman Legends: solid, fun and good looking platformer. Great fun. Sent about three hours with it and barely scratched the surface of the content, plus I think it’ll have a lot of replay value that scratches a tiny little perfectionist itch I get sometimes. Will happily revisit this one.
Killer Instinct: all the season 1 content went free this month so I downloaded it again after getting tired of the initial offering quite quickly (hated being stuck playing one character at a time). Played a couple of story modes on easy, did some training which was incredibly daunting, got my ass handed to me by a friend who noticed I was playing and decided to challenge me. Still had fun. I’ll keep the game installed though I don’t imagine I’ll revisit it often as I’m not much of a fighting game guy.
Child of Light: better than I expected, I played it to the first boss and unlocked the ability to fly so I’ve just been zooming around exploring the various areas of the map I couldn’t reach before. A very pretty game, pleasant to play, not really sure if it’s “fun” enough to revisit. Might save it for a rainy day, so to speak.
So Many Me: after being disappointed with Chariot some time back (which admittedly seems to be intended as a co-op game, so I didn’t really give it a proper chance) I didn’t expect to like this overly cutesy puzzle-platformer. However, it surprised me. It’s fun and quite inventive with it’s mechanics. Some of the puzzles are quite tricky and, at least from what I’ve seen so far, balances thinking out the puzzles with platforming skill quite well.
Games I am yet to get to:
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes
Pneuma: Breath of Life
Thief (funnily we bought this digitally on my wife’s account when we only had one Xbox, then we got it free)
Massive Chalice
and probably something else I’m forgetting.
Pretty good weekend for gaming, I think.
Morning, TAY!
On the weekend I went to the Sydney Festival’s Doughnut Bar and they were out of doughnuts.
Ha!,that’s like the day I went down to Chicken Treat* & they were out of chicken :3
*Perth’s answer to Ted Rooster, but they have Red Rooster too
The KFC closest to my parents place would constantly run out of chicken.
Or that’s what they told you.
They probably just heard about what you like to do with them.
These doughnuts had ice cream in them. It’s right up my alley.
Ah, the new water cooling stuff that Swiftech showed off at CES looks awesome & has me thinking of maybe water cooling in the near future.
I’m considering it when I get around to a new PC later this year (likely after the Nvidia Pascal GPUs come out)
Yeah that’s what i’m thinking, i’m thinking going a Skylake build soon-ish & moving to a new GPU once the new series comes out since my 760 is going pretty good. But i’m also thinking of going to 1440P monitors too so that would require a new GPU 😛
You might be surprised, I’ve got a Dell U2711 @ 2560×1440 and I can play most games on medium at least with a GTX 670.
Ooh nice. Doesn’t surprise me, i’m able to max out Far Cry 4 at 1080P and see a solid 40FPS, including the Nvidia game works or whatever turned on.
On the watercooling note, have you done any watercooling before? I’m tempted by doing a full custom loop with the rigid tubing etc (ala Jayztwocents on Youtube), but the AIO units look good for simplicity’s sake.
Nope. I wanna do hardline, cause it’s pretty. But I probably shouldn’t for a first time build 😛 JayzTwoCents is great, his videos on water cooling have really made me want to do it. But I still can’t find a nice case that i’d wanna put water cooling in. Everything I like is mostly ITX & not a water cooling case.
I’ve been looking and I keep coming back to the Corsair Air 240 for a small case or the NZXT H440 for a full tower.
The 240 is my pick for an ITX case with a window it’s just so nice. Then again so is the 540 for MATX.
Hellloooo, fellow apes!
*grunts*
oook?
Good morning fellow taybies!
Firstly, a much belated happy new year and christmas to you all.
Back to work today! woo!
How are you all!? How were your yule tides?
I have had 2 dreams about PAX in as many weeks.. I have a problem.
Turns out I kinda suck at W40K: Conquest at the moment 🙁
haha really?
Who you been playing with?
What faction have you been using? Tau would be my guess?
… Necrons? Necrons.
They aren’t out yet, but they’ll be my main certainly. I’m thinking Necrons with slave Space Marines to take advantage of AoE, unless I can’t use them (I didn’t see if it had a limit on the slavery mechanic, alliance mechanic does have limits, like can’t use loyal units but can use common), then I’ll have to think of something else
They aren’t due for release until Feb, i think 🙂
Well then what’s even the point?
Blood for the blood god?
Is there a Kharn the Betrayer card? Easily my favourite 40k character – so fun when he does well, so infuriatingly awful when he turns on you.
@cffndncr
No, no Kharn yet, unfortunately 🙁 The only chaos characters at the moment are a sorcerer and a greater daemon of Nurgle.
He would be really cool in play, though.
I’d actually like to see how someone like that would play.
What’s weird is that the space marines get 2 proper popular named characters in Cato Sicarius and Ragnar Blackmane, yet Chaos doesn’t seem to get the same.
I actually still need to get him for tabletop, but i keep kind of hoping they’d re-do his mini. That being said, the current mini isn’t actually all that bad – certainly much better than failbaddon.
I’ve been playing with a friend who’s been playing card games for over a decade (He’s currently designing his own deckbuilding game), so I guess there’s a mindset skill gap of massive proportions. We’ve been trying all the races, so far we’ve done (With me on the left side):
Tau vs. Dark Eldar (Win) – I just had bad card draw to cope with the sheer numbers he threw at me. His token cards had 2 damage each, it was brutal to try and bring this one back. Also he sacrificed my hammerhead, wasn’t a good one for a first game.
Space Marines (Win) vs Dark Eldar – Main reason I won with Space Marines was cuz I took advantage of his mob rushing with commander and slaughtered his entire army with two AoE attacks.
Chaos vs Orks (Win) – This was down to the wire, he mainly won cuz he had initiative on the last battle, simple as that. Either his commander or mine were going to die this fight, because somehow we managed to play this one where it was only able to be won with a commder dying as we were at the last planet and neither of us were able to make 3 of one type of planet victory type. I still don’t know how that happened but it did.
Eldar vs Imperial Guard (Win) – I was getting outplayed in command struggles so resource difference was massive, I had to try an all out attack to bloody his commander in one shot to at least have a chance of sneaking an assassination for later on, he blocked with an event that sacrificed another unit to nullify all damage. So I conceded as that costed my entire hand and all resources I had left, too difficult to come back from as I was already behind.
Sounds pretty brutal.
Space Marines do tend to be the easiets deck to win with. Them and Orks. Definately the best by far for beginners.
Dark Eldar can be brutal, but it’s also a matter of pulling the right cards.
Imperial Guard can be a bitch to fight against just for sheer mass too.
Haven’t played with your nids yet, though???
No, I’m waiting until I have a grasp on the game until I start digging into those, mainly cuz there’s also WAY more cards to look through and make into an actual deck first.
Anyone else psyched for Oxenfree this week? Plays like an Until Dawn/Telltale style game, with spiffy 2D art. http://store.steampowered.com/app/388880/
I wasn’t, but I might be now.
Yessss, we can compare notes and hopefully fall in love with it, Life is Strange-style. 🙂
Well if we’re doing it Life Is Strange style I need to wait 8 months and play it when 75% of the content has been released.
Okay, maybe not Life is Strange-style. I don’t want them to cut this game into episodes. 😛
Fine, I’ll add it to my wishlist
Hi all! Hope everyone had great weekends. Mine was swallowed by a (now) level 37 Sith Inquisitor with a propensity for shocking people every time the dialogue tree let me. Which was, shall we say, a lot. 😛 Just found out my new apprentice doesn’t like random acts of cruelty, tho. Boo.
Still, Ashora’s the best option I’ve got atm – alternatives are “space pirate Steve Blum,” “self-confessed useless robot” and “once-cool Dashade who had his body taken over by my old master and now creeps me the hell out.”Really enjoying it thus far, but kinda glad I waited until post-4.0 to play it – can just focus on the story and class missions and get enough XP to not worry about sidequests. I hear it was a hell of a grind when it first came out…
I wouldn’t call the old stuff grindy. I quite liked the amount of time needed on each planet because it made each area feel more fleshed out. Having said that, once you get into alt characters the repetition can get tiresome.
You have a lot of luck in starting now with the way support characters work, though. You used to be almost locked into using the one the best complimented your character in terms of function (i.e. tank of healer) for much of your time, but now you can use whoever you like and just pick the role you want them to fulfil.
Yea, I did find it a little odd that a Dashade was such a proficient healer, considering every other statement is something along the lines of “I will devour you, little Sith”. 😛
Re the grind thing – I’d heard of people completing everything in one area and barely having the XP required to be on par with the recommended base level for the next area. But my main point was I just wanted to play it for the story/stories, so had it required the levelling rate and menial busywork that drove me from BC-era WoW, GW2 and ESO, I’d not have even considered playing TOR. Currently, it feels like KotoR 3, which is just right, as far as I’m concerned… especially as I’ve got another two huge RPGs I want to get through in the next 4-6 months.
I’m still bummed by the Oculus price, and the new status as ‘unemployed’ coming at the same time kinda sealing the deal of not ordering one.
Is anyone here going through with buying a Rift at launch?
Now to work out some potential new employment ideas…
From the post on last Tay I gather the only one getting a launch Rift will be Mr Taco since he kickstartered it.
Shame really as it could be cool.
Also have you considered medical experiments? They pay pretty good for little effort.
I usually just perform them on others.
Krieger?
Yup.
Tooled around with the Fallout 4 settlement building stuff a bit more on the weekend – powered a building and filled it with TV, jukebox, disco ball, strobe light just for a laugh.
Then built a reasonably large monstrosity of a building twice as big as the slab size, went up several levels. OK, that was a little fiddly but achievable.
Then went back to random wandering and watched the town happiness drop from 80 to 60. Geez… I know it’s a bit ugly, but it seemed better than an empty slab instead of a building. Guess not.
Status update: 50hrs of play, level 30, still haven’t gone to diamond city.
Yes! Another member of the “FUCK YOU GAME, I AIN’T GOIN TO DIAMOND CITY” club! \o/
Wait… It’s me saying that. So there’s still only 1 member of the club.
I was still 45 before going to Diamond City.
I was all, “I’m ON TO YOU, game! You’re gonna PLOT at me as soon as I get there!”
Every time I see Diamond security on the streets I immediately turn around and start running.
I’m only 10 hours in but think I’m coming to the conclusion that I might need to revise my plans
I don’t think themantic runs are viable, seems to be a very specific way to play that they are setting you up for.
Was planning to avoid power armour, but from everything I’m seeing that just doesn’t seem viable.
Eh, I’ve collected and stashed it – haven’t been using PA at all, and my treasure trove of fusion cores just keeps growing and growing.
Ok, good to know. My River Tam run might still be viable
Looking at the game I think they require you to wear it when the questline takes you to the southern part of the map but outside of that I haven’t used mine at all!
After getting a bit too casual around the office with our swearing, my workmates and I have decided to instigated a swear jar ($1 per swear) for the IT office. We’ve decided to use the funds to donate to Oxfam; specifically, the money will be used to buy goats ($39 each) for people in need in places like Mozambique.
Fun fact: The jar came into effect at 9am this morning. We’ve already made $26.
“Please… No more goats…”
“Fuck you, we’ll send as many goats as we goddamn want; whiny little shit!
*puts $3 in the goat jar*
Ticketek still charge you $8 extra for them to send you your tickets via email, huh 😛
Hey now those e-stamps are expensive.
We have an e-tree shortage, not enough Seeds on the internet.
Need to do more for the e-nvironment
We have more than plenty of e-fertilizer from youtube comments and twitch chat rooms alone
I’m one of those people that keeps movie and show tickets in a box, so it’s kinda nice that there’s such negligible difference between printing your ticket or getting a “proper” one. I mean it still sucks being gouged at every step, but at least it removes a difficult decision from the process 😛
Those bastards really are flirting with the edge of the drip pricing regulations.
Really would like to see them back off from that shit. Maybe they can fuck up enough to cop another multi-million fine to put them on their best behaviour for a while.
The bullshit one that I think is beyond that is charging a booking fee per ticket rather than per booking.
Absolutely. If it’s a cost for every ticket, it should be part of the face vale. Booking fee, if there absolutely must be one, should be a single per-transaction fee.
