Good morning TAY!
Good morning. How was your weekend, did you get your on?
mine was good, although I need coffee. Watched rvv last night which was amazing but that meant less sleepy sleep
No pb, but I also did not run any slower despite a 2 week break, so I’m still happy with that. Celebrating the demise of daylight savings and how much easier it will be to convince the small person that it’s bedtime at 6:30. \o/ (he’s been waking me up at 5am the last two mornings)
Beware, Adelaide, this time next week I’ll be in you.
@redartifice @jocon @lucifer9783 @benny
*locks doors*
Freya and I are going to be in Brisbane next weekend. The Lions are playing sportsball. I would like to see the Lions play sportsball. Anyone want to join me watching the Lions play sportsball on Saturday, April 16 at 4:30?
I know @rocketman and @beeawwb were keen. Should probably get tickets sorted soon. Although I doubt Brisbane vs GC is going to be a sellout.
Looking at available seats. Best seats in the upper tier of the Southern stand are $50 (section 60, near the small replay screen).
Alternatively, there’s ground level seats for $38 (section 23). My vote is section 60 by a long shot. Top tier seats are top tier. Well, not as good as the ones near the coaches box but they’re like $130 each.Edit: Talked with my friend who’s going. We’re nabbing those section 60 seats.
Still keen, yep, was actually going to message you this week to check that it was still a go. Wherever we decide works for me, not fussed.
I’m always keen for live sportsball but have a kid’s party that afternoon that I can’t renege on.
Enjoy the game – I still haven’t had a chance to see a game at the Gabba.
I ran yesterday and pushed myself yet I don’t feel too much pain today. It’s my upper body that hurts. I’m probably going to run again today, but maybe late afternoon instead of mid
Wrestlemania is happening. Stardust pulled out a polka dot ladder during the intercontinental title match. Wrestling is fucking awesome.
I got on the train this morning and this girl in a hijab whispers “excuse me”. I’m wondering what’s going on here, is this some kind of beard thing, is she about to try speaking to me in Arabic or something, and lean over to hear what she had to say.
“Your zip’s undone.”
Internally rofl’d 😛
You heathen!
At least she was polite about it
Is this another secret of yours to picking up women? 😛
This is what they call an “ice breaker”, right?
I think so, may as well get the awkward shit over with in the beginning 😛
I just realised my previous post could also be used as a pick-up line.
*grabs popcorn*
Yesterday I played some more RPG stuff and I took magic cocaine to try and gain magical powers. Turns out that didn’t work and I tried to attack my friends because they were shell fiends from the depths of Hell (they looked like giant tortoises but my character hadn’t ever seen tortoises before).
And now I have no more magical cocaine because the rest of my stash was confiscated. Boo-urns.
Yeah, but what happened in the RPG?
A whole bunch of planning and preparation before heading out to tackle a necromancer. We are now destitute but incredibly well decked out for a fight.
Aside from the magic cocaine we were remarkably sensible.
Spent all weekend cleaning because I’m a fucking slob who doesn’t believe in upkeep and have to do a massive clean every four or five weeks. Put my back out vacuuming on Saturday. VACUUMING.
My wife and I have decided our weight loss journey isn’t going to go much further without some proper exercise (walking just isn’t cutting it anymore, plus it’s boring) so we busted out the Kinect and Just Dance 2014. The last achievements we unlocked in that game were in January 2014, ffs. Anyway, a couple of hours later and my back is feeling better but I woke up this morning in agony. I assume this will improve with time but right now it really sucks to be reminded what an old man I am every time I stand up from my chair.
Spoilered because boring
If I recall correctly, there’s a brand new parkrun near you guys at Panania (www.parkrun.com.au/panania) launched only about a month ago. It’s free, it’s 5km, you can walk, jog, shuffle – I’ve seen their most recent results and there are plenty of walkers (You can walk 5km in 45-50min) All you have to do is sign up and get a barcode, then turn up. I know I sound like an evangelist, but as someone who struggles with their weight, and finding exercise that isn’t boring or friggin expensive, I cannot recommend parkrun highly enough. It’s a lovely community event. Thanks for the tip ParkRunMama. 🙂
I think my wife’s arthritis and hip dysplasia will prevent her from participating in a 5K at present (even walking) but I would like very much for us to build up to it. 🙂
They’re always in need of people to volunteer (and the roles are pretty easy, like scanning finish tokens), and volunteers get rewarded too – if you do it 25 times you get a free (very nice) shirt. Runners have to get to 50 before they get their first shirt 🙂 We have a few regular volunteers who love coming to parkrun but don’t do the run bit 🙂
I’ve thought about doing that, but 8am on a Saturday is not a time to get me to do anything
My local has a 7am start. It sucks in winter, but the positive is that you get it all over and done with by breakfast and the rest of the weekend is still ahead. Post-run coffee is the best coffee. ^_^
7am on Saturday *Brain starts screaming*
Funny thing… that’s usually me, even during the work week – I *hate* getting up. I would rather lay in bed until noon. My circadian rhythm is very much shifted towards the night hours.
And yet… I’m missing getting up early on a Saturday morning to go running. It’s flipping insane what dopamine can do.
As much as I like the Telstra network (that 4g is amazing where I am) that free data day yesterday was the biggest load of shit. It was no faster than my home ADSL2 connection at 700kb/s… It didn’t really bother me anyway since I didn’t have anything to download, but personally i’d rather a discount on my plan, even if it was only 10 bucks i’d be happy.
I hardly left the house yesterday so I forgot it was a free data day. I was just using my unlimited wifi instead.
Haha. I have so much data on my home internet I don’t even care, hell I have more than enough on my phones plan so yeah.
Damn does Salt & Sanctuary need a save point a LOT closer to the final boss. You have to do a lot of annoying and potentially lethal platforming to get back to the boss, inevitably losing a moderate amount of health on the way from fall damage and just being annoying to get back to. It’s a weird design choice given that most of the bosses have a shrine or sanctuary fairly close with a reasonably safe path (excluding monsters) to get back to them.
Otherwise it’s a rather good game, definitely worth a go if you like dark souls & ghosts & goblins since it’s basically a straight mashup of the two games.
Last night some friends were having a discussion about the whole Alison Rapp thingo, and about internet hate mobs in general etc. All sorts of horrible stuff. Right after it died down, I flicked over to Wingman’s convo and found she’d linked this to me:
http://shenko.tumblr.com/post/142084388413/garbage-senpai-conallcd117-moredepth
Watching this, I just instantly felt happy. I’m honestly gonna bookmark this, to keep as a future cure-all for the angries.
“Everybody just chill the fuck out and dance!”
Cease your whining, TAY, for I have returned! I know, I know, it’s been a tough 2 weeks, but hush children because it’s all over now.
So Hong Kong is pretty great, but hella expensive. I paid $17 AU for a coffee, and it hurt me a little inside. The apartments there are tiny, and I slept on the most uncomfortable bed of all time. Also, I am pretty sure my liver is on the verge of failing, having been through a birthday, and wedding and two bucks parties in the last 2 weeks.
But overall, it was awesome. 5/7 would party again.
Ugh.
Watching a video from TechSource on Vessel titled ‘Most Overpriced Tech’ and there’s now a kickstarter or something for beer made from bacteria from a models vagina. Why.. Just why..
Yeah, yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn’t stop to think if they should.
Oh god… So many horrible and unspeakable jokes and puns are racing through my head right now.
Hi, TAY.
Waiting for Dark Souls 3 next week.
It’s the sort of game I’m terrible at, but enjoy nonetheless.
Also, I’d been tossing up whether to get Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U, but I think I’ll pass on it.
Most of the weekend was spent setting up the new PC. Managed to successfully get my foot in the win10 door, then was going through trying to figure out how to configure everything and get it all how I like it. Some of the UI stuff on it is so shit though. And so few options in the personalisation section, can’t figure out how to get something that looks good. Almost got there by importing my win98 style theme from my win7 machine, but I can’t get the border colour to be quite nice enough and the text in the start bar turns black and unreadable no matter what I do. Annoying. Dug up a bunch of other things to change or revert via registry entries, so that was good. Then finally got around to installing the Oculus software, and grabbing all the free stuff from the store. Not long now, just need to get the actual headset! *refreshes inbox again*
Oh yeah, over the weekend they announced they were covering everyone’s shipping costs for all the orders so far, because of the delays. Doesn’t affect me at all, but any AU/NZ customers would be cheering pretty hard right now.
Also had Aerialist break the week-long silence last night to announce that she had new climbing shoes. I’d kinda forgotten that was a thing 😛
… why would you want it to look like Windows 98?
Because it’s the best. And safe and familiar and stuff 😛
And imo way better than the default look of win10. Everything’s so bland and washed out, I’d rather it even look like default win7.
Meanwhile in Canada
nothing
nothing is happening
that’s uh, that’s my life right now.
You have an awesome prime minister though. The rest of the western world is mad with jealousy.
ohmigosh wait
we got snow here
in spring
and no one at all was surprised
I know there a few book readers amongst TAY – has anyone read A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara?
I finished it on Saturday afternoon. I don’t think a book has ever made me cry before. This book made me cry on half a dozen occasions. It’s a long read and has copped a fair bit of criticism for how brutal and unforgiving (and sometimes unbelievable ) the story is. It left me emotionally drained for a full day after I’d finished.
I have a handful of books I’ll happily recommend to people and this book now holds a place amongst them.
So it seems like there’s a few people working towards some fitness goals – perhaps it’s time for another TAY Fitocracy challenge?
Henceforth named CookingMama’s Calisthenic/Cardio Campaign.
Because alliteration!
Crikey! Can comprehend calling CookingMama’s Callisthenic/Cardio Campaign crazy compounds.
I love it. I think @redartifice needs to make this happen
Hey, ICWUDT.
I haven’t looked at Fitocracy for months
I think it’s been a year since I last used it, but now summer’s over, I think I can manage some weights workouts 😛
Excellent. I shall begin by cycling home from work, now.
Morning all.
My weekend was kinda cool, as some may know if they read over the weekend, or follow me elsewhere. Not the greatest weekend ever, but not bad considering I barely left the house!
Question though… does anyone else have issues with the upvote buttons in here? Sometimes they just don’t seem to do anything at all, other times they’ll work first go, and other times I have to click them like 5 or 6 times before they work.
/edit I clicked 3 prior to making this post, and nothing happened, but after the post and page refresh, it shows that my upvotes are actually there.. this happen to anyone else?)
Get that occasionally but normally I only need to click it twice when it happens
heh clicked the upvote on your comment, and it worked first go! 😉
Yeah, it’s been like that for me for a while. I feel like there was some kind of update point a while back where it started, but can’t think what it was. It’s annoying.
Though not as annoying as being completely unable to vote at all on Giz or LH :/
Yea, I noticed that last week on Giz – I just presumed it was because I was under moderation over there… which is a whole separate issue that I don’t understand.
I had that for a while too, everything I posted went into insta-moderation. But then I eventually managed to work myself out of that state, but the vote buttons remain greyed out.
Hope everyone had a great weekend! Drifted off The Division this past week, now my character’s in full yellows and doing pretty well in challenge missions, but ended up with nothing much to play. I could continue with my Pokemon OR restart, but still find it hard to play handheld games when my PC and console are sitting not ten feet away, like forlorn puppies whimpering their list of games I should probably get around to finishing at some point.
So I ended up sinking back into Witcher 3 – I’d forgotten how engaging that game can be… and it was really easy to drop back into. Started around 59 hours in – finally made it to Skellige. Resolved the central side-plot thread there, then started wandering around doing sidequests and contracts. Had a lot of fun doing some of the level 27-30 contracts at level 20-22 – effective use of oils, potions and liberal application of Quen kept me alive. Had to abandon one that locked me in a small cave with two endrega, tho, as they seemed to be able to land hits from a few feet outside their apparent physical reach, and Quen couldn’t really protect me from their double-swipe attacks (if both hit me with both swipes at the same time, they’d kill me immediately, Quen or not). Tried to beat them for about an hour before giving it up until I’d levelled a bit more… pity, cos it seems like an interesting plot thread.
