Good morning! Looking forward to giving DS3 a go this week and perhaps finally breaking my inability to understand the From adulation. Gonna go deep on this one
Yup, am looking forward to DS3.
Watched all the prepare to cry series again yesterday to bring myself up to speed and refresh my memories of all the NPC’s and their stories as much as possible (its been a while since I played the first 2 games) .
I don’t normally get hyped, but when I do I get reeeaaaaal hyped (lets hope there is no let down)
Yeah, I think with DS2 and Bloodborne (the other From titles I’ve tried) I skipped over the lore a bit too quickly and as such couldn’t get immersed in the world. Difficulty alone isn’t enough to keep me engaged so this time I’m gonna try reading everything.
Same, it wasn’t until after I had watched all the lore videos over the weekend I realized how much I had missed/forgotten, and this is coming from someone with Demon Souls experience (so I definitely was paying attention)
I woke up in vomit.
“Your vomit, or… someone else’s?”
Yes.
What.
I woke up in vomit.
“Your vomit, or… someone else’s?”
Yes.
It was a statement, not a question, Saturday
You can’t really dust for vomit.
I spent Saturday writing, tooling around in miitomo, then playing silent hill shattered memories at night (in lieu of watching a David lynch film). It’s as great as I remember, especially the torch effects and creepy wiimote phone calls.
On Sunday I got hit in the face by the rail of a surf board, which split my lip and nearly cost me two teeth.
Water was super clear though, and the waves weren’t too bad.
Now I’m at work with a sore neck, and a bottom lip so swollen It’s in my peripheral vision.
Hey Everyone. I’ve decided that getting the bookmarks printed up myself doesn’t seem to be an option. So, I’ve found a website called cowcow.com but the store requires a html colour scheme. I am terrible at html colour schemes. Can anyone help me?
https://www.easycalculation.com/colorconverter/rgb-coder.php
I need help picking colours, not just putting it into code =P
Can’t you just get the RGB colour values from the ones you’ve made, and convert them to html colours? Or are you trying to create a store page that you need colours for?
It’s for the store page. I should have been clearer
https://coolors.co/browser
Any ones you would suggest?
Anything, really. If you want to make your own, you can try the Coolors generator: https://coolors.co/app
Or alternatively, this one http://paletton.com/ is pretty good too. PIck a start colour and it will show you the Adjacent, Triad, or Tetrad values associated and generates a palette from there.
I am so bad at this D=
Start with Paletton. Click the circle with 4 dots on it (Tetrad) – here’s one I did.
http://paletton.com/#uid=74g270kllllaFw0g0qFqFg0w0aF
On the outer wheel is a dark dot in the purples, if you hover over it then it will say “Primary Colour”
Drag that around the outer circle until you find a primary colour you like. Watch as the palette changes accordingly.
Once you hit a primary colour you like, you can start to fine tune the palette. For example, don’t like the secondary colour / tertiary colours? Change the angle (default 30 degrees) to suit. I chose 135 degrees so I could get secondaries in the blue.
Finally, click the “Presets” button to adjust the saturation – I chose Pastel because I think it works best for colour schemes. Not too saturated, not too light.
Your final colour values will be up the top right.
I meant I am terrible at picking colour schemes and making decisions.
To make things harder, the bookmarks have a variety of backgrounds.
Fair enough, can’t help you on the making decisions part. 😛
I might pick a couple and make a shortlist when I get home. Then ask for people’s opinions on here
Just a warning – if you upload images to cowcow, there’s a good chance you could find them using them without your permission on other stuff. Happened recently to a facebook run group I’m in who used cowcow to make some custom tshirts. The images started popping up in cowcow adverts and the whole lot had to be pulled from the site.
I was going to use cafepress but apparently they’re no better. Anything I upload to cafepress makes them the owner of the image.
Zazzle is out of the question as well, so it doesn’t leave me with a lot of options
Good morning all, how are we?
I started on a game currently on early access called Battlefleet Gothic: Armada, looks REALLY good at the moment, the detail is incredible, runs smoothly and the combat is bloody awesome. If anyone is into tactical RTS ship combat of the 41st Millenium of Warhammer where positioning and individual ship tactics play an important role, I’d highly suggest having a look at this.
That came up on my Steam queue too. Looked a bit too hectic for me. But certainly had a distinctive feel to the videos.
I’m early in the campaign and I’ve only got 3 ships to use, so it’s not too hectic for me, yet. It’s got a good amount of depth but it’s not at drowning levels, if that makes sense. The most I’ve been doing so far is setting fighting styles (Which you can do before you even begin moving), this gives options such as fighting using certain sides of your ship (Like broadsides) and preferred attack range, so you can get the most out of your weapons and get a better advantage if you know their weapons. Then you set your ship’s targets, which is mainly just a right-click-to-attack RTS thing, but what’s more is you can left click your target and set a focus like weapons or engines.
Then after the stage has all been set, you could attempt to micromanage your ships as most attacks can be dodged if you’re familiar with how your ship can maneuver, like taking sharp turns to dodge the majority of the enemy’s fire, and a personal favourite if you’re an Ork fan, you can actually ram ships with your own as well if your ship is good for that. There’s more and I’ve yet to discover it, it’ll take some getting used to on controlling everything but I’m confident that I can get it. Low-level micro I know I can master with practice, and thankfully this is very far from Starcraft levels of micro 🙂
I’ve been keeping an eye on it for sure, I’ve always been aware of BFG through my years of reading/playing 40K, but never done much with it.
For now though, I’m holding off buying anything until I get back from NYC/Hawaii in June.
Hyper light drifter! What a revelation 🙂
Morning all! My weekend was pretty ok all things considered!
First off, I finished my latest drawing! Or rather, finished to a point that I was happy to leave it for while. Could do with a few tweaks and a bit more detail in sections, but I’m happy enough with it for now.
Decided to open an Artstation account and upped it there.
https://www.artstation.com/artwork/aLwY8
Should get around to adding more stuff one day, but that will require digging through some old hard drives.
I also managed to make it to the @sughly and @freezespreston Birthday meat! Got to meet @Greenius for the first time too! Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to stay for long, cos 5 mins before I was due to head there, my dad rang me and asked if he could drop off a bunch of stuff cos he was heading back down to Port Macquarie.
Still, it was great to go and be social for even the little while that I was able to 🙂 Great to see many familiar faces again, along with some new ones! Can’t wait to do it again properly after I’ve had my operation!
Apart from that, I mucked about with some music stuff, and played some more Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 3. Now that I don’t have the drawing on my mind, I’m gonna try and get some more game time in, and get back to making some music! Yay!
Morning all,
How was everyone’s weekend? Mine was good, just the usual stuff, beach volley, rowing and reading.
I finally had some time to play Quantum Break and Division. For some reason when I was playing QB, all I wanted my character to do is dive and shoot, you know MP style and it didn’t. It has some new and unique slow mo effects but no diving style shooting, a bit let down. Overall, the story is like in between average and lame and shooting mechanics are not great.
Division had no new daily missions which sucked. I wonder if the new content turn out to be pretty average, how long this game will last?
The Division seems to have a reasonably tight schedule for the major DLC drops, so hopefully it lasts a reasonable amount of time. I must say, my dropoff rate for The Division is quicker than that for Destiny, so losing a little bit of hope.
Yeah, the drop rates are way better than Destiny. However there’s something missing? Something Destiny has? Raids or other styles of PVE? Or may be its me getting burnt out.
First raid (incursion) drops this evening. Hopefully it’s good.
Hopefully? We will find out soon 🙂
Hello peeps! Remember my post last week about feeling ill? Well it seems I caught the flu which in turn brought a few friends in the shape of bronchitis and sinusitis. Doc had me on 5 different meds which took me out of commission for the remainder of the week D=.
However fret not for I have returned! In more or less mint condition… might give it a few more days before I resume my gym routine though….
How’s everyone else?!?
In a really foul mood this morning. I don’t know if it’s because I’m growing to resent my workplace or because my train went around the city circle the wrong way making me late again, but I just can’t shake it off this morning.
Well, I have another interview with another recruiter, so there’s that to look forward to.
Good luck the with recruiter. Hope it leads to some actual jobs.
Hope so. I’ve had one interview with an actual company but they’re probably going to want to do a second round of interviews and while I’m their frontrunner at the moment they seem to think that the job won’t be challenging enough for me.
What field do you work in?
Insurance, specifically been in liability claims for the last 6 years.
Anything here you’re qualified for? https://www.iagcareers.com.au/
Can give you an internal referral if there’s anything of interest. Can also keep an eye out if there’s anything in the liability area that might interest you.
Sadly not really any roles I’d be suited for but I’ll keep an eye out.
I could probably handle any claims except speciality/financial lines as I’ve not had any experience with management/directors & officers liability or unfair dismissal or anything like that. I’ve been trying to move over into retail life claims because that will open up a possible path into group life claims which I think would be a great challenge (and financially lucrative) but the role I’m currently gunning for is with a broker acting as an intermediary across pretty much all lines which I’m hoping will broaden my skillset, make me a little bit more marketable since there really isn’t a lot going on in the liability space at the moment.
Yeah, I figured there wasn’t anything you’d specifically be after. I’ll keep an eye out / ear to the ground for you though.
Thanks man, appreciated.
Went to Good Game Live on Friday night, and got a photo with Bajo and Hex and Nichboy too.
Then spent the entire saturday helping a friend renovate his garage.
Sunday was a write off – too tired to do anything. Ended up starting up a new game of Vampire: Masquerade – Bloodlines. Man that’s a classic.
Wow you went to see live show. No offence to the Good game show, but don’t you think that they need to cater for some adult audience as well. Some of the games that they preview are terrible and what’s up with the tinbox and lame jokes.
I think since they’ve introduced Good Game Spawn point for younger viewers, it’s given them more freedom to structure their main show to be more adult. Recently, their footage hasn’t screened out minor bad language, and they’ve discussed issues of sexuality and mental illness in games.
Sometimes Bajo can be a bit silly, but that’s his thing. His points about games generally have merit, regardless of his wacky delivery. Hex is a nice balanced counter point to his antics.
Goose now also does some editorialising in his “IMO” segments, and they’ve covered issues like DLC and Pre-ordering. I find his essays quite good – articulate and fair.
I personally don’t watch Spawn Point, but I get the tone they’re trying to strike with it – positive and engaging for younger people and supportive of their interest in video games, without really pandering.
Also, did anyone check out that CoD event at Crown Casino this weekend? That kind of came out of nowhere.
Is there a site that tables up all the major eSports events in the city (or country for that matter)? I’m keen to be a bit more involved in the sense of watching some of it, but I can never find out when or where they are.
http://www.kotaku.com.au/2016/03/crown-casino-extends-its-affiliation-with-esports/
Kotaku did make a mention of it before it was sold out/commenced, but obviously you can’t rely on Kotaku to relay that information all the time.
In terms of your question you’re best bet would sadly probably be a gambling site that deals in E-Sports, they usually run extensive lists due to their financial interests in them, apart from that I can’t recall any site that deals it comprehensive E-Sports event news.
Thanks. Yeah I originally found out about it from Kotaku, but like you said it came up fairly late in the piece.
I’d never really thought about using gambling sites, but that makes sense, in a morbid way.
I can’t speak for COD, but I know for Dota there are a bunch of game-specific sites that list all the upcoming tournament games. There have been a few aussie-specific sites that listed local tournies, but the reality of living this far away from the rest of the world is that physical tournaments are almost non-existent.
Man-flu is real and deadly. That is all.
*hugs*
Get well soon, buddy
^^As above!
Day 5 of headache, Which I am now thinking might be a long migraine. Although I had a migraine yesterday so I have no idea whats going on now…
Hey, TAY.
24 hours til Dark Souls 3, and I’m only up to the second boss in the original.
-_-
I don’t know where these weekends keep disappearing to. The Mask was on the other night, I think that might’ve been my first time seeing it since I became old enough to actually understand it. Definitely never noticed that condom joke before 😛 It was funny just how old it seemed, making me think “whoa that wouldn’t fly today” a few times. Spent a bunch of time at the piano for the first time in a good few weeks or so, actually went quite well. Maybe I should try re-learn another piece. Also played through the rest of Kirby Rainbow Curse. So. Damn. Adorable. Especially the extra stuff, like the Secret Diary and the figurines. I was surprised that they were actually modelled in 3D and could be viewed from all angles. Very cool. Challenge mode was a total pain in the bitch though, I don’t think I can think of another game that had me swearing so much or verging on impaling the gamepad with the stylus as a few of those levels. Finally got the last one last night though, so I’m done. 100%, woo 😛 I think Yoshi might be next.
So on Saturday night I got a message from Aerialist, letting me know that she’ll be climbing somewhere else tonight due to looking after dogs/housesitting somewhere closer to the other gym at the moment (and kinda hinting that I should come along). A couple of my friends are pretty sceptical about it all though, saying she’s just trying to get attention. “Beware the friend collector!” I dunno though, it’s kinda hard to see it. Like, a lot of the things she says sound like the kind of thing I would say? But then maybe I am an attention-seeking friend collector too and just don’t realise it 😛 There was more messaging convo over Sunday, ending with her saying “maybe see you at alternagym tomorrow night?” I said I’d like to but kinda need to talk to one of the other guys about some stuff. And offered a raincheck. I mean it’s not exactly untrue 😛
This game is hard.
OH YEAH I discovered that some chilli seeds that I threw out into one of the empty pots in the backyard seem to have survived and look like they’re growing quite well, unlike the ones I had inside. Woo, thriving on neglect!
Sounds like my sex life! /o\
My dating life in general 😛
The amount of popcorn I consume determined that was a lie.
It only thrives when I do nothing! Otherwise nothing happens.
Treat em mean, keep em keen! =P
Started playing The Witcher 3 at like 7.30 on Saturday night. Next thing I know, it’s 2am, and my girlfriend is yelling at me because I need to be up by 7 to do grown up stuff.
tl;dr – Being an adult sucks, but Witcher 3 is awesome.
