I was speaking to my brother in-law. He has a Destiny problem. His problem is he plays it, all the time. Even when he doesn’t really want. The guy must have put in about 500 hours with this game.
And I wondered if I’ve ever put that much of my time into one single video game?
I’ve never really gotten into an MMO or a MOBA. Those games are usually the biggest time sinks. The closest I’ve come is with Halo 2 and Halo 3. I took the competitive side of those games pretty seriously. I was never very good but I put a lot of time into both. Probably 500 hours or above for both.
What games have you put the most time into?

Red Dead Redemption online and GTA San Andreas
I played WoW for 4 years. Was pretty much the only game I played for those years with a short break from it here or there.
Can’t remember my exact play time, but my /played was something like 6-12 months so 4000+ hours.
I calculated my time played from mid vanilla to mid wrath at around 180 days, about 4500 hours. Was a terrible waste of time that caused irreversible damage to both my academic and social skills. Was the best time of my life ;P
That game was extremely social for me…one of the main reasons I quit was the people I’d been playing with had drifted away.
Didn’t really affect my academics much…I’ve always gone for a minimalist studying regime.
It’s a toss up between Starcraft: Brood War, Starcraft II, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War, Mortal Kombat II or the various Smash Bros games. Not sure which of them I’ve spent more time on over the years.
Burnout 3: Takedown.
200 hours, zero regrets.
A life well lived right here!
WoW of course… Filthy casual with 2800 hours, give or take a couple of days
Recently I haven’t spent more than maybe 50 hours on a game….
So I think the most time would have to be Final Fantasy VI. I think I spent at least 80+ hours when I first played it on an emulator in high school. Then I got the PS1 version which I spent at least 100+ hours if only because it ran so much slower… And then the GBA port which I spent about 100+ hours on first time, and the the save got wiped, so I played it again for at least double that first time.
Lately? Ark Survival on xbone, but after 2 months I gave up due to trolls, I don’t think I’ve ever been this addicted to a game before….ever.
I’m up to 1100hrs on a little game called warframe, pretty much the only game I’ve played in 7mnths. You may not have heard of it, it’s Destiny….but better.
Ah that’s really interesting to hear, I played a little bit of warframe but was put off by the F2P model. Would have happily just given them $50 for a basic starter pack with a bunch of weapons and maybe a couple of frames but the transaction model is ludicrously confusing for a newcomer.
It’s a bit of a shame as the moment to moment gameplay of space ninjas was indeed great fun, particularly in co-op. I just feel like getting stuck with your starting weapon for 10+ hours and having to pay for a new one without being able to try it is not a great start, how do I know if I want to buy that weapon if i’ve never tried even the type before??
hmm anyway, I think they could do a bit to make it more friendly in the opening hours, might jump back in one day though, and happily throw them some cash if it wasn’t so opaque.
Umm for around $50 you can buy currency to unlock what you just wished for and speed up the process. The F2P is just that though, grind and farm no cash required just takes longer.
And if that’s ludicrously difficult for you to comprehend maybe you should stick with destiny
Warframe on PC!
Hold that lift for me too, Tenno! 🙂
In a bit over 2 years I’ve put in 1299 hours and made it to Mastery Rank 20, it’d be more but I have to you know work and stuff…
Project Zomboid.
Hundreds and hundreds of hours before it was even on Steam in some of the really early builds, early attempts at modding the game as well before the lua code was released for that. Less hours now that it’s logged on Steam, but it still far eclipses anything else. Except maybe Diablo 2. Countless hours on that one as well.
This.
Played early access version 0.01-whatever for hours until bored.
Then they release early access version 0.02-whatever, play that for hours until bored.
Released split screen support, now playing with family for hours on end until bored.
True story, I’ve still got copies of some of those early dev builds (0.17c is the earliest I think I have) from Desura downloads on my laptop. I’m actually one of the “Fanboy” edition supporters. 🙂
when I was at uni and had free time, probably Goldeneye 64? Unlocking every item, difficulty mode and 100% completing all missions. And the multiplayer – one shot kills. Good god, I couldn’t tell you how many hours.