Now 73 hours in, planning to head back to Nilfgaard to finish off some contracts and do more exploring, levelling and hopefully getting high enough to come back to Skellige and finish the 35+ contracts… then maybe investigate the Hearts of Stone questline; good thing Ciri can look after herself, cos Geralt will likely be otherwise occupied for another (in-game) month or two at least. 😛
Likely longer IRL, given Dark Souls 3 releases in eight days…
DO YA LOOOOOVE ME?
Do ya love me?
Pretty great earworm to have.
Nick Cave?
Whoever’s behind the one in this thing: http://shenko.tumblr.com/post/142084388413/garbage-senpai-conallcd117-moredepth
Funny, for all the times I’ve heard it I don’t think I’ve ever actually known who it’s by.
Yeah, that is not Nick Cave. This is the one I was thinking of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJTjsVSzQ1Q
Ah man, I think I’ve hit another gaming slump. I started playing Lost Planet 3, but the gameplay was putting me off, plus I just did the whole ice planet in Dead Space 3 and it left me offended. Then I tried playing Rage, but I spent a full month playing Fallout 4, so I’m a little burnt out on a Wasteland survival game (same reason why I can’t finish Wasteland 2 at the moment). So instead I just played Sonic 1.
and I blame Dark Souls 3! My facebook yearly anniversary is indicating that it’s been a year since I played Bloodborne, which is why Dark Souls should be out! No reason why it had to be delayed. I can just hope for an Australian street release break.
I’m also looking for some co-op players, I have a large collection of co-op games that I need to play.
Play the Bloodborne DLC, problem solved!
(I’m up against the final boss and he is mean)
I’m playing Salt and Sanctuary. Which probably isn’t a good idea because I don’t want to get burned out on this style of game before the next big one comes.
Went to a reptile show. There were many reptiles. All of the lizards were brilliant; geckos were especially brilliant.
I did wonder how many people buying juvenile pythons realise that snakes get big.
I doubt most people buying cats/dogs realise its a 15 year commitment or parrot are a 30+ year one, if they did abandonment wouldn’t be such an issue or they do realise it and simply haven’t grasped its true gravity.
I know it sucks to think about.
Which is why I went with spiny leaf insects. Incredibly easy to look after, females live 18 months on average, males for 6-9, and they’re adorable as a really adorable thing.
I’m not much for thinking that pets are part of the family but they certainly deserve respect and care far beyond an impulse purchase.
Also, old dogs are the best, everyone should adopt old dogs.
All I wanted as a kid was a pet children’s python… Was very disappointed (albeit briefly) when my parents got a puppy, instead.
Did you call the dog Snake?
Hmm, thought about an MGS joke but it was a lot more morbid than anticipated.
So it’s @freezespreston & @sughly’s birthday, if I hadn’t seen both in the same room i’d be convinced they’re both the same person. Happy birthday guys.
Danke!
No problemo!
Happy birthday guys
I’m so glad everyone else is getting old like me now! 😛
Happy Birthdays Freeze and Sughly!
Hello!
1: Nier is still one of the most awesome games of all time.
2: Where’s @shane’s countdown to Dark Souls 3? Surely having like a billion kids now can’t be that exhausting? 😛
3: I spent all morning binge watching Unreal on Stan and now that I’ve stopped I can’t remember why I was so compelled in the first place. Sorcery!
4: I am currently obsessed with a band called Fogalord. It’s a stupid name, but I’m addicted to their music.
5: I have a broken toe.
There. Now you’re all caught up with my life. Miss me? 😀
Hi @strange!
1. I can’t hear “Nier” without thinking it sounds like a child taunting someone in a playground
2. 8 DAYS (I’m on the bandwagon this time, now having played Bloodborne)
5. How did you break your toe?
1: Nobody ever says “Nier” in the game, so you could safely play it….
2: I’m scared I’ll be crap at Dark Souls 3 like I was crap at Bloodborne. But it’s still a day one purchase.
3: I was walking fast from the kitchen to elsewhere in the house and misjudged the corner of the kitchen by about 2 inches (I think in inches now…it’s a symptom of quilting:P ),thus slamming my foot into the corner of the skirting board, breaking my middle toe. It’s been close to four weeks now and it still hurts which is how I know it’s broken. I didn’t see a doctor because I’m a doofus.
Oh, I’m crap at Bloodborne, but have somehow made it this far through sheer bloody-mindedness.
Figure with Dark SOuls I will do the same
Also, ouch, that sounds painful.
Doctors are too much effort. And then when you finally bring yourself to go they’re all like “nah we’re closed for Easter”. And then you try next week and it turns out the hours you looked up were wrong and they were closed again. And this is why I shouldn’t have bothered in the first place.
…Hi Strange!
Hi Tacoman!
Err…do I want to ask what happened to you that your doctor anecdote was so disturbingly detailed?!
Eh some medical thing that I should’ve gotten off my arse to see someone about ages ago but didn’t. Nothing life-threatening 😛
Oh good. Is it sorted now?
Please don’t die, that would suck!
I have no plans to do any such thing any time soon. Got too much else to do!
Of course we missed you.
How did you break your toe, too much butt kicking?
Not sold on the singers voice and but liking the music when they aren’t trying to be too fast
I made the mistake of watching the video for ‘The Scream Of The Thunder’and it almost made me not give them a go (I believe I tweeted something along the lines of “put a shirt on you doofus!”). But they have a sword in their logo! A sword! How could I not give them another go?! The song “The Fog Lord” is the one that hooked me.
See above for boring toe story. 🙂
I saw a pic when I googled there name and it was very much shirtless but they did have a sword in it as well. My main thought was that in to what I imagine Italians to be like
The scream of thunder is pretty awesome as well
I’m all for the sword!
…
In the old days that would have immediately prompted innuendo and hilarity for many. 😛
Is Fogalord suitably power-metal-y?
Speaking of metal, I am super pissed off that Crowbar in Brisbane opened a month after I moved to Sydney. I went there for the first time on Saturday night (OK FINE IT WAS TECHNICALLY SUNDAY MORNING) and that please is freaking sweet – mad tunes, fun people, and they have a signed Russian Circles poster on the wall so those kids are alright in my books.
The most suitable of power metal-y cheesy epicness. Follow the Fog! 😛
I’ve been to the Crowbar once. I would have loved it when I was younger. They served me the most disgusting drink I’ve ever had in my life. I ordered a vodka and Coke, and I’m pretty sure they just scooped up whatever was in their drip trays and gave that to me instead.
Also, what led to you ending up at the Crowbar?
Mate’s bucks party. The fact that it was right next to the Cabaret Club had nothing to do with it.
My friend scored first beer served when they opened. I scored first ginger beer served 😛
2. I’m busy trying to plat Demon’s Souls! It’s been a long time coming, but that’s what I’m working on. Probably won’t be able to afford DS3 for a while, so this is my compromise.
Sorry to hear about your toe 🙁
6. Yes.
Thinking I might buy Dark Souls 3 on release day along with the fanatics (you know who you are!) – could be fun to not be able to get any advice from people who have played through it well before me.
Might wait a day or so just for the PC impressions to come out first though. Don’t want to fall into an Arkham Knight scenario (have to go PC this time – didn’t get to play any of Bloodborne online because you need to have PS+ just to see a few messages appear on the ground :P)
The PC version (well, the JP one) has been out for a couple of weeks, as has the press version… It sounds like there aren’t too many issues, but yea, always smart to wait for post-patch performance problem particularisation.*
*I was just going to say “post-patch performance reviews,” but then I noticed the alliteration and had to continue it. 😛
I’m going to get it on PS4 and wait until they release the GOTY version for PC cheap. Buuuuuuuuuut if you don’t have PS+ then you’re probably better off getting it on PC
Don’t have PS+ AND refuse to get it! It’s the principle of the thing! Or something!
So far I’ve done Demon’s, Dark, Dark 2 and Blood on PlayStation on release day, and then PC copies for co-op shenanigans further down the line.
Given the potential inevitability of 2 PC copies in the house, I don’t know whether to just go straight to PC and hope my GPU can handle it, or to stick to the regular process of a release playthrough on the ‘primary platform’ for a From release.
May as well go PC if you don’t already have PS+. Technically cheaper! 😛
Plus GMG have a $10 off thing.
Might have to buy a new graphics card to do that… Might not be cheaper.
What’s the Aussie tax price coming in at for us?
It’s currently US$50 on GMG (Google tells me this is A$65*), but their April 20% code doesn’t seem to apply for it.
*The hell is this sorcery? Last time I checked the exchange rate, we were down at the 65c mark. Initiate celebratory arm-flailing!
Probably best to get on PC anyway. I’ve heard there are some major framerate/performance dips on PS4. Similar to Bloodborne’s loading screens issue – that kind of thing can really start setting your teeth on edge when you’re dying all the time and forced to sit through it.
Good idea! You’re not just a pretty face!
The pretty face is a big percentage, but it’s not the only thing, no. 🙂
There was a reasonable work around for that loading screen issue.
Getting good.
Tssssssss, burrrn.
derrrk seeerrrrrlllssss
Guys, i need some advice. I want to do some running do I suddenly started feeling a little nauseous and a little over heated. I’m not sure if I should continue, scale back, or leave it completely.
I’m also not sure if it’s my anxiety playing up, but I have no heart palpitations
Slow down a little bit.
That can happen, it probably means you’re trying to hit too fast a pace without enough warm up your body is going “OH SHIT SPRINT MODE” too quickly.
Go back to a lighter jog for a bit, then ramp it back up.
FWIW, it’s for this reason I run on my treadmill primarily, I’m horrible at self-pacing. I run faster outside, but my pace is all over the place.
I haven’t even started running yet. I was playing with Sid when I suddenly felt unwell. I’m still feeling unsettled in the stomach
Could just be a garden variety anxiety thing then?
You run pretty close to home, yeah? Go for your run, take it easy, and if you feel crook, def stop.
I was thinking that, but I went from hot to cold. I’m not sure what’s going on as I haven’t really eaten much since lunch.
I might just walk and see how I go. I feel less like anxiety and more like IBS
I felt quite heavy footed so I ended up walking. I then stood around chatting to other dog owners
Walking is a good idea if you get the weird unsettled stomach thing. I get that when running, apparently my running motion is a little too up and down and not enough shuffle, so my internals get shaken up and I can be queasy-ish a day or two after running.
I’m crap at it and have gone over to cycling.
I think as long as I don’t push myself too hard, I should be fine
What did you eat in the morning? How much are you drinking before, during and after exercising (too much can be as bad as too little)? You should try and get a more qualified opinion from someone else, but it’s not uncommon to feel sick/nauseous even to the point of vomiting. When you exercise it’s not just a case of the muscles you use getting worn out. The changes in blood flow for instance can impact organs that you wouldn’t normally associate with physical activity.
I don’t think there are any long term health concerns linked to that but it can have some whacky results particularly early on when your body has no idea what’s going on. With any luck it will naturally pass but there might be a few things to do that will eliminate it right away. For instance if you’re eating a big dry breakfast it might be as simple as changing that.
I think it was the warm weather made my body freak out a little.
I will be running today in the late afternoon
Let’s do better this week, ok.
This is going to be a better week.
How are you gonna top being front page news on ninemsn?
Err, did I miss something..?
You didn’t hear about the porpoise?
No..? Am I being set up for a joke here? 😛
Yes.
Figures 😛
Oh good, someone who knows something!
Spill, cos he won’t 😛
I know what it is, but I won’t spill unless @liondrive gives the okay.
After it has died down a bit :O
That wasn’t good!
That was very not good! :’O
Hey, Pablo.
Okay, so after dinner with my parents, I may have mentioned our “In My Ass” game to them.
My mother found it quite jovial.
With that said,
IN MY ASS!
How Soon Is Now In My Ass?
Bottle caps in my ass
Ouch, that sounds painful
Fire Or Knife in my ass.
Decision, decisions…. /o\
Damn having a three year old..
Big Red Car In My Ass.
That sounds even more painful than mine
Faithfully Remain In My Ass.