And print-your-own for $7 – GET FUCKED. I do venue/outlet pick-up every time as there’s a handy outlet on my way home from work and like Gooky I like a “proper ticket” for the scrapbook.
Man, the more I think about it the more I come close to thinking that I just didn’t enjoy The Force Awakens.
You’re not the only one
Yeah, it did seem a little… forced *shows himself out*
Geez not even waiting till page 2 now! 😛
You’re a good man.
I enjoyed it, but there were some disappointments and some jarring things that were a bit on the nose. Jolted me back to reality, realizing, “Oh hey, I am a person sitting in a theatre, watching a movie where certain things have to happen because it is a movie.”
Hoping a bunch of those unexplored questions and face-value blandness is really just hidden secrets and depths which will be explored in the sequels. Force Awakens may actually end up being a better movie in light of its successor.
I think it was a great kids movie.
Yeah there was a lot in there that could be really crap or really good depending on what they do with the next movie. As a standalone its just a good popcorn flick.
So I crossed the 150 hour mark in Xenoblade X over the weekend. Longest I’ve spent with one game in a while. And I’ve still got heaps left to do, wouldn’t be surprised if I hit 200 hours eventually.
I just bought a new mech which skates on wheel-legs instead of running and has thrusters that open like phoenix wings when flying. It’s amazing.
I still think the first Xenoblade is better overall (so play that first if you haven’t), but this is very good fun as well.
I’ve played like 7 hours 😀
I think I was at like 5 tops. And at least one of them was spent in the character creator.
That’s not what you told me!
Yes I did! I said play it on PC via emulator because it’s the best way to play it 😛
(You just don’t have to play it first to understand the story or anything because they’re unrelated)
If you feel like it, do you care to spend many words on why the original is better?
I am curious.
IMO, of course! Your mileage may vary.
The original feels more like a “normal” JRPG. Main focus is the linear story, etc. Has a small-ish set of playable characters that all have distinct roles (both in the story and gameplay wise – everybody plays completely differently). Also has a draw of character-character relationships (they all have little side-stories with each other that flesh them out)
X is kinda more like an MMO. The story is told differently because it’s non-linear. The main story is split up into sequential missions, but the actual meat of the game is in the tonnes of world-building quests which flesh out the world and characters. There are lots more playable characters too but (other than two “main” side characters which you’re forced to use in story missions) never contribute anything to the main story (they all have little separate mission arcs that focus on them, but they don’t often interact with each other like in the first game).
I’m not saying the sequel is bad (I mean, I’ve been playing it for 150 hours :P), it’s just different and will depend on what you prefer. (X is better than the original in a lot of other ways too! eg. the battle system is way better)
HELLO AND WELCOME TO 3302. HAPPY NEW YEAR.
Sorry it’s belated, I was having a holiday from all internets except those required for my gaming. Back at work today…
@pixel_the_ferret_viking @rize I’m 13kly out… Hull at 5%… Arse clenched…
Standing by! We’ll organise and evening to escort you back! I’ll kit a combat vessel for long range combat
Heheh had a couple of others put their hands up too.
You know what’s going to happen? We’ll have a rendezvous 150ly out from Pratchett’s Disc. We’ll wing up. We’ll make the last few jumps in. We’ll supercruise to the station, and we won’t see anyone and we’ll land uneventfully…
…and I’ll crash into the pad and explode.
And then we’ll drink to make up for the loss 😛
Keen.
*pops in with a Sidewinder, slows everyone down*
Oh man and you don’t have an SRV to be able to land on a planet and salvage materials to create more AFM ammo either. Assuming you ha-
Oh wait I just remembered it only repairs modules not hull.
Yeah. I reckon hull repairs should be possible on planets with a breathable atmosphere in a future update (and topping up the life support reserves too). Find materials, find suitable landing spot on a suitable planet, and repair some of the hull. I hope so, anyway.
Imperial Hammer required? 😛
Managed another 1kly last night… aiming to get close by the weekend so maybe Sunday is the day of triumphant near-success and snatching defeat from the jaws of victory…
Uh.. So someone on eBay just asked me to ship a graphics to them in Puerto Rico, uh, noop, sorry. But that’s gonna be like $80, all i’m asking as the buy it now price for the graphics card..
Well that’s awful news, David Bowie has passed away 🙁 Turns out he had cancer, and he only released his new album 2 days ago as well.
But damn. First Lemmy now Bowie, I was under the impression these musicians whose music I love were immortal damn it 🙁
I think everyone thought Bowie was immortal
I know right?
…so who do we know of that’s 68 at the moment?
George RR Martin? There’s plenty, too many I like D=
69 appears to be the new 27. 🙁
Yeah 67-71 seems the age these guys are parting ways. Lemmy, Dio, Bowie, Jon Lord, Lou Reed, Joe Cocker, Stevie Wright, that’s about all I can think of off the top of my head.
Moved into my new place permanently over the weekend. I was going to do it earlier, but someone swiped the cable modem that UPS left on my doorstep at the temp place so I had to buy a second one and pay extra to get it shipped. So glad to be out of that shithole.
Started unboxing stuff. PC is set up again for the first time in two months. So far everything has survived the move with a few minor nicks and scratches here and there, with the exception of one of my favourite anime figures. I was really worried she might not make it so asked the packer to be extra careful. He wasn’t, Shoved another model on top of her (fuck you Starscream) and snapped her sword in half at the handle as well as bending it slightly. I think the bend will fix itself given time, but the handle is going to be tricky. May be able to drill into it with a pin vice and add some brass wire to glue it together. There’s not enough there to hold it together with just glue, unfortunately. I’m not sure drilling’s a good idea either, as it’s clear plastic on one side and metal on the other. The figure had an alternative sword set but I don’t know where those optional parts are, possibly still in Australia. 🙁 So that sucks.
The bigger suckage though is that the brand new 4K TV I bought in the Black Friday sales has a cracked LCD. It was fine when I got it delivered in November but it’s sat in a corner since then and I assume it cracked when I put it in my car and brought it over here. Going to ring Sony and find out what it costs to replace the panel but I’m thinking it’ll probably be a write-off and I’ll be paying the same amount again for another one. Sucks as I’d earmarked that cash for a new bed so I’m not sleeping in a single bed in an enormous room. It feels like I’m camping out in someone’s empty living room right now. 🙁 So glad to be in my comfy bed though even if it is small. Slept 12 hours last night.
Upvote for the new place not the broken stuffs
Always good to get into a place that is yours.
Found out last night – or rather early this morning – that the place is ultra noisy too. Main bedroom has an enormous window that backs straight out onto the extension of the 520 freeway so there’s huge trucks going up and down constantly in the mornings. 🙁
Bugger. It is something you can get used to but I really, really like quiet when I try to go to sleep
Mrs Tigs needs it, can’t sleep with noise about
I don’t mind noise as long as it’s repetitive background stuff. Which is why I’m thinking a white noise machine might be a good idea to help drown out some of the other noise.
Hello friends – it has been a while since I was here last. Perhaps some of you remember me from years back, I pop up from time to time on Twitter, mostly with feeble attempts at humour. You can think of me as the father that went out for cigarettes and came back a couple of years later.
Anyhow, just wanted to quickly check in and see if any of you fine people are planning to go to RTX AU next weekend, i’d love to meet up with some people that I used to talk with on here! If there is already some TAY thread about RTX AU somewhere, feel free to redirect me to it in lieu of a response.
Thankyou!
Something happened on the day he died
Spirit rose a metre and stepped aside
Somebody else took his place, and bravely cried
I’m a blackstar, I’m a blackstar
I’m shattered. Goodbye David Bowie.
My favourite artist
My favourite musician.
Fuck. I need a hug.
Feel exactly the same. See below.
To all those artists who frequent this joint – and I’m sure there are a few – really PUSH yourself this year, and for the rest of your days.
Write a poem. Or a rock opera. A screenplay, or a novel, or a comic. Paint a mural. Dance across a stage. Sing until your throat is sore. Thrash out those riffs, bang those keys and beat that drum like there’s no tomorrow… because if David Bowie’s passing proves anything, it is that WE ARE OUR LEGACY. And though most can never hope to match his unparalleled genius, we can still strive to CREATE with that same purity. Same dedication. Same clarity of purpose.
Make MAGIC happen, any which way you can, and – like him – you, too, will live forever.
RIP, sir. Your memory will be with me always.
I wish I had a single creative bone in my body.
I WILL STATISTICS THE SHIT OUT OF 2016 FOR YOU DAVID!
I will… uh… PROCRASTINATE THE SHIT OUT OF 2016! YEAH!
Heh. We are why we are, eh?
Uh…I’m still struggling with bookmarks and cosplay. Do i really have to?
I think you have the pushing the creativity workload boundaries already sorted scree
For those that don’t know, Double J has been doing non-stop Bowie for hours, finishing up at 11am.
Batboy and I are listening.
Our oldie station didn’t play one song in the 45 minutes I was listening. I was peeved
There’s still time!
http://doublej.net.au/ondemand/listen/
I can’t. I’m at the shops D=
I think I mainly knew Bowie as “that guy in that one part of Zoolander”.
[/probably some kind of monster] >.>
Willing to bet his influence on you is bigger than you realise.
At first I was going to go “I’ll take that bet!”, assuming that I’d have manage to under-a-rock my way through to this point as I tend to with most things. But then I thought that I’m assuming near-zero here, so by definition basically any kind of anything at all would be “bigger than I realise”, so probably not that safe a bet after all 😛
Never played Ziggy Stardust in Guitar Hero?
I was always a Xavier Stone guy.
Ziggy Stardust is a song 😛
O >.>
Looks like it was in the first GH. That was never on a Nintendo, so I started with GHIII 😛
Ziggy Stardust? Let’s Dance? The Heart’s Filthy Lesson? Space Oddity? Heroes?
Rob Halford cited The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust as one of his biggest influencers. It’s that sort of influence that’s possibly bigger than anything else, his body of work has been imitated, responded to, remixed, and rejected by almost anyone working in the music business. Or probably the film and fashion businesses too
I know Let’s Dance was in Elite Beat Agents, and Space Oddity I more know from this than anything. Oh actually, Life On Mars was full of his songs or something wasn’t it? Though I was one of those bad people who only saw the US version.
Though I dunno if any of that really counts as “influencing” me at all, feels more like crossing paths. But then I’m not sure I could actually say who or what has actually influenced me at all. Huh. Never really thought about that before.
There was a US version?? I can’t imagine.
Yep, If I remember rightly, it had the guy who’s now in Homeland as the lead.
I liked it 😛
Never saw the UK one for comparison, but it seemed to stand on its own just fine.
In my case, I doubt it. I’ve heard some of his stuff before a few times and understand his importance for subsequent artists but I’ve never really gotten into his stuff that much. Never seen the films he was in or anything.
Things that piss me off:
Messaging a guy on gumtree about some Warhammer stuff down the road from me.
Said i’d take it, but i had family coming for lunch, so i would have to come after that.
Got his address and said I would message when i knew i’d be able to swing by.
Family didn’t leave until six, so i messaged apologising for the delay asking if it would be ok for me to swing by in 20 minutes or so.
He messaged back saying “sorry, it’s gone”.
I was FUMING.
FUMING HARD!
I was sooo looking forward to picking the stuff up and having a new case for my excess of minis… and he bloody sold it out from under me..
What was worse is that he didn’t have the common courtesy to advise me prior to my message that he had another buyer….
Sorry Loops, I just had to have them.
I KILL YUUUU!
You and which Warhammer army?
The Inquisition.
Because it’s unexpected.
Only if it’s Spanish?
Lucky. My Inquisitor comes from the Schola Progenium on Spanisha, near the Ghoul Stars.
…. Feth i’m too much of a 40k nerd for my own good…
They’d have to get pretty inquisit-y to survive the wrath of Valgûl.
#nerdoff
Just bought tickets to go see a holographic robot perform live music on stage.
I’d pay to see that.
Welp, if Leo doesn’t get the Oscar for The Revenant, I’ll be pissed.
Great film.
DiCaprio has had such an unfair run. Guy’s an absolutely top-shelf actor and yet has never won an oscar for his acting.
Did I hear something about a RocketNob sitcom/meat coming up soon?
@rocketman @sernobulus
Coulda sworn I got tagged in something about that a few weeks ago, but I can’t seem to find it :/
Yeah we got one not this weekend but the next. I will post something more detailed later.