Withcer 3 is indeed awesome – I spent a lot of the weekend alternating between beating the crap out of monsters for cash, and beating the crap out of innkeepers at cards. Dandelion + 3-4x Bluestripes in nearly every hand is amazing. 😀
I haven’t gotten up to the card game yet, but I’m assuming your gibberish will eventually make sense 😛
You should be playing Gwent against everyone you meet! That way you get to take their cards.
I assume this is a form of fear-inspired Witcher-bullying, because if you lose, you don’t give any of your cards to your opponent; only the other way around.
This is shown very clearly on the crestfallen face of anyone you challenge to Gwent, as they sigh and realize there’s nothing in this for them beyond the possibility of a few crowns and losing their favourite cards, to avoid having a Witcher chop them literally in half or mind-control them.
I only just killed the griffin, I don’t even know what gwent is yet.
I forgot how huge the tutorial zone is. Yeah, that can take a few hours.
A warning for when you get to it – The starting deck is pretty terrible, and it can be discouraging – I didn’t actually start playing gwent at all until I was about 60 hours in because of it – but you should quickly be able to win or buy a few good cards you can combo, which hints at the promise of the game at later levels.
Also, check every merchant you see. They sometimes sell Gwent cards!

(Doublepost)
Doing some research into what I’m gonna do for my Halloween Costume.
Planning on dressing up as good ol’ Ragnar from Vikings. Gonna go the full mile with getting Henna Tattoos along with shaving the sides of my head and getting extensions for the ‘pony tail’ in an attempt to try and blend the seasons 2-4 Ragnar together.
Oh, and blood capsules. Definitely gotta get those for the beetle leaf Ragnar.Double “oh yeah”, the Kirby soundtrack is pretty excellent.
Though I now have the bonus/challenge level music stuck on infinite loop in my head, probably thanks to spending my last 15 hours with the game listening to just about that alone.
Dodododo, do… dodododo, do…
Morning!
Been rewatching Peep Show on Stan over the last few days. Goddamn it’s funny. So awkward but so funny. It’s great.
I also wanted to try and finish Bravely Second before Dark Souls 3 came out, but… Man that game is long. I thought I was finished and then it’s all “Ha, actually you’re only half done!”. Fun though.
Saw BvS on Friday night.
It was … about as good as expected. Except for Batman, not sure why people are raving about him. Having just binged Daredevil S2 last week, to me he was like a slightly shittier Punisher rather than Batman.
Edit: Oh, also started watching Seven Deadly Sins. Now 19 episodes in. It’s pretty good.
Voice-synthesizer is a big part of it (no more actor-throat-straining ‘batman voice’), and he’s a LOT less jovial than the Punisher. More stoic, seems like he knows what he’s doing more. Punisher seemed to be improvising a lot in DD. Irons kills it as Alfred, too.
Jeremy Irons is the best Alfred (sorry Michael Caine).
Nothing too movie specific but going to spoiler it at this point to be safe.
Too much time wielding a rifle for my liking.Actually, now that I think about what makes Batman *Batman*, I think I’ve put my finger on it.
No villains. When I try to think about Batman-like actions all I can think of is foiling Batman universe villains.
He’s utterly out of place in this Superman movie. He can’t be Batman if he doesn’t have some sort of nemesis.
Batman’s not an interesting character, he’s an interesting foil for the villains he comes up against.
Oh man Seven Deadly Sins was an anime that came out of nowhere for me, 2 episodes in I knew I was going to enjoy the crap out of it!
I was just looking for something to watch at random while resetting my 3DS, it popped up in the Netflix queue / feed / whatever the hell their menu is. Saw the 5 star rating, recalled that it had been mentioned here but I hadn’t paid attention, thought why not.
Probably would have finished the lot except I researched the first 7 with company…
The Netflix setting that skips opening credits is a little annoying because there might be 20 seconds of new content on the end of each recap.
Seven Deadly Sins is fucking great. The only reason it didn’t get more attention is that it got licensed by fucking Netflix halfway into its run, and Netflix are grade-A oceanfaring pillocks when it comes to anime, so the show basically disappeared from everywhere for the second half and didn’t resurface until about 6 months after it was done when Netflix pulled their finger out to make it available all in one go because they can’t support any model of viewing other than binge watching 🙁 They’ve killed a few shows with this approach – Knights of Sidonia is another excellent one they basically buried by licensing it.
Anyway, this is my way of saying: there’s a second season later this year! And you won’t be able to watch it until 2017 because Netflix are basically the worst company in the world when it comes to anime licensing.
Upvote for second season! I’ll wait! =P
Had a pretty good weekend – 30% hinting down monsters in Wticher 3, 30% playing innkeeps at Gwent, and 30% catching up on DragonBall Super. Got to Skellige last week, and have resolved the central story there, but only two missions into the Ciri stuff there. Was wandering around and found a ghost who dropped a Wild Hunt blade, tho… maybe I should get back to the main questline? 😛
Aside: Anyone having issues opening links in new tabs on here in Chrome? The past week or so, every Ctrl+click or middle click to open in a new tab has bounced off Chrome’s popup blocker.
Yeah I’m having the same issue with Chrome. Can’t be version related either because I’m on Version 30.0.1599.66 m – which is ages old.
It’s happening to me way more than usual now, it’s getting a bit annoying.
Hi all, B-ob’s week in review.
Subterfuge! I won a 10 player brawl. Was great. I ended up totally dominating the battlefield thanks to some good diplomacy, some lucky specialists (2 tycoons and a foreman for my first few hires), and some savvy tactics. Probably the best I’ve ever played, tbh.
Put a bunch of “new” albums on my phone, need to transfer them to my work USB. How’s this for a reflection of my musical tastes…. Hootie & The Blowfish, Sublime, Cage The Elephant, Blues Traveler, Nikki Yanofsky. Oh, also added to my burgeoning vinyl collection by picking up ELO’s Out of the Blue. Love that gatefold.
Sorry I missed the two and a half birthTAY housewarming. Wasn’t feeling up to leaving the house or doing anything on Saturday. Hope everybody had a good time.
On a related note, want to ask people’s advice on what to do about a friend of mine. Spoilered for personal details / wall o’ text.
So a friend of mine whom I’ve known for … 14 years? and pretty much the only person I know from my life in Adelaide (when I left Adelaide I cut myself off from all aspects of my old life) has been driving me up the wall and I’m starting to think it’s time to cut this friendship loose. We’ve always had a turbulent friendship. Dated for a couple years, 13 years ago, didn’t work out, remained friends. The thing is the friendship can be very draining with the amount of effort needed to keep things going… and a lot of that has to do with some of her problems / addictions. It seems these days that every time we catch up she ends up getting completely written off, does something stupid or offensive and then we end up not talking for months until enough water passes under the bridge. I think she’s an alcoholic and I’m only just coming to acknowledge it myself, and acknowledge that I’m an enabler. That’s part of what is making me think it’s better for everybody if I cut the friendship. Then I feel bad for not supporting her or giving her the help she needs but then at the same time if it’s not coming from her it’s not her taking responsibility for her life.
Example: Friday we caught up for the first time in months (since my bipolar II diagnosis at least, so pre-November) and played Cards Against Humanity with some of her other friends. Was a good time. When the game was over, since we hadn’t caught up in a while we decided to continue having a couple drinks and gossip at my place (short walk) which was pretty much fine. Except when I cut myself off around midnight she kept pouring. We keep talking, things get more and more silly and I’m nearly asleep around 2 am when I realise that it IS 2 am and she’s still going and has no intention of stopping. I tell her it’s time to go to bed, but she says “Just one more drink” – I get up and see that she’s literally poured a half full glass of gin (probably around 150ml) as “one more drink”.
I tell her enough is enough. She’s welcome to stay (she wanted to come to the vinyl fair the next morning) but she needs to go to bed now. If not, I’ll call her an Uber, but those are her only options. Sleep, or leave. She decides to leave in a huff, and when I’m going around turning off lights, closing curtains, etc, I realise she’s decided to take a full bottle of 60% ABV gin for her troubles. Call her out on it, tell her she has a problem, she admits she took it in anger, and I tell her she’s an adult and needs to start acting like it. That’s the last I’ve heard.
So that’s where I’m at. I accept my responsibility in enabling her addiction, and that she needs help, but I just don’t know that I’m the one to give it to her. I can’t be the rock for everybody, especially when I’m still working out my own footing… and I just don’t know what to do. Advice? Please?
(Jeez that turned out to be much more than I expected. Sorry. Obviously needed to get that out.)
Cut her off, but be nice about it. Let her know that her drinking is a problem and the reason you are cutting her off, but you would be happy to resume the friendship if she gets it under control (assuming you want to?).
Life’s too short to keep unnecessary drama like that in your life.
Yeah, that’s pretty much where my mind had landed on. I.e. “I’m no longer willing to have you in my life at this stage, talk to me when you hit Step 8 / 9 of a 12 step.”
A few years ago I had a similar moment where I took a look around all the people around me and I started asking myself do I still really want to be friends with some of these people or am I just doing it for the familiarity and to avert the risk of being alone. I kind of had a pretty stark couple of days because after taking this little look at my friend’s circle I realized two of my closest friends were on the edge of becoming drug addicts, another was dropping in and out of contact and engaging in ummm questionable behaviour. Without realizing it I had outgrown quite a few people in my life but they were still tagging along for the ride because they’d been there a few years ago.
I guess what I’m trying to say here is only you can know for sure if having this friend in your life is worth it or not. And sometimes you can just outgrow your friends as your priorities and experiences in life change you. At the end of the day you want to be around people who enrich your life (and vice versa).
You’re a caring guy, and that will be causing you some of your anxiety in this regard, but you really need to do what’s best for you first and foremost. Until you feel that you have a good handle on your own needs and mental wellbeing, I’m not sure how much help you’d be to her anyway.
As @cffndncr said, don’t necessarily need to completely cut off all possible contact for the future, but definitely give both of you a lot of space to work things out.
Not a good situation to find yourself in, and I hope that whatever the outcome is that it is something you can look back on with minimal regret.
You don’t need to completely cut her off, and it’s good that you’ve recognised that she really can’t control herself and you need to take some responsibility for how you interact with her. You can set boundaries for future meetings – lunch or coffee, no alcohol will be consumed. If she’s only happy to see you if you’re pouring her drinks, then chances are she will end the relationship anyway, because you’re of no use to her anymore. Remember that addicts can be very manipulative and will use people as long as they’re getting what they want. I don’t think you need to offer her help, esp given you have your own stuff that you’re working on.You can also call a counselling line yourself, and see what advice they have.

Hi
Hi Mr Jimu! Was great to see you again!! That’s like 2 meets in a row!! Pretty sure that’s some kind of miracle!!
It’s a Meatmuss miracle!
Oh wow. Big news of shift at work, no idea what it means for me down the line. Well, not til after the big wave of customer questions and complaints. Eh, that’s Future Me’s problem 😛
TAY RPG Pathfinder on tonight where everyone is now off daylight savings. Woo! We’ll start from 8pm AEST and 8:30pm ACST if that suits everyone.
@redartifice @tech_knight @freezespreston @beeawwb
I’ll be there!
Yep should be good to go 🙂
Horrible Easter long weekend
Doctors called and told us to come say goodbyes to my mother in law on Easter Monday.
She passed on the Tuesday (29/3/16)
I miss her
Also
Fuck cancer, fuck cancer and fuck cancer
Did I say fuck cancer? Because fuck cancer
Fuck cancer
Last song played was The City of Blinding Riots by Filter
Fuck cancer
Feel for you. My mum was given 6 months to live due to cancer, that was 4 years ago and luckily she is still around. But we are still prepared for literally any moment getting a call like yours. Sucks.
We only found out around a month ago (little more than a month) that she even had cancer.
We got the call and went to the hospital, and for the most part we didn’t leave till the end
I had to go home and sleep, and then when I came back Tuesday morning, others left to go sleep, and then she passed.
Sucks
Thanks
Sorry to hear about your loss dude :\ It’s never easy losing a loved one… especially when there’s next to no notice.
Thanks, yeah no real notice at all, even when she passed it was sudden.
I was there, and she just…didn’t breathe again
Dude, so sorry to hear that.
My Mam passed from cancer last September.
Right there with you buddy. If you need to talk, I can listen.
Fuck cancer.
Thanks, I’m doing ok
I just wish there was a charity called “Fuck Cancer”, and more importantly, that it didn’t have to censor it’s name
Upvote because fuck cancer, not because of the other part 🙁
It’s happened. Hell has frozen over.
Games Workshop have put up some box sets that are actually really good value.
Batton down the hatches, it’s about to start raining toads.
I don’t believe you :p
New HQ choice set – Includes a librarian, company master/captain and a previously-box-exclusive chaplain all for $50.
The librarian and captain are usually $30 each alone. The chaplain model had been selling on ebay for up to $100.
Absolutely insane value if you’re starting off a force.
Actually not too bad. Shame I got out of Warhammer and now split my time between Gunpla and Warmachine/Hordes.
Was considering Warmachine a little while ago, then realised that a lot of the models are just as if not more expensive than 40k. Was blown away.
Granted, the armies are much smaller, though…
No they’re not.
Oh – well I suppose those price tags I was reading were telling lies 😛
My Necron Lord is mostly done, I gotta put that up online tonight, it’s impressed even my skilled painter friend so I’m proud of this one 🙂
Nice!
Great work mate – can’t wait to see it.
I’ve started adding some chevrons to my Imperial Knight’s chainsword… such a pain.
Now it’s mostly doing the weapons then the Stalker… *shudders* that’s going to take a while
Give us pictures!
They’re at home at the moment, I’ll send them over to you tonight, that’s a promise
Here you go!
=O very nice! The cape would’ve been especially painful!
I had to repaint the sections on that cape twice cuz I kept going too far with the brush and colouring the wrong spots.
