The Division is out tomorrow. Time for me to decide if I should get it or not…
Anyone here getting it on PC?
I came here to ask the same question…? (so thanks for asking it for me)
I am torn between PC and PS4.
#firstworldproblems
I’ll be on PC (Rogue | Lath = Steam Name) and PS4 (Terrakah). It’s goooona be a goody.
I’m going with “no”.
I’m going to wait and see how the player base/content is at least a month down the line.
I’m probably going to cave. Keen for a shooter (I’d prefer an FPS but slim pickings there lately…) so I’ll see how it goes.
I’ll pick up BLOPS 3 MP pack before I get
Destiny* The Division if I want a shooter.*Not a joke, I actually typed that by mistake.
I’ve considered that but I’m pretty sure I’ll learn to hate the perks system the same way I did every CoD after MW2. Granted, hardcore CoD was amazing fun…
That’s my general approach to most games. I’ve played fuck all AAA releases since taking that approach.
I will probably get it on PC eventually. Not sure if I will grab it day one though, I got all excited for Destiny and grabbed it day one and that ended in disappointment. I might wait a bit before grabbing it.
I might get it on PC if it turns out not to be Destiny 2.0 and actually has some content.
Mornin’ all. How was everyones weekend?
Mine was okay if you disregard my D Drive dying and me losing a bunch of data & the idiot who worked Saturday night not doing anything in regards to filling fridges leaving me to do it all Sunday for my shift..
weekend was good thanks, lots of social engagements and celebrations, not much time for gaming but I did make it trough to the final mission on XCom2 last night so I am hanging to get home and finish it off (just in time for the division)
commiserations on the drive mate, hopefully it wasn’t anything to drastic that was lost.
I assume you gave it a proper send off?
Lost some photoshop files which I swear I had backed up but I don’t for some weird reason, & a little bit of music which I hadn’t backed up yet (though it was my most recent music library which I had tidied up & got rid of what I didn’t want so i’m a bit peeved there :P). But i’m hoping i’ll be able to find a way to access the drive to pull it all off. I think I should invest in an external dock for HDD’s just to make my life easier 😛
Yeah my last build included a HDD dock for that. Mostly for when my family/friends ring and say “OMG my PC has crapped itself, all my stuff that I never back up even though you told me to is on there. But I’m sure you can magically fix it for me”
Haha, man friends & family are good at that too, esp when they believe you’ll do it for free…
I didn’t realise there was another option other than free when it came to friends and family ;P !
Well, if you ask for money they tend to stop breaking shit it seems 😛
The struggle is real with iinet atm.
My internet went down for a week nearly a month ago, and after the usual iinet tech followed by telstra tech it came back up, at massively reduced, unusable speed.
Second callout to repair the speed meant another visit from the very same iinet tech to pointlessly check my end, followed by another telstra tech, who checked the download speed and judged it to be fine (ignoring the 250 kilobit upload).
Follow up call to iinet was an hour of them blaming the number of devices on my WiFi, my Ethernet cable, and eventually just telling me that I was far from the exchange and that speed was normal. Hmm, unless my house has shifted without my knowledge, that’s not exactly an option…
I haven’t been able to play splatoon in almost a month now, I’m starting to get the shakes. So today is line fault lodging number three!
It wouldn’t be quite so annoying if this exact set of circumstances didn’t happen six months ago.
Man that really sucks. I’ve always had really good experiences with Iinet. I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been screwed around.
I’ve been with iinet for a decade, they’ve always had good customer service, but the telstra maintained lines here are atrocious.
I can see the exchange from my house, I’m stupidly close, but the copper is just terrible. I have no idea how the nbn can think it’s viable. My last house was in Highgate Hill, on the fibre network, and it was rock solid.
Maybe ask @tech_knight about telstra? =P
If the suburb is monopolised, it’s not a surprise that the connectivity quality is horrid. My brother is going through the exact same thing in Cranbourne.
Sounds like my area 😛 I guess i’m also just bitter my speed has halved in the last 18-24 months :/ Went from around 1200kb/s down to 500-600kb/s. I also think more people in my street discovered the internet which sucks.
One of the first habits of monopolising an area, why spend money to improve it and properly maintain it if your connectivity is the only option with no competition?
Basically. I mean at least I have a stable connection, and it doesn’t disconnect often, like some areas around here do..
The copper isn’t viable – that was the coalition’s great swindle when they kneecapped the NBN.
“somethingsomethingtheboatshavestopped!”
ARE YOU ME? HOLY MAMA MIA ARE YOU? I’m sorry for caps but this is verbatim my problem and I thought its just because we have real shit phone lines up in the Perth hills.

My weekend was pretty normal except when Techie came over to hang out on Saturday.
Oh yeah, I built a flat pack set of drawers and now my dog sleep next to me. It makes life easier when I want to pat him =D
They came out really nicely.
Nice work. 🙂
Thank you! I struggled with Garnet a bit. Their proportions are different to what I’m used to.
I’m sure Sid’s happier too. Not having to leave bed to get pats. =P
Oh yeah. He was on his back this morning getting his chest rubbed!
Haha. I’ve been spoiling Chilli this week allowing her to sleep inside cause it’s been rainy. So she ends up watching TV of a night in my room and passing out on my bed and not allowing me to get comfortable lol.
Sid doesn’t like being on our beds as he jumps off when we move our feet. He loves his bed so he’s pretty happy
Haha. I can’t keep Chilli off my bed when she’s inside with me. Probably also cause I have a fan blowing across my bed in the warmer months lol.
Sid is a bit of a weirdo as he doesn’t like fans, or lifts
Went to a friend’s birthday Saturday night. He turns into a massive asshat when he’s the centre of attention. I think in a deliberate attempt to drive his friends away because his new wife insisted that his party must end at midnight sharp and starts getting fussy when people aren’t making clear moves out the door by 11:15pm, he announced loudly that one of the girls in the group has breast implants and, if you ask nicely, will let you touch them – even the initial proclamation was incredibly rude, as while most people probably knew, it’s still a matter of discretion. He then started suggesting that people go into the bathroom with her to inspect them, as if it being his party made him the lord of all he surveyed and his guests must acquiesce to all demands. No one considered this offer and he was advised, several times, that he was being a fuckhead. This did not stop him from re-raising the issue every few minutes until everyone left.
If it was his plan to have fewer people wanting to spend time around him, mission accomplished.
Other than that I felt miserable and played a very small amount of Far Cry 4. I feel like I am on a very long streak of illness, bouncing from stomach flu (which lasted about 2 weeks) to a head cold, and now I have a sore throat and a chesty cough. I’m well tired of it. I don’t know how I found the energy to attend Saturday night’s party but I seem to have paid for it in Sunday, only having the capacity to lay about on the couch periodically bothering to put on a new youtube video.
Some party. Can’t say it wouldn’t be tempting to ask though, out of curiosity 😛
Well to go into finer detail this friend had already (privately) told my wife about her augmentation and suggested indirectly that she’d be happy to share information, answer questions, etc. There was some indication (told to me second hand by my wife) that the opportunity to feel them might arise at some point and she’d definitely be interested to know what it was like – so on a purely objective level the suggestion by the birthday boy wasn’t entirely out of order – but 1) he had no way of knowing that, and 2) raising it loudly and openly in front of a group of 12 people is hardly appropriate.
Further to that, birthday boy’s comments were directed specifically at my wife because generally our small party subgroup was talking about boobs (having exhausted all available conversation about dicks, apparently) and he just happened to pipe up directly in response to something my wife had said – so that made it extra awkward.
He sounds like a lovely chap.
Because I’m bored and am putting off writing an difficult email, here’s a bullet point background on this guy:
– back in their teens my wife was really good friends with this guy and his brother
– there were periods between the ages of 16 – 19 that my wife and birthday boy could’ve had a relationship, but my wife was I guess a bit different to his other friends and he more or less pushed her away because he couldn’t stand the judgment of his other friends if they found out they were together
– even after cruelly dumping on her, he still expected her to be there for him and even tried to get physical with her (though nothing ever actually happened between them)
– when we got together wife my was still hurt by some mean shit he said to her and it took awhile for her to forgive him and for me to get past the extremely negative impressions I had of him based on her second hand disclosure
– birthday boy is extremely shallow and, like most guys, digs boobs. But he took it to a pretty gross level – he would often ask female friends of his (incl. my wife, while she was in a relationship with me) for a “birthday flash”, or otherwise see no issue with trying to grope them
– when he finally got a girlfriend and was engaged, he professed to change, to the point that when his brother hired a topless waitress for his buck’s night, he went on the aggressive saying none of his friends “knew him” and that this was extremely disrespectful. Each and every one of his friends called this bullshit straight up, and that he was only putting on a façade because of his church friends – again, all about appearances rather than what he wants.
– now that he’s married, all pretence of having respect for women has gone out the window again. He openly talks about his sex life with his wife in front of others – she’s ok with it to a point (because talking about sex and having a laugh is something adults just do when they’re comfortable around each other) but it goes too far and makes her uncomfortable.
– while finding excuses to discuss sex topics with friends he’ll openly grope his wife who used to be fairly passive but has started becoming resistant and telling him off for it (I think with the support of my wife and some of her other friends who’ve explained to her she doesn’t have to put up with it)
And that brings us to the weekend, his 33rd birthday, where apparently it’s ok for him to accost a female at his party, loudly announce they have implants, and put her on offer.
Now, this list is spread across some 15 years so it’s not like it all happened in one day in case you’re wondering how such an asshole still even has friends – he’s not a complete arse all the time. But he is starting to alienate people, getting invited to less group events, etc. I’d feel sorry for him because I’d give it another couple of months before he seriously starts to haemorrhage the friends he has left, but after years of telling him to pull his head in I’ve really lost any sympathy I might have once had.
Sounds like this guy stopped maturing at about 17 and is being left behind. Maybe time to take him off the Christmas card list, so to speak?
He’s started to be quietly excluded from group events. When he sees the pictures on Facebook he sends whiny texts to my wife, who enjoys the irony that she’s now a core part of the group that he once believed would ostracise him for dating her.
We do not feel bad about this.
God damn. He sounds like an embarrassment.. I just don’t understand how someone can think their behaviour like that is acceptable & normal.
Multiple choice quiz time!
When out to dinner with friends late last year, when the time came to ask for the cheque he allegedly caught the attention of the waitstaff by:
a) catching the eye of someone from across the room and making the universal “cheque please” sign with his hand
b) clicking his fingers at a passing waitstaff
c) identifying a nearby waiter in the middle of serving another table and yelling “OI, PONYTAIL”
When his female friend advised him quietly that this kind of behaviour was not generally acceptable in public, did he:
a) quietly apologise?
b) grab her breasts and squeeze them making “honk honk” noises?
c) burp loudly directly into her face?
It’s gotta C & B, right?
C & C actually. I thought I might have gone too outlandish with my decoy answer especially given the rest of the story, but no, he did not honk her at the table. As far as I know.
So much class..
What a puddle of a person.
Asnwers are definitely C &CWhoa shit. According to this here e-mail, we have received a subpoena! “You were invited to the presiding judge by the judge because of offense against the law.”
It’s ok though. I’ll just click this here Unsubscribe link at the end, that’ll sort everything out.
Morning all! I engaged in jolly co operation in Donkey Kong and Yoshi’s Wooly World with the fiancé this weekend, it was lots of fun, though Tropical Freeze is not really designed for two people…
But Yoshi is? We got a Wii-U for Christmas, and play a little Mario Kart now and then, but not much else… Wouldn’t mind a cutesy co-op game for us to play.
Yoshi is hilarious as a 2 player co op game. It makes the game a lot easier as you always have a spare yarn ball (your co op partner). It’s a bit of an easier game overall too so its a bit less stressful. I would highly recommend it, definitely one of last year’s most underrated games.
Ah, managed to get further into Twilight Princess, and had work at the gallery on Sunday.
And hopefully our net will be back up to normal speed by tonight!
Fucking iiNet.
Are you in WA? My internet has turned sheit since yesterday and the fact that FF XIII is 45 GB for some ludicrous reason isn’t helping
Nope, I’m in Victoria.
Beard update:
it’s gone.
Anyway, because of awesome people, just over $700 was raised for the leukaemia foundation.
so thanks for that if you were one those who donated.
$700 is awesome.
Also fuck cancer.
So I tried out Marvel Heroes on Friday night… Wait, it’s Monday?! That thing is dangerous… Might have to stay away from that one. *makes plans to play Diablo 3 tonight*
😛 In all seriousness, not sure if I’m sold on it. Got Squirrel Girl to level 60, and keen to find out what happens in Chapter 10, but… if I have to choose between two Diablo-style games, I’m going to go for the one where I don’t have to worry about getting one-shot 200 ping.Aww yiss. Steel Panther are touring Aus in June. Haven’t seen those guys live since Soundwave 2012 with @freezespreston ah that was a good day.
That’s 2 concerts in June now, both in the same week as well.
and there’s a VIP package which includes a meet & greet, that’s kinda really tempting.
Morning?
Morning all.
Getting quite hype about monster hunter generations and spent a good chunk of the weekend playing MH4U (while staying near a computer because on call to work).
Quick gush – I forgot just how *fun* the added vertical elements are in 4. So much fun was had. Mid air takedowns, ridiculous flying in on a massive drop to perfectly smash monsters. So good.
Best bit? When generations comes out, every weapon set will have a bouncey bug stick style move set. Every. Weapon.
Cannot wait.
Oh, and work?
Work is shit. Has gone to shit. The lack of planning and actual management from too many layers of managers is coming in to roost this week, so they’ll all be bullshitting and scrambling to cover their own asses just to make it even harder for those of us that actually do work. Also why I’m a little less post-y lately, only feels like I’m doing three jobs and getting thrown under a bus at the same time. Fun fun. Apologies for the vent.Monster Hunter sure is fun though and a nice escape from thinking about work.
Upset that my bouncey bug-stick niche will be gone! 😛
Every weapon? My gunlance will be the terror of the skies.
From what I’ve seen, every weapon.
The change comes with multiple hunting styles available – for instance, switch axe (the only weapon for me) gets 4 styles: Classic / Current setup from 3/4, Reduced combos but more passive abilities, jumpy goodness, and ridiculous i-frames up the ass super dodging style.
Considering the leap attack with the hammer can one-hit stun things, I’m keen to see how an aerial attack works…
I’m starting to get angry in Smite. I can see how people can really get into dota games and why they turn into assholes. Might need to call it quits soon.
Finished playing Broforce. That game is awesome in how stupid it is.
Started playing Galak-Z, a game I really wish I could still pay for despite getting it for free. I’m really enjoying it but I don’t find it that difficult. I just started season 3 so maybe that’s when it really ramps up the difficulty, but usually rogue like games start at 10.
Now I have to clean up for inspection tomorrow.
As a MOBA veteran (~10 years -playing Dota 1&2), I can definitely vouch that the rage is real.
That being said, I only tend to get frustrated at my teammates, and very rarely at the enemy. My advice is to find a good group of friends to play with (I’m assuming Smite lets you befriend people in game like Dota does), so that you always have a few people online to group up with. Having people you know on your team almost evaporates my anger issues when I play (although, getting that nub-shit 2 stack to fill out the team when playing with 2 friends and watching the super-duo conga line into the entire opposing team over and over… yeah, still a couple of latent rage issues).
So, weekend stuff. Managed to reach the end of TMNT on Friday, so could put that one to bed. Glad season 7 pulled things back on track after how kind of awful 6 was. Attempted to record some accordion playing that night, to send off to the band girl. It went okish. I’m out of practise.
Saturday night I hooked up the Wii U for the first time since Xenoblade came out I think, and ended up deciding to have a go at Devil’s Third. It’s… I dunno. It probably wouldn’t be so bad if it didn’t control so horrendously shit. The main problem I have is that the analogues are only kind of semi-analogue. It’s like the sticks run on a continuous scale from 0-0.5, but then round up to 1 as soon as you cross that threshold. Aiming is practically impossible without overshooting the mark unless you move things around at a snail’s pace. So for the most part I just stick to melee attacks. But then the way the lock-ons work with certain attacks, along with how block, dodge and camera re-centre are all bound to the one button makes most battles a clusterfuck of rage-inducing misdirected actions.
Will persist, but finding it hard to agree with @akumajobelmont. And I say this as a guy who championed the virtues of the likes of ZombiU and both Red Steel games in the face of all criticism 😛
To each their own man! 🙂
At least you’ve given it a try, and not blindly shat on Devil’s Third! Can’t say I’ve had any issues with the aiming, I just brought the sensitivity down. and that worked for me. Although, I must admit to being slightly annoyed at the clicking the left thumb-stick in for run, and the block being L1… although the only time this really gets to me is during boss-fights. Are you using the Gamepad or the Pro Controller? I find FPS games a real chore on the Gamepad – all of them, haha. The Pro Controller works much better for me with FPS games. It’s the reason I couldn’t play Deus Ex through again on the Wii U – no Pro Controller support…
If you don’t end up wanting to keep Devil’s Third, at least it should be worth something in the future if you wanna sell it, considering the limited print run 🙂
Oh yeah, didn’t think of trying the Pro. Been using Gamepad, especially since I can off-screen play. Where are the sensitivity options? I might have a play with those, I don’t remember spotting them in any of the options menus. And yeah that L button use… ugh. But especially the click run, this is the exact use of click sticks that I have despised since forever, and a big part of why I was so disappointed to hear that they were finally adding them with the Wii U.
Apart from that though, there hasn’t been overly much reason to complain. It’s a big dumb action movie as a game. Nothing that’ll set the world on fire, but hardly any reason to set the game disc on fire either.
I still can’t believe they gave Devil’s Third a full proper retail release but threw Fatal Frame/Project Zero 5, an actual good game, under the bus.
That crazy old Uncle Nintendo! *jingle*
(is that the Maiden of Blackwater one, or another?)
Yeah, Maiden of Black Water is Project Zero 5. It’s not the best in the series (Project Zero 2 is by far the peak) but it’s a solid game even if the reviews were mixed.
It’s maiden of blackwater. There’s only 2 spinoffs. The 3DS one and the remake
I forgot to ask. Has anyone else here played the legend of legacy demo? The combat is so in depth that I think it may take me ages to utilise it properly and that’s without the added elementals.
Is this on 3ds?
Yes it is
I’ll check it out once I get a new 3DS, my battery died 🙁
Aw, that sucks. There’s no time limit on demos, so it’ll still be there
Yeah, I will grab it. The bigger suck is the suckiness of not being able to play Bravely Second.
I got maybe an hour or two in.
Ugh, that’s crap D= Legend of legacy is short, the actual game, but apparently the story is good. Oh and there’s 7 characters
Yeah, is on my radar.
I’m playing Digimon at the moment though. I’m well addicted.
Physically unable or mentally unable?
I am not sure?
@scree I think this was in response to the Ideolo query? I think it was Stella Glow that had his artwork. It’s a very striking vector-based style. Lots of areas of solid, bright color and hard blacks. I’m a massive fan but the game itself didn’t look too great.
EDIT: This artist: http://www.pixiv.net/member.php?id=61513
He does a lot of Touhou stuff.
To be honest, I’m still really confused. I didn’t say I was unable to anything, I don’t think. I do like the art style of Legacy of Legend though.
@scree: I think maybe the page redirected you to the wrong comment? The unable thing was a reply to @jimu, since he said he wasn’t able to play Bravely Second. I’m asking if he wasn’t able to because of physical constraints (time etc) or mental (i.e. getting bored with the game)
Oh, well, I can answer that. It’s physically as his 3DS is broken
Because my 3DS won’t hold any power. Game is great.