YES! I rate this. I spent far too many hours on it as well. =P
According to Steam, I have over 1500 hours in Dota 2. I haven’t played that in months due to PC hardware issues.
I have nearly 450 hours in Spelunky. I haven’t played that in months because I thought I’d wean myself off of it.
I don’t know how many hours I put into Ragnarok Online in high school but it probably eclipses the two of those combined. Stopping that managed to turn me off MMOs and JRPGs (it makes sense in my head, even if it doesn’t make sense at all).
Aww yeah Dota. Get back on that!
Sure, when I can consistently get above 20fps. Haven’t played a single game in the latest patch. Annoyingly, I was playing a lot of Vengeful Spirit in ranked and then they buff her to top tier right when my computer gives up.
I know that pain – computer issues kept me from Dota for a while as well. I ended up buying a whole new rig (was due for an upgrade anyway).
I am a filthy casual with only 1,331 hours in Dota2, but I would have several thousand in the original Dota (going back 10 years or so) so yeah…
No ragrets.
Yeah playing WoW for 4 years ruined MMOs for me for a very long time. I’m only just starting to stick my toes back into that pond now…it’s been 6-7 years.
I only recently checked my Battlefield 4 Battlelog stats, just under 1,000 hrs.
I got mildly depressed at this revelation.
Yeah, really need to buckle up and power through. Get to that 1k hrs, you can do it!
Maybe, I set a goal to get 500 kills with every primary/sidearm which I completed ….. I may have to extend that to equipment….
Elite: Dangerous takes the crown for me. I think last I saw I’d spent something like 320 hours in it, which eclipses any single other game I’ve played before. That’s spread across the span of like a year and a half or something though. My next most played game would be Splatoon, which would have to be my most intensively played game. Last I checked I was at 250 hours, but that was over the course of only three months.
Probably a toss up between Diablo 3 and Oblivion.
I’ve put so many hours in to Diablo 3 on Xbox it’s ridiculous. I didn’t think it’d interest me beyond the story but I just can’t seem to stop playing it.
I played 250 hours of Skyrim. Possibly a similar amount on Animal Crossing: New Leaf. The only other game that would come close would be Sonic the Hedgehog when I was a kid.
Animal Crossing is the best example of one of those games where you do it all, feel stupid about it and don’t think you’ll ever do it again.
It’s just so pointless, and with so many different styles of game borrowing components of the ‘collect-‘em-up’ gameplay style I’m a bit fatigued of it. I don’t think I’ll ever get hooked like that to a game again.
I had 350 hours clocked in Skyrim + DLC’s
… Dark souls.
Previously FF7, although I spent a lot with Morrowind as a teen… jobless and such.
I do a full run of FF7 every year and then “challenge” runs, solo character, starting equipment etc. FF7 is so easy though it’s not really a challenge.
I’ve deleted maybe 60 Dark souls characters… all with new game plus at least. I started saving them to a hard drive but i realised a big part of souls is making new, fashionable characters. Different eye/skin/hair colour… i’ll stop now
Destiny – over 1200 hours.
Mass Effect trilogy ran about 330 hours, Civilisation II ate my life for a couple of years, Elite: Dangerous I have around 3 weeks of playtime.
Mass Effect. Oh yeah. Big hours spent on that one. Especially ME2. Amazing game. Just wish I could play it again for the first time.
I do keep meaning to do a final run-through to max my Shep all the way through the game. Maybe I’ll start over Easter… 🙂 I never played most of the ME3 DLC or the revised ending. Not because I had anything against it, but after seeing the end of the game, I just felt ‘done’ with it. That final sequence with the great music… wow.