Eugh I hate you people that can paint. My process for painting Necrons goes a little something like this:
Undercoat black
Drybrush gunmetal grey
Attempt to highlight raised areas in gold
End up blotching gold everywhere
Reapply gunmetal grey, ruining the drybrush effect
Try highlighting again
Fail highlighting again
Cry quietly in the corner
Reapply gunmetal grey
Succeed in painting some of the highlights, but totally botch most of them
Pretend I’m happy with the final result, while reevaluating life choices
This is actually my first time painting miniatures, I’m mainly just using a white base spray, then covered it in Ironbelcher spraypaint, then with the brush using as thin amount of paint as possible to keep it neat and preserve the detail on the models. If you’re having issues trying to avoid botching what you hit with the paint, hold your breath while holding the model and brush. that’s what how I’m doing the Necron ankh, the eyes and the inside of the ribcage, making them green.
Haha yeah, I haven’t painted for years, gave up because I was so bad at it. Converting and playing games was always more appealing for me, painting was just a chore that needed to be done because my local GW store wouldn’t let you play with unpainted models.
I tried all the tricks, but there’s only so much you can do as a clutz with 0 fine motor skills.
I’m a clutz too, I’ve made many a puddle of paint on the table I have been working with these on 😛 I’m actually finding this painting fun and relaxing to do
@tech_knight I actually found Necrons to be pretty forgiving in terms of painting – you don’t need to be a professional miniature painter to get half-decent results.
My Chaos army, on the other hand, would have been a serious contender for worst painted army of all time.
Anyone else that reads the US Kotaku find that there is almost no original content on the Aus one that was not pulled over from the yanks? And even then sometimes it seems like days later Aus Kotaku even gets the stories posted over there..
…people read Kotaku US?
Essentially the same as Kotaku Aus you just get the articles 48 hours in advance. Though I refuse to read the comments on the US site and stick to Aus for that.
Awful comments, awful layout, none of the AU content. I’m not seeing an upside 😛
This is true. And if @andy cares about timing, he should probably just visit reddit and imgur instead, given that’s where many of the stories seem to originate. 🙂
And yet it does not have the stupid that is one massive page of constant scrolling. That alone is enough to give US+1 over Aus. At least let us turn the silly thing off. And as far as the content, 95% of it here is from the US page anyway..
Ok so 95% is an exaggeration but there are days it feels like I am seeing the same stuff I saw yesterday or the day before. Over and over.
I dunno about several days… usually same day, when I’ve been checking. Weekends are probably a different beast, I guess.
If you’re after oz-original content, I recommend searching by author (Eg: http://www.kotaku.com.au/author/alexwalker/). Anything by Alex Walker, Junglist, Mark Serrels, Logan Booker, (and I guess sometimes some copy-pastes from LH/Giz from uh… Spandas Lui, Campbell Simpson, and some others I can’t remember?) is going to be written by an Aussie. (Edit: I forgot Hayley Williams!)
Doing that should probably net you a good half-dozen to a dozen things to read a day, between them. Seems to vary a bit, but it’s a fair few. I’d say Alex is probably the more prolific if you don’t count Mark’s ’round-up regulars’.
There’s the AU tag too – http://www.kotaku.com.au/tags/au/
We work really hard to make sure there’s plenty of local content! And @andy if there’s something you’d like to see, just ping me directly and I’ll look into it! (Also don’t forget Rae Johnston from Giz — her work appears here from time to time too.)
Ahh, boo, I knew I’d probably forgotten someone. Yeah, ta. 🙂
Anyway, the general point was there definitely quite a few folks in the Oz offices knocking out a decent rate of pieces per day, and it really shows if you actually do author searches, where the articles are broken up by day.
Good on you guys.
They don’t actually syndicate all the US content. There’s some of it they drop every now and then because of relevance etc. It’s on about a 1-2 hour delay if that. Plus the AU site is way easier to read and more functional and has a lot less shitposting in the comments.
Good weekend apart from going to Canberra on Friday for a job on Saturday, only to get the call cancelling the job when I was ALREADY IN CANBERRA.
So I went to the office, kicked about for a couple of hours then went home.
Had an amazingly good weekend.
Worked Saturday morning then Mrs Tigs came into the office with Tiglet and we went out for lunch. Wen tiglet went down we made some go progress with Alice.
Sunday was baby and kids market so we stocked up on some games but most importantly we found some swobbles. SWOBBLES! For 2 bucks each, amazing.
Tiglet also turned on the charm and got herself a big soft turtle with a fishy fishy belly for free.
Then it was Paris Roubaix and OMFG that was incredible. I was so pumped by the end that I has struggling not to wake the house/neighbourhood. Ended up getting to be way late before I got to bed but it is such an amazing race.
The only down side of the weekend was Tiglet was a little sick Sunday night but even that meant I got nice squeezey cuddles and she seems fine after a nights rest.
So I originally started with a goal of getting all the Steely Dan albums on vinyl, just because. I’m down to my last of the “core” albums (need to find 1973’s “Countdown to Ecstasy”) – not counting the 2000 / 2004 albums, as they’ll be more “specialist” releases….
Anyway. Since I’m down to just 1 album left, I’m thinking I should put together a list of other vinyl I’m looking for. Help me curate it!
NB: A lot of these will be recreating my Dad’s vinyl collection that I remember from when I was a kid, marked with *
*Beatles: Magical Mystery Tour
*Beatles: Sgt Pepper
Bruce Springsteen – Nebraska
Dire Straits: Alchemy
Donald Fagen: Kamakiriad / Morph The Cat / Sunken Condos (likely specialist, as ’93/’06/’12)
*Eagles: One of These Nights
*Eagles: Hotel California
*Jim Croce: You Don’t Mess Around With Jim
*Jimmy Hendrix: Axis: Bold as Love
*Kingston Trio: At Large
Oscar Peterson: Night Train
*Pink Floyd: The Dark Side of the Moon
Queen – News of the World
*Simon & Garfunkle: Sounds of Silence
Spyro Gira: Morning Music
Steely Dan: Countdown to Ecstasy
Dad gave away his copy of Hotel California to my cousin decades ago. Shame.
Pretty sure we’ve still got Dark Side of the Moon and Sounds of Silence somewhere. Don’t think he’d be willing to part with them though.
Haha, yeah I’m not suggesting people sell me their records, although I’d be open to that. More… what albums would you get on vinyl, if you could? Could be for any reason. Good album, good artwork, highly sought after, etc.
If I didn’t already have it, Queen’s News of the World.
Excellent album, but the artwork gave me nightmares as a child. Just like in that Family Guy episode.
Yes that is freaky-ass artwork, and I haven’t added any Queen albums yet sooooooo it’s on!
Also now I’m listening to it at work. Because Queen.
Good man.
I’m having a good time. (Finished NotW, moved on to Jazz)
Skipped “The Game” and “Hot Space” and moved on to “A Kind of Magic”
I think Nebraska- Bruce Springsteen would be good on vinyl
I’m not familiar with that particular one, which I think in this case strikes me as a good thing since I’m not usually a fan of “The Boss” – Google also suggests it would be up my alley. It’s on the list!
Also I saw some Oscar Peterson records… got a fave?
Night Train. Really solid album, and has Hymn to Freedom, one of my favourite jazz pieces ever
Only problem is you cant hear on it much of one of my favourite Oscar Peterson things, which is that he hums along while he plays when he is enjoying himself
There is a disturbing lack of ELO in this list. If I was building a vinyl collection, ELO’s Time or Out of the Blue would be my first purchases.
See Twitter.
I’ll try and keep this list handy for when I’m op-shopping. We have some good stores around here and you never know what you’ll find.
I’m actually thinking I’m going to sync it to my Dropbox so that it’s always on my phone and updated and I can add to it from any device.
Soooooo…..
Here it is.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ydgh5r5svqjm94h/VinylShoppingList.txt?dl=0
I have Dark Side of The Moon somewhere, also have The Wall. Man gatefold albums were the shit. Wish more CD’s came like that.
I know, right? Something so great about those elaborate pieces of artwork that only enhances the album itself.
Agreed! Also legible lyric sheets are great too. But seeing the artwork in the larger size is great, can see all the detail!
And especially when they actually put thought and care in to the artwork.
Ah yes. Rather than just a shitty picture of the band with a few filters thrown over it.
I played through the Battleborn beta. Meh.
Might as well say this first, there’s only one real reason why I have no desire to buy this game and that’s because there’s no Australian servers… again.
This makes it annoying and a lot harder when you’re playing as a sniper class in a game with no hit scan weapons. Not only do you need to lead your shots but you have to lead the lead of your shots. I almost gave up on Smite because of this reason, but they eventually added in Australian servers.
The gameplay and mechanics feel really good. But the design is just uninteresting. All the characters seem to be trying too hard to be memorable. The aesthetic is just so busy. Explosions and magic go off so often that the only real way to know anything is happening is by watching red bars deplete.
Even so, it would have been a game I’d be interested in playing… except without Australian servers I see no reason to disadvantage myself at 90 bucks.
Watched a bit of Giant Bomb playing it on Unprofessional Fridays last week and it looked insanely boring. I also find I really don’t like Gearbox’s brand of character humor any more. Borderlands wore it down completely for me I think.
Oh, if you thought the humour died in Borderlands, just wait until you play story mode. Every single line is just a joke. They aren’t just simply telling you what to do, they’re doing it in zany and random ways.
One mission has you escorting a robot to blow itself up. However, the robot thinks he won’t be dying from it while all the other characters keep assuring him that he won’t. He repeats, over and over again, how he’s not going to die from blowing himself up. It was funny the first time, by the end I was rolling my eyes.
Another mission has you fighting a mid boss giant robot who thinks he’s a spider. That’s the joke.
Yep, sounds like Borderlands ‘humor’. Dumb memes and forced jokes.
They should have given Battleborn to Australia to make. They improved everything wrong about Borderlands in their pre-sequel.
Shame they shitcanned the entire Australian studio after they finished it. 🙁
So I made my best dad joke yet last night. I was talking about vocal ranges with my girlfriend, and she’s like ‘do you even know what a tenor is?’
To which I replied – ‘sure, it’s between a fiver and a twenty’.
One of us. One of us.
V.I.D.E.O.G.A.M.E.S
Vastly in debt except other guys are more encumbered, sadly.
This is my video game experience, yes.
Henceforth this shall be the official backronym.
Woo, found someone to buy my Tomb Raider key!
Glad that’s finally over 😛 Now gonna get Radial-G to complete the trade.
Speaking of, I still have a Steam copy of the first Tomb Raider (as in the recent reboot, the prequel to Rise of The Tomb Raider) to give away to a loving home.
@beeawwb
What do you think of this colour scheme
http://paletton.com/palette.php?uid=54e0u0kllllaFw0g0qFqFg0w0aF
It’s based on purple, therefore I love it.
All seriousness though, yeah, it’s good. I don’t know if you saw the “Examples” where it can generate webpages / art based on the colours scheme and I think it works for all of them.
If you’re happy with it then it can also export CSS etc for you.
Purple is damn awesome!
It can? I have no idea how to move it over, so that’s good =P
Yep! Click “Tables/Export” in the bottom left and it’ll export as your choice of HTML / CSS / LESS? / SASS? / XML / Text
That just gives me the colours, but doesn’t tell me where they go
In… the places? With the things?
No idea, sorry.
The letters! They overwhelm me!
I feel like making something cosplay-related since I have no internet and am just watching TV when I’m not at work (and I have a huge warehouse full of power tools to use) but I don’t know what. I’m not hyper into any games like you guys 🙁 And I find that sad. I miss being right into a game.
Cho Aniki
There is some Bloodborne cosplay happening for PAX. Even if you don’t end up going, why not make yourself a Kirkhammer or a Saw Cleaver just because?
MegaZord. Go!
Time for one of the final rounds (for a bit) of…
NegativeZero’s Anime Impressions
Watching the new season so you don’t have to
This basically finishes off most of the new stuff. There’s a few stragglers still so there may be a bonus impressions installment in a week or two. Previous part on Old Tay (posted late on Sunday night AU time so probably got missed by most but you might want to since I suspect that Kotetsujou no Kabaneri may appeal to a lot of folks, though not sure if you can get it in AU – it’s an Amazon Prime exclusive here in the US 🙁 )
12-sai Chchanna Mune no Tokimeki
I’m fairly sure I’m on an FBI watch list after viewing this. Basically a shoujo ‘facts of life’ series aimed at preteen girls. It seems well made for what it is but I probably shouldn’t even admit to having watched it. Next episode it looks like the Class Bitch is going to step up her bullying campaign on the main character because she stole her ‘boyfriend’ (aka one-sided crush) but our heroine is probably going to be too busy being embarrassed about the fact he let slip in class that they kissed once. Yeah. I’m pretty sure I’m not the target audience.Hai-Furi
Aka High School Fleet. Requires a fair bit of suspension of disbelief and is clearly aimed at the Naval / Anime otaku crossover crowd that goes in for KanColle and Arpeggio and hey, that’s basically me! Japan seems to have flooded – global warming or something. The main character and her friend want to become BLUE MERMAIDS (it is important to shout this apparently) who are basically female naval officers. So they enroll in navy school. Which is like high school for girls. But they’re assigned to be the crews of warships. And by warships I mean this is basically all a pretense for putting a bunch of high school girls in charge of the ships of the IJN. On their first day they find out their postings – Akeno’s friend Moeka is now the captain of the Musashi, but Akeno has been assigned captaincy of the Harekaze, a Destroyer that in the shots I saw looked basically like a production model Shimakaze (yes, this show is in my wheelhouse). After arriving late to navigation exercises due to problems en route with their boilers, their instructor suddenly begins to open fire on them, and when they don’t stop and realize that live ammo is being fired at them, Akeno has the Harekaze fire a torpedo that damages the other ship and escape in the confusion, only for their ship to be declared as having mutinied and gone rogue. I really like the look of this overall. Solid cast, super cute character art and solidly in my strike zone content-wise. Also despite that description, it’s got a pretty light tone. I’d compare it to Girls und Panzer overall. Definitely a regular for me.Joker Game
Dunno about this. The way it was pitched made it sound like a 1930s pre-WW2 spy thing, but it might be a bit nationalistic for me. Also had a ton of dialogue with the anime navel-gazing bullshit about tricking people. The setup is that the government set up a school to train deep cover spies, starting with hundreds of candidates they’ve narrowed it down to just eight who all seem to be basically rotten to the core. The main character is a Japanese Army lieutenant who has been sent to report on the school’s progress. It seems well-made but I didn’t feel like I really wanted to watch more. Perhaps another episode to see if it’s just a slow starter.Netoge no Yome wa Onnanoko ja nai to Omotta?