(This is a confusing thread, @Scree ) :p
Which trio have you been using? Haven’t tested other configurations yet but I expect they will alter combat tactics.
I’ve had Frogman sitting up the front with a shield while the archer and amnesiac bust heads from behind the lineAs much as I want to keep playing, the battle music is too nerve grating.I’ve got
Meurs, the elemental, bianca the amnesiac and Garnet. Garnet shields while Meurs attacks and Bianca supports. Or else Bianca and Meurs attack while Garnet shields. Was that the one that had character art by Ideolo or was that something else? I think it was Atlus were doing two similar-ish 3DS JRPGs around the same time.
No it was more a watercolour art style
Oh yeah, finally booted up the 98 machine for the first time since mid-October. Had to dig through nearly a thousand new e-mails. Oops 😛
Then picked up the Humble Bundle before it disappeared. Should probably move things off that e-mail account.
98 machine, as in Windows 98..?
The one and only!
Well, I guess there’s the distinction between FE and SE. But who would actually want to use FE 😛
Hahaha, what sort of hardware is running in this beast? 😛
Hmm. Off the top of my head, I think it was a 1.7GHz Celeron, 1GB RAM, GeForce… 6600 I think? And 80GB hard drive 😛
The GPU fan makes a godawful noise when starting up, especially in cold weather. It usually quietens down though once you get to the point of the computer being actually usable. Although occasionally the screen would just stay blank and you’d need to reset and try again. But sometimes this would lead to the display settings for Windows getting reset, and a couple of the changes would require a reboot to enable to that meant there was a chance it would fail to start up and reset themselves all over again. Also some kind of bug with the graphics drivers means it’s impossible to actually use the Shut Down option, it hangs during the shutdown procedure and I can’t remember if it requires or actually triggers a reboot. So to shut it down you have to use Restart instead, and wait for it to go through the memory check and tap the Power button then.
She is a beast of many quirks, but the old gal’s served me well 😛 And probably still would be, if MS didn’t force that MSN shutdown/Skype upgrade to >v6.
Just checked the latest weekly humble bundle and it is basically every pinball FX table that I don’t own.
*Ching Ching*
“Chronos is like the original Legend of Zelda on VR steroids, more depth than almost any other VR game at this point!”
That’s some good sounding hype alright. THREE WEEKS TO GO!
So says the one person in TAY with a VR headset
Hey that’s not true, Poita has a DK2!
Heh, just saw on Facebook from the NSW Police they seized a large number of cannabis plants in my region in recent & people are whining that they should be out there busting people for ice. Thing is from my experience, a lot of these people around here growing & selling weed are doing it to fund their ice (or other amphetamine) addiction & well the police arresting these people can sometimes lead them to the sources of ice in the area..
Hell my neighbour got raided a number of years back cause he had a hydroponic set up in his shed & was dealing as well to fund his amphetamine habit. He walked because he named a lot of others in the area that either dealt or manufactured.
I do kind of see their point though… I can’t remember the last time a stoner got high and went around punching and kicking random people, probably because it has never happened.
I’m not talking about the end user who gets stoned & nothing else. I’m talking about the fuckwits who are growing & selling the stuff to fund their other habits which are either amphetamine abuse or other illegal habits. And most of the time these people who’re busted, are growing on public land so that’s also uncool. Plus these people have ties to other crimes & always have an amount of unregistered firearms. They’re the dregs of society & I feel they need to be punished appropriately because they don’t contribute anything to society as far as I am concerned.
I get it though, we need to legalise marijuana, tax it & have it grown in safe & controlled conditions so it’s not a shit product or laced with some kind of dangerous chemical. I’m just sick & tired of seeing the criminals who are a problem in society profit off seemingly harmless substance.
Well yeah that’s it. I guess that’s the other discussion – is weed legalized, or do cops just start ignoring it? If it’s the former then you solve the funding-their-meth-habit problem too: if the government is selling safe, legal weed, then the meth-heads and bikie gangs won’t be.
Naw bike gangs will always find a way to make money. If it’s not manufacturing or running drugs, it’s selling stolen merchandise, or chop shops or racketeering etc..
That’s true… but it’s not a reason to attack one of the sources of their income. This just seems like a such a no brainer to me… Better quality weed, no danger of the weed being laced with anything, less revenue for illegal gangs, more tax revenue for the government, not having to deal with criminals if you want it… I literally cannot think of a downside. Let’s face it – today, in Australia, if you want weed it’s pretty damn easy to find it… so why not legalize it and get all the benefits that flow on from there.
I hear ya man. There’s no real downside, look at Colorado after they legalised it, it’s been so positive for them. Apart from the fact it’s driven up retail prices apparently.
But I swear the governments rebuttal is all “but derr drugs and they’s bad mmkkkay” That’s about all I get from it. Like how they come out attacking people for the idea of pill testing at festivals and are all “hurr durr you shouldn’t be taking them we oppose this idea of them being tested” let me guess they also oppose the idea of safe inject sites that supply clean needles etc..
Just because some drugs are illegal doesn’t mean you shouldn’t offer ways for the public to be safe about taking them.
Literally any time I hear someone make that argument, I direct them to the wiki page on drug policy in Portugal.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drug_policy_of_Portugal#Legal_status_of_cannabis_in_Portugal
Very few maintain their argument afterwards.
I met Togepi & Haunter on Saturday night.
I can’t believe the weekend has gone already.
Well I’m slowly getting through my back catalogue of games. This weekend I finally managed to finish GTAV story mode. It’s the fist GTA game I’ve managed to get through. Not sure what’s next, maybe Fallout?
@ anyone who knows anything about data recovery. I had my D Drive die yesterday, it’s a Western Digital Caviar Green 1.5TB, there’s some data on it I would really like back (actually all of it in retrospect) there’s maybe 150GB of stuff on there (more like 100GB i’d say) but Windows 10 can’t access the drive and the drive crashes Windows explorer when I connect it & on my other machine WIndows 7 recognises it, but that’s about it. I also crashed Windows explorer when I tried to access it, so yeah.. Ideas?
@welbot he is your best bet. =D possibly your only hope, even
Thanks Scree 😛
Try something like this on your win 7 machine.
http://www.easeus.com/datarecoverywizard/free-data-recovery-software.htm
Make sure you’ve got another drive attached that can hold at least twice the amount you want recovered.
Ah cheers dude! I’ll give that a shot in a moment!
Played the Flame in the Flood over the weekend.
took 3 days to travel 3.6 miles down river then die of dehydration inside a church after being chased by a pig & getting bitten by ants.
10/10 would fail miserably again.
Wow, that game looks really cool. I’d pick it up if I wasn’t already swarmed by recent purchases 😛
Said the guy about to buy The Division… 😛
In one years’ time Flame in the Flood will still be a whole game…
Yeah keen to get that next pay day and check it out; it’s weird this year I have more interest in all these odd little titles (like crashlands) than the majority of AAA games coming out.
Apparently it’s 100 days until E3. Not too long until we actually hear what this whole NX business is about.
“Hello everyone, and welcome to the Nintendo E3 show, DIRECT to you. Now you’re probably expecting us to talk about the NX, but we have nothing to report.
So uhh, we’re porting Skyward Sword to the WiiU, uhhh, and also… Super Mario Sunshine.
We have nothing to say about the new Pokemon (WHICH WILL BE AVAILABLE IN NINE LANGUAGES!). Have a good year.”
Pretty much
YOU WANNA HEAR BOUT NEW GAMES? HAHAH NOPE. BUT WE’RE MAKING MORE AMIBO THINGS!
Cloud Amiibo! no, not the FFVII dude with funky hair, that cloud sprite from SMB3.
a coin Amiibo. from… pretty much all the games.
Amiibo amiibo! coz fuck you.
SEE YA NEXT YEAR, JERKS.
I’m personally hanging out for the Trophy Base Trophy amiibo.
Trophy base trophy Amiibo Amiibo?
An amiibo of the card amiibo of the trophy base trophy.
…I’d buy that cloud Amiibo.
*sigh* you’re part of the problem Rize.
We’ll probably find out about it before E3, actually.
Including finding out that it’s actually called the Nintendo Puu or something.
Whee, Leap Motion get! Now just need to remember to get around to playing with it 😛
Just had the weirdest call from Tesltra, trying to upsell me again.
Spoilered for length.
“I see you have two mobiles and a landline.”“Yes.”
“What internet do you have?”
“TPG Unlimited for $60 a month.”
“Haha, that’s pretty good but unlimited doesn’t mean unlimited. Do you ever experience slow downs at busy periods.”
“Yes, that’s a universal issue.”
“Well we can pinpoint when that happens.”
(I wait for her to tell me they have somehow magically fixed this problem, but she makes no such claim, instead moving on)
“So I’m going to ask you some questions and see if I can offer you any of our great deals.”
“Ok.”
“Is your connection ADSL?”
“Yes.”
“How many devices are currently connected?”
“I dunno, eight?”
“EIGHT?”
“Yeah. Including the phones and tablets.”
“Do you play games online?”
“Yeah, three of the devices are consoles.”
*insert long pointless chat about what games I play and what TV shows I like with extended periods of silence presumably while she tries to figure out what she can sell me*
“Ok, so we can offer you 1 terabyte of data.”
“As opposed to my unlimited?”
“It’s not really unlimited though.”
“It is, when it works, which is most of the time.”
“Well anyway we can offer you Telstra Air, are you familiar with that product?”
“Is it like data share?”
“Not exactly. It allows you to, when you connect to a wifi network, to log into your Telstra account and use your own data over wifi instead.”
“So I have to connect to a wifi network but then log in to use up my own data instead of the other person’s? I don’t really see what’s in it for me.”
“Well by using wifi is how you get viruses.”
“But I’d be connected to wifi anyway.”
“But using your own connection with Telstra Air you get Broadband Secure, so it’s safe.”
“…right. So bottomline it for me, how much is this?”
“$95.”
“So, more than the $60 I pay for my unlimited.”
“But it’s not really unlimited. Plus as a thank you for you and your wife being Telstra customers for 10 years, we can offer you three months of free Foxtel platinum for free.”
“I don’t want Foxtel.”
“Foxtel is better than streaming as it does not use your internet connection.”
“I’m not interested in Foxtel. I don’t want to get it connected, I don’t want to get it disconnected after three months. I like Netflix and Stan.”
“It’s free.”
“And crap. Look, I just don’t think you can offer me anything today, thanks for calling.”
“Why do you think Foxtel would not be suitable for you?”
“It’s just inconvenient to have it. I don’t want it. I prefer streaming.”
“Which uses your data.”
“My unlimited data, yes. So, thanks for your call.”
“Ok, before you go *some spiel about reduced price movie tickets or some shit*”
Whaaaat the hell.
Not. Fucking. Interested.
That would probably be me. =P
*sigh* Goddamn Andy Penn doubling down on the limited is better than unlimited crap. I need to start re-evaluating this company as an investment.
Edit: On this note does anyone else have any experience with Telstra/Foxtel they could share?
One of my workmates had his wife say she was interested in an upgrade on their line which included the three months of Foxtel, and to talk to her husband about it.
It literally took him a 45 minute phone call just to cancel the service request that they hadn’t agreed to or signed.
I had a similar conversation years ago with a guy about how I can’t afford not to sign up for a free mobile phone.
I kept repeating that it wasn’t really free because I’d have to pay the monthly bill, so staying with no mobile was saving me money.
He didn’t seem to understand.
…That’s actually not allowed, they’re not supposed to comment like that on competitor-related stuff, in fact they’re not meant to comment on them at all.
Yes, I found that strange as well, especially since it was a lie. She was trying to say that it wasn’t unlimited in the sense that it might have slowdowns during peak times, but what she was actually saying was that it was not unlimited data, which is simply untrue. Plus, it’s not like Telstra is immune to peak period congestion. Hell, we’re on a Telstra line. The issues we get aren’t generally because of TPG.
We aren’t immune, nobody is, unless you have a 100% dedicated line from start to finish which you only really get with small local linkups like LANs and that’s it. I got TPG myself since it was the much better deal, even with my staff discount it was too much to provide ADSL… yes not 2, with limited data per month compared to TPGs unlimited data on ADSL2+, you can guess where I ended up going when you see options like that. I’d much rather be able to watch as much youtube as I want and download games through Steam without the anxiety of checking to ensure how much of my cap I’ve used for the month, I really hated that at my old place with my parents where we had limited data on cable.
I feel racist, but I read that in an Indian accent..
Man, fuck them for that. Also $95 for 1TB? Just goes to show how screwed us lot in the ‘regional’ areas get. I pay that much for 500GB (was 200gb a year ago) and now it’s $120 for 500gb apparently.
Well, you’re not wrong.
And wow, I had no idea they applied different pricing to different areas. Then again 1TB for $95 might be because they’re bundling it with our landline and 2 mobiles. But $120 for 500 gigs? Jeez.
Yeah I was in there the other getting my mobile switched over to them & asked my mate who was fixing me up if he could give me free local calls for the landline unfortunately the answer was no, & only option was to ‘upgrade’ to the next plan which is $120 a month, so nope fuck that.
I recently had to ring India to do some interviews for work… Having dealt with TPG call centre staff so often, the thought of an Indian, in India, getting a call from me with my (I’m assuming) indecipherable Australian accident was quite amusing.
… that’s not what Telstra Air is.
But it could be worse. I used to get fake people calling up pretending to be from Telstra to sell me something. I remember one opened with “I’m calling from Telstra and we will be upgrading your current internet plan”. Then they needed some details and the first question was either “who is your current provider” or “what are the details of your current plan” and I’m like, how can you be from Telstra and ‘upgrading’ me and not know that? :\
Yeah, apparently that’s a common scam. I was so bothered by this call that even though they knew my full name, my wife’s name, how many services I have, and my address, I still had to call Telstra to confirm that the sales call actually came from an authorised representative.
I just assume anyone calling me to offer me something on the phone is a scammer or a reseller and refuse to provide any details.
One time I got one of those “Microsoft Customer Support Windows Support” scam calls and told them straight up that it was a well known scam and I didn’t feel like wasting their or my time today. The girl on the phone became extremely irate, telling me it was not a scam, and then accused me of lying about my identity and trying to scam her. I’m like… bitch, you called me. And called me by the wrong name because the phone account is in my wife’s maiden name, since she never changed it.
You know what I do for a living right?
I once got a call from one of those spammers. ‘Microsoft security’ has detected a virus on my computer. I was like “how interesting, as it happens I work for Microsoft on their security product too!” Didn’t get a chance to ask for their alias before they hung up. 😛
Here’s how you sell a TPG customer a Telstra internet connection.
“Hey, have you ever had a problem with your TPG connection?”
“Yeah.”
“If you cut TPG out we’ll have no choice but to accept some measure of responsibility rather than just bouncing you between us and them. We’ll still try to weasel out and blame your router, but you’ll be significantly improving your odds of having your issue resolved.”
Boy howdy, and with a data cap I’ll be using my internet service less anyway so those problems won’t seem as important!
I’m not trying to sell you on Telstra, they suck and their prices are terrible, I’m just saying that’s the only way to stand a chance of convincing someone that less data at a higher price actually has some value. You won’t beat TPG on a raw dollars to data ratio so you’re better off attacking them on one of their many weak fronts. They’re the Sizzler of ISPs.
I wouldn’t go with Telstra but I am considering dropping TPG just because it’s a crap connection. TPG has never been great but they keep getting worse. There was a huge drop in quality when they introduced 24-7 unlimited plans. Support is just a flow chart designed to get you to quit bothering them and learn to live with the problem. The price is getting less competitive every year now that the competition has caught up.
If I can get a good connection on a 500GB or higher plan at the same price I think I’d be coming out ahead. I mean the appeal of unlimited data in the first place was that nobody was offering a data cap that came close to meeting my requirements. That’s changed. I use way more now but other ISPs offer way more too.
I’d only consider going with Optus or iiNet for unmetered Netflix. Honestly, I don’t have up to date usage stats but once we got Stan we burned through 180 gigs in about a week – and we were on TPG’s “500 gig” plan which was 250 on peak, 250 off peak (with “off peak” being defined as 3:15am to 3:27am every other Wednesday unless it’s a full moon) and realised that this was not going to work for us, so for the extra ten bucks I went unlimited and haven’t looked back.
We get some dropouts, some slowdowns, but average it up and we’re probably getting decent service 29 days out of the month – and sometimes the problem isn’t TPG, it’s Telstra.
iinet also does unmetered XBL if you own an Xbone.
It’s about the only reason we’re with iinet, unmetered netflix and XBL are the main things we’d use any other connection for, this way we can get by with a lower/cheaper tier of data cap.
In Diablo 3 news; Greater Rift 59 down and I’m done.
My current build just won’t get me any further no matter what I do. I’d need to totally overhaul all my items, skills and way of playing the game to progress, and I really can’t be bothered.
And now I need to find something else to do. Damn.
jesus. my strongest character is doing GR 25 solo ok. migh be able to get to 30, but 59 is crazy.
just out of curiosity, got a link to your BNet profile? interested in your gear / build.
Don’t think I’ve actually linked D3 on the ps4 to my bnet account. I’ll double check and sling you a link when I get home.
ah ps4. sorry. assumed you were on PC. vaguely recall i’ve got you on bnet? cant remember.
Yeah probably, I also have it on Pc :p
Should still be able to do it I imagine.
Damn… a friend and I were close to beating a 53. Solo’d a 50 last night with 3mins left, gonna try a 51 sometime this week. But pretty sure I need to swap out my Hydras for something else – I just can’t deal damage fast enough, and I’m taking way too much damage. Otoh, my crusader’s coming along nicely in T7 – hitting for up to 40M in passive thorns damage with only two pieces of the Invoker set 😛
I honestly have no idea how I managed to get quite this far. I’m not even close to doing 60 – best I’ve done is 5 mins overtime.
Jumped into the 50 last night without the Furnace in the cube… nearly did it. Plopped the Furnace in and aced it. What build are you running now? My friends and I keep killing your nemeses, to the point my friends even know who you are 😛 But one of the nemeses was accompanied by a wizard running Slow Time…
Ahaha, nice! Yeah that one might have been me experimenting with Delsere’s.
Still running the tal’rasha/ firebird combo based around disintegrate. I’ll send you and #35 a link to the build i did the 59 with this arvo.
Nice, I think I got up to … 52? I need to get back into playing D3. =P
Nice. You’re a Dh yeah? Found a maybe nice crossbow I’ll send your way.
So Mum has two hospital appointments. One for Tuesday and one for Wednesday. I’m annoyed because they seem to always give us either appointments back to back, or they give them to us several days before important holidays.
Yes, this is all I have to talk about. My life isn’t very interesting, okay? =P
@dc Walking dead, tonight’s episode
I love what Glenn did for the other guy. He was like, I have already killed, I will kill in your place so you don’t have to feel this. But I think he felt less horrible when he saw all the photographs.Gabriel has definitely understood that some people are worse then the walking dead. He’s finally understood that killing isn’t just for the sake of it, but to protect yourself from those who want to take away what you’ve built up. It’s the “us or them” mentality. I do like that he still prayed for the person.
Man, my kitchen rules is brutal. Two people have been going on about making their own bread to make their own breadcrumbs to coat fish. And then they complained that they used store bought biscuits instead of making their own. What the heck. =/
Why are your kitchen rules so brutal!?
WHY WON’T YOU CHANGE THEM!?!?
BECAUSE THEY’RE MY RULES AND I’M STICKING WITH THEM!
