I also want Ronda Rousey to play Samus from Metroid.
Gamespot just posted an interview with deposed women’s champion Ronda Rousey, who has recently emerged from media exile since her loss to Holly Holm in Melbourne late last year. In the past month she’s appeared on Ellen, Saturday Night Live and Sports Illustrated. Now she’s helping promote EA Sports UFC 2.
Ronda loves video games — that’s a fairly well documented fact. In particular she’s a huge Pokemon and World of Warcraft fan. In the Gamespot interview she talks video games, streaming and movies, but as a huge Metroid fan, this might be my favourite quote.
On which video game character she’d like to play in a movie:
I’ve always wanted to be Samus. That would be badass. I love how people found out later that it was a hot chick on the inside. And then most of the day you’re in a suit, so you can just hang out and eat donuts and be the star of Metroid. I hope they make a movie out of that.
Ronda’s been hit and miss onscreen so far, but I remain a big fan. I also think her playing Samus would be great casting if a movie like that ever got made. I doubt it though. It’s hard enough to convince Nintendo to make a Metroid video game, let alone a movie. And when you consider how burned Nintendo were with the Super Mario Bros movie the chances of a Metroid movie being greenlit are slim-to-none.
Gutted.

That’d be great.
I’d love to play Samus too – in Metroid Prime 4.
Nah, Metroid 5. And/or Dread.

I’d rather Gwendoline Christie play Samus if there ever was to be a film adaptation of Metroid, but I’d rather there not be be an adaptation in the first place.

God, most of the comments on that Gamespot article are gross.
They smell gross
edit: duplicate post for some reason
I like ronda rousey and all, but to be fair she’s not really that great an actor. Maybe in a few years with a bit more practice under her belt(s)
I dunno, why do we have to gender swap such classic gaming character?
As the lead actor in a film I would rather not…
Personally I’d prefer an actual actress.
Couldn’t agree more. Whilst Ronda is one of my favourite sporting personalities, I don’t think her “acting” skills would suit a lead role, let alone a solo one. Why would anybody pick Ronda when you could go with the more popular choices like Chloë Grace Moretz, Hayden Panettiere, Emma Stone or Jennifer Lawrence?
I’d personally go for Charlieze Theirone or Emma Stone, love both and could see either in a strong female action role. God knows Charlieze knocked it out of the park as Furiosa. Emma’s incredibly gifted and very much more than capable of pulling off the role too. Fact is, that while Samus is in the suit, there’s a more than likely chance the action would be mostly CG anyhow. So definitely an actress over an MMA fighter. God knows Rhondas delivery in the Fast and the Furious 7 was god awful, making Vin’s seem like Shakespeare…
Charlieze Theirone is a good one. I could also see Kristen Stewart pulling it off somehow.
Kristens an extremely capable actress when not starring in Twi-shite. She’s gone on record as saying they weren’t exactly taxing movies to make. But when you check her out in American Ultra and some other movies, she’s quite appealing. Not to mention there’s other films her *real* personality comes through with.
Swap out Kristen Stewart with Kristen Bell maybe? I could imagine her playing a quirky/cute Samus role & the movie doing very well at the Box Office… Plus she’s short, so I’d love to see her drop a foot or two from a big mech-suit!
Why does acting skill matter when she doesn’t even need to say anything at all 😛
no thank you. shes pretty cool but not how I envision Samus.
How about no..
I’d like Ronda to grow some respect for her opponents, personally.
Yep, pretty good fighter who is up herself plus she can’t act for shit…
It’s up to the Metroid fans.
I’ve not played a Metroid. I say no as I find this annoying and a total cliche, and am not surprised in the least in seeing such a proposal.
Has she even played/completed one?
Should it ever happen I just hope they actually get an actress who looks strong as much as they may act it. I personally hate seeing these actresses playing these (Physically) strong character when their arms are rake thin, I rant about it for male and I’ll do it females. If you’re playing a warrior you should look the part.
I’d prefer they not make any more movies based on video games.