It’s time for another round of…
NegativeZero’s Anime Impressions
Watching the new season so you don’t have to
Brotherhood: Final Fantasy XV
Technically this isn’t part of the new season but it’s anime and launched at the same time. We don’t know the schedule yet. 12 minutes long and feels like it’s a abridged chunk of part of the game. Not much happens. The boy band have burgers and camp out and then kill some robots and there’s a giant snake monster lady at the end. 12 minutes long. Feels like you’d be better off waiting for the game to be released to be honest, this barely felt like it made sense without it. Doubt I’ll watch the next one.Ace Attorney
I’m not a massive fan of Phoenix Wright but I still had some reasonably high expectations for this. Has some potential, at least. Turns out that Phoenix Wright just doesn’t make the transition to anime gracefully. There’s nothing I can really point at and say “this is why it failed” but it feels like it’s basically aping the game throughout. Very rushed feeling to it. And the memes (OBJECTION etc) that work so well in the game really feel awkward in an anime. The games were always very silly but seeing it this way really underscores just how dumb it is. 🙁 Adding to this for me was the cognitive dissonance of being able to understand most of the Japanese, meaning that I was hearing ‘Naruhodo-kun’ and so on but seeing ‘Nick’ in the subtitles, for example. I knew this would be an issue going in but hadn’t prepared myself for how jarring it’d be. I strongly suspect that this might be better with a proper English dub instead, and that’s one of the few times you’ll ever see me saying that. Anyway, disappointing and will probably drop it.Kuma Miko
Cute comedy show about a 14-year-old girl, Machi, who lives in a tiny rural village and is the Miko (priestess) of a shrine where a bear is venerated. The bear (Natsu) is super friendly. And walks around in two legs and talks. They have a sort of brother-sister dynamic going on which works quite well. Anyway, the first episode was mainly introductory but the plot appears to be that Machi is bored living in the sticks and wants to go to high school in the city, but she’s such a yokel that Natsu thinks it’s impossible for her so he begins to set her a series of trials to prove she’s capable. I kind of liked this. It has some potential. Probably will be a slow burn. The studio behind it did stuff like Yuyushiki and Barakamon which have a similar feel. But the first episode was real average. Going to give it a bit of time to see how it develops.Space Patrol Luluco
One of two shows this season from Studio Trigger. I wish they’d let Imaishi have a budget. 4 minute episodes seem a waste of his ability. It looks like he might have keyframed the whole show though which is pretty cool even though a lot of the time it’s like 1 frame per second. His animation still oozes style (Hiroyuki Imaishi is the guy behind the look and feel of Gurren Lagann. Panty & Stocking and Kill la Kill). Luluco lives in a Japanese town where there are aliens everywhere. Her dad is a Space Cop. During breakfast he accidentally eats confiscated Space Pills that turn him into a block of ice, and when she takes him to work, the boss of the Space Police (an alien who’s head is a burning skull wearing rad shades – basically the Gurren Lagann logo – called OVER JUSTICE) sets Luluco up to take her Dad’s place as a Space Cop so she can pay off the cost of unfreezing her father. This show is fucking nuts, by the way. I love the style of it and wish it was more substantial. Especially if it turns out that Trigger’s actual big TV thing this time (Kiznaiver) is a steaming shit like their previous TV series. Will watch more and see how it goes.Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu
Light novel adaption. Going into the season I had my eye on this as there was some buzz around the novels, which actually have been licensed for English translation ahead of the release of the anime which very rarely happens (normally companies like Vertical and Yen Press have been licensing light novels only if the anime was popular). Anyway, the initial setup is one of those stop-me-if-you-think-you’ve-heard-this-one-before things. The main character, Subaru, is a shut-in nerd that finds himself suddenly transported to a fantasy world one day. While there, he meets a pretty girl with white hair who introduces herself as Satella. She’s searching for an emblem which was stolen by another girl, Felt. In the process of trying to track Felt down, the two of them find themselves brutally murdered by someone… and then time resets and Subaru finds himself back where he first arrived in the other world with full memory of what had occurred previously, but a chance to do it over again. Every time he dies, he resets from Zero. It’s an interesting concept and the first episode seemed really promising so this is looking like a regular for me.Macross Delta
I’m still undecided on this. Basically it’s the same episode that aired back in December, but with the final couple of minutes added in, the animation quality improved, and some of the flatter sounding lines re-recorded. Macross has always been a bit silly with music stuff but this might be taking it a bit too far. Not sure yet. The mecha action is really good, the magical girl idol crap maybe not so much. They did this massive talent search to cast the main character Freyja and yet they ended up with someone that sounds almost identical to Megumi Nakajima, so it feels like we ended up with Frontier’s Ranka all over again, especially when the other leads all feel like carbon copies of their Frontier counterparts as well. But that might not be a bad thing, Macross Frontier was great. The opening tune is boring as shit but the ending, Ikenai Borderline, is still as much of an earworm as it was the first time we heard it in trailers. Looking forward to that single releasing. Also, this will never be available to stream. Despite dubious claim to it, the only creative part of Harmony Gold, i.e. their Lawyers, have seen to it that there can never be anything Macross related released in English because they’re a pack of shits. As such, the only way to watch this right now is via naughty subs. It’s almost guaranteed never to be streamed as long as Harmony Gold are around. I’m looking forward to watching some more episodes of this, seeing how it goes. It has a lot of potential and I hope it doesn’t squander it. Especially since it looks like the series’ Japanese blurays will be subtitled – if the show turns out well, then those BDs will be mine.Current viewing priority queue (expect impressions of some or all of these tomorrow)

I really hope there’s a good long-running Shounen that turns up. Fairy Tail ended last week and since 2014 it had been pretty good at filling the gap left by Hunter x Hunter ending. Now there’s nothing. 🙁
So Fairy Tail actually ended ended? I assumed it was one of those drag in forever shows.
Speaking of, I quite enjoyed Gundam IBO last season. What other Gundam shows would you recommend checking out?
It’s oh hiatus. It didn’t really end per se. It’s just gotten quite close to catching up with the manga so they’re letting it run ahead rather than killing the show with shitty filler. It’ll be coming back again eventually and when it does, apparently Hiro Mashima’s going to be involved directly with the writing team so when they do decide to do filler, at least it’ll be filler by the original author.
In terms of Gundam, IBO was a weird show. It’s not got a lot in common with earlier Gundam.
The thing with Gundam is that the shows are often a product of their time. Some of them have aged really badly. Sometimes the plots are fine but the animation’s gone to crap. Others, the animation’s fine but the actual writing is dated. So like, you could go back to the original or Zeta but if you don’t go in realizing that it dates from the mid-70s when the state of the art was shouty super robot stuff like Getter Robo, you’d be extremely bored.
I don’t know if you’re familiar with the Gundam timelines, but basically, the ‘core’ Gundam timeline is Universal Century, which starts with the original and includes 08th MS Team, War in the Pocket, Stardust Memory, Zeta, Double-Zeta (ZZ), F-91, Unicorn, Victory and a few others.
Then there’s the alternate universes: G-Gundam, Wing / Endless Waltz, X, Seed / Seed Destiny, 00, Age, Iron Blooded Orphans.
And then there’s Turn-A Gundam which is special – its premise is that Gundam is a never-ending cycle, all the alternative universes and the original timeline happened at some point and the end of each timeline, humanity reduces itself to the stone age. People dig up mobile suits from various eras and use them again.
A lot of it doesn’t hold up. I think probably Gundam Seed holds up okay. It was conceived originally as being a do-over of the original Gundam, trying to be a more accessible starting point. The issue it has is mainly that the animation is very dated. Don’t watch the sequel, Seed Destiny, as it is shit on a biscuit.
Wing holds a special place in a lot of fans hearts because it was the first Gundam to be localized and broadcast and it has some of the coolest designs in the franchise (especially in Endless Waltz) but it’s generally a shitty show that’s twice as long as it should be, and it doesn’t hold up.
X is hard to get hold of in English. It’s okay but it got canned before it finished. 🙁 G-Gundam is great fun but it’s very silly and it’s a super robot show not a classic Gundam. 00 started okay and then went to crazytown about halfway in and turned to utter nonsense. Age is Gundam for ten year olds and it’s shit.
I like Turn-A a lot but it’s highly unconventional, slow-paced and written by Tomino so you get characters randomly killed and you’re expected to care. Also people slag the Turn-A’s design because it’s got a Moustache and it was designed by a -gasp- American (Syd Mead!) but that’s all irrelevant because Yoko Kanno Soundtrack.
In Universal Century, the original timeline, most of the entries are turds. There’s one very notable exception: The 08th MS Team. I’d describe it as being to Gundam what the X-Wing novels were to Star Wars. Follows an everyday platoon of mass-produced Gundams fighting in various locations but without the stupidity of Newtypes and magic particles that bend physics and everything. Very high production values due to it being an OVA series. Takes a bit of a shift toward the silly toward the end though because the director of the earlier episodes died in a car crash. 🙁 But it’s still very good.
The real answer though: Gundam Build Fighters. It’s better at Gundam than Gundam is while dropping the pretense and just being straight with everyone: Gundam anime is all about the plastic model kits. Build Fighters is basically about kids building custom plastic models that can move when you put them in a special play space. Tournaments are fought. It’s equal parts Gundam and Pokemon and it’s fucking awesome.
So basically I was justified in ignoring all things Gundam up till now. Suits me.
Yeah, down with Macross. Could never get far with Do You Remember Love though, still pretty dated.
DYRL is better if you’ve seen the original. The main issue is that it glosses over stuff. I think the conceit of that movie is it’s meant to be a movie dramatization of the original story in that fictional universe, though visually the subsequent material references it instead of the original Macross (stuff like the Zentradei appearance and their language – “Deculture” etc)
P.S. Macross is way better than Gundam. All of Macross’ original stuff holds up pretty well for its age. Do You Remember Love is astoundingly well animated. Plus is great, Zero is reasonable. Frontier was very good and 7’s soundtrack is still rad.
I felt Phoenix Wright was almost too goofy and over the top even in comparison to the games, which I was surprised at. I also simply cannot get into Naruhodo’s voice as it doesn’t sound like it fits the character very well. I don’t know the VA but he sounds familiar enough that his voice doesn’t sound like what I imagined Phoenix to sound like and I’m not buying into him very much as a result.
I agree that the dub version will likely be the way to go.
Yuuki Kaji. You probably remember him shouting a lot about killing Titans as Eren Jaeger or being a simpering shit as Hope in FFXIII if you played that with JP dialogue. He’s done a ton of stuff though so yeah, he’s got one of those voices.
Oh, they’re using the localised Ace Attorney names in the subtitles? Kinda surprised they’d bother considering how different they are.
EDIT: Not watching any anime at the moment but the first officially translated Baccano novel comes out next month. Little bit excited.
I’ve got it preordered \o/
Durarara is 3 volumes in and 4th one is soonish too I think. I’ve been on a big light novel buying spree recently because I can get them for like $8 a volume.
They’re doing a hardcover release, right?
The only other light novels I own are the Haruhi ones and I’ve always kinda regretted not getting the hardbacks of those 😛
Yeah I believe it’s hardcover.
The only other hardcover LNs I know of aside from the old Twelve Kingdoms books (fuck I wish I’d bought those – they sell for > $100 each now!) is the Another novel, and the upcoming release of Overlord. Oh, and Reki Kawahara’s ‘The Isolator’ is hardcover for both volumes so far.
Brotherhood:
12min long and 3min of it is credits? Short-form pretending it isn’t? I think there’s only supposed to be 6 ‘episodes’ or something, too. We’ll end up with one decent-sized ‘episode’ by the time it’s done. I’ll watch it before playing the game/watching the movie, but only when it’s all done. On the plus side, I already got a shit-load of background lore in just from the first ep, though. More than provided by the trailers. That’s really helping with world-building to appreciate going into FF15. (Unlike FF14 where I spent an hour and a half reading the ugly-ass codex to try get a better feel for the world.)Kuma Miko:
Yeah, not bad. Seems like there might end up being a plot there, somewhere underneath the awkward humour and over-acting. Viewer feedback from ep one might result in some better pacing down the track. Wasn’t expecting it to go so adult, though. Not sure about that.Endride:
I got an Escalflowne type vibe from this one, so out of respect to nostalgia I’m going to try ignore a bunch of the problems I have with its stilted storytelling. I recently watched a critical breakdown of Terror in Resonance’s direction and visual storytelling, which – fresh in my mind – doesn’t do any favours to much anything I watch afterwards.Previous seasons:
Except… Dimension W.