=P
SO MEAN!
IF YOU CAN’T STAND THE RULES, GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN!
Apology incoming in 3… 2… 1…
😛
But…they’re my rules =(
Climbing was good tonight. Overheard someone asking for some tips, after watching a climb I offered my #1 piece of golden advice, and suddenly had a new friend for the evening. Introduced as an aerialist, like doing that thingo with the silk strip hanging from the ceiling, climbing and wrapping around in it and stuff, as well as trapeze. Interesting. Otherwise works at the zoo. Spent way too much time talking, helped out with a bunch of climbs, and a point was made of having to come back again next week. For more help 😛
Totally don’t want to jump the gun or anything, but… well, she seems nice 😛
*starts up popcorn machine* =P
Yeah, cool, but what’s the #1 piece of golden advice?
Straight arms!
Best piece of advice I was ever offered, shame I didn’t get it til I was a good couple of years into it.
Right on.
Nothing worse than being stuck in a bent arm position and feeling those precious joules wasting away.
Sometimes I think I can see an actual stamina bar floating over my head.
Too many vidya.
That’s just the fluoros reflecting off your dome.
Good advice. Interestingly, Straight Arms is also the magic advice for paddling, and for the same reason – when you straighten your arms, you engage your bigger muscles in your shoulders, back and core.
Yeah, that’s the follow-on bit. Extend reach with your shoulders, by twisting and turning. Unleash the inner zombie 😛
It’s kinda fun trying to teach, kind of experimenting and seeing whether your theory works out in practise, as well as getting to observe from an outside perspective. Though feels bad when you’re telling them to try and do something they just can’t. Don’t know my own strength 😛
I wouldn’t normally do this, but I know several people here think razer products are overpriced
http://9gag.com/gag/aMGmyKV
Kotaku need to introduce a simultaneous up and down vote option =P
Sideways vote >
The only thing it’s missing is the stupidly high price
Costs $200 but comes with a set of programmable status LEDs and inductive charging?
HA!
Great minds and all that?
Forgot the bit where it breaks down after a few uses and you just throw it away rather than dealing with their tech support.
You can tell just by looking at it that it’s low quality, uncomfortable and poorly designed but for some reason buying one still feels like a good idea.
Only $200 and comes with multiple LEDs.
Unfortunately, because it’s a Razor product it won’t actually have any kind of absorbency.
I like how the languages on the box are English and… Indonesian. Eclectic!
Of course! Indonesians are totally the target audience
Tapi… kenapa?
(Finally get to put my Indonesian skills to use)
Yes…?
Wait, Pokken Tournament is out next weekend? There are way to many games coming out lately that I’d forgotten about…and I’m just sitting here thinking about Elite Dangerous.
Totally crept up!
That’s what’s great though! I do not feel compelled to buy anything, because I’m so invested in E:D that I literally don’t have time for anything else and I don’t feel like I’m missing out at all…
Short Rise of the Tomb Raider break then I’m back in E:D. 😀
Really enjoying RotTR.
Does look fantastic… Hopefully money will allow for me to buy games again soon 😛
So good, if you like that sort of thing. Way way fewer QTEs than the previous one (good!)
Character growth is clever too – her development through TR2013 and the comics was nicely handled (although I still think there’s a minor pacing issue in TR2013 where she gets a bit too good too quickly). Rhianna Pratchett’s writing is superb, though. It’s hard to do these stories (and there are a LOT of these stories, if you think back to all the Tomb Raiders, all the Uncharteds, and miriad other similar tales) without falling into obvious tropes. There’s nothing revolutionary or completely surprising about RotTR so far, but it’s well balanced and well told with some nice touches.
I’d probably have made life in the later stages of the game easier on myself if I’d concentrated on equipment upgrades rather than weapon upgrades earlier on though, I’ve suddenly hit a resource drought and I think it’s my own fault – I need to do a little more hunting than I really want at this stage of the story. Will take a slightly different approach if I do a replay (which I may well do on PS4).
So we entered Tiglet in the latest bonds competition which as far as I can tell is way of getting facebook mums to constantly share bonds messages on facebook. Although they are doing it correctly, no facebook needed to vote and just an confirmation email sent.
We also got 40% off store wide so that was a nice little incentive. But on to the important stuff if you feel like voting you can go here http://www.bonds.com.au/babysearch/entry/index/id/338747/
If you don’t feel like voting you should go there anyway, cos gosh darn she is looking cute
my sister in law has entered my niece in that bonds thing & is spamming “VOTE FOR MY BABY” links hourly.
every time i see it, i cant help but think “NO. YOUR BABY IS FAT & LOOKS STUPID”
I’m the worst uncle.
Well if they hadn’t spawned a fat stupid-looking baby you wouldn’t need to think that so it’s not like it’s your fault. 😛
Send her a screenshot of you voting for Tiglet.
Along with a picture of you doing it with a smile on your face as you look into the camera.
All babies are fat and look weird.
…
Then again, I’m not much of a baby person. =P
Pyrean’s baby managed to skip a lot of the weird looking part by being born as a six month old, and quickly growing to the size of a two year old.
Didn’t avoid the fat bit though.
I don’t think any of them can skip the fat bit.
Did it still look like a potato though?
My nephew’s now about 4 months old, and his arms look like they should be attached to the Michelin Man.
All babies are ugly.
Monster Hunter!
It’s always nice when a significantly multiplayer game still has an online community to be able to just drop in on more than a year after launch.
Same thing I loved about MH3U – although it was an early 2013 re-release, it was still easy to find other hunters online a year and a half later.
In news surprising no-one, I’m back on the Monster Hunter hype train. It was far too easy to just pick it up and keep going from where I was up to when I stopped around mid last year.
I can’t wait to play as a cat and annoy everyone.
There better be a “meow” button I can spam
Do we know if the cats are their own separate weapon class or can they use any regular hunter weapon?
I want to be a cat that goes around throwing bugs at monsters and bouncing around on a big stick 😛
Best thing about Okami was there was a dedicated bark button. I would spam it, Sid would think there was a dog and go out the back to find it. He would come in a short time later, where I would then spam the bark button again.
Good times.
You should get the new monster hunter and play as a cat. Mess with Sid like the good old days.
Haha, good ole doggies.
I was watching a YouTube vid one time that played a squeak noise occasionally. This caused Boss to jump up and try to dig through the laptop to find the squeak toy 😀
Hilarious in an “oh shit don’t break that” kinda way.
Sid has looked behind the TV but never tried to dig a laptop
*sigh* I got my hard drive to read & show, and I got to copy at least one thing off which was a bunch of photoshop documents, even if 3 of them won’t copy. Sadly I can’t get my music to copy at all :/ It just won’t got, I want this particular copy of it since I fixed up all the files, folders etc & deleted a fair bit & iTunes sees these directories as well. So yeah that’s a pain..
Well that was a… weekend I guess 😐
I didn’t end up getting to spending the usual Friday/Saturday with my boy as he had Gastro and he couldn’t be transported due to his condition so that put a damper on things. Saturday night, I had my 35th birthday party which was pretty epic. I had such a good time with about 30 or so others from what I can remember of it. Everyone was buying me drinks which so I ended up drinking waaaay too much.
I ended up staying at a mates house and then went out for lunch with them and another friend the next day who was also staying there.
After that, I had my 5th date with a girl which didn’t really go that well I guess you could say.
It was a fun night but during it she mentioned that she wasn’t sure what she was feeling and possibly wanted it to just be a friendship rather then a date thing but then followed it up at the end of the night saying “I don’t know what I want” and we ended up kissing :/
I have no idea what’s going on haha!
I took yesterday off to spend with my boy as he still had the last bit of Gastro and I wanted to spend time with him regardless. I had him overnight and dropped him back off this morning. It was a fun day with him regardless 🙂
So yeah, I don’t know about this whole dating thing. It seems to be more trouble and stressful then it’s worth. Isn’t it supposed to be fun?!
But kissing is fun, right?
Yes, I guess? I’m just going to assume that we will be just friends and leave it at that. It’s easier that way. I believe I shall now take an extended break from dating. Being single is much easier 😀
Sounds like a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy. You think it will end up in you being just friends, so the chances are that’s where you will end up.
I’d say go for it – you seem to like this girl, she seems to like you, give it a shot. Hell, if it doesn’t play out, then you can remain as friends.
Not this time unfortunately, she sent a message yesterday saying she wanted to be friends as I suspected. Oh well, I’m going to need a break after this one. Back at it again in a few months I guess 😐
http://imgur.com/gallery/IjY7NiV
Relevant.
Boooooo! 🙁
At least you tried man!
Dating is the spice of life! Spice in the sense you feel so damn good about ordering the extra spicy chilli cheese fries on the way in and you regret it a few hours later. My point being. Don’t order the damn extra spicy chilli cheese fries. Carry on.
That said yes that’s exactly what dating is. I mean the whole “i don’t know what I’m feeling but I’ll kiss you anyways” is so high school cliche but since both of you are probably well and truly out of high school my inkling is there’s something bothering her that she doesn’t feel ready to talk about just yet, usually something that she might be afraid is a deal breaker. My advice (cos you know you totally didn’t ask for it but this is the internet and you get what you pay for) is talk it out. aka the talk; aka whats going on here; aka am I ever going to see a post about netflix and chill.
Sorry to hear about your kid! Hope he’s feeling better!
Haha! I wish I could mate 🙂
The thing is, I really liked this girl and it didn’t feel great to hear that news. I know what it means though so I’m pretty sure we will just remain friends now. I asked her what she meant by it and she couldn’t tell me, she just said she was unsure. She was sweet about it though, she had tears in her eyes when she was telling me and I actually had to hug her and reassure her it was OK 🙂
I also get attached quite easily I’ve found so it takes me a few months before I feel ready for dating again. This is only the second time I’ve had a connection/attachment to a girl since my ex, and I’m also quite a sensitive fellow so I don’t seem to be able to go out and get back on the horse so to speak as quickly as some others can. I know I will at some point though 🙂
My boy is pretty much back to his normal adorable self now. He had some trouble sleeping last night but he’s recovered pretty well considering how he was from what I hear. Onwards and upwards from here!
What?! Who the hell cries when they’re the person initiating the break up! Aw man I didn’t realized you’d caught the feelings already. Sorry to hear about it then =\ Yeah if you’re certain about the message (and not just speculating like your ice cream date) then best thing you can do is step away for a bit. That said from what you’re telling me and the kiss tells me it doesn’t sound like you two have closure yet.
I guess how you treat dating is also dependent on what you want from it; if you’re looking to actually meet someone and forge a connection then yeah you’re right that’s a slow burn kind of game. And if it is a slow burn game and you had feelings at stake then walking away from a conversation where she ends it saying “she doesn’t know” that just tells me it might be worth finding out. 9/10 you won’t regret trying, but 10/10 you will regret not trying 🙂
Haha, yeah I know. She said she didn’t want to hurt me 🙁
It’s all good mate, it was only the beginning of the dreaded feelings so nothing like the 13 year relationship breakup 🙂
I’ve sent her a message so we’ll see what happens from here but I’m pretty sure that’s it at this stage. Ah well, it happens 🙂
I’m definitely the long term relationship type of guy, not the short term or casual style dating kind of guy so this is bound to happen. Did I mention I don’t like dating? 😀
34 DAYS!
cc @shane
This made me think you two must be playing an incredibly slow version of Majora’s Mask.
Dawn of the 34th Day.
It’s the new beginner mode they put in Majora’s Mask.
Well in 34 days many of us will die so yes?
Just did a survey for a pet store I have one of them membership cards with and one question was all;
“Do you consider yourself a pet parent?”
I’m sorry, but that term ‘pet parent’ is almost as bad as ‘fur baby’ my dog is my dog & I am her master. End of discussion.
Well..
Work has gotten progressively worse in the last 3 weeks.
Almost in need of another holiday. only 5 weeks after my previous one.
Worked for 3 hours after getting home last night. the only thing grounding me was Master of orion.
Soooo done with this shit.
I finally lost a game last night – got absolutely overrun by a huge Sakkra fleet, I had total tech dominance but got crushed under the weight of numbers.
What race are you playing? I thoroughly enjoyed my Alkari playthrough, mostly because the advisor was voiced by John Kassir and I could totally imagine my advisor being the Crypt Keeper pretending to be a bird. I think Psilon have been my favourite though, Alan Tudyk is good in everything he does and their whole ‘we’re gonna research you into the ground’ style is good fun.
I liked the Humans, once I got the hang of it. The Bears are a bit tough but I think I’m getting there.
I think I’d probably enjoy the Psilons the most, as I do enjoy the idea of RESEARCH EVERYTHING!
With humans I upset everyone with my expansionist ways. Then I Went to war with races after they got pissy when I said no to things. Then I knocked out the Psilons, and then bought some votes in the Council. thus Winning.
Humans are a bit of a dud at the moment… their innate espionage bonus goes to waste seeing as they haven’t implemented spying yet. I have a feeling they will roll out the Darloks at the same time as the espionage features, since Darloks are traditionally the spy-focused race.
Help I’m getting hyped for TMS #FE. Was just looking at a thread on NeoGAF and
“If you have ever watched a Macross anime.
The way this game tackles the music elements is VERY VERY similar to Macross.
It’s great, it’s hype. It just lacks the transforming robots, but you get amazing Mirage designs instead.”
My wallet. Take it all.
Neg, what have we learned about getting hype for things?
I know but I can’t help it. Every now and then I get hyped for something and it’s worth it.
Most of the time it’s just crushing disappointment though. 🙁 But it’s not like I have much else in life to be excited for right now.
@haggis this reply here perfectly sums up why people date =P
Except that last line; and that’s just specific to neg because he lives in the same country as Trump.
You laugh now, but if Trump wins how long before we all live on Planet Trump?
Not happening.
He’ll destroy us all in a thermonuclear exchange well before he conquers the world.
Lol, well the part where “it’s worth it” still hasn’t happened to me yet and I’m still firmly entrenched in the “crushing disappointment” camp. One day maybe, one day… *stares dreamily into the distance*
I was hype for the Master of Orion reboot….
It is shit.
JUST KIDDING YOU GUYS IT’S AWESOME HYPE IS AMAZING YAY FOR MOOI think you mean master of Onion
There is actually a plant-based race coming (it hasn’t been added to the game yet), so it will soon be possible to be the vegetable overlord of the galaxy.
It’s just how I read master of orion.i always read it as master of onion
I like your name better. There should definitely be a food-based 4X
I must ruin it for everyone. Everyone should read as onion!
It looks great, I see no problem.
If it’s really that bad you can give me your wiiooo & the game :p
If it wasn’t going to cost eleventy million dollars to send it to you I’d consider it.
Dengeki’s reviews called it a masterpiece and say it’s basically an evolved version of Shin Megami Tensei’s gameplay with a lighter story. And it just looks crazy.
The whole thing looks like Persona without demon fusion.
Is there demon fusion?
I think the characters have a fixed Persona-like ‘Mirage’ rather than demons, and the Mirages are the Fire Emblem characters.
Yeah, that’s how it looked to me. Bit of a shame. Love me some fusion
@35 @os42
Yeah so Blizzard are lazy at the porting and you can’t share your PS4 profile.
This is the gist though:
http://www.diablofans.com/builds/77506-jos-59-grift-build-for-those-asking
Cool… Was wondering about the Madness… I have a spare Deathwish if you’d like? 😛
I should probably look at using my legendary gems… /facepalm 😛 Have been ranking a few, and have a couple at 25 but haven’t managed to roll sockets on my rings yet – hampered by Death Breath drops. Time to invest in a proper farming build, methinks. :3
Yeah, the Madness is an strong Ancient and has bonus Disintegrate damage so does well enough. I do have a Deathwish but it’s not good enough to use and have been putting off cubing it cause it’s the only one I’ve seen.
Man the amount of mats I wasted trying to get those sockets…
Know the feeling. I really should cube my SS so I can use an ancient weapon… and probably would have done it by now, had I not found that Furnace so darn useful. Still, I could probably figure out a better combo that gets me 30-50% global damage boost, rather than Furnace’s 50% to elites only… Need to go through my stash again, see what I have.
So I’ve been sinking quite a bit of time into Endless Legend after all this talk about Master of Orion; goddamn that game is still addictive as hell. I can’t believe how well made and polished it feels; also forgot how awesome and zen like the in game sound track is. So much so that my girlfriend actually stopped watching her stupid TV show to comment on how good the music was.
That said looking at this month I am sorely underwhelmed by any new games coming out; am I missing something or does it feel like the year peaked early with XCOM 2?
I was playing that and having fun. (Endless Legend)
Then I started my military campaign and started sacking some of the million shitty cities the AI likes to build everywhere.
Then I discovered you cannot raze cities you capture for like 30 turns. So my only options are:
1 – Have my economy and happiness annihilated by having too many crappy cities with no output.
2 – Wait half a season between each city I take giving time for my enemies to rebuild their forces while my dust is wasted up-keeping an idle army.
3 – Only take the good cities half a map away and leave a massive swath of enemy territory surrounding my lands.
At which point I quit and never went back.
I can understand why they thought this was a good idea but in practice it is fucking stupid and completely ruins the flow of any military orientated game and just do it like CIv does you idiots and not have cities captured immediately if there are no defending units.
Positioning of cities no longer matters because districts can only go up to level 2 with a dlc that added a new faction; because of that you no longer have to wait for complete ownership and destroy them and rebuild. You just give them time to go up in approval.
With regards to happiness they start of crap but if you use luxury boosters; the right district builds and the right research (the first two tiers of research allow you to build happiness boosting buildings and as you go further in you get research that gives permanent discounts to expansion approval) you can get them to normal or happy in 5 turns. I presently have 16 cities and all of them are at 80% or higher because of that. The key is to build 4-5 solid foundation cities in the early game that will feed happiness to your conquered cities later on. I only engaged in skirmishes early on and then when I was ready captured 4 cities back to back and settled down again until my approval came back up. Also unhappiness in and as of itself doesn’t really do anything aside from slow down growth in that city; so if you have 5 happy cities churning out massive amounts of resources you can afford to have 4-5 unhappy ones that just break even.
That said it is annoying have to hold one army back after capturing a city to defend it while your other army attacks.
Edit: You can’t deny that it is pretty awesome playing as 8 very distinct races than the 200 generic Civ ones that are basically only differentiated by a single army unit.
Right, I’ve delayed this for no reason for a while. Last week, I asked about the Pathfinder Humble Bundle, but I botched the question and got the wrong answers. Instead of asking another question, I hid in my hole for a week.
@redartifice and @negativezero , I inquired about the Humble Bundle for Pathfinder, and you both told me that the $25 tier wasn’t worth the money. Okay, I guess I’ll go for the ‘pay what you want’ tier. I assume it’s just digital PDFs for me to print off? I don’t want to pay $50 for shipping.
Even if it’s just PDFs, I’m still not sure what I would be doing. I’ve never played a pen n’ paper RPG, and this seemed like a cheap way to start. I know so little about what I’m getting into, I don’t know what questions to ask.
OK, no problem.
The reason we advised against the tier with physical rewards is the shipping was super expensive. If you go for the pay what you want tier above $15 (US), you get all pdfs, including pdfs of the physical reward (the starter set).
I wouldn’t advise printing them, as a bunch of these are multi-hundreds of pages. A tablet or laptop is better, then just print the bits you need
To start playing, you need:
Pens and paper, obviously
2-4 buddies to play with
at least one set of polyhedral dice (Available from any gaming store)
That starter set contains pre-generated characters, and an adventure to kick off. One of you will have to be the “Game Master,” the guy who runs the adventure and plays as the non-player characters, while the rest of you will be a character each.