Cringe. Otaku wish-fulfillment show, and one of the worst types too. Nerdy guy plays online games and watches anime and one time he confessed to someone in-game and it turned out it was a dude but now a girl in his guild confessed to him and his guild meets online and it turns out they’re all cute girls from his school and he’s somehow fallen into a relationship with a nerdy girl who is also smoking hot. Come on. Also talk about asshole titles, it’s basically ‘you thought there were no girls on the internet?’ I think a lot of my dislike for this sort of thing is that I can kind of relate a bit. :\Pan de Peace
4 minute moeblob show about girls that like baking bread. Also the episode opens with a chick eating egg and strawberry jam sandwiches which sounds fairly awful.Sakamoto desu ga
Show about a guy that’s super popular and stylish and perfect at everything so people try and bully him but every time they end up just making him look cooler. It was amusing but not something I’d watch more than an episode of.Sansha Sanyou
Incredibly boring show about 3 girls that are cute and do cute things together. No hook, no plot, no point. Well animated (especially the first few minutes) but that’s literally the only thing it’s got going. Even the cast is a trio of nobodies that I assume are idols doing anime on the side to try and boost their popularity.Seisen Cerberus
Generic, unremarkable if unoffensive fantasy show. Looks like a bungled attempt at sealing away a dragon by a dude and his wife causes their a kid to get it embedded in his body and now he’s training to be a swordsman to fight it. Eh. Could be worse. Doesn’t have some of the more annoying anime tropes at least. Maybe a 3-ep check to see how it unfolds before I drop it.Twin Star Exorcists
Fairly standard shounen action anime. Main character is a former Onmyouji who gave up on it after failing an exorcism and getting a bunch of people killed, or at least that seems to be what they’re saying. He meets Benio, a girl and also a powerful onmyouji and it seems that they’re a destined pair or something. I didn’t mind the first episode but I’m not convinced it’s a regular yet. Giving it a bit to develop.Tanaka is Always Listless
God this was boring. Basically the everyday life of a dude that is constantly bored and listless and wants to just sleep (seriously, someone take this guy to a doctor, he’s either narcoleptic or on the verge of a diabetic coma) and his long-suffering friend who basically carries him around everywhere. Insanely boring. Don’t know how I made it through the episode.WHEEE WATCHING THE NEW ANIMES EVEN THOUGH NEG DI
ED FOR MY SINS ANYWAYI’m actually pretty interested in this season. Looks like there’s a few things I’m going to watch regularly (if I can remember what they are). So, watching stuff in alphabetical order, I’m probably about… halfway?
Discussion copy-pasted from a text file that didn’t get posted on the weekend!
Ace Attorney
Mrf. I thought this would be a good intro to the series, given that I haven’t really played much of the games (got some of the early stuff on iOS), but now I’m thinking I’ll probably be better-served going back to the ipad instead. Seems like you’re right on this one. Maybe a couple more, see if it’s still getting its sea-legs.Anne Happy
Too cutesy, and too schoolgirl, the ‘class full of unfortunates’ is a kiiiiind of interesting hook that I might want to watch more of, but it’s probably just going to be a vehicle for the not-actually-that unfortunate straightman protagonist to marvel at the inner strength and unparalleled bad luck of the creator’s pet. Bleeeeh. Maybe one more ep.Bakuon!!
The prior Neg-and-Saturday comments already covered this very well. It’s not enough to just be an enthusiast anime about a specific hobby/sport, on its own… these things live or die on their characters and I’m not sold on these. I might watch a little for bike education purposes, but fully expect that this will lose me by the 4th episode. At least the airsoft gun club show got me for a good seven or so eps due to some character twists before it devolved into ‘plop the crew into different situations and see how they react’.Boku no Hero Academia
Yaawwwwn. There’s hints at something interesting in the undercurrent of this world where 85’ish% population have powers, like the bloodstain on All Might… but mostly this leaves me utterly uninspired. It’s pretty frustrating if not outright laughable that we’re supposed to be rooting for the unrealistic idiot who wants to be a hero without any powers or talents beyond fucking PLUCK and it’s an outright insult if he actually ends up succeeding due to good ol’ gumption alone. That trope is ridiculous and, frankly, harmful to young minds.Bungou stray Dogs
Ah! Read or Die! Yes, that does sorta describe the ensemble type thing I was thinking of. Still, this show was pretty damn fucking casual with its treatment of suicide as a subject. I’m not really sure I can get behind it as a gag. It should be a lot darker than they’re handling it. So maybe it is actually as dark as the material deserves… but given the way no-one actually really lost anything or got hurt, I have my doubts. The aesthetic’s great, so I’ll give it a few more eps.Endride
Giving this one a bit more of a shot to try to be less boring, but so far it’s not doing anything more exciting than the Escaflowne it seems to be drawing its inspiration from. It’s troperrific, by which I mean predictable.Flying Witch
I also really liked this one. How similar is that scenery to when we visited Takayama? Really authentic-feeling setting, and nice and mellow. A lot of attention to detail. I am probably going to have to endure the incredulity of the world-building (really? A secret society of witches that doesn’t really work very hard to protect its existence, with witches openly flying about without the aid of memory-erasers? And no-one who finds out completely loses their fucking shit and contacts the Government and/or the Internet?), but y’know… I guess you gotta forgive some things to continue enjoying the rest.Haifuri
Ugh. God. Yeah, a competitor for the Kancolle crowd, eh? Potentially interesting setting is wasted on an excuse to have absurdly twee schoolgirls being absurdly earnest while doing unladylike military things. Fuck me, if I watched any more of that I’d go into a diabetic coma. No.Hundred
Just about the only good thing this does is not blatantly put the unknowing everyman warrior prodigy as the only guy in an all-girl school, but given that every single character with a NAME (bar the token bro) is a harem-template archetype results in basically the same effect. No, I don’t think so.Joker Game
Yeah, the navel-gazing was a bit much. Maybe they’re only talking up the ‘monsters’ through the view of the (apparently to be self-impaled?) straight-man for the first ep for setting the scene, but if it continues like this, I don’t care how good the art is, or how novel the setting, I won’t be able to put up with it. My patience for, ‘oh my god, how amazing his this guy/girl/people, they’re on another level to us regular folk!’ anime is wearing thin.Joukamachi no Dandelion
Sigh. Predicting this to be the guilty pleasure of the season. I like that there’s a pretty hefty cast, the dad-King seems like the best guy ever, and the hook is pretty novel to me – I haven’t seen much like this before. So it’s basically if The Brady Bunch had superpowers and were royalty, and were competing for public affection, but in a loving and supportive way… so far. Bah. I’m going to watch more. I know it.Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress
Yeah. Near-feudal Japan meets steampunk with zombies+attack-on-titan-walls is definitely how this thing looks. I’m going to watch more. The pacing, setting, animation quality and characterization (and character design – even throw-away characters looked like visually distinct, unique individuals; now that’s an impressive effort these days when you could just do the same character in different heights/clothes/eye-and-hair-colour-combinations and apparently be successful) is a winner. It’ll be good to see more of the world-building unfold, and see more varied characters. Minor point of annoyance is that the guards at the bridge didn’t have a god damn brain in their heads about what it means for being ‘on time’ when a previous train turned up early, but whatever. Something had to bring things crashing down, it might as well be incompetence.Kiznaiver
I’m… unsure. Definitely not as Edgy as Kill la Kill, and I wasn’t hooked immediately by characters, music, or art. The story device of pain-sharing seems… er. Odd? I’m probably not finding it as unsettling or interesting as I’m supposed to be? I really hope they focus on more characters than the dull-as-fuck apparent protagonist, or that he starts actually developing a personality.Kuma Miko
Think I already responded to this one, but I doubt I’ll watch more. It has the look and feel of a short-form goofy mountain-village tourism anime, but drawn out way the hell too long and dwelling on reactions that wear out their welcome. If I watch any more of it, I doubt it’ll be this season.
OK, so I’m up to about M. More to watch at a later date, the weekend was a blur of fever dreams and not conducive to watching a tonne of stuff.
On Bungou Stray Dogs, that dude’s real-life counterpart apparently attempted suicide multiple times over several decades before it stuck (he and his wife drowned themselves in a river). Being author is suffering or something.
Flying Witch’s setting looks heaps like Takayama. I don’t think it is – it’s a bit too flat – but it’s got to be somewhere up in the sticks like that. Also it wouldn’t be an Iyashikei series if she needed to worry about people being dicks and reporting her.
I was honestly too busy stepping through Hai-Furi frame by frame to identify the ship models they were using to notice the characters 😛
Joker Game:
Clearly what’s going to happen is that at the last minute it’ll turn out the spies planted the evidence they need to take the guy away.Joukamachi no Dandelion was a few seasons ago? It’s a fun show though.
Kabaneri is definitely the pick of the season. High production values, strong setup and really nice animation. I had my eye on it as one of the ones with potential but I was kind of expecting a few others to fire when they haven’t.
Laurence said it’s the other side of the mountain to Takayama. Apparently that’s on the south side, the show takes place on the north side? Said he thought he’d been there on a previous trip.
I watched the first episode of Kabaneri of the iron fortress and I really enjoyed it. I love the setting and the premise.
Yes it looks really promising. I think that the Amazon Prime exclusivity is going to hold it back from being as big as it could be though.
Well, Numbers and I found different streaming sties for it and Gorzy found a way to download it, so, maybe not. Hype is already building on the net
Oh yeah there’s always rippers like HorribleSubs.
I’m watching Ace Attorney and the animation quality is really bugging me. There have been a few moments so far that seem so janky and out of sync with the rest of the animation that it puts me off. Also the use of CGI is almost too excessive for my tastes.
Another pet peeve of mine is that Detective Gumshoe looks pretty different compared to how he looked in the games. He looks distinctly Japanese now whereas he looks fairly Western in the games. I know it shouldn’t bug me but it does.
Sounding like a pretty lackluster season.
Hopefully zombie train one can be obtained cause there’s not much else on my radar except Macross.
Yeah it’s not as good as it looked like it’d be going in. 🙁
I got worried that you were talking about Kabaneri, but then I realised you were talking about the anime season.
I’m not a smart person
So I saw that redlettermedia is doing their review on The Force Awakens. Which kinda kills any desire for me to do mine since I doubt I could measure up.
Unless they give it high praise.
90 minutes to Dark Souls 3…
The wait is unbearable.
So Granblue Fantasy is in English on Android now. You still have to download the JP app using QooApp or similar though. Just in case anyone cares about reasonably okay mobile phone RPGs.
Woo! Dark Souls 3 is downloading! \o/
Got a little excited there…
First boss: Steam. It installed the preload files to my tiny SSD… not enough space to unpack. D’:

You had one job, Steam…
The upgrade to Win10 set some things back to their defaults… I guess Steam’s install location was one of them. Fixed and redownloading. On the plus side, I can now go to work without feeling like I could be playing DS3.
No such luck, here. Saw it was preloaded last night, but I badly needed sleep. So. Restraint is probably a virtue worth developing, right?
Oh god… get to work and have to investigate a database error… Data Store tables everywhere… DS prefixes everywhere! *sigh* This is going to be a long day…

How about YOU? What did YOU listen to last?
Spotify says it was the new M83 album.

The Game of Thrones Season 6 Trailer #2 though. Hype Train, motherfxcker.
HHHHOOOOLLLLYYYYY SHHHHIIIIITTTTT
CHHHHOOOO CHHHHOOOOO
Does anyone else find it kind of sad but also kind of hilarious that the backing track for the new Doom trailer is a song by Refused, who quit music because they were vehemently anti-capitalistic and hated the way music was being commercialized?
(but then they reunited because it turns out money is awesome and a dude’s gotta eat… but still).
DAAAAAAAARRRRKKKKKKKKK SSSSSSSSOOOOOOUUUUULLLLLLSSSSSS!!!

*bounces in place*
Discovering that having Dark Souls and being able to play Dark Souls are two very different things is a painful experience.
This is the most i’ve seen you post in here for decades…
I mean shouldn’t you be at work? 😛
Err I actually meant hey dude, long time!
So yesterday I attempted to replace the home button & the sleep wake button on my iPhone 4. I ended up with a totally useless home button & a half working digitiser. But the sleep wake button works fine.
Lifts are broken. I had to go from levels 1 to 10 by the stairs.
First three floors, I was bounding up the steps – two or even three at a time, if I could manage it.
By the fourth floor I was down to, “Yeah, nah, no sprinting, let’s just take two steps at a time.”
By the seventh floor I was down to, “Yeah, nah, one at a time will do I reckon.”
By the tenth floor I was all, “Yeah, I gotta catch my breath for a minute or people are going to laugh at me for being an old, out-of-shape, fat fuck who got in over his head.”
…And then I went back down ten floors with the cab charge vouchers I need for the meeting in the next 20min.
Sigh. I need to get more exercise.
Still better than me, one floor of stairs and already my left knee gives out on me, the outer side of my knee hurting whenever I put weight on it so I have to go slow while using the handrail to keep as much off the leg as possible.
The Dark Souls of floor changing?
Aha, you read that Point and Clickbait article as well?
No?
Aheh. http://www.pointandclickbait.com/2016/02/five-tips-for-dark-souls-which-i-have-played/
Apparently one of the Giant Bomb guys (Vinny I think) is responsible for the ‘Dark Souls of x’ meme. 😐
(Doublepost)
I am about 800% zombie today. Way too not enough sleeps, and trainsleep did not help.