I had a dream the other day that I was a commander leading a squad of plucky resistance fighters against an alien invasion. This may/may not have been a vision in to the near future.
You watched the trailer for Independence Day 2 before going to bed, didn’t you?
Actually I’m just too hyped for XCOM-2!!!!!
Click at risk of hype –
!@#%)*#!$*)# FASODHIASLFHASPGFH@#)$@#)()HFAOISHFOIASHG………….. XCOM 2!!!!!So we’re moving to a new open-plan office in a couple of weeks. I thought the term “move champion” was a tad melodramatic for someone organising a department/area’s move… now we apparently have “label guardians” to dispense labels for the packing crates. I fear what we’ll see next… “Make way for the packing vanguard!”
edit: lost a word – precisely why I’m not in charge. :P.
Sounds like someone just volunteered for the position…
We’ve already hired a moving company… they just don’t have a silly name yet. Maybe we need to change that… >:D
Relocation knights…
Don’t mess with the bubblewrap overlord.
Call yourself the Box Knight and craft a suit of armour out of cardboard.
Challenge people to a boxing match if they don’t follow correct WH&S procedures when moving heavy boxes.
Start the match by throwing boxes at them.
Fill the boxes with boxcutters.
To uhhhh, to help reinforce how people need to be careful with them.
Yes. That.
As sad as Bowie’s passing is, Twitter is starting to feel a bit awkward to me today. I’m starting to see a lot of people (no one here yet) respond to the news like their entire family was just killed. It’s starting to feel a bit…disingenuous, I guess?
I guess the positive spin here is that a melodramatic reaction to the news could be considered a very appropirate tribute to his style 😛
I’m still pretty upset. Like all artists, it’s the loss of… future discovery. The knowledge that not only is the man gone, but that never again will you put on a new album or digest a new work and be floored. Bowie has floored me over and over and over again, as an artist who I really got into at uni.
I’ll never again have the experience I had a couple months ago of firing up the Blackstar video for the first time. And that it was Cancer, of all fucking things, that felled a true icon, is just heartbreaking
At least he was able to release one final album before he went. Most artists don’t get that chance. Much less possibility of them doing some kind of shitty compilation of unfinished bits from the cutting room floor and release it as an album in a decade.
What do you think the chances are of someone co-opting the Miku Hatsune holographic stuff to make a virtual David Bowie that can go on tour again? Like when they experimented with bringing Tupac back from the dead with it. Aside from Michael Jackson I can’t think of any other artist which would work as well for that approach as Bowie.
I doubt they will for a while, given Bowie already hasn’t toured for a decade.
He’s easily my wife’s most favourite person in the world and she’s genuinely devastated, but handling the news as any grown adult would. For fun she put on her Bowie t-shirt today and did some Ziggy Stardust makeup. The worst part for her is that he last toured in 2004 when she was 19 and she couldn’t go. Had he ever toured again she’d have moved heaven and earth to get tickets. Now that opportunity is gone forever.
A bit of reflection during the robin williams thing led me to the conclusion that it can feel very personal when they’ve been one of those (albeit entertainment based) pillars by which you define the pattern of life and day to day existence. It’s a jarring realisation that less of those fixed things remain and another part of your life is now in the past.
Bowie isn’t one of those things for me but looking at his legacy and what a prominent role he would have played in many lives, I can understand the reaction.
Sounds like you are not the only one to feel that way
http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2016/01/before-you-share-a-celebritys-death-on-social-media-assess-your-motivations-and-fandom/
I dont get it but I’ve long since accepted that many people take things, everything often, way more personally than I do.
What a fustercluck. God I hope the cycling season is good this year or it is going to be a terrible year in sports for me
I assume you are referring to the AFL Player bans and the associated hand wringing?
Bombers supporter here so season is over before it has begun.
Cricket with the windies over here has been unwatchable
Feel bad for the Windies. Apparently their international cricket board basically banned any players who participated in the BBL from playing in the test, and since they’re earning far more from the BBL, you don’t need to be a genius to guess what all their top players did. So given they’re the B team, I think they’ve done alright, but it’s just not a fair game.
It was my understanding that the top BBL players just refused to play test cricket rather than it being the board. But that was just hearsay, haven’t really looked into it.
My only hope is that they can provide a decent 50 over match
I’m trusting my sister on this, since she’s where I get 2/3rds of my sports news, but the Windies board definitely has a dislike of some of the players in the BBL, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that had a big part in their test team’s makeup.
That’s tough, it sucks when the footy season goes to crap.
Heyo guys long time no see.
I had a weird mix of holidays
I spent a lot of time with my little sister -pro
My mum was present-con
I had a drunken romantic fling thingy -pro
I think i made a giant ass of myself-con
I saw my grandparents-pro
LITERALLY EVERY PERSON I MET MADE FUN OF MY HAIR-con
So i guess it all evened out in the end, i feel a little emotionally drained from being around people so much and i missed sleeping in my own bed for a few weeks. But i made a bunch of memories with family and friends and that was pretty great.
*repeatedly smashes the start button on the popcorn maker*
gooky literally has nothing on me.
Just the way I like it 😎
Dude! Why didn’t you tell me!
You need to tell me beforehand so I can go out and got some popcorn.
our microwave is filled with bread. no popcorn can fit.
Also i find it slightly embarrassing to talk about out loud. it seems so braggy. in text i dont care because i just imagine everyone in internet land thinks im a dick anyway.
Hey, I asked so it’s not really bragging.
ROMANTIC FLING ROCKET YOU NEVER TELL ME ANYTHING ABOUT YOUR LIFE ANYMORE
you dont text anymore. i dont wanna bug you with the boring details of my life when you have lives to save.
Just grow it out into a man bun already. Nobody will make fun of your hair then.
He has to shape the bun to look like @trjn though, otherwise there’s no point.
Or better yet…
http://www.amazon.com/Clip-Instant-Man-Bun-Brown/dp/B017TPQDVI
It’s always nice to catch up with family, immediate family even more so.
I was able to see a bunch of my Uncles and Aunts and associated cousins on boxing day which is always nice.
Yeah my two sisters and one of their partners played a bunch of board games and watched movies and bummed around and it was great. I forget when i dont see them that we have the exact same sense of humor and despite our different world views we usually have a really nice time being stupid together.
It’s true, rocket’s little sister is EXACTLY the same has him. It’s a little scary.
Pics of hair and rocketbae?
Tooled around some more in Fallout last night – probably spent more than an hour just trying to fix and tidy up the supply lines because the interface is so shockingly bad. Got there in the end.
The home stash is starting to resemble the absolute shemozzle that I managed to make for myself in Skyrim – one big dumping area that takes minutes to actually find anything in. Kinda makes me want to build a warehouse type structure but I’d just need to burn time sorting everything *in* whenever I come back so there’s no real efficient way to tackle it.
Kinda makes me wish that Minecraft style sorting machines could be built to take everything from one container and distribute it out to various storage points.
…I’m sure someone will mod that into the PC version sooner or later.
im starting to get the impression that you play games a little differently than i do 😛
Fallout 4 is probably a little more extreme than my approach for most games – it’s just a big ol’ box of toys to play with. Story and characters? Pffffffft.
I swear, the family I often hang out with while skiing is cursed (by hang out I mean that we play a lot of 500s). Two years ago the middle child (now 15 or so) broke his wrist on his first day attempting snowboarding (last run of the day, too, and not in the stupid “last place you look” way). Last year they skipped skiing because the eldest child (now 17) was recovering from an ACL reconstruction.
Was skiing with them last week, and apparently the father might have broken his leg today.
Actually, maybe I’m just cursed, pretty sure in ’09 and ’10 someone broke something at both conferences I went to.
…
So, who wants to go on a skiing trip this year?
Just… don’t ever go by yourself 😛
I’ve skied by myself, but never alone on a trip (not driving makes it difficult).
Would be a good chance to off someone I didn’t like, except I’d have to put up with them for all the time before I left them stranded in the slush at the bottom of a run.
and then after a few days together the time finally comes to go skiing but now you realise you actually loved them all along
@f4ction calls his penis Porky Meaty
BTW if you guys are looking for a movie that will really get you angry but at the time be a gentle reminder of how the status quo works; check out the big short. Pretty amazing; and at the same time relatively easy to follow for people not familiar with finance.
What day is it… I don’t think I’ve posted in… A while?
I’m suffering from a newborn induced time warp.
Hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year.
So to catch up those not on Twitter wifey and I had our 2nd child arrive on 2/1. Big healthy boy who just wants to eat, sleep and poop. Standard baby stuff.
I made it a day at home before I got pissed on.
Christmas and New Year was a pretty quiet affair with our families. Watching alot of movies and Netflix.
On that note, we’re 4 episodes through Making a Murderer and it’s very interesting… I wish it was a parody of shitty police work but so far seems like an entire stated justice system has failed a family. Wait and see if my judgement of that changes.
German women…
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
What did you do.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Oh Greenius.
*Popcorn supplies at critical levels*
What ever happened sounds like you did nazi it coming…
I’ll show my self out, all good.
Started watching Max Payne yesterday. Now I’m 5 minutes into day 2, just passed the halfway mark, and I’m considering putting it off to another day.
How is this film so bad? Get a drunk, mourning guy, make him pop pills and fall over a bunch while involved in heinous activities.
Anyone know a film with a similar premise that isn’t trash?
Film? No.
Series? Breaking Bad, House.
Welp, been playing through Fire Emblem: Awakening, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and Pokemon X.
I now officially love my 3DS XL.
I’m 21(ish) hours into Pokemon Y. My first Pokemon game – it is the bee’s knees.
Hey. Let me know if you need a trade friend, i completed my whole Kalos pokedex. Still have most of the pokemon or atleast their fully evolved forms.
Hmm. What’s something I can do to use up 300mL of cooking cream? Assuming it’s still alright. Use by date was Jan 6 😛
http://fonterrafoodservices.com.au/recipe.php?id=125
Found this. Opened the cream and it still seems to be the edible side of things.
Now I guess I gotta figure out how the coffee machine works…
…How do we not have a bottle of Kahlua in this house?
Wait a sec, I have some. Peppermint mocha though, a Christmas present from a while back. I guess that could still work.
I often whip left over cream with some icing sugar, and use it in coffee or on scones etc
I was going to suggest making some pasta with a creamy sauce.
Already got leftover pasta for dinner 😛
Add some seedy mustard a little bit of dijon and some chicken and you have yourself a meal.
Ok this is why I don’t try and do stuff in the kitchen. Recipes with obtuse units of measurement and/or lack of direction = rage. Also, things take a million times longer than they should.
Gonna just chuck it all in the bin 😛
🙁
I think I may have all my ingredients ready now.
Maybe.
Gimme a couple of minutes and I might be able to find an alternative recipe that won’t take you 4 hours to make.
Too late, it’s done 😛
What was that, supposed to take an hour and 20? And took about three. And completely fell to shit in the end.
Never attempting to use the kitchen for anything but food storage and reheating ever again 😛
Good on you for trying!
Ah, just found your twitterses. I pretty much only see twitter stuff via e-mail inbox, which I check far less frequently than TAY so it’s much slower 😛
Though regardless I was off in the kitchen juggling disasters at the time, far from any internets other than the recipe on my sister’s iPad. Which kept going to sleep.
Speaking of, probably a good idea >.>
http://www.taste.com.au/recipes/29289/peppermint+mousse
And alternative idea to use up your cream : http://www.taste.com.au/recipes/10952/chocolate+fudge+sauce
For the record, that recipe was bullshit. No way it could have fix into four cappuccino cups. Also, that was way too much chocolate just for sprinkling on top.
Picking a good recipe is really tricky unless you have a lot of experience in cooking. That’s why I generally point people towards a site like taste.com.au for recipes, because the rating system gives you a pretty good indicator of which ones work and which ones don’t.
Although there are always the hilarious reviews where people describe all the changes they made and then complain that the recipe didn’t work.
My favourite are the ones who take out the thickener and the binding agents (due to veganism or anti gluten) and then complain it didn’t hold together
This still remains the all-time winner for recipe comments
http://www.food.com/recipe/ice-cubes-420398
That is wonderful
Yeah finding a good recipe is very difficult.
But I like it when I can take a weird one and still make it edible.