Just like any time I hear Sia’s Breathe I think of the amazing ending montage of Six Feet Under and that’s me in bits. :/
Oh the ending of six feet under. I was in a room with 4 other people and I had to pretend to have a toilet emergency because I didn’t want to cry in front of all of them. Such an amazing ending. Keith! Why???!
I replayed ME3. Enjoyed all of it until the end, which, like everyone else, I didn’t like. So cheap. Such an anti-climax.
I was completely addicted to Maple Story at one point in my life. Played it for four years or so. I don’t have any exact figures but it was in the thousands. I know X-Games or whatever that old in game chat program was called recorded well over a thousand on its own and I did not use it all the time. My second most played games were probably Battlefield 2 and 2142 but I’m not sure if I ever breached the 1000 hour mark with either of those games.
Ah, I remember my MapleStory days. I reckon I racked up a nice chunk of hours just trying to complete that awful jumping quest in Sleepywood.
Haha, those jumping puzzles were brutal xD
Ooh, I can’t exactly remember the total tracked time as I don’t have my 3DS to hand, but Animal Crossing New Leaf and Pokemon Y are easily the top ones here.
Years back, I did a System Transfer from my old 3DS XL to my OG 3DS (months before the “News” were released, in prep of getting one) and to my horror, it was not a smooth experience.
Both games were digital eshop purchases, but I had lost the AC save. Bizarrely, the Poke y save was transferred unscathed.
I don’t know what I did wrong, what went wrong, and was scared to death about trying it again or recovering my back-up unless I also lost my Poke Y saves.
Other games I’ve been known to dive into:
Monaco
Dark Souls
Super Mario 64
Wii Sports
Lego City Undercover
Smash Bros
I wouldn’t necessarily count something like Skyrim, even though I’ve put in excess of hundred hours into it, looking back I actually don’t think I ever ‘loved’ it like some of the other games I’ve devoted major time to, weird right?
Ha, that Skyrim thing is so funny, feels like a giant to do list but you never enjoy the doing.
World of Warcraft and Binding of Isaac Rebirth would be my two most played games without a doubt. Played WoW excessively from launch until the 4th expansion and have dabbled a little here and there since.
I have over 270 hours clocked in on the steam version of Binding of Isaac and a good chunk of time on the PS4/Vita version too.
Damn. How good is BoI? On a related note, is the PS4 ever getting the Afterbirth edition?
It is pretty damn addictive! It is my go to game when I have like 30 minutes to kill.
Afterbirth should be released on consoles soon according to twitter. They mentioned they are going through the final submissions now.
Oblivion / Skyrim / Fallout 3.
Witcher 3.
Battlefield 3 / 4 / Bad Company 2.
Assorted versions of PES.
Closing in on 3,000 hours in Dota 2. Add maybe another couple hundred hours of Dota 1 and HoN.
Only other thing that comes close in the Guitar Hero/Rock Band series. I bought every single music game that came out on 360 and beat every single song multiple times, so that’s probably a lot of time. Probably.
I thought I played a lot of Dota 2, and I’m only at 1000 hours! It took me far too long to switch over from Dota 1.
I’ve been playing Runescape on and off since 2002 and World of Warcraft on and off since 2007 most of the time was heavily invested into Clans/Guilds it could easily be as high as 10,000 hours between them. regrets? nah I met some really awesome people and plenty of memories.
I played WoW from launch till last year and I think I have over a year of time in game.
Yep!
most played on steam is Torchlight 2 at about 250hrs.
but I think all the hours I put into morrowind would beat that by a significant margin.
I only have a small handful of games that I have put in over 300 hours into but interestingly none of them are my favourite games of all time.
Age of Empires 2
Battlefield 3
Oblivion
GTA San Andreas
EDIT: Ok maybe AOE2 is 1 of my favourites of all time
AOE2 stands the test of time, and is still a fantastic game to play multiplayer (or single really).
I can’t think of any game I have ever played at least semi consistently over more than 5 years. I reckon I’ve had at least 1 game of AOE2 every year for the last 15 years.