So… I found something pretty amazing last week. Many many years ago when I was a little kid with a PS one I recalled playing a turn based JRPG with robots that I remember thinking was the absolute best game ever. Of course I remember the bloody game but had no idea what the name was (I think I was like 8 or 9). After incessant googling and digging through various Mecha RPG’s I managed to find it! It was called Vanguard Bandits and it looks as glorious as I remember 😀 I feel like I’ve been reunited with an old friend….
The best mecha RPG name is Steambot Chronicles. In Japan it was titled Bumpy Trot. 😛
and it was called Front Mission 3.
I loved Front Mission on the SNES, even if I had to use a separate guide to actually understand what the story was.
The recent’ish Front Mission Evolved was… a stinging lesson in doing your research before you buy.
I use to play a super frustrating game on the sega mega-cd format that I couldn’t remember for the longest time and eventually found out it was Road Avenger I would totally love the chance to play the game though adult eyes.
Ahh I know how it is to do that kind of search. My sister and I spent at least a decade off & on trying to remember the name of this detective game from the C64 era, the only things we could remember is the look of it which wasn’t much good for a text based search and that there was a mad old army major with PTSD who kept wandering around randomly shouting “Grenade!”.
Took years and years to eventually track it down. It was called The Detective Game…
I think they’ve added something to the Kotaku site where at least in Chrome if you middle click a link to open in a new tab (I do this always) the new tab immediately steals focus. It’s immensely frustrating (I opened it in a new tab so I could go to it AFTER I read the rest of this page) but it’s also causing Adblock to think it’s a popup half the time and auto-close the tab and it’s making browsing an utter chore. Anyone else hitting this or is it just me?
Yeah, I’m getting it too. 🙁
So it’s just Kotaku then and not Chrome specific? That explains a lot
Well I’m not getting it anywhere else so I assume so.
@markserrels should we submit a bug report or something?
Welp, that’d be what’s making me have to double-middle-click links to get them to open. First one hits the popup blocker, which would be perfectly correct if the new tab is trying to steal focus.
Edit: It seems to be Adobe Tag Manager causing the problem – disabling that library in Ghostery let me open tabs normally without the popup blocker triggering.
I don’t have an Adobe Tag Manager extension? Or is that some kind of extra JS on the site?
It’s a javascript web-analytics library being used on the site, pulled in from assets.adobedtm.com. Used to be called Satellite TMS, then Adobe bought it in 2013 and turned it into Adobe Dynamic Tag Manager. Analytics libraries normally monitor clicks, etc; they shouldn’t change the way a page behaves… but it’s the only included library (that I can see) where disabling it solves the issue.
I dunno what they’ve done recently, but I’m having to double-click everything. I thought it might be due to something they’ve whacked on our custom tweaked chrome (IT like to put their grubby mits on everything and break it in the name of security), because it doesn’t do that to me at home. Either on my ad-blocked Chrome or my non-adblocked Firefox.
Yeah I’ve been having that problem for about 1-2 months now, especially with upvoting and sometimes commenting.
Not doing it for me. Opens tab and stays focused on the page I’m looking at.
So… the Geelong City council has been sacked…
Huh.
I didn’t even know that was something that could be done. Pretty interesting reasons for doing it, though.
Didn’t they do that to Auburn council a little while back? Or did they just suspend them maybe.
They suspended Auburn Council pending investigations. Selim Mehajer drew too much attention to himself by illegally closing a street for his stupid wedding procession and what a surprise, it turns out he’s balls deep in dodgy real estate dealings and can’t account for most of his money and now his wife is leaving him.
Oh, I hadn’t heard that last bit. That’s some good schadenfreude 😛
They did that to the Tweed Shire Council (where I live) 2 or 3 years back. Didn’t make much difference tbh.
MELBOURNE PEOPLE!!! (Taytag help, anyone?)
My FLGS is organising a tabletop games convention/weekend called PANDA!
Who doesn’t love Pandas!?
Anyway, they’re trying to drum up as much support as possible, so it would be great if you could check it out if interested. Tickets are cheap and it looks like it could be a lot of fun. Also hosted in a very easy to get to and nice looking location in Yarraville.
Includes lots and lots of freeplay card and boardgames and events.

I’d be lost without you
Sorry
#bestreply
Were any pandas harmed in the hosting of this event :O
No.
Not yet, at least.
Panda harming may be dependent on your likelihood to attend.
Panda burgers on the menu?
I’ll have to confirm I’m actually free that weekend, otherwise count me in.
neato
You know what? If Techie’s going, maybe I should too. I reverse most weekends for working on his cosplay, so if he gets the day off, so do I. =P
Yep I’m not on recall, so count me in!
It’s near me, if that helps
Yeah I’m going to walk from the station though, parking doesn’t look very promising.
It’s actually pretty good – heaps of side streets
They are also prompt with fining people
Yeah frack that, train it is
Sorry, can’t make it. Got work and footy this weekend.
This weekend?
It’s in July, dude. haha
Ah.
We’ll be out of town that weekend, sorry.
Eeeeenteresting. Will check calendar. Hopefully not working that weekend.
Dark souls 3 day! I’m gonna smash out some work then sneak home early and play it.
2nd to last job of the day: everything breaks, everything’s fucked. I’m not outa here for a while.
🙁
Say you’re feeling ill from not being able to go home and play DS3, might need to take the rest of the week off in order to recover.
I am dreading every single time the phone rings.
http://imgur.com/6ntSLlv So this is a short design I’m working on. I’m not happy with how it is atm. I’m changing the cherry blossoms into green leaves too.
I see you have a new name…. =P
Looks pretty cool, maybe bigger wing/cloud things on the front legs? I remember them being bigger anyways. Also cherry blossoms > green leaves! Maybe just needs to rework their look? They look pretty neat atm though.
Edit: Separate note, how’s your running going scree?
I am on my rest day today. I did 3 consecutive running days but for 15 minutes instead of 30
Wings are big, you just can’t see them
IMO changing it to leaves would be a step backward. Try putting it on a white or extremely soft pink background and giving the flowers a bit more color variation.
You could also consider adding some extra fire to Amaterasu’s mirror, or putting a faded-out sunburst between her and the flowers?
P.S. Thanks for reminding me I need to find somewhere to frame my Okami print.
There is like 3 layers of fire there. =P
I decided to keep cherry blossoms but try using petals instead of flowers and 3 different colour variations.

Someone’s going to end up breaking TAY again, aren’t they?
Haven’t had an old school TAY break for a very long time
Where’s @lambomann007 when you need a good TAY break.
Don’t tempt me…
You know you want to.
😀
Wasn’t @chuloopa a common cause of Taybreaks?
So was @lambomann007, good times.
I am seriously considering buying a bigger TV to better appreciate DS3’s prettyness.
But that would require extensive research time that could be spent playing DS3.
A conundrum indeed.
What’s your price range?
Up to 2k?
Don’t really want smart features or 3D, though it’s hard to find one without nowdays.
Or even speakers really. Or TV reception. Basically a quality 50 inch monitor would be good.
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-home-entertainment/hd-televisions/sony/sony-kd55x8500c-55-4k-ultra-hd-android-led-lcd-tv/719735/ $1500, 4k 55″. I have one of these over here in the US and it’s very nice. Have to turn MotionFlow off though.
What’s MotionFlow do?
It creates three new intermediate images based on the incoming signal and inserts them between the original pictures and thus images are displayed at a rate of 200 fps.
So, it’s just a useless optional feature.
It adds extra frames which basically doubles the framerate of everything. It makes it super smooth. Did you see any of the Hobbit films on 60fps? It’s like that. Feels too real and makes films feel like you’re watching a bad mid-afternoon soap opera. Very distracting. LG and Samsung have similar processing filters I think.
Man, I loved the additional FPS. I want it on everything. c.c
Of the Hobbit? Or of stuff when viewed with MotionFlow?
The Hobbit looked cool that way because it was designed with it in mind. Ended up feeling a bit like a stage show rather than a film though.
Just the Hobbit, I don’t recall having seen anything else in that vein. A couple youtube clips filmed/shown at 60fps? They looked unbelievable. And someone was showing off an animated .gif the other day I saw, that was visually entrancing for its framerate. So smooth. Such flow.
The appeal of high framerates almost makes me want to get a 144hz monitor.
So i’ve been thinking in recent I need some kind of NAS/back up server/media server. Came across a bloke locally selling refurbed gov’t computers (Lenovo’s in this case) with Core i5 2500, 4GB DDR3 RAM & 500GB hard drive with Windows 10 Pro for $180 seems like a pretty good price. According to his ad they were put together in 2012. That’s about as old as my current PC which is a Core i5 2500 with 8GB DDR3 RAM.
If I did buy one, I have a spare 500GB HDD & a 128GB SSD which I could pop in said computer to increase performance. But saying that I also wonder what’s wrong with it for $180.. Cause alone the CPU & motherboard could get that if not more on eBay from my recent research.
So, whilst waiting for Dark Souls 3 to download, I put some time into Brutal DOOM…
Good god is it fantastic!
It adds OpenGL support, mouselook, ironsights, and a fair bit of gore to what was already a great game.
Last song played game time!!
For a Time I Was You by Etherwood
Fantastic drum and bass artist.
How about you?
What was the last song YOU listened to?
Venator by Be’lakor.
Epic intro. Goes on a bit too long though due to an excessive instamental breakdown.
I don’t believe in preorders as a rule, but I will be preordering their new album on the 25th.
Legendary Assault – EliteFerrex, I’ve recently gained a massive interest in chiptunes thanks to this composer
R.E.M. – Nightswimming.
Fan-fricking-tastic song from a fan-fricking-tastic album (Automatic for the People), I think it often gets overshadowed by the other brilliant tracks but it’s probably my personal favourite.
Since I Left You- The Avalanches
Rob Zombie – Dragula.
Awesome Song. Always pumps me up when I need it.
Every time I hear that song I want to play Twisted Metal.
The Animal – Disturbed. They have a Rocksmith pack this week, and I realised I’d missed a couple of album releases, so going back and listening to them. Really wish I could play more of their songs – so many fun-sounding riffs, but all the fun ones are in drop C or lower…
Internet says it was Juular by The Devin Townsend Project; I see no reason to disagree.

For every e-mail I receive in my kickstarter inbox that isn’t about my Rift being delivered, you shall receive… a very stern glare.
Bored…. Been at work for 30min and have a grand total of 3 e-mails to sort through. What the hell work?! Just send me home :@
Dark Souls 3 stuff
So basically played last night with bloodborne eyes thinking I was far to slick to get hit anymore, only to be shot down when i realized the speed and momentum is all different, so I have to relearn some crap, also if you’re like me and use the hint-book as a early armory until fextralife gets on-top of it:: don’t, the details were pretty sparse on that account sorta wish I didn’t get it.
Spoiler-ish stuff 2 bosses and beyond~
First boss was a bit of a joke, bad hit detection/connection? and overall simple one try, since their were like 3 entrances to the 2nd boss I spent most my time exploring around them all before attempting the next boss, felt like it should of been difficult but in the end was way to telegraphed of a fight, than called it a night. so I think I maybe only played for 2 hours?DOG SOLES
Beat Vordt just before going to bed last night. I too, am doing bloodborne things- if I get hit, my first instinct is the crack right back to regain my healthIndeed that yellow bar representing how much health we lost is simply there to troll us now.
Sounds like about where I’m up to. Tho I took a bit longer due to being terrible at these games.
Now I’m stumped about what weapon I want to use. Str for the halberd or dex for the uchiganata?
Unsure if your asking me or just expressing it as a question to yourself but anyways I guess in my opinion strength weapons have a satisfying feel to them? if you can understand what I mean, while dexterity weapons are usually more practical.
Either way exploring this is half the fun.
Screw practicality – raise shield, and if anything hits it, whack it with a greatsword until one of you dies. If you die, clearly you need to upgrade your sword. 😛
Sorta how I felt when I found the kiteshield before the 2nd boss *glasses on* this changes everything.
I chose the knight, so I started with a pretty decent 100% shield. Was very surprised that I could fast-roll in full knight armour right off the bat, too…
Bloodborne was my Piccolo – it taught me to dodge! :3 But seriously, either the i-frame window is larger than past DS games, or BB actually taught me to rely on a shield less. That said, it also taught me to go on the offensive to regain my health, which is… less than advisable in DS. :3
First boss was pretty interesting design-wise, and his second-form was a nice primer for some enemies a little further in (and screw those guys in particular), but he wasn’t too hard – beat him without much difficulty. First death was to the naked dude by the locked door to the left of Firelink. 😛 Vordt was a PITA – the escalation in that fight is hilarious. Got him down to a hit or two from death maybe five times? Currently five hours in (according to Steam, tho a took a break to have dinner), spent a bit of time farming souls for the tower key, and called it a night while working through the area after the third boss. I’m considering starting to upgrade a machete or bastard sword until I get my hands on an actual greatsword.I don’t think I Iudex’d right, I hit him until he transformed and then backed off and threw fireballs. Got him first try, which is the only time I’ll ever say that in this gameI saw a bloodstain of a pyromancer trying to gain some distance… needless to say, it didn’t work out as well as your fight. I saw Iudex start to change, and just kept wailing on him; got him about two hits away from death before I ran out of stamina and got knocked on my arse; ran right back at him and kept hitting him.I roll distance also feels a little long, one thing about bloodborne is that you could roll than snap an attack, while in DS3 doing so will usually have your weapon slicing the air.
Edit: Also just noticed the dbz abridged reference, very nice touch.
I gave it a couple hours last night.
Got up to roaming around that village with the huge caster dudes in masks. Got a few bonfires in before calling it for the night out of exhaustion.