I’m thinking of Photgraphing everything I bake for a year and blogging about it.
I’d read that.
It’s nearly that time of year when I have to plan a birthday cake for Batboy.
Yep. Definitely a bullshit recipe. Just checking it for you and under the picture it says it serves 6, but in the instructions they tell you to make 4.
It seemed so harmless at first glance!
Pretty much burst out laughing when I saw just how much grated chocolate I was getting, and that I still had half of it to get through. Then just pushed on because screw this, I’m halfway and if it’s retarded then it’s their fault 😛
Cooking is a two person job I think. Just like having the captain and the navigator in the car, need the same in the kitchen. I keep getting designated as the dessert person at Christmas, because the stuff keeps turning out awesome. But that’s pretty much just because Mum’s there to translate the recipes into English for me 😛
I started cooking when I was about 8 or 9 I think. I could definitely make things like porridge, salad, eggs and spaghetti by the time I’d finished primary school. It was simple – I lived in a house with 5 kids and mum a) had to cook to save money and b) taught us to cook to share the workload. So we all learnt how to chop vegies, heat things up in a pot and put things in the oven from an early age.
I cook different food to mum now, but the thing is that it all boils down to practise. Once you get your head around how flavours mix and how different cooking techniques work, then you can start to experiment and you rely less on recipes.
Yoooo.
For the 20th Pokemon anniversary they’re re-distributing every Event-only Pokemon throughout the year! http://www.pokemon20.com/en-us/mythical.html
Not announced for Australia yet but I’d be surprised if we don’t get the same.
I just saw the red yellow and blue edition 2DSs. I WANT A YELLOW ONE (not sure I can justify buying it)
I want the New 3DS with the faceplates! Blastoise! Ahhhhhh
Although, it’s not clear if we’re actually getting those in Australia, which is making me sad…
I haven’t touched my 3DS in 5 months, but now I want a Pikachu DS :S
I have a problem.
I have serious doubts that we’ll get the matching plush toys to go with each of those distributions though.
Small’ish confession time.
as someone who never paid huge attention to music, I was never much of a Bowie fan (i mean i listened to things like Space Oddity but that was one of the only songs i could actually name of Bowie’s).
But sitting here at work listening through a youtube playlist i’m absolutely gob-smacked over how many songs i recognise from being a passive listener… I sit here constantly thinking “I’ve heard this before… This sounds familiar” etc.etc.
Speaks hugely of his character and his impact on culture in general when someone as “out of the loop” music wise as myself, recognise his work and is something that’s been part of my entire life in the back ground…
Like him or not, it’s indisputable that that man was a legend.
RIP and GG mr. Bowie, you have had a bigger impact on my life then i realised!
GG Mr Bowie…..GG indeed !
My parents love Bowie so I kind of grew up listening to him. Its not my style of music but yeah he was one of those crazy talented people who seemed to be able to do anything he tried his hand at and do it well.
I’d say if you’re under 35 you probably were more likely a passive enjoyer of Bowie’s music (given his cultural pervasiveness) unless you made an effort to actively follow him. I’d fall into that category. I loved the idea of the man more than I liked his music, but that’s not to say I didn’t really love his music. I think given that (as he himself admitted frequently) he wasn’t that great a vocalist, he still produced some really amazing music and was a joy to listen to, and I will miss him.
My wife on the other hand was the active fan variety. He was a huge influence on her in terms of music taste, interests, style, and so on. To her when she was younger his existence was a comforting reminder that it was alright to be who you are, no matter what that is.
Had stupid amounts of fun last night in Elite Dangerous.
Finally decided to make my way to where @pixel_the_ferret_viking and @rize were holding up. Start making my jumps and get about halfway and start running low on fuel. 4 systems in a row with no where to fuel up and just not enough fuel to jump to a system that will.
Queue me sitting in space, alone, with nothing but my life support systems turned on while Pixel makes his way to me for a refuel. Just sitting there, looking around in my ship was fun.
Also the ingame voice comms. My god. If you don’t see me on TS anytime soon it’s because they are just amazing. It makes it sound like you’re talking to each other via a radio.
So damn fun! Including the amazing failed rescue attempt where I rucked up without limpets because I’m amazing 😛
Just being a spectator to the chat was hilarious 😀
I was chatting in the Elite Dangerous Australia TS last night. How’s the in-game chat work? Could I have been chatting to you all even though I’m far far away?
I got some of the refueling story from Pixel last night. Lesson – when you get down to 3-4 jumps max range, time to check the galaxy map and see what’s on your set route, and prepare to reroute. Also, the difference in range between Fastest and Most Efficient is VAST. 🙂
I’m down to well under 10 kilolights to go to Pratchett’s Disc. I’ll be on tonight for sure.
Not sure if it has a distance limitation, but essentially it adds fake radio static to your voice broadcast so it sounds really appropriate for the circumstance.
No idea about using it outside of winging up, but by default it’ll be enabled when you join a one.
Wondering how having someone a long long way away in a wing works… I shall do some RESEARCH.
*googles*
http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Wings
OK. There’s no problem having someone in a different system in the wing. Nav stuff only kicks in when you’re targeting whoever is doing the leading. So I should be able to sit in on comms and chat while you’re making all the moneys.
You can appreciate such highlights as “FAAAAAArrrrrking Anaconda almost got me” and “GOD DAMN SHITTING HELL WHY DO NPCS KEEP RAMMING ME?!?”
That’s pretty much what was happening in the ED Australia TS last night. 3 of 5 were fighting in a resource zone at Kunti (EDA’s home system…), so there was much swearing, and myself and the last pilot were exploring. Good stuff.
That is the most amazingly appropriate system name for an Australian group. Wonder if it was intentional…
It’s absolutely intentional. One of the group members is going through the whole “register your system/faction” business with Frontier at the moment. The poll for “what sort of economy do we want for the home base” is sitting at
2 Democracy
2 Confederacy
3 Anarcho-syndicalist Commune
26 Prison Colony
So if approved by Frontier, Elite Dangerous Australia will be a Kunti Prison Colony…
Oh yeah, last night one guy was going to join the guys in the resource zone. He couldn’t find them… turned out he’d gone to Kunta by mistake. 😀
I jumped into galaxy map (bear in mind I’m nearly 11kly away) and searched Kunta. Then Kunti. “Reckon he’s about 200ly away…” When one of the guys in the fight had a chance to disengage and check his map, turned out it was about 200ly away… heheh. “Wow you’ve been out in the black too long if you’re free-guessing distances that well…”
@popdart5 did we work out whether it was supposed to be Pathfinder week next week or are we out of schedule?
According to my recurring calendar entry the 11th “would” have been our regular date but I know Popdart The Great And Powerful said he was otherwise occupied on the day.
That is correct. The plan is to recommence on the 18th and restart the fortnightly schedule from that date. (@redartifice)
Ah right, I thought it was Numenera week next week, We might recommence that on the 27th
Blame @gingerchris86 for all this 😛
always blame a ginger!
Yeah sorry about all this hassle. I’ve got stuff on every other Monday and that schedule also changed in the new year so that threw out my timeframe for Pathfinder. Sorry that it’s also a hassle for Numenera.
Nah, it’s cool, I’ve had a busy week anyway 🙂
Saw revenant last night.
Yep Leo Deserves that oscar.
I REALLY LIKED IT
It was beautiful, like stunningly beautiful. Most beautifully shot movie. The snow was gorgeous. The first action sequence i fully believe to be the best fight scene ever filmed, it was brutal and deeply personal and just UGH SAAAH GOOD. Leo acted his heart out, one of the best performances from a actor i have seen in a while. I had a few gripes, but once i suspended my disbelief it was super compelling. The last fight was stupid but i do understand it was the climax of 3 hours build up and it couldnt of just ended with a single shot.I also saw it
Could have chopped out like 20 minutes, but really well shot. Just give the man the fucking trophy already. Not sure I need to ever see it again, but as an experience it was goodoh it definitely could of been shorter by a lot but it was so beautiful i really felt so immersed.Did you notice in the opening battle how it followed one person till they died, and then followed their attacker till they died? And Domhnall Gleeson continues his takeover of Hollywood. ‘Ex-Machina’, ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, ‘Brooklyn’ and ‘The Revenant’ all released within a year.
Yes! That was actually one of my favourite parts of the movie. I had issues with the rest of it but you can’t fault the cinematography.Emmanuel Lubezki is my favourite cinematographer (alongside Roger Deakins).
He has an instagram page which is just outstanding. https://www.instagram.com/chivexp/?hl=en
Huh. According to his Wikipedia page he did The Birdcage.
I was watching the original French-Italian film (La Cage Aux Folles, itself an adaptation of the musical adapted from the play) the other day and didn’t realise it was scored by Ennio Morricone. Just a random tidbit.
yes i did notice that. was my favourite part 🙂
very clever.
Any time Domhnall Gleeson was on screen I kept saying to myself “Who the hell is that!? I know that guy. It’s… that guy who has been in that stuff!” I looked it up afterwards and said “Ohhhhhhh, of course. That guy.”
He’s also the son of Brendan Gleeson, and that took me way too long to put together.
This is a good listen: http://nerdist.com/nerdist-podcast-domhnall-gleeson/
{Guardians of the Galaxy “Who?”.gif}
*checks Wikipedia*
“Ohhhhhhh, of course. That guy.”
In Bruges is such a great film.
Oh hell yes. I expected absolutely nothing from it and was blown away. Great film.
Slept through alarm, turned up to work hour and a half late.
So glad this is such a cruisy place 😛
I was going to post further above and ask if you have the day off? Cos your last post was at 4am??!?
How in the world do you function at work???
Slowly.
I was partway through this other huge thing I’d been putting off for ages when I got distracted by the whole kitchen thing, and couldn’t really leave it half done so just pushed on. I try not to make a habit of staying up so late 😛
But fourish hours is a pretty good amount of minimal sleep to get by on, should the need arise for it. It’s helped me get through the last few days of costume-making many times now.
I’m deep in costume making now, isn’t really all that compatible with getting lots of sleep 🙂
Did that yesterday. Awful night, was cleaning cat piss up from one of the cats getting stressed and spraying all over the dining table and things on it on Monday night. Finally cleaned everything properly about 4am. Went to bed. About 5am the large photo from our wedding fell off the wall and the glass shattered everywhere… so I cleaned all that too. Sigh.
Last night was cursed.
Man I would just take the next day off; that’s ridiculous no idea how you guys could function at work with that little sleep!
It was my second day back after Xmas leave. Couldn’t take it off. Fortunately flexible working so worked from home for a bit when I woke up. It’s bloody quiet here at the mo anyway while we’re waiting for major project resources to come into play.
You get used to not much sleep. I was running on 4-0 hours sleep for many years. Becomes just one of those things.
Oh i also left my phone at home as a “social experiment”
I was starting to see antisocial behaviour in myself and it was a little unhealthy. There is nothing wrong with texting a friend a few times a day, there is a problem with constant checking your notifications 4 times a minute. So im just gonna cold turkey myself until i feel like i can use it in a healthy way. So im not ignoring anyone, im just on a break. 🙂
Don’t lie. You’re ignoring me and I know it.
[Read 11:06 AM]
I’m pretty bad with checking my phone, not 4 times a minute bad though. I like that the shop I work in is basically a faraday cage, my phone spends most of the day either with next to no signal or searching for a signal if I don’t put it in flight mode. So I totally can’t be distracted by it 😛
Just a reminder, shenanigans in GTA Online/JC2MP on Friday night if anyone is keen to join. Five people so far have said they’ll be there, and I’m keen to try and get as many more as possible.
Boooooo now that I won’t be home until Saturday night 😛
…
Encore?
No idea if I’ll be free then 😛
I’m going to have to bail now, dad got tickets to see a Led Zeppelin tribute at the Opera House on Friday night.
How well does JC2MP go these days?
Last time I looked there were barely any servers.
There’s tonnes of servers still but only a couple of Australian ones. Regardless, it actually runs perfectly fine on 250ms+, mostly because it’s janky at 30ms anyway 😛
Anyone making The Force Awakens costumes? My daughter is desparate to be Rey, the other wants to be Jess Pava, so I am deep in costume planning hell at the moment 🙂
I’m not making Force Awakens stuff, but your daughters are awesome.
