New TMNT Board Game Looks Great

New TMNT Board Game Looks Great

There’s a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles board game up on Kickstarter. It’s already been funded, so don’t sweat, it’s getting made. Which is cool, because it sounds like the perfect TMNT game.

Firstly, because of that art! Both original artist Kevin Eastman and current comics property owners IDW are helping out on the game, so from the box art to the figure design, everything looks exactly as it should.

But more importantly, because of the designer involved (Kevin Wilson) and the style of game it’s using. Over a decade ago, Wilson created a board game version of Doom, which blended 40K’s style of tabletop combat with D&D’s dungeon-crawling and stats.

That game led to the excellent Descent, and then to the even better Star Wars: Imperial Assault, which has been destroying my spare time for the past few months.

What this means is that you can expect the TMNT board game to play out exactly like you’d hope: the turtles and a few friends making their way through levels beating the living shit out of hordes of Foot Soldiers, before occasionally hitting a “boss” character like Shredder.

If you’re down with the premise but have little board game experience, imagine that there was a TMNT version of Fire Emblem or XCOM.

Like I said, it’s already been backed, but you can still get a copy here.