Mount & Blade: Warband
If I got paid by the hour to play that game, I would buy Australia out
I went back to this recently after reading some novels set around a similar type of style and man I sunk like 30 hours in to it over a weekend without even realising. For what it is it’s such a great value game, so addictive.
MechWarrior 3 online. Star League competition. Lag shooting like a motherf^%cker.
I don’t get Destiny… I booted it up again (I started with last expansion) couldn’t remember what the point was nor the story, went somewhere killed the same enemies and then to play the important co-op parts I apparently need to arrange outside of the game…. Put disc back in case and back in draw.
WoW easily – 10 years+
Skyrim has 450 hours clocked up
200+ hours into Skyrim, about 150 into the Mass Effect trilogy as a whole, and about 100-150 into Persona 4. Help.
Counter-Strike (All of them)
8000h in wow which I regret coz I missed out on so much else
300h sim city
100+ elite dangerous… battlefield 2… star conflict…. ark…wowarships…. rome 1… eve… the crew ….
lots of quake 1and2 back in the day cant remember
playing black desert now
Easily World of Warcraft, literally years. somewhere in the area of 17000 hours played I would guess.
But without WoW? maybe FFX? Think I have an average of 350-400 hours on my largest file then perhaps some 250 or so on a secondary file. League of legends is pretty high up there as well. Bringing up the rear is probably SW:TOR, FF14:ARR, Pokemon X/Y file is about 300 hours strong. Civ 5 likely has a significant sum of hours clocked up too.
I didn’t record how much time I spent playing the Eye of the Beholder series back in the day. Suffice it to say that I knew the games well enough that I could probably have played them blindfolded.
Somewhere in that mix came Civilisation, Star Craft and Brood War, along with Diablo II – these games ate up my university years.
Next was Axis & Allies (on PC) which I played for at least a few hours a week for a few years.
Mass Effect series has taken a good few hundred hours with multiple playthroughs and 100% runs.
More recently, Hatsune Miku Project Diva F series has taken about 500 hours or so combined.
920 hours of Skyrim, steam says, although I know it’s more than that. I had 2 play-throughs completed in off-line mode, that at the time had issues recording time played for me at least.
600+ for Fallout New Vegas, much more than that for Fallout 3, over Xbox and PC
250+ hours for both Civ V and Xcom
Don’t want to think how much time I’ve sunk into the Baldur’s Gate Series, more than any of the others, that’s for sure.
Oh Halo 3 for sure.
Played about 4500 online multiplayer games + lans + several campaign runs + forge.
Dunno for sure but probably nearing on 1000 hours.
1st: Civilisation V. comfortably.
2nd & 3rd (unsure of the order): Battlefield 2 and Oblivion.
Monster hunter, as a series, has taken several thousand hours from me over the years.
I also have thousands of hours in racing sims, but that was for work.
When I was doing HL1 modding in high school, that would’ve been up there too in early CS, The, the Opera, HL Paintball…
I don’t have much time for games these days, I rarely finish epic single player games, but xenoblade cx totally had its hooks in me. I never actually finished the wii one, either…
I also have many many hours in racing sims (easily over 1000 in rFactor) but I don’t count that as gaming. But most importantly, how the hell did you get paid to to racing sims???
We did commercial work for promotional events, as well as for internal testing for racing teams.
Simulators became a HUGE thing in F1 nearly overnight several years ago, I worked for two competing companies who now supply to over half of the field.
I tried to roll this work into more recreational projects, but nah, there’s really no money in that kind of thing in Australia. People are happy enough with stuff like forza.
sounds awesome! And you’re right about the tiny sim racing market in Australia, cracked copies of rfactor and the latest V8SC mod are about the only consistent formula that works. Trying to get a decent and consistent GT3 or F1 series is a bitch. Doesn’t help that I don’t really like iRacing either, RF2, Assetto and Raceroom are my general go-to’s.
well, you’ve motivated me to find a job testing racing sims if nothing else…
I still have the first promo video we made for v8factor kicking around. Man, that mod was such fun to work on! We really stuck it to codemasters for their shit work with the series license.