I cannon-balled the first four eps of this as soon as I was hooked by the first. I really like this one from last season and will probably devour it far too quickly to fill in any waiting-period gaps for this season.Heavy Object:
Another last season that I’ve watched too many eps of, at 4. Look, I was happy enough with the basic concept of the first three eps, but they should’ve ended it on that awkward but forgivable notes. Now it’s just unforgivably stupid. It hurts my brain that this is basically a ‘military’ anime about a world where two idiots come up with the idea of special forces commando/infiltrator units and the rest of the damn world has forgotten that such units ever existed, let alone essentially win wars. I can’t manage the suspension of disbelief required to sustain the very platform the entire premise rests on. Which is a shame because otherwise I mostly enjoyed the character interactions, design, art, and pacing. I might watch more, despite myself.Heavy Object is also misogynist as fuck, and given that we’re talking about anime that’s saying something. I got further than you did. It doesn’t improve.
It’s weird that it’s the same guy that wrote Index / Railgun since those are so good.
That fourth ep was just so damn on the nose. Four eps is usually the point at which I consider myself committed through investment, but if it only gets worse… in my mind they ended it at ep 3.
That is so weird that it’s the same writer. I wonder if there’s a story there about external influences/unwanted pressure.
Oh yeah, I clocked Shovel Knight during my trip. That game is rad, but it reminded me why I don’t play platformers – I may have told my girlfriend to fuck off on the plane after she intentionally got me killed fighting Specter Knight (who was annoying as hell), and very nearly threw my 3DS across the airplane cabin after Black Knight murdered me for the billionty-th time during the final fight with him.
However, I am a glutton for punishment and am now playing through Plague of Shadows. It is also rad.
intentionally??????
What is not good for a long flight. Assume she was after some of your attention
She saw I was concentrating very intently, and decided to knock my arms to mess me up. I was less than pleased, I made my feelings apparent, she became less than pleased…
… then the drinks service started, and everything was fine again =D
Nah that’s not cool. You were totally in the right 😛
I watched the 15 minutes of uncharted 4 and now I want uncharted 4.
Crap.
I finished Uncharted 3 and want Uncharted 4.
I finished Uncharted 3 and never wanted to play another Naughty Dog game ever again.
Well you’ve missed out because The Last of Us was great.
So people tell me. I’d happily watch someone else play it but the gameplay sounds like everything I hated about Uncharted 3, made worse.
There was a cinematics-only youtube series which condensed the gameplay parts to only the relevant shootybits that might actually give insight, but skipped most of it in favour of story-only bits.
Best way to experience the game. It really needs to be something that came on the disc, in my opinion; a cinematic edit.
Probably the best way to experience the original; there are some sequences in there that just aren’t fun to play through (something they managed to largely fix with 2, I felt).
I liked Uncharted 1 but yeah, there were some combat bits which were actively anti-fun. Even Uncharted 2 has some ropey parts. But Uncharted 3 was just an utterly miserable gameplay experience where every area was a kill room with two waves of the same boring enemies, the guns were re-tuned for multiplayer so every enemy was a damage sponge, and the AI’s approach was to charge you, spam grenades at you the instant you went behind cover, and all focus-fire you if you ever weren’t in cover. The only way to successfully beat each combat area was to, by painstaking trial and error, figure out where the enemies that dropped one-hit kill sniper weapons were or sometimes where those weapons were cached and use them up.
The rest of it’s really good but fuck the game part of Uncharted 3 so hard. They’d basically unwound the combat quality so it felt worse than the first game.
I think @transientmind was talking about The Last of Us though. After the utterly miserable time I had playing Uncharted 3, combined with the fact I absolutely loathe trial and error, instant-loss stealth, and zones where the designer expects you to do exactly what they wanted but doesn’t telegraph it properly, and TLoU has all three of those issues which very much puts me off playing them, even if the cutscenes are okay.
I’ve played through the entire series so I was already going to pick it up. Pretty keen for it!
Edit: wrong post
I don’t have a ps4 though D=
What a morning. Almost slept in. Forgot to put on deodorant, which is exacerbated by the fact I have to wear a suit for my interview today. Then I forgot my Opal card so I had to walk back home to get it and miss my “early” train, which I was catching in an effort to not be inconvenienced by the recurring delays and last minute changes to stopping order that happen all to frequently. Of course this morning there was another last minute change to stopping order with the train going in the reverse direction around the city circle (museum first instead of town hall). the train guard had the nerve to say “for today only” even though it happened yesterday, and twice last week, and four times the week before that. At this point the train is wrong more often than it’s right, and in addition this morning it skipped a stop so fuck anyone living at Campsie who wanted to get to work on time today, I guess.
Then as my train rolled into Museum station I noticed fingernails, fucking FINGERNAILS on the windowsill next to me, because some grub had decided to cut their nails on the train, but was enough of a neat freak to put them in a neat little pile instead of letting them litter the floor, but still enough of a slob to fucking leave them there for me to see and share on social media.
What a morning.
I hope there is a fabulous coffee shop near your work, sounds like you need one.
I’m not allowed coffee. Too much caffeine can disrupt the VLCD I’m doing with my wife before her gall bladder surgery.
Ooh, a bus! *dives*
At least they let you on! I was 10c short on my opal for the bus trip this morning, and I only had $50’s in my wallet. The bus driver said ‘sorry, I have no change, get off my bus’, then took off.
0/10 would ride again.
Christ that’s ridiculous, usually when you give them a $50 note they just let you on for free. What an a-hole.
I know right!? Thankfully this time the following bus was only a few minutes behind, so I had time to duck into the IGA around the corner and top up and wasn’t late for work, but still… I was fuming.
What a douche. Thankfully my station doesn’t have ticket gates so Opal more or less runs on the honour/fear of transit officers system.
Was going to post something when I was suddenly interrupted by Max bringing all three of her mouse toys to me and meowing, before picking one up in her mouth.
I think she’s trying to tell me something… 😛
“You’re next”?
‘WHY IS THIS HUMAN SMILING WHEN I AM THREATENING HIS LIFE!?’
Edit: Posting this reminded me of my favourite evil villain laugh of all time, and I wanted to share it with all of you.
Discovered last night that the keyboard shortcuts for win10 are screwed. In the right-click menu, R has always been the shortcut for Properties. And if I click on blank space in Explorer, it still is! But if I actually click on a file, it is now O. Why. WHY.
There doesn’t seem to be any kind of fix or even much in the way of mentioning of it, except one or two posts suggesting changing your language to English US instead (didn’t work) or installing the US ISO instead of the UK one. Ugh.
If I right click on a file in explorer and hit r, it brings up properties. O opens the file?
I can’t even seem to get google to show me the results I found last night, one of the guys there had a screenshot showing that it is a thing. If you set it to underline the keyboard shortcuts, O is underlined for both Open and Properties.

Not the one I was thinking of, but pretty much this.
This sounds like a bug.
Literally unplayable.
Wha?! A letter marked to the occupant that actually contains info I want? It’s a Saint Patrick’s Day miracle. Time to upgrade to a NBN connection. =)
Hi TAY,
I am sick. Much pain, many cough. Send meds.
Kind Regards,
pupp3t.
Done.
Sorry to hear bud. Can’t send meds, so have an early dad joke instead!
Did you hear about the chameleon who couldn’t change colours?
He had a reptile dysfunction!God damnit. I saw that on IFLS today and I was saving it for page 6.
LOL I’ve had that one stashed in my mental collection for a while now. I try not to use too many at once cos otherwise I might run out 😉
“Hey Gooky, can you break this?”
Almost a catch-phrase of my friend’s here at work now, whenever he wants to test out some kind of app that he’s working on. Because I am just that clueless about how smartphones generally do things, I’m a perfect guinea pig for worst case scenario usability 😛
You should add that to your resume! Oblivious QA 1337 Hax0r!
I am teh obso1337.
LOL
Holy fuck. I have no idea what I am getting myself into thinking I can replace the power & home buttons on my old iPhone. Looking at the iFixit guides all “well shit..” It’s like 60+ steps from start to being reassembled at finish..
Assuming it’s out of warranty? Because you void the shit out of it if not.
I’d assume so since it’s an original iPhone 4 from release in 2010 😛
The 4 is a piece of cake actually. Get to it!
Hahahaha, I gotta wait on the home button replacement to show up before I start, hopefully it’ll arrive tomorrow.
Score. I just saw Black Stone Cherry is now playing 2 shows in Brisbane, one on the Monday with Steel Panther & then the following Saturday. That works to my advantage since I wanna see both Steel Panther & Black Stone Cherry.
Glory Hole or riot!
Really cool 😮 just got a phone call from EB Games, they chosen me eligible to upgrade to the Final Fantasy XV Ultimate Collectors Edition, considering only 160 units were issued to Australia (80 to JB HiFi and 80 to EB Games.) I’m pretty stoked about this.
Odds are they might by UK/EU copies? however if they are marked with AUS PAL classification I might have something pretty rare.
Nice!
People who played Yokai Watch; any strats on making capturing pokemon easier? I mean friending Yokai? So far it seems incredibly grindy and luck oriented 🙁
Entirely luck
Goddamit 🙁 Stupid fricking @!$@!#@!##. Some of these Yokai are ridiculously annoying to find and having no way to secure a capture is really stupid.
@chuloopa did you check out the article for the vintage Space Marine? The pricing seems almost tame compared to what you would expect of GW.
$50 is still really steep for a single plastic, but yeah, I was actually expecting something more along the $60 mark going by other recent releases.
Problem is the model isn’t that great. I get it’s a trowback, but it’s just completely unimpressive. The 25th anniversary model was much, much, much better. I think if they are going to do anniversary models they really do have to be somewhat cinematic, seeing as they won’t be going into people’s armies anyway.
What i AM happy about is that a leak has just popped up that some of the limited version Space Marine hero models are come in much more affordable packs, rather than the army boxes.
http://natfka.blogspot.com.au/2016/04/space-marine-codex-supplement-and-lot.html
I’ve been wanting that terminator captain and the reclusiarch chaplain for the longest time, but you tend to only find them on ebay for around $100 a pop…
@negativezero Just reinstalled windows from the non-international ISO and the Properties shortcut has been rightfully restored to R! \o/
So I was doing my interval run and Sid was playing with some doggie friends. However, the minute his friends went home, he wanted to go home too. This meant I had to stop my run to take him home, again.
I think he’s banned from now on =/
There are still some bargains to be found at Dick Smith. I was surprised how much stock was in my local store (Warringah Mall) – possibly because it’s hidden right near a bunch of renovations and most people probably assume the store isn’t actually there anymore.
Just got these for $44.20. Fingers crossed they work with the derpy android bluetooth 😀
http://www.philips.com.au/c-p/SHQ7300OR_00/actionfit-bluetooth-sports-headphones
Also because that place is a complete maze at the best of times and I am always and forever getting lost.
Last time I legit went around in a gigantic figure eight trying to figure out where the hell I came in from the carpark. Luckily the people at the info desk were able to tell from my parking ticket which exit I likely came in from.
It’s not the worst maze, I think Macquarie centre is worse. But the mall is a mess right now – if I have to shop for anything other than groceries, I’d rather go to Chatswood.
Haha, I’ve always heard people say that about Chatswood but I never seem to have a problem with it. Always bucking the trend 😛
Found The Olden Days on Youtube:
Even though we have it on DVD, it’s still worth a watch.
oy, I ran into some, I assume a bit of HR incompetence today. I was missing a tax form from a past workplace so I went over to see if they could send me another one. Upon meeting with HR and giving them the necessary details..
“Sorry, Saturday. We have no records of you working here.”
“I dunno what to tell you. I worked here. I recognize Jane over there.”
“Hi, Saturday!”
“Well, ok. Let me make a call… So is this your address?”
“No.”
“Is this your postal code?”
“No.”
“Is this your birthday?”
“No.”
“…..”
“Well that would explain why I didn’t get sent anything.”
With records like that, it’s amazing you got paid.
Hey Guys!
Bookmarks!
http://imgur.com/a/xIIuq
Also, I think no running today as I have pulled a muscle in my back. I can run, I just can’t do other important things, like breathing, moving my arms in a certain way, and turning.
A hot bath with Epsom Salts always helps. Melted my pain away when I did my hammy playing indoor cricket a few months back.
I had a warm shower, but I think it’s just a pulled muscle so I’ll just rest it
Rest, Ice, Compression & Elevation! These are your new weapons! Hope it gets better soon!