The other books in that bundle either give you more options for your character, or more options as a Game Master. when starting out, look at ONLY the Starter Set, core Rulebook, and Gamemastery guide. Once you’re across the systems, then you can dip into the other stuff.
For system specific advice, @popdart5 is super across pathfinder. For general game mastering advice, I’m happy to chat any time.
I love Pathfinder, it’s similar enough to 3rd edition – which is when I started playing – but with a hell of a lot of improvements. Honestly though, having played a little of 5e D&D, I’d recommend it over Pathfinder for new players.
With that out of the way then;
Have you got 3-5 potential players?
I assume you’re planning on being Dungeon Master (DM, the person who runs the game, all the non-player characters, monsters, etc)?
Are you (and your players) familiar with complex RPGs and board games? The rules will come a lot easier to you if that’s the case. I’ve found, among friends, going the other way is the same – all of us with D&D experience pick up the nuances of board games much quicker because we’ve been trained to spot keywords and their very specific meanings.
The best way to get into it, is to get into it. You’ll make mistakes, but you (and your group) will need to learn what is most fun for you all – what I enjoy from a pen and paper might not be the same as what you all do, so be careful of investing too much in what any of us say in regards to that.
I have to agree with Spadge. Pathfinder is complex and not exactly easy to understand for new players and GMs. But the good news is that not understanding the rules is only as important as you want it to be. Pathfinder is as simple or as complex as you want it to be and you can have fun any which way you want. While some people reckon there is a wrong way to play, at the end of the day it all comes down to if you enjoy it with your friends and fellow players.
Feel free to take your time in getting into Pathfinder. Learn it at your own pace and play when you want to play. Heck, I’m still learning new quirks of the system after almost five years of playing it so don’t feel too overwhelmed that things don’t quite make sense.
@phlanispo: The starter set PDF you get with the beginner game thing is an abridged, simplified rules set that is more limited but you’ll find it eliminates a good chunk of the complexity, plus it’ll ease you into the wider game.
It’s got heaps of rules, but it’s not actually that complicated a game to play. A huge chunk of the complexity comes from all the thousands of spells and abilities they’ve added into the game over time, and also character creation which is complicated. However the beginner game has pre-rolled balanced characters in the various archetypes and limited progression, so no need to worry about a good chunk of that.
There’s also tons of people out there who will help you. Ask around any FLGS and I guarantee you there will be Pathfinder Society people that can give you pointers or invite you to beginner games (Pathfinder Society, by the way, is a sort of sanctioned organized play for Pathfinder, you can take your Pathfinder Society character into other society games at a given level and so on)
That’s what I get for not proof reading what I post better – I didn’t mean to say that Pathfinder is complex to a point that I’d discourage people from playing it, just that it’s more complex that 5e and perhaps unnecessarily so. I should have emphasised my second point more heavily – that although they will make mistakes when they start playing, it doesn’t matter in the slightest as long as people are having fun.
Keen to hear more from @phlanispo though – I’m sure, with our combined experience, we can come up with some more specific advice for their group.
Everybody in this thread has pretty much covered it, and with good advice, but I think we’re in the same basket. Save money on shipping and go with the digital version of the Beginner Box. Printing the character sheets, tokens, and maps will cost a few dollars max and they’re all the physical materials (excluding dice etc.) that you need to get started. Don’t print off the rule book PDFs because they’re quite large and can be easily read from a screen.
I grabbed most the of the tiers within the first two days it was up. Spent the better part of last week reading through the Core Rulebook and being slightly annoyed with how obtuse some explanations are. However, the rules in the Beginner Box are in a friendly layout and set you up for understanding the Core Rulebook.
I don’t think the rulebook is that obtuse. The layout makes sense and it generally reads pretty well.
If you want to look at an obtuse RPG rulebook try the fantasy flight games Star Wars RPG books. They’re almost as shit as FFG’s board game rulebooks.
I just want to disagree a little with @spadge- don’t be intimidated by any complexity. Especially at lower levels, D&D-variants (which Pathfinder is) are fairly easy to grok. There’ll be a little bit of head scratching on the GM side, but it’s nothing you can’t work out and we’ve all been there at some point (though for me it was 4th Edition D&D).
Essentially all you need to know is to do stuff, you roll a D20 and add a modifier to it. A Bigger number is better. If the numbers aren’t quite right at the start, who cares as long as you’re having fun
I didn’t mean to suggest that they should be intimidated, just that there’s a set of skills that you learn from these kind of games, like complex board games, that make learning other ones much easier. When the rule book says “As a move action”, it has a very specific meaning, and that definition is what allows that action to fit in with other sections of the rules predictably.
When I started playing, we were more concerned with rules than we are now – it was important that the system we were using allowed us to do what we desired, and 3e was good for that. As we got older and more experienced, we were (I was?) more willing to just handwave things and make them up on the fly – “I don’t see why not” became a phrase that I tried to use as often as I could in response to players’ questions. If we still played as much as we used to, I’m sure that we’d gravitate to less rules-heavy systems because that’d suit our style of play – as it is, none of us are inclined to bother learning another system so we play Pathfinder, which strikes a pretty good balance. Star Wars Saga Edition is a lot of fun, we’ve been playing that recently.
Digimon Cyber Sleuth remains awesome. Hard to peel myself away at night to fit in some ESO.
ESO remains awesome. I don’t really pay attention to why the NPCs are making me run about & collect &/or kill things, but I’m enjoying it.
Sheogorath is still a champ.
Is that game out in AUS? I couldn’t find any stock of it in JBHiFi or EB
Digital only unless, like me, you import an Asian cart from Singapore.
Much cheaper digital though.
Unless you want the ps4 version, in which case, I’m not sure.
Yeah I was looking at the PS4 version…. hmm might have to check the PS store tonight
divisiondivisiondivisiondivisiondivisiondivisiondivisiondivisiondivisiondivisiondivisiondivisiondivisiondivisiondivisiondivision
Oh, and I was playing XCOM while waiting for The Division.
I swear none of my guys could hit the broad side of a barn…
That’s because you’re meant to be shooting at the aliens! Not barns! =P
Oooooooh, riiiiiiiight.
So I’ve just started climbing this month’s ladder in Hearthstone and normally I demolish my past ranks 19-14 and then it becomes a bit more of a slog. This month going from rank 19-18 I’ve faced 5 control warriors and 2 control priests and if I wasn’t playing the greediest fricking reno lock I would’ve been slammed. These guys were running perfect meta decks with all the legendaries required; what the hell game?! How is anyone who hasn’t sunk a few thousand dollars into this game expected to win at ranked with this kind of crap?
First week of the month is always tough, since all the legend-rank decks are combined with the trash decks when the rankings get reset. Give it a few more days and all the top-tier decks should have made their way to the higher rankings
It’s just so annoying! I could counter half these stupid p2w decks if I had the more expensive cards but like what is any normal person expected to do against a warrior who plays all his removal in the first 5 turns (I kid you not he used execute; slam; brawl and 2 shield slams) and then followed that up with rag, sylvanas, justicar and ysera. I’m starting to reach that point with HS again where I become really disillusioned with how $$$ greedy the game gets making it impossible to ever actually get ahead and save your gold and dust.
I quit a couple of months back.
I’d just reached the stage where I was having some success against the P2W decks (reno lock ftw), but I knew if I wanted to have fun with it I’d need to sink either hundreds more hours grinding and/or hundreds of dollars on packs, and just thought… fuck it, what’s the point? I’d forked out for Naxx and LoE, so I’d spent as much as a AAA game, but I still didn’t have a competitive deck and getting pumped by guys that just played legendary after legendary from turn 5 onwards every single fucking game was driving me nuts.
I was just at the point of getting hooked when the Grand Tourney was about to come out. Considered pre-ordering the pack-o-decks and then I just said “Nah, why bother?” and haven’t touched it since. I’m happy with that decision.
Yeah given their new release schedule is 2 new packs a year and one adventure it means you’re expected to spend close to $800 every 6 months in order to have access to most cards from a release. That’s just ridiculous. And HS has never even once done a reasonable discount on their packs (the most notable being 10 extra basic packs over xmas). So… yeah I’m probably very close to quitting and going back to HotS for my competitive fix.
Yeah the new standard format is absolutely going to destroy my competitive edge as well; I’ll lose a lot of powerful legendaries from Naxx and Dr. Boom (1/3 legendaries I have from GvG). And given that at the moment I don’t even have all legendaries from the basic pack and only one legendary from TGT it seems like a good time to throw the towel in.
The game’s just too damn expensive when you consider that cards are going to be phased out on a 18 month cycle and it can take up to 18 months just to unlock all the cards from a pack. So in order to stay competitive you’ve got to shell out like crazy…. Might end up sinking this time and money into duelyst instead which was a lot more $$$ friendly with legendaries coming up every 5 packs instead of HS’s 1 legendary every 40 packs or $50.
Ah, good one Telstra. First bill for my phone & you’ve billed me incorrectly. It’s meant to be $60 a month not $70 you twats. Can this company ever get anything right?
I finally left them a couple of months ago. They refunded my part final month by CHEQUE. FFS.
Haha, wow..
Oh. Devil’s Turd is over already.
Welp!
Perhaps you should consider a change in diet?
Holy shit I just tried out the Leap Motion in VR and it’s amazing. Got Mum to have a go and she was giggling like mad, super impressed.
Can’t wait to get the full kit with Touch controllers and everything, it’s going to be insane.
So Melbourne’s weather has gone nuts again. Last night we had a low of 26. 2-fucking-6. This meant that nothing got done. It was just too hot to do anything. Hopefully this last lot of heat is the end of it
Was quite yuck, although I managed to sleep ok which was good
It was awful
I’m breaking my digital-only-on-PS4 rule and it feels bad.
But the thing is, I get 20% off on preorders / first week purchases of physical copies of all new games via Amazon, plus free release-date delivery on most stuff, so basically it costs me $12 less to buy physical vs buying digital and I get the games on release anyway. Which means for anything I’m going to pick up at or close to launch I’d be silly to buy digital, the digital price isn’t going to go down to that level for 6-9 months.
I’m wary about going digital on consoles. I just don’t trust Microsoft or Sony to not at some point in the future render them unplayable.
Yeah but it’s super convenient not to need to juggle discs.
Super less impressive though.
I have friends that believe Microsoft is making moves to pull out of the gaming/console market and all their digital content will be lost forever if it’s not installed when the servers go offline for the last time.
Dunno if I see that happening soon myself but that kinda thing is definitely in the realm of possibility.
Definitely possible. It seems that many people are paranoid about it but it’s a more sensitive issue with consoles due to limited intergenerational compatibility and the fact that as hardware has become more powerful and complex, it’s also become less reliable with less longevity (not helped by heaping helping of firmware updates that bog the system down with unwanted and unused features). People love whipping out the old NES to play Mario Bros. but I doubt, once I retire my 360, I’ll ever bring it out for a quick game of Geometry Wars or whatever.
Part of the appeal of PC gaming is the apparent immortality of our steam libraries. Not only is Steam unlikely to fail in the foreseeable future, the flexibility of the platform means that the game files are always going to exist in some playable format somewhere but in addition we can reliably play games from the 80s and 90s on modern PC hardware via emulators and DOSbox. Hell, I’m an avid console gamer but I can’t deny the fact then in five or ten years time when I feel like playing Mass Effect from start to finish it’s probably not going to be by plugging the 360 back in or playing some remastered edition on the Xbox 4runner, it’s going to be on PC because I got the games for 80 cents each in a steam sale.
Apart from a small handful of console exclusives that actually matter to me, I’m not concerned about the comparatively limited lifespan of console gaming, even in the worst case scenario.
Mm, true enough.
For me one of the strengths of console gaming is how much of a social platform they can be.
I too probably wouldn’t boot up an old 360 to play mass effect. But I can sure see me doing so to play some borderlands or halo with mates who only have those old consoles.
Hell it wasn’t that long ago that my siblings and cousins would play crash team racing at family shindigs just like old times.
I too can see me donating old consoles and games to friends/ relatives with youngish kids and not heaps of money. We did that with our ps1.
Also on the pc gaming front, I hope people’s doomsday predictions about UWP don’t bear fruit…
Yeah this is my issue with a digital library on consoles; Steam for some reason seems significantly more stable. Primarily because Steam is the primary product of a single company; for console producers their online stores are just side projects they might lose the ability to support down the line.
That said I waited a good 7-8 years after steam first came out before I ever dared to link a keycode to it =P
“limited intergenerational compatibility”
Don’t forget which console platform is actually adding emulation layers to allow for inter-generational compatibility. Hint: it’s not Sony.
I would totally love to see Steam fall over. Just to see what happens 😛
Not happening. Revenue from Xbox live transactions was up over 50% Year over Year for Q4 2015. Xbox One hasn’t been an amazing success but Microsoft makes a lot of profit off Xbox Live and they’re banking heavily on selling devices and services rather than relying on boxed products like Windows and Office.
They probably do need to figure out a way to turn the Xbox One around though.
I think it was just a kneejerk reaction to Microsoft closing something like 8 studios this year? Lionhead in particular stung because fable has been a pretty big draw for the Xbox platform, and it feels like their potential was being squandered on shit like Fable: The Journey. Then they trash Fable Legends? Was the beta going that badly?
Fable’s been shit since forever though.
I liked Fable 2, and Fable 3 was mostly ok. I’d have bought another Fable. I feel like it still had some brand power for sales/profit purposes.
Mostly success! I got like 99% of my music off my hard drive. For some reason 1,000 or so songs couldn’t copy which is a pain, but oh well. Main thing is I got my 90gb of music back >_>
Nice work mate. what’s 1000 songs out of 90gb anyways.
congrats.
about 150 songs out of my ipods 1700 song playlist so i’ll locate those the rest, meh. I can’t be bothered lol.
Actually it was only 151 out of the entire library, which ain’t bad at all. I’m happy, I can get those files out of my old old back up anyway.
Most missing turned out to be Deep Purple, Bowie & Dio. Heh.
Not the Bowie…!!!
I likely wouldn’t even notice those songs were gone from my playlist, or it would take me a long time to realize. I have so much music in there its not really a playlist anymore just a whooooole lotta music.
Haha, sadly I do when playing it back in iTunes, it comes up with a missing song and nothing plays 😛
Well done. Did you use a dock? I must know your secrets.
Nah, I ripped open an external cadd & used the sata interface & just dumped everything onto my HTPC running windows 7 since Win 10 on my main PC wouldn’t let me access it heh.
Senran Kagura is releasing in exactly one week.
I’m still only at the start of Chapter 6 in Trails of Cold Steel. Rough estimate is that I have around 20 hours left to play. I managed to get my forward progress stymied because of trophies.
Basically each classmate along with Millium, Crow, Sara and Towa have a specific trophy. To unlock the trophy you need to have their link above a certain level (link level 5 for original classmates, less for the others) and have seen their bonding events in chapter 6 (or chapter 5 for Towa). Trouble is there’s 11 characters you can spend time with in Ch 6 but you have to select 5 of them OR spend 2 special ticket items on hanging out with them in the final chapter. It’s going to be a tricky juggling act, basically, to make sure I get enough of them on the first playthrough that I can pick up the rest on my second pass. The obvious ones are to pick up Laura (already maxed her link), Emma & Alisha (very close to max) but the other two are really hard to pick as the entire rest of the cast are at level 3 or just into 4.I hate that my brain automatically has to minmax shit like this 🙁
Division PC people (@cakesmith @morkai @blaghman @cj and whoever else):
If you do decide to get the season pass you can grab it from Uplay directly for 20% off using 100 Uplay points. That makes it about $48AUD. Not sure if there are better deals elsewhere.
This is where I grabbed my base game from;
https://uk.gamesplanet.com/game/tom-clancy-s-the-division-uplay-key–2631-1
and they have the Season Pass for 24 GBP, which is like 45.90AUD… Take your pick I guess, whichever is easier.
I still haven’t decided on whether I’m going to get it or not, but figure it’s worth keeping an eye out at least.
Did you get a chance to play at all last night?
I added the key on Monday night, left it to download monday night and during the day Tuesday while I was at work. Got home, had dinner, jumped on the computer and BAM! 4Gb patch!
So no, unfortunately not.
Is the game any good? Blowing $50+ on a season pass seems like a huge waste of money if the game’s another Destiny.
The game is definitely good, but yeah, committing to an expensive season pass is an entirely separate question and not one anyone can really answer yet.
Who loves spending an hour on the phone with Telstra sorting out an Office 365 licensing bungle?
*crickets*
If it makes you feel any better, I’m up to about 5 hours on the phone with Apple support since yesterday morning for a licencing thing, with no end in sight.
YAAAAAAY!
Eugh. Paypal lies to me.
I saw The Witcher 3 for $25 on GMG AU, wasn’t sure if the price was in AUD or not. Decided to go through with the purchase so I could see whether there would be any FX involved. Got to the stage where is said ‘confirm’, with a note saying ‘ you will have a chance to review your purchase before confirming’, so I’m like ‘ok, cool, let’s keep going then’. Redirects straight back to GMG saying my purchase had been processed.
I mean, from what I’ve heard $37 is still a pretty damn good price for the game, but still… eugh.
Also, I finished that new Tomb Raider game last night.
Not RotTR, that other new one that isn’t actually new anymore. Good game though!
FFS. They should specify. :-/
And yes, Tomb Raider was really good. Did you play on PC or console? The prettiest version was the Definitive Edition on PS4/xBone. (I played PS3, PC and PS4…)
I’d probably suggest a break before you do Rise of the Tomb Raider – it’s really good but it’s very similar in mechanics. The story is great, way more side tombs, and it’s BEAUTIFUL, but you’ll probably get TR’ed out if you played them back to back.
I played it on 360 and rebought it on Xbone… then I think it went free in GWG a few months later. No big deal, I thoroughly enjoyed it even on a second playthrough.
2 playthroughs on PS3, then it was super cheap on PC for some sale/promo reason (maybe I got it in a SqEnix sale on Steam?) and I installed to see how pretty it could be (quite pretty). Then the remastered on PS4 came out and I felt like a replay so I did. And wow it looked good.
PC – I’m still rocking a GTX750ti so I will not be maxing out the graphics on anything other than Solitaire.
I don’t think I’ll have an issue with getting TR’d out – I’m notoriously cheap (it must come from the same place as my big nose and jew-fro) so I won’t be buying RotTR until it’s a lot cheaper than it is at the moment.
Fair enough. I’m nowhere near maxing graphics with my GTX680 (which is still a pretty fast card, to be fair, just missing some of the extra prettification of the 9xx series), but it’s still breathtaking in parts.
And that’s fair enough too. 🙂
Same thing happened to me with Fallout 4… Thought I had a decent price, used a code, BAM! charged in USD and ending up paying more than Australian retail… Opened a support ticket and they basically said “We’ve already issued a key, too bad”
(which I get, they probably don’t have any means to see if the key has been activated or redeemed, but still, it’s a shitty thing to do.)
Oooo Witcher 3; fair warning expect to lose a lot of time to that game.
Having sunk ~10 years into Dota, I can’t see this being that bad.
Dota is one of those games you play for a bit; rage quit and do it again tomorrow. Witcher is one of those games where you forget to wake up for work in the morning because you stayed up all night playing.
tl;dr – Dota is like a job; the Witcher is like the start of a steamy relationship.
Oh my girlfriend is going to love this…
Damn, they cancelled Fable Legends. It was actually a pretty fun game. =( Hopefully they at least reuse the assets for a proper Fable 4. It was pretty far in development too. I guess the beta made them realise how much time and money go into maintenance.
