Japanese Cat Cafes Are More Fashionable Than Ever

We're entering the next phase of cat cafes. It's fancy. Until recently, the vast majority of cat cafes have been rather simple, no-frills operations. That's not to say they have looked, I dunno, ugly, but many of them have been run out of bland-looking spaces. The aesthetic focus has been the cats and cleanliness, not the cafe's design.

There have been exceptions, like Tokyo's Temari no Ouchi, which looks like a cat cafe as envisioned by Studio Ghibli.

As FashionSnap, Kawacura and Japan Trends report, this month, a new "designer" cat cafe opened in Harajuku, one of Tokyo's most fashionable areas. Called MoCHA, the cafe also has stylish branches in Shibuya and Ikebukuro.