Sorely tempted to make a piss poor attempt at a First Order storm trooper armor… One day! When I have more than $5 to spend for the rest of the week 😛
Most stormtrooper stuff is kit-based.
The 501st have a very specific criteria set for their stuff, there was a great series on io9 about a guy assembling his new kit: http://io9.gizmodo.com/so-you-want-to-join-the-empire-building-stormtrooper-a-1718805318
Oh I wish I could do something worthy of the 501st but that ain’t happening anytime soon 😛
Mainly because the whole money thing…. Probably mess around with foam matting for a first attempt
It’s too thick, stormtrooper stuff is hard and thin
Heh.
Just seeing that I immediately think Master Roshi in DBZA 😛
True but I can give it a pass for a first effort 😛
Please make it TR-8R.
Are they getting them made for a particular occasion, or just because they are awesome?
Just pure awesomeness on their part, but if it turns out I will take them to Supanova in Sydney in June, as it co-incides with the eldest’s birthday, and there is little she would rather do.
Just finished modelling Rey’s staff, and printing it now. The costumes are tricky, especially the rebel pilot costume, I forsee a need to increase my sewing skills for this one.
I did alright with her ‘Agent Carter as Captain America’ costume last birthday, but this is going to be a lot more work…
I don’t believe you. Photographic evidence is required to prove this 😉
Rey’s costume looks like it would be a fun one to make.
I need to both stop and not stop going to this nearby place called Bar Luca for lunch.
Today I had the ‘Cheezus’ – Wagyu pattie, double American cheddar, deep fried triple cheese pattie, chipotle aioli & jalapeño salsa
I didn’t take a picture, so here is one I stole from their Facebook page: http://i.imgur.com/c3g3kWj.jpg
Now if you’ll excuse me I’m going to go nap for the next few hours.
That looks like it would be directly responsible for shaving a year off your expected lifespan.
Also delicious.
Can confirm.
My moustache cowers in terror.
Is this place in Sydney??
Yeah. Philip St in the CBD. Just across the road from the museum.
Their vegetarian burger is surprisingly good.
Welp, I might have to go ruin my diet today.
I was going to go to Burger Edge in the Pitt street Myer food court, but I woke up this morning asking myself “how can I be more shamelessly decadent this year?”
If you do end up going, get the Blame Canada.
Noted.
Alternatively, Mary’s has a spot on Castlereagh st. The Newtown one is pretty good, haven’t tried the CBD one yet.
Ok, so workplace bathrooms reveal all kinds of strange behaviours, but I just saw possibly the worst one yet. Guy comes out of the cubicle, goes straight to the sink and the first thing he does is cup his hands and fills his mouth with water, to rinse and spit it out. Then washes the rest of his face.
Only after this does he go to the soap dispenser, and then washes his hands.
Do you know if this guy talks shit usually? That’s why!
Never seen the guy before.
Hope never to see him again 😛
This just in: government panics when its data is used correctly by the press.
I swear, today my life is an Onion article.
Data being published without spin would put a lot of people out of work. Namely news outlets and politicians.
Unacceptable!
Edit: I mistakenly put down news agencies; I meant news outlets. I get emergency chocolate from news agencies. They can do no wrong.
The fourth estate is a vital component of democracy, don’t let the murdochness of the Australian brand tell you otherwise
Ugh. Had two customers at work today wearing some kind of perfume that as soon as I smelt it instantly gave me an awful headache 🙁
Also I don’t know why but yesterday I decided to have McDonalds for lunch, first time in I dunno a year or more, took me 10 minutes to get my order, all I was getting was a chicken bacon burger thing or whatever (which was pretty boring & bland) & they weren’t even that busy.. I felt like I should’ve just asked for my money back and gone to Subway, where I usually can be in & out in 2 minutes or less.
Hey everyone, here’s the callie bookmark, atm
http://www.Imgur.com/l7BszLX
However, I found out that that the sequins are hexagonal and I’m wondering if I should change it to make it a little more accurate
Again, no idea who that is, but the design looks rad!
My only input would be to try to somehow add more definition her right hand (the one on the left) – since it’s on the white background as well, it looks a bit weird.
It’s part of her glove. If i start adding shadows, it stops being minimalist
Or rotate the character slightly/change the pose so that you don’t get issues like that, as her right hand does look confusing. Love the pallete.
That’s the pose she’s known for. I know it’s confusing, but those that know the character should understand.
I just want to add, I appreciate the feedback and I do take it on.
It’s okay, you don’t need to know who Callie is.
Just know that Marie is better.
I feel like you should probably organise to take some time off work soon to try and rest and relax.
I mean, it must be really tiring being so wrong all the time.
Marie is next. But this doesn’t really help me
So after my earlier conversation with @virus__ regarding watercooling loops in desktop PCs, I went and found the best WC as voted by /r/watercooling readers… and hot damn do I want to build one now!
Like this for instance: http://imgur.com/a/Q4gyU
Watercooling scares me a little, so I was considering just getting the water cooled motherboard, so already made up
They make those? I’ve seen the sealed systems from Corsair and Swiftech etc if that’s what you mean?
https://www.pccasegear.com/products/26594
Yeah, those ones by corsair. It’s a water cooled processor, but it’s attached to the motherboard.
You can also get watercooled graphic cards. I saw them at pax
Man that Phanteks Enthoo Evolv is such a nice case. Saying that so is the case I have my eyes on. Ample room & 2 windows! Plus I have this want for an ITX build 😛
Also I don’t think i’m gonna bother with water cooling, it’s just way out of my budget for what I want really. Also after watching JayzTwoCents latest video, he made a good point, if you’re going for something like an i7/980Ti & want to water cool it, but you can’t make it in the budget & figure you may as well drop to an i5/970 & then water cooling becomes affordable you’re doing it wrong, especially since you won’t see near the same performance even with overclocks.
Sprout #3 is starting to get a third leaf! 😮
You’re such a proud father.
Uh oh.
I’m not much into Majora’s Mask but I know some people here are so thought I’d point this out:
http://www.theyetee.com/prints/detail.php?itemid=POSTER-MajoraDefied
Neat.
Haha, just saw the roster for next week, and i’m working a close shift on my birthday hoorah I think? haha.
I had to do that a few years back when I was working for CBA, I was on the “24/7” helpdesk team, so had to work a rotating four day on/four day off roster, and it just so happened I got saddled wih the December 23rd/24th/25th/26th roster, while I was on the night shift rotation.
Only my birthday is christmas day, so yeah, that was fun! /s
To be fair my boss leaves tomorrow and me & the other casual are working the Saturdays, cause the other guy who is part time can’t work too many days in a row lol. But money is money I don’t mind 😛
This is true, because I was a contractor at the time, I was on triple time for public holidays, so Christmas Day and Boxing Day were particularly lucrative that pay period…
Triple pay, daamn. Best I see is double, but hey, my base rate ain’t bad so I could have it worse 😛
Ugh, so glad it isn’t hot today…
Had two gym sessions, and now my body is really sore.
Allegedly it’s only 27°C here at the moment at 20 past 9 \o/ haha.
There’s a servo across the road from our building that says it’s 28c outside… I say that sign is a filthy, dirty liar!
Haha, yeah it’s now apparently 28 here, yeah nope it’s hotter than that!
I think it’s happened.. I think I’ve reached pinnacle geekdom…
I’ve entered a Conquest tournament/league at my local FLGS…
I’m one of them now…. What’s happening to me?!?!
Not one, you seem to have entered several from what I saw on your FB feed 😛
Good luck regardless. When I join, I’ll be bringing a mechanical undying force that’ll darken the sky of all worlds in the sector… I’ll need to get good at this game first lol
FLGS?
Friendly Local Game Store, basically a board game kind of shop that can also host tournaments. Includes things like Warhammer 40k Tabletop as well
Hey, I’ve only played a few times – so I’m likely screwed. You should join in on the screwing haha
Once I obtain the Necrons, I’ll take you up on that! 🙂
He’s trying to hide his shame!
QUICK!
EVERYONE POINT AND LAUGH!
Ha-Ha!
Yeah I’ll get in on that.
*points and laughs*
=P
Oh those Polandballs crack me up..

Great Britain riding the USA with a barrel of oil on a stick is just too funny.
Oh hey, rad:
http://dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/systems-reference-document-srd
WotC have published the D&D 5th Edition core rules under OGL so people can build stuff off it a la Pathfinder with 3E. That could be very cool – there’s some elements of 5E that I really like.
Side note: I wish FFG would do this with their Star Wars games. Having to have someone buy copies of the sourcebooks to have descriptions of character creation, classes, abilities and so on is really limiting.
Fantasy Flight: I’M SORRY I CAN’T HEAR YOU, THE MONEY IS MAKING TOO MUCH- THE MONEY! ALL OF THE MONEY! IT’S MAKING TOO MUCH NOISE
That’s true of the company as a whole but not sure how their Star Wars RPGs have done for them. They’re obviously doing okay (they keep making more) but I wonder if they couldn’t be doing a lot better by making the core materials available for free, a la Pathfinder’s PRD.
They perhaps aren’t allowed to, due to licensing.
Other idea: D&D and Numenera and PF make their money from Splatbooks. All of the splat from Star Wars is on wookieepedia. Release the system core rules and you’re left with… not much that you can print.
I remember hearing that FFG has the license to sell printed books but not PDFs because the PDFs fall under digital content which is the general thing for all video games. FFG can sell physical books only which sucks.
I recall hearing this too
Apparently that’s true. Fucking EA ruins everything. Even things they don’t have anything to do with. Goddamn.
On a side note, they’ve essentially printed the core rules three times for Star Wars to justify selling the books for $60 USD. EotE, AoR, and F&D are fundamentally the same books with the main differences being in the character creation options.
So they’re using the Games Workshop business model?
Yeah… GW is pretty bad now with shelling out specialised army books and the new formation rules. “You must have exactly this many models to get the special rules. Oh those models are $50 each? Well, I guess you won’t get to use the special rule then.” *swims in money vault*
Yeah – formations started off being a really cool idea with small amounts of models (Party of psykers, Stormwing, etc) and now they are like “this formation is a whole fucking army lol”
Like seriously?
Yeah, same core, but the core rules are like 20 pages of a 200 page book. Each has a different mechanic for keeping the characters’ personal stories going too (EotE has Obligation, AoR has Duty etc) but the bulk of it is the character classes and races and all the abilities you can pick up inside that.
I don’t know why they try and keep the three games separate either. Same system, so you should be able to roll it all together but they’ve made that really hard.
I’m wondering if they’ll do a 4th one and set it in the new trilogy.
When I referred to the core rules, I was kinda talking about more than just the basic dice mechanics. Skills are exactly the same and most of the talents are identical. The combat rules don’t change and the equipment lists are also pretty much the same. I’d be willing to bet that at least 50% of each of the core Star Wars books is exactly the same and copy pasted from one version to the next. They did the exact same thing with the 40K books and even got in trouble with it by forgetting to change certain terms to fit the newer version. FFG is just slack with writing books but their art is amazing.
FFG are shit at writing manuals and instructions too so I guess it’s just their thing.
Hell, EotE is a hard sourcebook to read compared to, say, Pathfinder’s core rulebook. There’s something about it which just feels obtuse.
Nice, although it does seem to be missing some bits in the class section. For example I was reading through the Monk class and it mentions you can choose from three monastic tradition but then only list’s details on one. Still a quick google search can find the info on the other two anyway.
The other two are probably Forgotten Realms specific.
EDIT: The three are the Way of the Open Hand, Way of the Shadow or Way of the Four Elements. Basically spec you toward a specific element of the class. Open Hand improves your unarmed strikes (and gives you a death punch later on), shadow enhances sneakiness and elements is all about elemental magic abilities like something out of Naruto.
Man I’d love to make a One-Punch Dwarven monk 😛
Yeh I did a quick search for it. Also if I was going to play D&D again I would so go for the elemental monk. You’re pretty much the Avatar from the last Airbender / Legend of Korra world.
Also, I believe @f4ction was interested in doing some D&D a while ago, so I’ll just tag him.
Hello! Yes, I play D&D sometimes . I want to make my own Warhammer Fantasy RPG though now, since the official one has gone stupid. Or a sci-fi one, that will do. A simple sci-fi RPG.
What sort of simple? RP or action focused?