Considering Microsoft’s supposedly shutting down Lionhead, I’m not overly optimistic. :/
Meh to be fair Lionhead since the first trifecta of games has always just churned out copies of the original games. Fable, Black & White and The Movies were the best they ever did which they never topped since then.
Fable 2 > Fable >>>>>>>>>>>>> Fable 3
Okay, Fable 3 wasn’t THAT bad. I enjoyed the first half of it.
The first 2/3rds of Fable 3 were a fun, similar romp to the last two games (though I think I liked the magic system less? It’s been a while so I can’t exactly remember).
Then its ending was bad, and it should feel bad. I sort of appreciate what they tried to do, with like “the villain dude was being a villain for the good of the country” and stuff, but it fell flat as hell, and because I didn’t have a chance to transfer my ludicrous personal funds at the last minute into defending the world, I ended up wiping out like 80% of the game’s population. >.>
Yup, the part where you are made King was the worst bit.
Also, the levelling system was a bit crap.
Hmmm for me Fable was innovative and Fable 2 was derivative. While it was the more polished game it just rehashed much of what the first game did. For me the first game was so amazing because of the constant sense of discovery it kept throwing your away like the first time you spoke to one of those talking gates.
First game was a trial, second game was the finished product.
God damn this is this the most retarded… I’m trying to follow this tutorial, it wants me to build the project with CMake or something. Their default is to use Visual Studio for that. I don’t have that on here, and they mention using Code Blocks for the Linux part of the tutorial, so I figured hey why not try one of the other things instead. But couldn’t get the stupid thing to work for Code Blocks nor Eclipse, it dies with an error every time and no amount of googling seems to be able to get me around that. Then last night at home I decided to try and build it with Visual Studio. Had a few errors, but eventually got it to work. Huzzah! Except… I can’t get VS to install on here at all. There’s the probably dodgy 2010 version I got from college, which tells me I need to be administratorer to use it. But then getting one of the newer free ones from MS, and the installers all crash on startup. And can’t seem to google my way around that either.
Everything is awful.
HOLY FUCK I THINK I DID IT??
Then errors when trying to run, in stuff I don’t understand 🙁
Hi Guys,
I am new here. Really excited about division. Anyone playing on xbox?
Feel free to add me, my tag is Brav3one.
Welcome to Tay. I think most people are playing the division on PC
Umm @kermitron I think knows who the Division peeps are; also I recall him playing on Xbone for Destiny so might be doing the same for division?
I am on Xbone (mostly) but sadly haven’t picked up the Division and probably won’t in the immediate future. Sort of waiting to hear back on how much actual content it has after burning myself out on Destiny for a year because if I play it’ll probably just be for the story rather than replaying random events and going into the Dark Zone.
I’ve grabbed it, though on PC.
I was playing with Rize, Cakesmith and I believe Blaghman in the beta, but also on PC.
Fuck…
Just woke up after waking up at 3am this morning because of the heat… 🙁
new humble bundle seems pretty ok.
Oceanhorn! pretty cool game, heavily influenced by Wind Waker.
2x Shadowrun games!
Magika 2!
https://www.humblebundle.com/jumbo-bundle-6
Humble seem to be putting out bundles specifically for me recently, it is great
The pinball FX bundle was basically a majority of the tables I didn’t own.
Then this one which is 3 games for my wishlist and another couple I was interested in
Although speaking of pinball is anybody interested in a couple of tables I already have Civil war or the balance of the force pack.
I’d be interested 🙂
Email or did you just want me to drop the codes here?
Oceanhorn is pretty much Wind Waker’s themes and settings mashed up with Link Between World’s engine. It’s not the greatest game but it’s pretty solid from one end to the other and a lot of fun. I hope at some stage they make a sequel for consoles. Definitely worth checking out if you like Zelda.
really not bad for a mobile / tablet port.
big fan of the 3D LoZ’s & since I’m mainly a PC gamer, I was hyped when this came out.
totally recommend grabbing it as part of this bundle. definitely worth the $6 it’ll cost you.
Highly recommend Shadowrun: Dragonfall for those that haven’t played it. It’s one of the greatest RPGs I’ve ever played.
loved Shadowrun Returns, & from all accounts, Dragonfall is so much better. been meaning to play through it & i’m damn keen to.
I’ve got the base Grey Goo (without the expansion) – the first two campaigns are good fun (the beta and human campaigns), but the third one (Goo) is absolutely awful. No fun, completely frustrating – just the worst.
That being said, at some point I do plan on going back and struggling my way through, because I’m one of those people that really wants to know how the story plays out.
So in case people haven’t seen it… Henry Rollins is doing a spoken word tour in September, and he’s hitting pretty much everywhere (Alice Springs is getting a show. ALICE. SPRINGS.) so if you’re interested there’s a pretty good chance you’ll be able to see him. Tour details here: http://www.feelpresents.com/fp_tour/henry-rollins-2/
Tickets on sale Friday.
If you’ve seen him before, you know how amazing he is. If you’ve never seen him before, do yourself a favour and trust me on this one. He’s one of the most intelligent, funny, articulate, passionate, and all-around-amazing human beings on the planet. His spoken word rants are a thing of beauty to behold. Get tickets. See him.
I’m considering going to both Brisbane shows because I love him that much. Once to laugh, once to absorb the material and really think about it. So any Brisbanites thinking about going, hope to see you there.
For those playing at home and wondering why the name Henry Rollins is vaguely familiar, he was the voice of Zaheer.
From what I’ve heard, Beeeeee-ob is not exaggerating. Dude is rad.
He was also lead singer of Black Flag, was on Sons of Anarchy, a bunch of documentaries, etc etc etc.
If you’ve come this far, maybe you’ll be willing to go a little more: Here’s a playlist of his “Shock and Awe” tour. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLcNdY1kcgW683neJX5X9dsD8e6feqgFvc
Deals with (just listened to all 90mins…) George W, hell for masturbaters, criteria for dating, “A Surreal Conversation in LA”, telemarketers, attending a movie premier, meeting Ike Turner, performing for a USO tour in Afghanistan, meeting and recording with William Shatner.
Johnny Mnemonic
Don’t forget the best sequel to Wrong Turn: Wrong Turn 2: Dead End.
If a few Brisbane peeps are going I would be willing to go.
Only problem is you have to live with your eyes open after listening to him.
Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
“Problem” 😛
He’s doing Newcastle and Woolongong, but not Sydney?
DOUBLE-YOU-TEE-EFF?
Fear not! Sydney is coming, the venue is still being finalised. Saw on another site that this was the case.
@crazyguy1990 @chuloopa anyone else that’s interested. Gametraders highpoint are closing their doors on April 10th. If there’s anything you’re after, I suggest you grab it now
That’s really sad – they’re a good team.
Unfortunately i stopped going there as most of the stuff i wanted i could get from my FLGS which is much closer.
How did you hear about that? Looks like business as usual on their FB page.
Are they havin ga clearance sale or is everything still regular prices?
The owner contacted me. Some stuff will be on sale, some will stay normal prices.
I’m really sad to see it go as it was my go to gaming shop that allowed me to pre-order and then layby.
Yeah, as I said, it’s really sad. These guys have such a great shop. Andshops like them are getting rarer and rarer.
We actually ended up chatting to the owner and one of the employees for an hour. I’m going to miss our walking dead discussions too.
Ah. I might have to go there this weekend and see if they still have that big Hylian Shield.
They did when I was there.
If it does get sold, That’s hot collectables also sells it
@popdart5 @tech_knight @blaghman Numenera! tonight 8pm SA time!
I’ll be there!
So after work tomorrow night, I go up to my parent’s place to look after three doggies & two kitties all weekend while the rest of my family is down in the middle of nowhere for my cousin’s wedding.
Should be pretty freaking sweet.
hanging out with pets is amazing.
Just gotta watch a uni lecture & do a bit of reading while im up there, but other than that, it’s just gonna be CTFO time.
anyway. was looking through my steam profile for games that I should have installed on my laptop. it’s a Surface 2, so it’s nothing very powerful, so I’m going a bit retro; Baulder’s Gate, Fallout 1&2, Underrail etc. Shadowrun Returns works on it pretty well, so I’ll probably go for Dragonfall or Hong Kong as well.
tl;dr long weekend featuring puppies, kitties & old-school RPGs 😀
As a person who gets dragged to weddings all the time I have to say that I’m very jealous.
Best weekend? Best weekend!
SR Dragonfall is great.
So is Hong Kong.
Guh!
Hellooo
I am stuck here at work reading about The Division and being unable to play it until Friday.
Sucks.
Life is ok though, Sam and I are good, except her mother has been diagnosed with Cancer (two technically as it spread to the bone before they knew she even had one, primary still unknown)
So now we are living there with Sam working from home.
Shoutout to @redartifice for keeping the Last Song Played Game alive
Mine was Alpha Omega by Shiv-R, fantastic Aussie industrial band
Also Shoutout to everyones favorite hermit @dc
Hermit? You must have him mistaken with some other guy. @dc is Dan. Or DC.
Played a few hours of The Division last night (PS4).
Enjoying, but my main PS4 group were mostly playing Destiny (despite getting Division…) so did a couple of missions with matchmade randoms.
Can’t wait until I’m beef enough to start heading into the Dark Zone. Was easily the best part of the beta.
My bank account was 54c short when TPG tried to take my phone bill. I corrected it ASAP but they apparently didn’t want my money. For the last few hours, my phone has had network but not network connectivity. No calls, texts or interwebs.
After fucking around on the TPG account website, putting in my personal and bank details (same as they were before) and asking it to take the payment again, it’s now saying I don’t have any outstanding invoices.
Now to see if I’ll get my phone back online.
It took a week to realise that the first attempt at repaying didn’t go through. No notice of a failed attempt. None of that. It just didn’t happen.
Fun.
Mine just overdraws the account when that happens and I get charged a bundle by the bank.
Not sure which is worse?
I think that overdraw fee should be re-imbursed if you have above a certain balance in other accounts with the same bank?
Possibly… but I have $0 in other accounts with that bank.
It’s all good though, at the time I would have rather paid the $10 overdrawn fee or whatever it was than go through the hassle that Trjn is facing.
So, work for me is great, boss keeps saying she thinks i’m a hard worker & do the task at hand likewise do three of my other coworkers.
Next bit is quite ranty so spoilerised.
Then there’s the other one who like me is casual (the other 3 I work with are part time) he’s done nothing positive since we have gotten our new boss who has been nothing but awesome to us, the likes of not doing his job, making others pick up after him the day after he works, most recently he was caught standing around staring at the stores computer doing nothing by the manager of Woolworths & my boss decided to review the secuarity footage of the night he worked when this occured, he stood there for TWENTY minutes doing fucking nothing when there was plenty to be done in the store, i’d be all “eh cut him some slack” if this was his first time, but nope he does this often, it’s so unfair on the rest of us. But oh well, some big changes are coming, he won’t like them, I do know they play in my favour though. Also our store needs maybe 3 or 3 staff, the boss was telling me Ideally for the store she wants herself, a full time person, a casual (like myself with at least 3 shifts a week) and another casual someone who is able to work when needed. Which I think would be perfect for us, hell i’d even ask for full time i’d happily take it, would give me some certainty with my job!
Also I had to laugh when the boss was telling me the other casual kept complaining to her that he “should” be on a contract by now, well it ain’t happening buddy cause area manager says HELL NO, given the amount of complaints you have gotten. Hell people come in often & then exclaim “oh thank god that one with no personality isn’t here” I find it very disheartening that people also AVOID our store on certain days they know he is here, it’s really been hurting our sales especially on Saturdays when he works. :/
Is it 3? I bet it’s 3.
3 is the magic number
3 is the loneliest number that will ever be…..
Yep haha. I meant 3 or 4 😛
On Friday….
Finally! WWE 2K16… has come back… to PC!
AHHH! Goodbye internet I will be be living under a rock until I finish Zero Escape: VLR, I swear there is a spoiler around every corner coming to punch me right in the gut. Hype for the final game is not a good thing if you haven’t finished the second one
Before you go off to become a cave troll: I’ve got the first two games, is it to my benefit to play the first before the second? I’ve been viewing them as separate experiences but I’m starting to get the suspicion that they might actually be connected.
Definitely – I haven’t finished and can’t really say if there’s a link between the two stories just yet. If not for the fact that they aren’t even connected, do it just because the first has an amazing plot (if its your thing). Its the ONLY game/book/movie/anything which made me choose to forego sleeping at all just because of how great the plot was
Thursday morning!
Morning everyone?
Last Song Played Game Time? I was listening to Dude Soup episode 60 on my bus trip but musically before that was Reeperbahn by Digitalism
How is everyone?
Slipknot: Liberate
Bored as hell. Not enough work this month and when my coworker tried to bring it up he got accused of not doing his job properly :/
Then I get home and I’ve got no games I feel like playing, books to read or shows to watch.
What kind of games/books/shows do you like?
Good ones?
I don’t really watch TV, mostly watch anime and I’m up to speed with this season.
Books; Sci-fi and fantasy generally. I’m a bit stumped about what to do about books honestly. I don’t want to buy physical books anymore since I only ever read them once but I struggle to justify paying just as much for ebooks. Could try the library ebook thing @redartifice mentioned but it won’t work on my kindle and I don’t have a tablet.
Games; a wide spectrum. Diablo 3 was fitting the bill – easy to pick up and play with good in the moment fun but also a long term challenge to work towards.
Let’s see… I guess any of the games with a competitive scene would fit the bill then?
Are you into MOBAs? I’m probably the worst person to ask since I’ve only played the most complicated one, but from what I understand HotS is easy to get into, fairly forgiving to newcomers, but still offers alot of depth. LOL is a bit more complicated, but not as complicated as DOTA, which is brutally unforgiving to newcomers and insanely complicated to master.
Where do you live, btw? I lived very close to a good library in one of my previous apartments, so that pretty much filled my need for books without having to pay for them. Alternatively if you’re in Sydney I’d be happy to loan you a bunch of sci-fi and/or fantasy books.
I did play LoL for a while back in the day with taybies. Was fun, if only in a group of friends, but stopped once it got to the “git gud or go home” level of play.
Not down with solo queue though.
Live in Adelaide. I think there is a library in the general area but it’s a clusterfuck to get to.
Probably good suggestions though: library and open ended competitive game. Shall investigate options.
There is one option if you’re keen; I’ve been looking to get back into HotS and climb that ranked ladder to the top. I imagine we should do alright with an average of 1-3 games each day?
How is the state of that game atm? I recall it having a host of technical issues as well as competitive types abandoning it.
Twitch! Crunchyroll! There really aren’t too many new games to sink into though; XCOM 2?
Xcom never really grabbed me that much tbh.
And I wish I had quality enough internet to do streaming.
Yeah what @cffndncr said.
Sucks to hear not enough work. If you have a kindle you could look at suggested authors?
I just started watching Mr Robot (I am late to most parties) and enjoyed episode one immensely.
Favorite youtuber you could binge on?
I’ve not got into YouTube as a TV alternative kinda thing. Doesn’t help my net speeds are not always reliable.
Oh wait, that’s why I don’t pvp much anymore.
Ugh.
That sucks!
Podcasts?
Probably not at home but might good for boring jobs at work.
Any suggestions?
Dude Soup (the guys from Funhaus) Lore by Aaron Mahnke, The Podquisition (jim Sterling), Welcome to Night Vale, Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History, Sunday Night Safran
Foreigner – Hot Blooded
Also, it’s going between hot as balls and pouring rain down here. 🙁
Gross, I am happily ensconced in the office, I do not dare brave the outside world until quitting time.
Of Petrichor Weaves Black Noise by Ne Obliviscaris
On another note, why do prog bands have such weird song names?
I don’t know, but great song and band
Yeah, discovering them was a very happy accident. I lived across the street from one of the metal venues in Sydney, saw there was a show on one night and I was bored so I popped down, discovered these guys… and they have been one of my favourite bands since.
Brilliant band. Pity they’re struggling to keep going. Their new fund raising project is interesting though.
I was trying to talk my girlfriend into going halves in the top-tier one (I really like them!) but couldn’t convince her.. I think we’re going to back the $75 one though.
Money well spent for a band that well deserves it. So tempted for the top tier one myself but I’m cheap.
I really just wanted it for the backstage access… but my girlfriend pointed out that having dinner with the band would be awkward as fuck.
Stella by Starlight- Miles Davis
Just had to delay a program at work, so having to ring a bunch of people today to let them know. fuuuuuun
I’m just a bit bored at the moment.
There is a looming restructure here, so it’s kind of like “ehh” now days
Disturbed – The Light
Love me some Disturbed
My Walden – Nightwish. Half-captures my feelings on this morning – “I do not wish to evade the world, but I will forever build my own.” Just want to curl back onto bed and sleep…
Enigma – Gravity of Love (Scourge Club Mix)
The last song that was playing in my head was Oh What A Night. On the train this morning, there was a lady who was sitting there listening to her music with her hand on her chest, annoyingly slapping along to the beat. The rhythm she was tapping out was like the main rhythm from Oh What A Night, except it seemed to be kind of out of time. And especially out of time with how she was nodding her head along to the music.
All in all one very annoying train trip.
Omnium Gatherum – The Great Liberation
Elton John – Sacrifice. I only have like 8 albums on my iPhone and I’m too lazy to update it so I’ve been listening to Elton John’s greatest hits all week. Not that I’m complaining. Before that I was listening to David Bowie non stop. Before that, Sia.
hahahaha I actually have an amusing one
Little Elephant – Elizabeth Mitchell
Apparently I left my spotify logged in at home. So I was at work and listening to a metal play list but I had paused it and put my headphones down. So apparently Mrs Tigs started to play something for Tiglet using my account. So I hear something coming from my headphones so I put them on and little elephant is playing. I open spotify and it is still on my metal playlist
It was slightly confusing.
Played Division for few hours on xbox yesterday. Loved it. It is fun with people. Matchmakings are good . Still figuring out many things, so can’t say how long it will hold my attention. Gamertag brav3one, if you want to tag along.
Xbox? I might be around at the weekend
Yup, xbox tag is brav3one. Feel free to add me. Cheers
Mine’s InsanityAwaits and I won’t be able to play till Friday night but make sure not to reject it haha
No worries, will add you.
Sorry for all the kerfuffle on the weekend.
Still not sure why you couldn’t hear my friend.
Weekends are currently my only available play time so apologies if we don’t get to group up
Dear today,
Fuck you.
Sincerly,
Loops
xo
In other news – how is everyone today?! 🙂
Well I was going along fine until you decided to fuck the day! Gosh loops think about the rest of us would ya?!
I didn’t fuck it, i just suggested it get fucked.
This day, man…. haha
Chin up loops; there’s always tomorrow!
*Hugs* I had that yesterday and the day before
Dear Loops,
*rawr*
Sincerely,
Today
xo
Heh. Just had some division-wide meeting thingo, with a bunch of groups presenting stuff on what they were doing. My friend and another guy were up doing a thing on older gamers, and asked “does anyone know what the average age of gamers in Australia is? Go on, yell it out”. So I gave it a moment, then yelled out 34. “…who said that??”
Come on surely everyone knows that by now, right? 😛
@jocon New post! I haven’t played HotS in a few months (tore a ligament in my wrist a few months back) and as such haven’t been able to play too many dexterity intensive games for lengthy periods. I was playing Black Ops in a cast =P
Last I played though the meta was getting stale with a few heroes dominating above all others; that said I recall @popdart5 getting to the top of the ladder so I imagine it’s very viable with regular play.