Finally some bookmarks I recognize! Those are rad – where can I buy them?
I’m having trouble finding a printing place that will do it for under $1500
PER BOOKMARK!?
That’s a little steep, but I’ll take 5.
For the lot to be printed up. It comes to about 50cents a bookmark
I never come in here because I’ve nothing to say & not time enough to read through it all.
But let it be known, I tolerate every one of you. Except you, you know who you are.
🙁
Hi, handsome!
Sorry D=
No me!
But… Okay.
Train adventures with Gooky! *jingle*
Today I had a stranger start talking to me about my beard, asking how long it’s been, my background, etc. I’m like 80% sure she was a guy though, in which case it seems to be extremely good at attracting male attention 😛
This is why I don’t catch public transport. My phobia is other people 🙁
Generally I just go to sleep, so then I can avoid all the otherfolk. It usually works, this one just got in early.
How can you sleep? My fight or flight responce would be working overtime.
Close my eyes, fold my arms and bow my head down a little. Easy 😛
Then run a separate low-power process for monitoring my surroundings to make sure I don’t miss my stop or have any weirdos do anything weird.
I let leeches loose on a train carriage once.
Not my proudest moment.
Well if it’s any consolation I’m proud of you.
Little bit intrigued, little bit disgusted, little bit inspired.
I want to say it was some crazy evil genius type scheme…
…
It wasn’t. We went hiking, and the trail finished at the train station. Our train was pulling in as we arrived, to we just ran straight on. Once we sat down we saw our boots/trousers were covered in leeches, so we picked them off and put them in a tupperware container. Maybe 10 minutes later we realize the lid wasn’t on properly, and there were leeches everywhere… so we just quietly moved to another carriage.
Alright, I’m just going to say it. I loved the Order 1886. There. It’s been said. Can’t take it back.
SHUN THE HERETIC
Actually, I didn’t play it. I got it with my PS4 but haven’t got around to playing it yet
I paid $11 for it and for that price, it was well worth it. Not a whole lot of gameplay and not a great ending but the game itself is a cinematic masterpiece with some of the best voice acting and character animations you’ll ever see.
I think that many people will enjoy it at that price. Part of the issue is the launch factor and how short it was for the price. Also as a launch title it was super hyped and didn’t live up to it for most people
Now that I have a PS4 I might look into it, for cheap. I certainly didn’t feel like I was missing out when it launched or anything.
I’ve figured that when I’m bored one Sunday I’ll pop it in for a quick runthrough
Man what a bargain. I bought it on release, finished it took it back for a full refund. Would buy it again for $11 though.
I feel like that’s an appropriate price.
How dare you enjoy something that others didn’t like? It’s almost like people have different tastes or something =P
I can barely look at myself in the mirror.
Good. Shame is healthy and keeps society functioning properly.
I enjoyed it also. Quite a lot.
This is my favourite thing ever.

I got down to ‘Who wants to see a Witch’s Titty’ before I lost my shit and spat up water over my laptop.
Thanks for nothing, Poita.
Glad to be of service.
Alright. I’m sorry in advance, But I pre ordered two games this morning.
No Mans Sky and Uncharted 4.
Also I traded in my Wii U because I havent touched it in 6 months.
My next two months:
DIRK SEARLES
STELLARIS
UNCHARTED 4
MIRROR’S EDGE
I’m gonna be well entertained.
Holy crap I completely forgot Stellaris…
INCEST AND FRATRICIDE SIMULATOR
IN
SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE
For me it’s:
Dank Soup
Stellaris
No Man’s Sky
Then items 2 and 3 for the foreseeable future.
My next two months don’t involve Dank Serrels \o/
– Quantum Break (have to head down to the corporate store to buy mine this week)
– Uncharted 4
– Atelier Sophie
– Odin Sphere Lefwhatzit
– No Man’s Sky
– Star Ocean 5
– Grand Kingdom
– Stranger of Sword City
I’ll probably play exactly zero of them though.
Time for the Good Game video on why you shouldn’t pre-order games…
Uncharted 4 is pretty much guaranteed to be the greatest game of all time though so I guess it doesn’t count here.
Apparently my parents’ dog has learned to bodysurf.
Bought Dark Souls 3 from GMG last night, even though I said I’d wait a few days after release 😛
$65ish for it isn’t too bad. At least that’s what I’m telling myself.
It’s Dark Souls. $1000 is cheap for such an experience.
Given that there seems to be no way to buy it on Console for under $78, $65 is a steal
The Division’s 1.1 changes. 99% of it is good.
The 1% of it makes me want to shelf the game for a year.
A lot of it looks pretty good, but I’m wondering about this:
“Turret skill can no longer suppress enemy NPCs, as this allowed named NPCs to be defeated too easily”
Considering the turret can’t hit the broad side of a barn and does barely any damage, I figured it was designed to suppress enemies… So now it can’t suppress, it can’t hit anything, and it can’t do any significant damage… so its function is now to irritate people in the DZ with its loud whirring?
Also the changes to crafting seem like an attempt to extend the grind for no real reason. Dismantling gives fewer materials, upgrading materials requires more resources… ugh. Anyone who’s not in full 30 or 31 yellows is gonna have a hell of a time catching up, now, unless there’s something they didn’t mention regarding drop rates.
Aye the Turret nerf is just… wtf? That seems poor. I guess it drives people to use the Shock and Flamethrower mods, but still it doesn’t make sense.
And then yes. The Crafting mat changes. There are some Math threads out on reddit, but the jist is, they’re increasing it by 15x. It’s hard enough to get Electronics as it is.
I’m hoping in a year or 2’s time it turns out more like D3. Sad to say though that they’re making a lot of the mistakes that Blizz and Bungie made with D3 and Destiny.
Welp, now I feel like we got played on the crafting mat thing. They’ve announced they’re going basically the D3 route – guaranteed yellows from named bosses (each with their own loot tables), Gear score of the drop being linked to the enemy level in PvE missions and DZ (30s will drop iLvl 30 equivalent, 31s will drop iLvl31 equiv, etc). So… hmm. That’s certainly a step in the right direction. Should also push people into the higher level DZ areas to get specific loot… and also people going rogue over other peoples’ drops… Mixed feelings on that, but it sounds more like what they were originally marketing it as.
I have to admit that currently I am not impressed by the Incursion. One mechanic, repeat 4x and run away from the grenade/missile spam. A disappointment really, hopefully it goes forward.
Yea, tried it last night.. Everyone was around 180GS, and we were all out of ammo by wave 4, dying because the “roll out of the way” button is the same as the “get into cover” button. Managed to get one charge to the APC and blew it up, but after two hours of dying to shotgunners, grenades, and getting stuck on terrain… no thanks. I’ll shelve it until more story content arrives.
Oh, and named 32s in the DZ drop 30-equivalent yellows. It seems to have changed from “yellows are rare” to “relevant yellows are rare”, so just a shifting of the goalposts. And the “supply drops” drop purples – people get a shot on the named boss nearby and then go rogue over anyone who loots his corpse – no-one cares one whit about the supplies themselves.
Yup that is exactly the case. My thoughts exactly. It’s hilarious, Reddit’s got the good ol’ half and half divide. One half that is to one extent casual and saying it’s nothing major as they’re still trudging through the game at their own pace and that people that have over 100 hours in it at this stage are playing too much and need to get a life.
zzzzz the internet >_>
Haven’t played it since reaching the end-game and realizing it’s the same gear-grind treadmill that burned me out of every other MMO ever. Decided not to engage with that lest I end up hating it – like when you repeat a song you like.
It’d be nice to go back, because oh my god, it’s a gorgeous rendition of New York City, and some of that shooting can be pretty satisfying, yeah… but I pretty much play most things for novelty/narrative. If I want incremental progress through grind, that’s what those shitty F2P infinite clicker games are for.
I might load Division up for the incursion (singular) when it comes out, but I’m not sure how much longevity that will provide. I idiotically got the season pass, so I guess I’m up for whatever else comes out; maybe after they’re all out? At least one of those pieces is a PVP thing though, so… yeah. Not much left in it for me.
I’ll probably grab the sequel, if there is one. 1-30 was pretty damn great. Like, surprisingly so. Another round of that would be nice, please. Maybe they’ll do one in a different city or something, I dunno. If they do a zombie/alien invasion DLC (like Red Dead Redemption’s DLC) I’m so there. So there.
Ok, I like to try and make friends with the cats around my neighbourhood when I go for my nightly walk. I have 2 regulars now who come up and allow me to pet them.
I made the mistake of telling people at work. Responses ranged from “You’re strange” to “You shouldn’t pet other people’s pets without permission” No one thought it was a good idea.
Personally I don’t find any faults with it. I don’t chase the cats and if they don’t come over I just keep on walking by. Am I wrong to do it?
???
I do this all the time, despite being allergic to cats. My girlfriend has been known to pick them up and pet them. If the cats are cool with it, I see nothing wrong here.
How the hell are you suppose to get permission without looking like a total weirdo? feel free to pet them your work mates are wrong.
Yeah I know right,
“Hey Mr Blank at 32 Blank street I see you leave your cat outside I would kindly like to pet it at night when I walk past.”
“No Mr. Blank you don’t need to call the police, I’ll just leave”
“Honey… get the kids in the house”
People pet my cats all the time and I’ve never had an issue with it. When I went to work one of my cats would run next door to the neighbours house for attention.
Same with my cat he loves being pet by anyone!
What a slut.
If they’re roaming around then they’re fair game. Not like you are wandering into their yard to pet them.
…or are you?
*plot thickens*
Not at all! We say hello to all the cats in the street on the way to and from school. If they like you, they’ll say hello back. Otherwise they give you a filthy stare and you keep on walking. Dogs are different – I wouldn’t try to pet a dog if I was outside its fence.
“You shouldn’t pet other people’s pets without permission”
They’re cats. They give their own permission.
Okay so I have a bit of a problem. My brother is taking me for granted in using my computer. When I point out that he smashed my phone, he insults me.
I don’t want to have to deal with him, so my plan is to buy a small tower that has wi fi built in so he can use his own computer for shit like buying concert tickets. Is this the right way to go? He won’t buy himself one because he is a user
Password lockout?
I told him my password as I was afraid he would destroy my computer
Your brother is a dropkick.
Yes, but there isn’t anything I can do about that, so I’m trying to find another solution
Is it too late for abortion?
I was going to suggest a cheap laptop but he’d probably drop that too. Probably best to get him a cheap system.
He won’t use laptops or netbooks for some weird reason
I mainly see him as a big child prone to throwing tantrums, problem is that certain tantrums could actually hurt people/belongings
Yeah sounds like the right path to go. I know it puts you out of pocket but it’s the best way to avoid more conflict and the possibility of a broken PC.
I’m saying this as a total outsider with no knowledge, but he sounds like a real arsehole. No one should be treated like that especially by family.
Yeah, well, the Taybies generally know about my family history. Needless to say, it’s not unusual to deal with insults and shit with our family members.
They’re probably reading this right now, not that I give a shit.
That sucks. I have so many old tower computers here, happy to send you one if you cover postage.
I need a small one that’s power efficient and has wifi
Have an Intel atom based one, in a fairly small case.
Does it have wi-fi? Like I don’t have to install the card?
Might not be the right way to go, but it resolves the conflict with a minimum of fuss.
The right way is to shit in his coffee.I was going to say “stab him in his sleep”, but that one’s been vetoed before.
Sorry
Original advice ended with “shank him if he complains”. I feel your pain.
Just buy him one of these.
He’ll never know the difference!
He hates tablets too.
@popdart5 @blaghman @tech_knight
Sorry gents, no Numenera this week, feeling like rubbish.
Fair cop. Hope you feel better soon.
No worries Red, take care of yourself
I’m going to be honest, after the day I had I saw the notification from you, and thought “Ahh fuck, I don’t know if I can handle Numenera.” So really, this is rather fortuitous.
Hope you feel better soon though.
Hmm. Message from Aerialist seeing if I’m still not keen on going climbing Friday. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Wanted some nice baked goods but couldn’t find something I wanted. dammit brain
I’m thinking about making brownies for work.
So did you?
Nah, I ordered pizza.
Ferfucksake. Not only have my system restore points I created gone and disappeared for no good reason (nor does google have any reason for why), but it seems that my wireless is also just… not there? I can see it in the Device Manager, I can disable/enable/uninstall/whatever, I just can’t seem to actually *use* it. No wireless options show up anywhere else or anything.