Not sure if this will work, it has licensed music on it: https://youtu.be/LeOyXrHubz0
Top 3 on steam:
Team Fortress 2
Warframe
Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen
Top 3 not on steam:
Monster Hunter (Tri, 3U and 4G)
Final Fantasy XIV
World of Tanks
I actually don’t know. I have played so many games off and on I don’t know what the cumulative total is. If I had to guess though it was probably WOW. I played super casually but for many years so it probably added up to several hundreds of hours. In terms of a dedicated “every day” tally, Disgaea 5 is probably sitting at the top of that list. Xenoblade Chronicles X may be next on it.
Whilst destiny sucked a lot of life out of me, I still think Red Dead Redemption took up more time. Loved that game so much
WoW, by far. Between 3500-4000 hours
I’ve played through every game in the Mass Effect series at least 3 times on Xbox (also played ME 1 & 2 on PC)
FFX
Destiny
Diablo 3
Just checked, and my Warframe playtime is up to 1072 hours.
And it didn’t cost me a cent. What a bargain. 🙂
WoW: 3000 hours, various version of Counter Strike would be around 500 hours, Souls series of games would be around 4-500 hours too. Nothing else comes close
Destiny – 1800hrs+… Next closest would be Anno 2070 and Rocksmith 2014 at around 350 hrs each.
1) Destiny, though I bailed out before my friends did
2) Crusader Kings 2
3) Skyrim
4) Civ V.
Happy with all of those.
Splatoon is the most recent title to come to mind — 140 hours.
Other than that, probably Pokémon Diamond at 120 hours, and I know I’ve spent much longer with Pokémon Emerald in total as well.
1. Pokémon Blue
2. Final Fantasy X
3. Final Fantasy VII
FF7 was the first game I put about 60 hrs into. Then Halo 2 and Battlefield 2 got about 60hrs as well. That was back when I had more time for gaming.
Lately I 99%’ed Farcry 4 which is unheard of for me these days.
I also get bored of playing the same game for so long, despite how great it may be. Variety is the spice of life they say.
Despite gaming for 35 or so years it seems I’m just a filthy casual!
A scarier thought is: How long have you waited for loading screens?
Definitely WoW. When I quit in April, 2010, I had over 420 days of playtime.
Hi everybody. I’m a WoW tragic. It has been nearly 6 years since my last raid.
Fallout 3 and Skyrim both have 500+ hours. These days its Fallout 4. 260 hours and counting.
I played Destiny nearly every night for a year, usually for at least 2 hours (but generally a lot more, especially on weekends).
I’d say I’m well in excess of 1,000 hours on that game. Well more than I’ve spent even on multiple playthroughs of Fallout 3 and New Vegas and Mass Effect.
World of Warcraft… played nearly everyday as a raider until the End of Cataclysm. Then went casual for Panda and Warlords. So /played on all toons would be measured in hundreds of days… two toons each with over 1 year online each plus another 150 days on alts. And thats the conservative estimate…. over 22,000 hours.
Is it really a bad thing though? Or even that strange? I mean you’ve probably put more time into games in the same period as your brother in-law. Odds are you didn’t love (or even like) good chunk of them. If I put the same amount of time into building furniture I don’t need or bowling nobody would think twice.
Not to mention when we play games for huge periods of time we tend to use the garbage hours. The hours I sunk into World of Warcraft and DC Universe Online involved being really social during times of the day that weren’t really usable for anything. What are most people doing between 7-12PM on a weeknight? Some nights I go out, but most of the time I’m just tired from work and looking to relax. I don’t go to bed at 8:30 so I’ve got plenty of time for hobbies and entertainment.