Didn’t have a problem with either of the first bosses, first-time downs. Back to using a shield and loving it, but I’m really sad I haven’t seen a version of my true love: The Man-Serpent Greatsword. I want a giant slab of steel to thwack people with, one-handed, while I hide behind a shield. Currently I’m just using the knight’s starter longsword with a +1 upgrade.
I did not see or learn the ‘patterns’ behind either boss. I just stayed at an appropriate distance until what looked like an opening and patiently only did 1 – maybe 2 – stabs/slashes before putting the shield up and retreating. The bosses seem to let you get a lot of distance. I’m sure I’ll be punished for that complacency later, but I think I’m in a state where my brain is too foggy for true finesse in this game.
That one zombie-dude who transforms Resident Evil 4-style into a giant snake blob owns me every time. I cheese him with arrows at the moment.
Those snake abominations If you hit them with fire they usually flail around for awhile allowing you to get 2-3 hits in, usually making the fight mostly over
In the undead village there’s those big dudes that carry the pots and wield a big machete? They drop those, but it’s classed as a greataxe.
I should just use the wiki and race to whatever area drops what I’m looking for. 😉
Mmm, I need to grind up more luck stat.
I usually like halberd type weapons but I’ve found so far that the range you want to be at to use them (same with 2h swords) is the same range bosses and larger foes like to hit you at and can be slightly too slow.
So I’m switching to faster weapons and getting in close.
Master Of Orion:
Been playing again recently with a friend, and it’s still a lot of fun.
My friend is concerned because I jumped quite a way ahead (Double his colonies) and Have just destroyed the Hammill Birds last night. Cant wait to see if I get this Science Victory out when we finish the game 🙂
I think what’s keeping me on this game so much is I find it easy to be good at it and the people I play with are having problems, where they normally smash me in this type of game normally.
Glad you’re enjoying it! I’m taking a break from it while I power through The Witcher, but I’m planning on diving back in once that’s (eventually) done – hopefully they’ve added in the spies by then!
“Hey Gooky, can you write me up an algorithm that randomly spits out numbers that roughly fit this distribution? *sketch of a graph*”
“Uh… sure.”
An hour or so later, after looking up a bunch of mathsy stuff about probability distributions that I don’t understand:
“Ok, nope. But here, take this clunky brute-forced close-enough method instead.”
“Love your work.”
“brute-forced close-enough method instead.” should be a job title.
I think it is for the American police force? *badump-tish*
Yeah I’m bored at work….
I made 2 animated gifs while at work. Just because.
So for all you PC dark souls 3 folks, how’s the keyboard & mouse controls? I’m thinking of grabbing it but I want something I can play without a controller for those days where my thumbs are too fucked up to use thumbsticks.
Can’t help, sorry. I’ve been on PS4 (yeah, despite the graphics differences and load times. Neither of which are actually as bad as I’d heard they might be). KB&M were garbage in DS1, though, so I’m very leery. I’d be checking to make sure my PS4 controller works on Windows first.
(Meant to be a reply to @aliasalpha)
Yeah I wasn’t a fan of the KB/M on the PC version of the first game but since its the third I was hoping they’d have worked out something decent by now
My opinion has been shaped by years and years of console playing, but I can’t imagine trying to play a 3rd person action game with KB+M. a third person shooter, sure, but my head just can’t get around the camera control
One month til DOOM! \o/
I’m gonna sing the doom song now…
*6 months later*
This is how you prove you’re good people.
Doom doom doom… doomie doomie doom.
Doomdoomdoomtheend.
Wait, really?
I would’ve thought it was only a week or two away with how many posters and billboards have popped up around the place.
I was cautiously optimistic for this game but after recent previews I’m cautiously underwhelmed. Let us know your impressions if you’re picking it up at launch!
DS3 peeps, a couple tips I found:
1 – you open hidden doors by rolling into them.
Spoilery stuff:
You can stagger your way through the dragon’s flame to the tower it’s on – sweet axe in there, also a claymore on the area that is getting flamed.Back in the Ash Graveyard, if you go through the creek and kill spiky crystal lizard guy he drops higher level titanite.
Saving up for the Tower Key asap is totally worth it imo.
Naked guy next to Firelink drops the Uchiganata.
Firelink:
https://twitter.com/redartifice/status/719843788353458176
Tower key is an amazing investment. Naked dude was responsible for my first five deaths, the first of which I panic-rolled off the cliff. Came back later and valiantly returned the favour. :3Gaaaah. And to think I was scowling at all those messages about illusory walls that I couldn’t figure out. I even did running jumps into them. But straight rolling? I really can’t remember if I tried that.
To be fair, 95% of them are trolling. Hitting them works, tho.
Ah, well I always tried hitting them, so yeah, in that case 100% of messages I’ve seen about illusory walls are trolling. Haven’t found one yet.
One up the top of firelink, through the tower.Crap… I knew there was something I meant to do last night! Seeing as I got that kinda spoiled by the “good early farming spot” video yesterday… -_-
Haha, I don’t really farm, underleveled 4lyfe.
Worth going up there – really good rings and things.
Oh, I found one of the rings and the “and things” the first night 😛
Just didn’t investigate the wall when I was up there.I was curious to see if there was a more efficient place to get the 20k for the key than the place I used – mine was better, as it turns out, tho a bit further into the game. But really didn’t expect a “good farming spot” video to spoil a hidden item in a place with no enemies.
I did go back and fight the Crystal creature – that thing has a really cool moveset. Also grabbed the stuff by the white tree at the bottom of the Settlement. Didn’t get much time last night, tho.(Doublepost, yay.)
Alright guys, I saw that EB is selling pre owned wiis fr $44. I wanted to know if wii has a digital marketplace as i prefer buying games that way?
Also I need this for very casual gaming with my wife so I thought its a steal fir that price. Let me know if it is not!
It does, but only for old games on the Virtual Console and smaller Wiiware titles. You won’t be able to get any retail Wii games on there.
You can’t go all-digital on Wii. It’s just really not an option. Nintendo basically didn’t learn the internet existed until the Wii U, and even then it seems like they discovered a parallel world’s internet that never advanced from 1997.
Also if you’re that concerned about saving money that you’ll pick up a Wii because it’s only $44, then I don’t know why you’d want to go digital-only. It’s Nintendo we’re talking about, going digital would cost you at least 5x as much 😛
I have never used wii or wii u so I didnt know that. I assumed the older wii titles will be cheaper.
Nah, Nintendo rarely drops the prices of their games. It wasn’t til the 3DS came along that they even offered sales/discount on the eShop at all, don’t think they ever have on the Wii Shop.
But yeah, their digital games just about always go for full RRP, so you’re better off scooping up preowned or clearance titles from the shops in physical form. Or eBay.
I just spent a good percentage of my day finishing Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 3. Good game, but man was it painful towards the end. I swear it went like 2-3 hours without a save point :\
Still prefer the Xbox 360 Naruto games though. Fighting was way more fun in that. Only thing I didn’t like about them was the forest travel.
Still, decent enough game. Not sure why it seemed to follow the Shippuuden story pretty faithfully until near the end, and then just added in other fights and changed how the story went a bit.
Hyrule Warriors is amazing.
Max woke me up at 3am, so I started playing it and I cleared the first mission.
I’ll probably divide my gaming between this and Dark Souls 3 over the weekend.
I updated the shirt design

Last song listened to game time folks 😀
Lucky You by Deftones – playing right now actually
Not sure what album will be next, so many to choose from
What was YOUR last played song?
Phantom Bride by Deftones
After my own heart 🙂
I am now listening to The Birthday Massacre
But how good is GORE?!?!?
Soooo Gooood. I’m in love with Hearts/Wires and Phantom Bride
I’m in love with Xenon and Gore
No idea – whatever was on the radio last time I listened to it.
I’m currently listening to Mr 5 play minecraft. Atmospheric music punctuated by animal noises and a running commentay.
+ 1 for the all the Deftones love (there is not enough going around these days), funnily enough the second to last song as I arrived at work was Shove it.
The last song I heard was Roquefort by Karnivool (sooooo goood and has me in a pretty dam fine mood, but we will see how long that lasts for)
Love Deftones, have seem them live when they were last here (I think it was when they were last here, Koi No Yokan came out)
Currently The Birthday Massacre though for me.
I’m in my own little room and am doing data entry so I’ve braved putting my earphones in (there’s really only one person outside of the executives who cares if I do it haha)
Tool something something, I can’t remember title names anymore
Remember them and you can play along in this totally fantastic game 😀
Just let me play half-heartedly, I don’t wanna have to reach into my bag to check my iPod.
Alright I’ll allow it 😀
Was it the one with the guitar, or the one with the drums?
Pretty sure this one had bass?
Sure you weren’t listening to Metallica? It sounds like it may have been Metallica.
Now that you mention it, I think it was Sepultura.
Open Your Eyes – Disturbed. Slowly working through them… Thought I’d found something relatively easy in a decent tuning, but nope – how can the lead guitar for a song that sounds like this be written in drop-B?!
Am listening to Bollywood!
Ab tohe jaane na dungi (Now I Won’t Let You Go) from the movie Bajirao Mastani… if anyone’s interested
I am, it’s why I ask
Just thought I’d thank @scree for bringing a bit of harmony into my reading this week.

Kept meaning to ask, @scree: link to your store?
I don’t have one yet. What CookingMama told me about cowcow put me off. I’m hoping to use shirt designs on RedBubble in an attempt to save up to get bookmarks printed up as they’re currently being quoted as $1500 to get printed
TBH i thought I was in trouble for posting my okami design when I got the notification =P
Oh god. I need to see this. (And does it come in a shirt?)
It’s the second post of this page. Once I fix up the background, it will be available for sale
Dark Souls 3 stuff- Day Two Edition
Spoiler stuff – four bosses in.
Pretty sure I did a good cleanup of the undead settlement, found the dark sign sorcerer and the Pyromancer, did some demon slaying with siegmeyer killed the 3rd boss on my 2nd try first attempt was rather hammy however just didn’t realize the boss wasn’t as aggressive as I thought, moved onto the road of sacrifices, killed the astral mage on my 3rd attempt.. first attempt was with a sunbro who ended up dying, 2nd I made the mistake of trying to take my time with the 2nd phase, 3rd attempt went rather perfect, rolled under the orbs, went aggressive on the clones, kill, spent the rest of my time scouring around the swamps for loot.I guess tonight I’ll spent one last look around the swamp than either move onward to the cathedral or farron keep, I’m leaning more towards going to the cathedral since it was the direct path after the astral mage. also now have enough strength for voldt’s hammer which is fun.
I think I must have completely missed a boss.
What area is boss 4 in?
You know where the bonfire tha’ts near the water of the swamp area, with those crucifix hollows? basicly enter that castle right near it, basicly cut thru the ruined building and youll break thru the other side into something that looks like a garden square, boss fight happens in that room./Facepalm
I remember that. I saw it and thought: “that’s a boss fight, I’ll come back once I’m done exploring.”
3 hours later: “man, I’m surprised I haven’t found another boss yet.” 😀
So where did you go? Farron keep?
Yeah, 2nd bonfire and 2 unlock flames into the real swamp before the keep itself.Lost a bunch of time fighting an invader who, like a jerk, invaded while I was waist deep in sludge, wearing rags, slowly dying to poison and fighting off 4 curse frogs and proceeded to spam magic at me.
Cheep ass mofo didn’t get me though.
Farron keep is a large place? yikes… guess I will do cathedral first.
Damn… now I need to catch up. Still three bosses in. Just reached the area with the
annoying crow peoplebefore getting called to try Division’s incursion. After an hour of that, I wanted to go back to something easier, fairer, with less lag and far better combat. Like Dark Souls. 😛
That’s not really an area, you basically drop down a ledge and cross a bridge and never face them again lol might spent 10 mins or so looking around for loot that’s about all.
I didn’t get much time there;
Killed a poison throwing thing and was pondering an “ambush ahead” message by a one-way drop when I got called away.Still, they don’t seem too bad, unless you get swarmed.
I spent a frustrating bit of time in the Great Swamp…
…mostly running away from monsters whenever invaded by whatever the new Forest covenant call themselves (Watchdogs, I think?) and repeatedly running back to the bonfire to fetch sunbros and whitebros to die on my behalf at the hands of bluedouches and redwanks. Frustrating as hell. Anytime you get invaded you can’t rest at the bonfire, so I spent most of my time in the zone just waiting for a SINGLE FUCKING SECOND OF NOT BEING INVADED to refresh my estus. It’s beyond tiresome to just hang around the bonfire, waiting, avoiding straying too far into monster territory, hoping the gutless blue fuckers will get bored of sitting around in the swamp holding their dicks and make the incredibly brave decision to actually come find you to fight you instead of hiding next to the monster-crabs in the cowardly hope that you’ll get caught fighting PVP and PVE. Fucking wankers. If you’re going to PVP, then bloody well PVP. Don’t waste my fucking time blocking my bonfire, it’s basically griefing. There’s gotta be a better system for catching a break than disconnecting the internet; what kind of matchmaking algorithm are they using that I can never actually use the bonfire in that zone? Launch week woes, I guess. The dickery might get more reasonable later on.
Still, I need to go through a purely offline run just clearing out all the ground-treasure I missed in the mad panic of trying not to get gangbanged by multiple assholes at once. At least I learned to improve my parry game. It’s a shame that I hate that area now, though, because without the PVP, I think I’d quite like that zone. Interesting and manageable enemies with good exp, a little environment variety, branching paths to different areas. Certainly better than the path to the cathedral/graveyard. Man. To hell with those archers/dogs. I followed a path to grab my executioner’s greatsword, then noped out of there to go back home and upgrade the hell out of the thing. I have found my new greatsword. Huzzah.
That in the swamp with the crabs? Huh, I didn’t get invaded at all there and I was embered the whole time. What level are you?30-something? I think I was around 34?
Seriously though, my youngest brother was half-watching me play in the next room and he was laughing at my expense. “Seriously, did you just get invaded again? You only just finished killing that one guy.”