That was a few months ago so things have probably changed quite a bit in terms of the HotS ranked experience. I mostly stopped playing because Blizzard absolutely sucked at maintaining any form of balance when they introduce new heroes and things were getting pretty stale. Standard quick match play also has some massive matchmaking issues but ranked play meta was pretty static when I played.
Oh damn, hope you’re recovering well.
Yeah sure, I’ll give it a crack. Hopefully my lag won’t be too bad.
Unless you wanted to try lol or *shudder* Dota.
I just hate last hitting creeps; its so annoying. HotS is just simpler and shorter, lets try a few matches on sat? I’ll drop you a text or you do the same when you’re free
Sure. I imagine I’ll be free whenever, haven’t got around to organising anything.
So, for a while I have been struggling with food issues. I keep worrying about what is healthy and what isn’t. When I think about getting fat from eating unhealthy food, I start to panic and actually woke up having a panic attack.
I used beyond blue’s online counselling service to help me out and then last night, I remembered that I need to acknowledge the thought and then make fun of it
Anxious page get =/
I think the biggest problem is buying into what’s healthy and whats not these days.
People have been eating unhealthy stuff for the longest time – but only somewhat recently weight has REALLY become an issue, due to most people holding office jobs and being generally inactive.
I don’t believe food is the real enemy – it’s not doing anything to better your health.
People, in general, just need to be more active.
I’m not saying it’s not bad to stuff your face with junk food, i’m just saying it’s still ok to eat things that are unhealthy now and then, even a couple of times a day, as long as your at least TRYING to balance it out with some nice fresh meals and some exercise.
Try not to let it get to you 🙂
I’m actually pretty active. I walk a lap of the park twice a day and push Mum around highpoint in the wheelchair. I’ve just gotten to a point where i think crumb is unhealthy. It’s just getting to a point where I may starve myself.
Well then you’ve got nothing to worry about, theoretically.
It definitely sounds like you may be developing an eating disorder, though, so could be good to speak to an actual specialist if you can
Already booked an appointment for Wednesday next week. =D
There is definitely a case mounting against sugar, especially of the hidden variety in processed foods – usually the ones labelled “low fat” – some yoghurts have more sugar than custard or chocolate pudding!
I am very grateful that my little guy likes getting cucumber in his lunchbox. Makes my job easier.
We have discover the baby cucumbers which are working really well. We used to chop up big ones but have found the baby ones are so much more convenient
What if I add dip…? Suddenly unhealthy?
Hummus is really healthy – so they could work
If that doesn’t do it for you, make your own garlic sauce with some greek style yoghurt, garlic and (ironically) cucumber
I don’t know if I like hummus. I do like the black swan light roasted capsicum dip
Make your own so you know what’s in it? Roasted capsicums (jarred or you can roast them yourself), olive oil, cream cheese or unflavoured & unsweetened greek yoghurt and a clove of garlic. Throw some nuts in (cashew is really good) and food process / blend it all up and suddenly there’s dip.
Totally agree with @negativezero – make your own! Have you got a hooded BBQ? They’re a great way of roasting/charring things like capsicum. I really like hummus, and I don’t think I’ve bought ready made in a while – chickpeas, sesame oil, olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper, sometimes some paprika and/or chilli into a blender and it’s done; hummus with falafels, so you can have chickpeas with your chickpeas.
Also, pesto, IIRC: 8 parts greens : 2 parts nuts : 1 part oil? I made a pretty delicious, if not particularly healthy, one a while ago that was basil, rocket, honey salted cashews and EVOO.
Tzatziki!!!
Grate cucumber (lebanese or continental, does not matter) until you have about 2 tablespoons.
Finely chop a few mint leaves. In they go. half a teaspoon of lemon juice, 1/4 to 1/2 a teaspoon of chopped garlic (more to taste if you like it).
then add greek yoghurt and stir until it’s the right consistency. About 1-2 tablespoons is about right. If you like more yoghurt, strain the cucumber a bit to get some of the liquid out or it’ll can get a bit too runny (unless you like it that way, it’s your tzatziki… 🙂 )
And… DONE.
Leave out the lemon and garlic, double the mint and add a splash of milk to make raita instead… 😀
Dip actually isn’t too bad, but of course it depends on the dip.
Also depends on what you would have if you didn’t have dip. Get a nice vegetable based dip (and you can claim it as one of your veggies) and you are actually getting some decent nutrients.
Also consider what you would have if you didn’t have the dip and pick the lesser evil.
Although from what you are saying you are actually worrying more about potential issues rather than actual issues you are experiencing. if you are worried about your iced mocha then use a low fat milk, but really it won’t do you any harm.
There isn’t too much that is inherently unhealthy, as with anything too much of it is bad. There was research showing that the guilt and stress people experience from going out and having a coffee and cake was far worse for them the the cake itself.
So number on thing I would say is stop worrying about your weight so much. And for the love of all gods stop worrying about the fact that something might make you fat when your weight isn’t changing.
I just keep an eye on calories (my wife helps a lot with that) and make sure my day is planned out so that my low daily target gets consumed sensibly and I don’t wind up still being hungry or binge. It’s not working fast, but it’s working.
I should probably worry about sugar vs. fat and various nutrient macros but I feel like that stuff will drive you nuts. For now, for weight loss, calories in vs. calories out. I’ll worry about the rest later and try and avoid scurvy in the meantime.
I don’t obsess either, but I do find that if I let too many carbs (either starch or sugar) into my 1300cal, I’m hungry and cranky and inevitably can’t sustain it. But if it’s lots of vegies, a bit of protein and just a few sensible carbs which are really grainy, then it’s so much easier to eat less and feel full. Like I said above, it’s really hard to overdo your calories eating broccoli (which, btw is infinitely better than kale)
Kale is hipster parsley and I’ll have no part of it.
My Oma, being an old Dutch lady, is very confused about the sudden popularity of a particular variety of cabbage – “It’s pig food, not superfood! Idiots!”
Her father was a butcher so a lot of things, in her mind, are pig food.
…including pigs, probably… 🙂
Dutch Oma high five!

I was lucky to get one of those when I got married.
Dr Karl has good advice. Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.
Seriously though, it’s ok to worry a bit about your health and diet – it’s HARD striking a balance and when you toss in things like a tight budget (no gym memberships or beef fillet salads), or other issues that make it difficult to get out and about, it’s even harder (like being stuck at home looking after someone).
BUT there are lots of options that are FREE and can really make a difference.
MyFitnessPal – is an online food diary that really helps to track your calorie count. Just noting everything you eat and drink gives you a feeling of control, and you work out very quickly things that you can change. Cutting back on sugar and adding more vegies is a good way to start.
Free exercise – walking is one, of course, and if you can find stairs, hills or sand along the way, it’s even better. See if there’s a parkrun.com.au near you – it’s a free 5km timed fun run held every saturday morning. All you need is your shoes and your barcode. It’s a fantastic way to meet new people in your area too (yes, yes, I say it all the time, but I love Curl Curl parkrun, even though I am a terrible runner). Some councils run free exercise classes, if you have a local indoor pool you can swim all year round. Exercising is good for mood, strength and helps you sleep better. But if you want to lose weight, you have to really watch what you eat, because you have to exercise all day if you want to eat a whole pizza.
Healthy cookbooks – a new cookbook can be an inspiration to try healthy new ideas. Go for a stroll in the book section of your local vinnies, or check out your local public library. Taste.com.au also has entire collections of recipes and the advanced search option is brilliant. Go for recipes that are rated 5 stars.
The important thing is to be kind to yourself, and do things because they make you feel good.
I think it’s more of a food intake issue as opposed to no exercise as I take my dog to the park twice daily.
Food is a lot harder. I’m in the habit of having an iced Mocha daily. I have muesli for breakfast and I’ve stopped eating chocolate and chips as snacks, instead having a muesli bar.
Mum cooks dinner and I normally eat small meals anyway. I think the issue is an increase in junk food since having the car, although I try to go for healthier options. For example, I may get a tonkatsu Bento to share with mum. One prawn dumpling, half the tonkatsu with half rice and half a wafu salad. Tiny portions really.
That’s where a food diary helps. You can look things up and make the best choice available. You get better at knowing what serving sizes look like. Steamed rice, for example, isn’t inherently unhealthy, but it’s very very easy to eat too much of it. Very hard to overeat a broccoli salad 🙂
Dr Karl is great – that’s his standard response on twitter to everyone asking “Is [x diet] any good?”, or “is it unhealthy to eat an entire water buffalo in one sitting”.
There’s a lot of depth behind that answer though – if you can fill your lunch and dinner up with “mostly plants”, you’ll tend to be a lot healthier – a small serve of meat, a small serve of something starchy (if you want), but mostly vegetables – you can have a reasonably large serving if what you’re eating is mostly salad.
As for my experience, and it’s easy for me as a man in his mid twenties with no dependents – I lost around 20kg in the first year out of high school, which has served me reasonably well through my adulthood because it taught me that I could again, if I wanted to. I’ve lost 5kg in the last 5 weeks by riding to work 5 days a week instead of 3, cutting out sweets (easy, since I don’t have much of a sweet tooth) and cutting out alcohol for 6 days a week (which has probably been the biggest contributor) – I’ve not altered what I eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner, except that I’m avoiding filling my plate at dinner with rice, pasta or potatoes. I could write a book, but those telling people to “eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants” don’t sell too well.
So, I guess, +1 on @cookingmama ‘s post for free exercise – I’m essentially lazy and I hate forcing myself to get up early and go for a run and I certainly don’t feel like it at the end of a workday; not only that, but I’m also a cheapskate, I’ve got a fundamental issue with paying for a gym membership. So I play sport, because it doesn’t even feel like exercise, and I worked exercise into my daily commute, because it is a reasonably easy habit to get into. Whether or not I can transition that into running in the mornings over winter (since it’s too dangerous riding in the dark) remains to be seen…
Running in winter is easier if you have like-minded folks to share coffee with after 🙂 I mostly parkrun for the coffee after!
Rather than my current plan of running in the near-dark/dark, coming home, having a shower and going to work? I can tell people from experience that that sucks.
I ride to work, rain or shine. I have a “winter bike” and a “summer bike” in that the funky carbon road bike gets used more when the days are long and the weather good, and I might feel like taking “the long way home” via Yarra Boulevard or one of the creek trails. The “winter bike” has mudguards, a rack, disc brakes and a dynamo hub for always-on lights.
So I get at least an hour of exercise 5 days a week whatever else is going on in my crazy life. And as well as the physical benefits, it’s how I manage my mental health too.
I’d like to keep riding through winter but, as I’ve whinged about before, part of my ride is along an 80km/h rode with about 30cm of shoulder – pretty low density traffic is the only thing that prevents that from being prohibitively dangerous; that section is also unlit, so riding 3 months of the year is out of the question.
What road’s that, if you don’t mind revealing localities?
And that wouldn’t stop me, but then I ride everywhere I’m legally allowed to. The risks are pretty small, and cycling is generally viewed in Aus as waaaay more dangerous than it actually is. Sure there’s always a chance of being rear ended by an idiot, but lack of exercise is more dangerous.
And good lights on unlit roads trump streetlights. My B&M dynamos on both the “winter bike” and on the tricycle are visible hundreds of metres away. 🙂

It’s not a lack of visibility that concerns me (well, not primarily at least), but the simple fact that I have drivers passing me within 1m, let alone 1.5m, in broad daylight – and I can see debris with plenty of time to avoid it. Combine peoples’ poor driving in night time conditions, with my inability to see debris until much later, on that stretch of road is just nope.
Fair enough, I see why you’d avoid it.
I wouldn’t, but I freely admit I’m a particularly confident rider. Learning to ride in a “vehicular cycling” tradition on the roads of London and the narrow home counties B-roads is probably part of that. That and the plethora of lights and reflective patches I’m carrying (and a rear camera…)…
I think you have done the right thing by admitting you needed help and seeking it out. Well done, you’re on right path.
In terms of diet, I try to be conscious of what I’m eating, but only to a certain degree. Low-fat options tend to have increased sugar to offset the removal fat content (because no fat takes like shit without sugar), so I don’t eat anything marked as low-fat.
The only nutritional thing I check at supermarkets is the sugar content on the per 100ml (or the per serve if it’s a small serving, like balsamic vinegar for eg).
If you feel guilty about not eating enough vegies (that’s me), replace your meat content with cut up vegies 2-3 nights a week. eg: I made spag bol earlier in the week and instead of mince, I used chick peas, celery, zucchini, carrots and capsicum (with beef stock); it was possibly better than the mince one!
The other thing is talk to someone (nice) about exercise. Exercise has a massive effect on mental wellbeing. If you think you should be getting more, talk about with someone.
I probably don’t eat enough veggies. I mean, I think I generally get between 2-4 serves a day if we have veggies for dinner.
So maybe that’s somewhere you can start – add a fruit or vegetable component to every meal you eat.
Replyfail
There’s dry fruit in my muesli and I try to get no added sugar yogurt with fruit when I can.
I spoke to mum about the vegetables but she likes potatoes, so they’re often on the plate, so I don’t really eat them.
I’ve noticed two big misconceptions about vegetables. 1) ‘what do I do with them?’, and 2) ‘they are more time consuming than using meat’. If that’s partly why they’re not in your diet, this is a method (and a mindset kinda) I use now:
1) Roasting or frying?
Decide, then get pan or bake tray (and turn on oven)
2) Get your biggest:
– Colander
– chopping board
– knife
3) Put FOUR different vegies in the colander, then rinse sink, then shake the colander to remove water
4) chop everything into 1-3cm pieces (pick a size and remain consistent throughout)
5) Once chopped, put in oven or on stove.
10-15 minutes cooking time.
Balsamic and oil is great for oven.
Tomato paste, minced garlic and oil is great for pan.
If you’re all meat-eaters this is the simplest way to always have vegies as a side to your meal and the prep will be 5-10 minutes once you do it for two weeks.
I can’t eat coriander. Sorry ^^;;
Wait people actually say that?
I guess becasue I eat mostly chicken I need to chop it up mostly anyway so that harder than veggies. I guess because we do lots of stirfrys it is just natural to be preping veggies as I prep the meat.
@scree it is a colander, which is the strainer you use for pasta
Lol! I am a derp
Weight is something I constantly worry about too mate. I’ve lost 30kg’s twice in my life and due to an injured ankle that is keeping me from running, I’m worried that I’m putting on a bit extra as I have a slow metabolism (even though I do the 6 small meals a day thing to try and keep it going) but I find if you do exercise (daily if possible) by going to the gym, going for 30 minute walks, etc then it doesn’t become that big of a problem.
Also, if you mainly stick to what’s healthy in terms of the food pyramid then you’re pretty safe, just stick to smaller plate sizes and try to avoid takeway where possible.
It’s OK to eat junkfood stuff on occasion but I usually stick to only once a week (less if I can avoid it).
Other then that, good on you for using Beyond Blue for your panic attack. The more people who use services that need it like you, the better!
Whenever I hear the food pyramid I’m reminded of this:
http://weknowmemes.com/2013/11/the-happiness-paper-hat/
Man, I hate food in a way. It’s so much effort if you want to be healthily and all that.
I’ve actually started changing up my diet recently in a attempt to drop a few.
Mostly just cutting out a bunch of sugar, less snacks, breadless lunch.
Will be slower than some crash health diet but much more sustainable.
Sugar I think is the biggest issue. I knew a guy who lost like 30kg mostly by just cutting out sugar from his diet.
So even if you just avoid sugar and don’t worry about anything else you’re probably doing alright.
A healthy routine is 60% exercise 40% diet. Now when I say diet I don’t mean the misappropriated word that means starve yourself; in fact depending on you’re routine you might require to have 6 full meals a day. Health has nothing to do with putting on or losing weight; it has everything to do with eating properly which means you actually have to eat. If you feel you’re putting on a few kilos don’t drastically change your eating habits (which might have negative repercussions of their own) but rather tone up your exercise. Once again not too an extreme; if you normally do 2 laps around the block; do three instead. Your body is a living dynamic organism and when you do anything extreme to its fuel or environment you damage it more than help it.
As long as you’re eating meat; veggies and carbs in decent portions you’re good. Eating too much is easily solved by a bit of exercise but eating too little is a mental battle that’s a lot harder to win.
Edit: if you ever want to talk to me about health/gym hit me up; I’m a bit of a gym junkie and I’ve accrued bounds of knowledge of health over the years thanks to this interest.
Ehh, I’d say diet is more important than exercise.
I mean it comes down to using more calories than you consume right? As someone put it: a 20 Min run consumes about 200cal. A regular coke is about 260cal. Which is easier: a half hour run or drinking water instead?
Yes but once you have muscle your body starts burning calories faster even if you’re just sitting down. Also calories is a very poor measure for health because it reduces a healthy diet to a effectively fuel without taking into consideration any of the other components based on a person’s daily routine.
To use your example a 20minute run is burning carbs and lipids to provide your body with fuel but it’s also damaging muscle which needs to regrow. So yeah you might be using up 200 cal and you could refill that with 200 cals worth of coke. But you might actually need a larger amount of calories to subsidize the use of carbs/lipids (since these two ingredients are usually found in foods that have a lot of calories) and a larger protein intake to help your body recover to its original state before you had a run. If you don’t you’re actually starving your body and it starts to adapt to the starvation by storing away more fat for every calorie you intake.
Diet is important but it can’t do much without a proper active routine; the inverse is also true.
And this kinda thing niceley dovetails into scree’s stress over the whole overly complicated issue.
Not all of us want to be an amateur personal trainer and dietitian. We just want to not be overweight.
The info doesn’t just apply to people who gym 5 days a week; if you go for a routine jog or just a brisk walk; or perhaps you feel you’ve added a few kilos and want to make the odd change here or there to lose it. It basically comes back to the fact you get multiplied returns when you mix exercise and diet, less effort more gains.
Its also meant to dispel that long held belief that eating less means you lose weight. Eating right means you lose weight but it still involves eating a proper amount; you lose the weight faster if you throw in a run or swim or a few laps on a bike. The key point if any to take away is being healthy doesn’t need to be a chore; it can actually be accomplished for minimal effort. And the best part about this info is that it scales to the level of fitness you want to achieve.
tl;dr don’t obsess over every little thing you eat, keep a cap on your sugars and junk food, eat your veggies and stay active and you’ll be healthy.
That’s the annoying thing though – my job is the most active I’ve ever had + I take the dog for a walk/jog pretty much everyday + I’m eating probably healthier than I ever have. And the result is me putting on weight.
Not much in the grand scheme if things but I’d really like it to not continue.
Bah, I’ll find a balance somewhere. Or I won’t.
There is one other factor I forgot to mention being age =P I’ve had to increase what I do to maintain what I used to have as each year passes. What are you trying to achieve with your health? Is it just a weight issue bothering you at the moment? Or are you looking to maintain cardio or strength?
Are you putting on weight as fat or muscle?
Oh yeah, change in metabolism is definitely the culprit.
Mostly just get back to and maintain my ideal weight range. I don’t care about being an athlete or looking cut, just want to drop back a belt notch 😀
Hopefully with my latest diet changes and the weather cooling again (been too hot to run many days the last few months) it’ll sort out.
You sound like a runner so this is the best tip I have for quick weight loss – Go for a run first thing in the morning after a cup of coffee (empty stomach). You’ll want to do quick sprints instead of one consistent jog; 20 minutes of this everyday should cover it.