All we’re really doing is focusing our free time rather than mixing it up. It makes it seem like one continuous block of time that could be used better. It’s a bit like hearing how many hours we spend eating over a lifetime and thinking ‘oh, if I just eat twice as fast I’ll save enough extra time to learn Spanish’.
It depends on who you are as to whether it’s a bad thing or not.
I spent a lot of time in my teens and 20s droning on games. I regret that, I should’ve been out doing stuff. But now in my 30s, I have a healthy mix going on. I play an hr a day tops and I think there’s nothing wrong with that.
Quake 3 Arena. Hard to say, but I’d guess around 1500 hours. I played it 2-3 hours a day for a few years.
DayZ standalone – 712 hours. I don’t know why.
Dota 2 – 428 hours
WoW – No idea, but over the years I’m sure I’ve come close to 1000.
Probably 600 plus hrs in destiny, maybe 350 hrs in black ops 1, 180 hrs in skyrim, countless in quake 2 and FF7, those r probably the worst
WoW – About 8k
Starcraft: Brood War – Somewhere between 2k and 4k; impossible to know exactly.
Diablo 3 – 820 hours
CS:GO – 680 hours
Battlefield 4 – 560 hours
I tend the play the shit out of a select few games, and very little of others;I like to get deep into the mechanics of games I enjoy.
Wow and the NBA2k series
About 42 days on PS3 BO2 MP. Too Damn Addicted.
I’d say Diablo 2 definitely.
Many hours playing and replaying that solo and at lan’s.
Now Diablo 3 probably has my most hours. It got a lot better with the RoS release and other changes since then.
I still prefer D2 but D3 is decent.
The Diablo series is probably the only series of computer games that I have actually finished.
Arma 2 = 400+ hours before it needed Steam to launch, 710 hours since Steam. So probably over 1200hrs.
Arm3 = 586hrs
BF4 = 400hrs
World of Warcraft, don’t know,1000hrs maybe? 12 months solid play before I realised it was ruining my life.
Most time spent with a game was Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 (got to 700 hours in each before I lost interest, guess that’s my MMO limit).
But recently passed that mark in DOTA2 and don’t seem to be slowing down at all. Even though 50% of time that would be raged filled.
I’m like a junkie, I may need help.
It’s a great question. I wish I knew!
It could be the original Unreal Tournament, Sim City 3000 or Wip3out.
But is suspect it would be something surprising like Tetris (Gameboy).
For me it’s Street Fighter 4. No game has ever held me like that before. But I’ve also sunk a lot of time into RPGs like Deus Ex HR, Dragonage Origins and Mass Effect.
I tend to pick 1 game at a time that I really love and just suck all the gamey goodness out of it.
I also had great times with Splinter Cell: Blacklist (seriously, so good), Witcher 3, Dishonoured, The batman games and the Homeworld games (Back in the day for those ones! Oh I miss the 2000s). 🙁
I clocked up 2 weeks and 5 days worth of play time on timesplitters2 back in the day, nearly all multiplayer with mates too. The sad fact was that I think 2 days of it was the amnesia stat where you play between 12-7am
Team Fortress 2, over a 1000+ hours
Fallout 3, New Vegas and Skyrim I’ve played through those multiple times and I can see Fallout 4 is following close behind.
I’m planning on visiting every planet in No Man’s Sky. Does that count?
1500 hours on TF2, thanks to regular lunchtime games at work for a few years 😀
Warframe: 700+
Gnomoria: 800+
Destiny I am up to maybe like 750 hours. Skyrim is up to like 400. But I think my five years on EQ2, every day for hours when off work injured, would at least be both of those combined, then double or triple that again
I’ll post my own response at the bottom, but it was EQ for me. Pretty sure my main character got up around 300 days played before I gave the game away. Thats 300×24 for just that one toon… Others I played with in EQ had far more than even that amount, invested in two toons through multiboxing.
Those early MMO’s sure knew how to suck you in.
EQ2 never quite hit the same heights for me personally, but friends I know have invested massive amounts of time into it.
