Video: The history of building brick toys goes way back and as Jangbricks’ video shows, LEGO was actually quite late to the party.
Some of these proto-LEGO bricks were hollow on the inside, and the truly early ones were made of compressed wood and even rubber. Still, not too much different from LEGO bricks, just a bit simpler, since injection moulding machines didn’t really exist in 1940.
Jangbricks has a nice collection (no clay bricks from antiquity though) of all these old toys, and not just compares them to modern-day LEGO, but tries to do some custom builds.