“YES. AND I STILL HAVE ONE LEFT TO KILL WHO IS HIDING AND NOW HE WILL TEAM UP WITH THE OTHER GUY AND I WILL HAVE TO KILL TWO AND I HATE THIS.”
Ahh, I’m 25? So maybe I sneaked in under the average level for all that.
*takes note to delay levelling until after “great swamp”… wherever that is* 😛
Second half of Road of Sacrifice, I think. After the bird people. Who were kinda neat. I’m not sure if there’s much more to that ‘zone’ , though. Seemed kinda short.
Ah, so right round the corner from where I am. Cool. I guess the alternative would be to just “not be embered” when I go through there. 😛
I was embered pretty much everywhere else and barely got invaded. But that spot I was describing appears to be the new version of that forest from DS1 that was basically the ‘unofficial PVP area’. Or official, perhaps… seems you get invaded by that blue-spirit covenant ‘watchdogs’ just for being there. And there’s a tonne of purple summoning signs, too, for the ‘mad’ spirits who can kill anything – PVE or PVP – so they can either help or hinder, depending on what they feel like.
I only got invaded once(not in your area.) in the crucifix zone, we had a estusless duel, decided to comply to it since I didn’t feel like rolling around for 10 minutes over a single pvp encounter, another person invaded me while the duel was happening but I never saw them since I lost before he showed up, to be honest I sorta wanted to die, I was near a bonfire and didn’t really care to keep the cinder since i was exploring for loot at the time, so decided I wouldn’t fight tooth and nail.
new hatebreed is insane
Started as a mercenary. Swords are super cool. Backflip is awesome.
Blast through first boss, past Firelink Shrine, on to castle area.
Going well until hit guys with shields around the dragon flame. Swords are crap. Backflip is stupid.
Bought a straight sword. Can kick away shields now. Game instantly became 10 times easier. Blast through shielded enemies on way to next bonfire.
As much as I bemoan the genericness of straight swords, I’m finding the fighting style really suitable for most situations in this one.
Tho spears can stab right through shields, which is fun. 🙂
I’m happy I finally found a good greatsword (Executioner’s. Has FP regen!) to one-hand with my shield, but damn if that starting longsword didn’t have a useful moveset.
Black Knight’s GS didn’t make the cut?
Haven’t found it. From looking at the wiki though, it didn’t have as good str-scaling. I’ll have to take another peek at it though. May need to seriously start considering dex-scaled weapons as well. Because at least dex gives a secondary bonus to fall damage. Str, I don’t think gives anything?
Must be luck based than? got mine from the black knight in front of the faron coal, I assume you didn’t miss it?
Edit: I do believe str weapons have a tiny bonus? if you do a near miss and it hits the ground it usually stuns the opponent.
Nah, didn’t drop for me either.
He respawns though.
Fire resistance I think.
Dex weapons don’t have the straight damage you seem to like in str weapons though.
But by the looks of it, element weapons will again outdamage stat scaling ones till ng+ like in previous entries. So mix and match.
Nice!
I forged the spear with treeboss soul that has hp on kill. Real handy, shame my fire samurai sword out damages it significantly and will continue to do so for a while.
\o/ finally bought my ticket to Iron Maiden, paid half the face value of the ticket too thanks to a deal between Ticketek & Soundwave (seemed exclusive for previous Soundwave ticket holders). Also booked a place to stay like 5 minutes from the venue, all up I paid about what I was going to pay for a ticket alone, so i’m pretty happy with this!
Next up purchase tickets to The Living End for their June tour, if they don’t sell out before I can afford them, then probably Henry Rollins if they don’t sell out as well 😛
Also it seems Slipknot will be doing a headline tour of Australia this year, which i’m gonna guess would be around the time of their Knotfest festival in Japan, which is in November I think. So yay.
I’ve been powering through Prelude to Foundation, @shane
I’m quite enjoying the cultural tour of Trantor. I started reading & didn’t think I was enjoying it, before realising I’d read half.
I’ve only got a few sections to go!
Seems Asimov got a lot more inventive with his descriptions of humans.
The Foundation series as a whole is always worth a read, but I personally thought it lost some of its magic when they merged its storyline with the Robot series. Still worth reading, but I prefered them as separate events. Thats just me though.
I’m both ways. I think it stood stronger by itself but I enjoy the little nods.
I’ve had to make use of Wikipedia occasionally though, because I haven’t actually read much of his robot books.
It’s also got that magic push of making me want to read his other stuff, not that his skill wasn’t already doing it.
Yeah, fair enough. I’m the same, dont get me wrong, it just felt like a bit of a cheap stunt when I read them at the time. Having said that, the tie in with the Robot series was a good touch (with the 50 planets sorta being tucked away), it was more the zero law, and whole Gaia thing that put me off. I felt they didnt have a place in the Foundation storyline.
Asimov is an author I’ll always read though, even with the gripes theres nothing bad about the stories at all. Its just my vision didnt match his 🙂
Oh yeah, I totally disagree with the entire Galaxia idea. Screw that, individualism forever!
I think of it as kinda selling humanity short, he’s saying we’ll never stop fighting without becoming one.
I like to think that eventually we’ll naturally evolve past all that shit without Galaxia.
So – looks like I’ll definitely be doing my first cosplay at PAX this year.
I’ve now realised how expensive putting together a cosplay can be.. i’m looking at around $200 if i’m not far off… how am i going to explain this to the wife… le-sigh.
On the plus side, i’llbe commissioning my first 3d printed stuff, so yay!
What are you building?
Tanith First and Only
So need military beret, jackboots, cargos, knee and shoulder pads, webbing, bandoilers, camo cloak and probably just use a converted nerf longstrike as a lasgun, as i don’t have the time or skill to build one from scratch
Have you got a reference pic that you’re working from?
Also, this guy just released a book on foam weapon making: http://punishedprops.com/
Yeah a couple actually
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_UHag1X6JMwE/TOxDfmQoXsI/AAAAAAAAABU/v8qRFK1PkGA/s1600/Oan_Mkoll_sheet_01.jpg
https://36.media.tumblr.com/f48eb94e5ed38abf4e5b761c181ff9da/tumblr_np86hoPr3I1sv1szuo1_500.jpg
Righto. this second one looks a bit more armoured, so that’s where I’d look at foam stuff. You can buy an 8-pack of foam mats from Costco for like $26, and that’s what you’d build the breastplate, pauldron, and gauntlet out of. I’d then attach it all to a webbing harness, which is dead simple to make and attach the rest to. to shape that, use a heat gun, a dremel, and a sharp stanley knife, and glue it with Kwik Grip. Once you work out the templates, you could build most of that quite quickly
What are you planning on rolling as?
See above.
What have you got scree making for you?
Pulsefire Ezreal from League of Legends, tier 1, so more 2 thirds clothing, 1 third armour compared to tier 4 which is all armour.
It may have been easier to do all armour.
Are you free Saturday? We need to heat form the glove parts
Fine then we have no issues with trying to do the final tier next time 😛
Yes I am free this Saturday to do that with you.
We also need to adjust some of the finger end bits too.
some bits not fitting right?
Nah, I just want to fix the bits that have the top bit longer then all the others
ah yes those, okay sure
WELCOME TO MY LIFE!
If you ever need any help, tweet or facebook me, or even come around to my house if you need to. I have left over Worbla
bahahaha.
What in the world is worbla, anyway? I see cosplayers mention it all the time. Is it some sort of magical modeling compound?
It’s a thermoplastic. It’s used to make armour. There are 3 main ways to make armour, pepakura method, foam and theroplastic or foam and sealer.
For example, @redartifice used the foam and sealer method for his pipboy. I used foam and thermoplastic for Nob’s knight solaire cosplay. Techie’s one is being made with the pepakura method
Yeah, my pip boy is foam from Clark rubber, sealed with slightly diluted PVA (many coats) and then spraypainted and finished.
My N7 armour project atm is EVA rubber floor mats, which I’ll similarly seal and paint.
Oh nice – i might need to see that and how you did it – my borther in law wants to go as a dweller, so i’ll need to make him a pipboy.
It’s a layer build- lots of 2D layers built into the full thing.
I didn’t have the tools at the time, if I did it again now it’d come out much cleaner. I’m happy with it, but I can see the shortcuts I took.
Look up a tutorial for a 3D print build
I have a 3D printer and plenty of boredom.
I figured i’d be able to count on you for getting a couple of bits printed 🙂
What are you after, at any rate?
Pretty much just some tanith insignia to turn into badges at this point.
And maybe a couple of Aquila.
Whooo Blood and Wine DLC in June, I can finally restart and complete the Witcher 3 =O Or at the very least get close to the end and stop until the next CD Projekt game comes out….
Sounds great 😛 Hearts of Stone story was surprisingly entertaining as far as DLC goes, Blood and Wine should be great, hopefully they use less bosses that heal this time around, it’s a real pain to kill them if you’re a low dps griffin school build. I could lower the difficulty since I do already have the Death March trophy… but nah.
I only had a problem with the first boss in Heart of Stone (… okay, also the running around in the final fight, because I forgot one of Geralt’s core abilities. >.>), the DLC as a whole was really stellar. I’m pretty hyped for Blood and Wine.
The frog? he was burnable, cake.
I just set everything on fire. Somehow have super burny skills. Don’t even need to melee most enemies, just set them on fire and rinse&repeat.
My fire did nothing to him. Absolutely nothing, and I was a full mage build.
He doesnt flail around but he definately took some hard ticks.
Huh. So, after half an hour of wandering around DS3 picking up stuff I’d run past, and generally exploring, a friend pulled me in to try The DIvision’s incursion, Falcon Lost. Yea… the four of us were around 180 gear score – 20 above the recommended g.s, 40 above the minimum requirement.
Started off interesting, pushing into enemy territory, fighting some interesting new enemies… then we hit the main arena… “survive for 15 waves and kill the APC.” We made it to wave 4 (maybe 5?) a couple of times, by which point we were all running out of ammo. Meanwhile, the APC occasionally shoots cluster bombs that are a 1-hit kill… that require two immediate rolls to escape, and that leaves invisible fire on the ground for a couple of seconds that will also kill you basically immediately. Reminded me of ExtraCredits’ video on the difference between “difficult” and “challenging”… Particularly his example of the square room with the treasure at the far end. This one definitely fell into the “dump a bunch of shotgunners and grenadiers into the room.”After an hour or so, I joked that I would rather leave and play something easier… like Dark Souls. 😛 After the second hour, I was no longer joking. If that’s the future of the game, I’m out.
I thought I’d fire up the Division again if the new Incursion breathed some life into the otherwise content-free zone that is the endgame, but it sounds like a glorified horde mode that doesn’t yield gear quite as good as simply spending a tonne of time in the PVP zone. So… yeah.
I guess I’ll wait for what my season pass gets me. New story content at some point? Yes? Please?
Still don’t regret the game. I’ll get the sequel if there is one. 1-30 was pretty damn fun.
Oh yea, I don’t regret getting the game… but the endgame has so much wrong with it. Hell, the “supply drops” that spawn in the DZ drop purples. “People will be fighting over these” my arse. People are fighting over landing a shot on the boss, then going rogue over anyone who picks the yellows off his corpse. Which, by the way, are only slightly more relevant because they dismantle yto basic yellow parts. The actual items he drops are useless now they’ve shifted the goalposts.
That’s exactly what I predicted The Division’s end game would turn out to be.
More big boxes with crates and platforms and an endless stream of overpowered enemies.
If only, if only, the shooting was better.
Alright. I need a game to get lost in. I’m not a fan of the souls. Any ideas?
Bloodborne? 😉
nice try
Stardew Valley. Prepare to lose all of your time.
Ohwait. Didn’t you already do that?
Yup But I want something immersive
Endless Legend =O
Factorio! Now you can lose some time to that one, alright. It’s got a demo – give that a whirl.
I second @cookingmama
Have you played Witcher 3? it’s quite good.
What specifically are you looking for?
Something story based. Preferably actiony. I like things that are more scifi. But not MMO Style.
The witcher I have tried playing but didnt like.
D:
D:
Normally I would edit out and replaced with (Doublepost), but this is worth two upset/horrified faces.
Sounds like what you want is Cyberpunk 2077.
So do the rest of us though. I predict it’ll be released some time around 2032.
Also something that is a timesink would be nice
Have you heard of Master of Orion? 😀
But seriously, Fallout 4 is meant to be good. What didn’t you like about the Witcher? I’m playing it through now and think it’s great. Have you played Shadow of Mordor? Similar style to W3, but I think SOM is less grind-y and more straightforward action, and the whole storyline and nemesis system is freaking awesome.
Borderlands 2 is also pretty great, it’s a bit MMO-y but still good fun.
Alternatively, just play all the Half Life games from HL1 -> HL2E2. Still the best FPS games of all time.
I just couldnt get into it. I havent played either of the older games, but the premise doesnt really do anything for me. But I am looking forward to their next game :
Ooh, since someone mentioned Borderlands… Tales from the Borderlands.
Also, Wolf Among Us.
Just out of curiosity, do you work for Telltale? :p
My affiliation with Telltale is on a need-to-know basis. And the only people who need to know are me, Telltale, and my accountant. 😉
I’m gonna go way down the rabbit hole here. Are you a fan of Firefly? If so, if FF was a game, it looks like it would be this:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/290300/
This is the next game on my purchase list. It looks awesome. Kind of like an updated version of Freelancer (which you should also play).
Err… Deus Ex: Human Revolution was also great, and will get you psyched up for the next one coming out soonish. Wolfenstein: The New Order is also a great shooter, fantastic story, but not that much of a time sink.
That does look interesting
Have you played the new X-com games? I haven’t played the sequel yet, but Enemy Unknown / Enemy Within are freaking excellent. Not so heavy on the story, but you can sink as much time into them as you want (if you install the Long War mod, apparently you are looking at an average of 150 hours per play through).
Transistor is also a fantastic sci-fi game. It’s an interesting premise, the story is pretty good, and it has arguably the best soundtrack of any game I’ve ever played (it is actually the only gaming soundtrack I’ve listened to regularly outside of playing the game).