The Warhammer 40K RPG has also gone a bit stupid as well unfortunately.
If you want simple grim fantasy, Shadow of the Demon Lord is really simple to play but has a tonne of character options. Not too pricey either.
Simple sci-fi is available in Stars Without Number which has the added bonus of being free.
Yeah, looked at both of those! I just like the D&D system and the WFB/W40K lores too much 😡 Also, boo to people playing Space Marines. When I ran with the old unofficial rules the guys saw a Space Marine corpse once but never ran into any actual marines. These are supposed to be guys of myth and awesomeness, not random dudes you run into every day!
1st Ed Dark Heresy is where it’s at
Oh yeah, I forgot someone had converted D&D to 40K way back. I can’t imagine it suiting very well because I’ve always seen D&D being far more heroic than Grimdark™.
As Loops said, the older versions of WF/40K RPG are still great and functional, if a bit hard to track down. 2nd edition WFRP is all available on a Russian site (khorne.ru) which is pretty great.
I’ve got 2nd & 1st edition WFRPG & Dark Heresy so I’m all good there, if I have to. I just want something that is a DIRECT port from D&D so people can shift easier 😉
I wish I could help but all of my google-fu is turning up dead links to what may have once been D&D-Warhammer conversions. Sorry Faction.
@popdart5 all good man! I don’t think I have time for stuff anyway :'(
Dammit, just cracked my headset
Better than cracking your head though!
This is very true
Or becoming a crack head
Well this is relevant 😛
Depends how expensive the headset was
Truuuuuuue.
Started playing Dishonored: Malibu Stacy edition last night. Remembered why I loved Dishonored so much the first time, it’s so good.
I have installed Dishonored: GOTY on my PC as of a couple of nights ago. I think it is on the top of the Mountain Of Shame.
My pile keeps growing, but this was cheap in the PSN sale so I went for it.
The top of my pile of shame is like of the those plateau things from the end of UP
Less than 8000ly to go, Elitists! I’m going to arrow through the Lagoon Nebula in a couple of thousand light years, about 3000ly after that will be Thor’s Eye and then the last mad dash to Pratchett’s Disc. It’s looking like it’ll be Saturday that I reach that outpost, and then I decide which system deserves my data… 🙂
All these updates kinda make me want to play Elite, since I have a feeling it would scratch a fair amount of that mindless but steady progression itch I cover with Pokémon / Minecraft / Fallout.
It’s definitely getting more interesting now there’s a few of us in there. The breadth of things to do is much wider with Horizons too. Ranks seem to be well balanced, and now there’s a percentage progression it’s a little easier to understand the impact of actions on rank.
Competent, Merchant, Ranger, Helpless 🙂
Also sorry we never sorted out catching up over the hols – Allison and I were both so knackered after last year – health issues, a load of personal strife for me, and then wedding madness – that we pretty much hid at home and mainlined Haven, True Detective and a bunch of movies…
All good 🙂 What little holidays I had quickly evaporated in our acquisition of a second dog and then I was back at work. Still kinda wondering where the holidays went and if I can have them back at some point.
(Sorry for the delayed response, wanted to type something up properly with a keyboard instead of this touch screen nonsense, but then time just gets away around here lately)
PUPPY!!! What flavour dogs do you have?
Maybe we should organise a Melbourne meat. I shall start a new thread and tag peeps.
Siegmeyer – 9 month old “staffy x” who now appears to be a German shorthaired pointer with a brindle coat
Rosie – 4 year old “boxer x” – boxer face, white coat so likely staffy / bull terrier origins too.
Exhibit A: https://twitter.com/CannonFodderJnr/status/687748666841366528?s=09
Hehehe! 🙂 Cool. Dogs are fun.
Hopefully i’ll be back in Melbourne in time to be able to escort you! at least some of us should be available.
Pixel’s Escort Service? 😉
I love that Mario Maker has been out for several months and it is only just now adding a Daisy costume. Long after other fan-favourite costumes such as “Wii Balance Board” and “Majong Tile”.
I also love that her costume continues the long-standing Daisy tradition of having the loudest, most annoying sound effects in the game.
That is wonderful. And horrifying, but also wonderful.
HI IM DAISY
Disappointed she doesn’t say this every time she jumps to be honest
I’M HIGH DAISY
wow
Was there ever any official reason as to why Mario gave up on Daisy and started going for Peach? I mean, was there a breakdown in their relationship over time or is Mario just shallow and hated her voice?
I’m not sure. The lore of the Mario series is way too deep for me to understand.
There was that time with Daisy and Luigi and the walking in and the tears.
Maybe Daisy’s just better at keeping her shit together over in her kingdom.
Or Mario actually managed to properly kill Tatanga, unlike Bowser who just seems to keep coming back again and again.
I like how the announcement also included a pigeon character skin, firmly putting Daisy in the ‘scraping the bottom of the barrel’ category.
I’ve now caught all the Pokémon in Pokémon Picross, finished all the regular missions and both murals. Only thing left is to do every puzzle again in alt-world.
Damn I burned through all those puzzles pretty fast.
Afraid to ask, but can you get shinies in Picross?
……… What have you done!?
Doesn’t appear to be the case – it’s more of a solve / unlock of a useable skill than capturing a unique Pokémon (with any random chance elements including shiny) of that species.
How can you be sure. Better start resetting.
I think I’d smash it just as quick if I was able to unlock everything quickly. For better or worse I’ve earned most of my picrites (I bought on the the one-time bunches to speed up getting some more levels) so I’m still plugging away at like level 12 or something 😛
Dear Brisbane Taybies Plus honoured guests coming to @sernobulus and My housewarming party on the 30th.
I have seen lots of people saying yes but i dont have actual numbers, or anything and we are gonna feed you lot and buy a reasonable amount of drinks i will probably need at least a rough estimate of people coming. So please confirm if you can come. Side note, because of the sheer amount of outer towners coming and me and nob being young dudes we wont have a super amount of room if you want to sleep over so if you do want to stay (which you are welcome to do) please bring a blanket and a pillow or something soft to sleep on.
PPS: If you break my couch we wont be friends anymore. It is my favourite thing i own. I will beat the ever loving shit out of you if you so much as look at it a funny way.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME
So…. we dry hump the couch “gently”?
I can’t come since I am working that night.. Now I see the downside to these Saturday night shifts.
I’m so sad I can’t go. Also, need pictures of your couch, now.
Oh, and I saw you the other day when I was out shopping, but I didn’t say hello because you were with someone, and walking waaaay too fast for my short legs to catch up to you, anyway.
sad face
Look, yelling “Rocket” loudly in a mall is fine.
Better than Gooky, certainly.
Even more better than just “GOOK!”
He’s not joking
*runs fingers down black eye*
You know there’s a domestic violence hotline now, right Nobs? Don’t take nothin’ from that Rockets!
Just listened to a song perfect for this so without further adeu:
CHULOOPA’S “IN MY ASS” GAME!
You know the rules, the name of the last song you listened to followed by “in my ass”
Feel so numb in my ass
feel good inc IN MY ASS
Let’s get this party started in my ass.
Dig, Lazarus, Dig! in my ass.
Dig yourself! Back in that hole
Do You Know Where You’re Coming From In My Ass?
Long digger in my ass!
The Wire in my ass
Some top quality work this week folks
Smooth Criminal in my ass
Where have all the good times gone in my ass
I feel that shouldn’t be a statement, more a question and answer.
Wow, been a while since I’ve seen this. Hi Loops!
(To Live Is To Hide….)
YAY!! @Strange!!!
HELLOOOO!!!
Hope you are well 🙂
Yup, I am good!
How about you?
Absolutely wonderful, as per the usual 😀
Sigh.
…
‘Love me like you do, in my ass.’
Look, it was on the radio. Or do we only count the stuff on our iphones? Because then…dammit.
‘I love it in my ass.‘
This… this is just… meant to be
Wow, how…appropriate.
“I want you back in my ass.”
Although, looking at my playlist, it works for almost every song…
“Hooked on a feeling in my ass.”
“Blame it on the Boogie in my ass.”
“All fired up in my ass.”
Pretty much!
I Hate Hartley in my ass
Holy crap, that storm just then. Woke up to get off the train and was like hey, the sun’s gone. And the sky’s black. Huge lighting in the sky while walking home, head-on into the most absurd winds. Spattering with gigantic raindrops, but it wasn’t overly bad and died off as I got near home. Got in just in time, though. Went absolutely nuts afterwards, I could hardly see the back fence with how much rain was coming down.
Now it looks like the whole “back lights turning on in the rain despite being switched off” thing is still a thing. And one of them is smoking a little. Hope my uncle gets here to fix it soon >_>
Nah, just get out there and fix it yourself. Doing your own electrical work is a great money-saver!
@rocketman
Especially if you do it in the rain!
Evening all!
So a couple of days ago, my wife and I were watching Brooklyn Nine Nine S03E07, and ended up with different opinions regarding the first minute!
So im going to leave it to the masses to decide on who wins this argument between my wife and myself!
This is going to be tough to answer unless you watch the show, without any background on the characters.
I’m going to put it all under spoiler Tags because, reasons 🙂
This is the clip in question:The options:
1. Hitchcock drinks his Goldfish by accident mistaking it for lemonade because he is an idiot;
2. Hitchcock drinks his Goldfish intentionally, knowing he was drinking a Goldfish.
Argument for Option 1: Hitchcock is an idiot. This act is perfectly suited to his character. The whole point of Jake making the bet is because they are idiots and wanted to see who would screw up first. The fact that he is chewing is likely because he just realised there was something in his mouth, hence the puzzled expression whilst chewing. Also Jake specifically says “Hitchcock Just introduced me to his new goldfish who lives in an identical jar”. This outlines that the fish is a pet.
Argument for Option 2: He is looking at the Goldfish before drinking it and he is chewing afterwards. Hitchcock and Sculley are known to do weird things, and eat weird things. Him eating his goldfish doesn’t seem like a far stretch for his character.
He’s a stone cold killer. That expression looks more content or appreciative than puzzled.Keep it simple – Hitchcock and Sully are idiots; even when they’re not trying to be idiots they’re idiots. I’m going with the idiot theory!Hey it’s @strange !
HI YOU
Yeah, not enough @strange round these parts no more 😛
Hello, Greenman!
Holy shit. Alan Rickman gone now too, yet again cancer at 69. What the hell.
We’re having a really shit run at the moment. Lemmy, Bowie and now Alan Rickman.
EDIT:
Bowie & Rickman both at 69, both from cancer… does that mean that David Bowie turned out to be Alan Rickman in an acting performance so great that no one ever realized it?
Lemmy was cancer too, and had only turned 70 days earlier. Practically 69, and all of them British!
I feel like all these cool people passing on is like the whales in Hitchhikers’. Something bad’s coming. 😛
Let’s hope we’re not about to be bowled to make way for an intergalactic bypass.
THAT INSTANTLY BECOMES OBSOLETE!
Must have been made by NBNco.
Happy Friday All!
Back in the main office today after being onsite since Sunday. Had a great time, got to meet many people face to face who I have been providing IT support too for many years. Plus I got a tour of the underground and got to see a Longwall (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longwall_mining) doing it’s thing, that was very impressive. Then I am back there next week to finish off the project I am working on which will be one last hurrah before I finish up my time with the company.
Looking forward to getting stuck into some gaming this weekend, I took my laptop with me while I was away but didn’t get much of an opportunity to play. Will also help me get my mind off losing two legends this week.
Hope everyone has a great and fun weekend! 🙂
It’s @dc’s birthday! Hey, everyone, let’s all pay attention to DC!

That’s my cue!
*summons mic, takes deep breath*
Has anyone noticed how old @dc is looking? I swear I saw a few grey hairs…
Happy birthday @dc!!!!
😀
Happy Birthday @dc !!!
<3
I didn’t get you anything.
I’ve never really been that into Wolfmother, they’ve had a few alright songs. But most of the time i’ve found Andrew Stockdales voice a bit grating to listen to. But I really dig their new song Gypsy Caravan it’s got a cool 70’s rock vibe.
Oh are they still a thing? I swear they were absolutely everywhere a few years ago, and then vanished without a trace.
Something like that. Last time I heard anything relating to Wolfmother was when Stockdale did a song with Slash for his solo album in 2010 lol.