I’m going to wear out this SSD from constant reinstalls before I have a chance actually do anything with it at all.
*Opens door to TAY*
Oh good GOD people! smells like something died in here!
Hi! how is everything?
haven’t seen you handsome devils for a while!
The smell?
Oh, that’s just Beethoven.
He’s decomposing as we speak.
Hey now, Gary Larson doesn’t like it when people put his comics on the internet.
I miss the Far Side.
I also still find it hilarious that the Thagomizer is actually a science thing now.
But I saw you like three day ag- Oh.
I see how it is.
I’m hardly a regular anymore due to work and stuffs so I don’t really get a chance to touch base with people anymore…
This makes me sad!
Went to JB this arvo, bought “Lord Marksman and Vanadis” on Blu-ray.
Came home, went to play it, says that the disc requires a Region A player, even though they have printed that it’s Regions A & B on the back of the case.
Tried the other disc, same thing.
Good thing I still have the receipt.
Madman’s release should be Region B only. It’s super rare to get anime that’s both A & B since licensing deals tend to separate the USA and Europe.
Hey fitbit fronds!
There’s a new feature – you can now set a goal of 250+ steps each hour for a set number of consecutive hours (eg, business hours, all day, in the afternoon or evening). So far only the fitbit Alta has the function to remind you about that goal, but it seems now everyone can see that data on the dashboard.
Got more than four hours’ sleep for once. Maybe I’ll actually get some work done today >.>
Just do what I do – embrace the fact that you’re a useless piece of shit, and live in constant wonder that you haven’t been fired yet.
Speaking of which, everyone’s out to lunch now so it must be time for my nap.
A couple tidbits of intel for any XB1ers out there:
– Games with Gold. We get Sunset Overdrive FOR FREE starting from the 15th of April (valid for a month.) I reluctantly never picked this up and I’m pumped to give it a play through.
– Gears of War 4 is going to have split screen across all its different modes. Pretty exciting and hopefully other AAA games take notice.
That’s all folks.
It’s hard to begrudge the opposing console heathens what sounds like universally good news.
…But I’m sure someone will manage. 🙂
Sunset Overdrive is great, just a load of fun. Some of the comedy works really well and some of it just feels like they tried too hard and it falls flat. I would definitely still recommend it to anyone with an XBoner though.
Those Halo people should take note of that.
Exactly.
I’ve done Tina Belcher as well now

Oh I am on board for a full set of these!
I will probably do Gene tonight.
I’m hoping I find a place that will decently price printing them out
Picked up Age of Decadence on steam a couple of weeks ago, and I’m having a fair bit of fun with it – the combat is so brutal, I’ve had more luck with non-combat builds so far. I’m furthest with a no-combat Merchant, having completed the guild’s quests in the first three cities. Last night I started a Loremaster and I should pick a faction before leaving the first city…
The first couple screenshots on the Steam store page had me curious, but I wishlisted it after I saw the last few.
(Also that HyperLightDrifter thing is speaking very strongly to me for the indie fix.)
Hyper Light Drifter is so fucking beautiful. I wish it wasn’t designed so that only masochists with tons of time to beat their heads against it can actually enjoy the stunning art and soundtrack 🙁
EDIT: Gameplay basically looks like Ys II with Oath in Felghana’s dash move and the difficulty ramped up to 13. Which should be appealing to me but just isn’t 🙁
There’s probably a trainer out there for that.
That’s seriously what I’ve started resorting to for games that I feel are taking up more of my time than I’m getting entertainment value for. It’s made so many things so much better.
Simply getting tonnes of gold and materials for DA3 in a bid to eliminate the MMO’yness of it has allow for more focus on the story. If a schematic catches my eye, I no longer feel compelled by my inner anal-retentive to go trekking to whichever area has the highest quantities of the optimal crafting material to grind that until I’ve got enough, let alone re-rolls.
It’s the fucking best.
None of the constructed gear in that game is particularly good anyway so not missing out.
I’m personally more than happy to play with a guide to get through faster or get everything in a game, or cheat in minor ways like using a trainer to add resources, but only in cases where it reduces busywork.
I guess you could probably find a trainer for Hyper Light Drifter that makes you invincible or something but where’s the fun in that? That’d be like being invulnerable in Dark Souls.
Awh. So it’s just a straight meatboy style platformer? That’s a shame. I haven’t seen much, but what I saw was making me think in a sort of Salt and Sanctuary kinda vein. (Which, btw, is frickin’ awesome. So much love for that one. It’s 2D Dark Souls.)
No it seems to be a Soulsian experience. You have an estus flask-like health mechanic and stuff. The reason it’s so hard is the bosses are crazy and the fights on the way are complicated. There doesn’t seem to be much heavy platforming since it’s basically top-down.
Don’t know how you arrived at meatboy platformer from a comparison with Ys II / Oath in Felghana which are both quite difficult action RPGs…
Nah, was just going off screenshots and some vague descriptions, which didn’t have much gameplay featured or in my memory. I actually thought it was side-scroll 2D. Most of the shots I’ve seen must’ve been cinematic shots.
It’s time for the next installment of ‘Things that make cffndncr laugh uncontrollably at work and possibly spit things all over his laptop and get odd looks from his coworkers and just generally look like a total dingus.
In today’s episode, https://www.facebook.com/ozzymanreviews/videos/vb.687383314630872/949601555075712/?type=2&theater
I love the name boaty mcboatface
I have an irrational dislike for the Mc[Word] naming convention, which I think traces back to everyone talking about McDreamy and McSteamy all the time years ago. There just tends to be a kind of unsubtleness or uncleverness to it that seems to really bug me 😛
I am the same thing with anything iWhatever, but I can very firmly trace that back to my distaste for all things Apple.
My dislike is the word -gate being added to anything with the slightest bit of scandal or disagreement
My dislike is “Broken street date”, so it came out a bit early, I’m mistaking it as the second coming of Christ happened or something with how everyone just flips out over it. Geez it’s just one day or few sooner.
That and “pre-order”, when people don’t even know if it’ll run well or if it’s actually any good.
Pre-order for something that migh actually run out of stock can make sense
Pre-ordering a digital product is a bit odd I feel, but if that makes them feel more connected to the product then good for them.
A street-date that breaks before a weekend for something I’m keen to play is definitely something I would flip out over if the alternative was waiting until AFTER the weekend.
I NEED SLEEP WHEN I WORK.
Blame Richard Nixon for that.
Hey, he’s not a crook, a’ight!?
Yes but the watergate scandal was not a scandal about water
THEN WHAT WAS IT ABOUT?!
IT WAS ABOUT GATES SCREE! GATES!!!!
THEN WAY IS EVERYTHING ABOUT GATES AND NOT WATER? SHOULD IT BE WATERSHIRTFRONT INSTEAD OF SHIRTFRONTGATE?
I’m pretty sure it was because of the break-in at the Watergate hotel, which makes the ‘-gate’ thing even more absurd.
@cffndncr Everything needs an edgy slogan. You should know that.
They had to call it Watergate because Deep Throat has unsavory connotations.
Oh god yes. I knew there was another and was trying to think what it was, but the best I could come up with was “-oholic” as a catch-all for any kind of addiction. But that’s a more minor annoyance than this 😛
So says the TAYoholic
Also the getting half naked a conventionsoholicSpiritual downvote.

Bloody hell.
Adam Bandt shared this on facebook & people are taking it as a real news article, I also think he did too. It also got some of my friends. I read the first paragraph and was all “This reads so much like a satire piece” then saw it was from The Backburner, haha.
It becomes scary when satire and reality become difficult to distinguish between each other. :/
Reminds me of certain others, if I heard of either of these for the first time I would’ve first thought it was satire:
The knights and dames are being brought back
Talking about the benefits of “Clean Coal”
“We want to get rid of windfarms because they’re too loud and an eyesore”
Prime Minister eats raw onion whole.
I get that ALL THE TIME on my FB with articles from the Betoota Advocate. Funny stuff.
Haha.
My mate who shared it hasn’t responded to me informing him it was a fake article, yet he’s happily sharing other shit.
Ignorance is bliss! Even if it is willful ignorance…
Went to my local Dick Smith today to see what was left, literally nothing.. I kinda felt like making an offer on their shelving since I need some & well they need the cash 😛
There was a lot of Xbone games at $20, nothing else really. I did pick up a new free to air digital antenna for $20 (originally $100) to replace the old shitty one that doesn’t seem to pick up enough channels, for when I do decide to watch tv.
I wanted to get one of their $30 Chromecasts but alas I was not quick enough, nor did they have any iPhone accessories like I hoped. To be fair though I am rarely at the shopping centre they’re now located in because it’s a dead centre for retail & there’s nothing worthwhile there now since @freezespreston moved to another shopping centre the jerk 😛
Basically all that’s left at my local one is a seemingly never ending supply of TV’s and a bunch of auxiliary cords. I needed a new lightning cable and I though they’d have hundreds but nup, didn’t even have any of them.
They probably would sell the fittings though. My local one is. There’s signs up everywhere with photos and prices of basically everything that isn’t part of the building’s structure. They’re even selling their safe’s! Also free sale signs! Take as many as you need! Be prepared for when you’re going into administration!
Haha, all that mine had was 2 laptops, a bunch of still over priced cables & printer stuff lol. No tv’s sadly, I was kinda hoping to pick up a cheap telly 😛
Just reading up on the status of Louis CK’s show ‘Louie’ well it doesn’t look or sound good. He feels he is over saturating the market with himself & has decided to keep the show on indefinite hiatus. That sucks, since I really thought it was a great show & it was the only material of his I had really bothered to watch, even though I like his stand up, Louie spoke more to me cause i’m more into TV shows.
@greenius you like it don’t you?
Ah dang, it’s one of my favourite shows…
I enjoy his stand up too so as long as he still does that I won’t be too sad :’P
Just added up the cost of all the Rift titles I’m interested in. US$320. So probably around $440. Ouch.
OH IT MUST BE SO HARD FOR YOU TO GET A FREE RIFT…
…
Excuse me if I save my sympathy for someone a little more deserving :p
But I already spent that money on a new PC 😛
If I never need to explain to someone what I mean by ‘first world problems’, I am directing them to this thread.
I never would have considered myself in any way successful, but I guess this can be close enough.
Hey don’t be too hard on yourself, it takes a whole heap of man to wear the FishGief mantle
Ugh, Max woke me up wanting some food, but at 4:30am.
Luckily for her, I was getting up to watch the golf, so she had a feed and came up on the bed and snuggled up with me.
Watch… golf?
Were you restless and in need something mind-numbingly boring to lull you back to sleep?
I jest, but golf (like darts) is one of those sports that I find impossible to watch.
I go to bag people for watching golf (or tennis, for that matter), then I remember that I’ll happily sit down and watch five days of cricket.
Yeah I have given up trying to look down on sports other people watch as I am set to sit down and watch 4 – 5 hours of a cycling race this weekend.
Oh god, so would I…. what have I become!?
That being said, exciting stuff happens in cricket… occasionally.
I cringed so much when I saw the guy completely botch his putting on the first hole. That would have been a broken putter if I was playing.
Gene and Louise are done

an incredibly short review of Hyper Light Drifter based on the first hour or so:
Link and Samus had a baby & raised it on a diet of Dark Souls & Hotline Miami.
Looks amazing (for pixel art).
Soundtrack is rad.
No dialogue. all exposition done is via semi-surreal cutscenes which are sorta open to interpretation.
Really difficult. You can only take 2-3 hits before dying. it’s all about the dodge. dodge between enemies (and there’s lots of them) take a few swings, dodge away & onto the next one &* repeat, hopefully not getting hit, until they’re gone. you’ll die a lot. thats ok. checkpoints are pretty frequent & respawn time is pretty short. but getting through an area after your 10th attempt, dashing between enemies, slashing em down & not taking a hit makes you feel like a fucking ninja.
verdict: so far, so good.
Dont care that I havnt seen Starwars: Force Awakens…BB-8 still screams Imperial Probe Droid to me. Its only a matter of time before it kills Chewie.