Also, what about Mass Effect? I haven’t played any of them yet (saving the series for a rainy day/week), but apparently they’re pretty good?
Time sink…hmmm…I know!
Neko Atsume!
OK. I just start Just Cause 3. It’s mindless explosions. It’s shooting. It’s wingsuit flying! It’s mindless explosions. It’s tethering two fuel tanks together and smashing them into each other, to create mindless explosions.
And it’s pretty. And HUGE.
And did I mention explosions? Must have forgotten those. BOOM!
Hyrule Warriors?
Failing that, if you have a wheel, give either Euro Truck Simulator 2 or American Truck Simulator a go.
Elite: Dangerous? Immersive Sci Fi.
No story though.
There’s a story!!! It’s not even as well hidden as Destiny’s, it’s actually IN THE GAME.
However, whether or not you choose to care about the story or the factions is up to you.
Slow build up to ALIENS is coming…. 😀
Master, Broker, Pioneer, Helpless, Midshipman, Squire, about 35 million in the bank and a tradaconda at the mo.
What platform?
And before I bother suggesting Trails in the Sky / Cold Steel, how do you feel about JRPGs?
I’m not a big fan of RPG’s but sometimes I’ll be ok with them
Resident Evil 2
So I came across 40K Eisenhorn: Xenos yesterday, which is the video game of the book. My immediate reaction was that GW are really scraping the bottom of the barrel now but I kinda dig the idea of an action-adventure 40K game. I haven’t read any of the Eisenhorn series but I’ve heard they are some of the best 40K novels so I’m keen on experiencing the story.
From what I saw from TB giving it a bash, the combat animations are really janky but the story is good mainly due to taking directly from the book. Voice acting on the main character is apparently really solid but everyone else is not great in comparison.
Have you given Battlefleet Gothic a look btw? I got smashed by an Ork fleet lootin’ the ships I was trying to escort a few nights ago. Still loved it 😛
I gave it a try a while back but I’m mostly waiting for it to properly launch. Also I seriously need to upgrade my PC so that I can enjoy all the beautiful ships.
DS3 progress: got it Tuesday night, took about 20 attempts to clear the tutorial boss, finished for the night at the second wall bonfire after about 2 hours of play.
Wednesday night, Pip fires up her own character. Breezes past the tutorial boss. Blitzes past my point of progress after about 30 min.
I’m not the true Souls player in our household.
Go back to power cycling your DS? =P
It makes me very sad that I can’t place my white soapstone marker down before the first boss, where it’s most likely most-needed. 🙁
I mean, any boss AFTER that you can just grind up souls and boost your stats to force-fuck your way through. But that boss… you don’t get level-ups prior to that boss. You gotta go in with your starting stats and win with your starting stats. Harsh.
Lots of people seem to have had trouble with that guy.
Yeah, I nearly died, and I went EZ-mode with the knight. I wasn’t looking forward to repeatedly running through, banking up souls for bigger and bigger risks. :/
I’ll admit I was a cheesy bastard-
got him to the transformation, whacked him while he was morphing, then dodged and fireballed.I pretty much just hung back and took tiny little swings every time he looked like he was over-extended. Wasn’t always right about that.
I swear, though… there are a lot of bosses whose attack patterns are nowhere near as obviously-broadcasted – to my eye – as in previous games, and who change up more than I’ve been expecting. NG+ is going to kick my ass, because I’ve just been downing these sods without actually learning what makes them tick. (Except for the crystal mage guy, he was ezy.) I have no idea how I survived the tree.
Still can’t beat snake-headed zombie/hollow transforming guy up on the high wall, super early. I always shoot him with arrows because otherwise he whups my ass. I am soulsing wrong.
I get up in his grille and kill him dead quick before he gets too big.
Oppa Bloodborne Style
But… but… the tree was the most traditional boss-fight I’ve seen in a souls game yet.
The only thing missing was the glowing effect to say “hit me here” 😛 I was a bit worried as I found him with only three estus left… but still had two left by the end.As for the snake thing on the wall… I get close and kill him before he transforms, or … prepare for a long fight or short sprint. Those things are annoying, not really worth fighting if you can run past them.
That tree fucked me up good and proper. Would have had it on my second attempt but it didn’t register a hit on a thingy (so I gave up trying to hit it there), and I didn’t realise you could damage it through the hand.
Had good fun doing it in co-op a bunch of times though. Really different fight when there’s two people sprinting around smashing it.
There’s a lot more speed and precision to those attacks than I expected. So many no-go zones for my loincloth clad hobo with a completely useless plank shield.
Yea, some of the starts are rather rough. Depending on your playstyle, history with the series, and starting choice, it can be anything from easy victory to an hour or more of frustration. Couldn’t imagine fighting him with just a dagger or a sub-100 shield without spells or pyromancy…
Me picking Deprived probably didn’t help :p
Ended up cheesing an AI exploit by just maintaining a distance to bait jump attacks, triple hitting as they landed, then transformation time is enough time to just keep swinging to finish.Oh, fyi DS3 peeps: the Pontiff’s Left Eye ring does not seem to work so don’t get it.
Yeah i got that because i thought it would give me bloodborne style health rallying
From what I can tell (reading the wiki), it restores a small amount of health after 6 hits in a relatively short amount of time.
Given I kill most “normal” enemies in one or two attacks, I do not see much point to it.
Unless you are using a dagger you would run out of stamina first too.
Yeah, if you hit multiple enemies at once the counter stacks up, but… yeah. Only really useful on a few builds, I guess.
Minor DS stuff.
Yay! Found my greatsword! \o/ It’s too heavy for me to use! /o\ *dons light armour* Now to get used to slow attacks again…Which one? Considered switching to a great but I like my speed.Nice how some of them have dex scaling.
The Greatsword. 😛 Terribly confusing how the only weapon just called “greatsword” is classified as an ultra-greatsword, but that’s the one. Was swapping between that and my fire longsword last night when I needed some speed, like against the Watchers, but this thing (unupgraded other than infused with a fire gem cos it has terrible D/D/-/- scaling) took out the crystal lizard behind Farron’s Keep without much difficulty. The dex requirements on a lot of weapons seem pretty reachable… Considering investing into something a little different from my usual, considering my DS2 weapon path was extremely boring – Longsword > Fire Longsword > Greatsword > Magic Greatsword. Maybe a scythe, or the curved greatsword, or a hammer. Hmm… not sure yet.Due to the new weapon ability system feels like the choice is a lot more complex than just weapon type, should be a rather diverse pool this time around, actually encourages us to try out these special moves and weigh if their worth keeping over something with rawer stats.
I love that the Greatsword’s weapon art is just a stomp. 😀 Plus, comboing with the heavy attack after the stomp seems to be an upward slash… need to try it in practice, to see what it actually does to enemies – reminds me of the charged upward slash of the Black Knights from DS1 that would send you flying…
I had a play with the black knight Greatsword last night and it seems to have a slightly different moveset to other ones. Mixes in upward slashes to the regular moves and is different again if you two hand it.
Currently the weapon I’m using =) even wasted a ton of twinkling titanite on it, has some issues however, pain in the ass to connect it with a crystal lizard, sometimes even have to switch to a mace to get the job done, its parameters suck but than again I think most weapons without A/S have sucky parameters.
I just walked into a door. It hurt.
I feel like I should have stayed in bed…
Ugh…
My entire week.
Kind of all over the place, really, but trying to stay cool/distracted.
Never let ’em see you sweat.
Dark Souls Day Three
Spoilers – 5 or more bosses & Tower Key Spoilers
I headed to the Cathedral of the Deep first, woah boy it was a lot larger than I expected, about half way through clearing it I decided to buy the tower key, best decision ever so much good loot 😛 estus shard, estus ring, souls ring, a bird who will trade my crap for good stuff 😛 just awesome.Pushed through all the crap of the cathedral, eventually had to fight the Deacons, extremely easy for me just cleaved them over and over, searched around for some secrets than eventually moved onto Farron Keep, the swamp was actually a relief in terms of opposition, grabbed Havel’s Ring and circumnavigated everywhere, only found out in the end you had to extinguish them flames so that’s where I left things with the door unopened and called it a night.
I also used the sewer key finally to save the miracles priest and I suppose with that this will be the last update until monday morning.. no point posting here if no ones around to listen to my crap 😛
Still a step ahead of me.Don’t have much progress to show, despite the time spent. Beat Astral Sage, cleared most of the cathedral, cleared Farrons Keep Inc stray demon and farmed that black knight till he gave me his shield.
Theirs a Black Knight in Farron Keep? or is he past the door?
No no, the one in the crucifix marsh. He respawns.
Firstest of First World Problems: Too Many Games. I currently have a huge pile of recent stuff that I haven’t got to yet:
– Still haven’t finished Cold Steel
– Barely scratched Senran Kagura
– Haven’t even played DoAX3
– Nights of Azure is sitting untouched
– I’ve had Fire Emblem Fates since Feb and haven’t felt like opening the box
– Dark Souls 3 is installed on my PC
– Destroyer Trillion arrived last week
– Quantum Break released this week
– My Bravely Second arrives tomorrow
– Stranger of Sword City next week I think
– I’ve still got Xenoblade X and Project Zero 5 sitting waiting for me to touch my Wii U
– There’s an event in Kantai Collection starting May 2nd and I need to prepare for it
Basically getting overwhelmed by choice and end up not playing any and just sitting infront of the TV. 🙁
@redartifice and I think @jocon as well – a little low level hype for stellaris (love that last frame in the vid with all the factions spread out over the galaxy).

Friday!!! Rebels!!! Hurricanes!!! RUGBY!!!!!!
So excitement. So so excitement.
Welp, there but for the grace of an SSD goes my laptop. Given me so much grief over the past 18 months, just considering a new one, something reputable this time. Surface Pro 4 or Thinkpad X1… Something without a dedicated graphics card, I think, and just an SSD now that they’re reliable, so I can not worry too much about it getting knocked about a bit in my bag.
I feel like I need another 8 hours of sleep already… 🙁
Nup. Not a page get for that, sorry.
Last song played game
Jump (or be jumped on) by Horrorwood Mannequins
How is everyone doing today, and what was YOUR last song played?
Day is going great!
Took the day off for the missus’ birthday, and spoiling her rotten!
Last song played: Mary Ann’s Place by Volbeat.
I’m at work, you lucky duck, hope she had a great birthday and go you for spoiling her 🙂
Day has been alright, managed to find what I wanted in the way of a shirt for work tonight \o/
Last played song would be, Zwitter – Rammstein
So sleepy.
Just had a crack at Resan by Forndom. Norse-inspired folk music, like something you might hear on The Banner Saga or Vikings.

All of Born in the Echoes by Chemical Brothers. First CD I’ve bought in ages.
Page 5 on a Friday?! When did TAY get so busy dammit?!
When @dc, @freezespreston & @liondrive left us 😛
Make them come back man
!!
I’d say i’ll threaten them when I see them next, but it’s been like more than a year since I saw DC & like months since I saw Freeze, i’m a terrible friend 😀
I’ve missed two meats since Nobrocket meat. Feels isolated.
Meanwhile I’ve been to two! One might begin to think you’re avoiding me!! 😉
Hello.
I pictured this in my head..
You’ll regret that comment, stud 😉
Let’s not forget @strange @evilmonkey !
And @haggis
Remember when TAY used to get to 30 pages? Back when the site actually worked on mobile phones? 🙁
It works kind of okay on my phone, but hangs up my computer with script errors constantly :*(
Ugh. Why I agreed to open in BWS this morning & do nighfill in the Woolies tonight is beyond me. Up at 6am & won’t be asleep until at least 1am. Then i’m back in BWS tomorrow morning dang it. The things I do for money.
Happily got a beta invite to Overwatch but stuck catching crooks today.
Damn work.
Supanova insurance question.
I am finalising my stand at Supanova, but have to have ‘insurance’, and the organisers have not been helpful with advice.
If anyone that has exhibited at Supanova could let me know how to get insurance for a reasonable cost, I’d be your buddy forevers.
Okay. Saw the force awskens on dvd a second time. Finn isnt a stormtrooper turned traitor. While kylo ren was butchering folks a good part (Ben Solo) of him jumped ship into a vulnerable stormtrooper. It went back into kylo ren after their lightsaber duel. Finn isnt the only one. The stormtrooper who calls Finn a traitor the way kylo ren calls Finn a traitor also has a piece. So Kylo Ren was fragmenting and exerting an influence on the personalities of stormtroopers all around him…
It means when Finn recovers…he will probably want to kill Leia.
Just discovered my new PC will turn on from pressing any key on the keyboard after it’s been shut down. Weird.
Mine does that… sometimes.
I can find no rhyme or reason behind when it works though. I assume it’s Windows 10 related, but I really have no idea.
My hp laptop was glitchy..then it deleated some stuff i put on it and …works okay now.
Ghosts.
That’s sometimes a BIOS option. Check the boot menu…
A friend mentioned that, and I checked the bios settings and it’s disabled.
Also I turned off in Safe Mode (good god it is convoluted as fuck trying to reset into Safe Mode :/) and it didn’t do it then, nor did it do it after turning it back on at the power point this morning after someone had turned it off.
You’re one of them movie hackers aren’t you Gooky?!
I have never hacked a movie in my life.
You know what I meant 😛
*sigh*
Why does one person I work with have to try & create drama & what seems to be run his mouth to staff members of the Woolies we’re attached to about his coworkers in the liquor store. It’s bad enough he had the area manager take hours off me resulting in my hours being cut by almost half, but now it seems he’s gloating to his only friend in the supermarket that things are gonna change & it’ll be in his favour. Which is something I find so hard to believe, with the amount of customer complaints & how messy he leaves the store of a night.
But saying that i’ve been doing a bit more nightfill of late & well it upsets him greatly to the point he gives me death stares when he sees me. Like come on grow up dude, we’re all here to do a job & earn money to live on.
