Animal Crossing And Fire Emblem Are Getting Mobile Apps

Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem Are Getting Mobile Apps (Update)

Yesterday, Nintendo announced that it's releasing Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem apps for mobile devices. They will be out this spring.

Here's what Nintendo said about the apps in a financial report released yesterday:

Nintendo's Next Mobile Apps: Building on the positive consumer reaction to Miitomo, Nintendo announced that its next two mobile apps would be based on the familiar and beloved Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing franchises. Nintendo plans to release both of these applications this autumn.

As for the former app, while making it more accessible in comparison to the Fire Emblem games for Nintendo's dedicated gaming systems, Nintendo aims to offer the great value of a role-playing strategy game. Nintendo will design the latter game so that it will be connected with the world of Animal Crossing for dedicated gaming systems. By playing both Animal Crossing games, users will find increased enjoyment.

Both of these are pure game applications. Compared to Miitomo, they have more prominent game elements, and the game content will tie closely into Nintendo's dedicated games business. Nintendo will provide more details about these applications closer to their launch period, and aims to have multiple types of apps that appeal to different audiences and different groups of players.

Back in 2015, Nintendo revealed it was entering a "business and capital alliance" with Japanese online giant DeNA. Both companies are working together for a series of apps. The first fruit of this partnership, Miitomo, came out earlier this year.

fire emblem on mobile - sign me up!

As good as Great Little War Game already is, you just can't beat a Fire Emblem game for mobile :O

That thing is gonna sell like hotcakes!

Is this the beginning of the end for hand held DS consoles? turning in favor of smart phones, I guess the market is larger and less an obstacle of sale due to the fact everyone has a phone.

You know what apps I'd like from Nintendo? Miiverse and My Nintendo.
I logged on to the My Nintendo website today, and found out there's "missions" for logging into the eShop and Miiverse once a week, but the rewards have to be claimed on My Nintendo itself. If I had an app that would notify me to go do that, and then show me what rewards were available when I go look, that would drive my engagement with the service.
Similarly with Miiverse, I don't think about going to look and engaging with it except at times where I'm not at one of my three 3DS Wi Fi spots (seriously, that needs fixing too) and the website is a bit cumbersome

Very much looking forward to Fire Emblem for iOS. It's about time we had that these phone platforms were seen as serious for gaming by Nintendo. I think they will be surprised how well they will go. Besides the profits are in software and not hardware, right?