Coffee boosts your metabolism; running on an empty stomach forces your cells to breakdown your fatty tissue for energy. Sprinting forces your body to function at its peak repeatedly. Combine this with a healthy brekky like fruit and weetbix after the run and you should see a notable difference in 1-2 weeks.
Point of warning – make sure you build your heart rate up with warms ups/warm downs as sprinting does put a strain on your heart if done without any prior stretching.
Hell no. I already get up before the dawn and hate both mornings and exercise.
Getting up at 5am just to sprint myself dead in pitch darkness, then doing a full days work just is not gonna happen :p
@tigerion fat to be sure.
@scree sorry, I think I’ve hijacked your thread.
How dare you want to discuss things related to the initial thread! =P
Lol I forgot about your crazy start times; try and limit it to the weekends? I can’t emphasize enough what a massive cheat sprinting with a coffee is. It really can be ridiculously effective; the only other option would be after work and I’d recommend doing that without the coffee but making sure you were a few hours away from your last meal; maybe have a lighter lunch so that you’re able to do a sprint on a relatively empty stomach. Make sure you have some carbs after – wholemeal bread toasted with a dash of olive oil as dip is one of my faves.
Hmm, I’ll see if I can work it in somehow.
Thanks for the advice!
I’m more confused then ever. When I increased my exercise, there wasn’t much change
Change in weight or change in size?
Edit: To clarify fat is lighter than muscle; a lot of people who start working out will notice they actually put on weight for the first 2-3 weeks because they’re building muscle faster than they are losing fat; real results usually show up 3-4 weeks later where the fat starts melting off because larger muscle groups now actively burn more fuel to keep alive.
Both. I put on a little weight, but my waistline wasn’t really changing.
I do a lot of walking and sometimes play soccer with the dog
Putting on weight with an unchanging waistline would indicate an increase in muscle mass; what are your goals with regards to keeping healthy? As with jo weight loss? or are there any parts you would prefer to put on a bit more muscle on?
Maybe just remove the bit of chub around my stomach and hips
Depends on the size of the waistline. If you’re over 38 inches then the waistline is probably caused by too much sugar. As far as diet goes, calories in calories out is the easiest way to see it but it does get a lot more complex than that. Just cutting out lots of excess sugar tends to have the best effect there. If you’re under 38 inch waistline (for a male) then I wouldn’t use the waistline as a measurement of weight loss. Just take photos of yourself each day in the same pose and same clothes and you should start noticing differences around the stomach, arms, chin, etc.
If it’s just a little less fat no better cure than cardio; similar answer to what I gave jo, coffee + early morning run burns fat off even the leanest people. mcdagget’s got a point too with the sugar; if you’re already happy with your shape and you just want to lose a bit of fat sugar’s the no.1 culprit there. Cut back on sugar (don’t replace with products that claim 95% sugar free) just cut back and you should see a difference.
I can’t actually have caffeine due to my anxiety. I’ve cut it out completely. I’ve also cut down on sugar by only drinking water aside from my daily iced mocha.
I’ve cut back on Chips and chocolate,t hings I used to eat almost daily.
If you can’t have caffeine replace with any hot drink that will keep your stomach full for the jog.
Aw, but I’m lazy and I don’t wanna run.
Exactly this! I want to be able to run for a bus or carry my son without falling in a heap. Exercise has fixed this, bit it hasn’t shifted the weight. Simply because I am one of those people to LIKES to eat. I have trouble stopping when I eat something I really enjoy (look out cheese plate), I tend to serve portions that are bigger than they should be (More rice? Yes please!) and I’m a shocker when it comes to feeling like I have to finish a meal just because it’s there (yes, I eat my son’s leftovers).
Add a few too many beers, and ta-da! Fat lady. At least now I’m a fat lady who’s finished a city2surf in under 2 hours.
Doesn’t help that the more you exercise the hungrier you get.
Nice one on the city2surf!
Yep. I used to paddle dragonboats and I’d get home from training and Eat All The Things. And thank you, I’m pondering whether I do the c2s again this year or whether this year is the year I attempt a half marathon. Nothing like a looming, already-paid-for event to keep up the motivation.
One would never guess that based on your username
Being a good cook is a gift and a curse. What’s the saying? Never trust a skinny chef…
Some larger friends who’ve noticed rapid weight loss have usually done so from diet alone… initially. But that yields diminishing returns until they have to get their asses to the gym to get the shape they want.
Half hour run. And I hate running.
I just hate plain water even more 😛
(though not as much as Coke)
You should parkrun. And then I can recruit you to the Derek Zoolander Centre For Kids Who Can’t Run Good.
Can I just walk instead?
DM me on twitter and we can talk more if you’re vaguely interested.
Vaguely interested but really doubt whether I’d actually be committed to doing anything, to be honest. Climbing I can keep up with because while it is exercise it’s also problem solving, so it keeps me interested and engaged. Regular old exercise like running or whatever has never really done it for me at all.
I guess the big question is are you actually putting on significant weight, starting to struggle with physical tasks or getting sick in ways related to your diet? Sorry if that’s a bit personal but the way you phrased all this gives me the impression you’re stressing about uncertainty more than the impact of eating poorly. Are you worried because you’re demonstrably less healthy or are you worried because you’ve noticed that you don’t know what you should and shouldn’t be eating and in what portions?
If that’s the case you might be able to resolve this by just learning more until you feel confident you know what you’re eating rather than just lumping things into healthy and unhealthy piles, but it’s hard to do that with so many seemingly reputable sources of conflicting advice and knowing that most dietary information is selling you a diet rather than offering straight facts.
I’d recommend looking at books on fitness and nutrition aimed towards students learning fitness training and biology. They’re not 100% flawless guides to health and new information is always coming through, but they’re rarely as dramatically wrong as the people presenting the new information claim they are. Most of the ‘carbs are the devil, no wait, now they’re heroes’ stuff have serious factual roots but they’re usually presented in extremes. It sounds counter productive because they’re offering you more precise information but I find you’re better off ignoring them and focusing on the basics.
In gamer terms it’s like the people in World of Wacraft who insist that the method they learned to gain a 0.1% increase in damage per second totally invalidates any merit other builds have. It’s not bullshit per se but it’s not actually that important. The human body doesn’t really need to be min-maxed unless you’re doing some hardcore training. If you want to do some hardcore bodybuilding I can recommend a few great people.
Are you naturally slim? I find that’s where a lot of my issues with food stem from. I’ve got no idea what eating bad or eating healthy feels like because I’ve never really felt the effects of food one way or another. It’s sort of a nutritional numbness. A really healthy meal feels worse to me than a stack of pizzas because the only difference between the two is that one tastes better. I’m aware of this which makes me paranoid that I’m slowly destroying myself without realising.
It feeds into my need to quantify things too much. Since I can’t feel any difference when eating it in order to feel like I’m eating right I need to know exactly how much of everything I should be having down to the gram… which doesn’t actually matter on a regular human diet. It makes it hard for me to feel like I’m doing things right when I’m just eyeballing roughly how much spaghetti should be on my plate.
Also one last hard question, but is this related to stuff you’re seeing as a care-taker? Being confronted with health issues can make you feel your mortality pretty hard. Even when you feel you’re already used to it small things can trigger it. I know someone who smoked for years, dealt with cancer patients plenty of times, then had a massive change of heart because someone who didn’t even have a smoking related illness reminded them of some part of themselves.
I think it’s just my anxiety playing up.
Internet comments might be slowly killing me. I’ve been thinking about this more than I should be the last couple of weeks.
The idea of a reasonable discussion on the internet about anything at all, is next to impossible. This is old news, but the combination of ‘the ability to broadcast ones opinion and the lack of accountability for stating said opinion’ has become the stuff of nightmares; I believe it’s one of the major causes for the horrendous rise of narcissism in our society.
And I’m struggling to come to terms with how we handle poor opinion online. Guidelines are built so everyone gets a fair say, but there is so much dumb stuff said (the hypothetical reply, “like this post” for example), that someone’s moral right to have their voice be heard, often ends up in an online feud.
A lot of verbal feuding online wouldn’t happen in reality; there’s social rules that are learnt at a young age, that govern ones attitude and discourse. But almost every online TOS/User Agreement or Community Rules/Guidelines ignore those real-life social rules, instead opting for a Utopian “everyone is equal” mindset.
Is the internet a utopia for well-considered thought? If not, why are all our rules designed like it is?
DUMB STUFF SAID ONLINE? LIKE THIS PO- GODDAMMIT YOU BEAT ME TO IT.
In all seriousness, I think a lot of it stems from the lack of clear tone in text (for instance, I think most people who know me can guess when I’m being sarcastic (90% of the time), but without the cues it’s reasonable that someone unfamiliar with me might assume I’m being genuine), plus, there seems to be a shocking lack of knowledge about how to phrase your views on something without sounding like a gobshite. I had it drilled into me in school to avoid absolutes, not to state my opinion as fact, and generally how to form a vaguely (at best) coherent statement. If you replace that with the stream-of-consciousness mind-dumps that a lot of online interaction seems to be, it’s fairly easy to see how even slightly different views can lead to conflict.
Also, yeah, people are jerkbags.
Cuts deep, man. Cuts deep.
MAYBE IT WOULDN’T CUT SO DEEP IF YOU WEREN’T SUCH A JERKBAG!
http://data.whicdn.com/images/67310951/large.jpg
Don’t think about it too much. The further in depth you go the more depressing it becomes. There are other more worthwhile things to do.
1) Does anyone want a relatively-new’ish EVGA GeForce 760?
2) I changed my mind on The Division. (Got a copy with my new GPU.)
There’s a lot more content than I thought there’d be, and the levelling/progression isn’t as fast as I thought it’d be either. The city is actually pretty huge. And gorgeous.
The world-building and graphics are second-to-none, the level of fine detail in every single street, in every single apartment you can enter is mind-boggling.
Story’s still shit. It’s exactly what I first noted: a handful of exaggerated stereotype NPCs emoting at you as you play detective/voyeur with everyone’s meta-data+plain old regular data. Suffers from the same problem Destiny did: someone decided that a scattered collection of vignettes could fulfil the same role as an actual narrative or character development and interaction.
(God that attitude shits me. Some fucking suits somewhere decided that a handful of gushing player anecdotes about ’emergent gameplay’ situations were a great word-of-mouth marketing tactic and could be advertised as the bullet-point, “Your story.” Well, ‘your story’ is a shitty one if it doesn’t go anywhere or mean anything in context. Remember that time I saw a dog with a hat? Yeah… that dog was cool. And making it ‘your story’ also seems to mean having a silent protagonist, because if your character actually had a personality, you might not be able to pretend that it’s actually you. God damn self-insertion bullshit, ruining good storytelling…)But yeah, with the amount that there is to do, the variety of tasks, the rewarding progression, I actually consider it probably worth the box price. Maybe not treat it as an MMO to be played for literally hundreds of hours of grinding the endgame, but a pretty satisfying journey from A to B.
Might not actually reach B… we’ll see how it goes with them need to avoid any kind of in-game resolution so that they can add more content for the next two years. But so far the journey’s fun.
I’ve been looking at upgrading my card but don’t have the budget for it recently so could be interested
Will need to confirm if it can fit into my motherboard and that it is worth the upgrade
If it was a 780 I’d be interested… 😛
Something that has surprised me so far: The Division is actually seriously enjoyable just playing the game by yourself. Group stuff is still good fun, but just playing/existing is really nice.
On The Division:
Hmm… Despite being 13+hrs in, I’m still not entirely sold on it. I’d done the same mission three times by level 12 – defend a water pump, kill waves of enemies and turn the occasional valve – in the exact same room, with the same valve sequence and the same enemy spawn locations and sequence, in three different locations across the first half of the city. Playing PvE with friends is fun, inasmuch as playing anything with friends is fun, but played a few hours last night solo, and it’s… well, dull. The only thing keeping my interest is the constant stream of upgrades I’m getting, and the minor variation in weapon handling… but once that tapers off and weapon handling drifts to homogeny, I can’t see myself playing for long.Gameplay-wise, the shooting is satisfying… when enemy armour is not involved (maybe this gets negated by weapons with more than “+6% bonus to armour,” but as of level 16, it’s a laborious, tedious process to take down anything with a yellow health bar). Headshots are satisfying, tho I’m not sure if the near-full-second pause between the shot landing and them dying is intentional to convey impact, or just lag.Story is… :S The lore is alright – the setting is interesting, but the ‘evidence’ that’s meant to tell you about it beats you over the head with a bunch of barely related news excerpts and security footage. Hell, the “track down the agent” collectibles don’t ever mention why the agent was where they were, what they were doing, or what happened to them. Have yet to hit a mission that suggests the job isn’t finished at its end, nor a subsequent mission in the thread that didn’t feel like an unnecessary sequel. Have yet to see a “big bad” that didn’t get taken out at the end of the mission I first learned of their existence… so enemy character development has thus far been limited to “This guy Lester is bad… he’s over there, protected by his two lieutenants and a bunch of… oh, you’ve killed him. Good boy. *pats head*” Friendly characters are all cliff-notes stereotypes at the moment, too.I hear good things about the Dark Zone from friends, but it’s not really my thing. And it’s still early days – we’ll see what happens when the arseholes are max level and fully geared.TL;DR: Currently debating rushing through it this week, then returning it to EB for maximum possible credit toward Dark Souls 3, but I’ll see how endgame looks before I go that far.
Even though I agree with the rant you’ve actually done a pretty good job nudging me off the fence. I might pick it up when I’m done with Twilight Princess.
Well that’s how it goes with this sort of storytelling. You either never get to the end or the end is in the highest tier of content because a raid most players won’t even enter that is completely devoid of plot is somehow the logical point to end the story. Seriously, how many major MMO plot lines end with ‘and then we all went to a castle and killed eight monsters in a row’? They’ll write some really cool lore in the quest lines leading up to it and then finish with a simple boss gauntlet where nobody says a word.
(Or there’s ‘too much’ talking for something that you’re going to repeat 10 times a night, three nights a week until you get it right, and raiders complain about how much talking there is.)
It’s lunch time and I’m sitting here typing this.
Counting down till home time 🙂
Feel like watching more Mr Robot tonight, need to charge my Surface though.
If things were better moneywise I’d buy a new one, I still have a Gen One Surface RT!!
I see many new names here in TAY, I must have stopped posting like 4 years ago now, or at least posting with any kind of ferocity, damnable blocked internet at work
Time flies….
I’m usually too lazy to post but I’m rather bored at work. Pity I can’t watch stuff at work. I have about 100 TV shows I need to catch up on but instead I’ll be playing The Division with the brief time I get free this afternoon.
I’d love to be able to watch stuff at work, I can’t even listen to music in earphones 🙁
I was bored and scoured my post history, it’s like 3 years and some change I stopped posting
That surprises me, doesn’t feel like that long at all
I have a Tiglet now
Looks to have been around March 2013 but I have a feeling it’s closer to December 2012 (I am probably wrong)
You have a Tiglet? Grats!!
Yep 19 months old and cheeky as all hell
Wow this has been a really, really crap week *sigh*
Spoilered for personal/emotional stuff
First, the girl I was going out with on Sunday told me she would rather be friends which would have been fine if I hadn’t caught the dreaded “feelings” with her already by that stage so I’ve already been miserable all week. Now, my ex has gone and just cancelled an appointment which was finally arranged for tomorrow morning for mediation that I have been trying to organise since last November to arrange times that I get to spend with my 3 year old son (I was trying for an increase). I had already arranged to take leave from work as well.
Just when I think things were finally starting to come together in my life this happens, now who knows how much longer I have to wait for another appointment 😐
However, I will not let this get to me for long. I will give myself time to get over these disappointments then pick myself up again and soldier on.
No matter how hard you try and make things life, I will prevail! *shakes fist at life*
Eventually good things have to happen right???
Spoilered for the personal stuff
Thought re: mediation. Depending on the appointment, if you’d booked a time with a mediator and she’s now deciding “nope, that time doesn’t work” with no notice, you’d have a pretty good case to show up to the mediation anyway and then request a certificate of non-compliance towards her. You can then use that to get an enforcement / judgement on your parenting rights. NAL – And I forget what the certificate is actually called, the mediators would know, but essentially saying that while you’ve made a good faith effort to mediate she hasn’t come to the party@Haggis
This really depends on the relationship you have with your ex.Once you push the button on something like that and force the issue it can make things go sour really quickly. And once she isn’t on board with actively helping you get access (or in the very least not blocking it) it can get much harder.
Yes, excellent point. That really is the “Ghandi style tactical nuclear strike” option, should be considered as a last resort.Unfortunately, the relationship is not great at all, in fact the opposite, it almost couldn’t be worse 🙁From my part, I would like to be able to talk to her amicably and get along with her for our son’s sake, unfortunately she doesn’t feel the same.
I guess it’s good that I do get some access to my son as I know some people have it far worse and don’t get to see them at all.
UPDATE: It looks like the mediation now won’t occur until April, 5 months after I had started the process 😐
If she attempts to reschedule again, I will then get a certificate of non-compliance. *Sigh* Why does this have to be so difficult??
Many Dad Jokes will need to be posted to increase the happiness level this week that’s for sure!
Sorry to hear that man =\
That said you’re only really defeated if you get knocked down and choose not to get back up again. Maybe I watch too much anime but I’ve yet to face a problem determination and hard work can’t overcome so you’ve already got the right attitude!
Besides we will always have Friday and dad jokes. So good things are due shortly =P
Yeah, 16 years of battling depression (which ended over 2 years ago now) has given me lots of experience in dealing with nasty mental stuff. I don’t let stuff get me down too long like they used to that’s for sure.Anywho, here’s something (mainly for my own benefit):
Why do soccer(football) players make the best singers?
Because they’re always singing in aaaaah my knee.Hang in there bud !
I’ve been telling that to myself. My now, ex gf broke up with me saying to me the old ” its not you its me” line. All dreams, hopes and were shattered. To be honest, I didn’t saw this coming and that makes it really painful. Getting back to single life is a bit of challenge and so as the acceptance that there is nothing can be done about it. Worst is, she works at the same place.
I have been doing meditation and it does help, makes me 10% less miserable. So, if you get the chance, get back into it.
Hope is the key, good things surely will happen .

Life is what happens when you’re busy making plans. Especially if you’re an architect.
#Hi@strange!
Ugh just played 4 back to back hearthstone matches at work (you can tell im busy) and it felt like the most tedious pointless exercise – lost 1, won 1, lost 1, won 1. Aka my rank is unmoved. Screw you game, and screw you p2w decks =@ The game’s just turning into a colossal grind now; there’s not even that many new decks to kind of muck around with and learn from scratch.
Seriously, just quit. I have never been happier about quitting a game – and this is coming from someone who quit playing Dota and then willingly got back into it.
I just love the way you can make a post with 2 links in it, but if you edit that post, it’ll go to moderation hell. 🙁
Reposting because time-critical and first one went to moderation:

These are two really great board games that have had really successful campaigns and this will be your last chance to back them.
If I were to buy another deckbuilder, I’d buy Trains.
Sounds like you’ve got a bit of a one track mind. Need to go off the rails sometimes.
Choo CHoo, motherfucker.
Maybe he just really needs to blow off some steam?
That is a very good game
If I had played Trains before I played and bought Dominion I would not have bought Dominion. It’s not that I don’t like Dominion (though it is underplayed in my collection) but Trains is much more in my wheelhouse because it’s got trains in.
Now I wish my friend had Trains instead of Dominion and got us to play that instead.
Heart of Crown has ruined Dominion for me completely. I’d never pull out Dominion now.
