I know Kojima leaving Konami is tough, Snake, but it’s not your fault.

Kiefer Sutherland, AKA the actor who replaced David Hayter in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, released a music video for an upcoming country-tinged album. The single, Not Enough Whiskey, is pretty… on the nose.

In the video, Sutherland drinks whiskey. It’s not very good, but who cares?

The comments below the video slayed me, though:

Sutherland actually has a long — and slightly tortured — history with music. His attempt to manage the rock band Rocco DeLuca & the Burden was the subject of a documentary called I Trust You To Kill Me, and it was a disaster.

You might have seen this infamous clip of Sutherland before…

…and it’s from that documentary.

I even have a history with Sutherland! Sort of, anyway. Years and years ago, when someone decided to greenlight a video game based on the TV show 24, I was sent to a press junket to interview the stars of the show (and game.) One of those was Sutherland, and he agreed to pose for a photo.

(I don’t have a high quality version because the frame is currently in a box.)

He was a nice dude. I’d turned 21-years-old a few days prior, and asked him if he had any advice for me. This was a wildly irresponsible question to ask at a press junket for a video game, but you only live once, right? He laughed, paused for a long time and then told me something like this:

When I was growing up, my brother and I used to be obsessed with the old Batman TV show. On the show, Batman and Robin would always drink bubble milk. All we wanted was bubble milk. We’d ask my mum to buy it, and she’d refuse. ‘You’re going to hate it,’ she’d say. But we wouldn’t stop asking her for bubble milk, and eventually she bought us some. It was disgusting. What I’m trying to say is that you should learn what you like. [long pause] But drink whiskey. [laughs]

As it turns out, whiskey ended up being one of my favourites!