You know who else has a cool 70s rock vibe? Stonefield. Those girls really rock.
Just got back into Warframe. Game is Awesome but needs more Aussie players so sign up http://is.gd/oB5GSB
I probably will rejoin this once my new computer is fully built and ready 🙂
Started playing Warframe on Monday… Why didn’t I get into this sooner? It’s so good. The pubbies aren’t too bad, either – a nice rank 7 took three rank 2-3s to a 25-35 survival mission on Pluto. So. Many. Mods. Also death. A lot of death.
Yo, os42, @chuloopa, @psyco59: PC or console?
My brother and I play on PC and have a pretty much maxed-out-research clan to take advantage of for blueprints if you want.
(Reminder to @tech_knight, too.)
Also, we both have stupidly overpowered set-ups to do those level 80-100 daily sorties that give the mad monies/rewards.
PS4. 🙁 Have a PC account from way back when it first came out, but started this week on PS4 as a way to kill time until my Destiny peeps were online. Got accidentally hooked. “Oops.” 😛
Sorry, Elite this week. 🙂
No worries, I understand. Get back to populated space, and don’t rush the final approach. 🙂
I installed it on PS4 and tried it… but the control system and the lack of the last five years of mods/frames/equipment means that I cannot follow where you go, unfortunately.
Aiming is pretty frustrating at times, but movement and level traversal is so smooth… Might give PC a try, as I’ve only sunk a few nights into the PS4 version – not really interested in getting carried through anything, but the research could be useful later on (and the trade system sounds much more accessible, from what I’ve read).
That said, I’m apparently still using the worst primary in the game. As going to the dual heat swords after the skana was a revelation, I’ll try my new Boltor when it finishes crafting tonight – it might be a bit easier to handle.
I didn’t look too carefully at the differences between markets. Seemed to be less activity on PS4 in general (which could simply be a result of it being a pain in the ass to type), and things were more expensive to buy… but hopefully this would be offset by meaning that prime parts sell for more. It’d mean that buying plat is a worse proposition on console than PC, but free players get a better value for their grinding? Not sure. Would have to analyze.
Either way, yes. Boltor is pretty damn great.
I’m hoping it’ll let me start from the beginning, I was unfortunately very spoilt with other players doing the runs for me (Unintentionally) so I will have no idea where I left off.
Most of Warframe is best when soloed, or in pairs in areas which are probably too high for you.
When you run with a full team of four, most maps turn into essentially some kind of five-minute-genocide, a competitive race between ethnic cleansers, struggling to get a shot in ahead of their fellow space ninjas.
There’s definitely nothing wrong with taking a brand new frame (or under-levelled frame) and starting back out on Mercury (planet of the lowbies) to re-learn the ropes. Great way to get back into it. Also there are a few selectable tutorial missions you can re-run which will go through the advanced movement updates and things like that.
Never any reason to start from scratch, though. You can polarize (prestige) your high-level frames to start them from level 1 again, but with an extra polarity slot (so you can pack them with more power at max), so it’s a whole game of starting from scratch, all the time.
I found that the best answer to the whole ‘nothing to do’ problem when running with other high levels is the new daily sorties they have. You end up going through a chain of missions against dramatically over-levelled opponents (starting at 60-70, then incrementing up til the final mission is in the level 100 range; for comparison the max warframe/equipment level is 30).
It changes the mission playstyle from ‘run around opening boxes while the eager beavers race ahead to murder everything within two galaxies over’, to actually fighting for your life. Much more interesting and exciting.
That was exactly what happened last time. I was meaning also in terms of all progression, I want to start from scratch. I guess I’ll just have to make a new account.
Nooooo why would you make a new account?! Keep your stuff!
Cuz I really missed out on a lot of the starting experience with that team I went with, everything was pretty much given to me, and I hate that. Nothing felt like I earned any of that stuff. I’d much rather do it all again.
Edit: Besides, I didn’t actually get that far, I think I only got to level 10 max on one thing 😛
Having mods handed to you is probably a good thing overall. NOT having some of them really feels arbitrary and many are difficult to acquire normally, owing to the RNG being… fitful, at best.
Still, you do you, man. 🙂
I have no idea what Warframe is – but those screens look intriguing.. like it could kill my laptop with one fell kick in the nuts!
It looks pretty, but I’m confident that it actually runs decently on low specs.
Last driving lesson before my test next week and I am so fucking nervous. I know I shouldn’t be, I’m a pretty careful driver, but I don’t want to have to fork out if I fail the test. I know I’m just putting extra pressure on myself, but I can’t help it.
You’ll be right! Try not to think about it and you’ll stress/worry less?
If I try not to think about it, it’ll infiltrate my mind. It’s part of my OCD and it causes intrusive thoughts.
Oh /o\ Well still all the best with your test! 😀
I should really get my L’s at some point, especially since i’m like 25 soon, heh.
It’s just a driving lesson today. Test is same time next week
I managed to pass the driving test while hit with a full blown cold, as long as you remember what you’ve been practicing, use your mirrors whenever you can and don’t mount anything with your car, you’ll be fine.
I’m worrying about the reverse parallel park and 3 point turn.
And everything else.
If those are what you’re worried about get your instructor to focus on them in the last lesson. As long as you don’t crash while doing it on the test and you show you roughly know the technique, the tester doesn’t care if it’s not perfect and will only dock some points, and you certainly don’t need a perfect score to pass.
Do you know the “trick” to parallel parking? I only had like two lessons from an instructor, but he told me about it and it’s never failed me.
You pull up beside the card you’re going to park behind, and slowly reverse until the rear of the passenger side doorframe is in line with the back of the other car, then steer all the way left and keep reversing til your car is 45º to the kerb. Once it is, you can start turning inwards, and you should be set.
Gets me a two-point parallel park like 90% of the time.
Yeah, I have that technique, I just can’t always tell the 45 degree angle. I’m terrible /o\
I know this technique but I always balls it up so I bought a car that has a computer in it that parallel parks for me so I don’t need to worry. 😛
Problem was, the trick doesn’t work in my car because it’s a wagon with a shitty turning circle. My fault 🙁
Maybe you can borrow some better-trained horses just for the test.
Not your fault. I’m having issues with it in the small car, usually because I don’t go back enough
Given how many fucking atrocious drivers there are that have passed their test, you’ll be fine. If your instructor says you’re ready, you are.
She says I’m ready and to just have confidence in myself. That’s the hard part
The best advice I can give is to make sure the examiner knows you’re looking around. Its what I came to call ‘awareness theatre’, exaggerating head movements to make it obvious that you’re scanning rather than just moving your eyes.
Oh, also don’t run over any pensioners, you actually lose points for that now!
Definitely this (the first part, though the second is also good advice too :P). My driving instructor gave me the same advice cos I tend to glance at my mirrors quickly and frequently, rather than turn and look at them (which I don’t understand – why should I sacrifice peripheral vision of the front-right of the vehicle to look at the left mirror that way?), which is less noticeable to the tester.
Same principle as showing your working in a math exam – you’re demonstrating you know what you’re doing to the examiner, not to yourself – doing it in your head and just writing down the answer demonstrates nothing, even if the end result is the same.
But, I am a pensioner!
I do demonstrate that I look at my mirrors. I can’t wear my sunnies because of it
That’s all the more reason to not hit yourself with a car! If nothing else it’d be some kind of time paradox and possibly destroy the universe or somehow involve killing your grandfather when he was a baby…
I nearly made a joke about how my grandfather was blown up in world war one, but then I remembered that’s my MUM’s grandfather, not mine. Oops.
True story: I passed my driving test by a single point.
Not sure if I should be impressed or worried 😛
Then again, i’d be certain you’re a better driver than 99% of the people I see on the roads on a daily basis.
Well, it was back in 2004, I’ve had a lot of experience since then.
Oh fair enough then 😛
I insta-failed my first driving test on the way back to the department office. Tractor on the road, double-white lines on a country road, in a section which had high visibility and probably shouldn’t actually have been double white lines. Tractor kept edging further and further to the left to let me past… heaps of room. I looked to the instructor, but he wouldn’t say a word. Not until I overtook, barely touching the line on the road.
“Technically illegal, and thus a fail.”
Remember – the elderly are bonus points!
Good luck – i know you’ll nail it!
So I should get out and help them cross the road?
No, you’re… you’re meant to do them greivous bodily harm if not vehicular manslaughter.
I’ts, uh… it’s… not a very good joke if you think about it too hard. Or at all. So don’t!
It’s the obvious joke, and I decided to take it in a different direction.
And now I am hunched and broken in spirit at the realization of my moral vacuum.
I’m sorry. D=
No, it was good work! Job well done. 🙂
You can drive, you’ve got this.
Be confident and decisive, don’t be afraid to argue.
You’re a much better driver than I was when I passed my test.
My driving instructor said I can talk out aloud and that it’s not an issue, which is good, because it’ll help me to relax.
Having done mine not that long ago a few small things.
In small streets there is no issue doing 40 all the time. They will take you through a 40 zone so keep an eye out for that. When you are in a 40 or 50 zone speeding by over a kmph I think is an auto fail.
When you are on the ‘main’ raods do the speed limit, they want to know that you don’t freak out at higher speed
You are welcome to ask the instructor to repeat anything.
If you miss an instruction to change lanes or make a turn you can say that you intended to but you didn’t feel it was safe to do so. Much better to do that the cut off another driver and fail
Make sure you know the difference between your front and rear demister
Confidence is key, often they will know if you are a good driver within the first 5 minutes
Found out today that Ubisoft have just released a family game compilation consisting of Monopoly, Risk, Boggle and Trivial pursuit \o/
…. only on PS$ and XBONE /o\
… i need to get on the current gen bandwagon.
DAMN YOU, MORTGAGE!
I’ve been told that my report writing style is very much appreciated by the senior directors. And here I was thinking that it was trash because of all the excessive jargon and general impenetrability of the language.
Guess I’ll need to update my resume with “can write good for money”.
Jargon is a wonderful thing, if used correctly. As long as you’re using jargon with people who are familiar with it, or you clearly define it from the out, then you can be crazily efficient with your language.
I love jargon. I’m halfway through writing a thing about board game jargon. I bet jargon doesn’t sound like a real word in your head anymore. Jargon.
Huh. So Warframe is by the same guys that did Dark Sector – for two years I’ve assumed the aesthetic must have been just slightly different enough to avoid a copyright lawsuit… or DS’s developers went under and couldn’t defend it. Now I want to try one of WF’s glaives…
They’ve actually made a (several thousand year gap) link between Dark Sector protagonist Hayden Tenno, and the operators of the warframes collectively known as ‘Tenno’. It’s totally the same in-game universe. 🙂
Holy crap, how did I not notice the name!!! I thought it sounded familiar, but never made the connection. That’s awesome.
Good news, everyone (that owns a PS4 and likes 40k)!
http://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/space-hulk-ascension-coming-to-ps4/
My (physical) copy of Space Hulk didn’t make the transition to the USA well. Packer decided it’d be a good idea to put it in a box on its side so all the miniatures fell down to the bottom end and had a party there and stuff got broken. Should have varnished them or something for protection.
Probably pretty easy to repair them but still a pain.
You NEED this:
http://us.battlefoam.com/popular-corridor-space-game-2009-foam-kit/
One of the best things i ever invested in. Fits straight inside the box and holds all minis and components.
Yes. Yes I do.
I also need to invest about $100 with them to get some containers and foam inserts for Super Dungeon Explore as it has all the minis.
For the super dungeon explore stuff i would actually recommend getting a second hand Games Workshop carry case if you’ve got quite a few to store.
In many cases you can find them for $30 on ebay or gumtree, but you do need some patience.
Another less costly option is to pick up a KR Multicase from their ebay store. Great pieces of kit if you want something new at a budget price with just as much protection.
But yeah, when it comes to the space hulk inserts, the battlefoam is the way to go 🙂
TAY, my safe haven! Why the fuck did I post in that stupid article? Ugh.
Oooh sounds like drama; give us a link?
http://www.kotaku.com.au/2016/01/no-guys-allowed-at-new-geek-cafe-in-japan
Bah always the case whenever there’s an article focussed around any group in a population that isn’t the majority.