There’s also this one for fans of Cyanide & Happiness or Cards Against Humanity.

So tempted. I love Cards Against Humanity, it brings out the worst in everyone which is awesome.
Yeah, I got the $35 tier. Looking forward to this one 😀
What a day.. Woke up at 6.30 (why I have no idea since I got to sleep somewhere around 2am..) was awake maybe 30 seconds and my boss rings me sounding exhausted & distressed asking if I can work today, because she was stuck at the emergency vet with her dog since 2am & probably wasn’t going to be out of there any time soon, me being me say sure, since I want the money & hours. So yeah my day of being relaxed & doing nothing ended up with me working heh.
But hey more money in my pocket.
I hope karma repays your generosity.
Thanks! I’m sure it will!
Is Karma his boss’ name?
I spent $250 at gametraders. I’m the worst.
Ooh loots what did you get
If it was EB i’d say probably a pop vinyl or two. But since it’s Gametraders probably something worth the $$ 😛
Legend of Legacy, story of seasons, until dawn, twilight princess collectors edition and a large Michonne figure
Yay! Buy all the things! \o/
When the Gametraders near my parents place closed down I spent $80. (I bought 2 sentinel of the multiverse expansions).
Looks like they’re getting smaller and smaller which is bad. =(
Yeah, I liked the Gametraders near my parents place. Not many more left near me I don’t think. =(
Just saw an advert for the DOOM multiplayer and it got me thinking, do you think all the players in that match have stage rehearsals in preparation for the advert footage?
Most likely have some kind of rehearsal, whether it’s ‘stage’ rehearsal or not.
Just got a message from one of my climbing friends:
“That girl [who was at climbing on Monday] came to the gym tonight and was like “Where’s [Gooky]?’ We told her you only come Mondays.
Your lady game is strong at the moment, many kudos ;)”
Well that’s certainly… alrighty then 😛
Things are really slipping in the character naming department this season
It’s still introductory stages atm, gotta wait for things to settle 😛
AlphaGo has beaten a top human pro at Go twice in a row now. This is how Skynet started. No wait. The machine wars from the Matrix? No. Not that either.
Dammit, have pop culture AI apocalypses completely missed this obvious path to our destruction because nobody could possibly conceive of a computer beating a human at Go?
The perspective that “an AI could never beat a human at Go” has always struck me as odd.
Sure it’s really frickin hard but it still is basically a matter of knowledge of a finite moveset + ability to think ahead. So a database + processing power.
Yes its more complicated than that but still the kinda thing computers are essentially built to do.
Pretty interesting though. And I’m sure you could use this opportunity to fill the gap in our literature at the next nanowrimo.
I’m slightly exaggerating. An AI that could defeat a top human at Go was inevitable. I just didn’t think it would happen before hoverboards. It’s one of those crazily impressive things because it’s taking a deep well of human knowledge, blowing it up and giving us a new ocean.
Put it this way: when I was in my second year at university, so 2003, I did an AI course and Go was a heavily talked-about problem. It’s an extremely hard game to win. Chess champions can look maybe 5-6 turns ahead, so to beat a really good chess player an AI just needs to be able to see further ahead. There’s always an optimal move.
Go, meanwhile, is very different. There’s much more high-level strategy involved and the best go players can see dozens of moves in advance. So back when I did that course, Go was considered unsolvable. AI at the time could barely beat a semi-pro player. And when you think about it, the fact it’s taken another 13 years of AI development and computer hardware advancement to get to this point is a testament to just how hard that game is to make a competitive AI for.
An interesting thing about AlphaGo is that it is incredibly conservative. It will always take a 90% chance at +1 point over an 80% chance at +15 points. I get the feeling that leads to a bunch of early moves that human players wouldn’t expect (same happened in Chess), followed by just a crazily good end game.
Also, the processing power used must be pretty intense. AlphaGo was on the clock and in the first game was behind on time in the first game, then went to overtime in the second.
It’s mind-boggling when you consider the number of possible moves.
The exact number of legal positions on a 19×19 board:
208168199381979984699478633344862770286522453884530548425639456820927419612738015378525648451698519643907259916015628128546089888314427129715319317557736620397247064840935
(I didn’t even make that up – that’s the real number).
Mmm, decided tonight i’d be fancy & over indulgent & decided to make chicken & bacon pastries with caramelised onion, sun dried tomato & maasdam cheese. Just waiting on them to finish in the oven, should be good. If not then, well I suck haha.
Oh uh wow.. This is a new one.
A friend just shared this on Facebook. I’m actually speechless that she of all people is sharing such hate, when she goes on to preach that women, refugees & the indigenous are unfairly treated & that the Liberal party disgust her & that the greens have the right ideas etc..
I can’t believe someone who has a husband (who is a rad dude & kids) can be so narrow minded when it comes to such a thing when they preach equality on a daily basis.
Before that I never really thought i’d see her share such awful shit and then have her friends support it..
…Yep.
I was waiting for the post to tell all men that they can’t be raped that male rape is a made up term. I’ve seen people say that before though that scares me that these people are allowed to vote as well 😐
Not like I know her, so I don’t have any context, but is this possibly just a issue of semantics? That message acknowledges that men, and white people, can be discriminated against. Would it be more correct to say that the issues of sexism and racism are specifically those targeted at women and non-whites?
Edit: Given the timing, is it likely that this is in response to International Women’s Day, and all the predictable responses of “what about International Men’s Day?”?
Honestly. I don’t know. But i’ve never seen her share anything when men have been the victims of similar crimes whether it be rape, domestic violence etc. When she constantly shares news stories about that stuff when it about women. Like I saw her complaining about Turnball cutting the domestic violence leave for his staff, she managed to turn it into a women only issue which I found wrong, domestic violence affects everyone, not just women or kids like some people seem to believe, I mean i’ve fucking seen it happen it’s not unusual thing around here sadly :/
But I dunno. I’m just sick of friends trying to push an agenda down my throat constantly. I hate it when people tell me my problems aren’t important or that I should be lucky i’m a white male.
Wow… just… wow…
I ‘unfollowed’ her on Facebook for a while because I found everything she shared was just negative news & pushing political agendas. Then I refollowed her recently cause I like the pictures she posts of their dog (border collie x lab) but with those came all the negative news again so I figured enough is enough. As much as we get along, I can’t stand it anymore plus she’d argue with my friends on my links sometimes, especially one mate who is just a troll some days, who she took seriously after I specifically told her he is doing it to rile her up.
I understand the concept of what that post is trying to share but it does take the mentality to an extreme level; making a statement of who can or cant be discriminated against is discrimination in itself.
That said if a sex/race/sexual preference has been historically oppressed then in context of previous oppression they are allowed to be more defensive; this however shouldn’t discount any future discrimination against previously un-oppressed demographics.
I’ve always found that the most dangerous prejudices come from people who believe they’re being completely open and accepting. After all a racist/sexist isn’t one in their own head.
I do to. But it’s like the people who think Fememisn means it’s for females only & it’s to take revenge at males for being dominating for thousands of years & not for the idea of bringing equality to everyone regardless of who you are.
It’s also like the people who say white people can’t comment on slavery because they were never slaves & always the slave masters. I guess the white slave trade of Europe & northern Africa by the Arabs for example never existed or how the British oppressed (my ancestors) the Irish for as long as they did.
I dunno. I’m all for everyone being treated equally, but I wish people would be civil about it & not turn it in to a ‘my problem is bigger therefore more important; or ‘my kind was oppressed for x centuries therefore I should get special treatment first’ y’know? Personally I hate special treatment, I just want to be treated like a human being, an adult one at that too.
…It’s not necessarily technically wrong, just stripped of nuance. Sexism and Racism are tied up in systems of privilege, so the effect within our specific cultural contextof (to pick an example) white people oppressing other races is much higher than the other way around. That doesn’t mean people who aren’t white can’t carry racial prejudices, it’s just that the effect is different because of privilege systems.
One of the main problems with any of these social justice conversations on the internet is that the terms and parameters of it have been seized by a general public that hasn’t had it taught to them properly. You generally find that when it’s been defined properly, people cotton on pretty well, but on the internet, people have read it off tumblrs and reddit and tend to have a pretty simplistic view of these definitions.
That’s why you see stuff like this and also people reacting with a knee-jerk to the idea that they have privilege even if they don’t feel privileged.
Another final day kickstarter warning:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/revivalprod/overload-the-ultimate-six-degree-of-freedom-shoote/
Overload is the modern Descent game being developed by the Descent guys. They have a playable alpha up. It’s good. It’s Descent. And this is a proper single player game and everything like it should be.
So basically it’s everything that the game that actually licensed the Descent name should be, but isn’t.
It also doesn’t look great for it. ~25% left to get to its goal and not enough time left. 🙁
There is normally a last minute surge but yeah that is going to take a lot
Oh yeah I went to download the VR demo for that yesterday. Took forever. Like, over two hours for 285MB I think. Thing must’ve been getting hammered 😛
Forgot to actually try it out once I got home though.
I tried it and whoa. No way to adjust joystick sensitivity, and it was waaaaaaay too sensitive. Couldn’t play for long, though that was partly because it glitched out after I died as well.
It’s an alpha though.
In the end it made it to its funding goal \o/
Thank for everyone’s suggestions yesterday. I will still go see a doctor, because I feel it may be an anxiety issue more then anything.
So table-top players, and more specifically those interested in games like warhammer but don’t want to spend a fortune – I just came across this!
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1639292152/cardstock-warriors
It’s basically warhammer with paper cutout.
ADORABLE paper cut outs!
You know what that means? Your wife, girlfriend or left hand may even play as well!
Not my left hand, though. Mine’s only good for one thing.
Pretty awesome little kickstarter and very well priced
Okay that’s pretty cool
I still have the book and Lego models for Mobile Frame Zero: http://mobileframezero.com/mfz/
Yeah that was one of those things that looked awesome and then went absolutely nowhere.. haha
They released a sequel, which is spaceship based. Mate of mine got it, but I told him I’m not playing it until we play the LEGO one.
…the MECH one. They’re both LEGO ones
Don’t see any little paper necrons, so not interested 😛
Hoorah, I feel proud of myself today was my last time reporting my income to centrelink for newstart allowance! I’ve been dreaming of that day since I had to go on it 3 years ago. Feels good to be independent of unemployment benefits.
The first time I did that, the lady at centrelink said “see you later.” My response was “no offense, but I hope you don’t.” She laughed.
Haha. Yeah, that’s the plan.
I do like the fact that the employment agency I see continue to give me support for 6 months after. They make me bring them receipts for fuel every month lol. Haven’t paid for fuel since I started working which is nice. Plus they’ve reimbursed me for my uniform & other stuff that was work related which is also cool. They’ve been so much help over the last lot I was with who never wanted to help my find work or whatever.
She laughed? I thought they staffed centrelink offices with robots powered by hate and bile.
I find this insulting to robots everywhere, some of us are also powered by snark!
What about sarcasm?
They don’t last very long, they keep getting damaged beyond repair because some meatbag took that sarcasm as serious, we usually use monotone voicepacks so it’s easy to mistake it.
Dang it.
I’ve never had anything but pleasant interactions with centrelink staff.
That’s… not been my experience.
With any luck, I’ll not have to darken their doorway ever again.
God damn it, my desk has ants everywhere & I don’t know why 🙁 There isn’t any food of anything on here. But turns out 99% isopropyl alcohol works on stopping them in their tracks..
I’ve had mine breaking in through the kitchen window. Bosistos eucalyptus spray also does the trick (and makes the kitchen smell nice too!)
Ooh I have a bottle of eucalyptus oil i’ll have to give it a go, thanks!
OK, since I’m leaving work early today (lunchtime), I must dump all the dad jokes upon this page.
#SorryNotSorry #DadJokePage6IsAJoke #DadJokeFridays
I have just finished my sandwich degree, I do my final eggs ham tomorrow….
Today I bought a CD of Prince’s Greatest Hits for under 20 bucks!!! Now I’m going to party like it’s $19.99!!!
I bought some rocket salad yesterday…..but it went off before I could eat it.
What do you call a fat psychic?
A four-chin teller.Someone has broken into our local police station and stolen all the toilets. A spokesman said “so far we have nothing to go on.”
A mushroom walks into a bar and sits next to the hottest woman in the place, and asks if he can buy her a drink.
She looks down at the mushroom and says, “you’ve got to be kidding me.” The mushroom says, “why not? I’m a fungai.”
I have got some finance for my idea for a film about broken legs.
It needs casting.
How Long is a Chinese man’s name.
No, it actually is.
My roommate told me my clothes look gay.
I was like, don’t be a dick dude; they just came out of the closet.
What do Cannon Balls do when they’re in love?
Make bbs.I bought the world’s worst thesaurus yesterday.
Not only is it terrible, it’s terrible.
Holy shit that’s so good
Every friday I email my wife a bad joke to cheer her up. You in recent months have been my major source of excellently groansome humour.
This, however, eclipses everything. I thank you, sir. Thank you. 🙂
Thanks man! To be honest, they help me a lot to. Nothing like a good/terrible dad joke to pick you up 😉
Argh. Not only did she not like it, she actually emailed me a picture of an Exploding Kittens “Nope” card. 😮
She has no soul. None.
See this is the problem. You get married and after 6 months she gets comfortable and her true colours start to come out. And suddenly you realise you are married to a monster
It’s only 5.5 months!!! 😉 We’ve been living together 4 years now though so I was aware of her foibles. She’s funny and copes with low-level nerdery pretty well. And she’s more of a DC tv show addict than I am. She collared me the other day to ask why I hadn’t got Constantine for her yet as “there might be stuff that links back to Arrow and I want to know…”
She followed up with a “Shuffle” card image. I’ll try another joke in a bit… 🙂
http://9gag.com/gag/anN2rvo
It’s Friday, gotta get down on Friday (in reality, Friday should be Andrew WK day musicwise)
Spaghetts Last listened to game – for me it was I Love You, Dude by Digitalism – the whole album
This morning was podcast though, Episode 4 – PTA Meeting – Welcome to Nightvale
I get to play The Division tonight, and probably more Far Cry Primal, I am loving it!
I will buy a pork belly and potetoes 🙂
AND, I found out that amongst all this restructure mess, I will be going to work in the pilot program
At the request of my old manager, it is for mindless data entry stuff but given my MOL’s recent cancer diagnosis I wouldn’t mind mindless
Who the hell is etc.
WELCOME BACK.
Thanks 😀
Get Your Shit Together by Caulfield – Shame they broke up, but I stopped listening to them when my mate quit as singer.
Before that, it was All Hope Is Gone – Slipknot.
Don’t think I’ve heard of Caulfield, any good?
Stock standard metalcore band, not bad if you’re into The Amity Affliction or bands like that
So, I collect the hardback cover collector’s edition Zelda guides. They’re normally a recommended retail price of $49.95 in Australia. However, it appears to only be available at EBGames at a price of $59.95. I assuming, and I may be wrong, that they have it exclusively at their store and have added an extra $10 just because they can
That’s what happens when a company has a monopoly over a certain item.
I’m hoping to source it from OzGameshop instead
does Bookdepository have it?
Haven’t tried
This humidity is the worst. Wish the temps would drop & bring some nice cool southerly or easterly breezes…
Hi TAY!
Spent the start of the week at the Marriott on the Gold Coast – they have fish in the swimming pool. Real. Fish. Alive. Swimming with guests!
Got some footage of the fish and the fish feeding (I think it’s the 4th time in 2 years I’ve used my GoPro) that I’m slowly and badly putting together. Add video editing to the list of things I’m not great at.
In other news my wife has been offered a voluntary redundancy as the company is winding up it’s Australian operations. They emailed her the documents at 11am this morning and want it back by 5pm today… nothing like 6 hours to try and get some independent and clear financial/tax advice. Anyone a qualified tax accountant?
Otherwise, it’s Friday!
Weekend plans – what are people doing?
Me – yard work – mowing, fence fixing and preparing veggie garden.
Trying to work out if I’ll be working tomorrow at the moment.
Moomba is on in Melb this weekend so checking out what is on but there website is useless for that. Has a schedule of events but doesn’t tell you anything about the event. Is The Rrrrrockets! suitable for an 18 month old? What about grow? A bit frustrating but I’ll have a look when I have time
Are there any Adelaide TAYbies? If so, I’ll be stuck in your fine city for work for a week in April, and there are plenty of great places to get delicious beer it seems. Recommendations? Would anyone like to join me?
The SATAY list is quite short. Hell, in terms of people who are still around here, it’s like me and @jocon and @lucifer9783 and sometimes @benny
So, beer?
Where are you going to be based, and from/to?
In the South, Old Reyella? I’ll have access to a car, so the CBD is no biggie. 10-15th April is when I’ll be around.
Hit me up closer to the time and I’ll let you know
What red said.
I’m not the best of company but I’ll meet up for a drink.
This is really excellent news for those looking forward to Total War: Warhammer

BOW DOWN BEFORE THE IMMORTAL LORD BLUESCREEN!
I’m an Elf loving pansy so I’m sad that they won’t be in the base game.
At the same time though, Goblin Doom Divers! Spider cavalry! Time to have the Goblins take over the world.
This headache threatens to split my skull.
Also, as I got a haircut and beard trim at lunch I am covered in loose hair.
This sucks
@cffndncr LOL just had a tavern brawl match where I played gromm on the first turn; double taskmaster turn 2 and the enemy played 2 spells to destroy random minions and hit the wrong minion both times! Sometimes rngesus watches over me…..
Did you just spam ‘Greetings’ afterwards?
I would have.
10/10 BM? =P Nah I did the classy thing while RNG screwed him over and said well played. Doubt it helped that he died on turn 3.
hahaha
I would probably have instantly quit playing if that happened to me. He must have been so mad.
So I got linked to this again today, I remember seeing it when my mate got Version 2 I think. It’s totally awesome and I want it for my next build, but $250 AUD before shipping, ouch 🙁 But it’s so tiny & awesome, maybe come tax time I can justify it 😛
Link fail 😛
Bugger it.. haha.
Fixed it 😛
Wait you managed to edit a link into your post and not have it go into moderation?
What black magic is this?
I only put one link, not two that’s how! 😛
https://www.oculus.com/en-us/blog/elite-dangerous-brings-deep-space-to-oculus-for-rift-launch/
Well that’s a gigantic relief. Though not exactly unexpected, at least that they’d have SDK 1.0 implemented for launch. Being sold on the Oculus Store is a little surprising though, given Frontier recommends a gtx980 to run it in VR. Seems like they still meet the Oculus recommended specs of a 970 though, so that’s nice to know.
Two and a half weeks to go! HYPE!

So Henry Rollins is coming to Aus in September for a spoken tour, i’m probably going. He’s doing two nights at The Tivoli thought i’d throw it out there for anyone that is interested could make a meat of it or something..
http://fasterlouder.junkee.com/henry-rollins-is-heading-back-to-australia-in-september-to-yell-at-you/858780
Not a massive fan of Rollins. Don’t mind him, but dun think it’s the kind of thing I’d pay to go see.
I have tickets for opening night (14th) already, but if we ended up doing a meat on the 15th I’d still consider going again.
All my money is tied up with drugs & hookers

I got the shield, as well as a framed Legend of Zelda poster.

Did you manage to get a discount?
Yeah. It was originally $129 reduced to $103.20.
I’m glad you finally got it
We have taught you well.
*nods*
I am in no way proud of myself for that.
And yet I’ve never been more proud.

I’ve never been more embarrassed =P
I love Shiro Bako. It’s just so relatable and true to life. Midway through season 2 now.
