Unbeatable Squirrel Girl isn’t just an honest-to-god delight, it loves poking fun at Marvel Comics’ past. The series is getting a brand new original graphic novel, which just so happens to be a wonderful homage to a classic Punisher tale, too.
Announced at C2E2 over the weekend, The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl Beats Up the Marvel Universe comes from the same creative team behind Squirrel Girl’s excellent ongoing series, Ryan North and Erica Henderson. It’s clearly inspired by the original Punisher Kills the Marvel Universe comic, written by Garth Ennis and illustrated by Doug Braithwaite. Now, if you’ve read any Squirrel Girl comics, you know she has a penchant for trumping even the most powerful opponents pretty easily, so taking on the entire Marvel universe shouldn’t pose too much of a problem for her.
Amazing.
But Squirrel isn’t just taking on all of Marvel superheroes — she’s taking on herself. The plot synopsis reveals that the Squirrel Girl doing the beating up is in fact a sinister clone on a rampage:
Proof that we’re living in the best of all possible worlds: THERE’S GONNA BE A SQUIRREL GIRL GRAPHIC NOVEL!
It’s a stand-alone adventure that’s both great for new Squirrel Girl readers, and also for people who ALREADY know about how she can talk to squirrels and also punch really well!
Behold: a story so HUGE it demanded a graphic novel! A story so NUTS that it incorporates BOTH senses of that word (insanity AND the weird hard fruit thingies) (they’re fruits, did you know that?) (I didn’t until I looked them up just now, so looks like we’re all learning science from this solicit text for a comic book!)
Squirrel Girl has defeated Thanos, Galactus, and Doctor Doom. TWICE. But in this all-new graphic novel, she’ll encounter her most dangerous, most powerful, most unbeatable enemy yet: HERSELF.
Specifically, an evil duplicate made possible through mad science (both computer and regular) as well as some Bad Decisions. In other words, SQUIRREL GIRL BEATS UP THE MARVEL UNIVERSE!
This is going to be fantastic. The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl Beats Up The Marvel Universe is due for release in October.

One PUUUUUNNNCCCHH!
“A joke’s still funny if we run it into the ground, right?”
I didn’t, so I looked it up and immediately got very confused. First you have culinary nuts and botanical nuts, but some nuts are actually seeds and some nuts are actually fruits with seeds but sometimes nuts are just fruits but we still call them nuts in a culinary sense. It gets really complex and I don’t really understand what a real nut is anymore. The world I thought I knew is gone and every time I’m in the store looking at a packet of fruit and nuts I’m going to be questioning whether I’m really just buying fruit, fruit, nuts and seeds or fruits and seeds.tl;dr I’m going nuts over nuts.
A squirrel girl graphic novel!? Must BUY!