1100+ hours of GTA Online on the x1, but I was already level 300 when I brought the character over to the x1 from the 360 sooo its more like 300 levels + 1100 hours. I’d estimate close to 3000 hours across the 2 platforms.
Between Starcraft Brood war and Starcraft 2, probably about 15 years in total on and off.
Biker Mice from Mars
lol
Starcraft: Brood War/Warcraft 3/Dota 1/Dota 2.
Would be approx to 10,000 hours total… Jeebus!
Hmm out of interest looking at my Xbone stats
MGS V 106 hrs
Dark Souls 2 SotFS. 131 hrs
Titanfall 73 hrs
Watch Dogs. 115 hrs
Destiny (now sold) 107 hrs
Netflix. 451 hrs!!
And YouTube 1331 hrs!!!
I don’t know. Probably one of the following:
Age of Empires 2
Age of Empires 3
Empire Total War
Medieval 2 Total War
Endless Space
Sins of a Solar Empire
Company of Heroes
Company of Heroes 2
Mass Effect 2
Assassin’s Creed 2
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2
Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle Earth
Steam says ETW on 412 hours followed by ES 366 hours then SOSE at 246 hours. But a lot of those games in the list above were played out of steam (including ES and SOSE) so hard to tell.
I’m nearly at 1500 hours on Arma 3. And I’m the casual in my group, some of those guys are up to 3000+
It’s really hard to say.
Resident Evil 2 I’ve definitely replayed the most. But I can do a single run in 2 hours or less now.
Final Fantasy 7&8 would be way up there. No idea how much total because it’s on multiple memory cards & multiple consoles.
I put 200 recorded hours into Final Fantasy X on PS2, so that doesn’t include all the resets for drops after beating dark aeons.
Then I finished again on Vita.
Diddy’s Kong Quest would have to be the most I’ve put into a SNES game. I used to just replay random levels over & over.
And from the day it released until the day Mario Kart Double Dash released I played Mario Kart 64 over & over. Both multiplayer races, battlemode & resetting the memory & beating every track again just because.
Actually I’ve put a lot of hours into Dragon Quest IX too, wouldn’t really say I’m 100% done yet.
World of Warcraft. Can’t remember exactly how many hours I played but from memory when I quit it was around 3 months in game play time.
Outside of MMOs, Dark Souls. Played that a ridiculous amount of times.
Its going to be Everquest for me. I played that for over 7 years before moving on, with my main character having up around 300 days /played. Thats 300 x 24, or 7200 hours, give or take. Plus the numerous alts I had across two accounts, so it would be close to 10,000 hours at a guess.
Others I knew made that pale into insignificance, across EQ and EQ2, with thousands of days played on toons. WoW would probably be the second behind that, but I doubt it got past 1000 hours personally. Those early MMO’s knew how to keep you playing.
Overall probably WoW
Single player, Dragon age origins followed by Skyrim according to my steam account.
I’m sorry, but there’s one name we call people with 500 hours clocked up in Destiny……ROOKIE! 500 hours is nothing!
I have spent roughly 400 hours in monster hunter 2. probably closer to 900 hours in total across the entire series! Monster hunter dominated my life on psp… haha
There are some seriously impressive numbers in the comments.I have a few games I’ve put some time into.
Witcher 3-600hrs,Shogun 2-800 hrs,Fallout 3/New Vegas/Skyrim-350hrs eachish,Borderlands 2-at least 1000,and I’ve finished my beloved Bioshock 65+ times at maybe 15hrs per game.
I feel bad saying this. 7k hours on wow, since vanilla.
its ok i am far worse with 9960 hours played further down =p
hmmm well the list will be:
Starsiege: Tribes
GTA san andreas MP
Destiny
GTAV
GMOD
Planetside 2
Dayz
so many hours on tribes…so many hours
My staple between other games that catch my eye is modded minecraft, mostly skyblock maps which are technically challenging.