This would explain why

XCOM: Long War – Update, spoilerising for length
Things are now really ramping up, I’ve been taken by surprise with a terror mission that I don’t have the right classes available to do, so I’m trying to make do with half my squad using LMGs. Thank the Omnissiar that I had a Rocketeer available cuz they’re a godsend vs the Chryssalids thye’re now throwing at me, and they’re even more terrifying than ever before. Oh who am I kidding, everything is bloody terrifying now, and I love that about this mod. There are no enemies that I shrug off as not a real threat, they can all one-shot one of my guys if I allow them to, so I have to really plan out my attack and position very carefully or I’m going to get smashed. Rockets are extremely valuable against Chryssalids now, and being able to reposition and fire rockets at reduced aim helps a LOT in getting a good shot in.
So a main difference with Terror missions in this mod compared to EW Vanilla, you’ve actually already lost in terms of panic levels. The panic levels will go up, even if you save the majority of the civilians (Even then that’s really hard to do), what you’re doing is minimising the panic increase that happens through your efforts of helping the civilians, you won’t be able to make a net gain with Terror missions. Which makes sense thematically, the fact that they attacked at all will make the people there more on edge, ergo, higher panic levels anyway, but if a lot of people were saved due to XCOM’s efforts, not so much panic will be created because despite that the aliens terrorised the city, they know you can do at least something about it.
Grenades/rockets are such a high requirement now in this mod, you’ll be crazy to not carry some with you, especially for the Chrysallids, geez they can throw up to 4 at you at once, each of them have higher health and also damage reduction, so you have to throw everything you got at them to not be overwhelmed by their first turn… *shudders*
Still, really loving this mod, feels way more active than EW vanilla.
I’m starting to get irritated by all the Dark Souls 3 coverage.
Look! People playing this game you can’t buy yet.
Hey! We’re going to offer prizes for people to speed run this game that you haven’t been able to experience yet!
It all just seems to be missing the sanctity of that first playthrough. The fear of the unknown, the joy of discovery and figuring things out for yourself.
Speed running is what you do to squeeze more out of a game *after* that main experience. To focus on that in markets where it isn’t released… Well.
I guess I’m starting to understand why Demon’s Souls was originally passed over and not released in the West, since the core game doesn’t really fit Western marketing narratives.
I haven’t been watching any of the coverage as I want first playthrough to be fairly clean, to see the bosses for myself, to work out what I like.
Hell I’m still on my first dark souls play through and I don’t know which bosses are still to come.
But offering a speed run competition seems odd. But considering the feedback on DS2 I think people have a really hard time understanding why demon/dark souls worked.
I’ve avoided coverage / trailers but now I just have to cut Bamco AU from the twitter feed. Just spamming all the live streams and stuff.
I don’t fathom it… It’d be like a new album being released for a band, and the record company showing off people singing along to it and offering upcoming remix competitions, but no, you can’t just buy and listen to the album yourself.
Watch a cinema full of people enjoy the new Rogue One movie.
See their joy, experience the emotions of the movie through them
Upcoming competitions for people that can recite the most lines from the movie!
Hello Peoples!

LIVE FIASCO
Keen
We have many keen peeps, so multiple fiascoes are looking more than likely ?
One cool thing I’ve seen is you get two tables to do the set up as normal… then swap tables and run with the other table’s set.
Bahahaha!
Gah! This comment is why multiple upvotes should be a thing!
You got the playset books, yes? You have to pack them
I have the PDF’s BUt I am planning to get the print versions too.
ALWAYS YES.
You’d better record it so I can enjoy it vicariously 🙁
Hopefully in 2017 I’ll have enough leave stockpiled to hit PAX AU again. It’s hard to justify being back for it this year though since my Dad’s 60th is at the end of November and that’s more important, as is trying to be back for Christmas.
We did record the last pax one, did you hear it?
No 🙁
B-ob’s Subterfuge Stories… La La La *theme music*
So I’m currently engaged in a 10 person brawl, where most of the players have stuck it out. Unusual for a public match. One player auto resigned at the start of the game, and a second player resigned after realising he couldn’t win (I’d coordinated 3 simultaneous attacks on his generators)… but apart from that it’s been a great game. Plenty of diplomacy, shady dealings, players trying to double cross and failing… I’ve been doing my usual tactic of playing innocent for the first half of the game before suddenly springing a bunch of mines all at once to take the lead. At current rate I’ll win in 3 days, much to the disappointment of the current leader who has been unable to rally support against me. Possibly because I demonstrated how he was playing them for suckers. >:DLowlight/Highlight: Queuing up a series of attacks perfectly timed, with the only imperfection being that they’d hit at 1:30am my time. Set an alarm so I could spring the next move and slept through it until 3am. When I woke up I saw his Queen retreating to another base… that I could have gotten to first with an Admiral… if I’d gotten to it 30 minutes previously. As a result I’ve set up a string of border skirmishes as this player fights tooth and nail for survival against myself and my ally. It’s a great fight actually and it’s providing some real tactical decisions, rather than just coasting to the finish line which I’d be doing if I had eliminated him.
So a tech from my ISP came round today to re-position my dish (on wireless) resulting in twice the speeds I was getting previously.
I’m ok with this.
Woo, 20kB/s! \o/
Time for the weekly @haggis tribute!!
Where do you buy broth in bulk?
The Stock Market!Whiteboards are a remarkable invention!
WHile having dinner at a restaurant the other day, the waitress came and asked “Did everything come out alright?”
I told her I’d let her know in the morning!
I read a poetry book about criminals the other day.
It had prose and cons.
There’s a new craze going around called Extreme Camping.
I hear it’s in tents.
I was going to eat a clock for lunch today, but it was too time consuming
I totally misread that
So I decided to spend some $$ on myself today, so I bought a Chromecast.
Going to see Batman v Superman tonight, friend wants me to go with her she went as far as saying her shout, which wasn’t necessary but she got upset at me last time we went to the movies and wouldn’t let her pay haha.
…grabs popcorn?
Nah.. Well at least not that overly salted cinema popcorn anyway.
Sneaky BYO popcorn \o/
Nah, pop down to my work & grab a 4 pack of whatever spirit & mixer you prefer & sneak that in way better than popcorn 😛
Giggity.
So that was weird. I just got an email from Soundwave advertising tours for Iron Maiden, Trivium, Fear Factory & Millencolin.
I’m guessing Soundwave touring is still an active company..?

I’ve been super busy this week so didn’t get to watch anything until last night. 🙁
Mayoiga (aka The Lost Village)
This one is… odd. It seems like it might have potential but it has some initial issues that undermines things a bit. Basically the cast is about 40 people ranging from high school to college age, and they’re on a bus on a ‘mystery tour’ to go to some isolated village in the mountains that apparently even the government doesn’t know the location of, in order to ‘start their life over’. It seems like a great setup for a sort of Lord of the Flies thing or possibly a murder mystery or who knows. It was a bit slow to start. The entire first episode is basically an introductory thing where they’re all on the bus. And I mean, all. The cast seems to be about thirty characters (who introduce themselves with online names) and a lot aren’t remarkable enough to remember yet. I’m worried the cast might end up being too big. Also the character that I assume to be the protagonist seems like a bit of a twerp, though this might just be initial impressions. Anyway, this is intriguing but not amazing. I’m thinking 2-3 episodes to give it a chance to get moving.Bakuon
Probably won’t watch more of this. It’s another one of those girls-join-enthusiast-club-focused-on-traditionally-ungirly-things shows. Usually that means shooting each other with airsoft guns. In this case it’s riding motorcycles. The characters aren’t very interesting and it feels like it can’t decide what it wants to be. Highly mediocre. About the only amusing element is that the club president is a girl who never talks and wears a bike helmet with the visor down at all times, so it’s basically The Stig. It wasn’t bad but there was nothing really to hook you either. May dig it back out if the rest of the season is disappointing but I doubt it.Hundred
Pretty awful and also insanely derivative. Main character with SECRET TORTURED PAST (he fought a monster once) transfers into special school where they use magical mecha weapons things to fight each other so they can learn to fight SAVAGE MONSTERS. He’s basically a celebrity because he has the highest aptitude scores of anyone that’s ever applied (see: TORTURED PAST). Within minutes the bitchy student council president has challenged him to a duel. Oh and he has a roommate that is pretending to be a guy but is very clearly a girl. It feels like someone’s making a knockoff of Infinite Stratos, which was also incredibly mediocre but at least had some attempts at a logical and interesting plot. But seriously, if you really want yet another one of these generic battle school anime (if you do then you’re part of the problem!), then Asterisk War has a second season that just started and while still kind of average, it’s vastly better than this.Endride
I was initially uninterested since it seems like a generic anime tie-in for a browser game, but it’s Keiji Gotoh directed (Kiddy Grade, Gatekeepers, Utakata) and it’s a collaboration between the creators of classic manga Bastard and Rurouni Kenshin. So I had to look. Shame it seems to be completely uninteresting. Whimpy main dude has a thing for crystals and his Dad is some kind of researcher and some stuff happens and he gets sucked inside a gemstone and it’s actually a generic fantasy world and he can pull a sword out of thin air and meets another guy that can do the same thing and it’s clearly the setup for some kind of bromance but I spent the entire time thinking “when is something actually going to happen?”. First episode was just really boring. Not bad in any way, but I didn’t feel any hook to it. I may give it a second chance because of the Kenshin connection but I’m very much not feeling it.Current watch list:
Definite:
– Macross Delta
– Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure
– Asterisk War S2
– Re:Zero
– Sailor Moon Crystal Season III
Maybe:
– Mayoiga
– Kuma Miko
Current Priority List for trying next:
– Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress (Attack on Titan studio & director, Code Geass Writer!)
– Joker Game (Pre-WW2 Japanese Spy Drama? Kenji Kawai soundtrack, Production IG. Sounds interesting.)
– Bungou Stray Dogs (classic mystery novel writers in what sounds like a Read or Die / League of Extraordinary Gentlemen mashup)
– Twin Star Exorcists (got a promo copy of the manga in Japan with one volume of Seraph of the End, it seemed okay)
– Netoge no Yome wa Onnanoko ja Nai to Omotta (Shit setup but it’s a popular light novel so maybe it has something to it)
– Boku no Hero Academia (looks mediocre)
– Seisen Cerberus (not expecting much)
Today and Tomorrow should see the start of a bunch of other stuff as well – the list above is only things that have aired already.
Also, as a side note: Fuck Netflix so much. One of the shows I really wanted to watch, PA Works 15th Anniversary show Kuromukuro, has been licensed by Netflix. Worldwide exclusive rights. This is a shit situation. Outside of Japan where they’re not assholes about it, Netflix doesn’t simulcast. They only allow for binge watching. This means we won’t get to see the show at all until at least 3-6 months from now. It really sucks out a lot of the interest I had in watching it because by the time they deign to let us see it, we’ll already know everything about it from Japanese sources. 🙁
Oh my god the ending for Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable is Savage Garden’s ‘I Want You’. That’s an even more bizarre choice than the previous seasons of Jojo.
No All-Star by Smash Mouth. I am dissapointed.
Also the OP was not CG! Hopefully the second OP will live up to it’s predecessors.
Thank god. The less often I have to listen to Smash Mouth the better.
Also can we just agree that it should have been Shine On You Crazy Diamond?
I’d like to offer a humble counterview to Bakuon as a motorcycle owner.
Top Gear The Anime/K-on with Motorcycles/BakuonNow, the words “Top Gear” will be thrown about once or twice in this post, and for disturbingly good reason. Join casual-paced and simple-minded
James MayHane Sakura, passionate and outspokenJeremy ClarksonOnsa Amano, and… uh.. complete comic reliefRichard HammondRin Suzunoki as they engage in casual club activities that involve, of course, motorcycles- from road trips to commentaries to races of preposterous nature. Now I’ll be upfront with you. It is not relaxing enough to be called a good slice-of-life anime, nor is it comedic enough to be labelled as a gag anime or anything of the sort. It hits that muddy middle ground that indeed, grounds much shows to the bottom levels of mediocrity. And it appears to make up for this by, in typical anime fashion, delivering moe and sultry fan-service, which can be universally unappealing to some. Not to say that it isn’t amusing as a whole, but compared to, well, a hell of a lot of other shows..