That burnside guy is really pissing me off. My opinion is, I don’t think it’s fair and that if it were the other way around, some people would be upset. Apparently, this makes me a terrible person for having an opinion different to theirs. I tried to put a lighthearted spin on it, but I feel like I’m just being attacked.
I just love when supporting a minority based idea is equated to creating an exclusive situation.
The irony is in the GaymerX article everyone was in up in arms claiming it excluded others when it reality it didn’t but in this Japanese Cafe article people are up in arms claiming it should be allowed to exclude people when really it should be advertised to a particular group but still be inclusive of the whole.
Tis the internet scree; the purest form of the human condition. Don’t get worked up =P
Edit: Also as Jo pointed out I guess we need to take into account this is Japan; country based culture can seem very alien to outsiders.
Yeah, I know that, I was thinking what would happen if it was released in this country
You’re not being attacked, you’re being challenged and you don’t like it. Being attacked is what you’re doing to me right here.
You want to talk about unfair? Unfair is the fact that women, compared to men, are exponentially more likely to be sexually harassed in social situations.
Putting aside that you didn’t say ‘some people’ would be upset but said ‘all women’, you’re trying to equivate things that simply aren’t equivalent (in terms of talking about gender-based options in our society) and commenting on cultural mores and values that have an entirely different contextual background (the fact this is a Japanese cafe that is actually being discussed).
While it’s great you can come in here and be cuddled by like-minded conservatives (DAMN UPPITY MINORITIES GETTIN IN MY WHITE MANS GAMING) don’t make vaguely misogynistic comments and be surprised when you get called on it.
You’re perfectly entitled not to be a fan of feminism but if you translate that into open negative comments don’t get upset if people don’t feel like accepting them – especially on a site that already has more than enough misogyny to go around.
The article did not in anyway make this is a gender conflict issue. What did were the commenters – such as yourself – who chose to do so unprovoked.
Your argument is as I see it that women are weak and easily victimized and because its so damn hard to get men to be responsible for their behavior we should create a safe haven for women which excludes men.
And if you’re stupid enough to come into TAY and call anyone here a conservative you’re clearly a troll. GTFO.
Also please don’t be deluded enough to think any of your arguments in anyway represent feminism. Feminism is the equal treatment of women; meaning if and when they decide to open a club exclusive to women they should do so for the very same reason men did. To flaunt their power and accomplishments.
Not for their safety. Moron.
I’m not usually aggressive when engaging in debate but scree has already made it clear in the relevant thread she doesn’t want to engage with you further. Ever heard of sea-lioning? Don’t bother replying cos I personally couldn’t care about what you have to say.
Edit: Creating a situation which touts exclusion as a method of equality is insanity at its core.
Hey @burnside @scree and @pupp3tmast3r this is an interesting debate to be having for sure, but lets not get nasty with it. TAY is a great little community — don’t ruin that for the sake of an argument carried over from another article.
Feel free to continue discussions, but remember that personal attacks on other users are against our comment policy!
You clearly don’t understand what Sea Lioning is. Replying to someone bitching you out personally in a public forum isn’t Sea Lioning and pretending that it is devalues the term’s actual use against MRAs and similar creeps.
We’re having this ‘conversation’ because Scree decided to jump in on a gender comment-free article about a Japanese cafe and say
“if it were the other way around, all the women would be crying out about sexism.”
This is a ridiculous generalisation, is basically #1 in the Men’s Rights Activist ‘approved comment list’ and has no relevance to the context of this Japanese cafe.
No insults were thrown until you joined the party.
Now if you’ve got a cogent, intelligent defense for the above statement, I’d love to hear it.
If you just want to rage out protectively and make things up about what you imagine I might be thinking, don’t bother and let your silence speak for itself.
its a 1 for 1 tie so far gents! Anyone that watches Brooklyn Nine Nine please cast your vote!
http://www.kotaku.com.au/2016/01/talk-amongst-yourselves-361/comment-page-4/#comment-3591643
It seems this argument will never be resolved!
Option 1, but done really badly.
Done so poorly that option 2 must be the answer.
Train trip home last night, only around the 1k mark for resets, shiny Articuno shows up.
https://twitter.com/CannonFodderJnr/status/687535973022879744?s=09
Awesome, lucky to be that quick.
Then I set up for the Zapdos hunt, and an hour later:
https://twitter.com/CannonFodderJnr/status/687584816892526593?s=09
Well, that was unexpected. That’s it for my hunt for shiny legendaries from 4th gen. (Can’t get Kyogre or Rayquaza because I only have Soul Silver and not Heart Gold)
Guess it’s time I take a break for a bit. Not sure whether to come back at some point and dust off the old GBA sapphire cart or just wait until Z.
Congrats, but man those shiny colours are disappointing. Is there actually any difference, or is it just a tone shift?
Articuno is sorta white + light blue where it was light blue + dark blue, more of a tonal shift.
Zapdos is a darker shade of yellow and the feet and beak are red instead of brown. My crappy pictures don’t really show up the differences that well, but yeah, they’re a bit shit. Also why I left them until last.
Man, I wonder how much they would charge for Mario Cart Archery
Trying to see how much it would cost but can get prices for the basic version only. It’s actually fairly reasonable, $50 per bow with a 10 bow minimum. Can switch in and out people so you don’t actually need to pay per person which is nice.
Tentatively considering seeing if I should do something like that as a birthday thing. Then I remember my birthday is around PAX so the screws it up. Maybe I should do it on the Thursday before PAX. Then family can’t come.
Unfortunately due to me having to leave soon, I can’t wait for #DadJokePage6. I require the use of Page 5 to spread good will and cheer to everyone.
I bought shoes from a drug dealer once,
I dont know what he laced them with.. but i was tripping all day.
This is amazing.
How many apples grow on a tree?
All of them.Have you heard about the new film about the tractor?
The trailer just came out.
Psychic buying clothes:
Employee: How about this one?
Psychic: That shirt is too small.
Employee: You didn’t even try it on!
Psychic: I’m a medium.
The wife and I went to a bank robbers-themed fancy dress party last night.
Well I did. She stayed in the car, keeping the engine running.
My wife used to always smoke after sex.
So we started using lubricant.
My wife just started a tropical fruit diet. It’s enough to make a mango crazy.
My boss yelled at me, “This is the 5th time you’ve been late this week. Do you know what this means?”
I answered, “Yes, it’s Friday”.
Love it!
Met this girl at camouflage club. We’ve not seen each other in months.
Glass coffins….. Good idea or bad idea???
Remains to be seen.
Five surgeons are discussing who makes the Best patients to operate on.
The first surgeon, says, “I like to see accountants on my operating table because when you open them up, everything inside is numbered.”
The second, responds, “Yeah, but you should try electricians! Everything inside them is color coded.”
The third surgeon, says, “No, I really think librarians are the best! Everything inside them is in alphabetical order.”
The fourth surgeon, chimes in: “You know, I like construction workers…Those guys always understand when you have a
few parts left over.’
But the fifth surgeon, shut them all up when he said: ‘You’re all wrong. Politicians are the easiest to operate on.
There’s no guts, no heart, no balls, no brains, and no spine… Plus, the head and the arse are interchangeable!
You really outdid yourself this week. Bravo.
Wow. The internet in my new place just got connected. Close to advertised speed ADSL2+ kicks the crap out of technical ADSL2+ running at low ADSL speeds. If only I had something that needed to be downloaded quickly. =P
Entire steam library GO
hahaha i was gonna say, update ALL the steam games! And windows.
Attempting to make a start on room cleaning. Beginning with moving the backs of stuff out of the pathways.
…I think this bag is full of Christmas presents. From 2014. Uh, this other one too. Except it must be 2013.
They are also very full of dust.
Voting in the Hottest 100 done! Here’s what I’m going for.
Cat Empire, The Wolves
Chemical Brothers, The Go {Ft. Q-Tip}
Childish Gambino, So Into You {triple j Like A Version}
Custard, We Are The Parents (Our Parents Warned Us About)
Bennies, The Party Machine
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, DOWNTOWN {Ft. Eric Nally/Melle Mel/Kool Moe Dee/Grandmaster Caz}
Florence And The Machine, Ship To Wreck
Lana Del Rey, High By The Beach
Courtney Barnett, Depreston
Muse, Dead Inside
Nice choices! I thought it would be easy picking this year since I didn’t pay attention to the low key stuff but I still can’t make a shortlist -_-
My two favourite albums were Muse’s Drones and Chemical Bros’ Born In The Echoes. Was very hard not to have a list of those songs only 🙂
I kinda hope Courtney Barnett wins this year.
Considering how globalised the list is becoming and how big Courtney Barnett is over in the US, she has a fair chance I’d say.
Neat. I just found a thing like Loot Crate, but for your dog called Bark Box. Sadly they don’t ship outside North America, I was all excited to sign Chilli up =(
How about this one? http://www.ollysbox.com.au/
Ooh awesome, thanks! 😀
Nearly caught up on the anime from last season so I should have some impressions of this season soon, for those that care.
So…did anyone else notice an article just disappear off Kotaku yesterday? There was an article about the Steam Link – “cheap, convenient but flawed”. Opened it to read later but when I came back and reloaded it, it was gone, “Page not found”. Nothing on a Google search for it, even. Seems…weird.
Aircraft Pornography for your weekend perusal:

I’m waiting for the bus right now and am bored so here is a question: if you had creative control over any Star Wars multimedia piece (movie, comic, game what have you) what would you make?
Out of all of my ideas I would have to settle on a new pod racer game as lame as it sounds, simply because the N64 one is really showing its age
TIE Fighter II. Start in the aftermath of the first game, in the lead-up to Endor, fly through Endor with the 181st and continue until the Empire’s final conflict at Jakku. Then there’s the expansion pack, Fist of the First Order, which continues it. Keep TIE Fighter’s gameplay, but big graphics overhaul and some streamlining.
A new Rogue Squadron.
With VR support 😛
I want to write one of the movies! I don’t really care how much control I have over it, but I’d love to be involved in both the idea sessions and the scripting.
“Alright I want a ham and egg, JJ will have a… hey, JJ! BLT? Yeah BLT for JJ.
Are you writing this down, Shane? Write this down.”
What about writing one of the new EU novels / comics? You’d do a way better job of it than the dipshit that did Aftermath.
Hells yeah. I’d be all over an opportunity like that.
Otay,
if you’re new to Dragon’s Dogma, grind out the first few hours (because they suck) before the game blows open. It’s a magnificent piece of work that, in my opinion, is the only other game suitable to sit next to Dark Souls in whatever the hell that genre is.
In other news, thinking about NG+’ing Witcher 3 on Xbox One to do a Death March playthrough… but I’m also getting a 970GTX put in this month so maybe I do a brand new start on PC through HDMI to TV… decisions, decisions.
Last thought.. I need to play more Squad.
Just because now one else has said already, thank you for the dragons dogma advice. I’m definitely playing it as soon as I’m back in Australia
Why can’t Stevie Wonder see his friends?
Because he’s married.
I sent him a cheese grater.
He sent me a letter back saying how much he missed reading.
That joke caught me on the blindside
I’m BAAAAAAAACK. Had an epic run last night (while enjoying the rage Bowie tribute) and got to Shapley 1, the Fine Ring Nebula.
From there I had a rethink, realised that Pratchett’s disc was doable, but the system of Quince would be a better option – similarly isolated, and I’d sold data there before so it’s a green friendly system for me. In addition, Miller Port station is only 110ls from the jump point. So I risked it. No problems apart from trying to manoeuvre the Asp inside the station with shit thrusters… Landed safely. Repaired, bought shields and weapons, cruised down to Kunti and sold a little data to get friendly there. Then bed.
Today I’ll sell the rest of the data. Will take Quite Some Time… 🙂
I can’t even behind to guess just how much dust I’m dredging up at the moment.
Some parts must be a layer at least three years thick. No, four? Maybe four.
You read it here first folks. Gooky officially sucks!
Gah, overslept. :/
Sunday wasted. Might as well go back to bed.
So how’s everyone this Sunday..?
Had a lovely day out taking advantage of cheap public transport. Moo Burgers for lunch, ferry to the city, Cow & Moon gelato for afternoon tea and then home.
Sounds pretty good. I also like the bovine food theme to the day 😛
Yes, it did work out to be a theme 🙂 Unintentional though!
That’s what they all say 😛 haha