Never been near WoW or Destiny, I’ve seen the hours others put in and I’m likely to go down that rabbit hole so I’ve stayed away.
I put about 750 hours into Ark mostly on a primitive official server.
I’ve loved Mass Effect, and explored and mined out every little thing so theres a couple hundred there.
I keep coming back to the modded minecraft though, once you get past the clunky engine the sheer level of detail or novel combination in a modpack is very engaging for an engineering brain. Basically building one machine to build a better machine to build a huge machine that does something entirely pointless.
On big hours: Some people spend thousands of hours restoring an old car that’s barely worth the parts cost when it’s done, or painting pictures to sell for a pittance at markets, or taking, editing and printing photographs of places that other people have already taken photos of, or knitting, or scrapbooking, or any number of hobbies, even watching movies and tv series. that’s all socially acceptable but entirely pointless productivity wise, yet there’s a real stigma with spending pointless time in games.
Probably The Evil Within. And Resident Evil Raid Mode 2.0
World of Warcraft by a long shot 415 days which = 9960 hours played
Phantasy Star Online. Especially if you combine the Dreamcast and Gamecube versions.
TF2 just over 2700 according to Gabe. yeah, I’m not proud.
Most of childhood spent playing doom. No counter back then but fuck me I don’t think I’ve ever played anything else more… Still revisit it over 20yrs later!
Its a toss up between fallout 1, Taipan (the realy old game), and Dungeons & Dragons (the book version…not the computer games). I spend most of my time creating. It keeps me going.
There is a small indie game thats been around for a few years now, I’ve been playing since the beta and through modding/custom maps included I would have out in close to 5000 hours into this game if not more, weeks/months at this point. You may have heard of Minecraft?
Also 1500 into Skyrim, 400-600 in both Battlefield 3/4
3/4 Weeks into CoD Mw2/Black Ops
250 hours into Ark Survival Evolved
200+ into DayZ (the mod for Arma II not the ‘released’ version)
close to 400 hours into Diablo III with my partner also.
I spent years playing World of Warcraft, even met my wife through WoW.
These days I think the addiction has mostly switched to World of Tanks. The game just congratulated me on 8000 victories, so that’s at least 16000 games.
I would have to say Morrowind, Skyrim, Fallout 3, Diablo 3, Command and conquer generals, or Goldeneye 64, super smash bros 64. There are a lot of games over the span of my life that I have spent alot of hours on.Those games have taken hours of my life i will never get back..and dont want back. It was worth every second!
500hrs on Destiny? That’s honestly considered normal play time. I’m personally at 1400 hrs. The scale is roughly this.
0-250 is a new player.
250- 500 would be a casual player.
500-750 is a dedicated player.
750-1000 is a engrossed player.
Anything 1000+ Are hardcore players who love Destiny like me. They’re also probably Year 1 players or day 1/beta players.
Doom 2
Doom is life
Doom is love
I let my little sister reset my pokemon Firered with 398 hours on it, not sure if it was the right thing but i got happiness out of seeing her enjoy it. Now its just destiny forever but nooo idea how many hours that has
WoW for sure with most play time, played a little after it came out and lvl cap was 50? never got to 50 but I 1 of each class on both horde and alliance on different servers and they were all closing in on the big 50 then I just couldnt care less about it. Oblivion is probably the game with the most hours and most hours being fun, the quests in that game were so good and diverse. Closely followed by Witcher 3 which I still havnt finished, yeah really need to get back to that.
Just checked my Activity Log on my 3DS, I have 2616 Hours and 49 Minutes in Pokemon X. In contrast, I have 721 Hours in Omega Ruby in 2nd, and 203 Hours in Kingdom Hearts 3D in 3rd. I don’t know how much time I have on other consoles, but I imagine I have a couple hundred hours in Final Fantasy 12 and Kingdom Hearts 2 on the PS2, and over a thousand hours in Pokemon Pearl and Platinum each, since I know I maxed out the clock in both of them.