But hey, it’s appealing to a niche, and it does it half-decently. The bikes at time are the most detailed objects you’ll see on screen, and they sound half-decent to boot. And there are jokes, albeit aimed towards a certain crowd. There’s a jibe at cyclists, a line or two on the odd appeal of the breaking down and repair of bikes (By the way, the popular philosophy book Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance was not really at all about Zen or Motorcycle Maintenance, and that’s disappointing) and jibes toward Suzuki bikes. There’s a certain amount of passion that, like other, as Neg so perfectly describes, “girls-join-enthusiast-club-focused-on-traditionally-ungirly-things” shows has, and it does shine- you’ll, at the very least, have your passions flared a tiny bit or fond memories fondly recalled for motorcycling. If you do drive a motorcycle, after all.
And of course, The Stig is a schoolgirl with pigtails.
TL;DR: BIKES GO VROOM VROOM, I APPRECIATE THAT SHIT, MAYBE YOU DO TOO. BIKES AIN’T FOR LEWDS THO, 6/10
I think we’re on the same page. I feel like it doesn’t know what it wants to be. Is it informative? Is it just cute fluff? Is it about unsubtle lesbian undertones? It doesn’t know and neither do I.
It’s not even bad. Just didn’t have a hook for me. Like trying to market an anime about a girls’ cricket team to the USA. Except way harder because that would actually be rad.
I was disappointed by the lack of love for Yamaha. Maybe in later episodes, but we’re only seeing Honda, Kawasaki, obviously Suzuki, and Ducati. Brrrrm.

The timezone difference now really sucks. You guys are barely waking up by the time I’m already going home from work. 🙁 How can I slack off now? I’ll have to actually get shit done.
Heh. The other casual at work went to the area manager whilst my boss is away on leave & complained to him about having his shifts taken off him, resulting in the area manager taking the Saturday shift off of me and giving it to the other bloke, who doesn’t seem to like me, jokes on him I just picked up the same hours with better pay in nightfill for Saturday nights.
Also what’s even funnier is that my boss texted me about an hour after I found out this news yesterday to ask how stuff was going in the store, etc.. Told her about this & turns out the area manager was under strict order to not do this because of what he has done & the customer complaints he has recieved in recent times.
The Virus Show is my favourite TAY drama.
Mine too! I work hard on these scripts 😛

Title: The Rape of New Shanghai
Date: 2116AD,16 Febuary
Location: Sol-Proxima Transit, On approach to New Shanghai Colony.
Kate activated the intercom as the distant O’Neil cylinder designated as New Shanghai Colony became visible on radar.
“Colonel?” Kate waited for her passenger to wake.
“Yes?” Colonel Yang cleared her throat.
“New Shanghai Colony in range now Colonel.” Kate waited for a moment before opening communications with New Shanghai Traffic Control.
“New Shanghai Traffic Control, this is Colonial-one-eight on approach.” The colony grew inordinantly larger for the wait.
“New Shanghai Traffic Control, this is Colonial-one-eight on approach. Are you receiving me?” They were now at two kilometres.
There should be something. Kate looked at the data. Handshake good. No errors.
“New Shanghai Traffic Control, this is Colonial-one-eight on approach. Switching over to remote now.” The transport would proceed to autodock. Kate returned to internal comms.
“Colonel. No reply from the nest. Proceeding with Autodock.” Colonel Yang appeared at the flightdeck hatch.
“You said no reply?” Kate nodded.
Yang wiped at her eyes and unleashed a yawn.
“And not a comms error?” Kate shook her head.
“No…not a comms error.” Yang reached in to a pocket on her flight suit. The Blackberry was old.
“Retract Armour. Lets have a visual.” Kate retracted the Armour over the flightdeck to reveal New Shanghai Colony in all her glory.
“What the fuck is that?” The crumpled Graphene Foam hull had breached along the full length of the Cylinder exposing the Industrial decks to the cold of interstellar space. Colonel Yang franticaly typed on the Blackberry and sent the message.
“Still closing on autodock. Ten. Nine. Eight. Seven. Six. Five. Four. Three. Two. One.” The transport made contact with the O’Neil cylinder. Locks bit down on the dock. Kate looked over her shoulder at the hull damage. The rupture was huge. Kate took a breath.
“We have hard dock.” Yang placed a hand on Kate’s shoulder.
Both hull layers had breached. How was that even possible? They both had family on New Shanghai. No emergency signal. Nothing. They had been gone six months up the colony trail and back again. What the hell had happened ?
“Begin transmit to New Bejing.” Kate spun up the Quantum Relay.
“Comms online.” Yang typed at the keys on her Blackberry, attatched an image of the hull breach and pushed send.
“EVA suits.” Kate nodded at Yang’s instruction and climbed out of her seat.
Kate followed Colonel Yang to the airlock. A locker released a pair of EVA suits.
“Are you okay?” Yang, helmet locked and sealed stared at Kate, her face and heart stricken with pain of what might be. Yang held up a thumb.
“I’m okay to go.” Kate regreted the words. Yang turned the key and watched the sensors as the exchange happened.
“Atmosphere in the pipe.” The pressure equalized.
“Release hatches.” Yang rotated the second key and the Automatics released the hatches. The graphene blocks moved to reveal the access to New Shanghai colony. A great panorama of the original Shanghai city on an increasingly distant Earth ran the length of the access.
At least there were no corpses huddled against the airlock in some panicked evaccuation gone tragically wrong as their indestructible colony failed around them. That most of all filled Yang with a terror she had thought left behind on an ever distant earth orbiting an ever distant star.
Yang’s Blackberry buzzed and they were both startled by its technological cry against an otherwise utter void of sound. Kate looked at the device strapped on Yang’s forearm.
“Do you want to get that or should I?” Yang fumbled for the device and Kate watched as the graphene device display illuminated her face and the message reflected off the Colonel’s visor.
Kate could read it easily.
‘WTF?? HTFITEP? WL CHK LOGS. KEEP UPDATED!’ Yang typed a new message and pressed send.
“We keep going.” Kate nodded.
“Agreed.” Yang moved forward. Fifty metres… Kate stared at the panorama. The people in the street…deceased…old.
Yang’s mother. Young. Virile. Caught straddling the lap of a young man who may or may not have been Colonel Yang’s biological father. They had selected the panorama because it had tied at least one of the colonists to the past. There they were. Two earthlings.
Two earthlings whose descendants were on this colony. Girls came here to look at the lovers and run home giggling. It was something they didnt see any more. A colony of a thousand women and a freezer full of sperm. Colony after colony…filled with women chasing a Sunmaker to Proxima.
“You will have to forgive her one of these days.” Kate knew Yang harboured a few irrational hatreds. Her mother’s decision to marry according to her parent’s expectations was one of them.
“Not going to talk about it.” Yang turned the key on the boarding Gate revealing a corpse in military combat armour guarding the transit lounge. Yang looked at the face hoping for some glimmer of recognition. It was a Man.
Blackberry. Classic.
What an odd fellow.
No one’s actually going to see this anyway but…
NegativeZero’s Anime Impressions
Watching the new season so you don’t have to
(Part the Third)
Boku no Hero Academia
Funimation were pushing this real hard leading into the season so I was kind of expecting it’d be reasonable. Nope. Basically, a plot contrivance happened and now most of humanity has superpowers and there are superheroes everywhere. Main character has no powers but wants to be a hero and enrol in Hero Academy but he gets bullied a lot due to being a whimpy dropkick. This is every inch a Jump show. It’s animated about on par with Hunter X Hunter (i.e. not well) and has no charm or anything. Feels like taking One Punch Man’s setting but not having Saitama or an art budget. In short, it’s crap. Dropping hard.Kiznaiver
This is Trigger’s third proper TV series attempt, after hitting it out of the park with Kill la Kill and then completely whiffing with that dumb Superpowers Are Commonplace thing that I can’t remember the awkward title for. This is assuming we don’t count the utter flop that was Ninja Slayer from Animation since that was basically a slideshow in Flash. The main character is a weak, spinless shitsack that is constantly bullied because he lacks the ability to feel pain at all. There are strong hints that this is a result of some kind of medical experiment. A plot contrivance happens and he and six other random misfits from his class have had their sense of pain linked, so that they all feel anything that happens to one of them. Prediction: there will be doujins involving linked sexytime feelings at the next comiket. Anyway, I’m really not sold on it. It doesn’t have anywhere near the flash of Kill la Kill – Imaishi is busy on Space Patrol Luluco – and the characters and plot haven’t really grabbed me. It’s not offensively bad like their last stuff though so I’ll give it an episode or two to develop a bit before rendering judgementBungou Stray Dogs
Didn’t really know what to expect coming into this, beyond that the characters all have some kind of supernatural power, are based off famous (in Japanese) literature greats, and they are part of some kind of private investigation agency. All of that is true. Main character Atsushi Nakajima is an orphan who’s been evicted from his orphanage because he’s being targeted by a magical Tiger. Yeah. Anyway he rescues Osamu Dazai from drowning in a river in a bungled suicide attempt, some things happen, and it turns out that Nakajima is himself the tiger. Then he joins the agency. I’m not exactly sold on this yet. I was kind of expecting something a little more Read or Die going in, but this is okay. Not enough seen yet to really get a good idea how it’s going to go. Not having studied Japanese classics I don’t recognize any of the characters’ namesakes except Edogawa Ranpo but it seems they’re names that most Japanese high schoolers would recognize, sot there’s a bit of a culture gap there. I’m thinking a few episodes more but leaning toward dropping if it doesn’t pick up.Flying Witch
I like this. It’s been a while since we had a good Iyashikei TV anime. Non Non Biyori had elements of it but was primarily more of a comedy, and Gochuumon wa Usagi Desuka is more of a moe fluff shiw. Tamayura’s last season might be the most recent. The main character, Makoto, is a witch. By tradition, at fifteen, she has to move out of home and prove she can survive on her own for a year, but her parents decide she’d be better off being sent out into the boonies to stay with her aunt and cousins. She’s kind of spacey and clueless at times. It was a relaxing, enjoyable watch overall. The animation’s good and the cast works well. My biggest gripe is the character designs – for a girl that’s meant to be fifteen, she looks way too old. She could pass for 25. This looks like a regular for me though. Perfect show to tide me over until the adaption of Kozue Amano’s most recent anime starts next season.Kotetsujou no Kabaneri
The title’s being translated as ‘Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress’ but it turns out that Kotetsujou (Iron Fortress) is the name of an armored train, so I’m leaning toward leaving toward not translating. This is a Wit Studio original, and you can tell that they’re drawing strongly from their experience with Attack on Titan (which was their studio’s debut work). Same director and a lot of the same staff, though with one half of the Code Geass writing team. And this is basically Attack on Titan. It’s dark, violent and full of men-turning-on-each-other-in-fear and stuff. The first episode has a lot of story beats that also mirror the opening of Attack on Titan as well. The setup is… well, basically it’s Zombies. We’re talking the fast-paced, intelligent, super-strong, super-powerful type that infect with a single bite and have a thirst for the living. So not the classic shambling Romero type. It’s also sort of a Steampunk. Humanity seems to have arranged themselves into walled-off ‘stations’ linked by railways along which enormous armored trains travel. Additionally the society inside is basically Feudal Japan. The Samurai are the leaders, and the Warrior caste are more important than the peasants. The main character is a steam engineer by day, but by night he researches the ‘Kabane’, the Zombies, and tries to develop his rivet gun to be able to pierce the armored cage that surrounds their hearts. The second half of the first episode has the station he works in overrun after one of the trains is taken over by hundreds of Kabane and then run at high speed through the gates, smashing them down and letting them into the city. I think this one’s going to be really popular online in western circles. It seems to have all the same elements that drew people to Attack on Titan. Blood, violence, man’s inhumanity to man, etc. It’s animated in the same style, it even has the same guy doing the music. And it’s running in noitaminA which is a show of confidence too. Assuming the plot is decent and the pacing is good (Attack on Titan’s pacing was awful) it could be big. I like it a lot so far. Definitely looks like a regular, possibly the most promising show I’ve seen so far.Hey taybies,
I got a JB offer email for 50% off a Panasonic SC-ALL5CD wireless speaker system, which claims to only be valid for purchasing one. I kinda want two. Did anyone else get this offer they’d be willing to send me the voucher code for? I don’t know how JB’s emails work, so it’s possible the offer only came to me because I’ve been searching for similar things, but fingers crossed.
